00:00A man who was at the breakfast. Yes, he was. He is Andrew Siciliano. He's on the Make It Right
00:05Call Kyle Wright Hotline.
00:06Hi, Andrew. How are you?
00:08Good morning, guys. Let's just paint the picture and clarify a little bit.
00:11It's a breakfast in that there is a buffet outside for the media, but it's not as if everyone's like
00:18sitting at a table, like chowing down on hotel eggs, you know, while we lob questions at the coaches.
00:26But yes, it is a breakfast.
00:27Bro, it's a $900 a night place if you buy it the right way. You're not buying, you know, tickets
00:35off the street to sleep there. They better have real eggs, right?
00:37Yeah, I mean, whatever. It was a lovely spread. How are you guys?
00:42How are you?
00:43We are well.
00:43All right, because I know our time is limited, my friend. I want to make sure we get the most
00:47out of it.
00:48Sure, sure, sure.
00:49Why are you smarter? Because we're still going to call it the Todd Munkin Breakfast. Why are you smarter for
00:54being at the Todd Munkin Breakfast?
00:56I mean, certainly my my level of intelligence has not has not increased since we've known since we've all known
01:03each other collectively or I'll say the headline here is I think it's a lot of the same in that
01:09the door is open to a quarterback competition.
01:11And may the best man win. It is legitimately a quarterback competition.
01:15The one that's the quotes or the context that's going to get the most headlines, I think, is just how
01:21he's going to divide the reps.
01:22And that was obviously a major talking point last year, not only in the preseason and training camp, but throughout
01:28the season as to who didn't didn't get reps during the during the summer.
01:32He said the reps cannot be divided evenly like this idea that you could have.
01:37He said he had a four to five quarterback, quote unquote, competition or quarterback room at Georgia at one point.
01:42And that was not ideal. His words, not mine.
01:45So you can't do that. You can't get three, four quarterbacks out there and make it a fair fight where
01:51everyone has the exact same number of reps.
01:54So he said there is competition. There are ways to compete other than on the field, whether that's in the
02:01classroom, grasp of the offense.
02:02This is me filling in those blanks, not him, but that it can't be an even rep distribution.
02:09Someone's going to have the leg up one way or the other, and that person is going to get the
02:13most reps and we'll see how it goes.
02:14But he would like to have a starter sooner rather than later, it seems.
02:19And he said that he is going to play some starters in the preseason, but but to be determined.
02:25Would you think he'd like to have a starting quarterback before training camp even opens?
02:30I mean, he was kind of asked that. I don't know that he didn't say yes.
02:36You can't just you could potentially, I guess, name a starter off of minicamp.
02:43Right. Or the mandatory mandatory minicamp is always early June and have a starter heading into training camp.
02:50I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case.
02:53But to suggest that if he were to do that, that someone can't overtake the starter come training camp or
03:01come to preseason isn't right.
03:04Of course. So that someone, you know, I'm saying.
03:07Yeah, absolutely.
03:10What was your thoughts on yesterday, Jimmy Haslam talking about kind of his change in attitude on Deshaun Watson?
03:19You know, he he he said that, you know, maybe could have phrased it better last year.
03:24But I think that the message has been the same from whether it's Jimmy Haslam or Andrew Barry or Todd
03:31Monka.
03:31They've been lockstep in this and that it's Sean Watson's on the roster.
03:34I mean, like he's here, but it's it's a fresh start.
03:37It's a new coach. You wipe the slate clean.
03:41And Monka made the point, I think, of the combine and he made it again here.
03:44Like, I can't come in as that coach and say, all right, that guy's here on the roster, but you're
03:48not going to get a fair chance to compete.
03:49Like, may the best man win. If it happens, it happens.
03:52He said, I've seen him play good football.
03:54Not recently, necessarily, but I've seen him play good football.
03:56You know, I'm excited to see if we can still get that out of him.
03:59He was asked, you know, how much tape of Deshaun have you watched?
04:02And he said, really, not a lot.
04:04Like, why?
04:04Well, like, I know who he is.
04:06I've seen him play.
04:08Obviously, he made the point, which I find interesting.
04:10He goes, for example, so like watch him early in 2024.
04:14Well, you know, new offensive coordinator.
04:16What are they asking him to do?
04:17Is everyone on the same page?
04:18And like, is that offense truly installed the way, you know, to prompt him?
04:22Like, that's not a fun tape to watch.
04:24Right.
04:25He goes, but like we saw him in 2023 in week 10, obviously, in Baltimore when he had that perfect
04:29second half.
04:30That was a good tape to watch.
04:31Conversely, week one of 24, right, the Cowboys game, the opener, the Tom Brady game at 4 o'clock Eastern
04:38time.
04:39The Ravens played the Cowboys the next week.
04:41And he goes, I had to watch that tape.
04:43That was a bad tape.
04:44Right.
04:44That was an ugly tape.
04:45Right.
04:46Like, that's not the tape to go off of.
04:48He's going to get a fresh start.
04:50Is it a big deal that, according to Todd, he sees Shadour in the facility and really hasn't seen Dylan
04:56Gabriel?
04:57You know, that's interesting.
04:59Peter Schrager, a friend of the program, asked that question.
05:04If you follow Dylan on IG, he's been posting a lot from back home in Hawaii, which is, hey, it's
05:10the offseason.
05:11It is absolutely the offseason.
05:13He has every right to be where he wants to be and spend time with his family.
05:17I have no doubt he is working out, but, yes, Shadour has been in the building, and there's limited contact.
05:22Like, these coaches, and I had this conversation with multiple head coaches last night or these last couple of days.
05:28Like, yeah, their players are in the building, but you're not really allowed to talk football.
05:33Like, Todd Munkin can't sit down with Shadour and go through the playbook right now.
05:37That is not allowed through NFL rules.
05:40So the guys are there.
05:41They're working out, and you have to have these surface-level conversations here about life
05:46and what we're looking forward to and things like that.
05:48But Shadour has been in the building.
05:49Yeah.
05:50Yeah.
05:52I mean, we're going to sit here.
05:54Are we debating reps again, do you think?
05:56Or do you?
05:56Oh, we're going to.
05:57Oh, we're absolutely going to.
05:59A hundred percent.
06:01One thousand percent.
06:03But, guys, I just want you to understand, you guys do know this,
06:08and I want every Browns fan to know this as well,
06:11that whether it's at the college level or the NFL level,
06:14whatever team or whatever town, whatever market,
06:17when there is a legitimate competition, and this looks like it will be,
06:22there is always an argument and a debate as to the number of reps each quarterback gets.
06:29Very rarely is it quarterback one against quarterback two,
06:32and let's do it cleanly and everyone gets the same number of reps.
06:36There is always someone that's going to be pulling in front and leading the race,
06:39and the argument should be made that that guy should get more reps this day
06:43or in the next game.
06:45Munkin said it could and will fluctuate daily.
06:49Like, you got a bad day the next guy.
06:51The next day, the other guy may get more reps because you had a bad day.
06:54It's a competition.
06:56Yeah, that's a competition right there.
06:57It's a competition.
06:58You're not handed a job, and then therefore we're, look,
07:02counting every single rep and determining that, oh, guys,
07:06he went 9 of 11 yesterday.
07:08Why is it he getting more reps tomorrow?
07:10Were seven of those nine behind the line of scrimmage,
07:13and were they working on quick game and the short stuff and the screen game on Tuesday,
07:18and therefore you're going to read on Twitter that one guy went 9 of 11,
07:21and you're going to get angry that he's not starting
07:23or that he's not getting enough reps the next day?
07:25It's a fluid situation, as all these things will be.
07:29But, yeah, it's going to be one of the two in all likelihood.
07:31I'd be surprised if it's Dylan Gabriel.
07:34But he's going to get a shot as well, certainly.
07:39And A.B. said that if they add another quarterback,
07:42it would likely be a young quarterback.
07:44I was just going to go there with you.
07:46Yeah.
07:47What changed from external veteran options?
07:50Well, I think most of those options are spoken for right now.
07:55I mean, who are the options?
07:57There's Kirk Cousins.
07:59There's Kirk Cousins.
08:01Jimmy G.
08:02Both Matt LaFleur and Sean McVay said yesterday
08:05that they would be interested in Kirk Cousins.
08:08I could tell you with firsthand knowledge,
08:10Kirk Cousins still wants to play and still wants to start.
08:15And many people say, well, go to Vegas.
08:16Well, they're going to draft Mendoza at number one.
08:19And even if they were to tell Kirk, hey, dude,
08:23we're not starting Mendoza until, like, November.
08:25It's your job for the first two months.
08:27Go for it.
08:28Play well.
08:29Maybe we'll trade you if, like, you light it up.
08:32Right?
08:32But you're going to start.
08:33Kirk's been down that road before.
08:35In Atlanta.
08:36He felt he was misled.
08:37He's not going to do that again.
08:39Now, if you were to sign with the Rams
08:42or if you were to sign with the Packers,
08:43he would undoubtedly be the backup.
08:45But he would be a backup with coaches that he has known
08:49and worked with and respected and has a relationship.
08:52So, it's not going to be Cousins with the Browns, obviously.
08:54Who are the other options?
08:56That's a good point at this point.
08:58There are no other veteran options right now
09:00that I think are a viable fit to add to this quarterback room.
09:04So, you draft somebody.
09:06I don't.
09:07Go ahead.
09:07Or you trade for somebody.
09:08No, I want to let you go because we know you have other work to do.
09:11No, no.
09:11We're good.
09:11We're still good.
09:12I got eyes on where I got to be.
09:14We're still good.
09:14Okay, if you need to leave, just let me know.
09:16Just hang up.
09:17Yeah, you can just hang up.
09:18See you later, guys.
09:20Miles Garrett, I just want to ask.
09:21Did we clear the air on that yesterday to say,
09:23hey, here we go.
09:24He is going to be a Brown,
09:26and we have no intentions of trading him.
09:28So, Munkin said just now that they have texted,
09:31so that's positive.
09:32Right?
09:33Conversations certainly between those two via the texting machine.
09:38As much as I think we all agree that AB kind of left the door open on Sunday,
09:43just a little bit.
09:44Yeah.
09:45Yeah.
09:45The door is ajar, as Eddie Murphy once said way back in the day,
09:48or the car said to Eddie Murphy way back in the day.
09:51That's a deep cut.
09:52But I got the impression yesterday that I thought Jimmy Haslam was a little
09:58more emphatic, a little, I mean, what is there a quote in no possible scenario
10:05on God's green earth are we trading him?
10:07No.
10:08I felt like we did get that last year, but I think Jimmy Haslam was firmer than AB.
10:17And look, AB, you have to thread that needle very carefully, right?
10:21Very, very, very carefully.
10:22The question to AB when he said what he said about Miles Garrett on Sunday,
10:27the question was, can you unequivocally say you won't trade him?
10:32That was the question.
10:33So you guys need to contact her.
10:35That's the setup.
10:37And at that moment, will you, would you, if you were in his shoes,
10:41say unequivocally, we will not trade him?
10:44Those words will come back to bite you.
10:47Possibly.
10:47Someone may call you up and say, we'll give you three ones, three twos,
10:52three threes, three fours.
10:53No one's going to do that.
10:54But like you could get a godfather offer.
10:56So the way he was asked on Sunday, I think he had to say what he said,
11:02the way he said it.
11:03Good stuff.
11:04Good stuff.
11:05If the best player on the Browns board at six is a defensive player
11:10and there's no opportunity to trade down,
11:14would you be okay with him taking a defensive player,
11:16even with the needs on the line and at wide receiver?
11:19No, I mean, if Caleb Downs is, if the safety is the safest pick, sure.
11:24I don't know that it's leaning in that direction.
11:27I still would lean offense and I still think it likely goes in that direction.
11:34But the biggest question here is what happens in front of the Browns.
11:38This isn't like you're picking two and you know Cam Ward's going one, right?
11:42This is you're picking six and there are multiple variables.
11:47So Mendoza goes one, but there you do have a new coach, okay?
11:52Tennessee, no, who's sitting at two?
11:55The Jets are at two.
11:56You obviously have a coach who's battling for his job.
12:00At three, you have a new head coach and a GM who's battling for his job.
12:05At four, you have a new head coach.
12:07At five, you have a new head coach and a GM battling for his job.
12:13So it's pure conjecture now.
12:15In a draft in which there are only so many blue chip, blue chip, blue chip players, for my money,
12:25the most important thing here, if I were a Browns fan, which we all are, I would love to see
12:32Jeremiah Love fall to six.
12:36Not that the Browns take him at six.
12:38I don't want them to take him at six.
12:39Somebody's coming up for him.
12:40I would love to fall to six because he is the one player for my money in this draft that
12:46truly has the value and the wow factor that someone would trade up to get him.
12:51Now, how far back are you comfortable going?
12:53Like, people say, well, the Cowboys want him to go back to 12.
12:57I wouldn't go back to 12.
12:58That's just me.
12:59I don't want to go back that far.
13:00But Washington's right behind you.
13:02Can you make Washington believe that New Orleans or Kansas City, even though they both went and spent money on
13:07a free agent running back a couple of weeks ago, wouldn't still be interested?
13:11You know?
13:12I'm sorry, New Orleans or Kansas City.
13:14Like, could you get someone to want to come up?
13:19That's the game.
13:19And if you do do those deals, how far could you trade back?
13:24Like, a trade from six to 12 is probably worth a third round pick if you look at the chart.
13:32Thereabouts.
13:32Maybe it's a three and something more.
13:35Like, maybe a three and a five, a three and a six, a three and a conditional something.
13:40Like, I don't want to go back that far, but I'd love a three.
13:43You know, how much can you get from a team between seven and ten if they really want to trade
13:48up?
13:48Like, would you, if it's love, whomever your best offensive lineman is on your board, and Carnell Tate at six,
13:56isn't that a great scenario?
13:58You move back a spot or two and still get one of those guys, knowing that the person, the team
14:03you trade to is going to come up and get the running back, and you'd still be okay with your
14:07guys on the board.
14:07I would love that to happen, but I don't, you know, we have a long way to go.
14:11Good point.
14:12Andrew, do you have any stuff coming out that we can look for?
14:16Hopefully get a one-on-one with Coach coming up shortly on the best podcast available on ClevelandBrowns.com and
14:22Browns YouTube and all your Browns favorite social media channels.
14:26I'm back with my Yahoo show inside coverage with Jory Epstein and Charles Robinson and Frank Schwab, and that is
14:32sort of true later in the week.
14:34Outstanding.
14:35Andrew, thank you.
14:35We do appreciate your time.
14:36We know you're busy, so we will talk to you soon.
14:38Thank you, sir.
14:39How about Daniel Schneeman, everybody?
14:41There you go.
14:42Big time, baby.
14:43There you go.
14:43Love it.
14:44All right.
14:45Talk to you later.
