00:00It's moving day here on Overhauling as we empty a packed full garage and bag a very special ride in the sweep.
00:08That's right, it's a classic vehicle that for some has become the standard for as cool as a car can possibly be.
00:14And it will be after we're done with it, because you know the drill here.
00:17This is where the owner gets tricked and the car gets tricked out.
00:20That's right, right here, right now on Overhauling.
00:30Hey, I'm Courtney.
00:48I'm Chris.
00:50What's left to say after you've said 64 Corvette?
00:53Actually, there's plenty to say if you happen to be the owner of that certain vet that we're taking, remaking, and giving back all in a seven-day frenzy.
01:00And the owner was the object of this whole surprise party?
01:03Connie Eastman, who became a Corvette owner when her dad gave her the special car as a graduation present back when she was a teenager.
01:09Now her husband Pete is our stealthy insider, and he knows his wife loves this car.
01:14How much does she love it? Check this out.
01:16She's been wanting to redo this car for years, but hey, life happens, right?
01:21So as we go steal the car, we're going to have to take everything out of her garage, including Pete's stuff.
01:26So on this fateful morning, our hidden cameras catch Connie leaving for the work day.
01:31Totally clueless as to just what we have in store for both her and her Corvette.
01:35All right, that's some of what's going on.
01:37Now let's grab the A-Team and go clean out that garage.
01:40Now this A-Team is really the A-plus team, because a car of this magnitude deserves a crew with the right attitude.
01:47Check out this bunch.
01:48Brian Fuller is a pro fabricator and builder at Foose Design.
01:52Speaking of Foose, Chip's hot rod building dad is here.
01:55Sam Foose, welcome to Overhaul.
01:57Mitch Lanzini is back to give us another A-Team quality paint job.
02:01Also from Lanzini's shop is paint whiz Carl Richmond.
02:05Special friend to everyone here is Cammie Edelbrock.
02:08She's both a car fiend and a top line racer.
02:11We're here at Automotive Expertise Unlimited, owned by Steve Luvisi, one of the top Corvette doctors in the business.
02:18And Team Captainship Foose is here to once again lead the way, working our rebuild as he gets out his pencils and draws his Corvette into a true thing of beauty.
02:27All right, now that's the team. Let's check out the scheme.
02:30Well, you're her husband, so you're biased, but tell us a little bit about her personality.
02:35Meticulous, very into details, loves to organize things.
02:44She'd have an absolute ball with this whole operation.
02:48Yeah.
02:49She'd just think that was too much fun to play with.
02:51Why is Cammie so deserving of something this special?
02:54Phenomenal person, loves her kids, loves her family, and truly loves her car.
03:01You know, as far as material possessions go, this is it.
03:06All right, folks, we're all going to pile into the moving truck, which is outside.
03:10So we're all going to be hauling moving company team members today.
03:14We're going to load every single movable object in that garage that's going on the truck.
03:19Give me a shirt. Let's move.
03:20All right, here we go. Let's do this thing. A team on the lift. Come on now. Let's go. Look alive, baby.
03:27Come on.
03:28Get up on the wrong side of the bed.
03:30Come on, baby.
03:31Get up on the foose side of the bed.
03:35Come on, boy. You're a wuss. Drive.
03:38It's a long ways from base camp to the Mark's house.
03:41Faster.
03:42And the A team just couldn't wait to get there.
03:45Like soldiers and the Trojan horse, they're sneaking up in disguise,
03:49bracing themselves for a long and grueling session.
03:52Day one, 10 a.m.
03:54Here's the vet right here.
03:56But as you can see, there's a ton of stuff above it, on the side of it, below it, all around it.
04:01We've got to get everything out of here before we can get to the car.
04:04We've got the whole A team here working.
04:05Stop, stop, stop.
04:07See?
04:08There you go.
04:09But we never forget, this is a show about humor.
04:11Nice, nice.
04:12On the truck.
04:13Thanks, buddy.
04:14Who's supposed to put me to work?
04:15I've got to go.
04:20Let's load everything in there, and the gas cancels.
04:24Safe.
04:25There must be a thing here somewhere.
04:30Connie, we're doing all this for you.
04:32Not only are you going to get your vet overhauled, you're cooling up, you're also going to get your garage clean up.
04:37Unfortunately, we're going to be limited on the colors that we can use on this car,
04:40because this is what we found, and this is what I'll use to design the vehicle.
04:43Pete said take everything.
04:44Connie, we'll be more off guard this week if we make it a clean sweep.
04:48Here at Overhauling Garage, we take care of everybody's valuables.
04:51We move with care and gentle quality.
04:55Overhauling tip number 302.
04:57Be sure you don't bury all your moving straps underneath all your stuff.
05:03Keep all your valuables.
05:051932 built.
05:11Let's roll.
05:12Bye-bye, Corvette.
05:14At Overhauling, we don't do things small.
05:17Take, for instance, this giant passport semi-carrier that's here on this tiny street to move Connie's Corvette.
05:25So there it is.
05:26That dusty, neglected 1964 Corvette that has no idea a brand new life is right around the corner.
05:36Ready for the swap meet.
05:38Hey, get that thing out of here!
05:40Oh, yeah.
05:41Hard to believe, but they were even able to fit Pete's 73 VW thing in that crowded and cluttered garage.
05:51Okay, that's it.
05:52Time to get back over to Automotive Expertise Unlimited and turn Connie's Corvette into a cool, coveted coach.
05:58Yeah.
05:59But this conversion won't be easy.
06:00As we're already finding out, the car is in one sad and sorry state.
06:05In short, some people are already muttering, impossible.
06:09Day one is just before the weekend.
06:12We need to get some parts ordered today so that hopefully we can get them for a Saturday morning delivery and not be dead in the water for three days.
06:20Very true.
06:21You take the bumpers off first.
06:22You have to take the bumper brackets off with them.
06:24You have to take the rocker panels off the side.
06:27You have to actually remove the rear tires to get to the access panel for the body mounts.
06:31Have you had it up?
06:32How's the chassis look?
06:33Want to see how rusted the chassis is?
06:34Because if it's real bad, I don't know that we want to separate this body from the chassis.
06:40Oh, first part.
06:42This bracket's bent, but you know, mainly the bumper and a couple bumper brackets.
06:49All the brackets.
06:53A lot of those parts will come from Long Island Corvette, the only guys on the continent who can come up with the right stuff for this car.
06:59Mid-America has sent us some trailing arms that are kicked in so we get two inches of space to go with a wider tire underneath.
07:07The one really cool custom element that I want to put on this car is something that my dad used to do to a lot of cars back in the 70s is that big real trick moon cap.
07:17We'll put that in the back and shape the body around it.
07:20I think that would be a fun little trick.
07:21It's something that I remember as a kid and I'd like to see him do it again.
07:25For Chip Foose, this build is going to be a father and son project.
07:28It's pretty cool having my dad here. I started working with him when I was seven years old.
07:32If you're going forward and you're giving it 110%, then everybody's going to follow.
07:37So lead by example.
07:39Yeah. He's a genius. Just like his dad.
07:43Okay, go ahead.
07:47A lot of heebie-jeebies in this car.
07:49Okay, time to pull it all apart.
07:51Just like that.
07:52The bumpers tighten them up, make them look a little better.
07:57The only thing is we have to make sure they clear the lights.
08:00And the grill is pretty well toast. The trim is, as you can see, the trim is pretty well toast.
08:07I mean, it looks like almost everything needs to be replaced.
08:13As if deconstruction isn't enough, this girl finds time to work out.
08:17Next, we take the tires off. We get to this panel that's inside the wheel well.
08:25There's another body mount behind that panel that's going to need to take off in order to get the body off the frame.
08:31Let's face it. This car is in bad shape.
08:34So we can't stop thanking our lucky stars over the fact that we have Steve LaVisi on board.
08:37Anything you want to know about Corvettes? Steve's the guy to ask.
08:41They're fun.
08:42This is his 100th Corvette that he's worked on.
08:45100 body off.
08:46100 body off. So not just like, you know, doing an oil change or a little restoration.
08:50100 body off the frame, ground up, jam restoration.
08:56When you look around this shop, it's just like, this is Corvette heaven.
08:59So if you're a Corvette fan, this is your god right here.
09:02Steve is a lone wolf builder, but the man truly loves his work.
09:05Even when the job seems totally impossible, doing a body off Corvette in a ridiculous seven-day period.
09:12Seat number two.
09:18All right, Connie, here you go. Your new interior. What do you think?
09:22The glamorous life of hot rod building on TV right here.
09:26This is insanity.
09:29What's insane is that after a few short hours, this body is already coming off its chassis.
09:35There goes the manifold.
09:37Metal shavings in the oil pan from a motor we thought we were going to keep.
09:41I would say it looks fried.
09:44Coming up, how's the car going to move if we don't have a motor?
09:47On day one here at Oberhollen, it was a big heist as the A-Team posed his movers, swiped Connie's Corvette, and then high-tailed it here to Automotive Expertise Unlimited.
09:53After that, disassembly began and so did the countdown. Six days left to make this old ride cool for Pete's unsuspecting life.
09:58But right now, it's back to Steve Luvisi's shop and back to work.
10:02It's day two, 10 a.m.
10:04Pete, what are you thinking Connie's doing right at this very second?
10:06She's getting out of bed.
10:07She's getting out of bed.
10:08She's getting out of bed.
10:09Saturday morning is her slow morning.
10:10So, she's right across from her garage is outside, there's no car in it, there's nothing in it, and she doesn't even know about it.
10:22Nothing about it.
10:23The garage is outside.
10:24There's no car in it, there's nothing in it.
10:26There's nothing in it.
10:27And she doesn't even know about it.
10:29Nothing about it.
10:31What is it?
10:32She's getting out of bed.
10:33Her car is the garage outside and there's no car.
10:35So, she's getting out of bed.
10:37nothing about it have you been are you nervous right now that she might figure
10:42out what's going on I was very nervous yesterday she loves this car and hates
10:46the fact that she can't use it it was in horrible shape as we could see from day
10:52one yeah day one gave us that shock the motor is junk and that's after Pete said
10:58it only had 3,000 miles on it where'd she get this motor no we have Cammie at
11:03the rescue nastiness pure nastiness beautiful yeah look at that amazing there
11:18is something shiny hey there's a cell phone in there day two we need a crate
11:25engine a whole engine is a lot to ask for so Cammie drafts chip when it comes to
11:30calling her dad the great Vic Edelbrock hey uncle Vic how's the boat you
11:35catching anything just relaxing don't get a sunburn we have a problem with this
11:42motor yeah no it's it's pretty much trashed so we were hoping maybe we can go
11:49shopping and get a get a complete crate motor anything we want are you serious
11:55oh my gosh it's great oh you're the best all right we're about halfway through
12:04the second day ever overhaul and build here 64 vet for our mark Connie and as
12:08you can see got the chassis on the flatbed we're about to take it over to
12:11precision powder coating I have it sandblasted and powder coated and surfs
12:15up so I guess we're out of here we're worked out all right so this build is
12:22taking place at Steve LaVisi's automotive expertise and limited but
12:26what's you really unique about this build is that it's happening in this hooked up
12:31hot rod alley we have foos design down here foos has been running back and forth
12:35up the street we have Lanzini body works for the cars being painted a little
12:39further down we have fiber technology and design where the interior is
12:43happening and right across the street SW transmissions could we ask for more
12:47with the chassis and engine in motion the whole gang along with Sam foos and
12:51team Lanzini attack that stubborn brittle old body to think that I was a biology
12:57major to make it through to mixing fiberglass who just don't get it takes a
13:03lot of chemistry to be able to mix fiberglass even at this early stage we
13:09have to ask ourselves a 1964 fiberglass body in only seven days what were we
13:15thinking when we took on this project for chip the personality of this
13:22particular ride isn't about body mods it's going to come from the paint scheme
13:28that's right so our resident genius draws up the car as a template for his
13:33forthcoming Corvette coloring book all right that's it I'm gonna go make some
13:36copies of this at Kinko's come back get some color sketches and different graphic
13:40ideas and figure out where we're going day three started with a gift Kami went
13:44down to the family store and raided the top shelf guess what I have yeah
13:49presents from Edelbrock
13:52it's a transmission winner winner winner winner winner winner and the big winner
13:58doesn't even know she's won you know generosity backed by a one-of-a-kind up
14:03for you growing up in the yellow rock family was we worked hard we played hard
14:09working with chip has been amazing I'm learning so much about how he thinks
14:15and about how he creates and Steve he works all by himself and he has the
14:21patience to teach me help me dismantle an engine my passion for racing for cars no
14:31way it's not going anywhere in fact it's just gonna get better doing shows like
14:36overhauling I mean it just makes it it makes it that much better this is really
14:42fun for me that fun might fade a few days from now especially with the work this
14:46body needs at the moment Sam has to rebuild parts of the car that have
14:50deteriorated broken off or just plain disappeared
14:53Sam is a professional's pro so when chip wants a tip on how to make the new gas cap ago he knows who to talk to you the cap itself goes on mm-hmm I
15:08I rolled it on the tank on the tank I welded a flange around the gap and then
15:15this bolted to the plan I just put the cap on it and then drop the body on yeah
15:21this just actually I made it so this would fit through and then I just put
15:25like four screws this body is taking its toll with Mitch's supplies I bought a lot
15:32of materials I didn't anticipate I was gonna need even more last night I put two
15:37gallons on this thing and it sucked it up like a sponge that fiberglass is so
15:40dry and so porous that I would just literally spray and I could just see it
15:45just going oh just sucking right into the car it's a more upbeat story back at
15:49LaVisi's as Steven Mitch jr. play with the new toy they're having the crate motor
15:54saves us between a half a day to a day's worth of work at this point I really don't
15:58know what color I want to go with the car that's the purpose of these sketches I
16:02can throw down several different ideas we can look at them get some ideas of
16:07where we want to go with the car and make that decision and head that way our
16:12insider Pete said his wife once talked about red as a possible color but Foose
16:16knows that red is the most used and perhaps overused color on the Corvette
16:20market today my whole thought behind these cars is if someone were to see this
16:28car from 300 yards they know it's the one they saw an overall it's already late
16:33in the game late enough to have a final color scheme but leave it to chip to have
16:38three wild options available this far into the build that's the overhauling
16:42Corvette coming up a trio of possibilities but the car can only have
16:47one paint job what's it gonna be
16:58on days two and three of our overhaul and build bodywork fiberglass stripping it
17:03down to the chassis these were all much used words and phrases as the design for
17:07the redo began and we kicked it into gear all in an attempt to get this 64 Corvette
17:12in shape and looking incredible oh and the engine well we thought we'd rebuild the
17:16old one that is until we took the oil pan down and find a little too much metal so
17:21basically the old engine is a paperweight and we were looking for a crate
17:24engine to toss in there and make this thing happen and who came through with
17:28that crate motor none other than our own Cammy Edelbrock slipping down to the
17:32family shop and then heading back to us with a nice big heavy surprise as for the
17:37overall build it is happening but in order to make our seven-day deadline we're
17:41gonna have to get this thing going what's Connie up to today she works till
17:461130 and then she goes to real estate classes in the afternoon and she usually
17:51comes home how are you feeling I'm a little nervous you are yeah it's a little
17:56apprehensive to mess with my wife's baby this is her third baby how did she get
18:05the car original the car belonged to her dad he bought it in the early 70s and it
18:11was given to her as a motivational tool to get good grades in school and as an
18:20early and as an early graduation present and it's always been her dream to have
18:24the car fixed up oh yeah yeah yeah it's been a huge that's why you guys have
18:28been hanging on to it yeah yeah is she gonna let you drive it
18:31probably not is she gonna let your kids drive it no that was a flat note I can't
18:36wait to see this one done time for a big prank it's gonna be an overhauling
18:40quartet playing crime seat investigators face to face with our mark Connie all
18:45right so here's the deal this is how gag is gonna work we're gonna be a
18:49crime scene investigation team investigating the burglary of Pete and
18:55Connie's garage Brian you're gonna be crime scene photographer you're gonna be
18:59having a still camera as well as a moving camera chip you're gonna be the
19:04crime scene sketch artist the straighter we play this the better it's gonna come
19:08off you know Pete has told us Connie is a very perceptive woman very astute and
19:14she'll she'll catch us hopefully Connie will kind of guide us towards a Corvette
19:17because of everything that was stolen obviously that's the most important
19:20thing to her let's get it in come on come on get it in here overhaul on three one two three
19:26Connie has been unaware of our empty garage since the heist so we set up our crime scene and had Pete
19:38call her home from work giving Connie this newly discovered bad news my Jacobs
19:43investigator Jacobs what's your name CJ CJ okay so my initials as well what's your name sir Peter Peter
19:50okay well the Corvette wasn't running mm-hmm and could you you couldn't even pull it straight
19:56out you had to doll it you had to jack it up yeah pull it out and it was a 64 Corvette that was you
20:02know I'm sorry it was not running that's okay well I want you to know first of all that these guys
20:08their MO has typically been to take the stuff out of the garage and then they don't come back so I
20:14don't want you to think that there's anything wrong with them coming back you're perfectly safe
20:18we've got surveillance units on the house okay we have an idea of who these guys are okay so we're
20:24gonna do everything in our power to get you not only your your stuff back but your peace of mind as
20:29well and I want you to know that you're you're in good hands with the police department working in
20:33conjunction with the Orange County sheriffs and the Ford Fullerton Police Department and I do not
20:39I actually was just transferred in okay I can work what I did was I wrote down this is my cell phone
20:45number okay and that's me detective Jacobs any questions you have any problems 24 hours a day
20:50you call that number okay it would help us out in our investigation if you don't ask anybody around
20:56because we don't want to tip anybody off in case the you know perpetrators are neighbors of yours
21:01Pete why don't I spend some time with CJ here okay and then I can catch up with you in a couple minutes
21:08when's the last time you drove the car oh gosh we've lived here a year and a half so probably
21:15about a year and a half ago when we got it running enough to to move it into this house right and then
21:19we we pulled it in jacked it up and um and put it to the side and then the shelving was built around it
21:27okay the fiberglass um had some spider cracks in it so my husband said he didn't feel comfortable with
21:31me driving around and it was the kind of thing where um it was we were going to refurbish it and
21:36kids and right it just got further and further down the list I understand you know that it was the
21:42only thing I had left of my dad yeah well we're going to do everything in our power to get it back
21:46for you so I want you to be confident in that right and we're definitely we have a very strong
21:51lead on these guys okay okay we are now headed for a buzzsaw and later Pete told us just how we got
21:58headed that way when they sent her out of the garage to get me to be interviewed she holds up
22:03the little white piece of paper that Chris gave her and said I'm going to check on this and she
22:09went in the house and called Fullerton police because there was no proper ID
22:15Brian roll with me how you doing hi how are you
22:20this is a hidden camera show for TLC we're in cahoots with the husband we're redoing the wife's
22:29car she called you guys because she's not buying what we're doing we're posing as a forensics team
22:34and uh we're about to get out of here right now but we were just getting her on hidden camera
22:38and everything since the guy who's actually designing the car shops down in Huntington Beach
22:42myself and the lady are the host of the show and this is another one of the designers
22:46are you kidding me no with the operation hanging by a thread this whole overhauling train was about
22:53to derail now you warned us you said she was a very intelligent person if things don't make sense
22:59to her she will go like a bulldog after it and so what happened well the coolest cops on the force
23:06backed us up making us look totally legit in the eyes of a once skeptical but now totally apologetic
23:11Connie I'm sorry guys no no not at all not at all I'd be the same you did the right thing
23:16absolutely you absolutely did the right thing you absolutely didn't worry about it he was telling us
23:21the car was your baby but like I said I mean I'm not going to sleep until I get this car back to you
23:25okay oh my gosh that was such a close call Connie didn't even buy it at first we thought we were so
23:31smooth and she was a little suspicious so she went inside she called the police please show up
23:38we're this close to being busted hope we find these criminals and hunt them down and put them
23:45in jail where they belong they should be shot get a load of this our eccentric mr foos is on one of
23:54his flights of fancy chips not satisfied to do just one car makeover this week no he also insists on
24:00surprising Connie's husband with a redo of Pete's VW thing so while the Corvette continues its transformation
24:06we take the thing over to Brian down at Anaheim Hills auto body and paint foos now has two color
24:13schemes to figure out this is 1973 74 was the last year this is the 73 and this is stock orange here
24:19okay I want to keep it stock okay let's do the roll bar okay and the wheels silver you got it black out the
24:27hose okay and then if we could I'd like to replace the headlight okay no problem and a set of wipers
24:32right that's easy Revo is gonna be putting a new top on oh good all right we're gonna take the roll
24:36bar out now and the top off now and just start standing on the inside excellent we'll start prepping
24:40it hopefully we get color on it by tomorrow afternoon thank you so much you're welcome so while the thing is
24:45getting its bling Chris roars from shop to shop checking up on the status of the Corvette it's coming
24:51together location by location the VCs engineering that powertrain Brian is still sculpting the bumpers
24:57foos is working it with the wheels and SW transmission is rolling in with the good stuff beautiful full
25:04full ready to rock so now that Steve from SW has delivered the tranny it's time to hook it all up
25:21so while the engine gang is thrilled
25:51by the shipment Sam and Brian are thrilled to see the end in sight with their endless bumper
25:56makeover four days for the bumpers so Pete I understand yesterday was pretty dramatic what do
26:02we have to worry about in terms of the next couple days if we don't keep her strung along well by hearing
26:09from the cops on a regular basis she's gonna be out canvassing the neighborhood herself you know Pete's
26:15right it's time to make a call as we try to keep curious Connie in check and we do have some real
26:21good leads on what's going on but we're about to set up a surveillance of a Corvette restoration shop
26:26that we think may be behind the rash of Corvette thefts that have been happening around your neighborhood
26:33um have you seen the vehicle we haven't seen the vehicle itself but we have talked to a bunch of
26:39people who live and work around the shop and they said that they have seen uh at least two possibly
26:46three later model Corvettes come into the shop and one they said was a silver one which I'm hoping is
26:54going to be your car okay it's amazing it's nerve-wracking to watch and to be so close to but what a great
27:02payoff yeah at the moment he's finally mixing colors picking out the pigment with Lewis over at BASF
27:08so finally the vet is ready for the first stage of its radical and custom design paint scheme and
27:15the colors well we still don't know just yet yeah these guys have been working on this body non-stop
27:28since the build began so by sunrise on the following day it was time for chip to check out the top color
27:38and put the next shade into the shuffle and this meant that Lewis was also up bright and early mixing
27:52around the other colors that will be climbing on board Connie's Corvette the shaker here for about
28:00a couple minutes so we get it all nice and agitated
28:05near the division of the two main shades is an intense and defining fade a subtle design that seems
28:18to say hey I don't need a body's worth of bright color to show off after all I'm a Corvette coming
28:25up it's time for Steve Louvici to show us all the mathematics of the Corvette
28:30Connie knows she has a gem in her 1964 Chevrolet Corvette a car she's had for a long time and for good
28:45reason this ride is a classic now Connie's Corvette is known as a second generation Corvette the first
28:52generation Corvette started rolling off the line in 1953 the new second generation line was launched a
28:58decade later in 63 and that's when the world saw the debut of the incredible stingray body a two
29:05passenger coupe design soon joined the convertible for the first time now this car featured a split rear
29:11window design as well as independent rear suspension and fuel injection hey Richard what's happening
29:16well I'm here to get the seats oh we decided with the race car seats it's the firebird seats firebird
29:23yeah okay this is the the leather we're going to be using on the inserts you know the ventilating unit
29:46will breathe through this and how much air would transfer it it's not going to be blowing out of
29:53the seat it's going to be just you know slowly coming out it's not a wind tunnel but it's just
29:59designed to basically just a warm and cool the seat it's warm and cool the seat yes that's basically the
30:05idea I have in my head of what this interior looks like when it's done is if somebody went and bought a
30:09brand new 64 corvette the interior is basically going to be stock they have a nice stereo in it but
30:15what we've done is just just kind of clean up the body a bit okay gone with the colors and stance and
30:22wheels and tires well this year's been a nice yeah the love is going to add a real special touch to it's
30:27going to give it make it a very elegant looking interior it's great yeah like I said wrapping the
30:32panels like this is supposed to just painting them it makes it look very rich and it just goes really
30:38well with everything beautiful so it's going to be an upgrade well I'm going to get out of here so
30:42you can get busy alrighty thanks have a good day anything just uh you got it as for the non-racing
30:48vets well they were offered with such luxury items as power steering leather seats and air conditioning
30:52now a lot of that gear carried over to Connie's 1964 corvette that's right the 64 vet featured such
30:59improvements as better installation higher horsepower and a much smoother ride
31:03oh this is a takes a piece of plastic it makes it look like wood no the steering wheel was a wood grain
31:15originally but it would have been it was cracked from age and stuff so we had to fill it and fix it so
31:23I'm just going to paint it and make it look trick again
31:27by dragging the brush across the smoke you leave some of the black and it gives it a nice wood grain effect
31:38the first time I've ever done a wheel but first time for everything
31:48well this is sort of like a very light transparent brown I put over the smoke and the light color
32:01that started off with and it the more coats you put on the darker it gets the more it looks like wood
32:07and then it'll get probably four to five coats of clear urethane which it'll wear for years believe it or not
32:19well that's it it's a heater ventilating system see it has a small fan down here and what we need to do
32:32is we made this little die cutter here and what we need to do is we need to put this on the press so
32:37we can cut out that square and then the fan will actually go right into that recess and it gets a
32:46little bit of padding on top so that you won't even feel it's there we're going to see how much air
32:57we're actually going to get out of this it's supposed to put out 13.1 cubic feet per minute so here we go
33:04so that's what we basically have happening inside the seat and by having the little blower as supposed
33:14to a fan it doesn't reduce the amount of volume it puts out regardless of the static pressure involved
33:22so that's basically what we're going to be putting inside the seat yeah this is what you're going to
33:26be blowing up like but through here it just comes out yeah the layer jets all over the place makes it
33:32feel good now the corvette is never something you'd want to call an overly produced car each model was
33:37somewhat of a limited run in 1964 only about 22,000 were produced the convertibles came in with about
33:4414,000 made and the coops a mere 8,304 yeah Connie knew she had gold when she stowed that vet and lucky
33:53for her Pete gave us the keys and we cleaned our garage out good but now it's back to the build
33:58because we're going to finish something that's never going to get put in mop balls again
34:01all right it's d-day and uh the corvette still has quite a ways to go but the guys have been up
34:15all night they're making steady progress and uh how's Connie doing she called me 10 minutes ago
34:21and said should i be concerned that there's two guys walking down the street with a gas can in their
34:27hand oh no and i just laughed hey Pete got a haircut just for the occasion it's a big day here you
34:34gotta have new hair to go with the new car the excitement is building along with the car but if
34:39we've learned anything here at overholland it's this if something can snag us up in the 11th hour
34:44it will Connie a lot of love went into this car and uh i hope you love it and i hope you give me a ride in
34:52it sometime in the end it's the little things that catch your eye you know we don't overlook even the
35:00finest details here dennis rickliffe's is painting the corvette emblems hey how's it going uh i talked
35:10to the detective and he said he's got some leads that are working real well looking at this shop
35:17you're trying to steal my job aren't you and he said that uh chances are because the detective's
35:26not given us much information and he's walking working with orange county sheriff uh they're
35:31probably looking at us for insurance to cinch the deal here today chip brings in a last minute ringer
35:37automotive genius steve greninger from foos design just up the block there we're going to try to pop
35:42this ball joint let everything fall out towards me and the spring will relax it we'll take the whole
35:47spring out we can cut it with a torch finish the end off put it back in reverse the process we're
35:53in the home stretch here just a couple hours away from the reveal looking at this corvette i'm just
35:58thinking this is the smallest car that we've done yet and everybody's trying to get their hands on it
36:03and do their job before the reveal foos's nitrous thrust wheels have arrived bf goodrich tires looking
36:16awesome it's looking awesome but sounding like nothing until that ignition key is turned quite
36:21rightfully cami insists that we follow edelbrock protocol and have this motor running for at least
36:2615 minutes before we pull the curtain with the motor thoroughly tested the problem has to be
36:40something that leads up to this brand new edelbrock crate engine i think the carburetor's fine uh two
36:46carburetors out of one are doing the same thing so it would say something else in my past history it's
36:51got to be too much fuel pressure overriding the uh floats which pushes the needle valve opens which
36:58floods the carburetor so with adjustments phone calls emergency part orders and all that goes along
37:03with a frenzy the team tries everything all in an attempt to get this corvette running in time for the
37:08big reveal over the phone suggestions just aren't cutting it so it looks like a new fuel pressure regulator
37:17is what the doctor is prescribing but with the clock ticking down to nada it's time to either
37:22perform every trick in the book or simply just toss in the towel all right it's definitely crunch time
37:29now this is d-day it is five after five and the car hasn't even started yet they're putting the finishing
37:34touches on throwing the carburetor on the thing needs to run for about 15 20 minutes to kind of break
37:39the engine in now uh connie and her husband pete are on the freeway right now heading down to dinner i've
37:45got to make a phone call to them to reroute them to come over here so they can identify her stolen
37:49stuff which is in the truck standing outside so everything's ready to go pranks all set up but
37:55unfortunately we haven't had to start the car yet we gotta make sure it's running before we haven't
37:58come over here obviously so that's what's going on hope we make it the engine's getting a lot of
38:05attention but the gang still has to finish their work on the interior and the body in other words the hustle is on
38:15meanwhile stitchcraft finished the top and interior of pete's vw thing heads up coming your way since
38:22they didn't know about the vehicle's kill switch revo and the guys had to push it all the way over
38:27from their shop a mile up the road all right so here's the deal they're putting the uh finishing
38:31touches on the vet i'm going to make a phone call to pete tell him that we've taken the shop down i'm
38:36going to call him back in about five minutes give him directions on how i get down here so they can
38:39identify their stuff okay with a new fuel pressure regulator finally arriving and installed it's time for one
38:45last try
39:07chris has been stalling pete who's stalling connie but now that the car is all done stalling it's showtime
39:15and the funny thing is we're on our way to newport beach we're hoping that this is the large panel
39:19truck what we need you to do is identify a few pieces bicycle the wagon this is crazy you know
39:26this wasn't the stuff i was hoping you'd find now that she knows that we have her stuff we thought
39:31we'd throw connie off track yet again by showing her one of the other corvettes here on nuvisi's lot
39:36honey honey it's shinier than it was
39:39it's not it it's not it that's a 65 now the 64. the sides are different oh yeah they are this is not
39:49your car i said this is shinier no it's not seeing that we don't have her car connie tells us why her
39:54missing vet is so special to her it was my dad's car and he gave it to me um 25 years ago this month
40:01for my birthday wow sorry to bore you but i mean i would stick like we'd have six girls in this car
40:06and we'd drive around from party to partying wow this is a wild idea but it is possible that you're
40:14on a hidden camera tv show called overhauling and that your husband's been playing a joke on you all
40:19this week and we stole your car and your dream has just come true what would you say to that
40:31connie's dreams are beyond true one look and it's clear that she simply can't believe what she's seen
40:36it's beautiful
40:46seven days and a team of some of the most talented car people in the business
40:50it was a lot of work but the result well it speaks for itself
41:07it's amazing
41:11congratulations i'm sorry for putting you through it you saw how this was my
41:20my firstborn well i hope you like what we've done to it basically just just about 100 of the car is
41:25new this is amazing thank you okay now we're standing in steve levici's shop i'd like to introduce you to
41:33steve because steve he worked his tail off thank you so so much thank you you know steve was clean
41:42shaven when he started this we have a female builder on the team and i don't know if you've ever heard
41:50heard of the edelbrock family yes i'm sorry so we got to start this puppy up okay okay yep
42:06we hope you enjoy it oh i if i live through the night and not have a heart attack i will enjoy
42:21this so my my father would have been so happy he loved this car but all this talk of fathers doesn't
42:30end here chip also has a dad who's a big part of this story you know i know this was real special
42:35for you and your father and it's also special for me and my father because my dad just came out of
42:43retirement to work for a whole week thank you so much he's 70 years old and he worked circles around
42:50most of the guys on this project another memory we didn't just build a car we built memories and we
43:10build friendships uh well you've got a friend for life here this is this is mommy's corvette it doesn't
43:21doesn't it it looks pretty huh i just need to let you know you will never drive it it's mine
43:30one thing you have to know about chip foos he's never satisfied
43:40it's just too cool thank you so with both connie and pete getting one colossal christmas morning a
44:00few months early there's only one thing left for this couple to say hi i'm connie and i've been
44:05overhauled and i'm pete and i've also been overhauled
44:35i've been overhauled and i've been overhauled and i've been overhauled and i've been overhauled
44:46connie knows she has a gem in her 1964 chevrolet corvette a car she's had for a long time and for

45:43hey we'll miss you
45:46okay this is the the leather we're going to be using on the inserts you know the ventilating unit
