00:00Let me get it off my chest.
00:02Could Parker Messick be the next great Guardian pitcher?
00:06Can I go around the room, please?
00:08Please, please, please, please.
00:11Yes, no.
00:11He went six innings strong out last night against the Dodgers.
00:14Everyone against the Dodgers should count for two.
00:17Because it's the Dodgers.
00:18And it's the early part of the season.
00:21I'd sign off on that.
00:22Let's go.
00:22It was warmer at Chavez Ravine.
00:25Which if anybody's been telling you, Owen, you know it's been me.
00:27When the weather gets warmer, the Guardians get better.
00:31Sorry.
00:33Sorry.
00:36I've heard that when the weather gets colder, the mics eat up.
00:41Does he have what it takes to be the next great Guardians pitcher?
00:44Around the room.
00:45Owen?
00:46Yeah, why not?
00:47I mean, they haven't had the next great in a while now.
00:51No, they haven't.
00:53Beaver was the last next great.
00:55It was supposed to be Tristan McKenzie and then that flamed out.
00:57And Tristan McKenzie.
00:59And Bybee's fine.
01:01Tristan McKenzie.
01:02You're right.
01:03Tristan McKenzie was the example.
01:05Where it's like, ooh, I went a little overboard there.
01:09Because you get used to the Guardians having a top-end, number-one starter
01:14who's a Cy Young caliber pitcher.
01:17And so when Tristan McKenzie came in, I just assumed, a lot of us just assumed that he was
01:24going to be the next top-end, starting-caliber, Cy Young type of pitcher.
01:29And he just wasn't.
01:31And no offense to, I'm not trying to, I hope he gets his career back on track, but obviously
01:35it's not really going to work out for, it didn't work out for us.
01:38So I think I was kind of expecting more from what I was getting, and it had to recalibrate me.
01:44It's almost like when, like we had Kalen DeBoer, right?
01:47You're taking over for Nick Saban.
01:48The only thing you can do is win another national championship.
01:51Other than that, you're going to be a disappointment.
01:53So when you're following a lineage of Kluber, of Bieber, of these great pitchers, like, yeah,
02:01if you don't achieve that, you're going to be ripped for it.
02:05And so now I think that it's recalibrated us a little bit.
02:07And you're right, Tanner Bybee's nice.
02:09You want more out of Tanner Bybee, but man, you see this mess again, you're like, good
02:12God, this kid, there's something there.
02:14But six innings strong last night.
02:16Tonight's a big one.
02:16They got Otani tonight, and we'll get back to the Guardians coming up here in about last
02:20night at 745.
02:212-1-6-4-7-4-00-92.
02:23So they're all getting in.
02:24I know I wanted to get to McShay's comments coming up here.
02:28I still want to.
02:30Watson ain't going anywhere except maybe for the starting job, okay?
02:33I just want to know, real quick right now, for the people just tuning in,
02:38who's your start of week one right now?
02:40Probably Shador.
02:41They didn't bring anybody else in.
02:43Okay.
02:45Mine is Shador.
02:46Yours is?
02:47Has to be Shador.
02:49Okay.
02:49I'm just making sure.
02:51Because if you start Shador and it doesn't go well, it's like, hey, I gave him a whole
02:54offseason.
02:55I gave him a chance.
02:56It didn't go our way.
02:58We're going to have to move on to the veteran here.
03:00We're going to have to move on to Deshaun Watson.
03:02I don't want to throw him back into the quote-unquote fire again, okay?
03:06I don't know.
03:08Guys, if I'm going to guess that either one of these guys is a quarterback for the Cleveland
03:11Browns in 2027, I mean, I'll put it at 20% right now.
03:14But I still want to go in with the best foot forward for the future.
03:19But again, Todd Munkin, if you're making the decision, you're doing it the right way.
03:22If you let the head coach make the decision as a starter, I can't fault you for trying to
03:27do it the right way.
03:28You did it the right way.
03:29You picked the head coach for a reason.
03:31He's supposed to pick who's starting for the football team.
03:33We all complain if anybody steps in there and makes decisions for head coaches.
03:37But the ones that wanted Kevin fired so bad, and that's an entire team thing.
03:42That's not a quarterback thing, and I'd given up on him too.
03:45But you had to know the risk going in.
03:48Because I am convinced that we're still Kevin.
03:50He's just going with the flow.
03:52They would pick Shador, and he would just start Shador.
03:54But it's Todd Munkin.
03:56He's older.
03:57First time he's got to be a head coach.
03:59The only chance he might get to be a head coach.
04:01He's going to do what he believes is best for that football team.
04:03Damn what Kenny and Anthony said.
04:04I think that's the only way that this could possibly, and I'm not saying would totally
04:09switch people's, change people's minds.
04:11But Munkin is more of, what have we said about him and his communication style?
04:15He is up front.
04:17He's kind of in your face.
04:18And unlike Kevin, and obviously we talked about his strengths and weaknesses so many
04:24times over the six years he was here, but if Kevin vouched for somebody, it didn't mean
04:29anything to me.
04:29Because he basically treated everybody on the roster the exact same way that he would talk
04:34about these guys.
04:35Everything was in the dark.
04:36Yeah.
04:37I think Todd Munkin, if he tried to sell you on Deshaun Watson, it might have a little
04:42more legs to it than the previous coach.
04:46I think he would actually come out and use descriptors and explain why Deshaun Watson
04:52is the guy they'd be going with.
04:54When Kevin would just be like, well, he's a guy who's battled out there and managed that
05:01situation and he would say a bunch of nothing and it would not be inspiring to fan base at
05:06all.
05:06I think Kevin, if there's one of the major criticisms I had is that he didn't give
05:11enough of himself to his team.
05:12There was still always a wall up there because I don't think he wanted to get close to him
05:16just in case he had to cut him or anything like that.
05:18I think that's a Bill Walshism.
05:19I think that's the way Chuck Knoll was, but I'm talking about two dead guys.
05:22I'm not talking about what it is in the future right now.
05:25And you're seeing a lot of guys, the way they have success, they are not stoic.
05:28As much as I want to be critical of Kyle Shanahan and how he moves and talks like a serial
05:33killer amongst us.
05:34I mean, there are guys right now, they would go commit armed robbery right now for that man.
05:39They love him.
05:40They love him.
05:41So there is clearly a difference between how he talks to the media and how he talks to
05:44them.
05:44And I can be critical all I want.
05:46Obviously, he's been very successful.
05:47And if Todd Munkin is like that, then yeah, I think it's easy to go with the flow because
05:52he's going to be in tune with what the team wants and he's going to pick the best quarterback
05:55for it.
05:56Todd McShay from the ringer.
05:58He had his podcast last night and threw Brown's Twitter into a tizzy as he mentioned that
06:06Caden Proctor at number six and his co-host Steve Mention, not very happy about it.
06:11I think that he's more bottom half first round.
06:14You're even lower than him on him than I am.
06:17Talk people through what you see as our offensive line guru, what you see in Proctor's tape that
06:23when I say he could go six overall, you have like a visceral effect.
06:27I think that the tape's just not good enough.
06:31It goes even further.
06:32Steve Mensch will tell you why the tape's not good enough.
06:35I don't know if I want to go through all of the plays that I wrote down when I was
06:39watching
06:39his tape of how many times he gets beat to the inside.
06:42He's vulnerable as a pass blocker.
06:44And I know he started all these games in the SEC and he won all these awards and people
06:47think he's a super talented kid.
06:48And I get all that, but when I'm watching pass protection, I mean, that's really the crux
06:54of this for me.
06:54Now, I said, there's a lot of things I like again, audio courtesy of the McShay show from
06:58the ringer.
06:58And I like Caden Proctor and I might be willing to take a risk because I know there's risks
07:04for him at 24, but at number six, overall Todd McShay, he said he wouldn't be saying it
07:10if he wasn't hearing things.
07:12This is, we get 24 days left to the draft.
07:14Every minute we spend on the show is valuable right now.
07:17I'm not starting a show with Caden Proctor unless I'm getting information or information
07:23from somewhere that I like, there's something there.
07:26He thinks it's nuts at number six.
07:29Overall, you've had Monroe Freeling who has shot up the draft boards now kind of coming
07:33back to the fold a little bit.
07:35He's been at number six.
07:36Do you believe in any of that?
07:39What?
07:40That guys are going up and down the draft board or is that just media?
07:44Is that just media?
07:45Well, there's been guys who have definitely shot up the board during the offseason, but
07:48usually those are quarterbacks.
07:50You know, usually it's, it's, you want to bet big on those guys.
07:53If I'm here, my first reaction is if I got one draft guy who I really, really trust who
07:58we've had on the show saying he's hearing it could be Caden Proctor.
08:01And I got another draft guy who I really, really trust who's been on the show a bunch
08:05is going to be on at seven 20 saying he's hearing it could be Monroe Freeling.
08:08I start to think, man, I got two really big risk guys.
08:13So either a, they think the Browns are crazy and are just going to reach for somebody.
08:17And this is going to be a typical Browns disaster or B, and this is more hopeful that you're
08:21trading down and that you're trading down.
08:24I don't know.
08:25You got to have somebody else up there to mix with it.
08:27Cause I would try to put out there that maybe I like Jeremiah love.
08:30I get somebody to move up to get something for him instead of having to take one of those
08:35guys at number six who might not be ready to go day one.
08:38I mean, six overall.
08:39Yeah.
08:39I asked this question last week.
08:41You were out or two weeks ago.
08:42You were out.
08:43And I'm like, guys, if he's six overall, can he not start week one?
08:47No, no.
08:48He's got to start week one.
08:49Okay.
08:49I agree with you guys, but I have to ask the question.
08:52Cause if they take one of those guys, there's a very strong possibility.
08:54They're standing on the sidelines of the first offensive series.
08:57I almost wish we had another term for what this pick is because it's not the six overall
09:02pick in any other draft.
09:03This is a different draft.
09:05We've had every pundit come in and say the same thing.
09:08We can't take that guy.
09:09That's not a number six pick.
09:11And we do it at like seven positions.
09:13Even Cardinal Tate was a good enough prospect.
09:15I heard somebody say the other day, he'd be in the twenties in any other draft.
09:19That's how bad this draft is.
09:20Someone said, would you trust drafting T Higgins number six overall?
09:24Right.
09:24Well, and I think Browns fans would be happy.
09:26That's a really nasty comment.
09:27And when you think about it, cause he was top of round two, but I know good is good.
09:31He's a good player.
09:32So I almost wish we just called this like the, the 18th pick in the draft who the Browns
09:37taking at 18 instead of the six to trade down to the 18th pick in the draft.
09:42Cause it would make all much more power.
09:43But when, when that got brought up before the show, I think, uh, John came in here and
09:47it was like, Oh, the Browns just need to trade down.
09:49I'm like, join the club.
09:50I think every team is talking about trading down.
09:53So good luck.
09:55Like you're right.
09:55Try to stir up, uh, you know, there, there are, there, there is maybe one team that might
10:00want to come up and get the running back, but the Jeremiah love, but it's, it's hard.
10:05It's hard when every fan base is saying the same thing, trade down, trade down, trade down.
10:09And nobody is giving up precious capital in next year's first round.
10:15Nobody's doing that.
10:16I think Jim's might get fired over something like that.
10:19What, what Jacksonville did last year.
10:21Nobody's willing to do this year.
10:23Gosh, if we're stuck, if Spencer for knows there, I would go with Spencer for no.
10:28If, if my own no is there, I'd go with my own no.
10:30If it's, if it's Carnell Tate, that's there, if I'm just stuck and fine, maybe I'll go after
10:34a playmaker, but I'm trying, I cannot guys.
10:37I like Caleb Proctor.
10:38He's the size of a house.
10:40I can't sell him at six to you for crying out loud.
10:42Just like I can't sell Monroe Freeling to you at six.
10:45Do you think they will have to trade up if they don't go offensive line at six?
10:50Well, they have to trade up from 24 because you can't be sitting there left without, if
10:58there's a run on offensive lineman, like they are talking about, you can't be sitting there
11:03and be like, whoops, like that would be a calamity for the Browns.
11:08I would.
