02:11And, unexpectedly, I became overcome with inspiration.

02:19And, guys, I can tell you, Tim is a great example of when you're pushed out of your comfort zone.

04:14So we have our teams, and now you will have time to get a closer look at the uniforms and the armor and to sketch.

29:49allie chelsea tell us about your look and your inspiration okay so our inspiration was kind of like
30:01fencing in the future and so this is a fencing gladiator chelsea drafted the headpiece and the top
30:08and then i drafted the pants she made them and made the sleeves so it was a real collaboration yeah
30:15i love your look the two of you guys in your sweet little like fit and flare and like ship dress next
30:24to your gladiator it's like a peek inside your imagination you guys really achieved what an avant-garde
30:32challenge should be about i'm so proud of both of you thank you i like the texture between the pants and
30:40leather i mean it is avant-garde and it's still sexy too yeah yeah i know you used all black and
30:47i'm loving it because you had this amazing shape i imagine in the future going into a fencing studio
30:54and seeing all the women and men in these outfits that would be amazing like i would just want to be
30:59there every day and fence in this outfit i love it right thank you ali thank you chelsea thank you
31:05hawa akai tell us about your look and your inspiration so we were inspired by medieval armor
31:12and also fencing the collar is supposed to represent a helmet the shirt with the straps for the arms is
31:19supposed to represent blood because back in the day they would have white because they wanted to see
31:24the blood when they got hit and who did what in this look i did the skirt the bottom piece and how i did
31:31the top piece i definitely think that you have a lot of problems with the construction but i think
31:36the straps on her arms and now hearing the story of that i think is actually really beautiful and very
31:42interesting yeah when you break it down for us it does definitely have all that meaning that said
31:49the execution is messy i mean how were you guys as a team we i guess could say split up and like you had
31:57a bit of an argument and then went to different rooms no i said i was gonna work on the shirt he
32:01was gonna work on the skirt that was our set plan in the first place no actually our set plan was
32:05that i was gonna do the collar and i was gonna do the skirt well the thing is the skirt did take a
32:10little while to finish that's why i just decided to work on the collar i think we get it
32:17i know how hard it is to work in teams but in the fashion world you never ever work alone your
32:22communication throughout this project wasn't great i see like several different pieces it still has to
32:29be an all-inclusive look so if you don't communicate one of you is going to go home i know chris renee
32:37tell us about your look and your inspiration okay so our inspiration was terracotta soldiers
32:42and then the fencing of course and so my key part was kind of the body suit i want to show the most
32:48important um organ which is the heart i did the coat which is reminiscent of armor on the back
32:54there's a second heart to almost mirror the one in the front i am absolutely obsessed with this jacket
32:59i love the hood on it the problem here is the jumpsuit looks a bit flat compared to how lush the
33:06fabric on the jacket looks do you want to take off the coat so we can see the bodysuit
33:12i just have a hard time with bodysuits like this because i don't think that that's where fashion is
33:16going anymore to me it feels a little dated i just think as a whole it wasn't my avant-garde i think
33:24what's throwing me off is a bit the color it does read to me a little bit costumey i think it's too safe
33:32for you guys thank you molly tyler tell us about your look and your inspiration we created a avant-garde
33:42coat and pant set and we were inspired by the structure and power represented in the fencing suit
33:49and then the neckline represents the mask it's a backwards coat basically yeah pretty much who did
33:54what in terms of this look for the most part the coat is mine the pants are hers if this look is the
34:00result of your very first collaboration you guys should be designing together as a team for life
34:06your look was bold innovative you guys really knocked it out of the park i just love the wide
34:13legged pants so much thank you so much as they say you're so in vogue with them this is one of those
34:18pieces that could be a historical archive in a show one day in a museum thank you that means a lot
34:24it really looked like you guys worked seamlessly together we worked unbelievably well together i think
34:30we've enjoyed talking to all of you we're going to take a closer look at your designs talk amongst
34:35ourselves and then we'll bring you back to the runway thank you hi hi how fabulous was that show
34:48unbelievable i think it was the strongest avant-garde work in the whole history of project runway amazing
34:54shall we begin with allah wearing tyler and molly oh it's so cool i also love how the backwards
35:02shape of it is very well represented without it feeling wrong i feel like this should be on the
35:09runway in new york fashion week like it's already there it's just so nice to see like young designers
35:14create something so forward-thinking y'all is wearing chelsea and ally and it looks so expensive and
35:23interesting it's so remarkable to me that those two little sweet fairies made something that is
35:29so powerful and hardcore i think this is kind of what an avant-garde challenge is all about
35:36karina wearing hawa and akai was it as much as a struggle as it we perceived yes from the both of them
35:45wasn't going well who do you think struggled more they both did let me tell you though this is rough yeah
35:53the ahmeds are kind of what saves this 100 if the top was created by hawa and the bottom by akai
36:02the result is like a mash-up that doesn't make sense it is that is so much better oh my god hannah
36:10you just saved it oh my god we have g wearing renee and chris i just think now that i see this painting
36:20up close it's tacky it just doesn't feel fashion forward i love the coat red and black is so
36:28medieval times i feel like they could have gone even more extreme with it to make it cooler to me
36:33it just seems like it would be on a costume rack or something judges thank you so much great job guys
36:41i'm not ready to get rid of renee or chris i feel like to me it's between a kai and hawai i want to keep
36:46a kai i know but that ugly skirt what are we gonna do what was it about the top that was so
36:51interesting hawai she's like designing toys not designing clothes she's playing designer for a kai
36:58i believe he has every best intention and every desire to do it i just don't know if he can yet
