00:00Can I break my own rule here just a second?
00:02Nick Baumgartner was with us 40 minutes ago.
00:05I asked him.
00:05I go, hey, maybe not in the first three rounds.
00:08You got picked 107 there on Saturday.
00:11Maybe a kicker on a quarterback.
00:12He mentioned a certain name.
00:14We've seen a lot with Drew Heller that we can't unsee,
00:18but we've also, as you just mentioned, he's 6'5", 240, huge arm,
00:22and he's very athletic, and he's pretty young.
00:24He's not that old.
00:25So, yeah, I think he could be a guy that goes higher than people realize.
00:28I don't think I'd take him because I think he was in a giant fishbowl
00:33at Penn State, and I think he'll be in a bigger fishbowl here in Cleveland
00:36because it's his hometown.
00:39I think he'll end up going night two because of the measurables,
00:42because of the arm.
00:43I think someone will really take him and go, guys, this quarterback crazy league,
00:46if we can fix this guy, we're going to have horse turd-sized diamonds
00:52on our hands here.
00:55For the quarterback position, I got to tell you,
00:58it's rubbing me the wrong way that Todd Munkin said that he hasn't seen
01:02Dylan Gabriel at all.
01:03That's an emotional, silly thing to say, but when you talk to Deshaun Watson,
01:07when you see Shador Sanders every day, and then you tell me you don't see
01:10Dylan Gabriel at all, you haven't talked to Dylan Gabriel at all,
01:13it just rubs you the wrong way, and I go, hey, you know what?
01:16Maybe a nice Cade Klubnick later on.
01:18You know what?
01:18Maybe a nice Luke Altmyer from Illinois.
01:21He looked good at the senior bowl.
01:23People really liked him.
01:24Maybe you bring him in on Saturday.
01:26I'm sorry, Coach.
01:27It's just kind of how I'm feeling off the top of my head.
01:30It's a nasty thing to say.
01:31It's a true thing to say, and maybe I break my own rule,
01:33because I didn't want any quarterbacks this coming draft.
01:36I was like, no, I'm done.
01:38We'll move on.
01:39And I don't know.
01:40That one statement, it just kind of – it's probably not true.
01:43You're probably not being a bad teammate, bad guy,
01:45but there's a perception there.
01:47I'm sorry.
01:47Well, in that position, that's the position where it matters, right?
01:50So there's other guys who haven't been in the building,
01:52but when you're a quarterback of any level of team,
01:54you are the face of that program, whether it's high school, college, or pro.
01:58And when you have – the perception is when he says that is not only is he
02:02not in the building, but unfortunately he's not working.
02:05And he might be working his you-know-what off, but that's the perception.
02:08And as all three of us have said, perception, unfortunately, is reality.
02:11So as a quarterback, you've got to make sure you do those things,
02:15not only for yourself, but just for your daily well-being.
02:19People want to know that all you care about – and it doesn't have to be the case.
02:23Maybe Shador is there 20 minutes.
02:25Maybe he's there for six hours.
02:26But the bottom line is he's there.
02:28If people see him there, now the perception is Shador is doing everything he can
02:33to be the best quarterback.
02:34And he might, but we really don't know that.
02:37And that's why you have to, as a quarterback,
02:40you've got to make sure the perception is what you want it to be.
02:42Or somebody else write your narrative.
02:43Let me break my rule for just a second.
02:46Drew Allard, to me, is a non-starter just because he's from here.
02:49I think that he needs to go to a place, one, that has a good foundation.
02:52So if he goes day two, I hope he goes to a stable franchise
02:56that has been in the playoffs for multiple years
02:58and already has a starting quarterback in front of him.
03:00Has a quarterback that they are comfortable with in front of him.
03:03The other part of it is that I don't think bringing him back to his hometown
03:09is really great considering how things went at Penn State.
03:15Obviously, I was defensive of him at Penn State.
03:18I wasn't a big fan of his play caller.
03:20I've been calling that since the guy was in Buffalo.
03:22But regardless, every now and then you get it right.
03:24I think that he just needs to settle and get to a place that is going to be helpful to
03:31him.
03:32It is also not fair of me when I hear Todd Monk and I'm going to ask Owen to play
03:37a clip
03:37that I didn't get him ready for because I was so damn focused on the mock draft.
03:41It doesn't help me when I hear Todd Monk and talk about these quarterbacks
03:46and the QBs that he's talked to and hasn't talked to, hasn't interacted with.
03:54So now I think about, you've got a guy who was without a team.
04:00You have a guy who's fired who picked him.
04:03Now it feels like he's further away.
04:05And it just leads me to think, you know, you go, gosh, you get to day three.
04:10Pick six, 24, 39, 70.
04:12I kind of want some impact there.
04:14Obviously, it's lessering on the impact there as you get from day one to day two.
04:18You get day three, 107 in round four.
04:21Then you've got two fifths, a sixth, and a seventh.
04:24Kind of makes me want to kick around a quarterback and see, all right, can we put it to it?
04:28Because when I hear this from Todd Monk and it doesn't give me much hope
04:31in one of the three guys that are in the room right now.
04:34What's been your first impressions of Shador
04:36and how do you evaluate him in the quarterback competition?
04:40Well, it's too early to really evaluate him other than it's been great
04:43that he's been in the building.
04:46It's refreshing to see a player that recognizes where he's at
04:50and where he wants to get to.
04:53And Gabriel hasn't been in the building?
04:55As far as I know, he has not.
04:57I have not seen building yet.
04:59Deshaun was in early when I got the job, so I got a chance to sit down with him.
05:05All right, what I'm saying isn't fair.
05:06I know it's not fair, but perception is going to be reality to a lot of people.
05:10You've got a coach that we – you know, there was a time when Hugh took Cody Kessler,
05:16I knew and said on the radio, he's covering for people.
05:19I don't think he wanted him.
05:20Kevin wanted Dylan Gabriel.
05:22Everything I know, Kevin wanted Dylan Gabriel.
05:24Kevin ain't here no more.
05:27And it just feels like Dylan Gabriel's been kind of maligned.
05:31And I'd like to go further, but I kind of want some reasons why Dylan Gabriel hasn't been there
05:35before I go shooting my mouth off.
05:37Has he reached out to Munkin?
05:39Has he talked to Munkin?
05:41He didn't say he was in the building, so I'm assuming that they haven't spoken.
05:44I mean, Deshaun and him have spoken.
05:47Obviously, he and Shidorah have spoken.
05:49And it just leads me to believe, like, hey, man, this is just a programmatic non-fit, okay?
05:55And we're probably going to go in a different direction here.
05:58And so, yeah, I've got to open up the Manila folder, and I've got to look at day three guys
06:01that I'd like to bring in.
06:03And, okay, let's see if we either got a camp arm here or we can put this guy on the
06:0653 man.
06:07That's kind of how I feel.
06:09It's not fair, but it's how I feel, Coach.
06:11Well, I think there's enough.
06:12For me, I'm not on board, and here's why.
06:14First of all, there's a lot of coach talk there, and I've done it before myself.
06:18When you say it's too early to evaluate.
06:20So when he says that, even though he's in the building, that's that good vibe.
06:24That's putting out the perception you want people to have.
06:27And when you're a quarterback, you're a head coach, or you're a coordinator,
06:31you either fall in line or somebody else writes your narrative.
06:33Whether the narrative is positive or negative, somebody else will write it.
06:36And unfortunately for Dylan, not being in the building, it's going to be a negative.
06:40Now, as compared to a couple things.
06:42First of all, I like Dylan Gabriel.
06:44I've gone on record saying I thought he was a good pick.
06:46However, I think he's a good pick in a system offense.
06:49This is no longer a system offense, so I think he could struggle in this offense.
06:53That being said, I think there's so many holes on this offense,
06:57and there's such depth at certain positions, tight end and receiver, two of them,
07:02that you don't waste a pick.
07:04For me, I would go out and get Nussma if he's there later.
07:07But for me, I'm taking another tight end.
07:09I'm taking another play.
07:10Zachariah Branch will be around day three.
07:13Skyler Bell out of UConn will be there on day three.
07:15There's guys who can touch the ball and make plays with it.
07:18There's, you know, Nick was talking about Oscar Delp, who I have in my top ten,
07:22high in my top ten, might not even be drafted.
07:24There's guys out there that you've got to go get offensively,
07:28maybe deal with your quarterback situation a little bit.
07:30But that's where the Browns have put themselves.
07:31They've got to go get playmakers regardless of position.
07:34Those two positions just happen to be deep this year, which is very helpful.
07:38So you wouldn't consider a quarterback at all?
07:41I would consider Nussmaier if he's around.
07:43Oh, I'm sorry.
07:44I'm sorry.
07:44That would be my own.
07:45But I don't think he's going to be there day three.
07:47So, no.
07:48Then I'm not bringing in.
07:49I'm bringing in an arm then.
07:50And I'm going to let, if I don't like Dylan Gabriel and I'm getting rid of Dylan Gabriel,
07:55which I don't think they should, but if they were to, I would understand.
07:58Then I'm letting those two fight it out and I'm bringing in a veteran arm
08:02and I'm bringing in a camp arm.
08:03And I'm letting those two really go at it.
08:06But, no, I'm not with the holes on this offense.
08:08And, you know, you can get great athletic tackles that will be starters in a year
08:14or starters in two years.
08:15That's what you're wanting.
08:16You're thinking traits on day three.
08:18There are traits with tackles.
08:20There are traits with tight ends.
08:21There are traits with receivers that really carry over on day three
08:25that you can get a lot of value with.
08:26So, if it's not Nussmaier, I'm out.
08:28I know that this comes off petty, but I just think I'm saying the quiet part out loud
08:31when he says what he says about Dylan Gabriel.
08:34Like, I'm trying to see through it.
08:35Like, I know Jonathan got really excited about the Shador stuff and what he said.
08:39I don't know if that's going to help him be the starting quarterback.
08:42But I don't think anybody's thinking of Dylan Gabriel being the starting quarterback, frankly.
08:46And it's like, well, if you weren't my pick and this isn't your offense
08:49and you're not really making any face time with me,
08:52what are we really trying to accomplish here?
08:54Now, I don't think they're just going to outright cut him.
08:56I think they'll try to get something for him going into 2027 in that draft
09:00where maybe they can get a sixth or a seventh-round pick for Dylan Gabriel.
09:03You might go to camp with four guys.
09:05I just don't know who's going to be getting the throws
09:08and who's going to be getting the reps.
09:09And obviously, that's a circular conversation that we can save for another day.
09:13It's not fair, but I think the vast majority of a lot of fans happen to think,
09:17well, Shador's there.
09:18You can like, not like Shador.
09:21Deshaun Watson has talked to him.
09:22You can like or not like Deshaun.
09:24And I know I'm right about that because a lot of people are wondering
09:26where the hell Deshaun has been until the latest workout video drops.
09:30So you know he's working out.
09:31You had heard he's working out.
09:32Now you've seen it.
09:33I don't know much about Dylan Gabriel.
09:35I don't know much about his offseason.
09:36And so it does come off, I think, to a lot of fans as if maybe you don't want
09:40to be here anymore.
09:41If you don't want to be here anymore, then maybe we'll just kick the tires
09:44on another guy there.
09:44But you're right.
09:45There's plenty.
09:46I think there's good offensive line depth here.
09:47I think there's other good offensive depth that you could find there
09:50that you could possibly use on day three, rounds four through seven,
09:55that can still help you out within this football team.
09:58Because I'm still looking for impact on days one and two.
10:01Obviously, I want a day one starter at six overall.
10:04I want a guy who can definitely, I'm thinking start at number 24 overall,
10:09even though if we're talking about offensive linemen,
10:11that might be a little bit of a mix there.
10:13I think I could go right back to the defense and get some help.
10:16You mentioned Grant Delpit and his future with the Cleveland Browns.
10:19Maybe on day two I can go right back to it.
10:22We'll see.
10:22Day three, maybe there isn't a pick to waste with some of the talent
10:25that's out there.
10:26But if I'm just picking up some vibes, and vibes are not always correct,
10:29if I'm picking those up, it's like, well, maybe I am back in the market
10:32for a young quarterback there who wants to help out to it.
