00:00With the draft coming up at the end of April,
00:03they're getting all pumped up.
00:05Everybody's excited.
00:06You get a chance to talk to Andrew Barry,
00:08you can ask him questions.
00:09Wow.
00:10That's what they're doing out at the owners' meetings.
00:13One of the topics that was hit on early
00:16dealt with the standout defensive end of the Cleveland Browns,
00:20and that was Miles Garrett,
00:21because we've heard buzz about could you trade him?
00:26Do you want to trade him?
00:28What's the deal?
00:28Micah Parsons goes to Green Bay, gets a big haul.
00:32Max Crosby, two first-rounders, and then nope, he's not good.
00:35Trey Hendrickson signs.
00:37A lot of defensive end talk in the last year or so.
00:40Miles Garrett, of course, was in a lot of that
00:42because he said he wanted to trade it, and then he didn't.
00:45Well, here's what Andrew Barry said about Miles Garrett's status
00:49as a member of the Browns.
00:51So can you state unequivocally that you're not trading Miles Garrett?
00:54I'd say this, Mary Kay.
00:57Miles is a career Brown.
01:00He is one of the faces of our organization.
01:02I think we've been very clear, both past and present,
01:05in terms of our feelings.
01:06So I understand all the questions.
01:09I'll be honest, I don't really want to waste a ton more breath on the topic.
01:15Well, he didn't answer the question.
01:17He didn't answer it at all, did he?
01:18No.
01:19Didn't say he wasn't going to trade him.
01:20Okay, he was the face of the franchise.
01:22Correct, Browns fans, right?
01:24Right, okay.
01:25I think he's a career Brown.
01:26You're not a career Brown until you end your career.
01:28With his team, or until they send you packing and send you somewhere else.
01:33What are you going to say?
01:34That didn't leave me with a, we're not trading him.
01:37No.
01:38But it left me with a, we don't care to trade him.
01:41You know what that means?
01:43If the phone rings and somebody offers you three number ones.
01:48Miles, we love you, but we got a chance to fix the franchise.
01:52Really great to have you here.
01:55He did not answer the question.
01:57And then he got irritated at the end.
01:59That's not like him.
02:00That's not very Andrew Barry-esque.
02:02He sounded a little irritated.
02:04I don't want to waste any more time.
02:05Andy, his thought partners aren't here anymore to help keep him on the straight.
02:08You're saying he's got to think by himself?
02:10Well, I don't know.
02:12Everybody's favorite press conference where you ask questions and I barely answer them.
02:17Dan, there's another little snippet I'd like to hear.
02:20You have cut seven ready?
02:21Yep.
02:23Andrew Barry on maybe a need to trade Miles Garrett?
02:28Let's hear what he had to say.
02:28Ooh, good question.
02:29We'll always do what we think is in the best interest of the organization.
02:33We really like our core.
02:34I think as we look at the team, you know, we have an elite young defense,
02:37rebuilt offensive line.
02:38We have, what, nine picks this upcoming draft.
02:41We have a good offensive young core that we brought in last year.
02:45Okay.
02:46So, in other words, he's kind of spouting off about the assets the team has and you don't
02:53necessarily need to trade Miles to add more pieces to the team.
02:58I can see that.
03:00I can see that because you have one of the premier players in the game on your team and you
03:05win
03:06with big time talent.
03:07Right.
03:08But he sounds as if he's confident that the rest of the roster will be competitive enough that that asset
03:16is better served for you on the football field than it is in accumulating other assets.
03:23Yay or nay?
03:25If this was tennis, I feel like we were a deuce.
03:27We're not going one way or another.
03:29I feel like we're just kind of limbo that they're playing it through this year and they're going to see
03:35what happens next year.
03:36That could all change with the draft and maybe someone will say, now, let's go for it now.
03:41Let's do it now.
03:42I just don't, I just feel like we're getting pushed into next season.
03:49Am I wrong?
03:52What do you mean pushed into?
03:53Like, I feel like we're going into another season.
03:55We're like, yeah, if we win, we really want to get teed up with more draft picks going into the
04:00season after and then we're going to be better.
04:03I just, I don't, I don't, no one gives me the confidence to think we're going out next season and
04:10we're going to try to win.
04:11We know that the AFC North might still be wide open for us, especially with all the changes with the
04:17coaching.
04:18This is a year of opportunity for the Browns.
04:20Does anyone hear that?
04:21I don't hear that in anyone's, I haven't heard that at all since the end of the season.
04:26Tell me this is going to be a year of opportunity.
04:28Tell me this is going to be a year where the front office is all in and that they want
04:34to win this year.
04:35I just, I don't feel it.
04:37So you want them to lie to you?
04:42No, I want them to be truthful.
04:43I want that to be the truth.
04:45By the way, this could be a year of opportunity.
04:47This could be in the situation where everything clicks and comes together and all of that stuff.
04:52But if that's the case, a lot of things need to all go right at the same time.
04:56And if I'm Andrew Barry, I'm not going to walk out there and say, yeah, we're going to have 13
04:59things all go right exactly at the same time.
05:01How about, I just, it's more about, there's a level of confidence when you listen to people.
05:07Yes, I think we're going to have a good team this year.
05:09I really feel like if things go our way, this could be our year, but it's not.
05:14We all know it.
05:15Okay, let me throw this in.
05:17If you're accurate and they're kind of being pushed into this and you're not thinking, you know, we're going for
05:26it this year,
05:27wouldn't Miles serve you better as a trade asset than on the field?
05:33Yes.
05:34Okay.
05:35And maybe, okay, this is another problem that maybe I have because I'm aged on this, that I kind of
05:41feel like, and I don't know, is it cheddar cheese?
05:45You're going to know exactly what I'm saying when I say it.
05:47I think that we saw the model that the Indians used to walk into their new ballpark.
05:52And we've seen this with other franchises too, knowing that they're going into a new stadium and what they want.
05:58Philly's getting Jim Tomey.
06:00Exactly.
06:01Exactly.
06:01And that the Browns are just kind of hanging in here.
06:06Treading water in a slow build.
06:08Gosh, I don't know, Andy.
06:09I don't want to believe that, but wouldn't it be nice to be a playoff team the year before you
06:15go into the Dome?
06:16And then all of a sudden, maybe you're a team to be reckoned with early on.
06:21And then all of a sudden, we've got this new home now and it's a tough place to play.
06:26Wouldn't it be great if you turned the thinking on the franchise to an extreme positive well before you ever
06:32got to the Dome?
06:34Exactly.
06:34That would mean like go for it next year and beyond.
06:37Yeah.
06:38You don't want the Dome to have to be the thing that changes the thinking on the franchise.
06:44The Dome's not going anywhere.
06:46Players come and go all the time.
06:48It feels like you stumbled into that timeline, though.
06:51Like, it kind of feels like this wasn't the plan, but it became the plan.
06:57But the other aspect of that, though?
07:00You know, I didn't want to buy a car, but the engine fell out of mine, so here we are.
07:05True.
07:06Is that one of Jeff's old cars?
07:08No.
07:08No, he always kept his engines in.
07:10If we're thinking 2027 with the quarterback and all that stuff, well, the Dome's not opening until 2029.
07:16Correct.
07:17Which is why I don't think that's totally the timeline, but I think the rebuild is here, even though they
07:22didn't want the rebuild to be here.
07:24I mean, it's three full seasons before you possibly move into the Dome, and that's assuming things end on time
07:31and you do move in in 2029.
07:34There's also this Watson lag, I'll call it.
07:37But, you know, they got nothing out of that deal.
07:42And you're waiting to see how this thing ends.
07:46See how it ends?
07:47You're just waiting for it to end, dude.
07:48At least to me, I kind of don't care how it ends.
07:50I just need it to end.
07:51Yeah, well, you're waiting to...
07:52What was the line?
07:53What was I reading today that if he didn't...
07:56Maybe we have a cut.
07:57That Andrew was talking about, well, you never...
07:59I mean, you never know.
08:00If he has a good year this year, who's going to stop them from re-signing?
08:05That's the part of the deal.
08:06It's just like...
08:08And so now we're kind of stuck in the mud on that.
08:10He threw out the idea that, you know, this might not be the end of the contract.
08:14Here it is.
08:15I think we're probably just more focused on performance and best players.
08:19Certainly, time horizon factors into that.
08:21But just with any veteran player, there's no rule against extending the player's contract if they perform and they do
08:27well.
08:28I wouldn't necessarily box it into any one approach.
08:32It really will be performance-based.
08:34Does every bronze interview have to be in front of a trash compactor?
08:38I think that was right next to the kitchen.
08:40They were just wheeling plates back and forth.
08:42You know why?
08:43Because as Andy talked about, it's all the food.
08:45It's the food.
08:46Right.
08:47They have a lot of food.
08:47They're eating way too much food.
08:48But at least you're getting some kind of nourishment.
08:49Andrew Barry speaking there.
08:51It's just noise-filled air.
08:52Don't we all kind of...
08:53It's the owner of 15.
08:54Has anybody, since Deshaun has come here and had the injury issues that he's had and the performance issues that
09:03he's had, forget all the off-the-field stuff that he brought along with him, just injury and performance.
09:10Has anybody thought that this thing was going to last longer than a five-year contract?
09:15And Andrew Barry just opened the door for that.
09:20Here we go.
09:21Here we go.
