00:32Good morning, ladies.
00:35Wake up.
00:41So I wake up this morning and I am dead.
00:45Like literally dead, like take my pulse, it's not there, zombie sort of thing.
00:48I'm pretty sure this show is not about fashion design,
00:51it's about public torture of designers on television.
00:56Moving into Atlas was such a good experience because it meant that I made it,
00:59it meant that I was in it, and we're ready to go.
01:02Just blow this joy, right?
01:04No hounds of weight.
01:05Yeah, I don't want to waste any time.
01:06Let's go.
01:08Let's go.
01:12Let's go.
01:13Let's go.
01:14Let's go.
01:16Let's go.
01:17Let's go.
01:18Let's go.
01:18Hello everybody.
01:19Hi.
01:20Congratulations.
01:21You made it through the final audition of Project Runway,
01:24and you are officially on the show.
01:27Yay.
01:28Furthermore, you should all be very proud of what you achieved in the last challenge,
01:33especially given the time frame.
01:36We're thrilled to have Joanna Coles,
01:38editor-in-chief of Marie Claire magazine, with us today.
01:42She's going to tell you all about your next challenge.
01:45For this challenge, Marie Claire wants you to design a look
01:48that tells the audience in a single brief glance
01:51who the Marie Claire woman is.
01:53She's intelligent, she's practical,
01:56she's fashion-forward, confident, and sexy.
01:59The winner of this challenge will have their look featured
02:02in the Marie Claire billboard campaign
02:04running in New York's Times Square.
02:07That is super exciting, I mean that is huge.
02:10Wow.
02:11Focus on a billboard unless you're like a Calvin Klein model
02:15or you too.
02:17It's going to appear 40 feet tall,
02:19so bad workmanship will show up,
02:21and the billboard image will be photographed
02:24by one of the hottest fashion photographers around,
02:27James Macari, who shoots the Victoria's Secret campaign
02:29and does many fashion shoots for Marie Claire.
02:32You have one day for this challenge,
02:35which compared to what you just went through is a luxury.
02:37Say goodbye to Heidi and Joanna.
02:39We're headed off to the work room at Parsons.
02:41Come with me.
02:41Good luck. Bye, everybody.
02:43I see you on the runway.
02:53All right, designers.
02:55You have 30 minutes to sketch.
02:57All right?
02:58All right.
02:59And I will return.
03:01Work hard.
03:04So what I decided to do is something
03:07that I haven't done yet,
03:08and I threw myself a curveball
03:10and decided to do pants.
03:12It's all about shape,
03:14and it's going to be very Marie Claire.
03:18My design is the infinity dress.
03:20It was a concept I had in my mind for a long time.
03:23It also represents an eight
03:24for Project Runway season eight.
03:26I like this idea because infinity is a very positive sign.
03:29People get anxiety and fear when they think about death,
03:31and infinity is just, you know, it's forever.
03:34What's better than infinity?
03:37Designers, sketching time is up.
03:39Bring with you whatever you need
03:41for our shopping exposition at Mood.
03:48It's our first trip to Mood.
03:50Very exciting.
03:51You have your $150 budget.
03:53All right?
03:54You have 30 minutes beginning now.
04:01What I'm looking for is a cotton,
04:04tweety, houndstoothy kind of thing.
04:06Isn't there one more lane down here?
04:08All they have is wool.
04:10And I grab this polka dotted stuff
04:13and this brown dupioni, and it's bad.
04:17Oh, my God.
04:19You have five minutes.
04:21Ah!
04:24Okay, everybody.
04:26That's it.
04:27Time.
04:30Thank you, Mood.
04:32We'll be back.
04:39All right, designers.
04:41You have until midnight tonight.
04:44So plan on finishing tonight.
04:46And if you have some tweaking to do,
04:48you can do that in the morning.
04:52The back shoulder, it should be more up to the front
04:58than the front to the back.
05:00Are you asking me?
05:01Yes.
05:03If I...
05:03What do I think?
05:04Like this.
05:08I mean, no offense.
05:09I'm...
05:10I'm not going to help you pattern.
05:12Sorry.
05:13I'm sorry.
05:14That's okay.
05:14I'm just not.
05:15I don't know what happened with AJ.
05:17I just ask simple question.
05:20I think he's very into the competition.
05:22I respect that.
05:24Most of the designer, they share the stuff.
05:27They learn.
05:28They make opinion.
05:29I don't...
05:30I don't take it personal.
05:31Is this the way he is?
05:33I'm cool.
05:34I'm not going to sew it for you.
05:37Coming up on Project One Mate.
05:39What's this?
05:40I think it looks cheap.
05:41They look discordant.
05:43I really don't care about what the other people think.
05:45They don't really interest me.
05:46I'm just baffled.
05:58How is everybody?
06:00Valerie.
06:01Hi, Tim.
06:02I'd love to hear what you're doing.
06:03I was thinking of a classic trench coat dress,
06:05but I'm having the skirt be fitted.
06:09I have to say, I really respond positively to that.
06:11I think Valerie's work is really incredible.
06:15Where's your zipper?
06:15And I think she's my top competition.
06:18Does it look too brassy?
06:19Yeah.
06:19For me, I think it looks cheap.
06:21Really?
06:21Oh, gosh.
06:22Tim, that's a kiss of death.
06:24See?
06:24It is.
06:25So keep it clean.
06:26Okay, I'll keep it clean.
06:27Go, go, go.
06:28Okay, I will.
06:28I'm going to cut away and get to sewing.
06:31Jason, gorgeous colors.
06:34Love your palette.
06:35It's going to come down like this, like an eight.
06:37So it's two sides of an eight.
06:41Yeah.
06:42Overlapping each other.
06:43Yeah.
06:43Like a wrap.
06:45Yeah, kind of.
06:46Like it's an infinity dress, like eight.
06:49Like for season eight, Project Runway.
06:52Jason's mysterious.
06:53And he has like the bowler hat all clockwork orange, you know?
06:55But as a designer, I am not a huge fan.
06:59What are those doing?
07:00Like alien, like croppings.
07:03All right, but I'm concerned about you.
07:04I'm going to tell you right now.
07:07Okay.
07:08All right, Jason.
07:09Everything's stacked against me.
07:10I'm a straight guy, in a gay man's world,
07:12and I'm just trying my best here.
07:14I mean, what the ?
07:15It's like, don't be so hard on me, man.
07:17First of all, congratulations on being the first designer
07:19to make the Wall of Fame.
07:23So now you have a tough act to follow.
07:24I know.
07:26I think that Gretchen's talented,
07:27but the thing about Gretchen is she's not creative.
07:31And have you started the top?
07:33I know I can bang the top out.
07:34All right.
07:35Less than four hours.
07:36I know.
07:37Okay, Gretchen.
07:38Go, go, go.
07:43Nicholas, talk to me.
07:44What I want to do with this challenge is,
07:45number one, how much I can accomplish,
07:47and also how innovative I can be.
07:49Excellent.
07:50The back is my favorite.
07:53I think it's beautiful.
07:54Mm-hmm.
07:55The top that Nicholas made has a striking similarity
08:00in the back to what I made yesterday.
08:02And I know that he thinks he made a lovely dress,
08:05but he ripped me off.
08:08What's this?
08:09It's this concept of a complete circle,
08:11and I'm able to drape it into, like, this form.
08:15I'm ambivalent.
08:16Only because I think that there's a sexiness to this.
08:19Yeah.
08:20Whereas this, I mean, does she become Little Red Riding Hood?
08:25Keep working.
08:26Thank you, Terry.
08:27Thank you, Nicholas.
08:28How is Peach?
08:29Lost.
08:31Absolutely lost.
08:32This and this?
08:33They look discordant.
08:35It seems like I need to start over with something.
08:37Now, do I start over with the skirt,
08:39or do I start over with the top?
08:40It's about what you would do
08:41and still stay true to who you were as a designer.
08:43The textile alone stays true to who you were as a designer.
08:45Oh, good God.
08:46It was screaming at me from the, you know, wall.
08:48Yeah, see?
08:48It's calling your name.
08:49Go, go, go.
08:50All right, I'm starting over.
08:53What do you think?
08:53This skirt is a disaster.
08:55Ooh.
08:56So, plan B.
08:59Do you think this is chic?
09:01I like the back.
09:02And you don't like the back?
09:03You need to finish that.
09:04How are you on that?
09:05Me?
09:06I don't know.
09:07I just hope I get done, man, you know?
09:09Designers, as you all know,
09:11you're each creating a design that you hope
09:14will be photographed, blown up,
09:16and placed on a billboard in New York City.
09:19Needless to say, this reward is huge.
09:23So, with this in mind,
09:25there is another element to this challenge.
09:29You know, it's going to be like,
09:31I'm going to make another dress out of your scraps.
09:33Oh, crap.
09:36Coming up on Project Marley.
09:38What do you think with that belt?
09:41What about Mom, though?
09:42He's having some.
09:43Where is he?
09:44I feel like this gift and talent occurs to me sometimes.
09:54There is another element to this challenge.
09:59Tomorrow morning, you will each have a photo shoot
10:03with a Marie Claire photographer.
10:04Yes!
10:05Each of you.
10:06Yes!
10:08You will work with the photographer and your model
10:11to capture the image that you believe best represents
10:14your look and the Marie Claire woman.
10:17Furthermore, your judges will consider the image that you capture
10:21along with your runway presentation
10:23when scoring your designs.
10:24So, use the time between now and midnight
10:27very thoughtfully and very strategically.
10:29And I am sending in your models soon.
10:38I need to do something different, like...
10:42Yeah.
10:43That would be good.
10:47That would be good-er.
10:49I like the belt.
10:50I like it.
10:52Uh...
10:53Gretchen, what do you think with that belt?
10:57No?
10:59I like with the belt.
11:01Casanova could be incredibly annoying
11:04if he wasn't so charming.
11:06I need your advice.
11:08That is not happening.
11:10By the time the clock hits midnight,
11:13I am completely defeated.
11:15I was a maniac all day.
11:17And it's done.
11:18But I've got something on the dress form,
11:21and I have decided I'm going to get a little sleep
11:25and map out a plan to at least send something
11:28down the runway tomorrow.
11:36You know, it is what it is.
11:38I have had the best time.
11:39This has been so surreal for somebody like me.
11:42Stop talking about it like you're gonna leave.
11:44Stop.
11:44My only hope is that they take more Sammy.
11:47I mean, what would be?
11:48I'm glad.
11:49You guys are gonna do that.
11:50You guys have his clothes.
11:51Well, what about Mondo?
11:52He's having stuff.
11:52He doesn't want...
11:53You don't want...
11:54Where is he?
11:55I'm really lonely,
11:56and I need to connect with somebody,
11:59and there hasn't been a connection
12:02with anybody, to tell you the truth.
12:05And, uh, I keep so many thoughts in my own head,
12:08and they're starting to eat me up.
12:11Mondo has earplugs, man.
12:13We'll see him tomorrow.
12:14Right.
12:15But are you guys...
12:16I feel like I've never been loved for just who I am
12:20and what I can give back.
12:22It's just always what I can create.
12:24Just an artist, I feel like this gift and talent
12:28is a curse to me sometimes.
12:30Congratulations on everything else.
12:33Live.
12:33Cheers.
12:37Coming up on Project Runway.
12:38Wing it.
12:40Yeah.
12:40Feels like she's got stomachache.
12:42The photo shoot is a little intimidating.
12:44It's feeling a bit weird to me.
12:45What did you tell her to do?
12:47Ah!
12:47Lighten it up a bit.
13:00So what do you think about finishing and then going to the runway?
13:03I just hope we'll have enough time to finish.
13:05Clearly I don't think I'm going home.
13:07Oh my bed looks like a disaster.
13:08I've moved in.
13:09I'm not ready to go home but I'm not ready for the runway either.
13:13Yesterday was such a stressful day.
13:15Coming into this I always told myself that I would roll with the punches.
13:19This morning when I woke up it was a clean slate and I'm going to continue to do my best
13:23and stay true to myself.
13:25Come on you guys, let's go.
13:27Here we come Parsons.
13:35Good morning designers.
13:37Good.
13:38How is everyone?
13:39Great.
13:40You should be great.
13:41I am about to send in your models.
13:43You will have two hours to send them to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room in the Garnier
13:46hair salon.
13:48Remember this is the Marie Claire photo shoot.
13:52This is your opportunity to show the judges an enhanced view of what they see on the runway.
13:57Think about that when you're using the Piper Lime accessory wall.
14:01It's about attitude.
14:02It's about your point of view as a designer.
14:04It's about the attitude of the whole look.
14:06All right?
14:08Editorial everyone.
14:09Got it?
14:11Okay.
14:13I think maybe the bangles are a bit much too.
14:15I think so.
14:16Yeah cause she's already looking a little punk you know and it's Marie Claire.
14:20Hello.
14:21Hi.
14:22Hi.
14:23Tell me.
14:23Hi so this is the dress.
14:25Or this.
14:25Since the dress is pretty strong and bold.
14:27Uh huh.
14:28Neutral lip.
14:28Maybe a little matte.
14:30Maybe just darken the eyebrows so that they're like strong.
14:35So what are we doing?
14:36So I want to do like a fishtail up in the back and then I want to do a bun
14:41on top of her
14:41head about the same area where mine is.
14:50We have what?
14:51Five minutes?
14:51The only redeeming thing I have right now is the fact that you know Ify is covered.
14:57And covered is good but she's covered with Barbie's sofa.
15:00Wow!下.
15:03Designers
15:04and models time is up. You're
15:07going to the photo shoot so follow me.
15:22What does this piece do? Is it a pocket? Oh, it's the infinity. It's the eight. If you look at
15:27it, the dress, it's an eight.
15:28I see it. Yeah. Jason's kind of creepy. So you never know if he's going to come behind you with
15:33the scissors and just like, boom.
15:35So I try to be friends with him. I'm like, yeah, I love what you're doing. Oh, I get the
15:40whole infinity thing. Yeah. It's part of my cross. It looks like the infinity symbol. It's the infinity symbol.
15:52Come on in. Hi, AJ. I'm Zanna from Marie Claire. Nice to meet you. How are you? This is Mark,
16:02our photographer.
16:02How are you? Obviously feel free to direct. Yeah. Make it work. Great.
16:08It seems like her hands are coming a little close together almost. It's like she's got stomachache.
16:12Maybe like with one leg up or something. I'm feeling really confident and comfortable. Now I'm just nervous of capturing
16:18the right shot.
16:19You can see the silhouette in her side and the back of it. I'm going with 173. Tell me a
16:24little bit about this dress.
16:25It could be styled in so many different ways and that's why I have the user-friendly safety pins. It's
16:31not working.
16:32It looks like a mistake or a hole in the dress. Jason's dress didn't really make a lot of sense
16:37to me.
16:38The entire look seemed so far away from Marie Claire. What kind of feeling are we trying to get here?
16:44Tough. Okay. Marie Claire isn't so much of a tough magazine. It's feeling a bit weird to me.
16:49Absolutely, yeah. Lighten it up a bit. Let's see what you think.
16:55I'm liking this. This one.
16:58So Jason 307.
17:02Any tiny floor is magnified by hundreds on a screen like that.
17:07But then imagine it being on a billboard as well. It's just like, it'll be glaring.
17:10The judges have to look past these little closures because I'm not prototype Jack.
17:15I can't pop things out. It's emotionally draining and physically draining.
17:22Coming up on Project Runway.
17:24Is that a walk of shame dress?
17:26Desperate housewives.
17:28What are you doing now? Are you showing us her underwear?
17:42Welcome to the runway.
17:45As you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out.
17:50There are 16 of you here and after tonight there will be 15. Or less.
17:56Your challenge was to create a look that defines the Marie Claire woman.
18:01The winning look will be featured on a billboard campaign in New York's Times Square.
18:07You also had the opportunity to work with your model on a photo shoot.
18:11And since this challenge has such a big payoff, no one will receive immunity.
18:17You had $150 in one day to put it together.
18:21Alright, let's meet the judges.
18:22First we have CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award winner Michael Kors.
18:27Hey guys.
18:28Fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine Nina Garcia.
18:31Hi everyone.
18:32And our guest judge today, editor in chief for Marie Claire Magazine Joanna Coles.
18:38Hi everyone.
18:38Hi Joanna.
18:39We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
18:42And we will also take your photos into account.
18:45One of you will be named the winner.
18:47And one of you will be out.
18:51All right, let's start the show.
18:58I am so confident in this look right now.
19:01I think she looks amazing.
19:05And she pulls off the cloak and it's like bam, there's the look.
19:10But I noticed that, you know, the judges don't really look as impressed as I look.
19:20I'm really happy with how my piece turned out.
19:21I think it's so beautiful.
19:25I definitely think they're going to see that I know what I'm doing.
19:41I think I stumbled upon something.
19:45It was impeccable the way it was sewn.
19:49She looks really badass.
19:51She's rocking out the look.
20:05I am happy with what I've created.
20:09I love the whole look together.
20:11I think it's working.
20:12I think the judges are going to like it.
20:15And I feel confident about it.
20:24When I see my dress put on the runway, my immediate thought is that it looks like Amare was impregnated
20:29by some weird alien creature.
20:31And it really, really worries me.
20:41Two hours ago, I was done.
20:43I was standing there with a naked model.
20:45Right now, I'm very pleased with what I made.
20:48A tailored to perfection little dress.
20:51I'm thinking I can hold my own here for a while.
21:03When I see my dress, I think I'm going to die because I just can't believe it is so short.
21:10It should be a wrap video.
21:13I'm just going to use my poker face.
21:15I'm not going to have any expression because I know Nina is watching me right now.
21:28I'm happy with the entire look.
21:30However, in the back of my mind, I'm still thinking you just never know who could get sent home no
21:35matter how good you think you are.
21:45Everything always translates differently on the runway.
21:48And my dress on the runway really looks fantastic.
21:50I mean, I really like my dress on the model and in person.
21:54But on the runway, it's a magnified times ten.
22:00It just beams.
22:09I felt pretty confident.
22:11The main thing that I worry about, as far as the judges are concerned, was my color choices.
22:18I feel like it came across pretty well on the runway.
22:28I am looking at the judges' faces.
22:31They're hard to read, but I feel really good.
22:33I feel really confident that I could be in the top three on this challenge.
22:37When she does her little fanning out of the sleeves, that was so fun.
22:41And I think it was really interesting for the judges to see because I don't think they were expecting it.
22:46And I think that's what will keep me in the top, is being unexpected and being interesting.
23:02I think my model looks awesome.
23:04Stunning on the runway.
23:06Like, the sleeve, amazing.
23:08She handles, like, everything very nice.
23:13But I'm a little bit concerned about the color of the top.
23:17I really don't like navy.
23:19I don't know why I decide that disturbing color.
23:32At first, I was nervous about the fit on my model because I could not work that fabric the way
23:38I wanted to work it.
23:39But when she walked down that runway, she sold it.
23:57I felt so good looking at my piece coming down the runway.
24:02Alessandra is my dream girl.
24:04And seeing how the styling all came together.
24:09And getting to look over at the judges and how they were looking at it, it was like magic.
24:22When I see the dress walk down the runway, I wasn't as nervous.
24:27I see my skirt as this fun, flirty garment.
24:31And Ian is doing a great job walking down the runway and showing the judges the balance and the energy
24:38that it has.
24:49As I watch my garment go down the runway on Milana, I think that it looks great.
24:54I'm super confident.
24:55And it's really who I am as a designer, but still keeping the challenge into consideration.
25:09Overall, I'm not worried.
25:10There's definitely a few people that deserve to be in the bottom tonight, and it's definitely not me.
25:21If I call your name, please step forward.
25:24Mondo.
25:26Peach.
25:27Nicolas.
25:28Please step forward.
25:31Jason.
25:33Valerie.
25:35Gretchen.
25:37If I have not called your name, congratulations.
25:41Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
25:45You can leave the runway.
25:50The rest of you will present the highest and the lowest scores.
25:55One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
25:58Okay, let's bring out your models.
26:12Peach, tell us about your look.
26:14I think polka dots are youthful and happy, and I was thinking polka dots for the billboard because I thought
26:20it would be eye-catching.
26:21When I think about Marie Claire, I think about a woman that is strong, powerful, fashion-forward, hip.
26:28When I look at this, I don't see any of those things.
26:31This looks like ladies at lunch.
26:33There is no sex appeal.
26:35Like an Amish cocktail dress.
26:38Oh, no.
26:39Very matronly, very cliché.
26:42Valerie, tell us about your look.
26:44I was very inspired by the Marie Claire woman, and I wanted to really embody the spirit of New York
26:49as well.
26:49So I wanted to create something that was innovative, but still simple and elegant.
26:55Kind of Carrie Bradshaw meets Samantha Jones.
26:58I think it will be beautiful in the picture.
27:00There's enough detail to make it interesting.
27:03It's sexy, yet conservative, which is hard to do.
27:06The collar is very beautiful, and it will frame a shot very nicely.
27:12Jason.
27:13I wanted to make a look that transcended from night to day, and what I started with was infinity.
27:19It's an eight here.
27:20And I think it's edgy and youthful, and I'm really happy with it.
27:24I don't know how interesting this would be on a billboard.
27:28Are the closures safety pins?
27:31Yes.
27:31And that was intentional, obviously.
27:33That was intentional.
27:33I don't think that the Marie Claire girl would wear it for day or night.
27:39At night, she would feel like she was wearing a satin bedspread.
27:44For day, everyone in the office would say, is that a walk of shame dress?
27:49You know, did you just come in?
27:51I think she looks furious that she's been put up in Times Square.
27:55And I can't believe that you would pick a photo where it's very clear that the hole in the middle
28:01is not supposed to be there.
28:02We can't see it now, so it's clearly not part of the design.
28:05After you even heard of all of that, do you still think that this is Marie Claire?
28:10I think it's me for Marie Claire.
28:12If I had the snaps in and everything, all different ways that you'd be able to wear this.
28:16What are you doing now?
28:17Are you showing us her underwear?
28:18No, no, I'm showing you what could be done, what options could be done with this.
28:22But that's the problem.
28:24It's like how it should have, could have, would have been that we can't see, you know?
28:28I understand.
28:29Gretchen, tell us about your look.
28:31I felt like it was really important to create something that would fill the page because it's a billboard.
28:38It's advertising.
28:39A woman that's as young as 22 would want to be this woman, as well as somebody way into their
28:4640s and 50s.
28:47I'm not sure if you guys noticed my day to evening look.
28:52She looks like a cool girl.
28:54I also love this photo.
28:55It's really simple, sophisticated, and I love that you can open the front and kind of reveal a little bit
29:03more if you like.
29:04The Marie Claire woman is smart, she's confident, she's modern, and she likes to have fun.
29:09These are all things that I get out of this outfit.
29:13Okay, Nicholas.
29:14The idea was to take this 27-inch diameter circle and create like this really nice shape around her.
29:22There's too many details.
29:24The seams of the skirt, plus the cape, then the asymmetry of the blouse.
29:30This is a billboard.
29:31It's supposed to be arresting, simple, but beautiful.
29:35This is very complicated.
29:37You do not really think about the big picture, and I mean literally the big picture of this challenge.
29:42Maybe we should just get rid of this cape for a second and have a look at what was pretty.
29:45With a blouse, you did a nice job.
29:47Can we see the back?
29:49Oof.
29:50The back without the cape is a little bit strange, yeah.
29:54It was my idea of like the daytime to like evening.
29:57So she has to wear the cape all day?
29:59I guess not all day.
30:01That's a rough one.
30:03Because she takes the cape off, she's naked.
30:05And if she keeps the cape on, she might be joining the religious side.
30:11Mondo, tell us about your look.
30:12I wanted to create something that was young and flirty, with a touch of whimsy, but still practical.
30:19It's really cool.
30:20And I think that this would stop you in your tracks.
30:22Also, you know, in the picture, I think it has something.
30:24I was kind of thinking about the opening credits for Marilee Tyler Moore and just how cute she was.
30:29So I just wanted her to like go on lunch and be noticed walking down the street.
30:33Well, I love that you said that Marilee Tyler Moore inspired you.
30:36Because actually, Marilee Tyler Moore is why I moved to America.
30:40In the picture, it has energy, it has bounce, it has confidence, it feels professional, but not corporate.
30:47Thank you so much.
30:48Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
30:49We're gonna have a little chat, and then we call you back.
30:52You can leave the runway.
30:59All right, let's talk about the designs that we did like.
31:02Mondo tells a story.
31:04It's definitely a different kind of eye-catcher.
31:06For a poster, I think it would be also cool.
31:09I love the exuberance of his look.
31:12You know, it had movement, which of course on a billboard is great.
31:16I like the idea that it was tweed handled in a very feminine way.
31:19It had real confidence, which I think is very Marie Claire.
31:23Yeah, and it was whimsical. It's slightly eccentric in a good way.
31:27It wasn't this posy old...
31:29Like a bad catalog, right?
31:30Right.
31:34Let's talk about Gretchen. That would look amazing on a billboard.
31:37There was something about it that I thought was very sophisticated, but it wasn't old.
31:40And that's a really tricky thing to hit.
31:43And it had no season, no age, and the photograph was fantastic.
31:49She really has a modern aesthetic.
31:54We also liked Valerie's dress.
31:57She managed to find a way to do something that was sexy without being vulgar.
32:02Mm-hmm.
32:03It's very much a cover dress.
32:05Right.
32:06Absolutely.
32:07It frames her face.
32:08All of this.
32:08It's perfect.
32:09She looked fabulous in it.
32:11She looked confident.
32:12She looked sexy.
32:13It's just one of those dresses that you love to go to.
32:16It's like a really good friend.
32:17All right, let's move on to the designers that we didn't like.
32:20Let's start with Jason.
32:22I think that any designer who has to have a disclaimer with everything that they design,
32:28you know, the clothes should really speak for themselves.
32:31The picture was terrible.
32:34We got the peekaboo belly button.
32:36So unflattering.
32:37How could he remotely think it was sexy?
32:39Has he ever spoken to a woman?
32:41I think, honestly, it was only about that figure eight.
32:44Let's talk about Nicolas.
32:45Well, I feel like he was so overly ambitious and each piece had something wrong with it.
32:51You know, I actually thought the blouse was pretty and then she turned around.
32:55Yeah, that scared me too, but I think he really tried.
32:57He just went crazy with the detailing and it didn't work.
33:02It might have been nice if the blouse did not look like the back was eaten.
33:06Well, yes.
33:06Maybe the model's too thin and she just ate her outfit.
33:09I don't know.
33:09But something definitely was a disaster here.
33:14Okay, let's talk about Peach.
33:17Desperate housewives.
33:19No, it's full Stepford Wife.
33:21When you talk about demographics of who reads the magazine,
33:24it's either way too young or way too old.
33:28Okay.
33:28The question is now how many people do we want to get rid of today?
33:33Let's bring them back out.
33:41The six of you represent the best and the worst.
33:45One of you will be named the winner.
33:47And one of you will be out.
34:08Mondo, we loved your Mary Tyler Moore reference.
34:11It made us smile and captured the spirit, the energy and confidence of your design.
34:16Good job.
34:17You're in.
34:18You can leave the runway.
34:19I like you.
34:23Gretchen, your design was urban, seasonless, modern and fun.
34:28Your photograph showed the potential of your design representing Marie Claire on a big billboard.
34:35Valerie, your red dress was flirty and fun but yet sophisticated.
34:40It embodied the Marie Claire woman.
34:42The combination of dress, styling and photo worked and made your dress memorable.
34:49Gretchen.
34:52Congratulations.
34:53You're once again the winner of this challenge.
34:56So much.
34:58Thank you very much.
34:59You can leave the runway.
35:02I felt really grateful and really prideful.
35:06Hey!
35:08Can you win?
35:10I have won two challenges and I've set a bar that people maybe weren't expecting.
35:17Everything is going to be huge.
35:19Literally.
35:20I'm stoked about the billboard.
35:22I think that's awesome.
35:23All I know is it's going to be in Times Square.
35:26Yeah.
35:27Awesome.
35:28I think Gretchen is one of the best designers in the room.
35:31She's definitely my competition.
35:32I just want you all to know that like I really appreciate the support.
35:37I'm so proud of you Gretchen.
35:40I really am.
35:42But I thought Valerie should have win.
35:45Valerie.
35:47You're in.
35:47You can leave the runway.
35:53Nicolas, Peach and Jason, we had major problems with your looks.
36:01Jason, we were hoping to see something different from you this week.
36:04Something more impressive.
36:07But again, we got an unfinished mess with lots of excuses from you.
36:14Peach, we were split whether your dress was too junior or to country club matronly.
36:20But the bad news is, either way, we did not like it.
36:25Nicolas, you tried to do way too many things with your design.
36:29Unfortunately, the blouse, skirt and cape failed.
36:36Peach, you're safe for today.
36:40You can leave the runway.
36:41I heard you all.
36:46Peach!
36:46Are you here?
36:47Come on.
36:52I'm glad I knew that you weren't going to be there.
36:54Were you scared?
36:55I knew so much.
36:58Jason.
37:07I'm sorry, you're out.
37:20I came here and I gave it my best and did everything I could.
37:24Hey guys, nice to come out.
37:27Like, sit down for real.
37:28No, no, I really can't, so I gotta go.
37:31You can't just, like, walk the , you have to wait, so...
37:34No, I don't have to wait for anything else.
37:36Okay.
37:37Good luck, guys.
37:38I'm holding my head up high.
37:40I don't think it was a good depiction of my design aesthetic or style, but, um, you know, it's a
37:46challenge.
37:46I knew it would be from the start.
37:48After his elimination, I didn't have that moment to say, ball chance.
37:58Nicholas.
38:03I'm sorry, you're out, too.
38:08Mirazi, Nicholas.
38:10All the best to you.
38:17I didn't think I was gonna go home today.
38:20I really didn't.
38:21I'm just really sad.
38:23I, like, I just feel kind of disappointed in myself a little bit.
38:33I have to go home.
38:38Come here.
38:39Come here, come here, come here, come here, come here.
38:44Hey, no, no, no, no.
38:46No, no, no, no, you know, you know how cool it is that you made it here?
38:49And you have really good ideas.
38:52That was a rough runway.
38:55We're gonna miss you, I feel sick about this.
38:58We will see more from Nicholas, but it will be after the show.
39:04You had a good idea, buddy.
39:05Yeah, I've been doing more.
39:07Okay.
39:07You're so proud of yourself.
39:08I'm just gonna miss being here, and it's been really tiring and hard, and it's really tough.
39:13But it's really worth it even if you're only here a short time like I was
39:19I'm lucky enough to go to the Marie Claire photo shoot for the billboard when I got there the model
39:26was
39:31Thank you
39:33James Macari the photographer you could tell that he was just gonna knock it out
39:43I think any fashion designer. That's a you know a girl like me coming from nothing
39:49That's what you dream of I'm experiencing my dreams coming true
39:55And it made me feel like this isn't the last time I'll be able to feel this way, which was
40:00really cool
