00:00Hi, I'm Zachary. I'm 16 years old and I'm from Berkeley, California.
00:22Being on Project Runway Jr. is insane.
00:25Yes! Yes, yes, yes, yes.
00:28I started when I was six years old sewing with my aunt. I always say like I live by fashion,
00:35friends, fun and family. Oh, and food. I would say my design style is kind of like this neoclassical
00:41take, but really doing it in a very elegant and new way.
00:50New York City is so different from Southern California. Living in Southern California has
00:55definitely affected my design style. Everything is inspired by the ocean. Bohemian with, I
01:01like throwing in a little bit of sophistication, not totally flowy, hippy. Peace.
01:10I'm Jackson. I'm 15 years old and I'm from Minneapolis, Kansas. Minneapolis is a small town
01:18surrounded by farms. I have three bucket calves. I have to feed them every morning and then
01:23the farm cats. It's a lot of feeding basically. My design aesthetic is for B.A. women who want
01:32to look glamorous and chic. Bad-ass women, that's what they are.
01:38My name is Zach. I am 15 and I live in Louisville, Kentucky. Being a designer is like an everyday
01:44thing because I go to performing arts high school. My design aesthetic is inspired by the
01:50feminine body. I guess luxury is what I like to do.
01:54I love it. You see, there goes the Empire State Building. This is so pretty. I've been living
02:05in New York for 16 years now and I have yet to be in the rooftop. Seeing this view was like
02:13powerful because being from the city, I like street wear, incorporating all of that into fashion.
02:18I love this print. I'm Maya by the way. I'm Zachary.
02:22It is really cool to be with 11 other fashion designers my age. It's really cool to see other
02:27people who are interested in the same thing as me and understand what it is that I go through
02:32when I create things. I like the idea that you can take pieces of fabric and turn it into something
02:39that is going to make other people happy.
02:43Hi, everyone.
02:44Hi, designers. I'm Hannah Davis. I am your host. Thank you.
02:55I cannot believe that you guys are only teenagers and you're already here on Project Runway.
03:00Hannah Davis, of course, looking so good. I just wish I could be her.
03:06And I'm Tim Gunn and I'm very excited to be your mentor.
03:09And Hannah and I would like to welcome you to New York City.
03:14It is bizarre being in the same space as Tim Gunn because I'm like, you're supposed to be on TV.
03:20And then I'm like, oh wait, I am on TV.
03:24I'm expecting you to be fearless, untethered. Okay, is that a deal?
03:29Yes.
03:30That in mind, should we get started with the first challenge, Tim?
03:33Hannah, I believe that there's no time like the present. Let's do it.
03:37I'm like, what? Now? Right now? Really?
03:40Designers, this is a first impressions challenge.
03:43Using the fabulous city of New York as your inspiration,
03:46we want you to create a look that best shows off your design style.
03:50We're giving each of you sketchbooks and camera phones.
03:53You will have 30 minutes here to take in these staggering city views,
03:57to snap pictures and to sketch.
04:00All right, designers, your first challenge begins now.
04:03So good luck, designers.
04:11So I am sketching a coat dress and I really want to show the more extravagant side
04:17and also the working and business side of the city.
04:20Because I feel like New York is so diverse in that way.
04:23I am thinking right off the bat that I need to use a skyline.
04:36I am sketching a crop top with a mini skirt and a detachable mermaid skirt over it.
04:44I am thinking that I am going to make maybe a tank top because I basically want to bring back the whole menswear into womenswear design aesthetic.
04:51Although I sketch, I definitely think that over time it is going to keep evolving.
04:57I didn't really want to be inspired by the buildings.
05:00You know, I was like, eh, that's kind of outdated.
05:03I'm looking down, you know, and I see all the cabs on the street.
05:05I'm like, oh, I feel like I could do something with this.
05:08I've been president of the fashion club for a year now in high school.
05:11My design aesthetic is classy with an edge to it, so.
05:15The top has a plunging neckline.
05:17You know, if you got girls, like, might as well show them off a little bit.
05:20All right, designers, your time is up bright and early tomorrow morning.
05:25I will meet you at Mood.
05:27Bring your sketch pad and your camera phone, and you'll have a lovely night.
05:39All right, designers, it's our first trip to Mood.
05:42Yeah, how exciting is this?
05:45Are you at 45 minutes to shop and your budget is $200?
05:50Don't lose your money.
05:52All right.
05:53And your time starts now.
05:55Head off, have fun.
05:56Explore.
06:02It's insane.
06:03There's so many places to go and so many fabrics.
06:05It's like, I don't even know what to choose from.
06:06You know, I was a little overwhelmed.
06:08I'm good in my look.
06:09I am looking for neoprene because I did not want a light fabric,
06:16and I wanted it to have some sturdiness.
06:18Also, the neoprene's very colorful.
06:21Um, can I have this one?
06:23I have this idea to use embellishments to basically create the New York City skyline,
06:28but in abstract ways.
06:31Yeah, I like this one a lot.
06:32This is beautiful.
06:33Yes, this is perfect.
06:34Okay.
06:35The mood is so big.
06:36I am very overwhelmed, if I'm being completely honest.
06:39My design style is definitely not for the faint-hearted,
06:43and I hope that doesn't come back to bite me.
06:45I'm a mess.
06:47Um, what's the price for this one?
06:49This one is $50 a yard.
06:51Okay.
06:52I thought that $200 was a lot, but yeah, it's not that much.
06:56This one is $4 a yard.
06:58Okay.
06:59When I think about New York, the color I associate with it is red.
07:02I love that the fabric has just enough shine to it.
07:07It's just perfect.
07:08All right, designers.
07:09Time is up.
07:10That's it, everyone.
07:11Thank you, Mood.
07:12Thank you, Mood.
07:13Thank you, Mood.
07:19My selfie is up there.
07:22Walking into the workroom for the first time is like a designer's paradise.
07:26It is like walking into Charlie's Chocolate Factory, and I'm just so excited to start working.
07:31Wait, let's go in the sewing room.
07:33Okay.
07:34Okay.
07:36It like just hit me.
07:38Like, it's really real.
07:39I'm here where other amazing Project Runway designers were.
07:43That's insane to me.
07:45This is so cool.
07:51Welcome to your workroom.
07:53What do you think?
07:55I want to acknowledge the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in California.
07:59They're wonderful to us.
08:00Yes.
08:01Yay!
08:03And Brother Sewing.
08:04Next door is the Brother Sewing Studio.
08:07This is the first impressions challenge.
08:10And the first impression is very critical.
08:13You have one day for this challenge.
08:16Ready to work?
08:17Yes.
08:19See you all later.
08:25What are you making?
08:26A dress?
08:27Yeah, like a flowy dress.
08:28Oh, that's so you.
08:30Oh, you're doing pants?
08:31Yeah.
08:32Ooh, girl, girl.
08:33I'm doing like a jumpsuit thing.
08:35Both of my pieces kind of have to be fitted nicely.
08:39My overall vision for my look is a halter style fit ruched top with an open back and some flowy pants that hang just under the knee.
08:50I've never done this top before.
08:52Oh, you haven't?
08:53No.
08:54Taking a risk?
08:55Yeah.
08:56A major risk.
08:57Yeah, it'll be pretty.
08:58I do tend to be very ambitious with my designs.
09:00I just experiment and do things that can turn out to be risky and they could turn out to be very successful.
09:08You work fast.
09:09Oh, my gosh.
09:10You're like the new Keeney.
09:11He's gonna pump out three outfits and go, which one should I choose?
09:15Not even close.
09:18Zachary works really, really fast and I am the youngest in the group, so it's pretty daunting knowing that everyone here has more experience.
09:27It's just like puckering like no one's business.
09:38I'm starting to get a little nervous about the top that I'm currently making.
09:42Can you see that?
09:44Oh, God.
09:45The seams aren't really looking the best.
09:48It's not pressing well.
09:49It's not taking the interfacing very well.
09:51I think I'm doing a new top.
09:53It's just not.
09:54I'm just not feeling it.
09:55You're not down with me?
09:56I'm definitely freaking out because I feel like my garment isn't something that I would be proud of sending down the runway, especially for the first challenge.
10:04Coming up on Project Runway Junior.
10:05Have you used velvet a lot?
10:06You don't like it?
10:07It looks like an add-on.
10:08I appreciate it.
10:09I find it beautiful.
10:10What happened?
10:11How are you feeling about time?
10:12It is distracting.
10:13We get it.
10:14Is that intentional?
10:15Front wedgie and back wedgie.
10:16Unfortunately, one of you will be out.
10:17Look how cute these are, Isabel.
10:18I don't know.
10:19Look how cute these are, Isabel.
10:20I don't know.
10:21Look how cute these are, Isabel.
10:22I don't know.
10:23I don't know.
10:24I don't know.
10:25I don't know.
10:26I don't know.
10:27I don't know.
10:28I don't know.
10:29I don't know.
10:30I don't know.
10:31I don't know.
10:32Look how cute these are, Isabel.
10:33I don't know.
10:34Look at that.
10:35You really printed that out?
10:36I did.
10:37Because it's cute.
10:38We look so good.
10:41This week's challenge is to use New York as an inspiration to create an outfit that really
10:48reflects our personal design style.
10:50You can do like a rap song, like, hey.
10:53Hey!
10:54How's Miss Maya doing?
10:59Could be a little better.
11:02I started over on my top.
11:03It just wasn't up to my standards.
11:05I've decided to scrap the top.
11:08I don't think that it's something I'm going to be proud of sending down the runway, and
11:12I really don't want to send something down the runway that isn't 100% me, especially
11:16for the first challenge.
11:18Okay, that looks better.
11:19I just have a lot to do.
11:21No, I think they'll be into that.
11:24Because it's different.
11:26I think it's a good design for me, the taxicab idea.
11:29There's something cool and innovative about it, you know, on the back when she turns around.
11:33I think I'm just going to make it really flowy.
11:36Yeah, just do it.
11:37I decided to go with this skirt.
11:39It has a high slid.
11:40I think it goes well with the design.
11:44Ooh.
11:45Sorry.
11:46Hi, Tim.
11:47Hi, Tim.
11:48Hi.
11:49It's our first check-in together.
11:51And I'm very excited.
11:53Yay.
11:54Zach, how are you?
11:56Hi, Tim.
11:57I'm doing a red mermaid dress.
11:59The sketch is here.
12:01How are you feeling about time?
12:03There's a lot happening here.
12:05I mean, look at the silhouette.
12:07Right now I have the top done and I did the underskirt for the bottom.
12:12Okay.
12:13The rest of the day will be focused on the skirt and making sure that the fit of that is perfect.
12:19I mean, the thing about this fabric is everything shows.
12:24So the fit of this is all important.
12:27I think that Tim's advice is very helpful.
12:30I'm just concerned that I don't have enough time to do everything.
12:34This was my inspiration, looking at the different sizes of the windows.
12:38I wanted to portray that in, like, the pockets.
12:41So, like, as you can see, I have two here.
12:43Then I have these two here.
12:44I have to say I have a very positive response to the attitude.
12:47Oh, thank you.
12:48It has an edge, but there's a breeziness to it.
12:52All right.
12:53Just watch the construction.
12:57How's Matt?
12:58I'm good.
12:59I'm even better now that I'm in the presence of a god.
13:02You definitely flatter me.
13:05So talk to me.
13:06Okay.
13:07So I really wanted to make something that spoke true to my own personal design style,
13:12but also kind of reflected the woman of New York, and it's made out of velvet,
13:16which I think is, like, it adds a little extra something to, like, the dress.
13:20Have you used velvet a lot?
13:22Yeah.
13:23I actually work with velvet quite often.
13:25It's very difficult to work with, and you've handled it beautifully.
13:29Yeah.
13:30All right, Matt.
13:31Thank you very much.
13:32Thank you so much.
13:33So I'm making a gown, and it's for, you know, like, an older woman, maybe, like, 30s.
13:36That's still very confident.
13:37That's older?
13:38Okay.
13:39I better go into retirement.
13:40I think the inspiration really comes in is on the back, and, like, I took this picture
13:44of calves just, like, lined up.
13:45Look at that.
13:46Now that I see what the source of the inspiration was, I get it.
13:50I wouldn't have known otherwise, yet I still appreciate it and find it beautiful.
13:54That waistband, you're gonna have to take a mallet to it.
13:57Yeah.
13:58In order to flatten it out, it can't be this rough.
14:01It needs to be more finely honed.
14:05I design clothes for B.A. women.
14:08For what women?
14:09It's not bad.
14:10Oh, B.A.
14:11Yeah, B.A.
14:12I thought, what's B?
14:13B.A.?
14:14Women who have an undergraduate degree?
14:16I was inspired to do the city skyline.
14:18Okay.
14:19And so at night, I'll have these colorful buildings.
14:22And then during the day, it's gonna be gray and black toned.
14:27And then with clear vinyl, I'm gonna create a mermaid skirt over the pencil skirt.
14:32It sounds like it's gonna be a lot of look.
14:35I just don't want you to go into costume land.
14:38I'm super glad I get Tim's advice.
14:40I decided kinda to scale back, but still keep the look.
14:45Oh, yeah.
14:46How are you?
14:47I'm doing a lot better.
14:48How are you?
14:49A lot better.
14:50What happened?
14:51I redid my top because it wasn't going the way that I wanted it to.
14:55I decided to do an open back so that I could do this cool bit down the back.
15:00I love that.
15:01Down the back.
15:02I just traced some of the buildings I saw.
15:04Oh, I see it.
15:05And then cut it out.
15:06It's a negative space skyline.
15:07Yes, exactly.
15:08Very unexpected and very clever.
15:11Can I also tell you?
15:12I am so disinclined to have a positive response to the color mauve.
15:20You've given me a positive response.
15:25I'm not sure what disinclined means, but okay.
15:29I don't like the color.
15:30You don't like it?
15:31With what you've done with it, I happen to love it.
15:33Really?
15:34Yeah.
15:35Yay.
15:36I was super surprised when he said he didn't like it.
15:38I was like, what?
15:39That's like my favorite color.
15:41But I'm glad that he likes the way it looks on my garment.
15:44Originally, I wanted to do a silhouette that represented the New York skyline and all
15:49the different heights of the buildings.
15:50So at the bottom, I was thinking I could use the pleather to give the outfit movement,
15:56but I just wanted to give it some sex appeal on the runway and some edge.
15:59With these strips, are they all going to be the same length?
16:02I'm not sure.
16:03I think I'm originally going to make them all the same length and see how it fits on the
16:07model.
16:08It's about proportions and it's about the length of the skirt and then the length of this trim.
16:14Right.
16:15And also the abruptness of that exuberant construction detail happening at this hemline.
16:23I'm feeling really nervous and insecure about where I want to take my look and I think I'm
16:29definitely in trouble right now.
16:31Frankly, it looks like an add-on.
16:33Uh...
16:34Coming up on Project Runway Junior…
16:37Our first runway show!
16:38Ah!
16:39I really need my model.
16:40I just cut a hole in it.
16:41What do I do?
16:42It's just not working out at all.
16:46This hemline, frankly, it looks like an add-on.
16:54Victoria's skirt is a little crazy.
16:56I'm like .
16:57What if I did strips of leather on the seams?
16:59I think anything you can do to get the leather above this
17:03hemline would be to your advantage.
17:05I'm definitely feeling a little bit nervous about what he
17:07thinks, and I think it put me in my place for what kind of
17:10work I need to be doing for the next few hours.
17:13Designers, I loved our session together.
17:16You have blown me away.
17:18You will have three more hours in the workroom, and your models
17:22will be here in one hour for a fitting,
17:25and you will have 30 minutes with them.
17:26I will see you in the morning for our runway show.
17:29Thank you, James.
17:31I'm, like, shaking.
17:32Ugh.
17:33I'm in the most trouble with my look.
17:35Right now, it's at, like, a 7, and I need it to be a 10.
17:40I'm, like, praying for you.
17:41Zach definitely is running out of time with his garment.
17:45I'm just worried that he won't finish.
17:50Are you my model?
17:51You're gorgeous.
17:52Yeah, and then the top is going to be, like, crossed over like this.
17:56At least this is mine.
17:58OK, so you just see that.
17:59The pants don't fit at all.
18:00On the card where it says, like, the model's measurements, it says,
18:03like, 37, but she's two or three inches bigger.
18:06So I'm, like, so pissed off because the pants were literally perfect.
18:12OK, let's try this one.
18:14I have a top and a skirt for you to try.
18:16And basically, this is going to be a high-waisted skirt just like that.
18:19The skirt is quite tight, and also my model is pretty boonalicious.
18:24I think if I might have to add fabric.
18:26OK, so I'm going to have to take the skirt in.
18:28You can just, like, hold it in the front.
18:29I need to find the hemline when she's, like, in her heels, and I just need to see where
18:33everything is going to connect.
18:34The hips feel OK.
18:35The whole ensemble looks amazing on her.
18:38I'm super glad that fit, like, a glove.
18:41Bye.
18:42See you tomorrow.
18:43I wanted to cry when she put those on.
18:47Yeah.
18:48Did they not work or something?
18:49What happened?
18:50No, it just wouldn't go up.
18:51She just started all over.
18:52It didn't go up.
18:53Yeah.
18:54It's not as simple as just adding two inches on the side because all of my detail is all
18:59on the side.
19:00So I just have to completely scrap the whole panel.
19:02I don't even know if it's going to work out or not.
19:04Cut this off, but the ends aren't finished, so I don't want it to completely
19:07unravel.
19:08Like, what do I do?
19:10So I went to search the bottom of the whole skirt, and I don't know what was going on,
19:15but it came out super uneven.
19:17So I start cutting.
19:19All the gathering comes out from the top of the skirt.
19:22Well, there goes that.
19:24My heart dropped, you know.
19:25Sammy, you just need to breathe.
19:27I'm trying, girl.
19:28Guys, it's time to go back to our home at Paper Factory Hotel.
19:34No.
19:35No.
19:36Peace out, girl.
19:37I just cut a hole in it.
19:38Did you really?
19:39Mm-hmm.
19:40We'll just tape it.
19:41We'll just tape it.
19:42Literally getting Scott's shape out.
19:43Oh, I hope this fits you.
19:44I know.
19:45I need my model.
19:46I really need my model.
19:47Good morning, designers.
19:48How exciting is this?
19:49It's our first runway show.
19:50You will have 30 minutes before your models come in, and then you will have 30 minutes with
20:05your models, and then all of us are going down to the runway, okay?
20:09We're going to have a great show.
20:11Yay!
20:12Zach?
20:13Yes?
20:14If this becomes a shorter skirt, you'll have less work to do.
20:18That's all.
20:19I do have extra fabric.
20:20Right now, time is killing us all, and it's definitely biting Zach in the butt.
20:25I'm going to go crazy right now.
20:27Oh, my God.
20:28I definitely hope that my model feels comfortable with walking down the runway naked because
20:32I'm going to have nothing to send down.
20:34I just have to gather this more, a little bit smaller.
20:37I noticed that Sammy could be in some trouble with some construction issues, so I'm a little
20:42nervous for her.
20:43I'm thinking of different things I could do to fix it.
20:46This skirt is literally just a giant piece of fabric.
20:49Good.
20:50How are you?
20:51I'm stressed out if I'm being honest.
20:56Oh, I just stabbed myself.
20:57Okay.
20:58I think everyone's going nuts.
20:59I'm doing a totally different bottom.
21:00I just don't want it to snap or anything like that.
21:03I love it.
21:04I think that it looks so pretty.
21:05I'm a little nervous about the back piece just because it is stretched out a bit.
21:09I'm hoping it'll be good.
21:10I'm hoping they'll like it.
21:12Designers, in 10 minutes, you and your models and I are going down to the runway.
21:17Yay!
21:21Like, ah!
21:24Okay, I just need to sew the back on.
21:27I'm definitely panicking.
21:28I'm picturing in my head all you're going to see is the back and it's going to look so
21:31bad.
21:32Oh, it looks so good.
21:33That looks hurt.
21:34Designers and models, it's time for our first runway show.
21:40Woo!
21:41Let's head down, everyone.
21:43It feels a little uneasy knowing that someone will go home today, but it's one step closer
21:48for me.
21:49Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
21:50Strut your stuff!
21:51Yee!
21:52Hello, designers.
21:53Hi!
21:54Welcome to the runway.
21:56As you know from watching Project Runway, in fashion, one day you're in and the next day
21:57you're out.
21:58And it makes me so sad that one of you will be leaving tonight.
21:59This is our very first Project Runway Junior.
22:01It's the only time that we're in and the next day you're in and the next day you're
22:06out.
22:09It makes me so sad that one of you will be leaving tonight.
22:16This is our very first Project Runway Junior.
22:18This is our very first Project Runway Junior.
22:20Congratulations.
22:21Here we go.
22:27This is our very first Project Runway Junior Runway Show.
22:30I am so excited.
22:32How do you guys feel?
22:33Great.
22:34I'm excited.
22:35Nervous?
22:39Alright, this was a first impressions challenge.
22:42Using New York City as your inspiration, you were to create a look that shows us who you are as a designer.
22:48Would you like to hear what the winner of Project Runway Junior will receive?
22:52Yes!
22:53Okay.
22:54The winner will receive a full scholarship to the prestigious FIDM in California.
23:00My mom and dad would love if they didn't have to pay for me to go to college.
23:04I can't wait to have my prizes.
23:06A complete home sewing and crafting studio provided by Brother.
23:11A feature in Seventeen Magazine.
23:13A fashion spread in Seventeen Magazine.
23:15I don't know.
23:16I think I'd die.
23:17I'd probably faint.
23:18And $25,000 to launch your line.
23:23Okay.
23:24Let's meet the judges.
23:25First, we have former Project Runway winner and fashion designer, Christian Siriano.
23:30Hello.
23:31Hello.
23:32He was in our shoes at one point and now he's got this huge brand.
23:40If he did it, then I can do it too.
23:42Fashion critic and designer, Kelly Osborne.
23:45I love her.
23:46She's so funny and she's such a great fashion sense.
23:52And fashion director for Seventeen and Cosmopolitan magazines, Aya Kanai.
23:57Hi guys.
23:58I read Cosmopolitan.
23:59I read Seventeen, so it's so cool to like see her in the flesh, you know.
24:04Also, we love having Tim Gunn here for the runway show, but he won't be judging your looks.
24:09But he does have a Tim Gunn save.
24:12Oh my god.
24:13That means that if at some point during the competition he disagrees with us, then he can
24:18bring the eliminated designer back into the competition.
24:21Does that make sense?
24:22Hannah, may I have your permission to have 12 saves?
24:25Okay.
24:27I'm already smitten.
24:28I'm already attached.
24:29Gotta get in good with him, right?
24:32All right.
24:33It's time for the show.
24:36Yes, Kate.
24:37Oh.
24:38It's incredible seeing my look coming down the runway.
24:41Wow.
24:42It's different.
24:43It stands out from the rest, you know.
24:45It's original.
24:46It's never been done before.
24:47I see my look come down the runway and I feel great.
24:52It's moving how I want it to.
24:54I'm a little bit worried about the side boobage, but I think it's okay.
25:02I'm feeling very proud when my look comes down the runway, because I literally just finished
25:08it.
25:09It actually looks beautiful and not just thrown together.
25:18As soon as my model tiara starts walking, I really just see the impact of my silhouette
25:24and how it just reflects the light and it captures the light, and it has such a strong statement.
25:29That's really what I was going for, so I'm very happy.
25:35I love that I used neoprene fabric in a very interesting way, as well as the strappy details on my dress.
25:42The back of the dress is definitely my favorite, because I just love how simple it looks.
25:49I see my look come down the runway, and my model is working it.
25:52She is strutting her stuff, and I am like, yes, walk.
25:57She just looks awesome.
25:59That's bad.
26:00I love that.
26:01To die for.
26:06Seeing my look come down the runway, I honestly feel like crying tears of joy,
26:09because it finally came together, everything fits, and I feel like this is exactly the first impression
26:14that I want to give off.
26:18This look definitely represents me as a designer.
26:21I can see everything about me in it, and I really hope that the judges see that as well.
26:26Jussie, it's fantastic.
26:29That was good, Jussie.
26:31Ooh!
26:32That's...
26:34The front looks pretty good.
26:37I'm still happy with the circles in the back.
26:39I really like how that came out.
26:41I mean, I know the skirt's, like, a little messed up, but it seems to be looking all right.
26:46Oh!
26:47Oh, my God.
26:48I love that color.
26:49I think that my garment looks amazing coming down the runway, and the movement's really nice.
26:58I just hope that I'm in the top.
27:01Wow.
27:03I love how she walks in it.
27:07It's pretty hashtag swag legit to see my model walking down this runway.
27:12I feel like this look really does represent me as a designer.
27:16Seeing my look come down the runway is just, like, amazing.
27:20Like, she is working it.
27:22And, like, she's really playing with the skirt, and I love her turn, and it's just amazing.
27:26Like, she looks stunning.
27:32So what do you guys think?
27:33How'd they do?
27:35Hands down.
27:36That was the best first challenge I have ever seen.
27:39And you have made this so difficult for all of us, because you guys are incredible at what you do.
27:45You did amazing.
27:49So I better be that good every week, right?
27:51Yes.
27:52Will the following designers please step forward?
27:55Sammy, can you step forward?
27:58Maya.
28:00Zach.
28:01Samantha.
28:03Victoria, please step forward.
28:05Jackson.
28:06If I did not call your name, congratulations, you are safe.
28:11Oh, my God.
28:12You can leave the runway.
28:13Thank you so much.
28:14Oh, my God.
28:15Oh, my God.
28:16Oh, my God.
28:17Oh, my God.
28:18Oh, my God.
28:19Oh, my God.
28:20Oh, my God.
28:21Oh, my God.
28:22Oh, my God.
28:23Oh, my God.
28:24Designers, one of you will be the winner of this challenge, and, unfortunately, one of you will be out.
28:29We know that you're young, but because you're all so extremely talented, we owe it to you.
28:35To be straightforward, honest, and, in some cases, even tough.
28:36Jackson.
28:37Hi.
28:38Hello.
28:39Hi.
28:40Oh, my God.
28:41Hi, my God.
28:42Hi.
28:43Hi.
28:44Hi, Jay.
28:45Hi.
28:47Hi.
28:48Hi.
28:49Hi, Jay.
28:50Hi.
28:51Hi, Jay.
28:52Hi, Jay.
28:53I'm here, Jay.
28:54Hi.
28:55Hi, Jay.
28:56Hi.
28:57Hi, Jay.
28:59Hi, Jay.
29:01Hi.
29:04Hi.
29:05tell us about your look i have presented you with a crop top with darts in the bust area and also a
29:13pencil skirt and i took inspiration from the city skyline and then in the back it's more colorful
29:19since new york is more colorful during the night i loved how you took the challenge so literally
29:26i just think it's so wearable i want to buy it off you right now thank you one of my favorite
29:32thing about fashion designers and when they can mix chic with kitsch and still remain elegant and
29:38that is what you gave me with this can be to see the back even like your color choices on the back
29:43those are the colors of the buildings and the lit up at night and it's so smart i kind of wish there
29:48was a waistband it's a tiny bit uneven where your darts are and that's kind of throwing me off
29:52however i love it when it comes to the concept and the idea that you were trying to achieve with
29:58this back to front quality we all found it really exciting thank you so zach hi does um judges my
30:06dress is inspired by one of the buildings we saw the building had points in its rooftop and so i wanted
30:12to bring that in into the neck and want to still keep it elegant be careful with your pleating i know
30:18big bums are in thank god if you have that much ruchy you lose the body if you're not going to pull
30:25the waist in a little bit more i think my biggest concern probably is that it feels a little bit
30:31dated whereas a lot of the clothes up here today felt a little more modern i am more interested in
30:37your personal style than i am in your look your whole look is more sophisticated than the look you
30:45created for your model and so i'm trying to figure out who are you as a designer
30:50samantha tell us about your look growing up in new york i noticed that there's two different type
30:57of styles here you know very general and it's that i'm going to work look and then i'm just going to
31:03go throw some jeans on with some really cool jeans i love that i am such a huge fan of androgyny and
31:10fashion one thing though watch your headlines where you finish at the top because that's where you move the
31:16most at the waist and it can roll and it's starting to do that a little bit i can't believe that you
31:22were able to make this look so expensive it looks like it should be on the runway it doesn't look like
31:27you had a day to do this and 200 bucks i mean it's it was like 43 dollars in total i had like a hundred
31:35dollars left wow your margin would be really good to make it killing i think actually my favorite part
31:41about this is your belt it's almost like a not really a functional belt it's really a styling
31:46element i like that she could kind of tie it on the side i like that the length is just the right
31:50length and i love the width of it so i think job well done i love how you worked in denim and just like
31:57a simple white shirt thank you i want to be her thank you victoria tell us about your look so when i was
32:04on the rooftop of gotham west there was this abstract crescendo of how the heights kept varying but they
32:10still kept getting taller and i think i really captured that with this beautiful trim you know
32:14it's interesting seeing you stand next to this girl i kind of feel like this is your look this
32:18is probably your style it's a little bit kind of gothic downtown cool i think actually my biggest
32:23concern was that these strips that are kind of advocate on don't continue on the back this is what
32:28we call a car wash skirt which there's nothing wrong with that per se but the execution ends up looking
32:36a little bit challenged you know what your mom always said look in the mirror before you leave
32:41and take one piece off right look at it like that you have the ideas just don't overthink
32:46thank you victoria thank you maya tell us about your look well i was really inspired by the whole
32:52skyline itself and not just one building so i incorporated that by taking these leather strips
32:58and folding them in half and then cutting them out so that it was duplicated on both sides
33:03and i did that same thing down the back watching her walk down the runway i just love the movement
33:09of this look i think the back is the best part it's beautiful but i think it's really chic this was
33:14one of my favorite looks today it is so hard to make a jumpsuit to fit a woman and not end up getting
33:20like front wedgie and back wedgie it's really really beautiful how old are you i'm 13 i'm the youngest
33:28here you're 13 years old yeah well i will say not that any of us are going to go easy on you but
33:36the fact that you have produced something so beautiful is a major accomplishment for your
33:41first challenge thank you so much sammy tell us how this represents you i wanted to show like the
33:48elegance and sophistication of new york but i want to add sex appeal because i feel like new york is kind
33:53of a sexy place like okay when i was looking out there was just like a curb and there was like a
33:59ton of taxis just parked like one right after the other on the street so that's where i got this
34:03inspiration tell me what's going on on this side is that intentional that it sort of looks a little
34:10different on that side yeah they're supposed to be more like you know like that but um i had to sew this
34:16side in like hand sew it like 10 minutes before i see where you're going with this i like your
34:21inspiration on the back but i think it's and you know this it's a little messy have you made a lot
34:27of evening gowns before yeah okay is this the width of the fabric it's longer it was longer originally
34:34it's so interesting that it was longer and then when you cut it you get such a high dip in the back
34:40that is so uneven so it is distracting i like the back because i think for me that's saving you i feel
34:45like if that wasn't there i'd be like i'm kind of not into this dress i think that technique shows me
34:50that you have a vision of a designer something that i want to look for in the next challenge because
34:55i feel like we definitely have some serious construction issues here i really admire the
35:02fact that you are thinking about new york city in a different way but a paper bag wasted gown
35:09positively adds volume to the one place on a woman's body where we don't usually want more volume
35:17so thank you okay we've enjoyed talking with you you can now leave the runway thank you thank you
35:26hello hannah christian kelly i am so shall we begin with jackson what's really incredible is he bought
35:33the fabric for the colorful and the grays and the blacks were what on the other side of them when you
35:38get up close and you can see just a hint of the color through the scene it makes it even more fabulous
35:43you're good i mean definitely now seeing it up close i mean this isn't perfect but i don't mind
35:52the raw edge because it's like a denim and it's a cotton it feels kind of marjela this is the only one
35:57that has a bit of an avant-garde feel the obi belt is such a cool touch yeah we know that this designer
36:04has a big future ahead of us yeah in this competition oh my god i love this look i don't
36:13know why i like it it's giving me modern day star face right now yeah and she's 13. this just lays so
36:19perfectly the funny thing is she's not the best at working with this fabric however this look needs
36:25this fabric that's like why it made sense if it was a thicker i mean it would yeah i'm in total agreement
36:29so now we have victoria okay i kind of like this a little bit more now that i see it yeah though
36:39she was a little bit of a kid in a candy store in some ways this look is too much she's got the lines
36:47going on in the crop top she's got the mix of many materials she's got the lines going on with her
36:51bangles i'm like we get it
36:53i just don't feel like it's that innovative and different the point of project runway jr is to
37:02find the young talent that is moving fashion forward yeah for sure and this isn't a new idea this is one
37:10of the things that bugs me the most about anybody no i mean it has to be the same way a puckery satin
37:15in his defense none of this existed when we had an hour left oh poor thing i can't handle it but
37:25wait let's turn around the back because the back is really beautiful and at least let's give her that
37:29i have to disagree really that reminds me of when you're in camp and they give you paper trains
37:35i do really love her long van finish her raw edge i think that's just because she didn't have time
37:40fabric heat but i do think she was smart with her fabric choice the fabric's beautiful yeah
37:46okay we've made our decision let's bring out the designers
37:59designers one of you will be the winner of this challenge and unfortunately one of you will be out
