01:37It's a plan involving a Charger that a family has handed down for three generations, about to be made into Merrick's dream ride.
01:45But first, we got to go get it.
01:49It's a perfect Las Vegas night for me to steal a car.
01:52Along with the guys, of course.

01:59Our Mark's family has a repair place here in Vegas that goes by the name of Best Auto Shop.

02:11Chris hits the Rat Pack lingo here in Vegas.
02:14And even mild-mannered Foos is jazzed by the thrill of Sin City.
02:18Taking it to the strip.
02:19It's more like taking it to the car carrier and then to the convention center for SEMA.
02:23That's the Specialty Equipment Market Association that opens in five days.
02:27But we got to start early to unveil this car on time.
02:34All right, well, there she is.
02:36Merrick's 67 Dodge Charger.
02:38It's going to be a great show.
02:40Big episode of overhauling.

03:47because it seems that they have kept this old Dodge
03:49in pretty darn good shape.
03:52Well, it looks okay from the outside.
03:54Already, we've discovered that this old car
03:56has the inner workings of, guess what, an old car,
03:59complete with bad brakes and a lot of aged and outdated gear.
04:02Still, it has retained its cool car status,
04:04and that's why Chip is excited.
04:06Eager to seize a charmer and take it off the charts,
04:08making it into something that will even wow the crowd here at SEMA.
04:12It's a challenge that fires up Boose.
04:14Making a rusty car solid again is one thing.
04:17Try taking a stylish Charger and creating it into a ride
04:19that makes the original car look flat-out plain.
04:25We are in Vegas.
04:26Let's strip it.

04:30We gotta get this car taken apart now.
04:33It's, ah, there we go.
04:35Piece by piece, Merrick's 67 Dodge Charger
04:38is becoming one big pile of parts.
04:41It's disassembly that's also a tough workout.

04:47It's a strong team here on this build,
04:49even though they sometimes need just a wee bit of adjustment
04:52in order to stay finely tuned.
04:54Well, I'm not the only one here with a major screw loose.
04:57In fact, I happen to know the approximate time.
04:59By 2 o'clock on day one, deconstruction,
05:02but we're having a little hold-up.
05:03Why?
05:03The wheels won't come off.
05:05Why?
05:05Locking lug nuts.
05:07Merrick didn't leave the key in the car, obviously,
05:09because he didn't want the wheels to get ripped off.
05:10Smart move.
05:11But Foose has a plan.
05:12He's going to fabricate a wheel key.
05:15Nothing is stronger than the resolve of Foose,
05:17especially when he wants to get somebody else's wheels off
05:20and put his wheels on a car.
05:21Job done.
05:22And elsewhere...
05:23The engine doesn't look too bad,
05:25but I think with a Hemi,
05:27he'll be a whole lot more impressed.
05:28Well, I'm impressed
05:29with just how fast this car is coming to park.
05:31And with a lot of help from our year one team,
05:33the Charger is giving up its headers.
05:35And that means that a major removal
05:37is just around the corner.
05:38So as that old engine gets the heave-ho,
05:40it all becomes a big tank.
05:42I'm glad I'm not unwiring you two.
05:44Okay, we need to get a little help
05:45from our crafty and devious overhauling insiders.
05:48There's nothing left.

05:56How did it go for you?
05:57Well, my grandmother bought it in 67.
05:59And then when she got arthritis
06:01and too old to drive it,
06:02she gave it to my husband.
06:05My husband passed away in 98.
06:08And when my son got old enough,
06:09we're going to fix up that car.
06:11And so we gave it to him for Christmas
06:13after he turned 16.
06:15What kind of guy is Merrick?
06:16He loves music.
06:18Thinks he's going to be a rock star.
06:20So what do you think he's going to do
06:22when he finds out it's pissing?
06:25He's going to start bawling?
06:27I think he's going to cuss,
06:28but she doesn't think so.

07:24the real shock comes
07:25when the ride ends up
07:26looking as cool as the sketch.
07:27That's the magic of our boy Chip,
07:29a guy who can have you swooning
07:30while the vehicle is still on paper.
07:33That's my first idea
07:34of what we could do.

07:39So he gets his red and black
07:40with something that's very subtle
07:42and he would go with the car.

07:45Now we build it like this.

07:49The A-team has a long night ahead of them
07:51with plenty of body work already on deck.
07:53Chip decides to have a few team meetings,
07:55getting plans worked out
07:56in these early hours,
07:57addressing every corner of the car.
07:59And once each individual crew is informed,

08:03head back to the body work,
08:04reinventing the car
08:05until the clock tells Foose
08:06that already they've been at this
08:08for a long time.
08:10Quarter four in the morning
08:11is still day one.
08:12It's about to roll into day two.
08:13Got to get this done
08:13as soon as possible
08:14so we can get this ready
08:15and over to paint.
08:16He's a determined young man.

08:22Morning of day two update.
08:24Well, the car's in great condition.
08:26Everyone's really happy.
08:27They're eager to work on it.
08:28It's not, oh, God, there's rust.
08:30So all in all, it's a good car.

08:36So what are you up to right now, Charlie?
08:37Well, what we're doing now

08:39the top of the quarter.
08:41The way it was built

08:42had a pinch weld here.

08:44is we're actually cutting
08:45the pinch weld off
08:46and then welding that seam up.
08:48That change will lengthen the car,
08:50making Overhawn literally corner
08:52our most experienced man.
08:53You know, it's good to see
08:54everybody just hustling,
08:55working away on the car,
08:56but I got to tell you,
08:58my heart's breaking right now
08:59because all the experience here,
09:02nobody has near the experience
09:03that my father has.
09:05And Overhawn has just kind of
09:07shoved him back in the corner
09:08working on the car.

09:10This is the legendary Sam Fuss.
09:12He's currently working
09:13on the body in the back of the car.
09:15Now, Sam, you guys disappeared

09:21it didn't fit as nice as that,
09:22but we had to extend the quarter out
09:24to make it look right
09:25and finish the bumper.

09:52with a waterjet cutter before,
09:54and I heard that we're gonna
09:55have one here on the stage
09:56at SEMA,
09:57and I thought,

09:59are we gonna make with it?

10:15in the rear car.

10:16we came up with this design
10:17that you see on the screen here.

10:19is implement Chip's design
10:21by cutting this piece of metal
10:22on the Calypso waterjet system.
10:24Metal's on the table,
10:25machine's fired up.

10:27The computer guides
10:28the robotic cutting tool,
10:30and the Calypso
10:30actually cuts through the metal
10:32with a laser-like jet of water.
10:34Well, here you have it, Merrick,
10:35your custom-designed foos grill.

10:38Well, this is the door panel.
10:39They're gonna be wrapped in leather,
10:40red, as you can see.
10:42We have the center console.
10:42The center console's gonna be
10:43in black leather as well.
10:45And we have the Cobra seats
10:47that just came in today.
10:48We gotta talk to Chip
10:49and see what he decided to do.
10:51On the other end of our tent,
10:53Chip begins designing
10:54the custom Cobras
10:55from Merrick's charged-up charger,
10:57making the seats
10:57into one-of-a-kind
10:58red-and-black foos-step creations.
11:01They're gonna be stunners
11:02covered in keastin leather
11:03and brought to life
11:04by the team at Build Dunn,
11:05guys who know how to create an interior
11:07and do it with style.
11:08Meanwhile, back at the engine department...
11:11We're putting the mock-up block
11:14and transmission in here
11:15so we can make the mounts,
11:17put the intake manifold on it,
11:19and make sure that the carburetor
11:21is gonna clear the hood.
11:22If not, we'll have to make
11:23some minor modifications
11:24on the hood.

11:29We've been working real hard

11:30We've got the motor in the car.

11:36he wants to put a shaker hood
11:37on the charger,
11:38a car that's an E-body.
11:40On Mopars,
11:41shakers are only seen on B-bodies,
11:43and once his measuring is complete...

12:24at SEMA in Las Vegas.

12:26He's from AFC Finishing Systems,
12:27the company that provided us
12:28with our paint booth for this show.
12:30This is a state-of-the-art
12:31downdraft spray booth.
12:32It has 1,075 BTU air makeup.
12:35What that means is basically
12:36you'll be able to cure
12:37at 170 degrees.
12:39So we're going to get the 67
12:40into the booth,
12:41primed, painted, baked,
12:42back to the set,
12:43get it back to America on time.
12:44The car needs a lot of body work
12:46before it's ready
12:47for that brand-new paint booth.
12:49The prep work always takes some time.
12:51You always want it to be correct.
12:53After it gets painted,
12:54you can't go back.
12:55Of course, more body work
12:56means later to paint,
12:57but these guys are determined
12:59to get it all right.
13:01We're just hanging
13:02all the fenders, doors,
13:04all the parts,
13:05get them all lined up.
13:06It's looking more like
13:07a finished car by the minute,
13:08but it's still not time
13:09for the paint just yet.
13:11There's a check of the hood
13:12to make sure it's all a fit,
13:13and that requires help
13:14in the engine compartment.
13:16So, Andrew, in you go.

13:21that the hood is good
13:22as the time for paint approaches,
13:24and it looks like that moment

14:02on the back of the magnet.
