03:19Welcome to Be On The Table. I'm your host Mark Bussain.
03:35Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago.
03:37And of course, our international viewers.
03:40And our brothers and sisters in the Isles of Grenada.
03:43Yes, it's Friday and end of the work week for most of us.
03:47With the exception of the police and of course, the media and some other relevant personnel.
03:52We're always on duty.
03:54And today is Friday of course.
03:56And with us today is none other than ASP Joel Forbes from the Southwestern Division.
04:02Welcome sir.
04:03Thank you Mark.
04:04Thank you again.
04:05And to the viewers out there in TV land, thank you again for having me again today.
04:09Right.
04:10So Southwestern Division, you know, it's one of those areas that are very close to what you may call a hot spot area of contention right now between the United States and Venezuela.
04:21You know, and I just wanted to get an idea of what has crime been like overall in the Southwestern Division.
04:27We have been having a handle on crime.
04:30We have been responding to our reports, tending to our reports diligently.
04:34We have a lot of resources deployed within the division.
04:37And we are managing the crime as we see it.
04:40We have had a couple of recent reports of serious crime.
04:43And all officers, as we speak, they are on the ground right now, tending to those reports as best as they can with the resources that they have.
04:50We have had a 46% detection rate in the division, which is throughout the Trinanda-Bago Police Service, the third highest.
04:59So we are working diligently.
05:02We are putting the resources, putting the boots on the ground, putting the various initiatives in place.
05:07Hoping that, not just hoping, these things will evaluate them.
05:11And we hope that these things will bring the kind of results that we're going in.
05:14And again, we're going into the Christmas season.
05:17So we have heightened operations to welcome the yuletide season so that the public will be safe in the spaces,
05:26in some of the commercial spaces that we have within the division.
05:29So we are, all our plans are afoot.
05:32All our efforts are full steam ahead.
05:35And we are well into those plans.
05:39Now, on the social media platform and also the mainstream media, over the last couple of weeks,
05:44we've been seeing reports of alleged home invasions and home robberies in the Herberts town village in Guapo.
05:53Can you shed some light on that first?
05:55Well, what I can tell you, Mark, is that those things are not indeed as factual as they should be.
06:01Right?
06:02Again, we don't want to create that type of fear in the community.
06:05But I can tell you they were, I was able to see some of the reports that were by some other media outlets and that sort of thing.
06:12And they are inaccurate.
06:13They are totally inaccurate.
06:14I think I was up to this one, I spoke to the sergeant in the area.
06:17Right.
06:18We have, well, there was an instance of a crime, house breaking or larceny, so to the larceny, dwelling house, so to speak.
06:29That's where the person would have entered.
06:31Not the violent confrontation that is depicted in the home invasion.
06:35And then the other instances that were titled were instances that would have occurred within the last eight months some time ago.
06:41So we don't have the series of events that are being depicted in the social media captioned.
06:47But what we have is a couple instances and we are tending to them.
06:50And I can tell you, my conversation with the sergeant this morning in coming here,
06:54he would have told me that they are well and they have a number of suspects in custody
06:58and they're working actively on dealing with those issues going forward.
07:01So we are not, while we hear the outcry, we hear the outcry, we don't want to create that kind of fear mongering
07:10and that kind of situation going forward.
07:12The police is working with putting resources in these spaces to avoid these issues.
07:18So we have taken, what we have done though, because of the one instance that would have occurred,
07:23we have put resources in it to bring a positive resolution to it.
07:26So we're not going to this, we're not going to take it lightly.
07:29But at the same time, we're concerned that what we're trying to achieve is being undone
07:34by that irresponsible, unfactual depiction of the situation in that space.
07:41Not in maybe this instance, but is there a pattern that maybe when you speak to your other counterparts
07:47in other divisions, as it relates to home invasions,
07:50that you are always seeing that there are particular groups operating, you know, targeting persons,
07:57and it's the same persons.
07:59Well, I can, what I can speak to, there are groups that operate.
08:04I cannot say that if one happens in Aruka or it happens in Central, if it's the same group of persons.
08:10Right.
08:11I cannot speak to that.
08:12But I can tell you that multiple suspects, often that particular crime type involves multiple suspects.
08:18So there are grouped individuals that will function and perpetuate these acts as going forward.
08:23But to say that the same group is operating anywhere within Trinan-Tobegway cannot align or save
08:29or give that kind of definitive answer.
08:31Yes.
08:32Right.
08:33But what we can urge persons to do, what we do urge persons to do is to take the necessary countermeasures.
08:38We have urge persons in neighborhood watch groups.
08:43If you see something, call out to your neighbor.
08:45If you are being followed or you tell yourself that you're being followed,
08:48don't keep large quantities of cash or jewelry on your premises as well.
08:52There are safety police boxes that you could use in the bank, all these facilities.
08:56Do not keep cash.
08:57If you are a businessman, night deposit, there are night deposit facilities.
09:00You can contact your local police officer, police station.
09:03Have them escort you to do a night deposit if you need be.
09:07But as much as possible, what we try to practice is target hardening.
09:11Because what we recognize is that persons, they get the intelligence, so to speak,
09:17from a helper or somebody who come by to do a job.
09:21They make an observation.
09:22They realize this person has money and they will come back and pounce on the person.
09:25So one of the key to this is target hardening.
09:29So reduce the chance of them coming and succeeding when they come.
09:33And at the same time, don't make yourself a target by being too flashy,
09:38putting the necessary measures in place, the cameras, the high wall, lighting,
09:43and all these sort of things.
09:45Right?
09:46Right.
09:47That's a good point as we segue into the other topic here.
09:50Of course, I'm sure a lot of you would have passed through Port of Spain today.
09:56And the NCC would have launched a carnival in the streets of Port of Spain, especially on the promenade.
10:02And quite interestingly, of course, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service met with various stakeholders
10:10to strengthen their partnership for crime reduction and public order management in the Port of Spain area.
10:16It's dubbed Operative Festive Shield.
10:19You had Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Suzette Martin-Sylvania School,
10:23Commander for Christmas 2025 and Carnival 2026.
10:27She had a high-level meeting with several key stakeholders, including, of course,
10:32Mayor of Port of Spain, His Worship Alderman Chinua Allen, Senior Superintendent of Port of Spain Division,
10:38Mr. Raymond Tom, excuse me, Superintendent of the City Police, Mr. Glenn Charles,
10:43Station Commanders and Community Representatives.
10:46So the session basically focused on strengthening collaboration between the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
10:52and the Port of Spain City Corporation.
10:55Among the key issues discussed were, we just want to give you an idea,
10:58requests for increased police patrols and additional vehicles for the Woodbrook District,
11:02especially between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.,
11:05enhanced crowd and traffic management around Woodbrook, the Queen's Park, Savannah,
11:10and the wider Port of Spain area during major events,
11:12improved communication with the public regarding traffic divisions,
11:16sorry, diversions, alternative routes, and event information,
11:20addressing, sorry, illegal parking and safety concerns around Memorial Park,
11:25the Botanical Gardens, and the Queen's Park Savannah,
11:28boosting foot patrols in St. Clair and school patrols across the district,
11:33greater police visibility at the Arima Port of Spain taxi stand, particularly during late hours,
11:39strengthening intelligence-led operations to combat robberies, pickpocketing and other crimes,
11:44and lastly, continued emphasis on professional conduct among officers and adherence to the TTPS one-door policy.
11:52Excellent, excellent, excellent. All in keeping with keeping and having a safe 2026 carnival season
12:00and a build-up towards that because we know that it's not just the Monday and Tuesday,
12:05it's the lead-up all to it, and all of that is programs that the police service, with our partners,
12:12with our stakeholders, intend to implement to have a safe 2020, even safer than 2025.
12:18Yeah, and you know, one of the first ones I see that stands out is requests for increased police patrols
12:23and additional vehicles for the Woodbrook District, especially between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.,
12:28and we know that's a really busy area, especially around the weekends,
12:32a lot of people visit the avenue, and they park their vehicles along these side roadways,
12:36and a number of car thefts, a person's cars are broken in turn, and items are stolen,
12:42especially around those hours because, you know, they're unsuspecting, of course,
12:46you go and you park your vehicle, you think it's safe.
12:49Correct.
12:50And, you know, when you come back, the car's broken in turn, items are stolen,
12:54or you might never even see your car, or even worse, sometimes they steal your battery,
12:58and when you try to start your car, you realize, hey, wait, my battery's gone.
13:02It's gone.
13:03It's gone.
13:04Yeah, but you see, it's a phenomenon, and again, the police are there to mitigate it.
13:09We patrol those places.
13:11We're looking for the suspicious persons.
13:13Which persons, if they see persons, and they see something happening,
13:16it's always good to make some kind of alarm, call the police, as the case may be called.
13:21So, sometimes you might catch a thief in the act.
13:24It may not be actually, it may not have been able, you may have come upon him and he wasn't able to do it,
13:28and sometimes we might think nothing of it, and we may help our fellow citizens by just making a report.
13:34I see this suspicious guy, he's looking around my car, he's wearing this, this, this.
13:39I see him going to this vehicle, as the case may be.
13:41Yeah.
13:42So, we have to not just, not because it didn't happen to you, we have to be that proactive when we're dealing with those things.
13:47But the police will be there.
13:48I have been on many patrols in the Port Aspen district where we come upon persons interfering with vehicles,
13:54doing what they do, smashing the vehicles.
13:56But I also want to add to persons that do not leave valuables.
14:01You're going to Lime as much as possible.
14:04If you have a laptop, put it in the trunk of your car.
14:06Yeah.
14:07Because what you find these fellows doing is they come with a little light or a little phone light,
14:12and they peep if they see a pouch or something of any size, they will break your car and go inside of there.
14:16Right?
14:17So don't give them, don't give them reward.
14:19Yeah.
14:20Just by, just by not practicing a little proactivity.
14:22Just get that, remove it, put it in the trunk, any bag, any pouch, any knapsack,
14:27so that when they come, if they peep, it may not be of value to them.
14:31Because they hardly go to the trunk, they'll more go to the, like you said, they might go for a battery,
14:36or they may go for something valuable, something large to see in the passenger area of the vehicle.
14:41Right?
14:42So it's something, something we could look at as well.
14:44Yes, certainly.
14:45But the police will be there and will police.
14:47Around Christmas time and carnival time.
14:49Correct.
14:50You're always looking for a park, a space to park.
14:51Correct.
14:52If you're coming to shop or do anything, you're going to have fit and you might have to walk a little way
14:56if there's not enough parking, the parking is filled.
14:58Correct.
14:59By the time you get to the location, you're looking for a little side street.
15:02Correct.
15:03Of the oval, perhaps, of the Queen's Park, Savannah.
15:05Correct.
15:06So please be mindful of those things that ASP, Forbes, that have brought your attention.
15:10Don't leave valuables visible to persons on your dashboard or on your car seats and so on,
15:16because those are the things that will encourage these thieves to break your car.
15:21All right.
15:22So talking about thieves, of course, the police initially thought there was a report of a daring heist in the San Juan area on Monday around 8 a.m.
15:32A 42-year-old driver and a 20-year-old loader claimed, both employed by the car brewery in Chamfles,
15:38claimed that they were intercepted on Ramatali trees by armed men in a gold Nissan Almera.
15:44According to their account, the assailants forced them to unload their truck, which was filled with assorted alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages,
15:52onto other vehicles before abandoning them at separate locations.
15:57Now, what the police did, of course, was that they reviewed CCC TV footage in that area.
16:03And guess what?
16:04It turned out nothing of this sort had ever happened.
16:09Filing a false report, you ain't going to be in problems because now they have both been arrested for making a false report
16:16as they continue to investigate this matter.
16:18And not only that, they will be the suspect now in the last, any of the drinks as well.
16:23So they know it's double whammy.
16:25So besides the false report, they have to now account for the missing drinks as the case may be.
16:30Yes, indeed.
16:31I guess with Christmas coming up around the corner, persons are trying to concoct stories or claim that they are robbed.
16:37Correct, correct. And let them know that when they come to the police, the police will not take us taking a report and that will be enough.
16:44We will look into the report. We will exploit in every aspect.
16:48Again, we are looking to solve. We are looking to apprehend the particular culprits.
16:52So if we come upon it and you are not genuine in what you're doing, you're going to find yourself running afoul of the law.
16:59Yes, indeed.
17:00Whatever your reason.
17:01All right. It's Day 113 of the State of Emergency.
17:05Let's bring you up to speed with some of the figures.
17:09Number of operations, 8,152.
17:12Target priority offenders, 2,708.
17:15Searches conducted, 54,704.
17:18Traffic operations, 5,474.
17:20Total persons arrested, 3,627.
17:23Total persons charged, 2,215.
17:26Traffic operations detected, 32,299.
17:30Firearms recovered in total, 202.
17:32We had a rise in shotguns of 34.
17:35Ammunition recovered.
17:36We had a rise in 9mm of 1,335 rounds.
17:39137 rounds of 12 gauge and a rise in 5.56 of 512 rounds.
17:45A total of 2,576 rounds of ammunition.
17:49Dangerous drugs seized.
17:51Again, an uptick in the cannabis area.
17:53790,123.88 grams of cannabis.
17:57And of course, a rise in the cocaine area.
17:59They have 8,952.99 grams of cocaine.
18:04Yes, P?
18:06Well, again, particularly the report of the firearms is quite an alarming number.
18:12You've seen a lot of ammunition.
18:13You've seen a lot of heavy arms, a lot of weapons that we're seizing.
18:16And we can't do this job without the assistance of members of the public
18:21who are seeing something and saying something.
18:24And I want to encourage persons out there, whatever information you have,
18:27again, the police cannot do it alone.
18:29We need the assistance of members of the public.
18:31We need for you to reach out to our various ways of reporting,
18:34including 555, 800 tips, reaching out anonymously to our police station.
18:39Pass that information.
18:41We can't, I cannot implore you enough.
18:44I cannot implore the public out there.
18:46We need information to act upon.
18:49We are in a special time.
18:51The powers given to us by the emergency powers given under the SOE
18:55that we can go into spaces, deny the spaces to these individuals who continue to be lawless,
19:01who continue to possess a lot of weapons, a lot of dangerous wartime weapons,
19:07assault rifles, ammunition, and drugs even.
19:11Right?
19:12We want to get at these weapons, get at these individuals, arrest them.
19:15Put them behind bars and do what needs to be done.
19:18And we will keep on doing.
19:20We will keep on working within the armies that are given us.
19:23There has been an extension and we are there and we will give the necessary effort
19:28to make sure that that yields the kind of results that we continue to see in the statistics
19:33that we were able to give a short while ago.
19:36Alright, ASP, Forbes, thanks so much.
19:38We are going to take a quick look now at our headlines.
19:57So those are some of the headlines over the last 24 hours.
19:59We are going to take a short break and when we come back we will have more.

38:13No, there's some other persons not in school.
38:15There's a number of persons, part of that fracker, of course, and what we understand
38:21is that the first thing is, how did the parent got onto the compound?
38:29Of course, there will also be repercussions for this kind of behavior by the parent.
38:36It's one thing for the students to be fighting one another, but there's another thing for
38:41an adult, in an adult body, adult mind, to engage in this type of behavior.
38:47Of course, the offense of assault immediately jumps out at me, and there will be mitigating
38:53factors that as a student, as a school, all these things will go against that individual.
38:57This is totally unbecoming, because here we are trying to resolve this issue, and the
39:02example that the parents, whatever the situation is, this is no way to resolve any situation
39:08on a school compound.
39:09It just drives and feeds into the more chaotic situation that is at best with the school violence
39:16issue, because our parents are supposed to be level-headed.
39:18Even if you have a situation where your child is being bullied or being attacked, there's
39:22a course of action to take.
39:25You could make a report to the police station, let the police get involved.
39:28You could talk to the school administration, go as far as you need to, but that is totally
39:33unbecoming.
39:34Here we are trying to arrest the problem, and we have these parents in the middle doing
39:37all this, egging these people on, creating a bad example.
39:41This is totally uncalled for, but again, we don't know the exact circumstance of it, but it
39:46doesn't look good at all.
39:47But even if, as a parent, you're supposed to know better.
39:49Yes, correct.
39:50Attacking a minor, come on, even if that minor has wronged your student.
39:53On the school compound.
39:54On the school compound.
39:55If that minor has wronged your son or daughter, go to the principal, go to the relevant person
40:00school administration, and have a discussion.
40:02If you don't get satisfaction as an assault, go to the, come to the police.
40:05The police will intervene, and whatever needs to be done, whatever we need to do to get some
40:11kind of mitigation, if it's helpful to the students, the bully, whatever it is, we cannot,
40:16as a society, we cannot be this way anymore.
40:19Yeah, you're disappointing that a parent will do such a thing.
40:21You're not setting a better example for the young, because there are a lot of young ones
40:25that were actually witnessed that altercation there, allegedly, between a parent and a student.
40:30And I'm stating that, you know, he's going to be charged, as you said, with some kind
40:36of offense, if not already.
40:39But that is not the way to, you know, carry about yourself.
40:44Parents, please set a better example for your children out there while they're in school,
40:48so that they don't go there and do the wrong thing.
40:51And I was in Princess Tong today, and I have to heal a Princess Tong, and I went to do the
40:55voice of the people, very nice people, and I had a lot of good answers, and we talked
40:59about this, and they did say that parents have a very integral role in the development
41:04of their child at school, making sure that they do the right thing in and out of school.
41:10Correct, correct, correct.
41:11And I think we must herald the responsibility of parents.
41:18Now, all of us would have been secondary school students, and we know when we leave that
41:22door, when we leave the door and my parents send us on the school bus or send us to school
41:26and send us to work to school, we know we're representing our household, and we're not going
41:30to do anything to create or bring that kind of embarrassment or shame on us.
41:34And I want to tell you something as well.
41:37The police executive is zero tolerant to this type of behavior, whether it be from the parents,
41:43whether it be from the student.
41:44Some of the measures that we have taken by putting police officers in those spaces,
41:48it is hoped that we could identify and take the necessary action to bring it.
41:53Because this thing is becoming pretty much an epidemic.
41:56Yeah.
41:57Because every day you're seeing brawls, tool gears, things that you're not accustomed to.
42:02I mean, we're in the age of social media, and these things are being broadcast much more
42:06readily, but at the same time, the behavior is, you're going into an institution for education
42:13to get an education, yet you're brawling in the streets and that sort of thing.
42:17All right, we have another caller on the line.
42:19Caller, good evening, and welcome to be on the tape.
42:22Hi, good night.
42:24Good evening, ma'am.
42:25Good afternoon, sir.
42:26I have a problem.
42:31I have been listening to be on the tape and trying to follow suit with plenty of different
42:36things, listening, and this thing with this bullying thing in school, I have a very, very
42:43big problem with it.
42:45Because some of the children who are looking like they're defending themselves or they're
42:50spoiling, they're creating problems for schools, or we're seeing them different, we're seeing
42:55them.
43:02So we're seeing them, basically, you're seeing children fighting in school, and they come
43:07from way more than that.
43:08I think that some of them have problems at home.
43:11Some of them being bullied in school over and over and over.
43:15And they're retaliating because of, they have no other way of showing it.
43:24Or again, fed up of being bullied.
43:26Because I am living in Tobago, and I am telling you, my son has been bullied for a period of
43:31time, and now he's behaving different.
43:34Everybody wants to know why he's behaving different, and he changed, and all these things.
43:39But it is just a continuous bullying from first form onwards, and they just can't take it anymore.
43:47So I think that besides having a guidance counselor in school and all those things, they need some
43:52kind of intervention or some other way that these children, you know, can get some kind
44:00assistance.
44:01That's my contribution.
44:03Well, thanks so much for your nourishing comments there.
44:08And I know SP would agree to fully, you know, that she spoke about her son, and we really
44:14are sorry that your son had to go through that.
44:17And she spoke about his whole mental has changed.
44:20Correct.
44:20And I know that is something that will affect them even for a long time.
44:23Correct.
44:24Correct.
44:24Correct.
44:24And, again, the school itself is a social melting pot.
44:29It has varying levels of society as well, spectrums of society.
44:33Persons who are a little bit downtrodden, they may be having difficulties in their home.
44:37They may be abused in the home setting, and they lash out in that school environment.
44:42So the school of itself has a lot of issues within the space.
44:46Some person is going there to have an education.
44:48Some person is going there for relief.
44:49Some persons have challenges in their home space and then enter and enter that area.
44:53And then the teacher has to do the guidance.
44:56Sometimes they are overwhelmed.
44:57They are not able to identify.
44:58Sometimes they have given up on some of these students and that sort of thing.
45:01So we have all been in the system, and we know about the troubled students.
45:05We know about the person that will disrupt the class because they are not getting,
45:09they are not learning or they are not able to learn or take in what's going on.
45:12So they choose to lash out at it.
45:14So I think while we may have some resources available to us, the police, it is a holistic approach.
45:22It is the education system, guidance counselor, the third parties, anybody who could come into that space,
45:30mentor, talk to persons, get that kind of traction because we have young people,
45:36just young people going astray, going astray, being in bed for all sorts of deviant behavior.
45:42It's just not working out.
45:44And my heart goes out to that parent.
45:46Most certainly.
45:47All right.
45:47We're going to take a short break, and when we come back, we'll take some more of your calls.

48:45Welcome back to Be On The Tape.
48:55I'm your host, Mark Bassand.
48:56With me today is ESP Joel Forbes of the Southwestern Division.
49:02And ESP, you have another caller in line.
49:03Caller, good evening and welcome to Be On The Tape.
49:06Yes, good night, Mr Bassand and good night to the ESP.
49:09Good evening, sir.
49:10Good evening, sir.
49:12Okay, I have to ask you, please.
49:13Please, I would like the ESP, I don't know, Mr Bassand's address, but primarily, it's directed to the ESP.
49:21In terms of the, I saw the footage that you displayed just now, in terms of what transpired on the, it appears to be on the school compound.
49:30And I think we are not hearing anything about the security officers that are at every school.
49:40Everything is directed towards the police officers and willing to respond and responding untimely, but there are security guards posted.
49:49And I haven't seen anybody comment on it.
49:52And I haven't seen anybody address the issue because there are security officers there.
49:56And I believe that, you know, they're presented as the ESP and they're supposed to engage persons and protect the children who are there.
50:06To me, the police are the secondary kind of to respond thereafter.
50:10But the main priority of having security guards there is for them to protect the children, right?
50:17And I think we need to focus on that and they need to up their game instead of just, you know, relying strictly on the police.
50:24That's what.
50:24The second issue, and I've been hearing it bandied about, as far as home invasions, and I think the ESP may be able to address this, because there's no particular offense in terms of home invasions, right?
50:43We have to look at the larceny acts.
50:45We talked about housebreaking and larceny, burglary, and people breaking into the house and committing offenses, arrestable offenses therein.
50:53So, you know, so it's kind of, I know it's kind of prevalent and it's being talked about as a home invasion, but we need to bring it down to our legislation, which specifically provides housebreaking and burglary and committing offense when it is dead and people permissive.
51:13So, I think we need to really say what the law is and expand on that.
51:17Thanks again.
51:18Thanks a lot, call ESP.
51:20I know that that is a tool that we tend to use because it's broadly used in the United States.
51:25It's correct.
51:26I think a lot of people, some people have asked that already, but you go ahead.
51:31But he is correct.
51:32He is very much correct.
51:34There is, all legislation speaks about burglary or housebreaking and larceny.
51:40Burglary is going to be by night and committing an arrestable offense therein.
51:45And this really, really, it is, well, it is a burglary.
51:48But I think, again, social media and Americanizing of stuff, we use the term home invasion.
51:55But the law does cater for that, in fact.
51:57And he is quite right.
51:59The law does cater for it.
52:00And I think it is, you see, we live in a melting pot in the world.
52:08And a lot of these things, these terms just come and just settle themselves.
52:11And I am all, I stand here and I am guilty of it as well.
52:14But he is very much correct.
52:16The legislation, we do have existing legislation that can be used to focus on these types.
52:22And, in fact, if anybody goes in between a certain time, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the night, that is burglary.
52:29Burglary, yes.
52:30That is burglary.
52:31So that, in effect, and whatever they commit inside there, lasting or intend to do it, suffices as burglary as well.
52:37I have a question, though.
52:38Do you think that with the stand your ground legislation to be debated in Parliament before the years done, according to the Prime Minister,
52:45will we see a tweaking, perhaps, in the law to, you know, change the law to say that there is an offence,
52:54well, collectively, as part of the burglary and how it's lasting, termed home invasion?
53:00Is it feasible?
53:02I'm just asking.
53:02I do not know what the planners have in store.
53:05I do not know what the politicians have in store.
53:07I do not know what the policy or the drive of the policy is.
53:10Understood.
53:10I can only speak to what we have in existence in terms of legislation and how we respond within that legislative framework.
53:17I, again, Americanize.
53:21Stan Yagrong is akin to American in terms of responding with lethality to an intruder in within your space and that sort of thing.
53:28But I cannot speak to it.
53:30I dare not speak on behalf of the police service in regards to that policy or what the intention of the planners are.
53:36I dare not.
53:38Fair enough, fair enough.
53:39All right.
53:40Yes, we were talking earlier on about a seizure of two firearms in the Palo Seco area.
53:47Yes, of course.
53:47These suspects had planned to, of course, hijack a mini-mart in that area.
53:53And, of course, they ran off, may have thrown these homemade weapons into the bushes that were formed by the police officers.
54:00Quite sophisticated iron pipe there and so on.
54:04Well, let's not underestimate the capabilities of these things.
54:07They can discharge the said wrong that you see in there.
54:12Indeed.
54:12And they can't be lethal like any other, like any other weapon.
54:15Again, it may seem crude.
54:17Yeah.
54:17They will serve the purpose of inflicting that amount of fear to make a person compliant to commit a crime for the pursuance of an offense.
54:26So, do not just limit ourselves and, hey, these things are looking crude, the police way thing.
54:31Yeah.
54:32These are just as lethal as any other factory-made weapon.
54:35And, in fact, what I want to do is commend the community for recognizing what was going on here and reaching out to the police station because it's calling the station.
54:46Police respond in a timely manner, diligently search, and recover these items with a round of ammunition.
54:52Yeah.
54:52Kudos to the officers.
54:53There we have our last caller in line, ESP.
54:56Caller, good evening, and welcome to be on the tape.
54:57You're our last caller.
54:58So, can you be short a minute?
55:00Hello, yeah, Mr. Bassan, good evening to the officer.
55:06Good evening, sir.
55:06There was a big drop in the fatal accidents on the road since the raising price of alcohol.
55:13That is what it takes to decline fatal accidents on the road raising price again.
55:18And another thing is the SOE.
55:21The SOE should be extended for another year because there's less crime, there's less murders, and there's less law enforcement.
55:31Under the SOE, so, the murderers have been caught by almost half, and thanks a lot to this government.
55:38Bless him.
55:40All right.
55:41So, he's saying that the SOE should be extended for, I mean, six months again.
55:46Well, let's not get beside ourselves.
55:48He's saying, yeah, he's looking down another six months after this six months.
55:52I guess everybody's enticed to do the opinion.
55:54Fair enough, fair enough.
55:55I understand his enthusiasm.
55:57I understand his emphasis.
55:58But, again, all of this is governed under the Constitution.
56:01It's not a free hand that we just restrict our rights, as the case may be.
56:06So, it is all within the legislative framework that is given by Parliament.
56:10Again, the Parliament had to sit to get the extension, and I gather it will have to sit to get any further extension.
56:17I'm not quite certain of the particulars of it, but, again, it is within the framework.
56:21But he did raise something that was quite critical for us in terms of reduction in fatal road traffic accidents.
56:28We have had some decrease in it, the occurrences of it, and it's due to robust enforcement and policies and initiatives by the TTPS that would have created that level of traction, right?
56:40We have seen the carnage, the amount, the wanton death of persons because of various incidents, either speed, judgment, alcohol-induced accidents.
56:51And we have been actively focusing in high traffic time, weekends, focusing on many main arteries coming out of Maracas, coming out of the southwestern peninsula.
57:05We have been putting measures in place, DUI enforcement sources, anything, education as well.
57:12And we are putting these things and getting a lot of traction in terms of reducing that number.
57:16Because it may not be as visible as, let me say, the shootings and the murders, but it is at another level because we see some of these accidents, two, three individuals losing their lives.
57:30And because of speed, alcohol, poor judgment, and that sort of thing.
57:34I remember we were watching a video with Sunday evening sometime, I go with the fellow overtaker around the corner.
57:39Yes, yes.
57:40We're minimizing those things with presence on the road and strict enforcement.
57:44That is what the police is doing.
57:46That is what the TTPS is hoping to do and continuing to do, leading, going into the NR2000, this last quarter, 2025, and going into 2026, into the carnival season.
57:56Yes.
57:56So look out.
57:57Yes, P. Forbes, I really want to thank you for spending the last hour with us.
58:00And as we go, we want the employee to be safe on the nation's roadways, all right?
58:04Please, we don't want to hear about accidents during the weekend.
58:07And when we come here on Monday, we have to report or show carnage on the roadways, as well as safety, all across the board.
58:13And Princess Town, thanks for having us today.
58:15We really had a good time.
58:17And you will have really great people in Princess Town.
58:20Of course, remember, we run tonight at 11.30.
