03:39A message from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
03:43Welcome to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host, Mark Besson.
03:57Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago and our international viewers.
04:02And not to forget our brothers and sisters in the Isle of Grenada.
04:07Certainly it was a really sad morning.
04:10Some really sad news coming to hand very early this morning.
04:14The body of Candice Honoré had been missing since July 1st.
04:20We had indeed profiled her on this program and highlighted her through the Hunter Search and Rescue Team
04:29who apparently made the discovery of Ms. Honoré in a pond,
04:35body dismembered, found in a suitcase wrapped in plastic or body parts.
04:44Very disturbing, of course.
04:46And, you know, certainly it's not the best news to wake up to anybody in the public out there.
04:52You know, that's someone's daughter, sister, you know, even auntie, as the case may be.
05:01And, of course, the police were called to the scene quickly thereafter
05:04by Hunter Search and Rescue, Captain Valance Rambarat and his team.
05:11And also, we want to continue to, obviously, ask for the release of 44-year-old Sati Karim,
05:21kidnapped last Sunday just outside her Bassey Street home in Valsain.
05:27The vehicle was later stolen with her in it and then it was abandoned
05:33and those kidnappers took her into another vehicle and escaped.
05:39And we are imploring anybody with information to please reach out to the nearest police station,
05:45800-TIPS even, or 999, even contact the Hunter Search and Rescue Team
05:51who work very closely with the police if you have any information about the whereabouts of Ms. Karim.
05:57And it's Thursday, and today with us, none other than ESP Ishmael Pitt.
06:02Welcome, sir. How are you? Looking rather spiffy today.
06:05I'm trying to think, being guided by your parents.
06:09Thank you, Mark. I mean, it's a dark day considering what was done early this morning.
06:19You know, condolences to the family of the deceased.
06:22I can tell you at this point in time, we have a large contingent of officers
06:26who are trying to bring justice to the family, to the community, to the society
06:32where this incident is concerned.
06:35I can recall just last week, someone called the program and, you know,
06:40that person mentioned certain things regarding the relationships,
06:46women to men, and, you know, how society views women.
06:51And one of the issues that came out of the discussion,
06:56and I can see the discussion with us because it was just a caller who made some remarks,
07:01is that things like this and viewpoints like those impact even domestic violence issues.
07:08Now, this is still very premature in terms of the investigation.
07:16It's still within its end, right, stage.
07:19But the fact of the matter is, generally speaking,
07:24we know that there are a lot of issues regarding relationships and how men view relationships,
07:29how women view relationships.
07:30And we will always reach out to the public and inform women, inform men as well,
07:37that there are avenues that you can go in order to seek counseling,
07:43in order to get redress if that is your course,
07:46in order to get some type of help, some type of intervention.
07:49And it is not to take matters within your own hands and decide to resort to these drastic sort of measures
07:58in order to feel some sense of satisfaction, some sense of accomplishment,
08:03or, you know, some sense of justice, if you would want to call it that.
08:06So we will continue to appeal to members of the public, our women and our men as well,
08:11because we cannot be limited.
08:14We are, as an organization, we have gone beyond that position of being gender biased.
08:20So, holistically speaking, there is support,
08:23and we are asking persons to tap on these means in order that, you know, you get that type of support.
08:28Yeah, certainly, you know, as you say, you know, crimes of passion,
08:32if this happens to be one, you know, it has those indicators we often see.
08:37And then we later learn that, you know, as you said, some kind of domestic dispute,
08:42some falling out of, you know, between the individuals that may have triggered,
08:47not just in this instance, but in other instances.
08:50And I think on social media, it's already been, you know, banded about that it perhaps was something
08:56related to that domestic matter.
08:58But, of course, we wait until the official information from the police.
09:04But we do want to hear from Captain Valence Rambarat, who made the discovery along with his team.
09:11Let's take a listen in.
09:13We have sad news this morning in Valencia.
09:17A really horrific discovery by Hunter's search and rescue team.
09:22We were searching for Candice Honoré, 22-year-old, who was missing from the Santigrande district
09:30since the 1st of July, 2025.
09:34We arrived in Valencia this morning at about 6 a.m.
09:39And we proceeded to begin the search.
09:43And at about 6.30 a.m., we spotted a suitcase in a pond.
09:49We called the police, and they came, and they supervised us as we opened the suitcase.
09:58And inside of that suitcase, really, was what appears to be chopped up human remains in plastic bags.
10:05And so the police were here.
10:09They mobilized everybody.
10:12It seems as if it's a homicide.
10:13And, you know, the identification process will take place afterwards.
10:20But really and truly, it is our most horrific and grisly discovery since we started this team five years ago.
10:29So, you know, I know that, you know, it's a very difficult job that the Hunter's search and rescue team do, you know.
10:38Sometimes it ends happily.
10:39And, of course, there are other times when it ends so tragic.
10:43And he pointing out, you know, in all his years doing this really grisly discovery.
10:50Yes, indeed.
10:51Well, I can say that as police officers, we endure a similar fate.
10:57There are so many discoveries that we have made that are quite gruesome.
11:04And you wonder at times whether everyone who appears to be in human form are, in fact, human beings.
11:11You know, so that is how dreadful those discoveries are.
11:15And it's traumatic, and for that reason, we would even recommend that his team as well, you know, that you get that type of counseling.
11:23Yes.
11:24Because the trauma is so tremendous that at times it impacts your private life.
11:31And you may think that you are okay, but really and truly you are being affected by what you have seen.
11:37Yeah, and none more so than the trauma that family members and relatives and friends would suffer.
11:45And, of course, we have a video with Candace's father on the scene.
11:50Let's take a listen.
11:51I don't know what I mean, because I'm a child, you know what I mean?
11:55But really, the better side of me was like, I don't watch me.
12:00This could never be happening then.
12:03Well, I don't know about it, July the first part, because I don't really check the day on the date.
12:07But what I could say, not this Monday here.
12:10The Monday before was the Tuesday after that Monday.
12:13Right, and then I only heard about it Friday evening.
12:19Right, none of the sisters or the brother told me anything until Friday when they realized,
12:26okay, if these days pass by six.
12:28No, none of my children lives with me.
12:31They live with the mom.
12:32We had me little dispute, whoever.
12:35I live away from them, but I'm always in connection with them.
12:39And the person, they work and look for them, talk with them, go along,
12:43associate, everything cool.
12:45But for it to reach this distance with Candace there right now,
12:50this wasn't really accepting to me from day one.
12:54I wasn't seeing.
12:55Exactly, because all how I thinking about it in other ways,
12:59besides how it turned out as a father, you know?
13:02So, I just want to tell all parents, all they follow up on all the children,
13:08especially female boys as well,
13:10because all they don't know what's going on.
13:12All they can never know all what's going on.
13:14Right, because you see this thing we have in our hands and touching and securing our phone,
13:19the internet, this is what looks in me right now.
13:23This is our power they have in their hands and they know how to use the power.
13:27We the parents wouldn't see the power they're using and how they're using it,
13:29but it is what it is.
13:31The thing about it is, you're going to like to post a nice pity.
13:35Just normal and send it out with a friend or whoever,
13:38somebody else who was in the pity at some point in time,
13:41might see it and they might be jealous, don't mind,
13:44or they might still be communicating.
13:45You don't know and from the, you know, you don't know how people's mindset is.
13:49So, what we doing on this publicity, what we doing out here,
13:53we have to be aware of everything that's going on.
13:55It don't go on, we don't have no control over it, too late.
13:58I mean, in general, this thing, this thing, intolerable for we,
14:03the human species right now and this power that we're talking about.
14:08Father Spain, and he raises a very salient point there about social media.
14:13Of course.
14:14And, you know, the Homeland Security, Mr. Alexander, Minister,
14:18spoke about that just briefly at the postcard,
14:22which is still going on about, you know, the safety and the dangers of social media
14:26and how women conduct themselves.
14:28And when you post pictures, you have people that you once had a relationship with,
14:34you know, and they're seeing you happy and they're very unhappy that you are happy.
14:39Yes.
14:40And they might do things to obviously, you know, harm you.
14:43Yeah.
14:44And, you know, he's hitting the nail on the head.
14:47Social media has brought us so many benefits,
14:50but it has also brought us so many ills.
14:54And it's an area of our life that we need to manage and we need to manage appropriately.
14:59A lot of things have gone viral and it has contributed to persons now becoming targets.
15:05Yes.
15:06And it's not only related to issues of this nature.
15:09We have seen robberies.
15:11We have seen kidnappings that have occurred.
15:14Persons being tricked into going from one point to the next, all based on social media.
15:19And there are a lot of advertisements that obviously is paid for by the TTPS regarding persons
15:29and how dangerous social media can be if you don't really look carefully as to what you are posting.
15:37So, there's this one in particular where this young lady, you know, this guy is asking her some questions
15:45and then she went ahead and she posted something because she was, like, she ducked him.
15:49She ducked him in local parents.
15:51She ducked him, right?
15:53Yes.
15:53And then he's, like, she posted the picture.
15:58And he was able to see the picture.
15:59That's right.
16:00Or at the park.
16:01Or at the park.
16:01And he was able to see the picture.
16:03And then he went along to find her.
16:04Yes.
16:05And she's, like, who's you?
16:07Yeah.
16:07She didn't even know who he was.
16:08Yeah.
16:09But this guy is able to see exactly what she's doing.
16:12You know what I'm saying?
16:13Who's you?
16:14And he's telling her he's Larry.
16:15Larry, the fellow who was sending her messages previously.
16:18So we are asking persons to take the messages, take the messages and apply it to our lives,
16:26understand the value of it, because continuously we are coming here weekly.
16:32And there are so many other programs that continue to educate the public,
16:38edify members of the public regarding the ills of social media.
16:42Again, it's a wonderful tool.
16:43It's very convenient.
16:44We have the opportunity to become famous.
16:49And there are persons who, based on social media as well, they have become infamous.
16:53So we ought to be very, very careful, manage it appropriately, understand the dangers,
16:59understand the ramifications.
17:00And, you know, for that, we should be better off.
17:03Yes, I agree 100%.
17:05All right.
17:06Let's take a quick look now at our headlines.
17:07So those are your headlines over the last 24 hours.
17:33We're going to take a short break.
17:35And when we get back, we'll take some of your calls.
17:36Stay with us.
17:37OK.
17:38I see you.
17:55OK.
17:55Let me see you.
17:57Yeah.
17:57Now take it back.
17:58Let me see you.
17:59Rock off.
18:00Rock off.
18:01Shake off.
18:02Shake off.
18:02Let me see you.
18:03Rock off.
18:03Rock off.
18:04Let me see you.
18:04Kick right.
18:05Now kick left.
18:06Now step forward, now step back.
18:08Lucozade, bring the energy.
18:10Crack the science of stronger hair.
18:12New Fructis, with keratin, protein, or biotin in reloaded systems.
18:17Up to 72 hours fresh control, 48 hours definition, or 72 hours thicker looking hair.
18:23New Fructis, by Garnier, naturally.
18:36That's huge.
18:54That is a big hit, it's out of here.
19:06The Royals, they defeat the Trimbingo Knight Riders.
19:20On target.
19:24This is another wicket.
19:25They say sheep don't make goat, but not all sheep make the same way.
19:37You've made your child, yes, but the two of you are not the same.
19:43Don't expect your child to think and feel the same way you do about everything.
19:49They have their own unique personality and strengths and challenges.
19:53So be open-minded and learn to understand and appreciate the differences between you all.
20:00You see, understanding them will help you be a better parent to them
20:04and help them be the best version of themselves that they can be.
20:09You are one of a kind and so is your child.
20:13At the end of the day, keep trying your best.
20:16You and your child deserve it.

20:25The letter of the day is you for understanding.
20:29Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
20:43I'm your host, Mark Bassan, joined today by ASP Ishma, part of the Northern Division.
20:47And, you know, we talk about firearms, you know, illegal firearms on the streets of Trinidad and Tobago.
20:56And we have to commend the police for some good work.
21:00In the Western Division, early morning, they went to a, I believe it's a house where no one was inside, of course,
21:10in the upper quarry street area in Dago Martin.
21:13And whilst there, they located a black firearm fitted with a magazine containing six rungs of nine millimeter ammunition.
21:24And the items were seized and taken to the St. James Police Station.
21:28And, of course, in the Southwestern Division, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
21:33And yesterday's date, officers from the Point 14 CID, Point 14 Charge Room, and Canine Unit acted on information,
21:41received and proceeded to a bushy area of Pangola Street, Point 40.
21:46During an extensive search, officers discovered one black and silver pistol fitted with a magazine containing one round of 38 ammunition.
21:54A weapon was found in a black and white bag.
21:57So two illicit firearms off the streets.
22:00Yes, indeed.
22:00Two less.
22:01Indeed, two less.
22:02And I know that there are a lot of persons who, as much as they appreciate the fines, you know,
22:10they sometimes question our ability to hold people accountable.
22:14So we know we have been finding firearms at different locations, and it's no secret that at times we don't get persons in actual possession.
22:27Yes.
22:27But we have been able, Mark, and I'm saying this, we have been able to, through science, through technology,
22:35we have been able to hold persons to account for firearms, notwithstanding they were found outside of persons' immediate control.
22:44So for those who think that I'm hiding the firearm in the fake patch, and I'm sending it down in the dashing patch,
22:51and I'm leaving it in the abandoned house, because the place hot and, you know, police,
22:56the likelihood of police coming to search your house is very, very high.
22:59So for those who feel comforted in doing those things,
23:03and believe that even if the firearm is found that they are not going to be held accountable,
23:08well, then they have another thing coming.
23:09Yeah, certainly.
23:12Well, I know this is a new segment we're going to introduce here with you.
23:17It's called the update segment.
23:18Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes.
23:19Go to you by ASP.
23:20Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
23:21I know you have a couple of things you want to clear the air on.
23:24For all those callers who have called on information or things that they needed to resolve in some measure, take it away.
23:31Of course, and folks, we really do appreciate the calls and the information, you know.
23:37We have boasted and we continue to boast that we have been providing so many means by which persons can advance their information.
23:45So last week, we had a call regarding an accident.
23:51The accident took place some time ago.
23:53I think it was in March.
23:54Yes.
23:54And we did, in fact, communicate with that gentleman.
23:59However, we lost communication along the way.
24:02His wife called the program.
24:04And, you know, we, again, were able to communicate directly.
24:08So the situation with him is one where now it's in the hands of the insurance company.
24:16And he is experiencing some issues.
24:19It's beyond policing at this point in time.
24:22However, based on our networking ability, we are still trying to see how best we can assist him in this regard.
24:27Right, because, you know, he's the owner of a taxi.
24:32The taxi was involved in the accident.
24:34And it's his sole source of income.
24:37And for that reason, it's important for him to have that vehicle up and running within the shortest possible time.
24:42There was another person who had called from Tobago.
24:45And he mentioned the issue of not being able at this point in time.
24:49He was a former police officer.
24:50He is a former police officer.
24:51Not being able to get his pension at this point in time.
24:55And, you know, that in itself is something that it has been plaguing a lot of our former officers.
25:00And it is something that we are confident that our commissioner will be able to address.
25:06You know, he did indicate that it is an area that he's looking at robustly.
25:10And he has already started in terms of trying to clear whatever backlog so that it goes to wherever it has to go
25:16in order that persons are paid within the shortest possible time.
25:20And that they experience their just dues.
25:22Right?
25:22So, sir, I know we spoke.
25:23I know that you spoke to my clerk as well.
25:25And I know you are yet to receive a call from the administration branch.
25:30But rest assured that you will receive that call within the not-too-distant future.
25:36There's a lady as well.
25:38She comes from the Maloney District.
25:39And she advanced some information regarding what she believes to be a juvenile delinquent.
25:45And the fact that this child is not getting the type of supervision that is required at this point in time.
25:52And for that reason, she believes that he can be going along the wrong path if some intervention doesn't take place.
25:59So, we appreciate that information.
26:01And we did speak.
26:03We did speak, the lady and I.
26:05And, you know, we are seeking the input of the community policing department in order to address this issue.
26:12There was another man who called regarding issues in terms of he provides a service regarding wrecking of vehicles.
26:20Yes.
26:20And we know, Mark, that sometimes vehicles get into accidents and they cause blockage of the roadway.
26:27And we need to have those vehicles removed.
26:29We need to have vehicles taken to certain departments in order that they process for evidential value and what have you.
26:34So, they indeed provide a service.
26:37But he's saying that he hasn't received his package as yet.
26:41Yes.
26:41Yes.
26:41Very cool.
26:42Yes, yes, yes.
26:43These packages are very important.
26:44Yeah.
26:45Yeah.
26:45So, we tried calling him.
26:47So, if you are hearing us this afternoon, we tried calling you.
26:51I can tell you that someone from the administration branch also tried calling you, but we have not been successful.
26:58So, if it is that you can provide probably another number or probably reach out this afternoon and provide your information again to the Jackie where we can get a number that you are easily reached.
27:08Thank you very, very much.
27:09Pretty soon, we'll have to give you a one show.
27:13I think we have a call on the line.
27:15Mama, I was a person.
27:16We have a call on the line.
27:17Caller, good evening.
27:18Yeah, yeah.
27:19Yeah, pleasant evening to the panel.
27:21Good evening.
27:22Good evening, SP Pitt.
27:23Yes, sir.
27:24Proper police, man.
27:25Proper police.
27:26Thank you, sir.
27:27I appreciate it.
27:27You know something?
27:28But my problem here is this horse already leaves the table.
27:31You see when crime like the one that committed in Belmont, what date was?
27:35Yes.
27:35And CCTV camera capture the fetishes.
27:38Yeah.
27:39These fellas shouldn't have no breathing space, man.
27:41These fellas on them watch me.
27:43When a man put on a crime, he must be home and sweating and fearfully police come in to get him expeditiously.
27:49Yeah.
27:50And the next thing too, when you apprehend them and you take them to a court to be dealt with according to law, the judiciary system is supposed to be expedited.
27:58You sentence them to hang today and you make sure you carry out and you enforce the hangman within three days.
28:06And then these young people who committing this heinous or heinous crimes, they will catch themselves, man.
28:12But the police, I could never say them by the police.
28:14And Ismail, please, thumbs up to you.
28:16I know you're going hard.
28:18Continue going hard, man.
28:18You guys have a nice evening.
28:21Yeah.
28:21Thank you very much.
28:22Yeah.
28:23Yeah.
28:23And his sentiments, largely his sentiments of the national community in that we want justice to be swift.
28:32Severity, celerity, certainty.
28:34We want it to be swift so that it creates that type of deterrence so that anybody else who's thinking about doing something,
28:40they would understand that not only would you be held to account, but you will be held to account within the shortest possible time.
28:46And that is of paramount importance.
28:48We often hear the term justice delayed is justice denied.
28:51And, you know, largely if we interpret it, we take it to its meaning.
28:56It is.
28:57It is.
28:57Justice delayed really is justice denied.
28:59Because if something is now dealt with a thousand years from now, and I'm exaggerating,
29:07you can well imagine that the essence of it is lost.
29:12And that person, whoever is seeking justice, that community, the public at large, the value of it, it is lessened down.
29:24So that when it happens immediately, and it's hot off the press, as we say, and something happens one time,
29:29you find, yes, we could say yes, we really did, in fact, get justice.
29:33All right, good point.
29:36All right, we're going to take a short break, and we'll be back with your call.

32:05Ah, boy.
32:17I feel like I'm going to buy myself a senior retail tonight.
32:23No, no, no.
32:24You know you might be promoting slavery.
32:27Slavery?
32:28Mm-hmm.
32:29What are you talking about?
32:30Hey, modern-day slavery or human trafficking is just what some of these people just do.
32:37You know some of these women were tricked to come here?
32:42Some are held against their will, abused, and even beaten.
32:48Most times, the girls don't even see any of the money that is paid for them.
32:52Every night, they just have to come out looking nice and sexy for somebody like you.
32:57Human trafficking is a serious problem and a serious crime.
33:03Persons who solicit commercial sex services may be contributing to human trafficking.
33:08A message from the Counter-Trafficking Unit of the Ministry of National Security.
33:24Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
33:26I'm your host, Mark Bussan, joined today by ASB Ishmael Pitt of the Northern Division.
33:31And I know sometimes, you know, rather often over the last few weeks, we've had persons who are interested in applying for the FUL, you know, call the show and so on.
33:42So we wanted to show you that there are a couple of numbers that you can reach out to if you have any questions along those lines.
33:51And they are right on your screen there, 627-5217, extensions, 12-410, 12-411, or 12-412.
34:02You know, it's important because, you know, people always have questions.
34:08Yes, always, especially when it comes to firearm users' licenses.
34:12Yes.
34:12So I can imagine those lines are going to be ringing off the hook.
34:16Well, not only the lines there, but rather there's the TTPS website where apparently they are logging questions, some of the most frequently asked questions by the public.
34:28And we have here, you know, frequently asked questions.
34:32We have a question here, are business owners given priority over non-business owners?
34:37And the answer was no, there's no priority given to business owners.
34:42Each application is assessed individually based on its merit.
34:47And there's another one before you make a comment.
34:51The other question is, who conducts the psychological evaluation and is there cost involved?
34:57The psychological evaluation must be conducted by a licensed service provider chosen by the applicant.
35:05And the cost of this assessment is determined by the respective service provider.
35:10Yep.
35:11Frequently asked questions.
35:13Yeah.
35:14And I'm glad that we are using technology in order to answer these questions, in order to reach members of the public.
35:21We know firearm users license, it's a well-sought-after commodity, if I should use that term.
35:31And, you know, for that reason, persons would be very, very much interested in how you go about applying, you know, what may qualify them, what might disqualify them, as the case may be.
35:42And, again, the commissioner has committed to clearing the backlog and ensuring that the process going forward is one that is continuous.
35:55And that, you know, that, you know, persons who are qualified and who fits the criteria, who, I don't want to say on the surface, but based on all the different areas of assessment who have shown that they are really, really deserving, you know, that these persons really get an opportunity to own a fire.
36:15You speak about safety and security and FULs, but there was also some good news for the HTTPS earlier today.
36:24Homeland Minister Roger Alexander announcing today that some 800 special reserve officers are going to be absorbed into the HTTPS.
36:34Yes.
36:35And they are going to be just like normal officers.
36:38Yes.
36:39And I think that will be a great boost for the HTTPS because he indicated they were about 1,152 short of what they should be at.
36:50Yes.
36:50And I know that the HTTPS has a lot of challenges, manpower challenges, resource challenges, but it gives that, this organization, that shot in the arm that is needed,
37:03that that kind of, you know, persons will now be more, I guess, confident that they will have more visibility of police officers in and around the country.
37:17Yeah.
37:18Well, I would say it like this.
37:20There's a guy who, he was being circulated with this issue with Terrence.
37:27You know, the name Terrence came into popularity.
37:30Yes.
37:30It's extravagant news.
37:31This is so significant to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
37:36And, you know, I stand here today, you know, with that sense of accomplishment regarding this particular issue.
37:45We are glad that, you know, the authorities saw it fit to utilize those officers who are already carrying out the functions of police officers,
37:58who are already applying themselves towards community service, who already have the knowledge, the skill, the ability, and the experience,
38:08and converting them now into the regular service to boost the service towards that strength that is mandated.
38:16And it is just so significant, Mark.
38:20Oftentimes, special use of officers would complain, you know, that they would continuously be hearing absorption, absorption, absorption.
38:28And there are persons who, for their own agenda, would have been using the carotinistic and throwing absorption out, you know, for whatever the agenda was.
38:38And I'm glad that the day has reached where we have been able now to recognize that absorption wasn't just being used as a tool to advance any agenda,
38:54but to really advance the police service in the first instance, and also our ability to manage crime by extension.
39:03And that is very, very significant.
39:06Yes.
39:06And I also have some extravagant news for you.
39:08We have a caller on the line.
39:09Caller, good evening.
39:11Yes.
39:12Yes, good evening, Mr. Mark Basanti, and that senior officer of the ASP.
39:16Good evening to you.
39:17Good evening, sir.
39:18You're on the tape.
39:19I'm a great supporter of the Trinidad Police Service.
39:22I want to put up front and also a former member of the Defense Force.
39:26Yes.
39:26But I'll make an observation that occurs sometime.
39:29It seems like it's already weekend or maybe sometime during this week of an incident that occurred in the Karenage area.
39:36The Karenage area where there was some speeding car and police police firemen.
39:44And what disturbed me most is the amount of exclusive was let go by the officer.
39:51And I mean, it sounds very unprofessional.
39:54And I just want the senior officer there.
39:57I know he has that authority.
39:58Whatever station that officer is from.
40:01It's a polimian talking.
40:03Let me know with modern technology, you cannot.
40:06Don't care how the population push you.
40:09You can't behave so.
40:10Yes.
40:10I did behave very, very unprofessional.
40:13And I have told you as a former member of the W01, warrant officer class one.
40:17I would reprimand my officers.
40:19I see them get along like that.
40:21And I will say, with all the good work, you all are doing all the public relations this evening.
40:25And all the other programs.
40:27And that will send everything back to zero with that kind of behavior.
40:32So I think I would like to know that that officer has spoken to very, very sternly.
40:37Right?
40:38Because when we saw the incident with the police, I praise it.
40:42Going to the graduation.
40:45I said that is an A for the police.
40:47But this incident there, I give them a zero with that behavior of that police officer.
40:51Right?
40:52So I want to thank you for taking this up at you and giving me the vendor.
40:55God bless you.
40:56Have a good day.
40:56Yes, sir.
40:58Really appreciate it.
40:58Yes.
40:59Kuala, thanks for those comments.

43:27Subscribe today.
43:28Welcome back to Be On The Tape.
43:48I'm your host, Mark Besson,
43:49joined today by ASP Ishmael Pitt of the Northern Division.
43:53I know you're going to respond to the caller.
43:54Right, so we were discussing the incident during the break.
43:58And first and foremost, caller,
44:00we really, really appreciate your sentiments.
44:03And, you know, we always ask members of the public, you know,
44:05to help us in becoming a better organization.
44:09So your words haven't fallen on their fare.
44:11Policing is a very, very serious, serious, serious form of business.
44:16And, you know, there are good days and there are bad days.
44:18As I told you off air, I had a batch who was conducting traffic duties.
44:25And unfortunately, based on someone who broke the line of traffic
44:30and ignored the directives of the officers, today she's dead.
44:34So, you know, police officers,
44:37we encounter so many dangerous, life-threatening situations on a daily basis.
44:42And it's no secret that we have lost a lot of officers in the line of duty.
44:46So sometimes, as human beings, we become incensed.
44:52And, you know, it at times may contribute to us behaving in a particular way.
44:57That doesn't mean to say that it is acceptable at all.
45:00It is, we have our code of conduct, and we must abide by our code of conduct.
45:04So, again, I'm thanking that caller for, you know, raising the issue
45:08and dealing with it in a way that, as a true professional, would deal with it.
45:14Because he has mentioned that he has had some military service himself.
45:19You know, we always talk about this trust and confidence and how fragile it is.
45:24And he alluded to it in that all the good things that we have been doing
45:28in all the areas of successes that we have been able to experience.
45:33You know, just one incident.
45:34You know, people are just waiting for one incident, Mark,
45:36in order to say here what is going on.
45:39Yes.
45:40You know, you fail there.
45:42So let's say it's an exam and you have, like, five different subjects.
45:45You pass four, but you see that one day that you fail?
45:48Yeah, they're going to lambast you.
45:49You have failed everything, you know.
45:51But we understand that the nature of policing is serious.
45:54Our engagement with members of the public is serious.
45:57And it is not something that we can compromise with, you know.
45:59I think the important thing here we have to establish is that the TTPS customer service is a huge thing.
46:07Huge.
46:08I mean, not just in the TTPS, but across the board in Trinidad and Tobago.
46:11But you all have to interact with people every single day.
46:17And depending on how you treat these people, with social media and so on,
46:21how they tend to, if it's negative, it's going to be blasted on.
46:26Yes, of course.
46:27If it's positive in most cases, it's never put up.
46:31And that's a reality.
46:33I'm not trying to take science, but that is a reality.
46:36You will see times where a police officer recently delivered a baby in Sangre Gandhi,
46:40a couple months ago.
46:42Yes, that was brought in.
46:44But I guess the caller is right when he says that police officers need to conduct themselves,
46:50no matter, regardless of the situation, with that kind of, you know, professionalism and decorum
46:57so that persons can say, you know, that officer was rather calm and professional
47:02in the way he treated with the situation rather than becoming sensed.
47:08That's right.
47:08That's right.
47:09And we will continue to use these incidents, and we trust that they will become less and less
47:16in order to apply to our training mechanism so that we can ensure that the persons who are
47:25serving within and the persons who are coming thereafter understands what not to do
47:30or how to treat the situation from a proper professional policing perspective.
47:38And it's not to cast us persons in any way because, as I said before, we are first and foremost human beings.
47:45And it's not to say that we can use that to make excuses because when we go outside there
47:50and we perform our function as agents of the state, we are police officers,
47:53and we have an image to maintain.
47:56And that image, as we continuously say, is so important for persons to have that level of trust and confidence in us.
48:03So notwithstanding what occurred, you know, we are called upon to abide by our code of conduct.
48:08Yes, indeed.
48:09All right.
48:10So yesterday, we highlighted a missing person, and I know that Sergeant Ali would have spoken about this gentleman,
48:18Lincoln Thomas Charles.
48:20We had an ID card, but we have a better picture today showing his identity.
48:25He was last seen in the Port of Spain area on July 10, 2025, wearing a blue pants and a gray jersey.
48:33Please, anyone with information about his whereabouts, please contact 339-5940 or 346-2118 or the nearest police station.
48:46Again, his name is Lincoln Thomas Charles.
48:51So we have a much better photo.
48:53I know that the ID card photo yesterday that Sergeant Ali lamented, it was very difficult to dissen.
49:00Yes.
49:00Because it would have been an old ID card and only photo, at least.
49:04So it's important to have updated images of persons when they're missing to circulate so that people can identify them easier.
49:12Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course.
49:14Because we know at times some persons, they may suffer from certain ailments, and I'm not saying that is the case in this instance.
49:21And for that reason, they may wander off.
49:25They may end up in areas that might not be the most friendly.
49:28It mightn't be the most safe.
49:31And yes, there are civic-minded persons who would want to call and they would want to give the information.
49:36And if we have a good photograph of that person, definitely we'll be helping members of the public in order to help us.
49:43Yes.
49:43So that's all.
49:44All right.
49:45Let's take a short break and we'll be back.
49:46Stay with us.

52:50Welcome back to Be On The Tape.
53:11From your host, Mark Musan, joined today by A.S.P. H. Malpit, who seems to be a little bit, you know, peckish.
53:19Just now, we're almost done.
53:22Mark, listen to me.
53:23You are the foodie, right?
53:25You are the guy that goes from one point of Sharan Tobago to another point of Sharan Tobago
53:30in order to satisfy your appetite.
53:32Well, of course.
53:33Nothing is wrong with that, man.
53:34Let's have a check out the areas you went to a burkini the other day and you have a good routine.
53:37Yes, yes, yes.
53:38Well, I mean.
53:39Excellent, excellent routine.
53:41Yeah, indeed.
53:42But that is trending now.
53:43Yeah.
53:43And, you know, it is boosting business and that in itself is excellent.
53:50And as Trinidadians, as Tobagoians, we love our food, our spicy food.
53:56Some of the best food in the Caribbean.
53:57That cultural mix, that blend, we have all brought all those ingredients to the pot.
54:04And for that reason, there are dishes that exist in Sharan Tobago that don't exist in any other part of the world.
54:09And for that, you know, we need to really be grateful, you know, that we have been able to, through our diversity,
54:19bring that level of inclusion that has facilitated our ability to have these cultural explosions,
54:25even if it's manifested through food.
54:29Indeed, indeed.
54:31All this talk about food getting me hungry, but I know on a serious note you wanted to kind of shed some light on something at the Larry Treat area.
54:39Yeah, yeah.
54:40So, a couple nights ago, well, let me start by saying this.
54:44It's no secret that Larry Treat within the Northern Division has been, or it had been posing some challenges.
54:51Yes.
54:51And we were able to have some interventions.
54:54We had a strategic approach.
54:58And for all intent and purposes, it has proven to be very, very successful.
55:03However, a couple nights ago, that was somewhat shattered.
55:08I'm saying somewhat because it's not totally shattered, you know, when two persons were wounded in the area.
55:15So, we are saying, Larry Treat, Larry Treat residents, please, we do not want to go back to where we were.
55:22We have committed ourselves.
55:25We have committed a lot of resources, community policing, caravan.
55:30You know, we have so many operational teams in the area.
55:33We have a significant amount of presence.
55:37The rapport between the police and the community continues to improve.
55:40And we don't want to regress.
55:41We want to continue to progress.
55:44So, yes, it does mean to say that within that short period of time that things have, you know, things that were negative have totally turned around.
55:54But, you know, the trajectory appears quite positive, and we want to maintain that line.
55:59Yeah, and it's important, and not just in that community, but other at-risk communities across Trinidad and Tobago.
56:06You know, that intrinsic work that you all do together with other NGOs and other organizations can go a long way in bridging that gap of trust, of accountability, of transparency even with the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
56:20And it's really heartwarming when you all have events like that where you have the kids and these families coming out and conversating with police officers in a very informal atmosphere, very relaxing atmosphere.
56:34That's right.
56:34Where you can actually get to know the person, not just because you're a police officer or you're a resident of that area, but you have something more meaningful to discuss outside of that.
56:43And cultivate friendships as you go along.
56:47Yes, and we have been able to bring the lighter side of police in.
56:53We utilize our mounted branch, you know, where the officers introduce the horses, and the kids are very much curious, and it piques their interest in terms of the horses and how the horses respond to them.
57:05And we always boast, Mark, we have the best orchestra.
57:08We have the best band in Trinidad and Tobago.
57:11And I'm glad that no one has come on national television to even try to test that, right?
57:17So it means to say it's an accepted fact.
57:20So our band who goes to different areas and different communities in order to show that it's not that we can police in alone, it's not that we are limited just to what we'll call the normal traditional arrest and account sort of thing.
