00:00Tennis anyone? That's just the tip of the prank iceberg, as we take one of the world's greatest muscle cars and really put some muscle into it.
00:14Yeah, it's a year one Mustang getting some big help from the gurus of year one, as well as our friends here at Chicane Sport Tuning.
00:20It's a fast build for a fast back, all happening in seven days, here where the owner gets tricked and the car gets tricked out.
00:27It's all part of the game known as overhauling.
00:30I am Gasoline
00:37That's right.
00:38I am Gasoline
00:43Bitches
00:48Let's go!
00:55Hey, I'm Courtney. I'm Chris.
00:57And I'm about to change for my tennis lesson. The one that I'm getting from our Mark, aptly named Mark. A tennis instructor who's going to be kept busy with my lesson while two car thieves go and steal his precious 65 Mustang.
01:09Thief number one? Well, that's me. Thief number two? The notorious Chip Foose. Now Foose and I have permission from some top insiders to grab Mark's ride and turn it into the pony car of his dreams.
01:19Yes. Now insider one is Mark's wife Beth. She's been watching him tinker and toy with his fast back for the last 16 years.
01:26Now 16 years is an easy number to remember because that's how old our main setter is. That's Mark's daughter Chelsea. Now she was born when Mark got the car from his dad.
01:34Alright, those are some of the key players. Let's serve up the match.
01:41So producer Todd is coming along as my husband, videotaping my lesson as Mark remains clueless.
01:47What about you, Todd? Are you going to get out and hit the corner?
01:49Yeah, I'm going to play some too. I just want to record this for prosperity.
01:51Okay.
01:52You know?
01:53Smooth and easy while you warm up.
01:55Here's some inside info. Courtney is actually pretty darn good at tennis, so part of the game is making sure she still looks like she has something to learn.
02:02Sometimes the racket face is what we call too open and the ball does what?
02:06Sails on it. So I'll tell you to do what? Close the racket face a little more.
02:12Now what's going on at the home front?
02:14Well, with a map in hand given to us by Beth, hidden cameras catch me and Chip taking all of the parts to the Mustang and putting them in a pickup truck.
02:21Now, we had the keys, we had the map, we thought we had it made.
02:26If you can hear me, we've got a neighbor looking at us behind me.
02:29In broad daylight for the whole world to see, I'd call these guys either brazen or just plain crazy.
02:39Here it is, Mark's precious Mustang and a surprise.
02:42Oh, the club, dude. It's locked.
02:46Chris can deal with the club. Chip is getting out of here.
02:50Oh, club off. I got the club off.
02:52This thing looks so bad, who knows if it will even make it up to the waiting flatbed.
03:00Let's see how far you can get without hitting a single ball in the net.
03:03Okay. Let's go.
03:04Courtney's got to keep swinging until Chip and I can get a few miles away from Mark's house.
03:09Mark is such a nice guy. He's giving me the best lesson and we're stealing his car.
03:15Ladies and gentlemen, this just in, a Mustang seemingly beyond repair is taken over by the hit TV show Overhaunt, given to lead designer Chuck Boos and turned into a show car in only seven days.
03:27I'm praying to the rust gods.
03:31This is ugly.
03:34When I looked in the truck, there's a couple big holes.
03:38We'll fix it.
03:42This car is jacked.
03:44So we've bitten off a little more we can chew once again, huh?
03:49We have big mouths.
03:51You can tell the guy loves his car because it's in really bad shape right now, but he had it under a cover, he had a club on it, he's got all the parts to it, and we're going to make it beautiful.
04:02We stole your car, and you don't know yet.
04:07And usually, Mark, when you put a club on a steering wheel, it helps to lock it.
04:12Hey, Courtney, you might be playing tennis, but Chris and I got the racket.
04:17Before Chip slays me with any more of that killer foos humor, Courtney, tell us what happens next.
04:22So with the lesson over, Mark gets a phone call from Beth.
04:25The 65 has been stolen, and she's already called the cops on the matter.
04:28But the cop she gets a hold of is Overhawn's own Eric, and Mark is very fired up about the disappearance of his prized ride.
04:37He said no fenders, no hood, no seat, no license plate.
04:43I mean, if they're out on the street, the cops just easily see it's totally not even legal to be on the street.
04:48Okay, she told me it's a 65 Mustang Fastback, all primer color.
04:52What other information can you tell me about it?
04:54It's just got the driver's seat, no passenger seat, no windshield.
04:59Why was the car all taken apart?
05:01I'm restoring it.
05:02Anybody that you know, that you've been involved with, you know, that might have seen the car and made a comment about it,
05:06somebody might want to take that thing?
05:09That one guy that was pestering on buying the thing, but I knew if I left it here too long, someone would take it.
05:16Yeah, my dad was the original owner.
05:19And no one saw here, Leah wasn't here.
05:21Mark has no clue of the week he has ahead of him.
05:24He thinks his car is gone for good.
05:27The chances aren't very good of finding this thing, is it?
05:30Pretty slim.
05:31To be honest, I'll take it back.
05:32I can't believe anyone would want it.
05:34It's all packed up.
05:36Well, I'll tell you, I take it personally.
05:37This is our beat.
05:40Glad that there's guys like you out there.
05:42All right.
05:44What's this stuff right here?
05:46Oh, boy.
05:47Mark's one of those neighborhood watch guys.
05:49Luckily, quick thinking Eric throws him off our path.
05:51Shut up my video camera.
05:53I'd be most concerned about what's in your house, what's in your garage, it might also be missing.
05:56Understandably, Mark is getting suspicious, wondering if the thieves also took the parts that weren't on the parked car.
06:05And sure enough, the stinking rat finks made off with the detached pieces as well.
06:09It went on the side, the hood's gone, and the fenders are gone.
06:12Hood and fenders, that's it?
06:13Yeah.
06:14They did get the body parts.
06:16They stole them.
06:17I told you, these guys are on top of it.
06:19They're really sparking everything.
06:20All right.
06:21Okay.
06:22I'll talk to you soon.
06:24Okay, the man is buying it.
06:25Game, set, and match.
06:27So with all the tennis and stealing behind us, let's bring in the car and meet the A-team who's going to take this ride from really wrong to totally strong.
06:36Joe Gosinski and his chicane sport tuning are essential when taking a Mustang from messed to best.
06:42Greg Coleman is one of the top dog car guys at Ford Research in Detroit.
06:47Also here from Motown is my main man, KB, Kevin Bird.
06:51Special guest on the build is interior icon Melanie Morimoto.
06:55We call her Modo.
06:56Brian Fuller is one of the top fabricators over at that little shop known as Foose Design.
07:01All-round builder and friend overhauling is car fiend Shane Boulay.
07:06Two captains on this build.
07:08Sam Foose is back for more punishment, a 70-plus car whiz who runs circles around the younger guys.
07:13Oh yeah, he brought his kid.
07:15Builders, car, shop, all the ingredients to trigger a green light.
07:19Let's go!
07:21Alright, I bring the car in and all I get are some really sore faces once the team sets eyes on this crate-o-junk.
07:26Whoo!
07:27What a nice ride, huh?
07:29Who needs a front end?
07:30They approach like vultures, which is appropriate since project manager Craig Chaffer sees that this car is a rotting animal.
07:40I don't know if we can duplicate this custom interior job here.
07:46Tennis anyone?
07:49This Mustang is in a heck of a lot worse shape than we expected.
07:53There's no front end.
07:54There's no seat.
07:55There's one seat.
07:56Basically, there's rust in the front and the back.
07:58There's holes all around the windshield.
08:00There's a good blue deck lid and there's a good roof.
08:03And other than that, it's .
08:06That's pretty much what the entire underside of the car looks like right now.
08:09And this piece broke off really easily if that's any indication of what kind of shape it's in.
08:14Rusted all the way through.
08:16Not good.
08:17Even Melanie's little pet can see that this car is a real dog.
08:21Okay, enough jokes and juggling.
08:23It's time to get serious.
08:25We're a little worried about how bad the chassis is rusted.
08:29And from a safety standpoint, we don't want to lift it up too high and worry that something's going to come apart.
08:33You can see that everything's fatigued and rusted.
08:35This year one Mustang was created back when the only U.S. sports car was the Corvette, a model that was a bit too pricey for most people.
08:42Introduced in the middle of 1964, the Mustang was met with a lot of enthusiasm.
08:47The demand would outstrip production for a year.
08:49Why was it such a hit?
08:51Many say it was a great combo of striking features and striking design.
08:54But you wouldn't know any of that by looking at this sorry ride.
08:57So we've got to get into a meeting and figure out who is going to do what.
09:00Alright, well it's time for our strategy meeting.
09:03It's accountability.
09:04We've got some serious rust to worry about here.
09:06But is it going to be exciting?
09:07Oh, it'll be exciting.
09:09Rust repair is really exciting.
09:11Brakes, we have Bear coming in.
09:13John wants to do the dash and the gauges.
09:15Exhaust, Magnaflow.
09:16Magnaflow, baby.
09:17Interior.
09:18Melanie.
09:19We've got Nico.
09:20What is that?
09:21Paint graphics, we've got an M2.
09:23Chip, you know, whoever's working on this car really knew what they were doing.
09:26They quit.
09:28Are you ready?
09:29Is everybody ready?
09:30In sights?
09:31Woo-hoo!
09:32It's all coming off.
09:33This thing's trash, man.
09:34It's so weak, it's so rusted out.
09:35It's so rusted out that we don't even know what we can and can't keep on this ride.
09:44One great thing on the way is a new motor from Ford Racing.
09:47Yeah, but still, that doesn't mean that we can just drop the old engine onto the ground.
09:52More parts in here than on the exterior of the car.
09:55What's up with that, Mark?
09:56It all seems unusable, even the stuff that's under the car.
10:00You guys at Magnaflow would laugh at that.
10:02I know.
10:04Apparently somebody's version of rust repair back sometime when was just putting a bunch of bondo and silicon on it.
10:10Now I'm scraping all that stuff out, having a lot of trouble finding metal that's still usable.
10:15Plenty of rust, not a lot of metal.
10:17This is going to be a challenge to get this thing done in a week.
10:20So you guys are doing the front and rear suspension.
10:22Yeah, and then chassis stiffening too.
10:24How's the car going to be handling once all your stuff is in there?
10:28Like it's on rails and most work's going to be up to him being able to try and drive it.
10:32And it's going to look beautiful after the week is over.
10:36Year One sent us an entire truckload of parts for this Mustang restoration.
10:41And it's going to take a build team assembly line to open them up.
10:45Kevin King and the dudes from Year One have made our day.
10:48And they've made Mark's year, shipping out the goods to one sad and stripped down Mustang.
10:52So come on, you guys, make Year One proud.
10:55Pick up the pace.
10:56Seven days from now, you're all going to wonder why you were such a bunch of slackers.
11:01All right, Greg from Ford Racing, what'd you bring us?
11:06450 horsepower of Z-Head 347, 400 foot-pounds, stomping.
11:14Are you hearing this, Mark?
11:15Yeah.
11:16This is the bad mamma jamma.
11:18Wow.
11:19Let's drive it in.
11:20So the car today has been called a piece of junk, a piece of rotten fruit, a toilet.
11:29A family heirloom.
11:30You have to take pride in that, and that's what everybody's doing.
11:33So no matter what they've said about it, look at the love they're giving it.
11:36Absolutely.
11:37Coming up, an insider tells us why she just loves to prank on her dad.
11:54On day one of the overhauling chaos, we distracted our Mark, Mark, as we made off with his Mustang
11:59and hauled it over here to our overhauling headquarters at Chicane Sport Tuning.
12:03That's where we discovered that Rust was both our enemy and reality,
12:07making this one of the most difficult overhauling builds to date.
12:10I mean, this junker was screaming, seven days? Ain't no way.
12:14But we wrangled that poor little pony and told her to calm down.
12:17She's now in the hands of our awesome A-team.
12:19And now as day two begins, there's a whole lot of healing to do.
12:24Mark's wife, Beth, and daughter, Chelsea, are our insiders, checking out the inside of the build.
12:29Tell us a little bit about his personality. Like, how would you describe Mark in three words?
12:33Fun, creative, and a perfectionist.
12:38Does he like the Shelby Mustangs? Do you remember with those?
12:41The ones that are high performance?
12:43Yeah.
12:44See, his brain is going...
12:46Yeah, exactly. You're designing in your head.
12:49All right, memory lane hooking us up again.
12:51We've got a Mach vehicle here.
12:53They sent us over the front end of another 65 Mustang, so we'll be able to use that
12:57because our front end on the real car is so chewed up.
13:00Hopefully we'll be able to actually cut these panels out right here
13:03where the other ones are all rusted out and weld those onto the new car.
13:06I don't know. These guys are all chomping at the bit, waiting around to get this car inside.
13:09So let's get along.
13:11Now what the situation is, not only is there tons of rust and tons of corrosion,
13:15but there was some really amateur body work done, and there was a lot of fiberglass.
13:18So we have to be careful, but cleaning it up and getting it ready for the cosmetic surgery.
13:29So as a lot of work by a lot of people goes into preparing the front end,
13:32two generations of foos survey the situation in regards to even more damage being found.
13:37The verdict? Quickly cut and replace before another speck of rust is found.
13:41Keep this front end on the car or replace it with the other one that we've got.
13:45I told you you stole the wrong car, Jim.
13:49This is a good piece. This is a real nice piece.
13:52So instead of trying to fix the cow, fix this little place, fix that place,
13:57we just cut it across and put in a clip. We'll be way ahead of the game as far as time.
14:02And as far as time, it's now time for Detective McKay to call Mark.
14:07Hello.
14:08May I speak to Mark Grip, please?
14:10This is Mark.
14:11My name is Detective McKay. I'm actually Investigator Appleton's supervisor.
14:15So you say that you were restoring the car. How long have you been working on it?
14:18Well, I'm in about six months now, I guess.
14:21What exactly were you doing to it?
14:24Well, all the rust. Old Mustangs have lots of rust.
14:28And so the first thing I tackle is welding on new sheet metal.
14:32Now, which neighbor was home that you talked to?
14:34This neighbor across the street on the northeast corner.
14:37What did he tell you that he saw?
14:39His wife saw these two guys pull up in a forest green pickup truck.
14:44And she didn't recognize him?
14:46No. One with the medium build and brown hair about 5'10 or 5'11".
14:51I apologize. It's such a sentimental car.
14:55Thanks for your hard work.
14:57Thank you. Bye-bye.
15:01You know, we keep picking these people with these sad stories and it almost gets to me.
15:07Almost.
15:08And it's almost as though Chelsea can't believe all this rust either.
15:12Did you film it?
15:13Wow.
15:15Chip just named this the Rustang.
15:18That's a pretty good name for it.
15:20That's why she pitches in and lends a hand.
15:24Hope you like this, Dad.
15:27So now this new front end that isn't very new has to be prepped for blasting just like the old front end was.
15:34Okay, no more front ends. We're going with this one.
15:37All the work we did to the original nose, we're doing it again to this guy.
15:42It's crazy in here. Check that out.
15:49And check this out. The newly prepped nose is going out to get blasted clean, getting its own carrier to make it all happen.
15:57All right, it's three o'clock on day two and the reason why there are eight bodies holding up the front end is because Mike from Meyers Suspension is right now cutting off the front clip, making room for the newly sandblasted front end that's about to arrive.
16:15So with a few more hits, it's soon aloha to a big piece of the car.
16:20All right, Mark, say goodbye. You're a richie.
16:23Okay, lift it up.
16:24With all this major swapping out, it's become the kind of build that can even concern the usually unflappable Foose.
16:31It's going to be a challenge to get this done in a week. Of all the cars, this will be the biggest challenge.
16:37Okay, ladies and gentlemen, this is the first time I have ever heard Chip Foose say that he was worried that the car wouldn't be done on time.
16:48No, I said I'm not worried. I said it's going to be a challenge.
16:50Okay, it's going to be a challenge to get it done in a week.
16:53And it's also a challenge for our insiders, Chelsea and Beth, dealing with confused and angry Mark and then sneaking off to give us updates.
17:00Chelsea, do you want to tell us how is your dad feeling right now?
17:04He's just freaking out.
17:07Beth, how are you feeling right now?
17:08I'm really excited. We went to the prom in this car, so it's a lot to see it kind of come back to life.
17:17Look at that plastic right there. It's 450 horsepower connected to a G-Force 5-speed transmission.
17:25Are you going to be able to handle that?
17:27I'm going to fry the tires.
17:28I hope so.
17:29You think she's going to get into it?
17:31I know. Is your dad going to let you drive the car?
17:33I don't think so.
17:34So because he's been so supportive of you and you guys have a really strong relationship,
17:38you felt that this was something you wanted to do for him?
17:41Yeah.
17:42Since it's kind of like his last connection with his dad, and so I think he felt that, you know, by letting this car go, that he was kind of letting his dad go.
17:54And so I think having this car nice and be able to drive it would just mean so much to him.
18:06As Chip creates, it's going to be a trick, combining innovative foods details with a car that just might be the most sacred design in automotive history. In other words, Chip has a balancing act on his hands.
18:16And for boys and girls who get their work done when they're supposed to, there's ice cream.
18:20Overhaulan treated us. We've been doing a good job evidently.
18:25You want to talk about a good job? Check out the work of interior expert Melanie Morimoto.
18:30I'm getting ready to put some new foam on the frame, but unless you put something between those two pieces, the foam gets all chewed up.
18:39This is what happens. You sit on it, and you sit on it, and you sit on it, and pretty soon you end up having the springs cut away into the foam.
18:46Like all things overhaulan, the interior is a collaboration.
18:49Well, I just talked to Beth, and she said he wanted to restore the interior.
18:53Uh-huh.
18:54Do you have any ideas of what you'd like to do?
18:55Well, I mean, we could stay real close to the original. If you want to go with embroidery, we could look at that.
18:59I need to start doing some sketches.
19:01I'm really excited. The frames are in great shape, and we're going to build right on the frames, and we're going to introduce a different color.
19:08Hopefully it won't clash with the outside of the car, because we don't really know what's going on with that yet.
19:13But I need to start building tomorrow, and hopefully I can get a pattern by tomorrow night.
19:18Knock on wood, keep your fingers crossed from it.
19:21Okay, it's time for that balance we were talking about.
19:24It's got to be overhauling, has to be Foose, and it's a year one Mustang fastback.
19:29A car guy like Chip knows where to push and where to pay tribute.
19:33Making it unique while he keeps it classic, Foose finds the line between never-before-seen touches and an unmistakable legend.
19:40Think that's easy? Well, go ahead and try if you have the spare time.
19:43All right, Mark. It's upside down. There's your Mustang.
19:48Now that's what I'm talking about.
19:50We've got our box and reinforced and also realigned upper control arm system.
20:05We're running our box, lower control arms with the Earth Ambushing Kit.
20:10And we're going to top it off with our own coil system with a set of Kony shocks.
20:17But it's not long before they realize that it's not as easy as they thought.
20:23What we're discussing here is we've got an alignment problem now that we've bolted up the rack and pinion assembly.
20:30We're all bottomed out on our adjustment, and the car's still towed in.
20:35So we're going to try and figure something out and still make it work.
20:39And if anybody can make it work, it's these guys from Meijer.
20:42So with a twist, a turn, a tap, and a fix, before you know it, problem-solving.
20:48All right, it's 5 o'clock on day three.
20:50The guys from Meijer Racing Enterprises have officially installed the front and rear suspension, and it's looking good.
20:56Well, we're opening up our big Christmas present here, getting it on the cherry picker.
21:00And we'll throw it on the engine stand or rotisserie, and we can start having a little fun with it.
21:07And once Greg and the Birdman finished with their adjustments, it's time to hook up that Ford racing engine to a brand new G-Force transmission,
21:14bringing in Courtney and one very busy socket wrench.
21:19And right now, we're just mocking everything up.
21:21We can drop it in the car, put all our new cross members and mounts in,
21:26because we've changed everything over from a six-cylinder car to a V8 car.
21:29And we can try our header clearance.
21:31We can try a whole bunch of other stuff to make sure we're not going to have conflict inside the car.
21:35So in goes more power than this Mustang ever dreamed about back when it was just a new ride off a mid-60s assembly line.
21:42The Ford racing motor and the G-Force transmission are fitting perfectly together,
21:47and more importantly, perfectly inside the Mustang.
21:52One of the last things we have to do for fit checking is basically set the carburetor, air cleaner,
21:58and put the hood down and see what we got under there for clearance.
22:01Okay, it's going to be a tall cake. Time to see just how tall.
22:05Greg, my man, what do you see?
22:08It's all good.
22:09Oh, man, that is so right on.
22:12Coming up, it's the prank that is sure to get us caught.
22:31On days two and three of this overhaul in madness,
22:33we started tinkering with a new toy for Mark's messed-up Mustang,
22:36a brand-new 450-horsepower crate motor from the Giants at Ford Racing.
22:41Now, the front end of Mark's car was so trashed we ended up just cutting it off
22:45and replacing it with one donated by memory lane.
22:47And now, as day four kicks off, we're still in a heap of rust and welds, putty, primer, and most of all, panic!
22:55We're going to mess with Mark a little bit more today.
22:58On the day that we stole his Mustang, this green Bronco was parked across the street from his house being used as a camera truck.
23:03Made him suspicious because it didn't belong in the neighborhood.
23:06So, today, we're going to drive this green Bronco past his house.
23:09At the same time, we park a flatbed tow truck in front of his house,
23:12make it look like people are casing the neighborhood, looking for other cars to steal.
23:15Hopefully, his acute sense of paranoia will come into play.
23:18So, our own Rory drives that familiar Bronco with Pennsylvania plates past Mark's house.
23:25And, as luck would have it, who's out there?
23:28None other than Mark himself.
23:30He spots the vehicle, something's registering with the man,
23:33and we are now ready for the next phase of keeping Mark off balance.
23:40Just when Mark has finished checking out the passing Bronco,
23:43up comes our flatbed driver, Eric Zavala, with Big T riding shotgun.
23:48How you doing?
23:49Not too good.
23:50Hey, I'm looking for Mr. Johnson.
23:54I don't know, but there's been some car thieves going around here.
23:58So, to see an idling tow truck around here doesn't look too good.
24:01I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you.
24:02I just had my car stolen.
24:03I couldn't hear you, sir.
24:04I had my car stolen the other day.
24:06I don't like seeing a flatbed tow truck around and a couple suspicious people.
24:11So, I think I'm just going to call the Lomita Sheriffs and you can talk to them.
24:14I don't know where you want to go, but there's been about five or six cars stolen around here,
24:18and you guys look really suspicious.
24:21We're just looking for a Bob Johnson.
24:23Alright, but try and find him. I don't know where Bob Johnson is.
24:27This neighborhood's very paranoid right now, very uneasy.
24:30So, you may be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but it ain't no good.
24:34Okay?
24:35No problem, sir.
24:36Like I said, thanks a lot.
24:37So, Mark ends up videotaping every one of our vehicles, hidden camera trucks and all.
24:42And once he's got the goods on tape, he gives Detective McKay a rapid and thorough phone call.
24:47Here he is calling right now.
24:49Ready?
24:53McKay.
24:54Hey, this is Mark Grip, the guy who got his fast pack stolen.
24:57Uh, oh yes, Mr. Grip, how you doing?
24:59I just saw the guy who had a truck when my car was stolen.
25:03My car was stolen the same day, and he's just driving around looking very suspicious,
25:07and then right behind him is a flatbed tow truck.
25:10Uh, slow down one second.
25:12When you say, um, the guy in a truck, which truck are you talking about?
25:15It was a pickup truck with a Pennsylvania license plate parked across the street
25:19the day my car got stolen.
25:21I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but these guys look like they're driving around
25:24chasing the neighborhood looking to steal another car.
25:27And, uh, it appeared that the flatbed truck was with them?
25:30No, I don't know.
25:32After you get your car stolen, you don't feel that easy.
25:36Yeah.
25:37You see idling flatbed tow trucks, and the same guy that was around when my car got stolen.
25:42Yeah, absolutely.
25:43That seems like it's more than just a coincidence.
25:45Literally pulling over and asking them what the hell they're doing.
25:48Okay.
25:49I'm gonna send a couple units over there.
25:50Thank you very much for the information.
25:51I'll call you back if I have any leads or anything like that.
25:54Thanks.
25:55Okay.
25:56But if the car's ever gonna have those perfect sail panels and that Shelby hood, we gotta
26:10get this Mustang ready to go out for paint.
26:12And just when we think we've discovered all the rust that there can possibly be, a frustrated
26:16Brian comes up with even more.
26:18You know, it's just never ending.
26:19There's more rust.
26:20I mean, it's gotta stop.
26:22It's gotta stop.
26:23Rust or not, Team Magnaflow needs to size up and test fit the new exhaust system.
26:32For these guys, it's always a lot of plumbing and inventing.
26:35Creating a unique set of pipes for almost every car model thrown their way.
26:39Here we are again.
26:41Bumper land.
26:42We're gonna move the bumper in about a half inch on either side.
26:46Just gonna slice it right through the middle.
26:48Squeeze it.
26:49Get it tighter, the body.
26:51And then weld the brackets right on and get rid of the bolts.
26:54Pull the master back.
26:55It'll look really nice and tidy.
26:57And I think Chip will be happy with that.
27:00Customizing and fitting a bumper takes a lot of cutting, welding, testing, and redoing.
27:06All until the fit is perfect.
27:08And all that work is on a strict timetable here at Overholland
27:11because there always has to be room in the schedule for the chrome house.
27:14They have to have their time with the remade appliance.
27:17Still taking some more fitting than this.
27:20It's that eternal bumper dance.
27:22An activity that's a required drill here at Overholland
27:25as anticipated as the next paint job or prank job.
27:28And to complicate matters even more,
27:31on this build Chip wants to create a custom balance for that front area.
27:35What I'm looking at right now is when I put this front balance on,
27:39what I want to do is actually get rid of this hole
27:42and make this all smooth with a peak.
27:44Of course Chip loves a clean and streamlined look,
27:47and it's clear that he'll go to no end to create just the right lines for the car.
27:51He'll even pull a pro like Sam onto the project.
27:54Right now they're going to pull the engine out.
27:58We're going to get this thing outside, get it loaded up on the flatbed
28:02so we can get it over to M-tier so they can start the body work.
28:05Guess what just got here?
28:06Diff Works arrives with the new rear differential.
28:09While the new diff arrived, which gives us perfect opportunity now to mock everything up,
28:15put the engine back in place.
28:17We can get some drive shaft dimensions for tomorrow.
28:20All right, it's getting close to the end of day four.
28:23This is ready to go to the paint shop.
28:24So M-2, we're on our way.
28:26Hey, why won't this thing go anywhere?
28:28I'm trying, man.
28:34Going to paint!
28:36Of course, we're never too rushed to pass up a gag from Chip.
28:40It's a little cold out tonight.
28:42Gotta go put a new coat on.
28:50The gang here at M-2 work hard and they work fast,
28:53knowing just how much has to get done in a non-existent amount of time.
28:57And of course, Chip is here plugging away as well.
29:00All right, we're headed into day five.
29:02It's three o'clock in the morning and that's a great vision.
29:05These guys are hustling.
29:07Chelsea stopped in to see us and give us the scoop on how our dad's doing.
29:12He is freaking out.
29:14Are you enjoying this one?
29:16I'm really enjoying it.
29:17It's kind of hard to see my dad like that, but it's worth it.
29:20He's thinking if they find this car,
29:24then it'll be a sign from his dad.
29:27Does your dad think he's going to get the fastback back?
29:30No.
29:31No?
29:32He thinks it's in Mexico right now.
29:33So he's lost all hope.
29:34Yeah.
29:37Time to call Mark the Mark.
29:38Hi, how are you doing?
29:39I'm doing well and I think that you're going to be doing well in a couple minutes.
29:43The unit that I sent to your neighborhood was able to pick up the trail of the Bronco
29:47and we followed it to what I believe is a chop shop in Torrance.
29:52I knew that guy was facing you.
29:54I've worked here for a long time.
29:56I know when things are a little out of the ordinary.
29:58What we're going to do now is we're going to case this place for a few days,
30:02take note of who comes in and out, which vehicles go in and out of the place,
30:06and I'm hoping in a couple days we're going to make a move on it.
30:09Great.
30:10So, yeah, I will definitely be in touch and thank you again, Mr. Greep.
30:15Okay.
30:16Goodbye.
30:25You want attention to detail when it comes to your car interior?
30:28Then you want Melanie working the inside of your ride.
30:31This moto-style team is one dedicated and committed set of artists.
30:36The moon replaced the sun more than a few hours ago
30:39and Melanie is still hard at work.
30:42Back with the paint guys over at M2,
30:44the gang is masking and taping up a storm.
30:47And against all of the rust-stained odds in the world,
30:49this rebuilt body is about to get some primer.
30:52And before you know it, the Mustang gallops into the boot.
30:56Okay, let's spray some primer.
30:57And as that primer is sprayed,
30:59the body of a few days ago is both hard to remember
31:02and hard to forget.
31:03A rust-dang of a Mustang that has been reworked,
31:06re-blocked, re-fitted,
31:08and in some areas, flat-out replaced.
31:13Coming up, get ready, Mark.
31:14This new engine is going to take you for a ride.
31:17On days four and five of overhauling Mark's 65 Mustang Fastback,
31:32we kept the phony phone calls flying to our unsuspecting Mark,
31:36telling him that the full search is on for his stolen property.
31:39Actually, Mark's going to be really happy that we stole his property
31:41because now that his rust bucket is reworked and restored,
31:44it's on its way to a custom foos finish,
31:46deluxe interior by Moto Style,
31:48and of course that power plant supplied by Ford Racing.
31:50And now as day six runs out of the starting gate,
31:53this Mustang is starting to gallop.
31:55Before long, it's going to be a photo finish,
31:57a horse race of a schedule demanding that we stay firmly on the inside track.
32:02Come on in.
32:04At the top of day six, our insiders stopped by to see how far we've come.
32:08Now remember, they've lived with this rust bucket for over a decade and a half.
32:14Of course, the hard part was convincing them that this really was Mark's Fastback.
32:19That is so cool.
32:22Oh, that's amazing.
32:26After the last prank where the tow truck drove by and everything,
32:29we came home and he was completely ballistic.
32:32He was really, really upset.
32:34So now he's feeling really good, like maybe there's a lead
32:37and maybe there's a little chance that he might get the car back
32:41and if they catch him, he'd be happy too.
32:43So that's where he's at now.
32:45He talks a lot about, I'm going to help him catch the crooks, the wicked people.
32:50Well, sorry Mark, we have to put you through a little bit of hell
32:53before we give you your slice of heaven.
32:55Yeah, and he's going to be in heaven.
32:57He's going to love it.
33:00He'll only love it when it's done.
33:01So time to get back in the booth with Doug so the painting can begin.
33:06Using Ford's factory specs, Doug's going to go Shelby with a set of those famous racing stripes.
33:16All right, it's day six.
33:17Doug's got the white on.
33:18We're laying out the two stripes.
33:20Doug will come back in, put the blue on, pull the stripes,
33:23make sure they're all clean and get the clear on it and get it back over to Chicane.
33:27Sid and Kathy will color sand and rub and the rest of the crew will be all assembling.
33:32Those who know great interiors know Melanie Morimoto.
33:35Recently, she's taken a little time off, but we were lucky to get her back into the shop for this very cool and very special build.
33:41Mark, I'm really enjoying working on this car.
33:45I forgot how good it felt and I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity.
33:48I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
33:51Wow, as if one project wasn't enough, now Joe's taking the time to tweak up his shifter cart.
33:57And with the machine soon primed, Joe has an offer for Mark.
34:00Hey Mark, I'll let you ride mine if you let me ride yours.
34:03It might seem like a nutty offer until you see how fun these little cars are.
34:09Now that's what I call traveling.
34:12That thing is so much fun. This thing is the biggest rush I've ever had.
34:15Okay Joe, you've had your rush. Back to the Mustang.
34:19Doug's still at it, but we're getting close. Real close.
34:24Doug just finished putting the sealer on. He'll get the color on.
34:27We can untape it, make sure everything's clean, clear it, get it back to Chicane tomorrow and start assembling.
34:33And none of that can happen a moment too soon.
34:36The original condition of the car has put our clocks into tailspins, putting days into the bodywork and just now seeing some color.
34:43So far it looks like those Shelby stripes are coming through, making an amazing car fly right off the cool charts.
34:49And now it's back over to Chicane Sport Tuning where all the rest of our remaining overhaul and hours
34:55will become one unending day. After all, nobody's going to sleep with this much work to do.
35:02Alright, it's 10 o'clock on Morning 7. The car rolled out of paint just two hours ago.
35:07Basically, we have one day to assemble this Mustang.
35:12To make sure this top-notch paint job really looks its best, we bring in Sid and Kathy from Winner's Circle and Jeff from Classy Cars.
35:19Together, they buff this thing up right.
35:22Okay, so it's morning 7. I'm here with Moto and her part of the job is done.
35:29Now it's all about finding the right time, moments, and install the seats, right?
35:33Yeah, I got to chase the guys out of the car. Give me room to work.
35:36Good luck.
35:37Yeah.
35:38Alright, Mark, it's a moment of truth. What you're looking at here is a 347 cubic inch Z-head Ford Racing motor.
35:53The latest and greatest hooked up to a G-Force T5 speed transmission.
35:57This is pretty much Christmas morning for you, buddy. You got a sight to put this bad boy in?
36:01Yeah, man, let's do it.
36:02Let's do it.
36:03With all the body work, what a bit of luck to have Mustang Joe and two smart guys from Ford Research gearing up that big new toy from Ford Racing.
36:11With time running out fast, Courtney and Chip power on over to Shoreline Motoring to pick up Mark's new rims and tires.
36:30The Mustang is getting foos wheels all around along with a lot of brand new tread thanks to BF Goodrich.
36:37Okay, they got the goods. Now Courtney and Chip got to roll even faster and get the gear on up to that 65 Stang.
36:46Are you clear? Mark, you got new wheels and tires.
36:50And once they're up there, oh man, they are true things of beauty.
36:54With Clarion doing the audio, this pony is going to rock.
36:57Well, we have to finish up the rear trunk paneling and put the stereo in and we should be done from there.
37:03Mechanic and training.
37:04Doesn't matter, Mark, it'll still run great.
37:06Okay, time to start this thing up.
37:10We think we're ready for our first trial run.
37:13Woo-hoo!
37:18Yeah!
37:20Woo-hoo!
37:21First time, here we go!
37:23Woo-hoo!
37:24Woo-hoo!
37:25Woo-hoo!
37:26Woo-hoo!
37:27Woo-hoo!
37:28Woo-hoo!
37:29Woo-hoo!
37:30Woo-hoo!
37:31With that engine now working, it's reassembly for the rest of the car.
37:34And as that reassembly goes on, the final pieces of the interior are still being built.
37:39Isn't that pretty?
37:40All right, 5.30 in the morning, D-Day.
37:44And that means we're going to be giving this thing back in about 11 hours.
37:49Coming up, time to take our mark on one last ride.
37:55On day 6 and 7 of this overhaul and adventure, we race to finish the 65 Mustang of our tennis
38:10instructor, Mark.
38:11Working with the A-Team and a whole swarm of workers who are bound and determined to make
38:16this car a winner.
38:17And now as we get ready to give the Mustang back to Mark, we better get done on time.
38:21Because if we don't, one little pony can make us all look like a bunch of jackasses.
38:26All right, it's D-Day.
38:28And although the car's looking unbelievably cool, there's still a long way to go.
38:33The A-Team scrambles to finish assembling the car, getting closer and closer to that
38:37time when the Mustang is going back to Mark.
38:46All right, here we go.
38:47Last phone prank of the show.
38:48Hello?
38:49Mr. Green?
38:50Yes?
38:51Mr. McKay?
38:52Yes?
38:53All right, we've taken down the location, sir.
38:54And I'm going to need you to come down here and identify your vehicle.
38:57I'll be there in 20 minutes.
38:59Okay, we'll be waiting on you.
39:00Bye.
39:01All right, well, the mark is on his way.
39:03We're expecting him in about 20 minutes.
39:05Not only is the interior not installed yet, but we're having a spark issue and the engine
39:10won't refire.
39:11Melanie is just now able to get in for a serious amount of time, working like crazy so she
39:15can get her interior installed.
39:17And the Ford boys are pulling out all the stops, trying to figure out the engine problem.
39:21So with one last try as the clock runs dry.
39:24Yeah!
39:25And everything is finished in the nick of time.
39:36With a few seconds left for a Foose logo and a quick polish.
39:40And we are ready for a big prank and one king-sized reveal.
39:45So here comes Mark to our chop shop, ready to ID the pieces of his car.
39:50How you doing, sir?
39:51A little better, hopefully.
39:52Detective, okay?
39:53This is my supervisor, Officer Ford.
39:54How you doing, sir?
39:55Good.
39:56Just step in here.
39:57Got a couple of vehicles inside, one of which is a 65 Mustang.
40:02I'm not sure.
40:03Some parts off my car right there.
40:04That does look familiar.
40:05It looks like every piece here is from my car.
40:06Yeah, these guys are looking at me.
40:07No, no, no.
40:08Hey!
40:09You guys keep your eyes away from here.
40:10See, they're going to threaten me.
40:11Who's the smart guy?
40:12Who's the smart guy?
40:13Who's the smart guy?
40:14Who's the smart guy?
40:15Who's the smart guy?
40:16Who's the smart guy?
40:17We've got so much on these guys right now.
40:18There's so much inside the building.
40:19I don't like them.
40:20Mr. Grandpa, I'm going to have to ask you to step over here.
40:21I never saw a person.
40:22Well, just for procedural purposes, I'm going to have to pick a couple of these guys up.
40:23No, I don't want to.
40:24I never saw a person and I won't be able to identify them.
40:25I swear to God, I promise to you, it's not going to do you any good.
40:26None of these guys are going to be a bother to you.
40:27I wouldn't worry about anything.
40:28I need you to take a look at these guys.
40:29Okay?
40:30Tell me they know you don't recognize them.
40:31Okay?
40:32Okay?
40:33I need you to take a look at these guys.
40:34Tell me they know you don't recognize them.
40:35Okay?
40:36They need you to say either yes or no.
40:37Okay.
40:38I don't want any of you guys to say anything.
40:55All right?
41:01I mis agreed.
41:04This guy is a ringleader.
41:05He's actually one of the guys I think who actually stole your vehicle.
41:12You recognize him? Come a little bit closer.
41:15A little bit closer. You don't recognize this guy?
41:18He's on overhauling.
41:20No way. Yes, sir. No way. Yes, sir.
41:24Are you kidding me? This happened to me?
41:27Congratulations.
41:29This is Chip Foose.
41:32How you feeling right now, Mark?
41:33The swing of emotions, you guys have no idea.
41:37Did my wife know?
41:39Sure, she was in on it. She's our insider.
41:41He's the ringleader.
41:42I'm going to have to take you out to dinner.
41:45You're going to be all right. You're not dreaming.
41:47I can't believe this is happening.
41:49You're not having a heart attack.
41:51I can't believe this is happening.
41:53Get ready to be happy, buddy.
41:59Wow! Are you kidding me?
42:02Whoo-hoo-hoo!
42:04Unbelievable!
42:10Oh, wow! Look at that!
42:12Oh, man!
42:14One week, two fooses, gearheads from Detroit, and a team that's brought us everything from a great shop to a great interior.
42:20This is the stuff that went into this 1965 Mustang Fastback.
42:24And don't forget the carload of first aid that came from M2, Ford Racing, and our good friends over at Year One.
42:30I could have worked my whole life and never done anything like that.
42:34Courtney!
42:36Thank you for the lesson.
42:37Wow!
42:38Love it!
42:39I can't believe it!
42:40Oh, my dad would be so happy.
42:42So, Mark, you know Chip Foose, the designer, captain of the team.
42:46Unbelievable.
42:47Here comes Sam Foose, Chip's father.
42:49He was part of the build all week, too.
42:51Wow!
42:53So, as Mark meets the rest of the A-Team, it's clear that he still can't comprehend the whole thing.
42:57This was one big operation.
42:59I'll do it for you.
43:00Wow!
43:01You kind of Shelby-ized it a little bit.
43:04And you could say that the team pretty much Shelby-ized the engine compartment as well.
43:10Woohoo!
43:11The car has it all.
