00:00He's Chris Jacobs.
00:08That's his face there.
00:09That pretty face is AJ's.
00:11And that face, I think, is Chip Foose's.
00:13On today's overhaul on Frederick's The Mark.
00:15His car is a 68 Pontiac Le Mans,
00:17and the game we're playing is reinvent the ride.
00:20It's all going down at California Performance Transmission.
00:23And our insider is Tanya.
00:25We need her help because as Frederick's wife,
00:27she's going to come in real handy.
00:28Our pranks will shock our mark all week long.
00:32While Foose and friends fabricate a 68 for a Le Mans lover
00:35who's a maniac about his Pontiac.
00:37Here, where the owners misinformed
00:39while his car is made remarkable.
00:41So if you dig Grand Theft Auto, you're just in time
00:43because it's happening now.
00:45Sooner than now, here on Overhauling.
00:47It's all the change.
00:52I am gasoline.
00:56That's right.
00:56Frederick is a hairstylist,
01:15and he is in for the wildest week of his life.
01:18He's a cool, big-hearted guy who's a husband,
01:21a father, an Overhauling fan,
01:22and a man who desperately wants to someday restore
01:25his 1968 Pontiac Le Mans.
01:28His wife, Tanya, is our insider,
01:30and she's going to help us make this happen for Frederick.
01:365.50 a.m.
01:37We're about a couple miles away from Frederick's house.
01:40We're going to transform myself into a bum right now
01:42and then go steal his car.
01:43So let's begin the transformation
01:45from mild-mannered Chris
01:47into scary homeless guy Mike.
01:51Get out of my way.
01:54It's 5.50 a.m.,
01:55and we're a couple of miles away from Frederick's house.
01:58Chris has transformed himself into a poor soul
02:00who's going to end up sleeping behind Frederick's Le Mans.
02:03So let's take a look,
02:04now that he's changed from mild-mannered Jacobs
02:06into a man with no place to call his own.
02:11So here we are in the parking structure
02:12of the Mark's apartment.
02:14After already finding Chris sleeping behind the car,
02:17Frederick woke the building manager
02:18to help shoo the visitor away.
02:20Now both men are trying to deal
02:22with a guest who won't wake up.
02:25Yo.
02:27Wake up, man.
02:29Get up.
02:31Yo, yo, wake up.
02:33Frederick's late,
02:34and the sleeper won't budge,
02:35so the car gets started.
02:36Frederick, do not run him over.
02:40We need him for the rest of the show.
02:42Can I have a dollar?
02:45Can I have a dollar?
02:49God bless you, man.
02:50Where are you?
02:51God bless you.
02:52All right.
02:53Did you put it in here for the last night?
02:56Is it this back door?
02:58Do you remember?
03:00You don't remember.
03:00Chris is a great door.
03:02Chris is a great door.
03:02Okay.
03:03With our Mark off to work,
03:04it's time to raid the garage
03:05and take his beloved ride.
03:06Ah, Chris isn't just a good imposter.
03:07He's also a great doorstop.
03:08So the boys get Frederick's Le Mans onto the tow truck,
03:12and soon Chris goes on his merry way,
03:14hopefully in search of a shower.
03:15Complete success on the steel.
03:32Frederick, you are a cool guy, man.
03:34You got good karma and a great heart.
03:37You gave me a dollar.
03:38No hesitation.
03:39You wanted to help me out.
03:40That's cool.
03:40And you know what?
03:41It's coming back to you.
03:42Not only are we giving you your car back in seven days,
03:45we'll give you the dollar back, too.
03:53Ah, yes.
03:54Another beautiful day to steal a car.
03:57I'm freshly showered.
03:58That's the only way Joel would allow me to get into his tow truck.
04:01We got Frederick 68 Le Mans up on the bed.
04:03Let's get the A-team out here and see what they think.
04:06There's a fender missing.
04:08See, the fender's actually bolted on,
04:09but it's rotted away, so there's...
04:11There's no fasteners left.
04:12I think the biggest problem they're going to have is sheet metal.
04:15Other than that, the car's in pretty good shape,
04:16and it's all there.
04:19It's a real mess,
04:20but the guys seem to like this car a lot.
04:22I like it.
04:23It's going to be real interesting
04:24when we get all this paint and all the filler off
04:26and see how nice the body actually is,
04:28or it isn't,
04:30but it's got character.
04:32Time to get this character
04:34into California Performance Transmission.
04:36And speaking of characters,
04:38here's our own team captain, Chip Foose.
04:40Chris is right.
04:41Chip's a character.
04:42But our insider has warned us
04:43that Frederick is one of the true
04:45and great characters of all time.
04:47Well, if this is the state of his dream car,
04:48he does have a lot of personality.
04:54This ride is true and classic overhauling.
04:56A needy wreck from the golden age
04:58of when style rolled on four wheels.
05:00A relic our team can really sink their teeth into.
05:03Someone has already sunk their teeth into this car
05:06because it's one chewed-up Pontiac.
05:08Already, the team is worried about the body work
05:10since recent rides have turned our D-Day into Dread Day,
05:14thanks to a time clock
05:15that makes no allowances for rust.
05:17Okay, time to get to the bottom of this mystery machine
05:20and take the whole thing apart.
05:25The real mystery is this.
05:27What is holding this old car together?
05:34We're in Grumpy.
05:35He's another one of our OPG guys.
05:37What are your impressions of the car?
05:38It's rough.
05:39It's going to take a lot of work.
05:40A lot of sheet metal is going to have to be replaced
05:42or repaired.
05:43We'll have a good amount of it at work, so
05:44we'll be able to hook it up.
05:46I grew up around all this stuff.
05:48My dad's...
05:49My dad, my uncles, grandfathers,
05:52they were all into cars, hot rods, trucks, boats, whatever.
05:56So, it's kind of a natural deal.
05:58Well, Grumpy, if you like the rooftop as it was,
06:01make your goodbye final to the vinyl.
06:03And now, time for a little dendrochronology.
06:06You know how when a tree gets old
06:07and they cut it down, it has, like, growth rings?
06:10Right.
06:10This has, like, bondo layers.
06:12Like, you can tell how old the car is.
06:181976.
06:19Oh, there's 1983 right there for sure.
06:23Now that you see, Craig,
06:23this is going to be a long and involved process.
06:26How are you feeling about it right now on day one?
06:28Oh, I feel good.
06:29We're going to get it over to Media Blaster.
06:31That always opens up.
06:32Is there going to be anything left?
06:34Probably not.
06:35By now, we're certain this car is a bonafide rust bucket.
06:38The next step of this spusification
06:39is to take off the front clip
06:41and get this body blasted.
06:44It's a lot of progress in a pretty short time.
06:47But with a car this old,
06:48we're going to need all the time we can get.
06:50It's afternoon on day one.
06:51The ride is torn apart
06:52and on its way to the Media Blaster.
06:54Let's hope the car survives.
06:56On to other matters,
06:57let's meet our insider,
06:58Frederick's wife, Tanya.
07:00Actually, I'd like to know
07:01what he knows about the car already.
07:03Actually, he is completely baffled
07:05but how it was taken.
07:08When he discovered the car was gone,
07:10he was so bummed out
07:11and he told me,
07:12oh, I kind of thought it was overhauling.
07:15And I told him,
07:16that show was canceled.
07:18I had to remove the channel TLC
07:20completely from the lineup.
07:22That's a good insider right there.
07:24So he knows Chris?
07:26Yes.
07:26But he didn't recognize you?
07:28No, not as the homeless person.
07:30And he gave you a dollar?
07:31He gave me a dollar.
07:32Extremely cool.
07:33Now, what did Frederick want to do to the car?
07:35Do you have any idea?
07:36Well...
07:37His plans for it?
07:38Have you ever seen the movie
07:39Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome?
07:41Yes.
07:41That with some chrome.
07:43Mad Max.
07:44That's hardcore.
07:45Mad Max.
07:45He likes chrome.
07:47Chrome.
07:48What man doesn't?
07:49Wheels and tires.
07:50Do you know what he would have done with it?
07:52Large wheels.
07:53You know, not too big.
07:54You know how you do.
07:55Okay.
07:56Yeah.
07:56Flavor.
07:57Door handles.
07:58You think you'd want door handles
07:59or eliminate them?
08:00Me, personally,
08:01I think the remote key entry
08:03is really fly.
08:04Door handles?
08:05Gone.
08:07Fly.
08:08Get ready, Frederick,
08:09because this man's going to mess with you all week.
08:12Yeah.
08:15We're here at OPG,
08:16Original Parts Group,
08:17with Tony.
08:18He's the man amongst men here.
08:19We're going to pull some parts
08:20for Frederick's 68 Le Mans.
08:22They've got a beautiful warehouse here.
08:24A pair of replacement 68 Le Mans quarter panels.
08:26Brand new front fenders for the car right now.
08:28Brand new 1968.
08:30A black dash pad with AC.
08:32Fresh new upholstery in black.
08:35Three-inch rear springs right here.
08:37Nice.
08:38Well, I think that's everything we need, huh?
08:40That's it right now.
08:40Well, let's load this stuff in the Grumpy's truck
08:42and get back to California Performance Transmission.
08:44You got it.
08:47Okay, the car is back from media blasting,
08:49and you know what?
08:50It doesn't look like the A-Team is thrilled.
08:54Have you ever seen an airplane from the 1940s
08:56that looked something like this?
08:57Looks like an airplane got shot down or something
09:00or pulled it out of the rear of the triangle.
09:02Well, actually, it looks worse than that.
09:04Okay, Frederick, we got your car back from the media blaster.
09:10I don't want to say it's in rough shape.
09:12This is horrid, but it's in rough shape.
09:16How rough?
09:17Well, the body work begins in a way
09:19that redefines the word immediately.
09:26From the looks of it,
09:28it's going to be an easy one
09:29to replace the parts that are rotted.
09:31And as the night goes on,
09:32the team finds more problems
09:33resulting in an update that's less upbeat
09:35than we'd like to hear.
09:37Quarter to 12, almost day two.
09:40We got a lot of body work to do.
09:49Okay, ladies and gents,
09:51we have got to hurry
09:52and get that old, tired machinery off the frame
09:54because it is essential that powder coating take place.
09:57And by the way,
09:58do you happen to know the time there,
09:59my good Craigomeister?
10:01All right, it's 1 p.m., day two.
10:03Getting ready to get the frame over to Alex.
10:05The media resurfacing, get it blasted
10:06so we can get it powder coated.
10:08Everything's looking pretty good.
10:10Chip and Tanya discussed the new design elements
10:17for Frederic's Le Mans.
10:19Our insider says that anything Chip does to the car
10:21will be okay with Frederic.
10:23Our Mark is a crazed fan of the show
10:25and greatly admires the Fus vision.
10:28But even with that sort of leeway,
10:29some of the major elements were established
10:31with our insider,
10:32such as a color scheme,
10:34wheel size,
10:34and the style of the interior.
10:35If all goes as this drawing indicates,
11:02that old car will soon be forgotten.
11:04As Frederic's Pontiac evolves
11:05into one fully Fusified dream ride.
11:08All right, Frederic.
11:09Get your car.
11:13Our prank master art is going to be playing an agent
11:15from the Environmental Protection Agency
11:17named Ray Janik.
11:18Ray's going to tell our Mark Frederick
11:20that his car was leaking toxic material,
11:22and that's why it was taken.
11:23Now, what does Frederic need to do to get it back?
11:30Listen, we have a matter to discuss
11:32because we have impounded your car.
11:35Why did you take my car?
11:37The reason why we took your car
11:38is because your car was leaking toxic materials.
11:43You know, your liquids are flowing to the storm drain
11:45and they're going out to the ocean.
11:46So, how about if I meet you at 2 o'clock?
11:49Okay.
11:50We'll see you soon.
11:51Thanks, bro.
11:52Okay.
11:56Body work-wise, what up, Chip?
11:58We still have two porters to put on.
12:00Still got the back window to finish.
12:02I think there's a few patch panels
12:04to put on the floors,
12:05and you still got to fit all the bumpers
12:07before this can leave for paint.
12:08This Pontiac is the holy grail of all Pontiacs.
12:13And we're going to save it.
12:18At our Mark's apartment,
12:20Art shows up as our EPA agent,
12:22ready to explain why Frederic Salmons was lifted.
12:24I'm Yannick with the EPA.
12:25How are you today?
12:26Okay.
12:27What's up, Ray?
12:28Listen, I've got to ask you a couple questions
12:29about your car.
12:32Were you aware that the vehicle was in violation
12:34of the EPA Clean Act?
12:36No, sir.
12:37You were not aware of that?
12:38Yes, sir.
12:39I would have done something.
12:40Right.
12:41Anything that, especially if the Environmental Protection
12:45would have said, hey, there's a problem with your thing,
12:49you know?
12:49Where was the car parked at?
12:50Right here.
12:51Right down here?
12:52I'll show you, sir.
12:57Oh, I see.
12:58There's a drain right by your car.
12:59Yeah, for sure.
13:00Yes.
13:01That doesn't look good.
13:02Well, let's, you know what?
13:03Let's run some tests here.
13:06Okay?
13:07All right.
13:07Let's spread some of this powder around here.
13:13Now, this spray that I'm going to spray on here
13:15should decide if there's any bad toxins.
13:17Oh, my goodness.
13:21Look at it go.
13:23You see that?
13:27That stuff comes from your car.
13:29This is all downhill.
13:30It goes out to the ocean.
13:33You're killing God's little creatures.
13:35You know what?
13:36I'm not here to get mad at you.
13:38I'm just here to help you out.
13:39We're going to take care of this mess.
13:41I'm going to have the hazmat team come in here,
13:43clean it all up for you.
13:44You saw how that all bubbled up, you know?
13:46That stuff is nasty, man.
13:47That's crazy.
13:48Yeah, it is.
13:49Why didn't nobody call me before now?
13:51Right.
13:51You know what?
13:52I'm setting a rep on Wednesday,
13:54and then you guys can discuss when you can get your car.
13:56Okay.
13:57Okay?
13:57We'll take care of it.
13:59I don't know, man.
14:00I just feel real bad right now.
14:03This is crazy.
14:03This is crazy, man.
14:05Yeah.
14:05It's crazy.
14:07Oh, man.
14:09Dang.
14:10It's a blessing to know that our car wasn't stolen.
14:13Because we was like, how can somebody just like...
14:15I think the man upstairs is watching after you.
14:18But we've got to protect the environment, too, you know?
14:21No, I feel you.
14:21I feel you, bro.
14:22I'm telling you.
14:22I feel you.
14:23I feel you.
14:23Well, Frederick, thank you very much for your time.
14:25Yeah, yeah.
14:26I've got another meeting today.
14:27All right, man?
14:28God bless you, man.
14:29Okay, you too, brother.
14:30All right.
14:33Everything will be taken care of.
14:35All right.
14:37Thanks, Ted.
14:37All right.
14:38Well, with a little hope restored, Frederick heads back inside,
14:41knowing nothing about the true story of his 68 Le Mans,
14:44a car that is making tracks as our build now enters day three.
14:51All right, we've got the frame back from the powder coater.
14:53Hodgkiss is here.
14:54They're going to put the suspension on it.
14:55Chip asked for the best suspension,
14:57so we brought out the Hodgkiss Total Vehicle System.
14:59It consists of lower training arms, upper training arms, mount braces,
15:05upper A arms, and sway bars.
15:08Fred Verke will get a definite difference as far as suspension goes,
15:12handled like a slot car.
15:13It's 10.30 p.m. and the guys are working really hard to get the suspension on.
15:19After that, they're going to put the body back on.
15:22Then they'll keep tackling the metal work.
15:23That should take us through the night,
15:25and hopefully by tomorrow afternoon, we'll be rolling into paint.
15:28Man, oh man, a lot has been done in this car so far,
15:34but nothing compares to the time put into trying to make this body into a perfect Pontiac.
15:39And presently, that hard work continues.
15:41Right now, we're welding on the outer wheelhouse.
15:45We're going to go inside and finish welding the inner.
15:47Then the quarter will get final fitted and welded on for a good one.
15:51Okay now, with some of these new key pieces going on,
15:54maybe, just maybe, it's finally starting to look like a real car.
16:00The quarters are finally on.
16:01We're going to get that welded up.
16:02The other side's going on.
16:04Get both sides welding up.
16:06Pinch up the jams.
16:07Get the deck lid on.
16:08We can go to the paint shop tomorrow.
16:11Oh, don't toy with me, folks.
16:13You and all your flowery talk of going to the paint shop.
16:16How many times have I heard those promises
16:17only to return to a sea of endless and back-breaking body work?
16:22Okay, calm down, Chris.
16:23I think Chip really knows the timetable on this build.
16:26Besides, you can't fault Foose for wanting it to be perfect for our mark,
16:29especially a cool and deserving guy like big-hearted Frederick.
16:32But, AJ, I just want to see the thing go to paint,
16:35and it ain't going to happen soon with that new front end not cooperating.
16:38Yo, Chaffers, what the deal, yo?
16:40The car's been tweaked in so many different directions
16:42that we're trying to get the front end to fit
16:44and giving us a little bit of trouble,
16:48and I think we're probably going to be here most of the night
16:50trying to straighten that out.
16:51We want to test fit everything now to avoid any problems later.
16:59All right, it's 9.30 in the morning, day four.
17:01Still fit in the front end, fit in the doors and the quarters.
17:04Since we've cut this car so much apart,
17:06we have to make sure that all our gaps are perfect.
17:09So it's taking a little more time.
17:10Hopefully get it to the paint shop today around noon.
17:13Then ACS can do their magic, get it back here,
17:15and we can put it together.
17:19Ask anyone who's worked with him.
17:21Chip Foose knows how to talk to metal.
17:23Something's not fitting, he'll make it fit.
17:25One little bend and a bit of persuasion at a time.
17:27It's as though he knows how stubborn machines think,
17:30and then he simply convinces them to see things his way.
17:36Our insider Tanya returns,
17:38and this time she brought a little insider with her.
17:40They're both amazed by what they see.
17:41What if I got myself into,
17:46or what have you gotten yourself into?
17:48This is like, ooh, my God.
17:51She cannot believe that this is the same car.
17:55I'm just, my heart is just beating.
17:57You are such an amazing artist.
18:01Well, thanks.
18:02So this is something else.
18:03It's a whole team here that's making it happen.
18:05My goodness.
18:06Do you think you're going to be finished by Wednesday?
18:08We'll be done.
18:09I don't, I can't see.
18:11I can't see.
18:12Where's that faith?
18:13We walk by faith, not by sight.
18:16Because what it looked like,
18:18ooh, you can't go by that.
18:20That's beautiful.
18:21That's nice.
18:23You like that?
18:23Mm-hmm.
18:24From the color, back inside to the chrome,
18:27Chip goes over the additions Tanya knows Frederick will love.
18:30This is off the chain.
18:32Yeah, that all gets off the chain.
18:32Man, you guys must have, you guys been sleeping?
18:35Being what?
18:36Your dad is going to turn into a baby when he see this.
18:44Everything that you showed me and told me is overwhelming.
18:49Like, I'm going to, like, cry in the car.
18:52I'm trying to hold it together.
18:53Yeah.
18:54Whew.
18:56Trying to hold it together, but this is amazing.
18:59The expertise and the patience and the thought and the time and the love that's being put into your car,
19:07it just fills me up, and it would fill you up if you had a chance to see.
19:13And I'm sure you are going to break down when you see the finished outcome.
19:19It's just amazing.
19:22Well, Frederick, I know you're going through a little bit of, shall we call it, hell right now.
19:26Yeah.
19:26Getting pranked and not knowing what happened with your car.
19:28But I know Tanya here, she's going through the same thing.
19:31She's a bit uncomfortable having to lie to you this week, but I think all the lies are worth it.
19:36She's putting up with it.
19:37We appreciate it.
19:38We can't let you know what's happening now.
19:40But D-Day, she's all yours.
19:42But first, we need approval from the whole family.
19:45They're doing an okay job.
19:47What do you think?
19:49Tell them right there what you think.
19:53Oh, my gosh.
19:56This is amazing.
19:57The guys from Audiobon are kicking a little butt.
20:00It's day four right now, and these guys are pretty much done, huh?
20:03Pretty much done.
20:04Like I said, this is going to be the sub box.
20:05This is a sub enclosure here.
20:07Although it is hidden, we went ahead and covered it just to make it look a little more aesthetically pleasing.
20:12We've got a little mini mock-up here.
20:13You're going to have your amplifier sitting on the ground.
20:15You're going to have panels that go on both sides and in the back to cover everything up.
20:20And then once you pull the panels down, you'll actually see the sub enclosure here.
20:23It's going to be making your whole system thump.
20:25Powered by this monster, you'll be ready to rock and roll.
20:27It's 7 p.m. on day four, and we are ready to go to ACS, where the primer and paint are ready to fly.
20:39Okay.
20:40At top speed, the car is heading on over to our good friends at ACS, where they have one heck of a great promise for our Mark Frederick.
20:46Frederick, the boys at Auto Collision Solutions are going to make your car look like a piece of candy.
20:51With day five starting, let's see what's what at ACS.
20:57Well, much to the dismay of our time clock and our calendar, it's going to take another full day of non-metallic bodywork just to get the car ready for primer.
21:04And once all that hard work is completed, it's time to seal the deal with what else?
21:09Some sealer.
21:10Duh.
21:12Okay, now we're going to put a coat of epoxy sealer down, basically for droid resistance and heating to the bare metal.
21:18Let that dry about 20 minutes, and then we'll put our high-pill primer over that.
21:21Over at Auto Collision Solutions, the car has been primed, and it's now going to get jammed.
21:32With black paint going everywhere, the sun don't shine.
21:35And it's even going in and on quite a few places where the sun does shine.
21:39And after the jamming, there's even more sanding, with our nerves getting frazzled thanks to the flying time clock.
21:45We're a little concerned.
21:46Got to get this thing back to the shop.
21:48We only got one day to put this thing back together.
21:50So it's going to be a late one.
21:535.30, day six.
21:55Jammed.
21:56We've got to jam to get it done.
21:58Attention now goes to the doors and the quarters, with tape and color about to make appearances on Frederick's 68 Lamaze.
22:09Mike's starting to design the wheel on the computer.
22:12He'll go back to MHT and cut him off, and we'll have some one-off wheels here for Frederick.
22:16Later, precisely three wheels later...
22:19Mike and Al have been working on your wheels all night.
22:21If they've got one more to spin on the lathe, get them back over on the mill, get that design cut, we'll get them on your car.
22:27Mike makes it happen with one of the most complex and amazing machines the automotive world has to offer.
22:32It's computer power and cutting power turning Chip's drawings into wheels that are just about ready for the car.
22:38Okay, we've got the last center here, and as soon as we get this turned, we'll get it over in the mill so we can cut the design, and then hopefully we'll have these over to Chip later today.
22:47So after a little last-minute wet sanding, the car is soon ready for all of the colors Chip first figured out on his drawing board.
22:59There's a lot of gratification that comes out of getting that car done on time, making that person happy that owns it.
23:05We're all set, get that car wiped down, and start shooting some color on it.
23:08It's Foose's brilliant sketches that hold the keys as to just what the ultimate design scheme is going for.
23:15The first layers in the ACS spray booth turn out to be a few coats of shiny silver, one fine finish from the Paint Kings over at RM.
23:25And with the silver base coat soon on, Chip can get busy and tape out the design from his master plan.
23:31The tape is going on, and it is going on with the hammer coming down hard on our time.
23:35Well, it's 12.30 now. It's actually day seven.
23:41We're just laying out the graphics to get the paint job done.
23:46At this point, it's like watching the grass grow.
23:48It's not very exciting watching tape go down on the car, but once this is down and the colors start going on, that's when it gets exciting.
23:56Chip wants viewers to know the real story.
23:57It's been about three hours just laying out the line.
24:00On TV, it's going to look like about five seconds.
24:03We're done.
24:04If our marks knew just how many hours Foose puts into their cars, they wouldn't believe it.
24:09Figuring a world-class designer is just too busy.
24:12But that's the way it goes on TV.
24:14We only have one hour to show you a seven-day build, pranks and all.
24:18Hey, Frederick, tomorrow's D-Day. It's going to be yours.
24:22Foose never forgets all those great and personal details.
24:25The design scheme from the rendering is finally coming together on the car.
24:29Of course, we can't see it all yet under a few layers of paper and tape.
24:33It's 5.15 in the morning, day seven.
24:36Finally going to put some black on this thing.
24:41The black is going on, and at this very moment, it's hard to think of the past or the future.
24:46As far as the past, it was only a few days ago that this entire car body was mostly rotten rust.
24:51As for the future, this shell is supposed to be a fully operational car a few hours from now.
24:56It's going to be a Foose-designed masterpiece.
24:58It's a quarter after eight, the morning of day seven.
25:11Sean's putting the last coat to clear on.
25:14We'll be able to bake that, pull the car out, and get it back over to Art's.
25:17We can start assembling.
25:18From the paint booth, she rolls.
25:25And wait till the guys see that she's even more beautiful out here in the sun.
25:31It's afternoon of day seven.
25:32We're done painting the car.
25:34We're going to roll back up to California Performance Transmission and start putting it back together.
25:37You know, if this was one of the first few cars that we built, I'd probably be a little bit worried
25:41because we've only got about a little over a day left to get it back before we give it back to Frederick.
25:45But we've done this so many times before, not stressed at all.
25:49So here they come, racing up the road with that black, silver, and green stunner,
25:52soon arriving at California Performance Transmission, where Chris will powwow with the great Art Car.
25:58I'm with our host this week, Art Car of California Performance Transmission.
26:01He's actually putting the finishing screws onto the transmission, hooking it up with this 350 that we've got.
26:06What's special about this transmission, Art?
26:08This will give you a thousand RPM drop on the highway.
26:12You'll pick up six, seven miles to the gallon.
26:15That is really cool.
26:16So you've got a cool car to cruise in.
26:17And it's also relatively economical, Frederick.
26:20So you're getting the best of both worlds.
26:21And you're getting the transmission from the legendary Art Car.
26:28That great new transmission is on that great new engine.
26:31But it would be less than great if we were to scratch any of that newly applied paint.
26:35Also, there's yet another pickle to ponder.
26:38Right now, there's no guarantee this powertrain is going to be a slam dunk fit.
26:42We're trying to drop a small block Chevy into a Pontiac frame.
26:47So we had to do a motor mount conversion bracket setup.
26:50It's not sitting exactly the way we want to.
26:52So we're going to mess with it a little bit, loosen up the motor mounts, and see if we can get it perfect.
26:56So it's a few key adjustments on those motor mounts.
27:00And then, with just the right amount of finesse.
27:08Frederick, I hope you enjoy all the work we put into making your car look good.
27:13Because we're giving everything we have.
27:17I hope you enjoy it.
27:17I think Chip Foose, not only is he one of the greatest minds in the industry, he's so creative.
27:27And on top of that, he's one of the nicest people I've ever met.
27:31He's one of the coolest guys I've ever worked for.
27:37It's now assembly time in the shop.
27:39And that means builders are everywhere you look.
27:41Everywhere.
27:42When we got the car back at about 1 o'clock this afternoon, there was a lot of concern about just how much work was left to do.
27:49But these guys here are dedicated, hardworking professionals.
27:52They're going to get it done.
27:53And when they do get it done, Frederick, you're going to have one nice car.
27:59Okay, time to cap off this car with bumpers.
28:02The rear is first, and Shane must be very proud.
28:05Tanya did say Frederick loved chrome, and even I can see that Shane did wonders with this fixture.
28:2030 minutes to D-Day.
28:21The car looks exactly like the rendering, and we're going to work into the wee hours of the morning, just trying to get it all together.
28:27We're doing pretty much good progress.
28:30It looks like we'll do an afternoon reveal.
28:35It's 9.30 a.m. D-Day.
28:37We still need to finish the engine, the interior, the brakes, and the wheels, and the tires still need to be mounted.
28:43But once all that is done, Frederick is going to have one-way cool ride.
28:47Here's some great news coming in the door that'll spin you on your head.
28:50That Bill Dunn interior is now the built-and-done interior.
28:54Finished and now ready to go into Frederick's fully reinvented ride.
28:57It's being installed, and it's making the car complete.
29:00Time to make time.
29:06Got to get cracking fast.
29:08Okay.
29:09It is time to finally get this new engine fueled up and fired up.
29:17Starter.
29:18Starter needs shams.
29:20Last-minute problem.
29:21One of the electrical wires coming out of the distributor decided to break.
29:24It took him about an hour and a half to feed it initially, so it's going to take hopefully not that long to repair it.
29:31But while that goes on, all the other parts need to keep coming, because this is a deadline we are not going to miss.
29:39All right.
29:39After a huge effort from the A-Team, we have made it.
29:42We are ready to fire the engine.
29:44Jorge, do the honors, baby.
29:45Nice and ready.
30:02Final prank time.
30:04I will be reprising my role as a homeless person.
30:06Chip and Chris will be removal specialists.
30:08And A.J. will be the granola EPA official, telling Frederick that he has to clean up his toxins before we can give him his car back.
30:16You guys ready?
30:16We're ready.
30:17Let's do this thing.
30:20A.J. is meeting Frederick so her EPA team can clean up the toxic residue.
30:25He's been a good sport so far, but today we're going to push it.
30:28Hi, I'm Heather.
30:29Hey.
30:30Nice to meet you, too.
30:31I'm with the EPA.
30:32Yeah.
30:33Yeah, I know.
30:33Ray Janik sent me.
30:35Right, right.
30:35Yeah, he told me you're such a cool guy and for just helping out.
30:38I like that necklace.
30:39Yeah, thank you.
30:40It's just dolphins.
30:41Yeah, I see that.
30:42I have my team.
30:44I have them right there.
30:45So once they start, we're actually going to have to stay up here because the chemicals are very, very toxic.
30:52As A.J. explains the process, our team sets up in the garage.
30:56Meanwhile, as that takes place, I'm about to make my move as the man who got a dollar from Frederick a week ago.
31:02And?
31:03Well, don't know him, but.
31:04Here I am, back on the scene.
31:07Oh.
31:07He was sleeping in the garage.
31:09That's creepy.
31:12And Frederick remembers me.
31:13Was he nice?
31:17Oh.
31:18Yo, bro, you all right, man?
31:19I saw you the other day.
31:21You were.
31:23Oh, excuse me.
31:24You can't go in there because we're using highly toxic solvents.
31:27I just want to get my blank.
31:28I know, but it's going to be highly contaminated, sir.
31:31I don't want you to get hurt.
31:33Is he nice?
31:35I guess so.
31:37I'm going to have to ask you not to come in here, sir.
31:39Yeah.
31:39Please do it.
31:42Please do it.
31:42You okay, man?
31:45Sir.
31:46That's not the blanket you had, though.
31:48Okay.
31:49Where's my blanket if this isn't the one?
31:51I mean, it was put in the garbage, but the garbage man came already.
31:57Can I keep this one?
31:58Yeah, man.
31:59See, right now we're spraying the emulsifying agent, the oxidized STD square, because it activates
32:04in four minutes.
32:05Once the four minutes are up, then I'll be able to sign off, make sure everything's cool.
32:10I'll contact Ray Janik, and hopefully we'll have your vehicle back for you, sir.
32:14And, you know, this is a learning experience.
32:17Yeah, man.
32:17I just wish somebody would have left a note or something because I thought it was stolen.
32:22Oh, please be careful, sir.
32:26Please be careful.
32:28Oh, he's going to...
32:30Oh, my goodness!
32:32Please, please spray him down.
32:40Okay, you got him?
32:44Okay, come on, guys.
32:45Let's hurry it up.
32:46All this because of Frederick's toxic car problem.
32:56I think he'll be okay.
32:58He'll be okay.
33:03Sorry, this never happened.
33:05Are you okay, sir?
33:09Is it still burning?
33:10No!
33:18Oh, shoot!
33:23Woo!
33:24How you doing, man?
33:25I'm good, man.
33:26I'm real good at that.
33:27Congratulations, Frederick.
33:29Man!
33:31Dang!
33:32First of all, tell us how you're feeling right now.
33:34Uh, my heart's, like, pumping.
33:37I'm like, yo, where's the car?
33:40Man, like, right now, I'm just, like, I don't even know.
33:43Wow.
33:44I can't even...
33:46The man has been patient and kind-hearted all week long,
33:49and now he's going to get that great reward.
33:51You psyched, Frederick?
33:52Let's go see your car.
33:53Yeah, man, let's do it.
33:54Let's roll.
33:54Let's roll.
33:55Let's roll.
33:57Frederick?
33:59Yeah, I'm on.
34:00Are you ready to fully realize that you have been overhauled?
34:04Let's see what's up, baby.
34:08Yeah.
34:08Go for it, man.
34:09Check it out.
34:10Oh!
34:11Oh!
34:12Woo-hoo!
34:14This is hot!
34:16Woo!
34:18Woo-hoo!
34:20Wait till my homies see me.
34:22Do you lift your eye in here, boys?
34:25Oh, man!
34:28I'm hot now!
34:29I'm hot, baby!
34:30I'm about to be rolling on the doors.
34:33I got the car, my boys.
34:35Woo-hoo!
34:36Woo-hoo!
34:36Woo-hoo!
34:37Woo-hoo!
34:37Woo-hoo!
34:38Yeah! Yeah, Daisy! I'm on! I'm hot! I'm hot! I'm kind of hot right now!
34:47Look at the whole nine! This is all the chain!
34:54The wheel is a Pontiac logo also, repeated five times.
34:57Dang! Oh, man!
35:00That's the only set that exists yet.
35:02I like this! This is the joy!
35:04Woof! Woof!
35:07Oh, man! It's perfect!
35:10This is all that!
35:12Woof!
35:13About to be rolling down the street soon!
35:19It's now a one-of-a-kind ride for a one-of-a-kind man.
35:22And it couldn't have happened for a nicer guy.
35:24A car owner who felt bad because he thought the fluid from his old Pontiac was polluting the planet.
35:30Now that the Le Mans is reborn, it's a beauty out of this world.
35:33A vehicle that's a feast for the eyes.
35:35Congratulations!
35:37Woof!
35:39Woof!
35:41Turn it up, Chris!
35:44You deserve it!
35:47Ha!
35:48I couldn't even imagine this being like this!
35:50Sitting nice and sweet!
35:52It's right! It's perfect!
35:55It's a perfect example of what a top team of builders can do when they put their minds to it.
35:59And now it's time to meet those builders, as Frederick gets to know every member of our tired and talented A-team.
36:04You like it?
36:05Oh, love it, bro! Love it!
36:06Hot like fire!
36:08We all fucked up!
36:10This is the kind of response that makes it all worthwhile.
36:13A driver who truly knows his life behind the wheel is now in for one cool and massive change.
36:18That's my car right there!
36:25Guaranty Chevrolet has their new engine working with that California Performance transmission.
36:31Original Parts Group also put a lot into this car.
36:34It's cool sound from Audiobon, a build-on interior, and it's all protected by a Pro-Tech alarm.
36:39The black, the black is stealth. Stealth inside you.
36:43Back up! Step away from the rod!
36:46But he'll need to step forward for a look under the hood.
36:51Ooh! Ooh-hoo-hoo!
36:58Whoa!
37:00That's like a beast! That's like what I always wanted right there!
37:04You like that, Frederick?
37:05How many pipes is that? Four pipes?
37:07Yeah, those are custom headers on there.
37:08Dang, boy!
37:10What does it look like? Where do the pipes go?
37:12Give it right now.
37:17Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
37:19I'm at your boy!
37:21I'm screaming!
37:23I am gasoline matches
37:33I turn everything into matches
37:38Yeah, man! You ready to roll now?
37:39Uh-huh, I'm ready!
37:40That's right.
37:41I am gasoline matches
37:46Woo! We rolling now!
37:51Frederick is absolutely right.
37:53We truly are rolling now.
37:57Frederick 68 is finally complete.
37:59It started with a to-do list longer than a California freeway
38:02and now this Le Mans is ready for a California freeway.
38:05It's been a busy week of building and pranking,
38:07operating under a system that's worked for us before.
38:09And this time, it worked for us and Frederick in a big, big way.
38:14I feel so blessed, man.
38:16The guy's just like, man, y'all really know how to bless somebody.
38:20You know what I mean?
38:21And I'm telling you, bro, I'm happy right now.
38:24I feel like...
38:27I don't know.
38:28Maybe I was nice to somebody somewhere along the line, you know?
38:31And I send blessings out to all you brothers.
38:34Everybody, everybody, the whole team.
38:36I send blessings out to you, you know?
38:38There's one other person that worked real hard on this.
38:41Somebody that loves you dearly.
38:43Oh, ho, ho, ho.
38:44Feed me all the information that it took.
38:46My job is to get into your head and design your dream car.
38:49I can't talk to you.
38:50Tanya, help me out here.
38:52Wow!
38:53That's my girl right there.
38:54What's up, Drew?
38:57Did you praise him?
38:58I praised him, y'all.
38:59I praised him, y'all.
39:00Did you praise him?
39:01Word up.
39:04Word up.
39:05I love you so much.
39:06I love you, too.
39:07And I'm sorry for having a front.
39:09It's all good.
39:10Don't even sweat it.
39:11Don't even sweat it, baby.
39:12Don't even worry about it.
39:14It's amazing, right?
39:17Yeah.
39:18That's it.
39:19You did good, gal.
39:20You did good.
39:21Frederick had the car parked for a while.
