00:00So, Andrew Barry spoke, 6.43, we'll get to the elephant in the room.
00:04Andrew Barry spoke yesterday, it's a big deal.
00:08I'm probably going to say something that's going to be even more controversial than what I said on Friday.
00:12But here is Andrew Barry yesterday, where he wants to maybe attempt to nip it in the bud, he says,
00:18Miles Garrett, not just a brown this year, a career brown.
00:21So can you state unequivocally that you're not trading Miles Garrett?
00:25I'd say this, Mary Kay.
00:27Okay, Miles is a career brown.
00:30He is one of the faces of our organization.
00:32I think we've been very clear, both past and present, in terms of our feelings.
00:36So I understand all the questions.
00:39I'll be honest, I don't really want to waste a ton more breath on it.
00:44Okay.
00:45He understands the question.
00:47That sounded like a no for you?
00:49It's been an easy no.
00:50Say no at the beginning.
00:51Call him a career brown, what more do you want?
00:55He called him a career brown, what more do you want?
00:57I did not hear no in there.
00:59All right.
01:01So he spoke.
01:03I'm going to say, and this is what's probably going to get me beat up, because I think some people
01:07are going to assume I'm sticking my head in the sand.
01:10Can you just hear me out before you go attacking me here?
01:13Can I just hear me out?
01:14Why would I attack you?
01:15Because you're you.
01:17I think I think it's just time we move on now.
01:21I think we just we he's a Cleveland Brown.
01:23Excuse me.
01:24Not from him.
01:26I mean, from the conversation.
01:27He is a Cleveland Brown until he's no longer a Cleveland Brown.
01:31And the reason I say that is because I think it's going to drive fans nuts.
01:35Do we really need to go through three months of trade speculation here before?
01:39Well, wait a minute.
01:39It's it's it's almost April.
01:42Do we want to go through four months of trade speculation?
01:45I think it's I thought the trade speculation is going to kick back up after June.
01:50That's what I thought.
01:51The way people were talking.
01:52Guys, come on.
01:55It for him, if somebody were to call, you have to now I'm getting frustrated.
02:02You have to entertain the conversation.
02:04Everybody knows that it's his job to entertain the conversation.
02:08So if somebody were to call, yeah, you got to pick up the phone and have that conversation with somebody
02:14and see if they're willing to offer you something ridiculous for Miles Garrett.
02:18But at the same time, you're looking at a person who would be signing his own death warrant as a
02:24general manager in the NFL.
02:26If he trades that guy during this offseason, it is over.
02:30It is over.
02:32And I don't understand why we expect him to be traded.
02:34I know so many people have what they believe is the best option possible.
02:39And I'm not saying you're stupid.
02:40I'm not necessarily even shooting it down.
02:42I'm not pointing that out.
02:43I'm not trying to be disrespectful.
02:45You can't possibly shoot it down.
02:46You can't.
02:47You can't.
02:47You can't shoot it.
02:48Well, no, I don't think you can shoot it down no matter what he said yesterday.
02:51I'm not shooting it down, but I'm telling you, it's going to drive you nuts.
02:56It's going to drive me nuts.
02:57It's going to drive us all nuts.
02:58If we continue to go through this every other day when it comes to the league meetings, OTAs, draft talk,
03:06all that stuff, there will be times where it heats up again.
03:09When the draft comes here in a month or the draft comes to the calendar in a month, these conversations
03:15will heat up again.
03:15I'm not trying to be ignorant towards the situation here.
03:19But I'm saying, guys, if we don't just move on and accept him as a Cleveland Brown, guys, you're going
03:24to be pulling your hair out here.
03:26It's going to be a frustrating amount of time.
03:28So he said what he said.
03:30If somebody calls, fine, but I don't think they're shopping Miles Garrett.
03:34If you think they're shopping Miles Garrett, then I guess we have to have ourselves a knockdown dragout.
03:39Is there a difference?
03:40I mean, we all know the teams that are going to be looking to go after Miles.
03:44It's not like it's going to be some big mystery about teams that are trying to, you know, add the
03:49best pass rusher and best defensive player in football.
03:53We know who's, you have Philadelphia.
03:54Yesterday, there were videos and pictures at the owners' meetings of Andrew Barry and Howie Roseman having very long conversations.
04:02Like, where do you think people are going to go with that?
04:03So whether they're shopping him.
04:05He's not allowed to talk to a friend he used to work for.
04:07Sure.
04:08He's not allowed to have a conversation with a friend he used to work for.
04:10Sure, and John Dorsey and who was the guy from the Giants were sitting right next to each other.
04:15And you could have said the same thing.
04:16Oh, they're not allowed to talk.
04:17And I probably did say the same thing back then.
04:20They're allowed to talk, but who knows how this works.
04:22They have to talk.
04:23So they're going to stand out there.
04:24They can't do a trade without talking, Ken.
04:26So they're going to stand out there and pound out the negotiations for a Miles Garrett trade in front of
04:31God and everybody.
04:31You think that's how this works?
04:33Please.
04:34We're sure that wasn't Andrew Barry's twin brother who works for the Eagles.
04:37Right.
04:38Could have been Adam Barry.
04:39Exactly the point.
04:40I've joked about that before that they could play a lot of pranks.
04:451980s slash 90s sitcom pranks on a lot of different teams.
04:49Who are the guys from Weekend at Bernie's?
04:51That always seemed to be like their hijinks in the 80s.
04:53They had a very strong run there.
04:55But you don't...
04:57Guys, I'm trying to save us all a lot of time and trouble.
05:00Well, that's not for you to do.
05:02That's not your job.
05:03Yes, it is.
05:03Your job is not to act like none of this is happening out there.
05:08I'm not acting like none of it's happening.
05:09Obviously, since the day Miles Garrett asked for a trade, well, the week or the month or whatever it was
05:16that he asked for a trade.
05:17And the fact that, you know, even signing the contract, people thought the door was still open.
05:21And then they revised the contract and no one has a real reason.
05:25And then Andrew Barry had every chance, every chance in the world to just shoot it down immediately and did
05:32not do that, did not take the opportunity to do that.
05:35And nobody can figure out why he would have done this maneuvering when it doesn't seem to really, according to
05:41the experts that look at this stuff consistently 24-7, like didn't, didn't, they can't find a real reason other
05:49than to keep the flexibility if they trade him.
05:51I know, I know that there's a need for extra draft picks for a lot of people.
05:58However, Andrew Barry was asked this question yesterday, where he was asked, why don't you need to move on from
06:03Miles Garrett?
06:04We'll always do what we think is in the best interest of the organization.
06:08We really like our core.
06:09I mean, I think as we look at the team, you know, we have an elite young defense, rebuilt offensive
06:13line.
06:14We have, what, nine picks this upcoming draft.
06:17We have a good offensive young core that we brought in last year.
06:21That's Andrew Barry, okay?
06:24Guys, you just hired a new head coach.
06:26You torpedo the season if you trade away Miles Garrett.
06:28And then you might torpedo his reign as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
06:31I mean, for all the craziness that we've had to deal with here over the last, there's so much about
06:36it that doesn't make sense.
06:37I can't say it's a done deal, but yes, I do think that there's a difference.
06:41I'm not trying to be silly here.
06:43I do think there's a difference between shopping a player and just being open to conversation,
06:49which you're always open to conversation.
06:50But I don't believe they have intentions to trade Miles Garrett just because of what they had done over the
06:56last week.
06:57I don't think that that is their main goal is to trade that man.
07:02If somebody calls somebody calls.
07:03I don't think it's the goal either.
07:05To speculate about it, it's just going to make everybody feel horrific all throughout the summer.
07:09This is not our job to make people feel good.
07:12That's never been my job.
07:13I don't think it's your job either.
07:15And it's obviously one of the big off-season conversations that have been had on every national show.
07:23But we're not a national show.
07:24So we're supposed to lie to the people?
07:26I'm not lying to them.
07:27I mean, Kenny, what did we say when they changed that?
07:32We're acting like Friday didn't occur.
07:34You said Friday, like, yeah, they might trade him.
07:37And I asked you point blank, like, would you be shocked if they traded him?
07:40And you said no.
07:41No, I wouldn't be.
07:42But what is the entire point of bringing it up every single damn day?
07:45I didn't bring it up today.
07:46You brought it up.
07:48So this wasn't an agreed-upon thing to talk about the possibility of him moving on from Miles Garrett.
07:53That was the bulk of the press conference yesterday.
07:56No, we have even worse press conference materials for people when it comes to the quarterback situation.
08:02So we can move on to that one.
08:04But unless you want to coddle our fans and listeners and make sure they don't hear things they don't want
08:09to hear,
08:10like, are we supposed to ignore that conversation, too?
08:12Guys, am I just saving you a lot of time and trouble and energy and frustration if I say,
08:16couldn't we just move on now?
08:17Can't we just take his word for it as it is right now and move on?
08:20Or am I trying to coddle you and pat everybody's ass?
08:25Is that what I'm trying to do?
08:26Because I'm thinking, guys, you're going to drive yourself crazy if we sit here
08:30and continuously have these conversations throughout the summertime.
08:33Miles is a career brown.
08:36He is one of the faces of our organization.
08:38I think we've been very clear, both past and present, in terms of our feelings.
08:42I understand all the questions.
08:44I'll be honest, I don't really want to waste a ton more breath on it.
08:51He's never going to say never.
08:53He's never going to say never.
08:55So you guys can ask him all the questions you want.
08:58And I don't understand this Dick Tracy type of thing of, oh, my gosh, does he really mean it?
09:05Does he, does he really, pretty hot under these lights, Andrew Barry?
09:09Like, guys, if he gets traded, he gets traded.
09:11But he's not going to tell you he's going to trade.
09:13He's not going to shop the guy.
09:14He's not openly shopping the guy.
09:16Yes, they're going to leave some flexible options.
09:18Yes, Miles might get upset this year and ask for a trade.
09:20We all know that that's a possibility, too.
09:22Like, there's so many different things that could happen.
09:24But technically, do we know if he's done that behind the scenes?
09:28Right now?
09:29I think we know.
09:30Wouldn't we know?
09:31Would we?
09:32Why wouldn't we know?
09:34Maybe, maybe he's, after the last situation, maybe there's been, you know, some, some, I don't know if you call
09:44it growth or whatever.
09:45But, you know, he's not going to do anything to screw the franchise because he doesn't want to put him
09:50in a spot.
09:51Remember, he still wants to go somewhere where he would want to go, right?
09:53He doesn't want to just go to anybody.
09:54And he has a no trade clause, you know, to boot.
09:57But maybe it's amicable.
09:59I don't know.
10:00Oh, well, if you do, if you decide to move on, it will be something that's amicable.
10:07Because he can't really, he's got a no trade clause, but it's not like he can hold it over to
10:11you.
10:12You don't really want to hold it over to him.
10:13You're going to make a decision.
10:14If you're making this decision and going forward with it, you're making it for the betterment of your franchise long
10:19term is what you're trying to do.
10:20But what I'm pointing out to everybody.
10:22Right, so you just admit it.
10:23They could be doing something that could actually work out for the franchise.
10:26That's the whole point of any of this.
10:28I just, I don't know.
10:29My takeaway after all this was, look, they clearly did something to the contract.
10:33It doesn't really benefit them salary cap wise.
10:35What it does, it benefits them.
10:36If they decide to trade them, they're leaving the door open for a trade.
10:39He never said no during any of it.
10:41Well, they can move money around regardless.
10:42So, yes, it does benefit them with the salary cap.
10:44It does.
10:45They move that money around regardless.
10:47Do they not?
10:48That's what I read from Jack Duffin.
10:49Every single person I read on this said this was creating flexibility for if they trade him, that it doesn't
10:55screw them.
10:56So they hadn't done that in the past.
10:57They could have done that in the past.
10:59They chose not to.
10:59They did it this time.
11:02They were bad again.
11:03Obviously, part of this whole thing of him not getting traded and signing the contract was, you know, him signing
11:10off on the plan, right?
11:11Well, since then, what's been their record?
11:13What have they done?
11:14It's been bad.
11:14And they're expected to be bad again this year.
11:16Uh-huh.
11:17So, Miles, I mean, wouldn't it just, like, I asked you on Friday if you'd be shocked if they trade
11:21him.
11:22You said no.
11:22No.
11:22I said no.
11:23But I think you're driving.
11:25I think fans.
11:25You even said fans are at peace with it on Friday.
11:27I think fans would be at peace with it.
11:30But I don't think it's very healthy to sit there and analyze it every single week or every single day
11:37of every single week leading up to the draft.
11:39Now, when the draft comes here, I'm not going to be silly here, but I just think it's silly because
11:44you said, well, every national show.
11:45Okay, well, we're a local show.
11:47So, yeah, if we were national, if you and I were national, and we were looking at this from 30
11:51,000 feet, and we'd be sitting there going, okay, what do the Lions need?
11:54What do the Eagles need?
11:56Et cetera, et cetera.
11:58But we're not.
11:58We're in Cleveland.
11:59And I do think there is some responsibility to not drive the fans insane talking about trading the greatest player
12:04in defensive history for this football team every single damn day.
12:07Now, today, it is Jermaine.
12:09Today, it is Jermaine.
12:10He said these comments yesterday.
12:11I'm not fighting even talking about the comments today.
12:14It's not what I'm pointing out.
12:15I'm just pointing out to everybody that, man, if you guys keep obsessing about this, you're going to drive yourself
12:20crazy because there is clearly, if they do get a call, the price is going to be astronomical.
12:27So whoever is willing to make the call is a serious person only.
12:33Now, it might be better to do it this summer.
12:34I'm not going to regret – I'm not going to walk away from that.
12:37I just think it's better for all of us to possibly move on because you're going to drive yourself nuts.
12:44And do they really want – the deal's the deal.
12:48But I just don't believe that Andrew Barry would sit here and go through all this stuff about all these
12:54different moves to make, all these trades, to sit here and deal with the history that is the Deshaun Watson
13:00deal,
13:00and then turn right around, and even though I could make the argument – like, say if they did.
13:05Okay, let's toy with this notion for a moment.
13:07Say they gave them up for three first-round picks.
13:09Say you got three ones for Miles Garrett and some change, right?
13:14I could look Andrew Barry in the eye.
13:16I could shake his hand.
13:16I could go, you're doing what you believe is best for this football team, the best for this organization.
13:21I cannot ever accuse you of just trying to hold on to your job.
13:25But you know going in, you're a lame duck general manager.
13:28You're not going to win very many games.
13:30It torpedoes the locker room.
13:32It torpedoes the coaching staff because you've gotten rid of the player of the generation, and it torpedoes the fan
13:37base.
13:38If anybody's getting their season tickets renewed or anybody's going to these games this year right off the rip, right
13:44off, they're going to see 95.
13:46I mean, hey, I can be a football guy and give you all the Grant Delpit arguments I want.
13:51The general population ain't going because they think the Browns are going to be a tremendous juggernaut of a football
13:56team this year.
13:57They're going because it's tradition.
13:59They love the Browns, and they're going to see 95 play.
14:01And if 95's not there and he's been traded for picks in the future in 2027 and 2028, okie dokie,
14:09see you in 27 and 28.
14:11So it's going to drive fans crazy, and I don't see a reason to drive Cleveland fans crazy about bringing
14:19it up every day after today.
14:21I'm done.
14:22I'm not going to be sitting there thinking about it every day.
14:24I just think it's pretty obvious that, you know, if I were to make a bet on whether or not
14:29Myles Garrett's here in two years, I'd say probably not.
14:34I don't know.
14:35I don't think it's that easy.
14:36I don't think it's that easy to move on from the guy.
14:38I don't.
14:39I think that even if a new general manager were to come in here, you have to deal with your
14:45owner.
14:45And your owner is looking for, I think he's looking for anything that brings credence to legitimization of this football
14:53team.
14:53I know I'm saying a lot of words here.
14:55I think he's looking for anybody that the fans can count on.
14:59That's why we've drug it out with Joel Batonio, and we're still figuring out whether or not Joel Batonio wants
15:03to come back.
15:04It's still been weeks now since that contract had to come to fruition there.
15:08So you're still dragging it out on Joel.
15:10You're going to continue to drag it out on Myles.
15:13You're trying to find something that the fans can relate to.
15:17Somebody that's going to give them hope.
15:19Because right now, yeah, there's some good young guys, but they're not Myles.
15:24Unfortunately, Myles doesn't really bring the hope.
15:26It just brings amazing play from a dominant defensive player.
15:31But unfortunately, that in and of itself has not really brought fans a lot of hope.
15:35What is going to bring them hope is obviously fixing the quarterback situation.
15:38And I hate to say it.
15:39You trade Myles for a haul of picks, and then what does it do?
15:43Not only does it get you those picks, but it also means that the Browns are going to be able
15:48to get the No. 1, No. 2, or No. 3 pick in next year's draft.
15:50Because they're going to be bad.
15:51I understand.
15:52And that is going to bring fans more hope than what Myles has been able to bring them.
15:56You know, I also did a podcast.
15:59I was a guest on a podcast over the weekend there.
16:01And they were asking me several questions about this in particular.
16:04And maybe that's why I'm a little sensitive to it.
16:06It wasn't their fault they asked me the questions.
16:07But also, I did that thing that I told you I wasn't going to do where I started to talk
16:12myself into maybe them being a little bit better than what I think they're going to be this year.
16:15Because I've been saying five, six wins.
16:17And then I started to think, well, you got some veterans there.
16:20If you go, and I'm starting to think maybe they'll go wide receiver.
16:22And I'll tell you why at another time here during this show, more than likely.
16:25It's like, say you take a wide receiver at six.
16:27You got these veterans here on your offensive line.
16:29You've switched out your offensive line.
16:31But you're hoping that George Warhop is going to be able to keep everything together and do as good a
16:36job as possible while you make these moves, right?
16:39If you are not playing the best schedule because you're playing against teams that were like you last year, and
16:46your strength of schedule is going to be low,
16:48if you get yourself a wide receiver that the defense has to take seriously, the defense has to adjust to,
16:54if you take that type of guy who are either he's open or I open up Quinchon Junkins with the
17:01running game,
17:01or I open up Harold Fannin Jr. with the tight end, or God forbid, you know, you get something out
17:06of Jerry Judy and Isaiah Bond.
17:08Maybe the offense will be a little bit better.
17:10If the defense stays the defense, maybe you can win seven, eight games.
17:14And I start to talk myself into these things.
17:16And if you get rid of 95, that's it.
17:18That's it.
17:19There's no reason for them to come to your stadium.
17:22To what?
17:23To watch the kids play again?
17:26They did that in 16-17, and you know how that stadium looked.
17:29If any fan base knows how that feels like and can mentally prepare for that kind of a season, it's
17:35the Browns fan base.
17:36And I don't want them to have to do it.
17:38If he gets traded, I'll deal with it.
17:42I'm not out there rooting for it.
17:44I think that this is a very delicate situation.
17:46But the thing that I say to everybody is that, you know, it's easy to say it when we go,
17:52hey, let's just make the picks and let's just get these picks back and go on.
17:55You have to actually live it to actually have to go through it and actually have to give a product
17:59that the fan base wants.
18:00Without 95 this year is nearly impossible.
18:04And so, no, I don't care who he was talking to in front of God and everybody because I don't
18:09think that they're hashing out a trade right in front of everybody at the league meetings with him and Howie
18:13Roseman.
