03:40Welcome to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host Mark Basant. Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago.
03:55Of course, our international viewers and our brothers and sisters in the Isles of Grenada.
04:01We certainly hope that you had a good weekend and I know it was a trying one for some families.
04:07Of course, we had at least three confirmed homicides and a body that was found and yet to ascertain how that person would have died in the Gasparilla area.
04:17We had the shooting of Marvin Hamilton in the Moruga district.
04:22Of course, the nephew of Minister Michel Benjamin.
04:27We also had the killing of a retiree last night.
04:31His body was found after he was kidnapped on Saturday evening.
04:34Vishnu Lala. And then, of course, we had that shooting of Darina Dow, also known as Daribos, in the Tunapuna area also on Saturday night.
04:46So, clearly, you know, the gun violence continues to raise ugly head here in Trinidad and Tobago.
04:51Despite the fact that we're in a state of emergency, it is still the preferred choice of weapon for perpetuating homicides.
04:59Okay, today with us is none other than Captain Valens Ramarat from the Hunter, Search and Rescue team.
05:06And I know, sir, that you've had an extremely busy weekend and you're going to take us through it all.
05:11Yes, Mark.
05:12And, yeah, we completed, unfortunately, a not-too-good search last night, late last night.
05:22But thanks for the warm welcome and a pleasant good evening to our viewers and be on your tape and TV6.
05:30Mark, what we saw over the weekend, Saturday into Sunday, was an event that just took 27 hours.
05:39Normally, a kidnapping for ransom would last over a few days.
05:43But events unfolded quickly from Saturday night at around 6.30 p.m.
05:50Vishnu Lala of Windsor Park in California was forcefully abducted and taken in his vehicle and taken away in his vehicle.
06:05A couple of hours after the police were notified that his van was on fire, in another part of California, an area called Esperanza Village in California.
06:17Yes, the Toyota Hilux still.
06:18And this was the Toyota Hilux.
06:19Did you get to see the express next to Philip?
06:22By that time, the wife would have received, his wife, who he lived with alone, would have received a ransom call of $400,000 for his thief returned.
06:32And what happened is that we were contacted by the family and a search was mounted early Sunday morning to try to locate Vishnu.
06:44But during the day, the course of the day, a number of things took place.
06:48Well, I know just before we go to, I know on Sunday morning, I understand you told me when we had a conversation off here that they received a second call from the kidnappers around 9 o'clock.
06:58Right.
06:58Proof of life.
06:59Proof of life.
07:00Right.
07:01And that was to verify that Vishnu was still alive.
07:06And so one would imagine that negotiation.
07:08So the payment of the ransom would have been taking place overnight into early morning.
07:13So they were able to speak with him at 9.
07:16He complained about the amount of mosquitoes that were biting him.
07:21And by 12 o'clock, the ransom was paid.
07:25Not too far from where the vehicle was found.
07:28Right.
07:28And Mark, what we did together with the Trinidad Tobago Police Service and relatives and friends is that we mounted a thorough search in the area of Basta Hall in California, Esperanza Village in California, Windsor Park in California.
07:48We were seeking to, you know, traverse the area and these night searches are very, very difficult.
07:55The arduous, the dangerous, the dangerous, but we were able to move through areas quietly and to see if we could have picked up anything.
08:03And as you saw in the video, you know, normally we keep an eye out for camps and check old buildings and anything that is worth checking.
08:12And so we continued searching through the day into the night and at around 9.45 p.m., the body was found near Brecken Castle, not too far from where the vehicle was burned.
08:30And so it was a very tragedy, I would say, that unfolded for this family in the space of 27 hours.
08:40Yeah, indeed.
08:41Yeah, indeed.
08:42Well, I know that the police would have apprehended two suspects on Sunday evening around 4 o'clock.
08:49Yeah.
08:49And of course, about 9 o'clock or thereabouts last night, they would have recovered the body of Mr. Lala in a swampy area, hands tied behind his back, shot one steady head, execution style.
09:00And I'm just wondering, you know, this family went out of their way to pay that ransom that they so demanded, and yet still they executed Mr. Lala.
09:12And I have to wonder what manner of person does something like that.
09:16You ask for something, you are given the money.
09:18You are given it to it.
09:19And you still decide.
09:20His brother was saying they had tremendous difficulty raising $50,000, which was eventually paid to the hostage takers.
09:31And they had difficulty raising that, in fact, during the negotiations, it had come down to $40,000 plus some gold.
09:39But they were able to make the $50,000 and paid.
09:42Mark, this is, I believe, the third time for 2025 that we've had ransom paid.
09:47And persons who were still executed.
09:51And you're quite right.
09:52What manner of men would do this?
09:55It means that the persons who are perpetrating these crimes have no honor, no dignity, no care for anybody in the world.
10:02And they will easily take your life at a drop of a hat.
10:06So I want to extend condolences to his family.
10:11They interacted with us.
10:12Mark, it was not a good scene there at Breckencastle last night.
10:17His elder sister came, and she had to be consoled, his wife.
10:22And, you know, I want to extend all commiserations to the family.
10:26On behalf of yourself, be on the tape, and the TV6 family, and my family as well, and our team, to this family who, you know, really got the shock of the life.
10:36They never expected this to happen.
10:38And this occurred in areas that are relatively quiet.
10:41We never hear about Windsor Park, Bassler Hall, those areas, right?
10:46And, you know, quiet people, quiet community.
10:49Mr. Vishnu Lala was a farmer.
10:51And so he worked hard, 63, and was still working hard to maintain his household and his family.
10:58Yeah, and what we understand, you know, that of the two suspects, one of them happens to be a law enforcement person.
11:04So we'll see how that goes over the next 24 to 48 hours.
11:07Right, and that, let me say this, the detention of those two gentlemen would have pointed us in the direction of the Bassler Hall community.
11:18That was an area we didn't have in focus during the search, but once that occurred, it brought into our defined search area, Bassler Hall.
11:28We did spend quite some time in that area yesterday evening.
11:34I know you also just wanted to quickly bring us up to date with the mission with Raja Bishram.
11:39Yeah, Raja Bishram.
11:40Initially, well, what happened was that his wife had called and said he sent her a video and indicated to her that he was considering end of life.
11:52And we had to look at the video and he told her, you know, this is where he would be.
12:00And we looked at the video and said, Mark, and she told us that, you know, they had enjoyed going to Toko a lot.
12:08We looked at the video.
12:09We left our homes to go on Saturday to Toko.
12:13But while on the way, I would have received a call from the Blanchiches police station indicating that a gentleman bearing resemblance to Raja Bishram was found alive, but on the beach in Damien's Beach in Blanchiches.
12:32And so I quickly communicated that to his wife.
12:34She went to the Port of Spain General Hospital and he was in stable condition.
12:39So we did put him as found alive, only to receive the sad news today that Raja succumbed and unfortunately succumbed.
12:50So this is an update on the status with respect to Raja Bishram.
12:55Very unfortunate circumstances, but nevertheless, we extend our condolences to his family.
13:04Yes, certainly.
13:05Deepest sympathies to his family.
13:06Of course, the road carnage continues in Trinidad and Tobago.
13:11And as we, on Friday, we said, please, we are hoping that we wouldn't have to report or see any kind of stories involving road fatalities.
13:19But of course, at the St. Joseph Village area in San Fernando, there was a road fatality involving Mr. Arvin Williams.
13:28He died in a vehicular accident along the highway near the Corinth flyover.
13:32So, certainly a young man there and we often talk about speed.
13:36Yeah, we talk about this a lot.
13:39And you can see that car is totaled.
13:41It's a Hilux, a red Toyota Hilux.
13:44And Mark, the thing is, he was friends with two guys.
13:49He's 33 years old.
13:51He's friends with two guys who died at the exact spot in a black pickup.
13:56I recall that a couple months ago, yes?
13:59Well, it was in...
14:00Well, last year.
14:01Yeah, last year.
14:01Late last year.
14:02It was in August of 2024.
14:03Right.
14:04And those two boys, Sachin Tilakdari Singh and Ryan Ramnan, and we found them.
14:10Right.
14:10They went down to the river, correct?
14:11We found them in the river, right?
14:13So, fortunately, passers-by will allotate to the fact that Arvin would have...
14:19Vico would have gone there.
14:21So, you know, there was a quick response.
14:23This time, no need to search.
14:25Yeah.
14:25Mark, we talk about this all the time, and I always say to you, I have a 33-year-old son,
14:31and thank God, you know, he doesn't go to bars and that type of thing.
14:38But, you know, I...
14:39It's a crumpled mess.
14:40Look at that.
14:41It's just like an accordion, even.
14:43Right.
14:44Squished together.
14:45Squished together.
14:45And it speaks to, I guess, in some measure, we talk about speed.
14:49Yeah, speed.
14:50Because of that speed and that impact.
14:52For that metal to be retrieved in that state, speed is involved.
14:58I listened to his father, Winston Williams, a popular insurance executive from San Fernando,
15:05speed.
15:06He was at a loss for words, but he did ask parents, you know, to continue to talk to their children
15:11about being out late, consuming alcohol, speeding, you know, take care on the nation's roof.
15:18But let's listen to Arvin's father, who spoke with The Express over the weekend.
15:24So, Arvin's birthday is on Tuesday.
15:39He'll be 33 years soon.
15:42Yesterday when I got home and I asked him, he said he had gone up with some friends.
15:47So, I called him and he said, where were you?
15:50And he said, they were at the bowling alley in C3.
15:54And I said, so what time are you coming in?
15:56Because then we have classes on Saturday morning.
15:59So, he said, well, I'm probably getting around 11.
16:02And then around 11, he sent me another message.
16:05He said, look, I'm going to, I'm going to, what's the name of the place in, offsite?
16:14In South Park, because they're having a little surprise line for me, because of my birthday.
16:21And I said, I'll get him by about 1 or 1.30.
16:23So, I didn't respond.
16:26But I got up at 2 and he wasn't there.
16:28And I said, I called him.
16:31I called him.
16:32I WhatsApp him.
16:34I text him, everything.
16:36And no response, no response.
16:37And then I kept calling, calling, calling, nothing happened.
16:43And then around, of course, I'm up since, you know, 2, 3 o'clock.
16:48I called again around 6 and somebody answered the phone.
16:52And the guy identified himself as, I think it was Corporal of Consul, Cally.
16:58And I said, well, you know, what is this about?
17:02He said, are you Winston William?
17:05I said, yes.
17:06I said, and this is my son's phone.
17:08What are you calling about?
17:09And he said, I think you need to come down here.
17:12Come down where?
17:13He said, it's in Madeleine Station.
17:14And I said, for what?
17:16He said, I think you need to come and you need to come quickly.
17:20And come alone.
17:22And I said, come alone?
17:24But my wife and I jumped in the car and we went down.
17:26And when we got there, I went into the station and he said, have a seat.
17:32I didn't realize my wife had seen that across from the station, the vehicle was there and it was flat.
17:39It was probably a quarter of the size of a regular pickup from the ground.
17:44You know, if you go to the natural height of the roof.
17:47And I said, so where's the vehicle?
17:49Because I hadn't seen it.
17:51And he just pulled the curtain and he said, look out there.
17:56From the time I saw that, I know nobody could have survived that.
18:00So I said, so where is Alvin?
18:02He said, Alvin is in the walk in San Fernando.
18:07And, well, I didn't have a clue what next to say.
18:12You know, he was very nice.
18:15He said, look, take some time if you need to, catch yourself.
18:18He said, this is never easy to break the news to our parents.
18:23But we couldn't get to him and get the stuff that we needed.
18:30There's papers scattered all over the place.
18:33The vehicle rolled over.
18:34And he just didn't make it, you know.
18:39I have no idea if it was a matter of speed, if it was a matter that he fell asleep.
18:49I don't know.
18:50And I don't know that they could determine that.
18:53But if that's what they've determined, I will tell every parent, you know, you have to talk to your children about this.
19:00And I'll say another thing.
19:01Friends don't let friends drive drunk.
19:04If it was not a matter of speed, it was because he had too much to drink.
19:09Or if it is a matter that he fell asleep.
19:11Because I don't know how they can determine it was purely a matter of speed because he was a natural style of driving.
19:16Or was it speed because he fell asleep when you put your foot down on the accelerator, you know what I mean?
19:22I guess that is yet to be determined.
19:25To me right now, I really don't care which one it is.
19:27Because you've lost your child and no parent should bury a child, no, ever, you know.
19:32So, I just can't believe this has happened.
19:40And, you know, he said, look, there were four other guys in the prison at the time.
19:46And he stationed there who were charged for, I think, being a drunken driver.
19:51And I just wish he was one of them now, you know.
19:54But, it is God's will, it's not happened.
19:59So, I don't know what to say.
20:01I don't know what to do at this time.
20:04I miss him.
20:06I wish he was here.
20:08But, I don't know.
20:11I don't know what to say.
20:13But, this is tough.
20:16This is tough.
20:17This is very, very, very tough.
20:20On Tuesday, is the last time I spoke to him when I was going to bed.
20:23And when I got up to leave for work, he was still sleeping, you know.
20:28And that's the last time I saw him.
20:30And I don't know that I want to go and see him anymore.
20:32Because, I'm told, it doesn't look like him at all.
20:39So, parents, I mean, you see, he might be, he might not be a child at 33, but he's my child.
20:49So, parents, protect children, you know, and young people, if it is speed and that's what causes death, then slow down.
21:04You will get there.
21:05I had a friend who used to always tell me, he said, when there's traffic or when you're running late, take your time.
21:11You'll get there when you get there.
21:13You know, if you can't drive, call Uber, you call Rideshare, you know.
21:20They have these two days.
21:21You call me, any hour of the night, any hour of the day, I will find myself there, you know.
21:29So, I really don't know what happened.
21:31I spoke to a friend who he was hanging out with, and the friend said, yes, they had a drink or two, but he said nobody was drunk.
21:37Nobody, far, far, far from it.
21:40He had just dropped his friend home and was on his way home.
21:42When this happened, so they were shocked to find out this had happened, you know.
21:47So, I don't believe it was alcohol, you know.
21:51Somebody just told me, don't look at Facebook, people saying they were drunk.
21:54I mean, how people know that?
21:55I mean, people need to be a little more careful in their commentary, you know.
21:59Deepest sympathies to Mr. Williams on behalf of Beyond the Tape and the staff here and Captain Ramberat.
22:10It's truly, really, we were tenacious.
22:13You know, you showed tenacity there in speaking about your son and the kind of person he was and the incident, surrounding the incident.
22:21It took him a long time before he broke down.
22:23But certainly, as you said, it's not an easy thing for a parent to bury a child.
22:28Yeah, and I don't know how he gave that interview, but it was a very, you know, edifying interview.
22:34He covered all angles, and, you know, he spoke from his heart as a parent, you know.
22:39And he said, you know, no parent is supposed to bury their child.
22:43So, again, condolences to Mr. Williams.
22:47He's a very popular insurance executive in the South Trinidad area.
22:53All right, we're going to take a short break, and when we come back, we'll have more.
22:56Stay with us.
22:57Oh, hold on.

27:52Everything else remains the same.
27:54Yeah, Mark, and I'm looking at the figures for the cannabis, and I'm saying I'm not too sure if we will be heading for a record arm seizure this year.
28:04But I know a lot of work has been done, and a lot of seizures have been made, so I want to commend those officers to continue, commend them, and ask them to continue doing the good work there.
28:17The shotguns is still an issue for me.
28:19Why it is we have, you know, people with illegal shotguns out there and what they're doing with it.
28:26It is a concern for me.
28:28All right, so I know you have to bring us up to speed with the number of persons missing for the month of November thus far.
28:34Right, and Mark, when I was last year and I concluded the discussions for October, we had 15 persons still outstanding for October.
28:44I'm happy to report that during this past week we were able to assist and get that down to 10.
28:50So we were able to account for five additional persons in October.
28:55We still have 10 outstanding, so the team is still working on those 10.
29:00But for November this year we have had 10 reports of missing persons, and thus far we were able to account for eight, and we still have two outstanding.
29:15The two persons outstanding, we have Linda Bax from Parrylands, and our teammates were down there in Parrylands.
29:23She's been missing since the 1st of November.
29:26They were down there in Parrylands, you know, trying to find out what would have happened to Linda Bax, and the work continues this week to work with the family.
29:40She left a young son, and that is highly unusual.
29:46So Mark, I think when I come next Monday, hopefully we could say we've found Linda, but if not, we'll have to go into this case a bit more.
29:56So hopefully when our teammates continue to work on this Linda Bax who is missing, you know, I'll be able to update you all.
30:05And then we have Stacey, you know, sometimes I just have to say Auntie Stacey Eccles.
30:10Now, she's gone missing so many times.
30:14She, her mental health is compromised.
30:19She was seen in Arima District, so persons from Arima, please keep your eyes out for Stacey Eccles and just call 799-1453.
30:30Yes, she was spotted in Arima, but we were in Cuba, right?
30:35So we were unable to respond to that sighting.
30:38So we were asking you, just call the Arima Police Station or our team if you spot Stacey Eccles.
30:44All right, let's quickly take you to, of course, that disturbing homicide in Tunapuna.
30:51Darina Dowse, a social media influencer known by the name Dari Boss, playing cards when a gunman pulled up in a vehicle and opened fire in front of a bar.
31:03She was shot four times in the back.
31:06And, of course, her father and another relative rushed her to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
31:14Of course, police are still working on a motive for the sight killing, but you're not safe anyway in a public space.
31:21These gunmen, they pull up and you just open fire on persons that perhaps were also innocent bystanders.
31:29Yeah, you know, I'm just thinking here, Mark, you know, what a female could have done to be killed in that manner, a female among several males.
31:39Why was she targeted?
31:40But when I looked at the video and I looked at what transpired, I'm beginning to think now that this may be gang-related.
31:49And so, even though we've had a substantial drop in gang-related cases, this may be one that Reddit said recently.
32:00Yes.
32:01All right, we're going to take a short break, and when we come back, we'll have more.
32:05Stay with us.

35:11Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
35:21I'm your host, Mark Bassan, of course, joined today by Captain Valence Rambrath of the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
35:27And no doubt, Captain, you know, it's been a really trying time for a lot of families.
35:31And, you know, we had a very unfortunate incident involving Marvin Hamilton,
35:37who happens to be the nephew of Minister of Culture and Community Development,
35:43Michelle Benjamin, obviously was very shocked by this killing
35:47and would have posted on Facebook how hurt she was.
35:50And, you know, Marvin had gone out.
35:54His car broke down, very close to home.
35:56He decided to call roadside assistance.
35:58I think his wife and others were with him.
36:01They walked on a long home.
36:03His wife obviously said, you know, let's leave the car until later tomorrow.
36:08And then he'd come back.
36:09And then, of course, he said, I'll wait for the roadside assistance.
36:12And then that half an hour wait is where unknown men came to the car,
36:18tried to gain access to the car while he was inside.
36:20And then, of course, they were unsuccessful.
36:22So what happens, a resident said a single gunshot and Mr. Hamilton was later found by persons who rushed to the scene.
36:33Yeah, Mark, this is another example of a senseless killing.
36:37And the community of St. Mary's Village in Moruga is a close-knit community.
36:44And they reacted in shock and anger.
36:47Anger that, you know, the gentleman was not known to be involved in anything.
36:53He was a family man.
36:55And he had vehicular problems.
37:01And, you know, even though the wife suggested he stayed, he probably, you know, stayed.
37:05He wanted to get his vehicle repaired.
37:08And unfortunately, an incident occurred and he lost his life.
37:14But there is something to be learned from it, right?
37:17And that is, you know, sometimes roadside assistance may take a long while in coming.
37:23And probably he should have heeded his wife's advice, you know, to go home and wait it out until the morning
37:29and sort it out in the morning.
37:32But, you know, us men and our vehicles, we like to know that our vehicles are secured and in a good working order.
37:41But it's very unfortunate.
37:43Condolences go out to the family.
37:46Michelle Benjamin, the MP for Moruga, that is her uncle.
37:51And to all those lovely people in St. Mary's Village, who I know, condolences on our behalf, Mark.
37:59Yes, okay.
37:59Well, let's listen to Mr. Marvin Hamilton's wife.
38:03We spoke with the Express today, I believe, or yesterday, sorry, Natalie Valentine, that's the name.
38:11On that day in particular, as I said, he does pull little trips on the road afterwards to generate additional income.
38:21He did pull a trip, but the car break down St. Clement, full of passengers.
38:27And the passengers had to exit.
38:29And he called a friend from St. Mary's, who is also a relative, Jack.
38:36And he said, for me, Jack, come and touch the car, the car starts.
38:38You understand?
38:40And he said, you're not coming up the road.
38:42And I said, he keep working, don't forget which I mean.
38:45Because we left him there alone.
38:48If we was there, I don't think he would have died.
38:51And people saying that he died a hero because he sent us home and he protected us.
38:56But I tell him myself, if we were there, I wouldn't have come up here.
39:02But maybe they know what we did them all.
39:04And maybe they've got some of them to do.
39:06Because he's known all over here.
39:09So the persons who did this have to be between the age of, let me just say late, 25, 30s, early 30s.
39:17I've been honest with you.
39:17Because anybody over that age knows my husband.
39:20You'd have known where, through here, your past, through people don't know him.
39:23And ask anybody type of person he is.
39:25He don't meddle with nobody.
39:26Hey, how you going morning?
39:28Ha ha ha.
39:28Laugh and I said, I wouldn't get justice from Trinidad.
39:32Our justice system is a big figure.
39:36I would never get justice from that.
39:39But I, personally, will get justice from the Lord.
39:43I would leave justice for the Lord.
39:44I'm a praying soul.
39:46I am a praying soul.
39:48And I prayed last night and there was a power surge in the entire country at the exact moment that I prayed.
39:55And I wasn't aware, because the light dip when I said it.
39:58I was not aware of the power surge being in the entire country, as my brother brought it to my attention via social media.
40:07So I am a praying soul.
40:09I will get justice.
40:11They say what?
40:12You just never know how it feels until it hits home.
40:14What it hits home for me.
40:18But I will get justice from the Lord.
40:20I will pray every day.
40:23And I will get justice from the Lord.
40:24Yes, so the wife of Marvin Hamilton, of course, the uncle of the minister, Benjamin, there, you know, and she's saying she will get her justice.
40:36She's not going to wait and demand me justice, but from above.
40:40Well, let's hope the police officers get to the perpetrators.
40:44I think they're from the area, and I agree with her that the young people trigger happy, and they really handled the situation badly.
40:54And whatever they did wasn't something that is acceptable, and we should really raise our hands and say this must stop in our country.
41:09He's a villager.
41:11He lives right there.
41:13He lives a quiet life.
41:14There's no reason to interfere with him.
41:16Yeah.
41:17All right, we're going to take a short break, and when we come back, we'll have more and take some of your calls.
41:21Stay with us.
41:22All right, guys, today we're going to start a new topic, and that topic is entitled...
41:26There is no way I could teach in all that noise, and there is definitely no way we children could learn in that noise of violence.
41:48They deserve more.
41:49That fear, that anxiety.
41:51See, we have to have our classrooms filled with joy, laughter, and hope, not fear.
41:59That is why I support the TCPS School-Orienting Policing Initiative.
42:04This is not just about law enforcement.
42:08It's about building trust.
42:11Parents, teachers, students, and officers all coming together to provide a safe space where young minds can flourish.
42:21If we all stand side by side, we can protect our children, keep them safe, and they can have a space to learn without anxiety and fear.
42:34I am ready to partner with the TCPS in fostering safe, respectful, and empowered schools across Trinidad and Tobago.
42:45It's not a simple task.
42:47We need parents, students, teachers, and communities to get involved.
42:54It's time to get on board.
42:57Securing our schools.
42:59Securing our future.
43:00At Cruise-In Hotel and Yachting Center, we're all about time.
43:08In fact, once you check in, there's no time to lose.

44:15Venture Credit Union.
44:18It's the place you should be for financial stability.
44:22Oh, oh, oh.
44:22Let's venture together.
44:24Let's venture together.
44:26Let's venture together.
44:28Venture Credit Union.
44:29We offer all types of loans.
44:31Find your dream when you can venture.
44:34Using it for more than five years.
44:37And if I did not think it was adequate, I would not have recommended it to my daughter.
44:42She has been complaining about little bits of pains.
44:44And I tell her, say, look, try the Omega XL.
44:47And it has been working for her, which I'm really, very glad about.
44:51Still using wipes?
44:52Drop it.
44:53Switch to Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water.
44:55Micells remove makeup like a magnet.
44:57In just one step, no harsh rubbing.
44:59Removes waterproof mascara better than the leading wipe.
45:01From the number one Micellar brand in America.
45:04By Garnier.
45:05Naturally.
45:06Ending violence against women is a community's duty.
45:09When we dismiss private family matters or joke about jealousy, we enable a culture of abuse.
45:15True change starts by challenging harmful attitudes, teaching our sons about respect,
45:20and supporting our daughters to be strong.
45:22Let's build a Trinidad and Tobago, where every woman is safe and valued.
45:26Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
45:47I'm your host, Mark Busson.
45:48And, of course, joined today by Captain Valence Rambarat of the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
45:52Remember the numbers to call.
45:54623-1711.
45:56Extensions 1996 and 1997.
46:00And we have a couple of other road traffic accidents that would have occurred over the weekend.
46:05There was one first in the Santa Cruz area here, a vehicle, a few vehicles, seeing some persons that seem to have been injured,
46:16being taken out there.
46:18It's a truck, a car, oh my.
46:20Yes.
46:20Some serious injuries there to that individual.
46:24Well, so it reminds us, a stark reminder of being safe on the nation's roadways.
46:32It appeared, from what I'm seeing, that there have been some kind of head-on.
46:38This was in the vicinity of Omera along the highway.
46:43A Nissan motor car there, appearing to have lost control.
46:48It was smashed, perhaps, into that concrete culvert there.
46:54And we are seeing persons that were injured were taken out of the vehicles, of course, and taken for medical care.
47:05We have to emphasize, you need to be more observant on the nation's roadways.
47:11You need to exercise caution.
47:14You need to slow down.
47:15Then there was this, near the president's, or the, near the zoo, sorry, Emperor Valley Zoo,
47:22their vehicle on fire.
47:24And we've been seeing this quite often over the last couple of months, vehicles catching a fire and so on,
47:31for obvious reasons.
47:32But I'm hopeful that the occupant or occupants of that vehicle would have obviously gotten out of the vehicle
47:39before it caught a fire.
47:42And I know it did, because the Emperor Valley Zoo, the US statement, that its entrance was blocked.
47:50But I think there was another one over the weekend with a Hilux that was on fire somewhere in West Trinidad.
47:57But, you know, we continue to talk about the pattern, which starts Friday evening, into the weekend.
48:03Yes.
48:04And on social media this weekend, I think I would have seen anything like about 10 to 12 accidents being showcased on social media.
48:12So we're seeing the trend continues, and we're seeing that it involves death, it involves serious injury,
48:19and it involves, you know, a number of vehicles involved in one particular scenario.
48:26So we have to keep our eyes out and, you know, ask people to be cautious on the nation's roads,
48:32be careful, drive with others in mind, and make sure that, you know, you preserve your life while you're on the nation's roads.
48:41Yes, indeed.
48:43All right, we have our first caller on the line.
48:45Caller, good evening, and welcome to be on the tape.
48:47You're live.
48:48Blessings to you, Mark.
48:49I'm Sarah.
48:50I'm Sarah.
48:50Oh, I'm really concerned.
48:52It's sad to see how young drivers get killed on the road.
48:57Simple, simple thing like a house party.
49:00When he parties, and your friend, your so-called friend, can begin to drink.
49:05I'm not saying, in that case, the guy was drinking, or he was feeding.
49:10What I'm saying is, your friend was carrying, and they're bringing him back.
49:13And it was in these young drivers, take one, and get one, and fire one, and when they say no, this is our child.
49:22But fire one again, they're encouraging the drivers to drink.
49:27That is wrong.
49:28It's time to pass a lot.
49:29It's time to charge a friend on them now.
49:31Thanks a lot.
49:31Thanks a lot, Caller.
49:35You certainly echo the sentiments of persons encouraging their friends to consume alcohol above the limit of times.
49:45And as Mr. Williams would have pointed out, we don't know what really happened in the incident concerning his son.
49:51Of course, speed could have been a factor.
49:53That tiredness could have been a factor where you nod off and your foot mashes the X.
49:58Or, you know, he says, the friends that he spoke with, there was no indication that they had anything close to being intoxicated.
50:08As I said, it's their word.
50:12We have to take their word there.
50:14But there's always a number of factors you have to consider when accidents take place in the nation's roadways.
50:20And, you know, they're young, so they must enjoy life at that stage.
50:25Because after that stage, life becomes complicated.
50:28And time for family and work and building house and stuff.
50:32But what happens is that there are options now.
50:35When we were younger, Mark, we didn't have, there were not options.
50:39And Winston Williams pointed out there, things like Uber and, you know, ride share.
50:46And you could pack your vehicle up.
50:47You know, you could also go out.
50:50You could pack your vehicle up and take a ride home.
50:53Call one of these vehicles to take you home.
50:55And then you also have friends.
50:58You know, bring in a friend who doesn't drink on the lime.
51:01And they could enjoy themselves.
51:04And they are the designated driver.
51:06So there are options now.
51:09And as Winston said, you know, I'm your father.
51:12Call me.
51:12I'll come for you.
51:13Yeah.
51:13Yeah?
51:14I'll come for you.
51:15You'll answer at any hour of the night or morning, as the case may be.
51:18Yeah.
51:18And, you know, it's always better safe than sorry if you know that, you know, you have
51:23had enough to drink.
51:24Yeah.
51:24There's ride share as well.
51:25You can make a call.
51:26Yeah.
51:27And they will pick you up.
51:28You leave your vehicle if it's in a secured location.
51:30Yeah.
51:31So that, you know, you don't have an issue and you go back for it.
51:34The next day feeling, you know, secure that you got home safely and without any kind of
51:40mishap.
51:40And some of these places do offer you the option of paying to get home and they will
51:46have someone drive you home.
51:48Yes, certainly.
51:49So, you know, just remember, you know, it's important that we all play our part on the
51:53nation's roadways.
51:55And, of course, if you think that your friend has had one too many, don't hesitate to tell
52:01them, you know, that's it.
52:03So either that or I'm going to call you a ride share or get somebody to come and pick
52:08you.
52:08Yeah.
52:09I agree with you totally.
52:10All right.
52:12So we have some videos, I think, of an outreach career day in Gandhi Memorial.
52:18Yeah, Mark.
52:19And we continue to take a proactive approach to speaking with our students in schools with
52:26respect to safety in the environment.
52:29And here it is.
52:30We are at Gandhi Memorial Primary School in Aranguez.
52:36And they're always excited to interact with us and, you know, to learn from us.
52:41And we take joy in teaching them.
52:43And, you know, that's a raincoat, how to prepare themselves for disaster.
52:47And here is Senator Professor Prakash Pasadi, Minister of Territory Education, you know.
52:54He was there to open the career day together with the principal, Mr. Gangu.
52:58And, you know, it was a really enjoyable day.
53:01So I want to say to those who are listening, apart from searching for missing persons, we
53:08do wildlife rescues and we do outreach programs to schools.
53:13So if you need us, you know, you just call 799-1453, WhatsApp us, call us.
53:19And once we have the time, we will come visit your school and, you know, share all the experience
53:25and information we have with your students.
53:28Because this teaching and learning process, you don't know when a child could be inspired.
53:34And, you know, children growing up today, it's a difficult world we live in.
53:41And the practice of goods safety measures is always important.
53:46Yes, certainly.
53:48All right, we have another caller on the line.
53:49Caller, good evening.
53:50You're the last caller.
53:51Welcome to be on the tape.
53:53Good evening.
53:54One of the things that I think is overlooked, these recap tires from trucks are left in
54:04the middle of the highway.
54:06And if one is not cautious, you can lose control very easily.
54:15Thank you so much, Caller, for that poignant observation there.
54:20And I have to say I agree with him.
54:22Many a times I'm heading south and I'm seeing a lot of truck tires busted up in the middle
54:29of the lanes and you have to veer carefully across the either lane to avoid it.
54:33Because it is very big, it's bulky, the steel is all over the place.
54:39It poses a danger to motorists.
54:42Again, Mark, I see it a lot and the caller is right.
54:46It does pose a risk.
54:47And, you know, this recap in plants, I'm not too sure how many are in operations, but I
54:54think, you know, the time has come for us to move away from that.
54:59And, you know, let's get into using new tires on our trucks and vans so that, you know, you
55:08wouldn't have these mishaps.
55:10We see it a lot on our roadways.
55:13Yeah, I concur because a funny story, I bought tires, brand new tires about a month ago and
55:19at the tire shop, a gentleman drives in, he drives in with a brand new SUV.
55:23Yeah.
55:24But he's asking for the cheapest tires.
55:26Yes, you can't do that because the cheapest tires are going to put your life in danger.
55:31So, you know, use good tires and they last longer and they're durable.
55:37And not only that, they have additional built-in safety measures.
55:41The sidewalls, they're very strong.
55:44They take a lot of pressure.
55:46And, you know, so don't run down cheap tires.
55:53Buy good tires.
55:54They're available on the market.
55:56Don't compromise your safety.
55:58Yeah, you know, sometimes it might be easy to see if you don't have the cash.
56:02But I think over a period of time, if you set yourself a goal, you know, your tires last
56:07X amount of time, you can then save, you know, an increment so that you get proper tires to
56:14drive on your, to use on your vehicle when the ones that you have are worn out.
56:18Because you certainly don't want to be driving on worn out tires.
56:21Exactly.
56:22And we see, you know, the proliferation of accidents and incidents involving vehicles.
56:30So do the right thing and, you know, purchase good tires and make sure you maintain your tires,
56:34air pressure and everything that goes with it.
56:37Yes, certainly.
56:38Well, we have about 30 seconds.
56:39Is there anything you want to add before we close the show, Captain?
56:43I know we're entering into a season, the Christmas season, and I just want to ask people to be
56:48careful out there, not only on a nation's road while driving, but also, you know, with
56:55respect to crime and pickpocketers and everything, secure your property.
57:00And be careful as you go about your business.
57:05This time is a time we see a number of young people losing their lives on accidents.
57:11We want that to be reduced and we want you to be safe to go into 2026.
57:17All right.
57:18Captain, thanks so much for joining us over the last hour.
57:21Remember, repeat tonight at 11.30, two repeats tomorrow at 11 and 2 o'clock.

58:36ALTA is a nice place to learn.
58:38Like if any student in this program made a mistake or the other students will turn and
58:44help out the best students.
58:46The teachers are very wonderful, which is one thing I love.
58:49The next thing I love about it is free.
58:51You can't study what a person is making, the perception of a person.
58:55You have to focus on what you want.
58:57I am enjoying every moment in ALTA.
