03:14Welcome to the 6 to 26 World Cup Podcast with Andre, Errol Batiste, and Tony Lee.
03:44Welcome to Beyond the Tape.
04:05I'm your host, Mark Basant.
04:06Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago.
04:08Of course, our international viewers and our brothers and sisters in the Isles of Grenada.
04:14Well, this morning, it certainly started off as a very wet one.
04:18And as you know, there was some serious and clement weather.
04:22And we had the phenomenon, of course, of that, you know, a water spout there just in the Gulf of Paria of West Moorings here.
04:29And then we also had what was termed a land spout tornado that created some havoc in the West Moorings area as well as Victoria Gardens and the Caranage area, but mostly in the West Moorings.
04:46This is where the tornado would have stripped off several roofs across the West Moorings area.
04:53And that debris, of course, flying in the air, flung several hundred feet away from these homes at some times or even very close to these homes.
05:04And no doubt, it would have been a dangerous situation, as you would have seen here, captured from a distance by someone.
05:12And then we also had a motorist that was driving alongside that area there when he actually captured one of the roofs of the homes being stripped off like nothing because of the sheer force and velocity of the winds there.
05:31And, of course, at least in the Cherry Crescent area in West Moorings, we understand at least three to four homes were severely affected.
05:42The roofs all blown off.
05:44And then there was also fallen trees and debris in other areas.
05:49And here we see the aftermath of the destruction in Cherry Crescent.
05:54Several persons coming out there and the assistance residents very shaken by this experience.
05:59We have the Minister of Local Government, Ms. Khadija Amin, on spot, as well as the MP for the area, Hans Deveens, Diego Martin West, as well as other responders.
06:13The fire services, TNTech, who came back and who came into the area, of course, to restore power.
06:18We also had officers from the nearby fire services as well all getting there to render aid.
06:25Thankfully, of course, we can see that no one was hurt, but definitely some damage done to a lot of these properties.
06:34And, of course, over the next couple of days, these persons will be seeking to get that kind of assistance from the government.
06:42We also had some flooding in the Maracas Beach area after that serious inclement weather this morning.
06:50And there were also reported flooding in areas in Carinage, as well as in South Trinidad and Gasperlo.
06:58And we also had some incidents of fallen trees along the North Coast Road around lunchtime period.
07:05So, yeah, there you see there's some debris.
07:08So, quite some situations, dangerous situations of flooding, of falling trees, debris, and, of course, you know, those strips of metal and wood being ripped off from the roofs of homes of persons in West Trinidad.
07:26And also, equally, a big story as well, just afternoon today, the Commissioner of Police obviously sending out a release indicating the rearrest of Housing Minister David Lee on judicial warrants that were filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions under pursuant to Section 23.5 of the Indictable Offenses Preliminary Inquiry Act, Chapter 1201.
07:54And in accordance with the legal mandate, and without delay, both individuals were taken into custody by officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
08:02And if you don't understand the dynamics, of course, there was a no-case submission made by David Lee's lawyers on April 7th.
08:10And the matter was obviously thrown out.
08:12But, however, the DPP would have felt that perhaps the magistrate owed in law and would have filed, sorry, for a judicial warrant through a judge who would have seen that there was sufficient evidence to prosecute the case.
08:29And, of course, now the matter goes directly to the High Court for determination.
08:35And, of course, with us today is none other, no stranger, of course, DCP for administration, Mr. Junior Benjamin.
08:44Welcome, sir.
08:44How have you been?
08:45Well, it's good to be here, first of all, Mark.
08:48And to all the listening audience, it's indeed a privilege to, you know, share this moment with you.
08:53And, again, I've been great.
08:55I mean, you know, times, you know, new portfolio, but I must say this is where we continue to learn and to go, even as executive officers.
09:05And I really am enjoying my stint as the DCP administration.
09:10Very busy, but I'm saying it's worth it.
09:13Well, certainly a lot of work in that particular portfolio, DCP.
09:18I know there are a lot of administrative things you have to deal with on your plate, across the board.
09:23And how has the transition been for you?
09:26Yes, well, I must say that, first of all, let me commend my, you know, former DCP, DCP George, in terms of the legacy that she left.
09:39It's really not an easy office.
09:41And I think that she has done a lot of the foundation that today I am standing on, and I'm able to build on that.
09:48I'm not going to be starting anything new.
09:51Quite a number of things she was doing, and I think she was doing a tremendous job.
09:54So I commend her on that, and I'm now going to continue to build on that.
09:58We had a wonderful transition.
10:00And I think with the help of the Commission of Police helping us in really putting all these things together, for me, it has been a smooth one.
10:09And my intention is to continue to really look at the officers, look at their concerns, look at the resources,
10:15and see how we can use those resources to the best so that we can fight crime and ensure that we ensure a decrease in the crime situation.
10:23Yeah, well, no doubt, one of the major issues remain, you know, gun violence and the proliferation of guns on the streets of Trinidad and Tobago.
10:34No doubt, just a while ago, there was a shooting homicide in the Marshall Trace area in Kanupia.
10:42As you can see here, you can see the video, I understand that the alleged gunman was somebody riding on a bike.
10:52So you hear the gunshots running out, there's a vehicle passing by.
10:56And, yes, this is supposedly the suspect heading out of the area.
11:11So, of course, we would like anybody with information concerning this individual, a person of interest, I should say,
11:19any information of the whereabouts of that individual, to contact the nearest police station, 800-TIPS or 999.
11:29We understand a person, a male was shot and killed in the Marshall Trace area in the Kanupia.
11:38So, that was one of at least three persons killed within the last couple of hours.
11:46We also had a fatal double shooting in the Mount Hope area.
11:51This is a video compliment of Alexander Bruzel from the Trinidad Express.
11:57And in that shooting, we understand three persons were shot.
12:01Apparently, the individuals, a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed.
12:06His name is Jovel Paul.
12:07There was Rodney Slater and Cody Best, who were also in this area liming.
12:12And what we understand, DCP, was that gunmen came up from an area and opened fire with high-powered weapons,
12:20hitting all three individuals.
12:23Of course, unfortunately, a young man lost his life, 15 years of age, Jovel Paul.
12:29The two others were rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital, or Mount Hope, rather.
12:33I'm not certain, unconfirmed reports have indicated that one other might have passed.
12:39But as far as we know so far, the other two are in critical condition.
12:42Yes.
12:43And first of all, let me send condolences, you know, to that young man and the family,
12:49certainly from the Toronto Bureau Police Service.
12:52It's really, you know, something that I think is unfortunate.
12:55And really and truly, I think that we have to do something even more to try to arrest the situation.
13:03That being said, we believe that the crime situation, as much as I think that we are seeking to really suppress the crime,
13:15there's still, and I think that we can't really stop crime, but because crime is so much a phenomenon that it's not static, it's dynamic.
13:26And therefore, we have to allow the data to help us.
13:29We are going to have these highs and lows.
13:32There are days that we are going to see very little, sometimes none.
13:35There are days we're going to see probably a proliferation of them.
13:38But nevertheless, I think that the Toronto Bureau Police Service, we continue to be encouraged when we look overall at the overall stats,
13:50that there is some, if we can use, when we look at the trends, some reduction.
13:57To this point, I think up to yesterday, we had 279 murders compared to 485.
14:04Even though we are day two or three, we still would see that we are nearly 200 and more murders less than we had last year.
14:13And therefore, I am saying, when we look holistically, every single month, we have gone below what was there last year.
14:22And we continue.
14:24It's a fight and it's a struggle.
14:27But I think the attitude of our officers is one that we are not going to give up.
14:32We are asking the society and we are asking the citizens to join us on this fight.
14:37This is something that we believe that if we have the true support of the citizenry sharing the information with us,
14:45we are going to get to the bottom of this.
14:47And we are going to ensure that we leave no stone unturned in getting to the bottom of these murders.
14:53Certainly.
14:53And we also had a double homicide in the San Juan area on Monday night.
14:57Those victims were identified as Kevin Boccage and James Narine Booth, who are from the Diggle Martin area.
15:06And we also had a woman that lost her life during a stabbing around 7 o'clock at her home in Teresa Street on Marabella.
15:15On Monday night, her name is Keisha Wildman, 43, was pronounced dead at the San Fernando General Hospital.
15:21This is a general area where the incident would have occurred.
15:26Another unfortunate incident involving a female in this instance stopped her death following an altercation of some sort.
15:37It's really sad, DCP.
15:38Yes, and let me just say that, again, we send our condolences out to the family, you know,
15:46and what you're seeing, and I want to use the term, some senseless killings.
15:52It is based on, again, quite a number of altercations and persons that they seem not to have control of their emotions
16:01and sometimes allow those emotions to go wild.
16:04Nevertheless, you know, we continue to deal with these situations, and we really would want to see this thing abated.
16:13Nevertheless, when we understand crime, crime comes from that sinful nature that will always pop up ever so often.
16:20So we just want to encourage Trinidad and Tobago to really let us start to value each other.
16:28I think we're living in a time where persons tend not to value the importance of life,
16:34but we need to, you know, value each other and value the importance of someone else's life as well,
16:41and let's treat each other, you know, as our brother's keeper.
16:45All right, well said, DCP.
16:47All right, it's day 82 of the state of emergency.
16:49We want to take a look at those figures to date.
16:52Number of operations, 5,929.
16:56Target priority offenders, 2,088.
16:59Searches conducted, 37,612.
17:03Traffic operations, 3,880.
17:06Total persons arrested, 2,589.
17:10Traffic offenses detected, 22,343.
17:15Firearms recovered in total, 154.
17:18Ammunition recovered in total, 1,855 rounds.
17:23We had a rise again in a dangerous drug.
17:25Seized, 465,408.42 grams of marijuana.
17:31Also a rise in cocaine.
17:32Seized, 8,232.18 grams of cocaine, 1032 STC pills, and 15 grams of molly.
17:41Yes, first of all, I want to congratulate the officers of the Trans-Tobago Police Service
17:49because let's appreciate, you know, even in the first SOE, we had, and I asked for those numbers,
17:59we had 5,192 operations in the first SOE.
18:03We are now in the second SOE, and we have 5,828.
18:06It means that if you tally that together, we have well over 11,000 operations done by the Trans-Tobago Police,
18:14and it shows that our officers, we are not sitting down.
18:18We are not, you know, just walking around.
18:21We are on the job 24-7, and I want to just stop and just thank the officers, you know,
18:28for really putting country first.
18:31That being said, there is still work to be done.
18:34We are certainly not satisfied.
18:36We believe that there is more presence that needs to be out there as we deal with the crime situation.
18:41But nevertheless, when we also look at the number of firearms that has been recovered,
18:46we continue, I think just, I think yesterday or the day before,
18:50we had about three or four firearms, high-powered weapons that were seized by ACP Smith and his team there.
18:58And it means that the officers, we are outside there, and we are really working hard to get those guns off the street,
19:05and the officers are there to ensure that we keep Trinidad and Tobago safe once again.
19:10So, we are doing our part, and I just want to encourage the officers, you know, in the midst of everything,
19:16that we would really, you know, put country first and put, you know, service before self
19:21as we continue to make Trinidad and Tobago better every day.
19:24Certainly.
19:24All right, let's take a quick look now at our headlines.
19:54All right, those were some of the headlines over the last 24 hours.

23:33Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
23:49I'm your host, Mark Bussan.
23:50Of course, joined today by DCP Junior Benjamin of Administration of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
23:56And, of course, you all remember those brave officers together with a civilian who saved an 8-year-old girl, I believe it was on Monday.
24:06We want to check out the video, the commendation for PC's guy and Neptune.
24:10It's not often that we can come to a ceremony of such a nature where we honor officers for going above and beyond for bravery.
24:25Now, I remember on the 17th of June, starting exactly the rate of the day, in the barracks, when I spoke about an officer who joined the TTPS to become a superhero.
24:33I didn't know these two fellas was going to take this thing literally and jump into a river.
24:39So, fellas, I just want to say thank you so much for representing TTPS in the manner that you all have represented.
24:45You all have shown a different pace to the organization and one where other persons might be able to take an example from what you have done to place their own lives at risk to save the lives of others.
24:57And that's what we joined the job for.
24:58So, I just want to say thank you and an appreciation on behalf of myself and the DCPs and other senior members of staff, as well as the minister, to commend you all here today for that effort.
25:11Your commitment, dedication, selflessness, just a bundle of words to express the things that you would have done yesterday in saving a life.
25:21Too many times police officers, we are neglected, well, where it was before, you are neglected because people say that's part of your duty.
25:32Your duty is not to lose your life.
25:35Your duty is to save life.
25:37And that is what they did yesterday.
25:38We also want to commend the assistance of the civilian and we applaud that.
25:42But, all in all, gentlemen, you have displayed nothing short of being a hero, as the Commissioner of Police said.
25:54I want you to take back that same sentiment that we just gave to you.
25:56Pass it on to your colleagues and tell them, listen, all is not bad.
26:01Save a life.
26:03Yeah?
26:04Because someday it might be yours to save.
26:12ECP Benjamin, certainly a feel-good moment for the HTTPS.
26:18Those officers, hats off to you all, are risking your lives to save a young girl together with a civilian.
26:24And I don't think, you know, they didn't hesitate and they did what they needed to do to get that child to safety.
26:33Yeah, and I want to say that's the type of, you know, police officer you want to see and to meet.
26:40And sometimes you might never get, you know, the great accolades, you know, and even the medals of honor.
26:49But, you know, I'm grateful, first of all, that the Commissioner choose to honor those officers because they are the unsung heroes.
26:57And also there was a civilian, let's not forget the work of the civilian.
27:00Mr. Ramsey, yes.
27:01Yes.
27:02Dylan Ramsey.
27:03And I think that we have to understand there, to me, is a wonderful picture that if the police and, you know, and the citizenry work together, we can save lives.
27:12And that is exactly what we're here for.
27:15And I really want to commend, you know, Mr. Neptuno and Officer Taylor as well for a job well done.
27:21And we are so very proud of them.
27:24And we pray that, you know, that God will continue to bless them as they continue to do their job, so fear of fever, malice, or ill will.
27:31Yeah, and I'm sitting here at some point, you know, the young lady who's doing well, her mother said she's doing well,
27:39probably want to meet all three of these men who assisted her and convey her own thanks to them.
27:45Yes.
27:46For her life.
27:46Yes, yes, yes.
27:47And I think it will be a wonderful moment, you know, to see that and, you know, to have a picture with that because I think it's something that I think she will always remember for the rest of her life.
27:57Most definitely.
27:58A second chance of life.
27:59Yeah.
28:00All right.
28:00So we also want to, you know, it's a little sad moment, but at the same time, you know, some people need to retire.
28:07And on the TTPS, the retirement of a canine by the name, I'm not sure if I have the right name, Skok, S-K-O-K.
28:16Let's take a look at this feature.
28:17I am here today to tell you about one of our veteran dogs, and that is canine Skok.
28:34Now, canine Skok was a dog that was imported.
28:37He was imported from the U.S., and canine Skok will be turning nine pretty soon.
28:44Nine in the TTPS is our retirement age, which we send them home with their handlers so they can rest and be relaxed for all the years of hard work that they have done.
28:58Canine Skok has been with Constable Tichero for the past seven years, and they have been an awesome team.
29:07They have given countless hours of work, service, dedication, manpower.
29:13You name it, they have done it.
29:15Skok has been one of the dogs to take countless.
29:17I do not have enough fingers on my hands to tell you how many firearms and ammunitions that he has taken off the street in the past seven years that he has worked.
29:27He has surpassed the million-dollar mark by far in the amount of narcotics, drugs, firearms, you name it, apprehending suspects.
29:37It is amazing what he has done, and I just want to say that, you know, I am thankful for all the service that he has given us.
29:45He is a police officer just like us, and that's how we treat them.
29:48We treat our canines like our partners because they are.
29:51We love them.
29:53I want to wish Skok all the best as he goes into retirement.
29:56I just hope he has a fantastic retirement because I think when you work hard and when you've given yourself to the service that much, then there should be a fantastic reward at the end.
30:08So I wish Skok all the best.
30:09Canine Skok, truly another hero in its own right there, DCP, officer of the TTPS now retiring after nine years of all those detections he would have made.
30:35Amazing.
30:36Amazing.
30:37She talked about over a million detections of drugs, guns, suspects, and I think a lot of people don't see how important the canine unit is and how important these dogs are, the cadaver dogs, the drug dogs, the gun dogs, etc.
30:52Yeah, and I want to just probably salute Officer Skok in terms of his contribution to the police service.
31:04And sometimes, you know, people don't understand that, you know, what they really bring in terms of their worth.
31:13But I think, you know, every firearm that they take off the streets are lives that have been saved.
31:18Every, the drugs that they are able to, you know, be able to help us to seize, it's really helping us in terms of the crime fight.
31:26And we are grateful, you know, for, you know, the dogs and even the horses and all the canines on a whole.
31:35And I want to just commend, you know, not just the canine, but even the handlers for the patience that they would have done in really becoming one team.
31:45Yes.
31:45And ensuring that, you know, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service continues to fight crime.
31:50And we're just really grateful for every single member of the service, and they are part of the service.
31:57And we are wishing him, you know, a wonderful retirement.
32:01And I know that, you know, as he continues, you know, his life would be a legacy for many, you know, others that they would want to replicate that in the future.
32:11Certainly. I'm just a little bit curious how he got the name Scott.
32:14Yeah. Myself, myself.
32:15Perhaps the canine unit can share that with us at some juncture, how we got that name.
32:21Maybe it was something from the U.S. I don't know.
32:24They observed. It was just a very unique and different name.
32:28Yeah. Well, I know it was Spock, you know, Star Trek.
32:31So I don't know. I don't know. It's going to be quite interesting.
32:34Exactly.

34:45violence has moved online abusers now use technology to stalk harass and control
34:59from demanding passwords and constant check-ins to sharing intimate images without consent
35:05this is digital abuse it's a real and growing threat especially for younger women let's learn
35:13to identify red flags and protect our loved ones in the virtual world
35:18welcome back to reality i'm your host mark was on of course joined today by the speed junior
35:42benjamin of admin for the trinidad and tobago police service and disappear i know that it's five
35:48weeks in now to the school initiative program that the gtps has embarked upon with the ministry of
35:56education and if you can give us an oversight as to how you think that that project is um is faring
36:03yes well um again i think um the aim first of all is always to remember the aim the aim is that we
36:10wanted to ensure that we um build that greater environment where there is greater safety safety
36:17and security within the school environment we wanted to ensure that we at least you know uh create
36:24a greater support to the principals the deans and as we join arms not just as the police service but
36:33the police service with the mts with the uh security officers there that we form part of that support
36:39team in order to bring a more positive environment where our children could really um probably come
36:47for learning and not to be part and parcel of problems and fightings and etc it is in that light
36:54that um i must say i think that we are accomplishing our goals um
36:59i start to just ask and inquire so what we would normally do we have uh acp sudeen and um we have
37:09superintendent well more we would go around from time to time to different schools find out from the
37:14principals what is happening and so forth and so far i'm saying we have been having positive reports
37:22in terms of the police officers in the schools and that they are making a difference in terms of uh
37:28lessening the number of fights and so on in the school has it stopped well i would not say that it
37:33has stopped completely but certainly we've seen a reduction in that and i think that we are heading
37:38in the right direction what we've seen however is that there's a movement of of that fighting from
37:43within the school to now we've seen it outside and that in itself is what is being played out
37:49and therefore we have to now uh add to our strategies how we will deal with the situation
37:56that is um more or less showing out itself especially um in the different uh public places
38:04yes and as you are seeing on your tv screens here uh two uh fights captured um quite recently in the
38:12public space as you indicated dcp benjamin uh what is the police um perhaps moving to to address
38:21this particular fallout or spillover outside of the schools precincts and on the public streets of
38:27trinidad and tobago yes so you know as we look at these situations first and foremost we are now
38:34recognizing that um we are actually tracking on a regular basis where we are seeing most of these
38:40right so just as you have right you know hot spots i believe that there are some hot spots that we
38:45we are um we are looking at because there are some areas that we recognize that these uh school
38:51children they love to frequent uh so we are going to be targeting those areas uh ensure that we have
38:56police officers there we are going to also be encouraging um persons to get into their cars because
39:02i think sometimes we allow those children to stay there loitering and eventually um they find themselves
39:08involved in these these situations so we want to have police officers there and ensuring that we
39:14get the movement going yes yes get to your homes etc so we are going to be looking at those areas we
39:20are hoping at the same time to look at the the the students that are normally involved in these situations
39:26because it's really about um seeking you know to bring some level of rehabilitation so we would want to
39:33uh speak with them and to have them involved in you know um part and parcel of the community um youth
39:41clubs right um and therefore um we have some initiatives within the youth clubs that we believe can help
39:47these young people so we would want to see how we could use that as a tool to get them you know uh
39:53probably even part and parcel of it so that we could help them to be more positive in terms of their
39:58outlook on life now a couple days ago the minister of homeland security mr roger alexander did say
40:05that he believes that some of these young children in these schools uh that when they commit criminal
40:11acts should be tried as adults what's your take on that that's a very interesting and uh again um
40:18uh interesting view and i think that the minister probably um would probably look at certain areas and
40:27certain uh countries where those things um probably are done and would have made that statement and
40:35and so forth and i i am saying that you know it is twofold i think that there are certain situations
40:42that we have to allow it to be based on its own merit because what we really don't want to do is to
40:49really treat a a child as a criminal too young and then it really spoils them for the rest of their life
40:57uh their minds are still very impressionable and yes i i know that uh the children can do things that
41:04could really um to me be very annoying and even sometimes uh the the tendency seem to be um one that
41:13it does not bring a good report but nevertheless i think that their minds are still uh minds that can be
41:21changed and therefore we need to see that we have opened the door to to at least um it should not be
41:27punitive but it should be rehabilitative in terms of our decisions and i still believe that um we we
41:34have a system right now and we just need to use it to the best of our ability to see how we can really
41:40rehabilitate them and bring them and make them productive citizens of charity yeah i think i think
41:44that should be the first and uppermost things uh in the minds of of the adults who are treating with
41:50these situations and as you said it's you have to judge every case on its merit yes and uh you know
41:56some might be milder than others but uh we don't want to scar this person's or this young impressionable
42:04mind for life because then if that happens you know who knows they might end up end up on that path
42:10of wrong for the rest of their life and we certainly don't want that to happen yeah so i i think that
42:15um you know we we have to look at every situation and um all in all i i think that you know i've seen
42:23personally where persons who when they grew up they were real troublemakers and i can tell you of an
42:29individual the man was extremely a troublemaker i thought and this person is now i thought a true
42:36businessman and legitimate businessman and you kind of wonder when it happened you know but changes do
42:42happen you know in in the lives of individual and i'm just saying you know we just need to ensure that
42:48we um seek to speak into the hearts of those young people all right we're going to take a short break
42:54and when we get back we'll take some of your calls stay with us

51:05crime and and one of the things that at the you know even when I was there in
51:11terms of the DCP operation we have a response time policy right now so that
51:16is something that we recognize in the past that we needed to work on and we
51:21have put things in place to ensure that there is a faster response to our crimes
51:27and and for us that is very important in order for us to build that level of
51:32trust and for the public to build that level of trust in the police so yes when
51:37we respond quickly we can get results and as was testified by the caller you
51:43know certainly we have seen especially this year some tangible change and you
51:51know and benefits that came out of that I think that there are certain cases and I
51:58want to just say to the caller even though you're not hearing about it it
52:02is not that we are not doing anything about it there are some cases because of
52:07the the complexity of it it takes a while before it is you see the results and
52:14again that is why especially with these white collar crimes and these things it to
52:21build the case that is able to stand the level of scrutiny within the courts it is
52:28not something that happens overnight and therefore there's a level of patience
52:32that you really need to have as we continue to do our jobs but let me assure
52:36you that once we are doing our jobs we do it thoroughly and the officers that we
52:41have there they are some of the very best in the ACIB and other places and I can
52:47assure you that we will continue to do those job or the job that we're doing
52:53without fear of favor malice or ill will so thank you so very much for your call
52:56yeah I don't think it's a case of the police avoiding investigations as you
53:01said they would have compiled their information and then of course they will
53:05hand it over to the DPP the DPP makes the determination whether or not charges
53:10should go forward or be laid in a particular matter so and sometimes it
53:14might be very complex as you say so he will tell you you know the police need to
53:17go back and do some more work here and so on so we have to understand you have to look
53:20at it in the wholeness and the whole process all right we have another call
53:25on the line caller good evening and welcome to be on the tape good evening
53:29good evening good evening Mark good evening Benjamin how are you guys we're good
53:33great thank you all right so let me try let me try not to take up too much of your
53:37time but not leaving out too much information so mr. Benjamin a situation
53:43has occurred over two years ago where some of sealers tried to rub my
53:51establishment but because I was you know gifted with a fuel I you know I'm the top
53:58one of them by using my fire now all investigations was done everything
54:06happened everything went through with the goodly officers at the CID and footage
54:15was you know reviewed and everything came back on to said whereby I was not in the
54:22wrong everything was right everything was correct the fire was taken away to go to
54:28forensics all the processes and every single time since I've been hearing
54:35trustee process trustee process trustee process within the two-year period two
54:42attempts were made other was maybe in the making and because of my alertness I had
54:50to use the front measure and up to today if I am has not been returned now the
54:57investigation is over everything is done the the guy who was shot he went to jail and
55:04as I said the investigation is totally finished he served his time but yet still I am to
55:10receive my fuel back in my hand every time I ask from the lowest rank maybe from the
55:18corporal go straight up to inspectors nobody has an answer nobody can say
55:24anything everything went through forensic everything was conclusive but now the
55:30Christmas season is rapidly approaching and I need to know am I to close up my shop
55:36because you know these bandits are still in the crowd I'm asking for your help kindly I'm trying my best to protect myself my family and my business
55:49thank you thank you thank you so very much Kola and I hope that I can get you was I
55:59have your name or number as well I can certainly get in contact with you and to
56:06assist you we have these situations where again there is a process that needed need to
56:13be accomplished and at least to be completed in fact I should use and the process in itself
56:18sometimes takes a long while and even in the whole process sometimes you find these situations where
56:25persons you know are left I don't know I won't say we are forgotten but these things do happen and
56:31it's unfortunate but we are certainly what we want to fix that we want to ensure that there must be greater efficiency and
56:39effectiveness this is about your life and your life is important to us the police
56:44and we would want to see how we can deal with that and I just want to see you know
56:49if you find these things happening don't hesitate to probably even write you know
56:53the Commission or just get an update because sometimes we because we're not
56:58getting to the head of the fountain and so on we might not be aware of all these
57:01things sometimes you know so again let me apologize for that inconvenience but
57:07certainly get in contact with me and let me see how I can assist it will be my
57:10pleasure to assist you in this situation
57:11yes certainly DCP I think we had a discussion not you but I think sergeant and
57:17he had some maybe about six months out ago but there was a similar incident
57:21business owner was accosted he had to defend himself to assailants and he went
57:28through the rigors of course of everything was cleared and that's been more than a year
57:32now since you've been waiting for his license for him to be returned to him so
57:36I'm thinking that data process needs to be tightened up in some form or fashion and
57:41as the caller pointed out everything was clear and he's just trying to comprehend
57:47why he's unable to get his firearm back now I think with the whole even though this I
57:53think they can still be some processes in terms of the forensic and the
57:57different things that needs to be done and sometimes those things are beyond our
58:01control at times but nevertheless I am saying that we should really try to see
58:06how you know how we could be even more effective in this manner because again
58:11you're playing with the lives of persons and people want to just feel more you
58:15know confident when you're there that you have a fighting chance all right so we
58:19seem to be running out of time thanks so much for the last hour DCP Benjamin
58:22remember we run tonight at 11 30 another repeat tomorrow at 11 o'clock the TV6 news is
58:29up next and we'll see you back here tomorrow have a good one
