00:30While Chip makes car building history as he welcomes special guests some of you will not believe.
00:36Here where Dennis gets deceived.
00:38While his Firebird is made hot enough to fly.
00:40So chill my fine children, cause it's all happening now.
00:43At that cool car party zone known far and wide as overhauling.
00:47This is amazing.
00:52I am gasoline.
00:56That's right.
00:57I am gasoline and matches.
01:13Dennis is our mark.
01:15The owner of a beloved but beaten 69 Pontiac Firebird.
01:19Stephanie is our insider and the long time girlfriend of Dennis.
01:22She says her man is way close to his Firebird with Dennis vowing never to part with it.
01:27Stephanie also reports that sadly Dennis will be beside himself once he discovers it's missing.
01:32That is a development now shaping up thanks to Chris and his eternally itchy fingers.
01:36All right, it's 10 p.m.
01:39We're in Venice, California.
01:40We're about to go steal Dennis' 69 Firebird convertible.
01:43I got the keys.
01:44I got the desire.
01:45I got Fuston the A-Team waiting for me at the Hot Rod Car Craft Shop.
01:48Let's get this thing.
01:49Get it down there.
01:50Start this overhauling.
01:51Do it.
01:52We're coming for you, Dennis.
01:54We're coming to steal your 69 Firebird convertible.
01:57You're at dinner right now.
01:58You don't even know that we're coming to get you, buddy.
02:00That evil laugh tells us that Dennis and Stephanie are indeed at dinner, and it's now Chris's
02:06cue to pilfer a Pontiac.
02:08And there he is, as confident as ever, eager to let us know it was all one big piece of
02:13cake.
02:14Dennis, we got your car, man.
02:16You don't even know.
02:18Hope you're enjoying your dinner, bro.
02:20You love this car so much.
02:22Why did you leave it unlocked, man?
02:24It's going to be hell for the next seven days, but don't worry, man.
02:27We're going to turn it into something beautiful.
02:29Can't wait to see what Foose does with this bad boy.
02:32Everyone wants to see, because Chip used to own a 69 Firebird.
02:37And here it is.
02:38All right.
02:39We're Dennis' beautiful 1969 convertible fire turn on Firebird.
02:44Looks like a lot of work.
02:46Yo, A-Team, get out of here.
02:47It's so bad, nobody's in a hurry to hurry out.
02:51Sorry, guys.
02:52Uh-oh.
02:53Looks like Foose is worried, too.
02:55This is going to be a challenge.
02:56I don't think we're going to need to do anything in the interior.
02:59It looks pretty nice in there.
03:00Gee, yeah, looks real nice.
03:03Dennis has obviously been on the lookout for a new car.
03:05Chip sure does look skeptical.
03:08Wow.
03:08Even the binoculars are rusted.
03:11I see a lot of replacement panels in this car's future.
03:14Seems like the words of the day are rust repair.
03:17All right, Dennis.
03:18Take a good look.
03:20The last day your car is going to be a piece of junk.
03:23Because once it rolls into this garage, it ain't rolling out again until it's been overhauled.
03:28And it'll be overhauled under the leadership of designer, builder, and boy wonder Chip Foose.
03:34In its day, this car was killer.
03:37Featuring power, style, and a very cool way to let the sun shine in.
03:41Dennis is 100% devoted to this ride, so we need to take a lot of care when it comes to making it into his dream mobile.
03:47And as an added treat for both Dennis and us, we'll later be doing part of the car with a group of guys that some of you will not believe.
03:55When you see them, don't adjust your sets.
03:57They really are here, and they really are overhauling.
04:02It starts coming apart here at Hot Rod Car Craft, and it always feels strange to disassemble a stranger's ride,
04:08especially when he has no idea we have it and we're doing it.
04:11The car's coming apart pretty easily, as it should.
04:13The scary part's going to be when this thing gets back from media blasting.
04:18I know he works on surfboards, but he brought the beach to his car here with all this sand.
04:23Here we often see that some people are just better at some jobs than others.
04:27When done correctly, this is how the weather strip should be removed.
04:31It is a fine art. I've got it down to a science.
04:35One of the most interesting things about tearing down a car like this
04:38is the fact that almost all these parts will never go back on the ride again.
04:42So while you can be sentimental about an old car, you can't be too sentimental.
04:47That sounds obvious until you remember that here at Overhaaland,
04:50we're not making a new car or some anonymous hot rod.
04:53We have emotions and memories to worry about,
04:55and that's why Chip's careful with every change he makes.
05:00Wow.
05:01This is so cool.
05:03She made this happen.
05:04Hey, everybody. Our insider Stephanie's here.
05:07What do you think Dennis would say if he was standing here right now?
05:13He's so bummed out right now because he thinks it's gone.
05:15I think he would cry.
05:17So he has no idea he could even be overhauled.
05:20He absolutely has no idea.
05:21So good. So far, we've thrown the scent of overhauling off.
05:25Absolutely. Absolutely.
05:26So why is Dennis so attached to this car?
05:29He has always had a thing for muscle cars.
05:31He drives this every day.
05:33This is Chip.
05:34Nice to meet you.
05:35Thanks for the opportunity.
05:36Oh, thank you.
05:37I have a lot of questions for you.
05:39I hope I got a lot of answers for you.
05:40More deconstruction first.
05:46All right, so out comes your original 400.
05:48It's going to be rebuilt, cleaned up, put back in the car.
05:50L&R will rebuild this motor with parts from Summit Racing.
05:53And with the engine now out,
05:55it's now time to get it over to the Blast Factory.
05:59Shall we, gentlemen?
06:00Absolutely.
06:01Let's do it, man.
06:02So now it's on its way out of hot rod car craft
06:05and heading over to AFCO,
06:06where the gang bids the car a temporary yet sad bye-bye.
06:10So there it goes.
06:11It's off.
06:11Bye-bye.
06:12Bye-bye all the paint, rust, Bondo.
06:15Well, all the rust might be getting blasted off,
06:17but that doesn't mean any of our problems are solved
06:20with a workload of work straight ahead.
06:22All right, we're here with Stephanie.
06:24Stephanie, I want you to tell me
06:25what you think Dennis would do to this car
06:27and what his ultimate dream car is.
06:28I think his ultimate idea would be
06:31to do just classic restoration.
06:34I think he would want it to be a 10-point car
06:36like exactly if it was brand new on the outside.
06:41Have you ever seen this show?
06:42I have seen this show.
06:44Once or twice.
06:44We don't leave him stock.
06:45But I think on the inside, it would be modern.
06:50It would be like, I mean, he surfs.
06:53I think he would, you know, want something kind of like surfy.
06:57In my car, I have heated seats,
06:59which is awesome for after surfing.
07:01We love stuff like that.
07:02What colors do you think he would have gone with?
07:05Any of the blues.
07:07See, to me, that's a beautiful form right there.
07:09Yeah, it's real clean.
07:10What I'd like to do is play up just the form.
07:11To me, it needs to be a metallic color
07:13because there is so much subtle, soft shape to it.
07:17If we do a metallic, it's going to actually glow.
07:19Right.
07:20I have a couple ideas where I can go.
07:21I'll do those sketches.
07:22And you've seen the car torn apart.
07:24Is there anything you'd like to say to Dennis?
07:26I know you are so mad at Santa Monica police.
07:30And I'm the one to blame.
07:33But, yeah, now that you got your car back,
07:37I think all this complaining is going to be worth it.
07:41It's all for you, Dennis.
07:44All right, it's 10.30 p.m.
07:46We've got the car back for media blasting.
07:47As you can see, it left us with a lot of rust
07:49that we've got to repair.
07:50So Sean's got to make some decisions
07:52on what aftermarket parts he wants to use,
07:55what stock steel he wants to keep.
07:57So tonight will be just pretty much
07:59a lot of metal work, suspension work.
08:02So by tomorrow, we can start doing some body work,
08:04start roughing it in, get it over to paint
08:06as soon as we can.
08:07The guys from year one get moving on the old suspension,
08:10so Gemtech can be powder coating by morning.
08:12And with more of the original gear out of the way,
08:14Sean can get a better idea
08:16about keeping or replacing body parts.
08:19Guys, just got the front subframe dropped.
08:22Starting to do some of the metal work on it.
08:23Hopefully we get about 50% of the metal work cut
08:25and fit tonight and get it all welded in tomorrow.
08:28Those are optimistic goals,
08:29but you can't fault a guy for dreaming.
08:31It's often this way when we get a rusty car.
08:33We dive in and hope for the best.
08:34Still, with new panels from year one,
08:37we just might have a shot
08:38at getting the body done fast.
08:40We're looking pretty good for the front right now.
08:43Sean and boys are pretty much
08:45working on the rear quarters.
08:47Got Tony working his butt off on that rear piece.
08:49That's the piece that looks the worst right now,
08:52so we're just plugging away
08:53and trying to get it done.
08:54All right, it's Backwards Hat Club here talking to Sean.
09:03We're going to talk about a little metal work.
09:04A little less than we thought initially.
09:06The floor remarkably looks well
09:08inside the trunk for a convertible.
09:10That's really rare.
09:11You should get some water seeping down there
09:12and rust it out.
09:13Boys already got the front floor pans in,
09:15so we're looking pretty good.
09:17But still, a lot of major rust repair continues
09:20with new body panels from year one
09:22flying in to save the day.
09:23And there's also a few key additions
09:26that our Mark Dennis is just going to need
09:28to figure out for himself.
09:29Weld her up and call it good, Dennis.
09:31I hope you know how to get into a car with no handles.
09:34Yup, that's the way we like it.
09:36A lot of metal work going on.
09:37These guys will be here pretty much all day.
09:40Just a lot of rust repair.
09:42It's always about to rust.
09:44Well, I knew this car had a lot of rust,
09:46but I realized just how much
09:47as I saw that we're enlisting all the troops.
09:49And she's doing a great job.
09:53Time for our designer to do some designing.
10:02Well, if you're wondering why I'm drawing three cars,
10:04I've got three different ideas of what I want to do color-wise.
10:07So I'm going to pull some markers out,
10:09throw some rough colors down,
10:11look at where we're going before we do a final rendering,
10:13make a decision based on these
10:15of what color the car should go,
10:17and then I'll do the final rendering.
10:18It's always the hard way with this guy.
10:21I say, why not just throw all of Chip's markers into a big hat,
10:25close your eyes, pull out a pair,
10:27flip a coin over those two,
10:28and there you go.
10:29Instant car color.
10:31Oh, well, I guess that's why all those insiders
10:33talk to him and not me
10:34when it comes to what shade of paint they want on the Mark's ride.
10:37I'll explain how to do it,
10:38but first, get this.
10:39He hand-drew the car three times.
10:41Plus, they have these things now called copy machines.
10:44Besides, you don't need three drawings or copies.
10:46You make a line drawing, there's your white car.
10:48Color it red, now it's a red car.
10:50Color the red black, it's a black car.
10:52That's the way to color three cars.
10:53Man, do I have to figure out everything here?
10:55So, Dennis, there's three samples.
10:57What I'd like to do is show them to Stephanie,
10:59see what she thinks you'd like.
11:03All right, well, we got the subframe back from Gemtech.
11:05It's all powder-coated black.
11:07We're going to get it inside.
11:08Dennis, it's the start of your new front suspension.
11:10And it's quickly a job about control arms, spindles,
11:13sliding it all together, alignment,
11:15and avoiding the usual front-end problems.
11:17One of the problems that you encounter
11:19when you're actually putting the frame on
11:20is that if it's a little off,
11:23your whole front-end fenders, hoods,
11:26radiator, core support, all that stuff
11:28will not fit at all.
11:30So to make sure it does fit,
11:31you need just the right tools to measure it all up.
11:35Basically, you're checking to make sure
11:36the length on both sides is the same.
11:38So you pull it out, match it to one side,
11:41set it so it won't move,
11:42and check your other side.
11:44If they match, it's right on.
11:46Okay, they're all pretty much perfect.
11:48Tomorrow morning, Hotchkiss will come in,
11:50put in the springs and sway bars.
11:52We'll be ready to go.
11:53Well, that's what we like to hear.
11:58Wake up!
11:58Another great day to overhaul.
12:06I'm here with Brian.
12:07He's going to be playing a neighborhood watch.
12:09Hello.
12:10Representative, we're going to go over
12:11to Dennis's apartment,
12:12try to recruit Dennis to be a neighborhood watch participant.
12:15What are you going to tell him when you get up there?
12:16Well, I'm going to talk to him about his car
12:18and find out what happened,
12:19but mostly I want to recruit him
12:20for the neighborhood watch program.
12:22He's going to be very bleary-eyed, too,
12:24because it's about 9 a.m. right now,
12:26and he worked until about 3 a.m.
12:27I'll be playing a homeless person
12:28pushing the shopping cart with a camera in it.
12:30Ready to do this?
12:31I'm ready.
12:33Dennis.
12:33Phil.
12:34Phil.
12:37First of all, let me tell you, I'm very sorry.
12:38I'm sorry about the loss.
12:39I had a car stolen once, and it's awful,
12:41so I'm really sorry to hear that.
12:42Just to be surprised how much
12:43that people are just a little bit aware
12:45of anything different or suspicious or whatever it is.
12:48You can't list this car.
12:49Oh, well, I know it's a Firebird, right?
12:511969, Firebird.
12:52Oh, man.
12:53Oh, God.
12:55Here's what I was able to glean
12:56in talking with your neighbors.
13:00That approximately 10.45...
13:02Here comes trouble.
13:03...22nd.
13:04What in the world is Chris up to?
13:06He clearly has some kind of prank that's about to hatch.
13:09Two men dressed in black were seen
13:10walking up that back alley.
13:11One actually was seen starting the car.
13:14One jumped in after.
13:15They left the lights on.
13:16They drove down the alley.
13:18Another dark-colored vehicle pulled out
13:20behind them from the street.
13:22And that was actually everything
13:24that I was able to glean from...
13:26Is there a time on that?
13:28Approximation is 10.45,
13:29between like 10.45, 11 o'clock.
13:31I feel like we've got a lot of information.
13:32We just got to sort of investigate it and see how...
13:34If you've got a time frame,
13:35let me just notice it down.
13:37So I guess that's it for us.
13:38I just want to reassure you
13:39that I'm on it,
13:41the cops will be on it
13:42and we'll do our best to try to find it.
13:43We've got some stuff here
13:45for the neighborhood watch.
13:47We've got a sign there.
13:49We've got a little cap.
13:50We've got a shirt inside.
13:52All sorts of stickers, things you can put in your door.
13:54So if you wouldn't mind,
13:57I would like you to...
13:58This is just sort of a formality.
13:59It seems silly,
14:00but it's a little pledge
14:02that if you wouldn't mind doing,
14:05I'd appreciate it.
14:06Okay.
14:06I, Dennis, do solemnly swear...
14:08I, Dennis, do solemnly swear...
14:10To uphold the bylaws
14:11of the neighborhood watch...
14:12To uphold the bylaws
14:13of the neighborhood watch...
14:14And diligently do my best
14:16to make sure...
14:17And diligently do my best
14:18to make sure...
14:19That no crime goes unseen
14:20or unpunished in my neighborhood.
14:22That no crime goes unseen
14:23or unpunished in my neighborhood.
14:24I vow to take a bite out of crime.
14:26I vow to take a bite out of crime.
14:28I appreciate that.
14:29Obviously, you both do.
14:31That's being a good citizen.
14:33Appreciate that, sir.
14:34We should put a...
14:35I should put a T-shirt.
14:36I'm going to ask him
14:37if he took your car.
14:38Anyway, thank you very much.
14:39Thank you very much.
14:40All right, sir.
14:40Take care.
14:41My pleasure.
14:42That's what I do.
14:42It looks like Chris
14:44took the pledge
14:44right along with Dennis,
14:45and that makes him
14:46part of the neighborhood watch as well.
14:48Ironic when you remember
14:49that Chris is the one
14:50who stole Dennis' car.
14:52Hmm, the plot thickens,
14:54and Dennis now watches it all
14:55as we watch him.
14:58Hi, Chip.
14:59How are you?
14:59Good, how are you?
15:00Good to see you.
15:01How's it going?
15:01It's going good.
15:02Chip also did a fourth sketch
15:04in Dennis' favorite blue.
15:05Then I did three others
15:07where I looked at
15:09a seafoam green.
15:10Uh-huh.
15:11It would be a real pretty
15:12pearl color.
15:13And then I looked at
15:14the wood hooks
15:16that Dennis makes.
15:16Yeah.
15:17Using that color.
15:19Right, right.
15:19And then I looked at
15:20a real warm silver.
15:22It's almost like
15:22a sand color.
15:24Oh, very cool.
15:24I wanted to see
15:25what you thought Dennis
15:26would think of these colors.
15:27I bet he would go
15:29right there.
15:30You think he'd go
15:31to the blue?
15:32Yeah, I think he would.
15:33Yeah, actually,
15:34I really like that.
15:36Yeah.
15:37Dennis, it's her fault.
15:38It's my fault.
15:39That's the color.
15:41If you don't like it,
15:41I'll take it.
15:44Here's exactly what happens
15:45when you stand there live
15:46and watch Chip draw.
15:48You can't stop staring,
15:49you find yourself
15:50giggling a lot,
15:51and most of all,
15:51you realize that you want
15:53that car worse
15:53than anyone around you.
15:55Isn't that right, AJ?
15:57And I don't care
15:58if you're the most loving,
15:59selfless insider in the world.
16:00You watch that drawing
16:01come together,
16:02hey, the heck with the mark.
16:04You want that car
16:04for your very own.
16:07Okay, okay,
16:08maybe Stephanie
16:09is one of those rare souls
16:11who puts true love
16:12in front of her own car love.
16:14As for me,
16:15well, I'm the one
16:16who steals these cars.
16:17Problem is,
16:18I always steal them
16:19way before they're foost.
16:21One day,
16:21I'll take one after
16:22it already looks like this.
16:24Hey, Dennis,
16:25your car hasn't been stolen.
16:26You're on overhauling.
16:29Got a lot of work
16:30going on in the car,
16:30a lot of metal work going on.
16:32These guys have been
16:32working really hard today.
16:34We got basically
16:35a time crunch right now.
16:36We got to get it over
16:36to West Coast Customs
16:38tomorrow morning.
16:39They've kind of set
16:39a schedule aside
16:40for us to squeeze in.
16:41Therefore,
16:42they're so busy,
16:43we're going to sneak in,
16:44get it painted,
16:44get it back here,
16:45get it back to Dennis on time.
16:46Some of you heard right.
16:47More on that later.
16:49Now, suspension time.
16:50We just got finished
16:51putting in the
16:52Hodgkiss front sway bar,
16:53lowering coil springs
16:54and shocks.
16:56Everything is complete there,
16:57so we're pretty much
16:58ready to move on
16:59to the rear end.
17:00I never question anyone
17:01from that car kingdom
17:02known as year one,
17:04but why the upside down
17:05installation?
17:06What we're doing
17:07is we're installing
17:07it upside down
17:08so we can flip it over
17:09and roll it right up
17:11underneath the car
17:12and put it right in.
17:13All right,
17:14it's morning of day four.
17:15Chip,
17:15what's going on with the car?
17:16Well, we're up all night
17:17getting the car ready
17:18and we're here
17:18at the paint shop.
17:19And what paint shop
17:20is that?
17:21West Coast Customs.
17:22You heard me.
17:24For those of you
17:24into car TV,
17:25get ready for one
17:26unbelievable sight.
17:28It's those other guys
17:29from that other show
17:30joining forces
17:31with Overhaaland.
17:32But don't worry,
17:33they're done pimpin'.
17:33Yeah.
17:34We've always been big fans
17:36of the Way Talented team
17:37from West Coast Customs
17:38and nobody's more excited
17:39to have them all
17:40on Overhaaland
17:41than all of us.
17:41I love that crew.
17:43West Coast Customs
17:44Overhaaland style.
17:45They're done pimpin'.
17:46Long before they were on TV,
17:48they were the standard
17:49for high-end celebrity rides.
17:50Just ask their top guy.
17:51This is Ryan.
17:52This is his shop.
17:53He's going to tell us
17:53a little bit about
17:54West Coast Customs
17:55and what do you guys do here?
17:56What we do is we build
17:57custom cars
17:59for high-end celebrities,
18:01car companies,
18:02whatever time of year it is,
18:03depending on what we're building.
18:04So are you psyched
18:05to be on Overhaaland?
18:06Yeah.
18:06We're excited.
18:07Nice.
18:08Stay tuned.
18:08You're about to see
18:09some cool stuff
18:10here on Overhaaland my ride.
18:12Yo, Chip,
18:13where do you want this?
18:14Put it in the back seat.
18:16Then keep the black vinyl
18:18and then bring that fabric around
18:19so we got the stripe
18:20all the way through.
18:21Well, it looks like
18:23old habits are dying hard
18:24here at West Coast Customs.
18:26See, Dennis is a surfer,
18:28so what I need to do
18:28is put a wave machine in this.
18:30Okay.
18:30No problem.
18:31And then he can ride that.
18:33All right, get that out of here.
18:35Okay, time to stow the gags
18:37as major prep work continues.
18:38One more important item
18:39on our oversized schedule,
18:41getting a time check
18:42and an update from AJ.
18:43It's 3 p.m. on day four
18:45and the body work continues.
18:46Hopefully by tonight
18:47we'll have some primer
18:47on the car.
18:49There it is.
18:51Wow.
18:52Oh, my God.
18:53I actually don't recognize
18:56all that rust.
18:57It's amazing, isn't it?
18:58Falling apart
18:59in bits and pieces.
19:00It's going to be very, very clean.
19:02It's going to be very, very cool.
19:03Well, how's he feeling right now?
19:06I think he's feeling
19:07a little frustrated.
19:08Feeling a little frustrated.
19:09Bummed out?
19:11Definitely has been bummed out
19:12for a couple days,
19:14but now it's kind of sinking in
19:16and he's getting on.
19:18It's all right.
19:19He's going to be just fun.
19:21Well, unfortunately, Dennis,
19:22you have a very cool girlfriend.
19:24She hooked you up with Overhawn
19:26who in turn hooked you up
19:27with West Coast Customs
19:28and in the end
19:29you're going to have
19:30the dopest 69 Firebird
19:32convertible on the road
19:33and I can guarantee you that.
19:38Hey, what's going on?
19:39It's day 5, 1130 in the morning.
19:41We got our first coat of primer on.
19:43As the deck lid and hood
19:45are ready for a second coat.
19:47Hopefully later on this afternoon
19:48we'll get it into paint
19:49and by tonight it'll be done.
19:51Out of here.
19:52Well, nothing's out of here
19:53without the okay
19:54from the man who opened this place
19:56just over a decade ago.
19:57I started West Coast Customs
19:5810 years ago,
20:00about 11 now,
20:01with a dream of building a shop
20:04that did everything under one roof.
20:06I started with,
20:07I borrowed $5,000 from my grandpa
20:09and started kind of what you see now.
20:12Working with Overhawn
20:13gives us a chance
20:15to kind of show the world out there
20:16what we really want to show them,
20:18like the kind of cars
20:19we like working on
20:20and doing everything on TV is okay
20:22and it doesn't affect us
20:23as long as we're building stuff
20:24we want to be building
20:25and to show, you know,
20:27the world we don't make funny cars.
20:29I mean, I'm known for building custom cars
20:31and that's what I want everybody to know.
20:33Well, Dennis is going to have
20:34a very cool custom car
20:35if we can get it painted.
20:37We've got the sealer down in the car.
20:39Now it's time for some color.
20:40Get the doors back on this thing
20:42and we'll finish it off
20:43with the Foo Spade.
20:44Well, as we discussed the Foo Spade,
20:46we want to fade back in time
20:48a few days ago,
20:49back when Chip first designed
20:50the look of Dennis' improved Pontiac,
20:52featuring a color hand-selected
20:54by our insider, Stephanie.
20:55At first, it seemed like Chip
20:57had three other favorite candidates
20:59as potential colors,
21:00but as Stephanie kept voting for blue,
21:02Foo Spade found a way
21:03to give her what she wanted
21:04while he came up with new touches
21:05to keep it all cool.
21:07And this shade is a long ways
21:09from the ancient red
21:10the car rolled in with.
21:12On top of that,
21:13the paint goes on top of that body
21:14that has been reworked
21:15until it was made 100% rust-free.
21:18It was drawn by Chip Foo Spade,
21:20and now we've drawn
21:21West Coast Customs into our build,
21:23a team that knows
21:24just how excited a person can get
21:25once they see their old ride
21:27has been given
21:27an entirely new lease on life.
21:30Dennis, it's day five,
21:3112 midnight,
21:32but what's going on here?
21:33Well, the guys are putting
21:34the doors back on
21:35so we can get this thing in color
21:36and clear and finish it off.
21:38Night five?
21:39Parts are going back on,
21:41and this Pontiac
21:42is about to get color all over.
21:44And even though it is a firebird,
21:46this shade reminds me
21:47of one sleek
21:48and very cool shark in the making.
21:50It is a subtle
21:53and unique variation
21:54on the color of blue,
21:55and as it goes on the car,
21:56the guys here at West Coast
21:58know that overhauling
21:58works on a tight schedule
22:00with all eyes
22:01on the eternally ticking clock.
22:11It's 2.30 in the morning.
22:12I just finished laying down
22:13at the base.
22:14Now it's time to finish
22:15this baby off
22:15with the Foo Spade.
22:17Ah, the Foo Spade.
22:18We've been hearing so much
22:19about it,
22:20and now it's here,
22:21making the ride sleek.
22:22And unless you look closely,
22:23you might not even know
22:24it's there.
22:25And after that fade,
22:26it's time for clear coat.
22:28Five coats to be exact.
22:29And then after all that,
22:31it's time for a little bit
22:32of heat
22:32and a little bit of shut eye.
22:34I started on day five.
22:35It's now beginning
22:36of day six.
22:37It's 5.30 in the morning.
22:38I finished with the clear.
22:40I'm ready to kick the heaters on
22:41and get the heck out of here.
22:45All right,
22:46the car came in two days ago.
22:47West Coast Customs here
22:48and hooked us up.
22:49Got it all painted for us.
22:50We're going to head it
22:50back to Dennis.
22:52Thank you very much
22:53for your use of your shop.
22:54No problem,
22:55no problem.
22:56All right,
22:56thank y'all for bringing us
22:57such a nice car.
22:57For us to go ahead
22:58and lay it down,
22:59West Coast style.
23:00We officially
23:00have not been pimped.
23:03That's the way
23:03we like it here
23:04on Overhaulin'.
23:05And as it heads back
23:06to Hot Rod Car Craft,
23:07our guys are reminded
23:08of the cool work
23:09that gets done
23:10at West Coast.
23:11Now what normally
23:11you'd see from
23:12West Coast Customs,
23:14it wouldn't look
23:14at all like this.
23:15Okay, you guys,
23:16put your backs into it.
23:17We need to get that
23:18Firebird in there
23:19and get it all fired up
23:20now.
23:22I'm here with Gray
23:23from Kiesler Engineering
23:24and he's going to tell us
23:25a little bit more
23:25about the special transmission
23:26that's going in Dennis' car.
23:28Yeah, the new transmission
23:29is a five-speed
23:30overdrive transmission.
23:31It offers a much
23:32faster first gear
23:33and a better performing
23:34gear set one through four.
23:36It also has an overdrive gear,
23:38so he'll be able
23:39to cruise on the highway
23:40at low RPMs
23:42and get great gas mileage.
23:43Steph, take a look.
23:45Wow.
23:46Oh my God.
23:48It's beautiful.
23:49This is unbelievable.
23:52What do you think
23:53of the color?
23:54It's amazing.
23:55It's beautiful.
23:56It is so amazing.
23:58Right now,
23:59there's a big hole
23:59in where the engine
24:01used to be.
24:01Right.
24:02It'll be back tomorrow
24:03from L&R.
24:03They're rebuilding it
24:04and giving it a little
24:05more horsepower.
24:06I definitely don't think
24:07it's going to register
24:08that it's his
24:09and then like,
24:11yeah,
24:12when it sinks in,
24:14I don't know,
24:14all bets are off.
24:16D-Day is just
24:17going to blow his mind.
24:19You will see
24:19a human head explode
24:21on TV on Tuesday.
24:25You saw it here first.
24:27All right,
24:27we got the car back
24:28from West Coast Customs.
24:29We're going to put up
24:30on jack stands,
24:31run brake lines,
24:32fuel lines,
24:32finish up all the brakes
24:33underneath the car.
24:35We're also going to
24:35paint the dash
24:36and the firewall black
24:37so we can start
24:39rewiring the whole dash,
24:40rewiring the whole car.
24:41Do everything we can
24:42tonight.
24:43Tomorrow morning,
24:43we'll put the engine in
24:44and fire the thing up tomorrow.
24:45The guys don't waste
24:46a single second
24:47putting in the dynamat
24:48and a lot of other
24:49much-needed gear.
24:50Hey, Ben,
24:51nice with the lid there,
24:52but now it's time
24:53to get busy with glass
24:54and light it up and back.
24:55As you can see,
24:56I'm putting in the taillights,
24:57which is a good start
24:58towards a finishing touch.
25:00Let's hope you're
25:00right about that.
25:03You just read it,
25:04day seven.
25:05Time to make the ride
25:06suite outside
25:07and inside.
25:08All right,
25:09the interior just showed up
25:09from Bill Dunn's.
25:10It looks fantastic.
25:11We're ready to put it in.
25:12Everybody is hard at work.
25:14Well, almost everybody,
25:15and for those
25:16who aren't sitting on the job,
25:17it's time to put
25:18the new top
25:18onto the Firebird.
25:20It's a real group effort
25:21to make that frame
25:22play nice,
25:23and then it's up
25:23to the Bill Dunn dudes
25:24to get the cover
25:25stretched over
25:26and fastened into place.
25:29All right, well,
25:29there she blows.
25:30The freshly built 400
25:31that came out
25:32of Dennis' car.
25:33It's all nice
25:33and beautiful now.
25:34It's going to go back
25:35in Dennis' car.
25:36Nice.
25:37What we're going to do
25:37is we're going to seal up
25:38the intake.
25:39It came with a loose intake
25:40on it,
25:41put valve cover gaskets
25:42on it.
25:43We're going to put
25:43the Kiesler 5-speed.
25:45It'll all be bolted up,
25:47put the march pulley
25:48set up in,
25:48and we're going to slide
25:49it right in the car.
25:50So it's pretty much
25:50plug-and-play
25:51once you get the components
25:52attached to it.
25:53Yeah, very much so.
25:54Well, plug-and-play
25:55is pretty much what we need
25:56with the kind of time
25:57we're operating under.
25:58It carefully goes in,
25:59and it'll soon be filled
26:00with a lot of royal purple,
26:02taking Dennis down the road
26:03in a way he's been dreaming
26:04about ever since
26:05he got this Firebird.
26:06And does Chip approve
26:08of the tranny
26:08and the rebuilt engine?
26:09I think that was a yes.
26:12Now, a car that's cool
26:14is going to obviously
26:14need some protection,
26:15and that's why
26:16we always use
26:17Pro-Tech resources.
26:18This is Eddie.
26:19He's our main man.
26:19He does all of our installs.
26:21How's it going today, brother?
26:21Pretty good.
26:22What are you guys
26:22putting into the car?
26:23I'm actually working
26:24on the latches,
26:24and I'm going to have
26:25to modify the latches
26:26to make his doors pop open
26:27so there's no handles
26:27on the car.
26:28I have one of these
26:29in my car,
26:30so I know it comes
26:31in real handy.
26:33All right, Dennis.
26:34It's day seven.
26:34What we have laid out here
26:35is all the components
26:36which are going to go
26:37in your vehicle.
26:37Running the system
26:38will be your Alpine head unit,
26:40CDA 9847,
26:42connected to your
26:43six-disc CD changer.
26:44Play all your MV3s.
26:45You can put your ferrets
26:46in the back,
26:46change it up up front.
26:48Then you have your V12 amp
26:50that is going to run
26:50your rear speakers,
26:52front speakers,
26:53subwoofer.
26:54This thing is so powerful
26:55that it's going to
26:56blow your head off.
26:57So if you happen to see
26:57a headless driver
26:58in a cool 69 Firebird,
27:00it's just Dennis.
27:02Hours later,
27:03Chip decides to add
27:04a couple of touches
27:04to the hood of the car,
27:05being real darn careful
27:07around all that new paint,
27:08knowing that there's still
27:09a lot left to do
27:10on this Firebird.
27:124 to 6 a.m.,
27:13day seven.
27:13We still have to finish
27:14the motor.
27:15We have no radiator
27:15in the car.
27:16Still have a complete
27:17interior, a dash,
27:19steering column,
27:20and the back's
27:20coming along real good.
27:22But I'm going to get
27:24a little sleep
27:24and come back
27:24when the rest
27:25of the troops are here.
27:27All right,
27:29it's D-Day today.
27:31Things were moving long
27:31until we ran into
27:32a little snag
27:33with the engine
27:33and transmission.
27:34We're supposed
27:35to give the car
27:35back to Dennis
27:36at 4?
27:37I don't know.
27:37We'll see.
27:38Only time will tell.
27:42Luckily,
27:43we have our year one team
27:44and our Kiesler guys
27:45looking into the problem.
27:47It's D-Day here.
27:48We're down to the wire
27:49and still haven't solved
27:50the problem
27:50with the pilot hole
27:51in the crank
27:52being the wrong size.
27:53We've got a small issue
27:54with the bearing
27:55in the transmission
27:56not quite fitting
27:57into the motor
27:58the way it should.
27:59Of course,
28:00with our impossible
28:01time clock,
28:01that's really not
28:02a small issue at all.
28:04And soon,
28:04everyone here
28:05is doing all they can
28:06to make this very wrong
28:07thing into a very right thing.
28:09Right now,
28:09we're hooking up
28:10the fuel line
28:11and the temperature
28:12sending units
28:13for the fan.
28:14As soon as our buddies
28:15get finished
28:16with the transmission
28:17looks like
28:18we'll level this thing out,
28:20put the spark plug wires
28:22distributors on it
28:23and it
28:23and throw some fuel to it
28:25and see if this sucker
28:26won't light.
28:27It's do or die
28:28up and down
28:29and all the way around
28:30this overhauling build
28:31as the build-on guys
28:32rush to keep
28:33their end of the bargain
28:33needing to wake
28:34a sleeping beauty
28:35so they can make use
28:36of an extra set of hands.
28:37Hey, Jay.
28:38Come on, let's go.
28:40They want to help me.
28:41Oh, yeah, yeah.
28:41I was just taking
28:42a little break.
28:43D-Day, let's go.
28:44See, my trick
28:45is to snore loudly
28:46talk in my sleep
28:47and maybe even drool a little
28:48and that way
28:48they leave you alone
28:49and go ask someone else
28:50for help.
28:51Wow, there's so much
28:52I need to impart
28:52when it comes to pro slacking.
28:54Well, there's no slacking
28:55right now
28:56as the pranksters
28:57are already off
28:58to fool with Dennis
28:59and Boost is looking
29:00to see just what's left
29:01and just how much time
29:02we're going to need
29:03to get this done.
29:05Well, it's 4 o'clock D-Day.
29:06We're still waiting
29:07on the transmission.
29:08What I want to do
29:08is get the hood on
29:09and bring it down
29:10because all the front end
29:12is just sitting here.
29:12It's not tightened up yet.
29:14Once we get the hood down,
29:15we can adjust
29:16the front end,
29:16tighten all that up.
29:17Hopefully, we're about
29:18an hour away
29:19from having the tranny
29:19in the car.
29:20It's just a little bit
29:21of detail work.
29:22Bill Dunn's getting
29:23the interior done
29:23and Alan Ed's going
29:25to have that stereo
29:26cranking.
29:26and Dennis, you're probably
29:28about three hours away.
29:31It's all yours.
29:31After he's pranked.
29:35It's D-Day,
29:36final prank time.
29:37A call has been placed
29:38to Dennis.
29:39Tell him to come meet me,
29:40Laszlo, the newest
29:41neighborhood watch
29:42representative at his house.
29:44I have some information
29:45about his missing car.
29:46Dennis, they're watching you, man.
29:49They are watching Dennis
29:50and by they, I mean us.
29:52Of course, Dennis isn't
29:54going to find that out
29:55until Chris does his thing
29:56as the mysterious Laszlo,
29:58a member of the neighborhood watch
30:00who seems to have some info
30:01on that recently stolen firebird.
30:03In fact, Laszlo is going
30:05to tell Dennis
30:05that he not only knows
30:07surveillance is taking place
30:08right here on this very street,
30:09but he also saw
30:11the car being taken.
30:12Do you remember
30:13what they look like?
30:13You didn't see them?
30:14One guy, one guy
30:15was wearing all black
30:16and the other guy
30:17was normal looking.
30:19But they're watching you
30:20with cameras.
30:22I don't see.
30:23That's weird.
30:23That's what they mean
30:24by neighborhood watch.
30:26They're watching you.
30:27Look, look, look, look.
30:29Look, look.
30:31Are you with those guys?
30:32They're watching you
30:33right now on the camera.
30:34I can see that.
30:35Are you with those guys?
30:36What's this?
30:38If you can see me,
30:39that means somebody's
30:40around here focusing in.
30:42Unless you have...
30:43Do you know why
30:44they're doing that, though?
30:45Do you know why
30:46they're doing that?
30:47Look, look, look.
30:48Are you with the team?
30:50I'm with...
30:51Are you with the team
30:51that took the car?
30:52I'm with the team.
30:53Which team are you with?
30:54I'm with the team
30:55called Overhaulin'.
30:57I don't know that team.
30:59Do you know
30:59the Overhaulin' team?
31:00I don't know
31:00what you're talking about.
31:01Are you with the team?
31:02I'm with...
31:02Are you with Phil
31:03or are you with the guys
31:04that took my car?
31:05No, I'm with the team
31:06that took your car.
31:07You took my car?
31:08Yeah.
31:09You know...
31:10I can't believe this.
31:11Do you know where it is?
31:12I know where it is.
31:13Yeah.
31:14Okay.
31:14I know where it is.
31:15In about five seconds,
31:16I'm going to call the cops
31:17and we're going to go back.
31:17You don't know.
31:18I can give you your car back.
31:20You can give me my car back?
31:21I can give you your car back.
31:22How are you going to get it back to me?
31:23I know where it is.
31:25Where?
31:25It's at a garage.
31:28Is it close by?
31:29It's close.
31:30It's close.
31:31Time to let them know.
31:33You don't know
31:34the TV show
31:34called Overhaulin'
31:35where they steal your car
31:37and then a week
31:37they turn it into a show car
31:38and then they give it back to you?
31:40No.
31:41You don't know that show?
31:42No, you guys, no.
31:43Are you serious?
31:43You're on Overhaulin', man.
31:46You have no idea.
31:47My blood was racing.
31:50I was getting ready
31:51to open up on you.
31:53Oh, man.
31:54That is too far.
31:55Congratulations, man.
31:56Oh, man, thank you.
31:57How are you feeling right now?
31:59It's kind of weird
31:59to go from pissed
32:00to being excited.
32:02Right.
32:03It's definitely a 180.
32:04No, it's...
32:05I am...
32:05I'm going to faint
32:06in about two seconds.
32:07This is really good.
32:08Wait till he sees the car.
32:10Man.
32:10Got him.
32:11Six o'clock, day one.
32:13We're going to have
32:14this thing disassembled
32:15and get ready to start...
32:16Probably get it over
32:17to media blasting a little bit.
32:19Oh, wait, wait, wait.
32:20No, that was a week ago.
32:21Because it's D-Day
32:22and the Mark's in the trailer
32:23and we're trying
32:24to get the car together.
32:25But I'd say we're probably about...
32:28We're maybe an hour away.
32:30So, Dennis, have fun waiting.
32:31We're going to get this assembled
32:32and get it back to you.
32:33And we know that's going to happen
32:35now that we've figured out
32:36just what was going on
32:37between the tranny
32:38and the engine.
32:38With all that now kosher,
32:40it's time to give this Firebird
32:41a gallon or two of fuel.
32:43Transmission situation
32:44has been solved.
32:46We're ready to go in
32:47with the transmission.
32:48I got my help under the car
32:49and everything's set
32:51for finishing up.
32:53It's coming together.
32:54All right, it's about 6.30 p.m.
32:56on D-Day.
32:56The West Coast Customs crew
32:58is here to check out
32:59the final result.
33:00Now, Buck, I heard a rumor
33:02that you and your friend
33:03were having a little conversation
33:04about how you guys
33:05didn't think we really
33:05finished it in a week.
33:06I got to admit, man,
33:07I didn't think they were
33:10going to come out
33:10this nice, man.
33:11You know, usually
33:11they're on TV
33:12and you can get away
33:13with a lot,
33:14but they didn't leave
33:16any stone unturned.
33:17I mean, they went
33:19all out on this car.
33:20Well, you know why it is?
33:21It's Chip Foose.
33:22Everything trickles down
33:23from Chip, man.
33:23Chip doesn't put his name
33:24on anything that's going
33:25to be a piece of junk.
33:26I believe it.
33:28Anybody out there
33:29who doesn't believe
33:29these cars are not
33:30top-notch, man,
33:31they are top-notch cars.
33:33I've seen it.
33:35They converted.
33:36We got another one.
33:37Welcome to the church
33:37of overhauling.
33:38Yeah, baby.
33:39And welcome to more problems.
33:41So, transmission's in.
33:42What's the ETN
33:43firing up the engine?
33:45Well, we've been hitting
33:46a couple walls here.
33:48It looks like we've probably
33:49got about an hour
33:50we're going to fire it up.
33:51Got to make the spark plug
33:52wires, put the valve covers
33:53on, hook the heater hose up.
33:55We've already got gas
33:56in the tank.
33:57We already have Dennis
33:58on ice next door,
33:59so we have to make this work
34:00and we have to do it now.
34:20So, now the ride
34:21is ready for showtime.
34:23I love that sound.
34:24Now it's time for Dennis
34:26to see his 69 Pontiac Firebird.
34:28Oh, f***.
34:30Get ready to hear some bleeps.
34:32When Dennis likes something,
34:33he knows how to express himself.
34:35Oh, man.
34:41Wow.
34:42Backstage, Stephanie watches it all.

35:25along with Lincoln Electric and Avalon,
35:27the shop that brought BFGoodrich together with Boost Wheels.
35:30They all gave us a hand, transforming the ride from side to side,
