00:54that his only option if he wants to pursue professional football don't do this and play
00:59this sport any longer don't do this and make a lot of money don't do this he was going to

01:04like five million dollars this year Texas Tech reportedly don't do this don't do this
01:12we got one more year don't do it I'm serious this is not the I don't guys it's not that
01:21he might be redeemable we are just starting can I just let another team be the canary in the coal

01:46going after they're not going after Brennan Soresby so Brennan Soresby's injunction uh according to
01:52Adam Schefter uh has been denied was ruled ineligible after he acknowledged gambling on sports including
01:57his own team while in Indiana the denial Texas Tech appeal is separate from Soresby's lawsuit against
02:02the NCAA so maybe there's a possibility here but don't be going after him please

03:12interesting type of character concern um because we we are still trying to know wrap our arms around
03:20gambling and the addiction and what it means for this generation of you know not just
03:27student athletes but just in everybody's home like I asked Owen I'd like to let somebody else
03:33learn it first yeah I asked Owen on Friday what percentage of high school students because he's
03:40right now he's he's mentoring high school students and they're they're running through your house like
03:45crazy and I said what percentage of place to bet yeah I'd say it's pretty high what you said kind
03:51of was staggering you mean high school students in general yeah well especially yeah okay I mean I don't
03:57know non-athletic high school students like that aren't doing some sort of sport okay well yeah
04:02all your kids play sports so yeah yeah so I'd say it's over 50 and that 50 percent yeah that
04:08are and
04:09then I mean guys they get together and they have poker games and they and that's a different type
04:13of gambling altogether but these kids are trading money well for for sport listen I mean if there's
04:22you know back in the day if somebody knew somebody's dad who had a barber shop or something
04:27like that or they were the member of an elks club or something there what are you gonna do all

04:33some of it is what are you gonna do uh if they're putting together an NCAA poll a basketball bracket

04:40we did that some of that stuff what are you gonna do you having a poker night whatever with the

04:45fine what are you gonna do but when it comes to this stuff like it's it seems to be a

04:51I don't like the the whole the story I heard about the parents getting it on their kids phones or
04:57something is disastrous to me yeah ridiculous but okay I I just I this is not the place that we

05:07looking for guys and I'm going I know it's you guys are set up for a season that might not

05:13might not be so great I mean seven wins if I'm picking six or seven wins which I was at

05:18and now I'm dropping it to six is not a great season that means that there's gonna be a lot

05:23turmoil a lot of struggling a lot of strife and I know you want something to show for it you

05:29something to look forward to Brendan Swordsby ain't that guy he's just not why is he not that guy because
05:35of all you know what I should you haven't talked about his talent no because I'm not but when I

05:40the coach of the Browns does it matter to you about his talent obviously it does that's why he's in
05:45the conversation you'd be okay with the Steelers getting him I don't if you are then that means you
05:50don't think he's that talented only history of me no only history of me that's not no that's not
05:56the case there's been plenty of guys that have been talented that have flamed out and have not
05:59been able to be much for their football teams the Steelers have had a couple I know that we've had
06:03a few more but the Steelers have even had a couple there there's been plenty of guys that have been
06:10one a piece of them and when I heard Todd Munkin not just say hey we're only focused on our
06:14own
06:14quarterback room here which would be the answer no he went further into depth and then continued to go
06:20into depth about it it kind of made me go no this is this would be a disaster this would
06:24be a disaster
06:25already happening I don't need any more disasters I need something that's even even though it's not
06:29going to win a lot of games I need something that's going to be somewhat efficient this year
06:33and I think that they can be efficient this year without the without the possibility of dropping
06:38in somebody who has an issue with gambling an admitted issue with gambling and I I understand
06:44I sound like reefer madness back in the day I got it I know that everything should be supported in
06:48moderation we all have our vices clearly I have more than one but I just don't think that we're the
06:55right place at the right time for this guy and I know that bothers a lot of people because when
07:01are
07:01we ever going to be the right place at the right time for any guy I understand that but again
07:05I'd much
07:06rather have somebody else experiment and see what they do before I go jumping in this water it's not
07:12like he's a one-off he will be one of very many more to come very many more to come

07:18this two weeks ago when you and I were talking about this guy or I would guarantee you I'd be
07:22willing to put a lot at stake that out of the 253 or 55 guys that were drafted last year

07:28draft that one of them at least has put money down on football college football maybe even their own
07:34team I'm not going to sit here and act ignorant to that situation it's not a team of boy scouts

07:42man I got this we're talking about the franchise quarterback here and if you give up a significant
07:47enough pick in a in a in a supplemental draft to bring him in what's it do for your future

07:53you're going to do for the draft are you are we just throwing picks against the wall here at this
07:57time what maybe we are I mean they they kind of prove they kind of proved last year that they
08:01were throwing picks against the wall when they took Gabriel right well but this is this is supposed
08:05to be a first round talent guy they do well yeah but right now it you know there's still a

08:10speculation and you know it's funny we played the clips of Todd Munkin talking about Sorsby and I did
08:15say like the format of the supplemental it does it does kind of stand to reason that you want to
08:20throw
08:21other clubs off the set because of how the auction works or you know how you go about you know
08:27claiming a player like this and they do have extra picks in the third and the fourth round I mean
08:32you really attack them personally if you're Todd Munkin that's exactly what you'd want to do you'd
08:35want to throw everybody off we wanted you so bad we decided to publicly shame you well would you
08:40rather okay so what if he goes gambling addiction so do they do they look equally as silly if he
08:44ends
08:44up victimizing the Browns for the next 10 years on the Steelers and it's like of course remember when
08:48the head coach went off on the on the player and then it came back to bite him twice a
08:54year every
08:54single year I know that's a big one hanging out either way I know that either way you're damned
08:58if you do damned if you don't what what I'm wondering is I don't know if I'm does it well
09:01does it matter here's what I want to know does it matter to you the facts the actual facts of

09:08specific case right now which we don't have a full and comprehensive picture all we have is reports like
09:14we do know I'm looking at the Dan Wetzel article um included 40 times included 40 wagers on IU football
09:21while he was part of that team so that was you know how old was he then was he was
09:27he 19 old
09:28enough to know better when that was sure but are you old enough to know better at 25 at 30

09:33does does is this something he could come back from is what I'm asking yes it's something he could
09:37come back from but are we the place that is the the conducive place for him to come back from

09:49quarterback in the 2027 draft that's as good or better than Brendan Soresby it's not the Kellen
09:54Winslow situation with Ben Roethlisberger where we don't take a quarterback I mean this is all done
09:59with the assumption that they're going to take a quarterback coming up next year in 2027 so if
10:03they take a quarterback that ends up being better than Brendan Soresby but if that's the case he's a
10:07great story I didn't think that we were the right place for it so fine I guess we'll do battle

10:11AFC North for years to come if we get the right guy so what what's a to me I'll ask

10:16better way to go about doing that is it to lose as many games as possible trade off Denzel Ward

10:22yourself in a position where you get to dictate the terms of next year's draft or would it be hey
10:27you take Soresby he red shirts will get suspended but red shirts most of this year anyway and you
10:33don't have to worry about celebrating losses because that's what we'd be doing we'd have to
10:37celebrate losses I know the way you're painting it I understand the way you're painting it and I
10:41would paint it the same way no what you've done is right because what you've done is you've put me
10:45into a corner where I have to tell people that they have to hope that the Browns lose I don't
10:48want to hope that the Browns lose I just think that it might happen naturally and everybody wants
10:52their answer as soon as they possibly can but if I don't think that we're going to be the right
10:58situation for each other then I'm just wasting that time anyway because if he's still suspended
11:02we still probably won't do that well anyway and even if he were a rookie that got to play every
11:06single game they'll probably not still not going to do that well like the 2027 Browns even if you
11:11take that quarterback yes you're going to raise the level of expectations you're going to raise
11:17your level of play but you could still see them being in 2027 a 9 and 8 football team hopefully
11:22you could still see them being maybe it may be a 10 and 7 which would be a tremendous success
11:26for them
11:26but usually around 500 maybe just under 500 still even with that rookie QB so you still got to get
11:32through the woods here and I just don't think it's the right investment I think it's a scary investment
11:37what are the types of teams that can absorb honestly teams this type of situation I would
11:42say the teams that already have long-term starters but they wouldn't want to put that type of money
11:46down or that type of pick down on a supplemental draft so now it forces us the Cardinals the Dolphins
11:51uh the Jets uh I guess the Steelers would be involved in this in supplemental because they're not out of
11:57the woods themselves you were mentioning all the bad teams that need a quarterback yes and then
12:01to that I would I'm just wondering then why not us it's it's other bad teams they can do it

12:06can't because I'd rather them make the mistake and I think it would probably end up being a mistake

14:45him in that's immediately the first questions that are asked and it's going first hundred
14:48how much how much power does like you understand how much power does Todd Munkin have well why would
14:54he say that sort of thing and then you go out there and get him has he had to come

14:58well I guess how bad our quarterback room really is so how long do we have to wait on Brendan

15:02are all these guys just uh placeholders as they are depending on who starts was that really Todd
15:08Munkin's decision if Todd Munkin could say these things and you still take this quarterback
15:11then I guess he doesn't he's not able to make a lot of decisions like you still add that in

15:15that's before he even plays and then if he does play like think about this he comes here let's say
15:21you go and you get him in the supplemental draft all right say you get Brendan Soresby everybody
15:25do you or do you not think the first turd he hands in as a quarterback how many calls how
15:30many
15:31a dozen yeah yeah that'll follow him that we have that dump and that's not just today that's not just
15:36this year that's probably for the rest of his career so it's not just the pressure of
15:41being unless he's just good the franchise if he looks like a top five pick I think that goes
15:45out the window quarterbacks go through you are right but all quarterbacks go through ebbs and flows
15:50you look through Josh Allen's career and you look at the game logs there are months where he's just
15:55kind of existing and it's not like he's the world's worst quarterback he might have a clunker
16:01here there every great quarterback has a clunker here and there but there's games where he's just not
16:05that great and then he gets it back because he's an elite level quarterback Lamar Jackson the same
16:11way Mahomes the same way Joe Burrow even and I know we've gone back and forth about Joe
16:15and nobody brings up that those guys are on the take if they have a bad game this is the
16:21first thing
16:22that people are going to bring up and it I don't wish him poorly I don't know the guy at
16:27all I don't
16:27know the guy at all I have no idea but because there's been so many questions about the character
16:32because there's been so many questions about the the gambling addiction I go no are we crazy this
16:37isn't the right place for him so I I do love a lot of ways it can go right but
16:41boy there's just
16:42more that can go wrong I have to laugh though when when you know we do these deep dives and

16:48we've talked about Arch Manning to death for two years just because of the last name and who he is
16:54and you know the the guys that project these do evaluations for living the draft world like they they
17:01talk about these guys and then it spills over to the local shows or the podcasts you know in every
17:07town and they start talking about guys this one's funny because you know yeah I had never mentioned
17:13Sorsby at all I had never mentioned him once uh but it is funny to hear fans say oh now

17:18anybody but Shador or now we got to mention the next group of guys where did this guy's name come
17:23up and I'm like he was going to make five million dollars at Texas Tech they were going to make
17:29him
17:29one of the highest paid quarterbacks this year so he didn't fall out of thin air this is somebody who
17:33was was going to go to one of the programs spending the most amount of money this year
17:37so when Albert Breer says he would have been a top five pick that he's not making that up
17:42like projection you know it's if he had a terrible year but he was probably going to go to a
17:47great
17:47situation Texas Tech was spending a lot of money across the board like he was going to be a Heisman
17:53contender and like this is somebody whose name would have been would have been pretty massive in
17:57next year's draft I get that and if he did not have these other issues obviously there wouldn't be a
18:01question but if he didn't have these other issues then he wouldn't be in the supplemental draft so he'd
18:05just be another name and if I'm not mistaken I did write his name down on the 2027 sheet and
18:10I'm
18:10going to have to look that up but I mean you've had several people and social media reactions on

18:46the quarterback position so you can be as mad as you want to and say as many nasty things and

18:50into as many DMs but I'm the wrong person to be going after if you're going after anybody go after
18:55the Browns because they're telling you exactly what they think of the guy and they would not
18:59accept that reality they would not have traded Miles Garrett exactly Shador would have had Jackson
19:04Dart season I can love Dion do people do people disagree with that I agree with you I would love
19:09to know if fans disagree with that if if it was the Jackson Dart situation going into this year and
19:14there is real excitement there with the Giants about Jackson Dart had he have had that year Shador had
19:20had that type of a year they would not have traded Miles no they would not have so I have
19:25to look at this
19:25and be as brutally honest as possible about it with Brendan Sorsby is that yes there brings an
19:30opportunity there but also if I'm going to do this I'm going to go through this I want to go
19:34for it
19:34for the right guy not just the next guy and I want to do that like hey guys I can
19:39like Dion all I want
19:40but when the Browns did what they did I have to face reality and the reality of it is is
19:44they don't
19:45believe that their quarterback is currently on the roster and they've done desperate things before
19:49like paying another guy how much money to come here and that not working out they've done desperate
19:55moves before like trading up and going after some guys making a couple of of bold moves there and
20:00it's never really worked out and I know that probably there will be another bold move that's
20:04available that has to be made before next year's draft but just it doesn't feel like it's going to mix
20:10I know not a lot of people know much about Brendan Sorsby here other than the situation that's that's
20:15played out for him because not a lot of people are watching Cincinnati football here or they weren't
20:19planning on watching Texas Tech football this coming season so I know he's not really in a place that a
20:23lot of
20:23people pay attention to right off the rip but it just I gotta tell you tone it just it feels
20:28like
20:28it's the wrong place the wrong time the wrong situation just give me one more season to figure
20:36it out and if he goes out there and he plays if he gets picked up by somebody and he
20:41serves whatever
20:42Roger Goodell believes he should serve for for however long and he goes out there and he plays well
20:47yeah you can come out and rip me for it because I guess I was afraid to go over and
20:50make that decision but
20:51there's been plenty of decisions that they've been made that they have made that have just come
20:55out foolhardy and desperate do you think instead of taking stones to do it based on what he has been
21:01accused of and what the reporting is and what we know and by the way all three of those things
21:06are
21:06different like they're they're wild accusations that we don't know about I'm just going by what's in
21:12the Dan Wetzel story about you know those bets placed when he was 18 and 19 years old he came
21:17in as a
21:18very young player um and then there are there is speculation about money that was set to other
21:25people with accounts right so you have to take that with a lot of gravity you have to be dead
21:30serious I mean if you're the Browns and you're you're snooping around this stuff like you have to
21:35know is there anything to you that is so bad that he should not be able to play football in
21:41the NFL
21:42no okay that we know of that his eligibility should then no okay the only thing I know about
21:47is gambling that's it right is there anything else no but I'm asking the level of the level of
21:53gambling yeah the level of gambling does it matter to you no that that he should be able to play

21:58the NFL I'm just I just don't think my situation's the the right situation so it's okay you're you're

22:12some of these accusations I'm gonna have to take a risk on a guy like this at some point
22:16no doubt about it no doubt about it probably sometime in the next couple of drafts we will
22:21draft somebody at some position who has a history with gambling you can almost guarantee it guys I
22:26mean for the love of god by the time 2030 comes around that means high school guys right now are

22:31into college are going to end up getting drafted you think that we are going to take a guy who's
22:34had a
22:34history of gambling at some level who has been like told no to stop gambling it's gonna happen
22:39it's absolutely gonna happen it's not about me not being comfortable with it if I'm not comfortable
22:45with it then I guess I should just stop being a sports fan it's not about that it's about I'd
22:50rather
22:51another team go ahead and do that sort of thing and then see what what right deals they made what
22:58wrong
22:58mistakes they made and want to go through that and learn from them before I'm the one that goes ahead
23:03and does it it's almost the same way when I bring up the uh when I bring up the whole
23:07analytical
23:07approach to football I think a lot of teams have found their mix to the analytical approach of
23:12football who's the first one who really seemed to start that at least publicly it was the Browns
23:16and I think a lot of people use the Browns in the NFL as as a canary in a coal
23:21mine I hate to keep
23:22using that term they used us as a litmus test and then they saw what we did right what we
23:26did wrong
23:27and how we mix and only do the things that they did right because the things that we did wrong
23:31is we went
23:32too herky-jerky on one side of the pendulum to the other and once we got it down hopefully this
23:36is going to be able to work out the right way but I think a lot of teams because of
23:39that have
23:39surpassed us and I'd rather not be the team that is the experiment for everybody else about how to
23:44figure out what right and usually what not to do when it comes to a quarterback and when it comes
23:48to
23:49a quarterback that has an admitted issue with gambling here I'd rather somebody else do it and
23:53figure out all right what did so-and-so do to make Brendan Soresby work what did Brendan Soresby
23:59have to do to make this work what separates Soresby from quarterback X that's coming out that has a
24:05history with the gambling in 2031 somewhere in there I don't wish you'll will on him I just don't
24:11believe that this is the right place or time
