01:02I want to see the passion in your fashion.
01:05Just try to ignore me.
01:06Who will be in, who will be out?
01:09I'm in.
01:10They're out.
01:11I don't think so.
01:12For these 12 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:24My name's Anne Brunet.
01:25I'm 27 years old and I'm a women's ready-to-wear designer based in Melbourne.
01:29My fashion style is sexy, confident, glamorous.
01:32I love bling.
01:33I love colour.
01:34I love colour.
01:35My fashion motto is, if it feels good, do it.
01:38If you want to wear a fur coat to breakfast, wear your fur coat to breakfast, honey.
01:42My name's Michael Finch.
01:43My name's Michael Finch.
01:45I'm 23 and I'm from Mackay in Queensland.
01:48I'm not a designer for trends.
01:51I love to make a woman feel incredible and light up from within.
01:56I'm my own person.
01:57I'm very comfortable in my own skin.
01:59I'm not so much stubborn but, um, I'm not a prick.
02:03I'm not a prick.
02:06Um, yeah.
02:10My name's Anthony Capon.
02:11I'm 25 years old.
02:12I'm a women's wear designer and I'm from Melbourne.
02:15The secret weapon I have is my talent.
02:18That's not really secret, actually.
02:20Number two.
02:21What's your name?
02:22My name is Michael.
02:23Anthony.
02:24Anthony.
02:25Good to meet you, Anthony.
02:26I think people are confronted by my look.
02:28My look is very androgynous.
02:29I'm actually a boy.
02:30Hi.
02:31How you doing?
02:32Good.
02:33How are you?

02:36I'm a contemporary designer from Sydney.
02:38Good to meet you, William.
02:39Anthony.
02:40My current position is a pattern maker working at Lisa Ho.
02:43What I love about being a fashion designer is that you're always creating something new
02:48and it's quite soulful.
02:49So it's us three.
02:50Sit.
02:51We're the first three.
02:52First three.
02:53Three guys.
02:54Me.
02:55Right.
02:57My name is Yopi Stafuric.
02:59I'm 36 and I'm a costume designer from Queensland.

03:09Yopi.
03:10Yopi, yeah.
03:11Nice to meet you.

03:16Yeah, I'm fine.
03:17I'm good.
03:18They're a part of me.
03:19I got polio when I was a baby.
03:20I don't sulk about it.
03:21Move on, move forward, deal with it and just get on with your life.
03:23This is amazing.
03:24Isn't it awesome?

03:30Hello.
03:31Hey.
03:32My name is Ivana Stupicic.

03:36Nice to meet you.
03:38I studied fashion in Milan and I got a university degree from Politecnico di Milano.
03:43My style, I would probably describe it as rock chic.
03:46Fashion for me is like a lifestyle.
03:49It's not a choice.
03:50It's just how I live.
03:52You so do hats.
03:53Oh, I love hats.
03:54I do feathers with everything.
03:56It's actually quite...
03:57Oh my God.
03:58My name is Kellyanne Russell.
03:59I am 31 years of age.
04:01Being a bigger girl has really shaped the way I look at the world.
04:04I mean, I don't believe that you need to be a certain size or a certain shape to feel sexy.
04:09My butt is just the price I have to pay for having such great tits.
04:14Really.
04:15Sorry.
04:16Am I allowed to say that?
04:19Sorry.
04:20I'm Mark Neighbour.
04:21I'm 42.
04:22I'm an all-round designer and I'm from Brisbane.
04:24I do lots of freelance work here at home in my little workroom.
04:28I have an Associate Diploma in Fashion Design and I also have a Masters in Fashion Research.
04:34This is our bathroom.
04:36Four fashion people in my bathroom.
04:43Hello.
04:44Hello.
04:45My name's Claudia Charbo.
04:46I'm 40 years of age.
04:47I design lingerie and swimwear.
04:49Do I wear the lingerie I make?
04:51Absolutely.
04:52Look hot in it.
04:53I don't know if you guys know.
04:55I've got my own label.
04:56CC Juice.
04:57Young designers biting at my heels.
04:59Good luck with that.
05:00Do lingerie as well.
05:02They're going to be in for some real rude experiences.
05:09I'm Jason Chacuti.
05:11I'm 29 and I'm from North Queensland.
05:14Hi.
05:15Another Queenslander?
05:16Yes.
05:17Oh my God, they're taking over.
05:18I am a fashion designer and I design for my own label.
05:22My fashion style is for the confident woman who likes to be noticed.
05:28What is going to separate me from the other designers
05:31is the way I put clothes together?
05:36Right, so it's not a drag queen.
05:37We thought the last one might be.
05:39Oh, sorry to disappoint.
05:41I'm Ryan Whelan.
05:42I'm 27 years old.
05:43I'm a made to measure specialist and I live here in Melbourne.
05:46I'm a bit of a jack of all trades.
05:48Literally, I dressed a horse.
05:50Was a horse making gale or was it a natural horse?
05:52I describe myself as an old man trapped in a young man's body
05:56because I love everything old school.
05:58Like the old English gentleman.
06:00My personal fear about fashion is LGGL.
06:04Looking good to get laid.
06:06One more.
06:07Hello, what's your name?
06:09I'm Lauren Vieira.
06:10I'm 24.
06:11I'm from Sydney.
06:12Good boy, perfect.
06:13Apart from being an ambitious fashion designer,
06:15I'm also a cheerleader.
06:17I may be one of the youngest in the competition,
06:20but don't underestimate me.
06:21I've won Student Designer of the Year.
06:24I've got a young, fresh, energetic approach to fashion.
06:27If fashion design was an Olympic sport,
06:29I'd definitely try to win the gold.
06:31You don't want to go home with the silver.
06:36Was this here before?
06:37What is that?
06:38Welcome, designers.
06:40We hope you enjoy the beautiful Watermark townhomes
06:42at Waterfront City Docklands,
06:44your home for the next few weeks.
06:45Please join us for a welcome drink at Crown Towers
06:47to celebrate your arrival.
06:49Here we are.
06:50Christy and Henry.
06:51Let's do it.
06:52Let's do it.
06:53Finally going to meet Christy and Henry.
06:55Alright, let's go.
06:56Red Champagne.
06:57Love it.
07:08We're drinking champagne
07:09and there was a lot of eyeballing
07:10and checking each other out.
07:11I mean, we are fashion designers
07:13and that's what we do.
07:14Judge.
07:15How are you?
07:16How are you?
07:17Michael came up to me
07:18and I looked at his hair
07:19and his GHG curls were better than mine.
07:21So, I was instantly jealous of him.
07:24I love my hair.
07:25It has its own personality.
07:30So, we're all sitting around
07:31sipping our fabulous champagne
07:33and then...
07:36Christy and Henry appeared.
07:37Hi.
07:38Welcome to Project Runway Australia.
07:40I thought, wow, how beautiful is she?
07:45And she's got killer legs.
07:47Firstly, I'd like to congratulate all of you
07:50for making it this far.
07:52The 12 of you are.
07:53The 12 of you are some of the most exciting
07:55up-and-coming designers in the country right now.
07:58And we believe that each of you has what it takes
08:01to win this competition
08:02and become the next big thing in Australian fashion.
08:07Standing beside me is a man who is going to be with you
08:10every step of the way.
08:11New York-based evening and bridal wear designer,
08:15Henry Roth.
08:18Who, of course, is your fabulous mentor.
08:20It was so exciting to meet Henry.
08:22He's obviously a huge personality
08:24and just oozed Henry.
08:26Thank you and welcome, designers.
08:28It's fantastic to see you.
08:30This is an opportunity of a lifetime.
08:32It does not get better than this.
08:35We want you to show us what you're worth as designers.
08:38And how are you going to do it?
08:40We want to see the passion in your fashion.
08:43I wish you good luck.
08:47Look around, designers.
08:49This cocktail party isn't quite what it seems.
08:55This competition starts right here, right now.
09:02Oh, my God. Anxiety attack.
09:04Because the materials for your first challenge
09:06are right in front of you.
09:08What?
09:10Everything you see is dressed, draped and furnished
09:13with the finest materials courtesy of Rathdown Fabrics.
09:16Using these materials, you will need to create
09:19a glamorous evening dress ready for the red carpet.
09:22And your creation will have to be beautifully designed,
09:25constructed and finished.
09:27But most importantly, it must express who you are as a designer.
09:31I had spotted fabric that I'd like sitting underneath
09:34the cake tray of meringues, so I was ready to pounce.
09:37When Christy says go, you will have just three minutes
09:40to collect as many fabrics as you can
09:43and take them to the White House Institute of Design.
09:48Design.
09:49So, designers, are you ready?
09:51Yes.
09:52Are you set?
09:54Go!
09:55Go!
09:56Go!
09:57Whoa!
09:58It was just bedlam.
10:00There was, like, yelling and screaming.
10:03And then Sneaky Ryan comes in and starts, like, stealing my braid.
10:06And I'm like, f*** off.
10:07I wasn't even thinking about what I was going to make.
10:08I was just grabbing fabrics.
10:09What am I going to do with pink sequins?
10:12There were two pieces of a gold fabric
10:14and there was also a really pretty blue that I could use.
10:17Time's up, everybody grab your things
10:19and follow me to the White House.
10:20Let's go!
10:21Woo!
10:22Woo!
10:23Woo!
10:24Woo!
10:25Woo!
10:26Woo!
10:27Woo!
10:28Woo!
10:29Woo!
10:30Woo!
10:31Woo!
10:32Woo!
10:33Woo!
10:34Woo!
10:35Woo!
10:36Woo!
10:37Woo!
10:38Woo!
10:39Welcome, designers.
10:40Yay!
10:41All right!
10:42Where am I?
10:43Where am I?
10:44Where am I?
10:45This is the workroom where the magic happens.
10:48We all walked into the workroom for the very first time
10:50and everyone was excited to get started on our very first challenge.
10:54So welcome and let's get shopping.
10:56We haven't got much time, boys and girls.
10:58It was exciting to see our big workspace.
11:01It looked great.
11:02So yeah, ready to jump straight into it.
11:04So I just want to remind you that your challenge today is to create a gorgeous, glamorous evening
11:11gown that is going to be red carpet worthy and also make sure that the dress itself is
11:17a pure reflection of who you are as designers.
11:20You have only one hour tonight to start working on your dress and nine hours tomorrow to complete
11:28your look.
11:29So if I were you, I'd get cracking.
11:30Good luck.
11:31Thanks, Henry.
11:32Thanks.
11:33Ooh la la.
11:35The design challenge was a gown that represents us.
11:40I nodded out a couple of ideas in my head and started doing a brief sketch and then
11:45just started cutting.
11:47I just sat down and started drawing and really thinking about what I wanted to show about
11:53me as a designer.
11:54I sort of thought who my muse would be for my outfit and I got a cape blanchette.
12:00Balua.
12:01I see Balua.
12:02And I started draping straight away on my fabric.
12:04I've created lots of red carpet gowns and I really want to prove myself in this first
12:10challenge and present a great dress to the judges.
12:13Are you like D's evening?
12:15What are you doing there?
12:16I'm cutting the bottom of the border and twisting it around and meeting them up so it
12:22makes a bit of a B.
12:24I was checking out Jason and he seemed to be the furthest ahead of everyone.
12:29I barely cut out my dress and he was already, you know, almost finished draping and I was
12:33like wow, maybe I'm going a bit slow.
12:38I was actually in my own little bubble and thinking about my design and Henry walks in.
12:43Alright designers, according to my watch you have only 30 minutes left to the end of
12:49today's time for your challenge.
12:51I've got a surprise for you.
12:53Let me show you what we've got going on.
12:59Next, on Project Runway Australia.
13:02Ah, everyone's going crazy.
13:05Shit!
13:06Shit!
13:07I don't get it.
13:08I may well be screwed.
13:15Alright designers, I've got a surprise for you.
13:17Let me show you what we've got going on.
13:19You're models!
13:20Normally you would choose the models that you would like to represent your look but this
13:32time the models are going to choose who they want to work with.
13:36I'm going to give you five minutes to impress.
13:39Go for it!
13:40Look at me!
13:41When the models were told that they would be choosing the designer, I was like oh god,
13:46I hate when things are out of my control so I'm totally freaking out because a model makes
13:50an outfit.
13:51Anthony, how are you?
13:52They look beautiful.
13:53I like it!
13:54You like that?
13:55I'm hoping that there's a model in the room that loves my designs and loves my personality
14:00and that will pick me.
14:02Models, designers, your time's up.
14:04Hopefully the designers have impressed.
14:07First model, Jess.
14:08This is a really hard decision but I'm going to go with Kellyanne.
14:11Kellyanne!
14:12Amber!
14:13Jason, I've decided on Ivana.
14:16I've decided on William.
14:17William!
14:18The models were picking other designers and they weren't picking me.
14:23I'm going to go with Ryan.
14:24Ryan!
14:25I thought okay, next one, she's mine.
14:28Next one, she's mine.
14:30And it just didn't happen.
14:32I'll go with Claudia.
14:33Claudia!
14:34Excellent!
14:35That leaves you Yasmin with Mark.
14:37As it turns out, my model is really beautiful.
14:42She's young.
14:43She's fresh.
14:44I think I can make it work.
14:46Now ladies, you've all made your choice on the designers that you're going to work with.
14:51Designers, you have only a few minutes left to take measurements of your models.
14:55Let's get going.
14:56There's not much time to go.
14:58When Audna came to my table, I instantly got her measurements.
15:01Give me the tape measure.
15:02I need everything.
15:03Wrote them all down.
15:04Henry called.
15:05Time's up.
15:06This is your last chance for a bit of an air kissy kissy.
15:08And models, if you'd like to leave the work room right now.
15:11Well designers, it's time for you to down your tools.
15:14Because for today, your time is up.
15:17It's the end of the day and we're walking out.
15:19And I'd have to say I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.
15:22I have no idea still what I'm going to do with my design.
15:33Day two of the challenge, I am feeling a bit nervous because I didn't get a good night's sleep.
15:37I was up all night thinking about things.
15:40I was like, if I'm not going to be able to sew, at least you've got to look good.
15:44So I did my hair.
15:45Awesome.
15:46You've got your sewing pants on.
15:47Get me down again.
15:48Go on.
15:49Go on.
15:50Go on.
15:51Go on.
15:52Go on.
15:53Go on.
15:54Go on.
15:55Go on.
15:56Go on.
15:57Go on.
15:58Go on.
15:59Go on.
16:00Here we go.
16:01When we arrived at the White House, morning of day two, I just wanted to get stuck into sewing.
16:06Last minute change of design.
16:10The first thing I did when I got into the workroom today was redraw my sketch since I decided to change it overnight.
16:16And pattern make it.
16:18Get that pattern done as quick as I can so I don't waste time and can sew it in time.
16:23Just throw it.
16:24Just chuck it.
16:25We've only got nine hours.
16:26Don't worry about the stuff.
16:27I'm confident with my design.
16:28Now it's just a case of getting down and getting it made.
16:33Your girls are hanging out.
16:35Hello designers, how are we all doing?
16:45Yeah.
16:46When Henry walked in, we knew it was make or break time.
16:50His advice is always taken seriously.
16:54We were all listening.
16:55I am feeling the tension in the air.
16:58You could crack it with a whip, but that's good.
17:00Because that means there's creativity going down.
17:02Shit scared.
17:03Hey Ryan, how are you doing buddy?
17:06Who are you as a designer?
17:07Love things that are timeless, that are a bit old school.
17:10I'd like to believe that I have a slightly timeless aesthetic where I'm drawing on these timeless historical aspects and kind of reinvigorating them.
17:20Very interesting dress.
17:21Good luck to you.
17:22Holy moly, that is steaming hot.
17:25Steaming hot.
17:26I love asymmetrical contemporary sort of stuff.
17:29I'm loving you already.
17:30How is this reflecting who you are as a designer?
17:33I like things a bit different.
17:34My style as a designer would probably be seen as avant-garde.
17:37I like playing with different fabrics, textures and different silhouettes.
17:42The way this is draped is just a piece of art.
17:45And that's sort of for me, I look at fashion as art.
17:48I mean...
17:49Well you've certainly got that down.
17:50You've got me stumped for one.
17:51It's a beautiful piece of art.
17:53Hello William.
17:54What is this just saying about you as a designer?
17:57It is saying that I'm quite willing to put it out there.
18:03Yeah.
18:04I would say you're putting it out there.
18:06This is a flourish of romance.
18:07I'd like to think of myself as a contemporary designer, avant-garde.
18:11I like to look forward and create something new.
18:15This is what I think of.
18:16This is what's concerning me.
18:17I think the construction of the bodice needs to be tightened and more solid.
18:22Lining's not enough.
18:23He wanted me to really stiffen up the bodice, which if I totally disagreed with Henry then I wouldn't do it.
18:28It's not my style just to do something because...
18:31But I thought it's not going to hurt me to do it.
18:33I've got the time.
18:34I think you could have a very interesting frock.
18:36Jason.
18:37Hi Henry.
18:38How are you?
18:39With a waistcoat like that, I couldn't wait to meet you.
18:42Okay.
18:43How this reflects in my frock is I wanted to create something that's got an incredible walk and a movement that is sexy and sensual.
18:56What I'm concerned about right here and now is the way this is draping at the moment, if you look at the front for me, it's matronly.
19:04It's falling almost like too much of an A-line.
19:07You might want to consider how you drake this.
19:10Yes.
19:11And all of a sudden we've got sexy rather than soggy porridge.
19:17Yes.
19:18You're on the right track.
19:20Remember what I've said.
19:21I can't wait to see how this turns out.
19:23Okay.
19:24I'm excited for you.
19:26Good luck to you.
19:27All the best buddy.
19:29I think Jason's design using stretch lycra for red carpet is a massive risk.
19:36Hello Mark.
19:37How are you?
19:38What's he saying about you as a designer?
19:40I like the idea that somebody would be able to get my garments and wear them in 50 years time.
19:46My dress was influenced by 1930s court dress that was demure but had a certain sexiness about it.
19:56I get it.
19:57I get it.
19:58I don't get it.
19:59That's all I'm saying.
20:00And that's just a visual thing.
20:02Yeah.
20:03You're taking quite a risk in being quite clean and dramatic.
20:06That's who you are.
20:07Go for it.
20:08But the ribbon's killing me.
20:09I'll be honest with you, the ribbon.
20:10Sure.
20:11Are you feeling the ribbon?
20:12Well, I was hoping that maybe a little bit of Saint Laurent, sort of, you know, his version of the 30s.
20:18Look, I could be wrong and I'm not the judges but there's something about that that's setting me off the wrong side of the scale.
20:24This is like pure ribbon, isn't it?
20:26Yeah, it is, yes.
20:27That's why it's not working.
20:28I think you need to use fabric.
20:29I think that maybe if you have something that you make a bit more contemporary, take that 30s feel.
20:34Give it a little bit more zoom.
20:35This is interesting.
20:36I didn't love it when I saw it.
20:38I think it has potential.
20:39Yeah.
20:40Great.
20:41You said 1930.
20:42I really am.
20:43Good luck.
20:44Great.
20:46Thanks.
20:47Maybe in my future designs, I might not be so keen to convince myself that I'm the new Yves Saint Laurent and might steer away from bows.
20:58Amber.
20:59All right.
21:00Tell me what you're trying to create.
21:02It's saying that she's sexy and confident.
21:06There's elements here that I'm really very close to my heart, such as bling.
21:10And also, you know, pink is a good color for me.
21:12So, yeah, these are sort of the elements that I've chosen.
21:15So, is this the entire look?
21:17No.
21:18God, no.
21:19It's going to be replicated throughout the entire dress, from head to toe.
21:22Ah, so you're going to have it criss-crossed over.
21:24Criss-crossed at random.
21:25Henry kind of took a few minutes to try and understand what I was doing.
21:28I guess the bandage dress is probably a bit more fashion forward than what he's used to.
21:34Here's what I would say to you.
21:36I think the concept can be fine as long as you execute it well.
21:39When you're draping, make sure that you're cutting into the bodice in a flattering way.
21:44Do you think this is going to look amazing?
21:46Do you think it's going to look-
21:47It's going to look spectacular.
21:48Yeah.
21:49This will be a knockout.
21:50Good luck for the runway.
21:51Thanks very much.
21:52No problem.
21:55All right, designers.
21:56Keep your energy levels high.
21:58Keep your enthusiasm up.
22:00And you're going to show us all what you're made of.
22:02I'm initially incredibly impressed.
22:04Good luck to you all.
22:05I'll see you later on.
22:06Bye Henry.
22:07Bye.
22:08Lovely Henry.
22:14It's either going to look shithot or shithouse.
22:25Henry thinks my dress looks matronly.
22:28So I'm going to weave ribbon through and pull the garment in in certain areas.
22:33Just to make it a little bit more sexy.
22:35I think when I'm finished this dress, it's really going to pop.
22:40I don't know what the judges are really going to think about Jason's.
22:43He's not braiding while he's working.
22:45He's just sewing.
22:46Sewing.
22:47Sewing.
22:48He just didn't stop working and kept adding and adding and adding.
22:51It's going to be a showstopper.
22:53Which show I'm not sure, but it will be a showstopper.
22:56It's just a little bit of a cut.
22:57Oh, that's fantastic.
22:58I love it.
23:00With all of Jason's lace and feathers and lycra and stretch and sequins and ribbon.
23:06It looks great in here.
23:11Oh, my God.
23:15It's an hour to go, guys.
23:20How are you guys going for time?
23:21I'm fucked.
23:22I'm thinking, oh, my God.
23:24Am I going to get this in time?
23:26Nah.
23:27Shit.
23:28Shit.
23:29Everyone's going crazy.
23:31Anything in particular I'm stressing about.
23:34Everything.
23:39Hello, hello, designers.
23:41I'm afraid to tell you your time is now up.
23:45End of day two, I'm a bit so-so about my outfit.
23:48I'm not sure if it's going to meet the brief given to us.
23:52So, fingers crossed.
23:54Everybody, please, down your tools.
23:56Stop working whatever you're doing.
23:58Yopi, please.
23:59And everybody out of the work room right now.
24:02Let's go, peeps.
24:06I've got a lot of work to do in the morning.
24:08And the thing is, we don't know how much time we've got.
24:11If it's three hours, I'm sure I'll be fine.
24:14If it's half an hour, I may well be screwed.
24:20Another glamorous day in fashion.
24:23Next, on Project Runway Australia.
24:26You've got ten more minutes to go.
24:28Go.
24:29Stressed.
24:30Stressed.
24:31Uh-oh.
24:32At this stage, I'm just like, maybe I'll just go home now.
24:35Will?
24:36Wake up.
24:37It's runaway day.
24:38Waking up this morning, I was really concerned that I wasn't going to get the work done that I needed to.
24:51I wonder if it's going to go home today.
24:54Not me.
24:56I'm feeling a little anxious and nervous about seeing my garment on the catwalk for the first time.
25:02Morning.
25:03This competition means everything to me.
25:05Today is going to be pretty interesting.
25:06It'll either go one or two ways.
25:08It'll be awesome, it'll fit straight away, or I could have another six hours of work ahead of me.
25:14To be the first one to be eliminated would be awful.
25:18I'm excited.
25:19I'm scared.
25:20I'm scared.
25:21I'm scared.
25:22We arrive at the White House and I feel like I'm going to go absolutely crazy.
25:31The workroom this morning was hell for leather.
25:35Everyone was sewing like there was no tomorrow.
25:39We're all I'm picking now.
25:41Frantic.
25:44Good morning, designers.
25:46Good morning.
25:47You now have exactly two hours to complete your whole look.
25:50I'd like you all to take advantage of the Gregory Ladner accessories and the Andrea Yon shoes.
25:56In a few moments, I'm going to be sending your models in
25:59and you'll have to take them through the Max Factor make-up and the Trissame hair salon
26:05to give them the complete look.
26:07So good luck and get sewing and I want to see the passion in your fashion.
26:12See you later.
26:13If you want to just start taking your models.
26:17Wow.
26:20Beautiful.
26:21See that?
26:22When I got on her in my dress, it was all sweet.
26:24It fitted perfectly, boobs were in, looked gorgeous.
26:29She was super tall, which is super fabulous.
26:31I'd say today is do or die day for me because I really don't want to get cut.
26:37Stressed.
26:39Stressed.
26:40When my model came in, I still had to do more work on the back of the dress.
26:44There's no zip.
26:46I'm hoping that in my panicked adrenaline fuel state that I'll get everything done that I need to.
26:58We have two hours to finish our design and I am quietly confident.
27:08Perm off to the side.
27:09It's 80s.
27:10No problem.
27:11So yeah, just like a few hands, soft girls.
27:14Lift the hair at the back and make it look.
27:16I want the just been fucked up kind of thing.
27:18Beautiful.
27:19Thank you very much.
27:20I think like sirens.
27:24We want like, you know, big smokey eyes, maybe a rouge and then just like a nude lip.
27:29It's very pretty.
27:30Young.
27:31Fresh.
27:32Pretty young.
27:33Yeah.
27:34Okay, that's good.
27:35Okay, thank you.
27:36Okay.
27:37I'm just finishing the hemline of the dress.
27:41So I've just got some small little details to complete and she'll be ready for the catwalk.
27:47Jason's still putting more things on his dress.
27:50Stop putting more things on.
27:52I looked over at Jason's model and all I saw was a lot of hair, way too much going on.
28:00I don't think I'm going to be the one to go home today.
28:03I'm quite confident that it's to the level that will get me through.
28:08Designers, you've got ten more minutes to go.
28:12Ten minutes to go, I was pretty much finished.
28:15I made sure she was going to look fabulous on the catwalk because I don't want to just
28:19love your model on my catwalk.
28:21Put your hands on here and push.
28:23I am proud of what I did because I wouldn't do something if I didn't like it.
28:26I'll always put 100% of myself in.
28:29Done that and we're ready.
28:32It was just a huge relief knowing that this dress had actually happened and looked pretty
28:37amazing.
28:38Stand and wait now.
28:41I was fitting my model and the zipper broke.
28:45Oh my God, Georgia, the zip is not working.
28:48Uh oh.
28:49At this stage, I'm just like, maybe I'll just go home now.
28:52The zipper's burnt, I'm sewing it.
28:54I'm thinking right now, I am going to get crucified on that runway.
28:58Alright designers, your time is up.
29:01Can you put down all tools?
29:03Amber, that means you darling.
29:06Good luck and best wishes.
29:08And now, let's off to the runway.
29:10Let's go boys and girls.
29:12Work that frog.
29:14Off to the runway.
29:16Next, on Project Runway Australia.
29:19It looked a little bit like gumboots.
29:23No.
29:24It reminds me of a Logies red carpet in 1987.
29:29Hello designers.
29:34Hi.
29:35Hi Christy.
29:36Welcome to the runway.
29:39As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, the next day you're out.
29:44There are twelve of you now, but only three of you will make it to the finale.
29:49Where one of you will be named the winner of Project Runway Australia.
29:54That person will receive a six page fashion spread in Madison Magazine.
29:58A 2009 Holden cruise.
30:01And a $100,000 opportunity to showcase their own collection at the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.
30:08Courtesy of Rosemount.
30:10For your first challenge, we asked you to create a glamorous evening gown.
30:14Worthy of the red carpet, that expresses who you are as a designer.
30:19Let's meet the judges.
30:22First up, we have leading Australian designer, Jason Brunston.
30:26Hi designers.
30:27Hi Jason.
30:28Next, we have Sarah Gale.
30:30One of Australia's top fashion buyers.
30:32Hi everyone.
30:33Hi Sarah.
30:35And last but not least, our guest judge.
30:38Internationally renowned designer, Nicola Fanetti.
30:41How are you?
30:42Hello.
30:43We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
30:46The designer with the highest score will be the winner.
30:50And one of you, will be out.
30:55Let the show begin.
30:57Odna looked beautiful.
31:02My design represents me in that it was flowing, sparkled where it needed to.
31:09It looked incredible.
31:10I was wrapped.
31:11I was really happy.
31:12It all came together.
31:13My model was perfect for the outfit.
31:14The hair was right.
31:15The shoes were right.
31:16Everything was perfect.
31:17My model looks absolutely gorgeous and man, can she walk.
31:23But, I'm not sure that I have done the best design I could for this challenge.
31:42Oh my God.
31:43When I saw my model walk out onto the runway, I stopped breathing.
31:55She looks stunning.
31:57Stunning.
31:58I'm a bit nervous.
31:59But, I'm hoping it will be okay because I really think my dress was quite hot.
32:13There is absolutely nothing I would change about my design.
32:26My concept and my design overall is still one of the best on the runway.
32:31It's just the execution that needs a little bit of tweaking.
32:39I thought, yeah, that's red carpet.
32:43It's glamour.
32:48It's great.
32:56When I saw my design go down the runway, I actually felt very proud.
33:02I think it was a really stunning evening gown.
33:05It was mission accomplished.
33:14She carried the dress well, hair and makeup came together, and she nailed the detail with
33:19the scarf.
33:20If I only had a bit more time and a bit more fabric, it would have been fabulous to make
33:25a full length dress.
33:35When I saw my model Sarah coming down, I was just happy with the way everything came together,
33:41fit her beautifully.
33:42Basically, I thought, this is good work.
33:44I was happy with it.
33:49When I saw my design on the runway, I was very happy because I thought the fabric was coming
33:54up great underneath the lights.
34:01I think the judges will respond favourably to my design when they look into the detail
34:05of work.
34:11I'm really stoked to see Jess on the runway.
34:12I think she looked beautiful.
34:13She did exactly what I wanted her to do.
34:18I'm kind of relieved just to get the first one out of the way.
34:26We've scored your designs.
34:28Would the following designers please step forward?
34:32Kellyanne.
34:35Claudia.
34:39Michael.
34:41Yopi.
34:44Ivana.
34:47Ryan.
34:51If I have called your name...
34:56Congratulations.
34:58Your scores were high enough to move you to the next round.
35:02You may leave the runway.
35:04The six of you remaining have the highest and the lowest scores.
35:19One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
35:24Let's bring out your models.
35:26I would like to start with Lauren.
35:39Lauren, why don't you tell us a little bit about your design.
35:42I was quite inspired by the fabrics and I wanted to keep a very simple silhouette with a bit of fun frivolity around it.
35:45Jason, what are your thoughts?
35:46I think it's a very traditional silhouette. It has a cheapness to it.
35:47For me, the fishtail down the bottom is too heavy. It looked a little bit like gumboots as she walked out. So just be really careful in how you actually put it together.
36:03I must admit, when I saw the silhouette through the screen there, I thought, wow, that actually looks like a red carpet dress. And when it came out, I was a little bit like, oh.
36:17I think I let myself down with my fabric choice.
36:20It's very Diana Ross and the Supreme.
36:22Yeah, it's true.
36:23Sarah, what did you think of Anthony's design?
36:28Anthony, can you tell me a bit about the inspiration for your design?
36:32I actually thought of Cate Blanchett because I think she's always got a bit of twist, but she's always so elegant.
36:36I think this really reflects me as a personality. It's quite quirky, a bit left of centre.
36:41And I like small details, which are really cute, but it's more in the detail rather than being really obvious, even though I've got big flowers on.
36:52But, you know, I do like subtlety as well.
36:55I think if it reflects you as a designer, I want to know, because it looks interesting, it's elegant. I love the print. I think the print is really beautiful.
37:04Nicola, you've actually designed for Cate Blanchett. Could you see her in this?
37:08Yeah, I think so. It's very good at very off centre.
37:11Left at the centre.
37:13But I think it's very, very good. Very, very good.
37:16Call me Cate.
37:18Jason, what did you think of William's dress?
37:21I think it's very accomplished for the time frame, and I think it's a very interesting silhouette.
37:28I think your choice of hairstyle is really complimentary.
37:31You have got a little bit of puckering down the front, just on those seams.
37:36Nicola, what are your thoughts?
37:37I think it's very good. I think it's very interesting and a little bit modern.
37:42It says red carpet to me, that's for sure.
37:44It does to me too.
37:45It does.
37:46Sarah, can you see Jason's design gracing the red carpet?
37:51Look, I think the actual silhouette has got potential to be red carpet.
37:56For me, the lace and the metallic stretch, as a combination, did not work.
38:03I understand where you're coming from with a body glove type shape and it looks quite 80s.
38:09Can you walk me through the use of the ribbon?
38:11I decided to incorporate and use the cut-outs of the lace and thread the ribbon through.
38:17That lace is quite fussy already.
38:19Yes.
38:20And just thread things through it and then you've got feathers and you've got flowers.
38:23A lot of detail.
38:24Yes.
38:25It reminds me of a Logies red carpet in 1987.
38:30It's a neighbour's star.
38:32Mark, talk us through your design.
38:35My inspiration was from the colours and I thought of a 1930s sort of royal court dress.
38:44Sort of demure but a little bit sexy at the same time.
38:49For me, I did have issues when she was walking down the runway and I felt that it was just
38:54a tad low and needed pulling up.
38:56I love the back.
38:58You've used some beautiful lines there and it's very dainty as well.
39:02It's a beautiful silhouette.
39:03Yeah, it is.
39:04It's beautiful from here.
39:05And I can see how it reflects you as a designer because you're neat and graphic yourself and
39:10the dress is very neat and graphic.
39:13I think you can have clothes that have a sexiness about them without being skin tight.
39:19Absolutely.
39:20Clothes that skim the body rather than cling to the body can be really beautiful.
39:25I think the silhouette is great and it's very modern and very well.
39:29Very good.
39:31Thank you very much.
39:32Jason, when you think red carpet glamour, does Amber's dress come to mind?
39:38It does if she's going to the Grammys.
39:39When I first thought of the challenge, I immediately thought of Lindsay Lohan and Scarlett Johansson.
39:44So that's basically who I was designing for.
39:47Red carpet for the Grammys?
39:48Yes.
39:49But glamorous?
39:50No.
39:51I do question the lumpiness of the side seams though.
39:55Yeah, absolutely.
39:56The lumpy side seam is actually a lumpy side zip that busted right at the final stages so
40:02that's been hand sewn in.
40:03Can you tell me what was happening on her bust?
40:05Again, this was a facing that I was finishing to put on and that was going to be happening
40:10in the final stages but we kind of got a bit lost with the whole busted zipper.
40:13Nicola, just how important is it to execute a design properly?
40:17Very important otherwise the design looks like shit.
40:20Sorry.
40:21Hi Nicola.
40:24It looks like time management is an issue.
40:27Possibly.
40:28Well designers, we've heard what you've had to say.
40:31We're now going to have a little chat and then I'll call you back.
40:37You can leave the runway.
40:49Okay, we've seen their designs, we've heard what they've had to say.
40:52What do we think?
40:53Mark's I thought was a really beautiful, elegant design.
40:57Every angle of that dress had drama to it.
41:00I think he's the one who really did express who he is as a designer through his dress.
41:04It was a wrong choice of fabric on the top.
41:07You have to have something softer for the time that he had and everything.
41:11It's very good.
41:14What about Anthony's?
41:16I was pleasantly surprised.
41:18He's got a real talent with drape.
41:20You can see he's got a lot happening in that design mind of things.
41:23I would wear that one.
41:25He would look so sexy on you.
41:27I might have to borrow it.
41:32Okay, how about William's dress?
41:34I thought perhaps he just went a little too far with the feathers.
41:37Perhaps he just went a little bit too costumey.
41:40It was very hard to fault that dress, right down to the length was just perfect.
41:44Yeah, it was.
41:45I think it's a great dress for a red carpet.
41:48I could totally see it on the red carpet.
41:49Yeah.
41:50Yeah, I could too.
41:52I mean there were some hits and some misses.
41:54Some of them were braver than others.
41:56We had Amber who I think took a real risk in the dress that she brought out.
42:01But her construction was appalling.
42:03She was trying to use a stretch fabric and a woven fabric and twist them together around the body.
42:10It's a very difficult thing to do.
42:11It's very difficult.
42:12Yeah, it's impossible.
42:16What did you think of Lauren's dress?
42:19The silhouette was a little bit oldish and the colours together, they are really very difficult.
42:26There's some young girls who will see glamorous as something quite traditional.
42:31It was traditional but it was kind of traditionally cheap.
42:33The drag queen, like cabaret or something.
42:39Let's talk a little bit more about Jason's outfit.
42:41I mean Lady Gaga wouldn't even go near that dress.
42:43There was so much happening with his dress.
42:46You go plan B rather than I'm going to keep going and adding and adding and adding until you end up with this thing.
42:57Well guys, are we happy with our decision?
43:00Yes.
43:01Yeah, I think we've made the right choice.
43:03Let's bring them out.
43:04Okay.
43:17One of you will be named the winner.
43:21And one of you will be out.
43:26Anthony.
43:27Anthony.
43:28You're in.
43:30You can leave the runway.
43:32You can leave the runway.

45:00you're in you can leave the runway
45:14jason lauren one of you will be out jason while you tried to create something original
45:28your design missed the brief lacking elegance and glamour it was messy and over the top
45:36and would be more suited in an 80s video clip than on the red carpet
45:40lauren your dress may have expressed who you are but it looked cheap outdated and lacked originality
45:50your combination of fabrics did not work and left us feeling flat
