00:00That's Chris Jacobs, a man on a mission.
00:08That's AJ, a woman on the move.
00:10And that's Chip Foose, an artist on a level of his own.
00:13Today's overhauling features David as our marketer.
00:16He's the owner of a 69 GTO, a car we're gonna make cool in our cool car clubhouse.
00:21A clubhouse also known as Original Parts Group.
00:24Richard will be working as our insider.
00:26He's David's brother, and he'll clue us in regarding David as we work to keep David clueless.
00:31While Chip and the A-Team make the ride into one hot Pontiac.
00:34Here where the owner has no idea.
00:36While all the best ideas are put into his car.
00:39So yo, get ready as we go to get a GTO.
00:42And bring it to this happening hideout.
00:44Known to those in the know, and what they know is that it's known as overhauling.
00:48Yeah!
00:48David's about to have his GTO swiped by us.
01:18His brother, Richard, is working as our insider.
01:21Years ago, David was in an accident that left him paralyzed.
01:25Work on his prize GTO has been on the back burner ever since.
01:29David, it's now being brought to the front.
01:33Chris and his Totra get ready as David heads off to basketball practice.
01:37And as soon as our mark is cleared from the scene and out of the way, we'll put the plan in motion.
01:42Our thieves will head directly for a soon-to-be-overhauled 1969 Pontiac GTO.
01:47Ah, there we are, rolling up the road, just itching to get that ride.
01:51Well, we're about to scratch that itch.
01:53The ringleader appears, as confident and as cocky as ever, knowing our mark is in for one aggravating week, to be immediately followed by a lifetime of very cool driving.
02:04The car's currently missing most of its front end, making maneuvering a challenge.
02:08After basketball, David needs to study for his school finals.
02:14That's something important for us to know.
02:19With our mark having exams this week, we'll be pranking very carefully, knowing that when we prank hard, we have the ability to make some people angry enough to forget their own name.
02:28Time to get out of here.
02:30All right, let's roll.
02:31And roll is exactly what Chris and the guys do, right away from the home of David's family, over to the home of our family of builders.
02:39Some say I should seek therapy.
02:41You just can't stop them.
02:43Chris just snagged David's 69 GTO.
02:46From the looks of it, it's begging for an overhauling.
02:48Let's go!
02:50Woo-hoo!
02:50They quickly slide from jazzed to cautious.
02:54Looks all right at first glance.
02:56We'll see after we get it blasted.
02:59There's some rust back in.
03:01It sort of looks pretty good.
03:02Part of our work's already done.
03:03Front end's off it, engine's out of it, so that makes it easy.
03:05Yeah.
03:06Looks like somebody's done some work to it, and it looks like we've got a good base project to start with.
03:11The floor looks pretty solid.
03:12Yeah.
03:13It's morning of day one.
03:15The energy's great.
03:16We're ready to get this car inside.
03:17Yes, we are.
03:18And as it goes inside, it has no idea that it's about to be reinvented by one of the master designers in the automotive world.
03:25True enough.
03:26And that master designer goes by the name of Chip Foose.
03:29For a young guy, our Mark David sure does know his cool and classic machines.
03:34In love with a car born a long time before he was.
03:37Right now, it's not a whole ride, but it sure does have a whole lot of potential.
03:41Potential times 10 when you combine a GTO of this era with the redesigning mind of the one and only Chip Foose.
03:49Yeah, Chip loves the GTA.
03:51Well, if anyone's going to love this GTO again, we've got to get cracking right now.
03:59Diving deep into that mess that we call deconstruction.
04:02There's more to this build since there's presently less to the car.
04:09And to explain it all clear like, here's a man in black named Foose.
04:13All right, it's 2 o'clock, day one.
04:14We've got the car here.
04:15We're disassembling it.
04:16We'll get it over to Media Blast and see what we've got to work with.
04:19Meanwhile, we're looking for another car that we can bring in and get all the pieces off that car to build one complete car.
04:25My question, what's the condition of the car overall?
04:28Overall, I think the condition of the car is pretty decent.
04:31It's hard to say.
04:32I can tell there's a lot of filler on the car.
04:34There's a little bit of rust behind where the front fenders were.
04:36You know, some areas of the car get some guys more excited than others.
04:40But frankly, the only ones I know thrilled by a big old dirty trunk are the audio dudes.
04:45Pretty much what we want to do in this car.
04:46We want to showcase the Boston Acoustics with really high-end equipment.
04:49It's going to be rocking.
04:51After a fierce battle, a hero cries victory.
04:54Victory indeed, my fine warrior.
04:57And as the booty is retrieved from this treasure, there are those who search for the rot in the ride.
05:02See if we can get under here and find some rust.
05:05Oh, look.
05:08Eureka!
05:08Yeah, you'll find a K in this 69 GTO if you're looking.
05:12And that's why it's now time to take it into blast.
05:15And we're off.
05:18All right, 3.30 on day one.
05:20We've completed the deconstruction of the GTO.
05:22We're wheeling it outside.
05:23Going to get it up on the tow truck, get it over to Media Blast,
05:25and then we'll know how much work we've got to do.
05:28Our Mark's big brother talks to Chip.
05:31We've brought Richard in, who's our insider.
05:33And what do you know that David wanted to do to his car?
05:35Well, he wanted to get it, obviously, in running order.
05:39Is he a stock guy or a hot rod guy?
05:41More like a hot rod guy, too.
05:43Hot rod styling.
05:46Now wheels, would you go large wheels?
05:47I think he'd go with big wheels.
05:49Big wheels?
05:50What's his favorite color?
05:51He said something that, like, the Lexus has, like, an amethyst pearl color.
05:55Okay, great.
05:55There's a lot of good information for me to play with and create a sketch.
06:00We also have Steve here, who's in a wheelchair,
06:03and we can work with him to figure out how we can get it to where it all works for David.
06:06That'd be great.
06:07That'd be great if he could get into the car, get his chair loaded by himself and take off.
06:11Absolutely.
06:12Is there anything you'd like to say to David?
06:14David, it's payback.
06:15All the jokes you played on me, and this one, I hope, gets you all back followed.
06:18It's another GTO.
06:21All right, it's 8.15 p.m., day one.
06:24We got our donor car in from memory lane.
06:26It's not really a lot we can do with it.
06:28It's pretty rusted.
06:29We think we can save the frame.
06:30We're going to take some measurements and see if it's still straight.
06:33The other car is ready to be picked up at the Media Blaster,
06:35so we're going to have twice as much fun.
06:36We still need stuff.
06:38The most important things we needed were all the headlight,
06:42headlight components, all the brackets, all that stuff,
06:44and it's missing from this car, too.
06:46Right now, we're getting the car torn apart, the front end, all that.
06:48We thought we were going to be able to use.
06:50It turns out to be junk.
06:51So what we got right now is just the frame.
06:53We're getting everything off the frame,
06:55so we can strip it down and get it ready to powder good.
06:57Our Mark's car has already been stripped down,
07:00now returning to Original Parts Group.
07:029 p.m. on day one.
07:03Car just got back from the Media Blaster.
07:05Now we're going to find out what we're really working with.
07:07What we're really working with is some rust here,
07:09some rust there, and some rust in more places than we'd like.
07:12But luckily for David's ride,
07:14we also have replacement panels from Original Parts Group.
07:17Over at the rear quarter,
07:19Ben's already working with the new gear.
07:21We're going to use the whole wheel well opening here.
07:24The lip is pretty bad on this,
07:27so we're going to cut that out
07:28and weld that whole thing back in.
07:30It's work that goes late into the night.
07:33It's 2.30 into day one.
07:34We've got a lot of sheet metal work done.
07:36Should have most of the metal work done by midday tomorrow,
07:39and then we're going to start putting some mud on the car.
07:41Today when reality hits,
07:42it's easy to have dreams about getting ahead of schedule on day one.
07:45But on this second day, the truth arrives.
07:48Now all in all,
07:49this is not a car that you would call a rust bucket,
07:51but it did have its issues,
07:52and there is some metal work being done on the car.
07:55Scott from O'Reilly Auto Parts is working on something right now.
07:57Scott, what are you up to?
07:58Well, we're just replacing this piece of the rocker panel.
08:00You can see what they had done on it,
08:02and mudded it all up,
08:03and we're just cutting it out of there
08:05and putting all new metal in.
08:06From new metal to new parts,
08:07it's time to check out the goods.
08:09We just got our delivery from Original Parts Group.
08:11George, what do we have here?
08:13We've got new fenders, new hood, radiator support,
08:16pretty much anything you can think of.
08:18It's all right here.
08:19It's all here, yeah.
08:20The whole front end is right here
08:21because that's what we needed,
08:22and Original Parts Group was able to supply it for us.
08:24From new parts to old pals,
08:26a buddy returns to the team.
08:27One of our good friends is back with us
08:29on this episode of Overhawn.
08:30Steve, wheels, the general.
08:33David is wheelchair-bound as well.
08:35Yes.
08:35We're hoping between Chip's vision
08:37and what I've got connections to
08:39and, you know, the seats, the hand control,
08:42it's going to be so accessible.
08:44All he's going to do is jump in,
08:45tear his chair apart, throw it in,
08:46and he's good to go.
08:47First off, we got some Cobra seats,
08:50which are reclinable.
08:51So that will lay back,
08:52which gives him a lot of room
08:53between the steering column and himself.
08:56That's one thing.
08:57The hand control that we're getting from Manox is awesome.
09:01It's a little hand control right here.
09:02It's carbon fiber, gas, and brake.
09:05He'll be able to control everything off of the knob.
09:07That's awesome.
09:08Well, David, look out, man.
09:09You only got about six days left
09:11before you get your car back.
09:12And just like wheels said, the ultimate freedom.
09:15Let's dial up David.
09:16Time for a phone prank.
09:17We're about to call David
09:18and get some information from him
09:20about his stolen GTO.
09:22Now, he's a fan of the show.
09:23He watches.
09:24He might recognize my voice,
09:25so I'm going to have my customizer from O'Reilly
09:27help me out and customize my face
09:30so I can disguise my voice.
09:32Those O'Reilly guys can do anything.
09:34Just look at the skill now
09:35going into this facial improvement.
09:37Yeah, it's much better.
09:38Ah, yes.
09:38Now he's ready to call David
09:40as a lawman who's not so hot on the case.
09:43My name is Detective Joel McHale,
09:45and I'm calling about your stolen GTO.
09:49Yeah.
09:51When was the last time that you saw the vehicle?
09:53I took off the class early in the morning,
09:56and when I got back, it was gone,
09:57and I heard the bad news when I got in the car
10:00when I got picked up.
10:01Wow, it sounds like someone might have been
10:02watching the house or casing the location
10:05in hopes to steal this car.
10:08Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
10:10Premeditated or something.
10:11I don't know.
10:12Premeditated, right.
10:13The approximate value of the car?
10:16I'm priceless, man.
10:18I can't really, whether it's working or not, man.
10:21You say it didn't have a front end on it.
10:23No, it's just no hood, no front end, basically.
10:28How did they drive the car away?
10:31You got me.
10:32I have no idea.
10:34As you know, I mean, many, many, many vehicles
10:36are stolen every day.
10:38We try to concentrate on the ones that are driving,
10:42first of all.
10:43It's a classic car.
10:47You can tell what it is from a distance.
10:49Okay.
10:50I don't know if I'd be able to tell from a distance,
10:52but if it didn't have a front end on it,
10:53I could pick it out.
10:54I will be in touch with you
10:56at the beginning of next week.
11:00All right.
11:00Okay.
11:01Okay, David.
11:02All right, man.
11:03Goodbye.
11:04David surely wants someone with more enthusiasm
11:06looking for his car.
11:08Poor guy.
11:08He's really bummed out.
11:09I can only imagine how bummed he'd be
11:11if the entire car was there.
11:12If it actually had a motor and a front clip on it,
11:16he'd be really bummed out.
11:17Good luck on your finals, man.
11:20It's time to learn all about ideation.
11:23The rough sketch is just what I call an ideation sketch.
11:26It's the idea of what we're going to do to the car.
11:28We can get started, get the build going.
11:30When I do the final rendering,
11:31it's more of a refined version of the same thing.
11:34And refined is the word for the info we got
11:36from our insider, Richard.
11:37Chips rarely receives such a specific request
11:40for the body color,
11:41and it's easy to see that he likes the choice.
11:43What I really like about this color,
11:45that amethyst pearl,
11:47when you pull it out in the sun,
11:48that car is literally going to go from a black
11:51to a blue on the top surface.
11:52It'll look like it's a two-tone color.
11:54It's going to be a great looking car outside.
11:56Well, knowing Chip and the A-Team,
11:58it's going to be a great looking car inside as well,
12:01with a whole new stance,
12:02a handcrafted interior from Bill Dunn,
12:04and a stunning set of wheels designed by Foose himself.
12:10All right, David, we have your car.
12:12And now we know what it's going to look like.
12:15The reborn frame from Memory Lane returns.
12:18We just got the frame back from Gemtech.
12:20We're going to be installing the HotSkiss suspension.
12:22This is our total vehicle system.
12:24Basically, the suspension,
12:26it's going to make it a G machine.
12:28You're going to be able to handle the corners
12:29and get up to the good speeds.
12:31It's all great gear,
12:32but it's all got to come together
12:33to make the car both dependable and comfortable.
12:36There's just a few short days
12:37to convince all these pieces
12:39that they were made for each other back in 69.
12:41Work goes on, and before we know it,
12:43it's Foose time.
12:45All right, it's 4 o'clock in the morning,
12:46day 3 officially now,
12:47but we're going to hit it.
12:49We'll come back about 9 a.m.
12:50We're going to get the doors back here,
12:52fit the doors of the body,
12:53we'll fit the fenders,
12:54and we'll get the hood fit,
12:55and hopefully by tomorrow afternoon,
12:57we're at the paint shop.
12:58Hopefully.
12:58The man said hopefully on this third day.
13:01All right, it's 10 a.m., day 3.
13:03Jake's finishing up some body work.
13:04We're going to fit the hood and the doors today.
13:06That might be a little tricky
13:08since this is a whole new front end.
13:09We're looking really good.
13:11We're looking really good,
13:12but what about the hood?
13:15It fits about as good as any other panel right now.
13:17We've got to square everything up,
13:19and when you bolt them on,
13:20they don't just slide into place.
13:21There's a lot of adjustments
13:23that we've done with the hinges,
13:25the fenders, the hood,
13:25everything to make everything square.
13:27We're good.
13:28We keep taking it off, putting it on,
13:30taking it off, putting it on,
13:31until we get the gap right.
13:32It's a hassle,
13:33but they soon think they're mere inches away.
13:35We're going to open up the holes a little bit,
13:37smooth the hood back.
13:39Looks like we'll have it nailed.
13:41Uh, Sean, don't be so sure.
13:44One of the first things people notice
13:45on a custom car are the wheels,
13:47but a lot of people don't really understand
13:49how involved the wheel-making process is.
13:52We're here at MHT in Orange County.
13:54This is Al.
13:55Right here we have step one.
13:56This is a solid chunk of billet aluminum.
13:58That's right.
13:59This is the piece in which everything starts.
14:02This will now go into a milling machine.
14:04And in that machine,
14:05it'll be made ready
14:06for the continuation of its rolling journey.
14:09So step one is complete.
14:11What happens next?
14:12Well, next,
14:13the center meets up with the CNC machine,
14:15where I watch Mike from MHT
14:16put it through the paces,
14:18now on its way to becoming
14:19a cool and custom wheel.
14:21Well, David,
14:22it's perfection in just a short amount of time.
14:24Hope you like it.
14:25He'll like it after the next stage.
14:28We're here at Intro Wheels,
14:29and we're about to sink the center
14:31into the hoop.
14:32How do you do that?
14:33On this machine right here,
14:34it's going to heat up the hoops,
14:35it spins around nice and fast,
14:36it's going to expand,
14:37the center goes down into it,
14:39and then as it cools,
14:41it grips around the center.
14:42You got yourself a custom wheel.
14:44That's one.
14:45Well, there you go.
14:45We're going to do that three more times,
14:47we're going to have a great set of wheels
14:48to put on David's studio.
14:49A great set of wheels is right.
14:52Meanwhile,
14:52back over at the original Parts Group garage,
14:55Chip and Shane work hard
14:56on the custom front fascia.
14:57It's a piece that doesn't get finished
14:59until early evening.
15:015 o'clock, PM, day three,
15:03Shane's got the front lower fascia
15:04all finished up,
15:05where now it's nice and smooth.
15:07He's gotten rid of those two holes,
15:08made it one nice clean line.
15:10It's going to actually reduce
15:11the size of that front fascia.
15:13It's going to look smaller
15:14with that opening all the way underneath.
15:15That's coming along nicely,
15:17but there's still trouble with the hood.
15:19It's a part that clearly needs
15:20the persuasive touch
15:21of the one and only Foose.
15:22A man who soon has the piece
15:24going along with the program.
15:25Just in time for an update from Sean.
15:28Looks like we're a couple hours
15:29away from primer.
15:31Still got some body work
15:31to do here on the front
15:32and on the fender.
15:34So hopefully sometime late tonight,
15:36maybe early tomorrow morning,
15:37we'll roll it over to ACS,
15:38get in the paint booth,
15:39get it all primed up.
15:43Day four,
15:44looks like the A-team's
15:45got this thing buttoned up.
15:46Let's get it over to ACS
15:47and put some paint on the GTO.
15:49Let's go, guys.
15:50Yeah, the Pontiac is on the move,
15:52but that's not going to stop
15:53guys like Tony from doing
15:54what still needs to be done.
15:56Look at this guy.
15:58Car's getting up on the trailer.
15:59Tony's still sanding away.
16:01That's what I call dedicated.
16:03Well, around here,
16:03it's called dedicated.
16:05Someplace else,
16:05you might say Tony
16:06should be medicated,
16:07but that's the story
16:08of an overhaul and build.
16:09Craftsmen going crazy
16:10just to get these rides
16:11done on time.
16:12And once it makes its way
16:13over to ACS,
16:15Sean's here waiting
16:15for both Tony
16:16and David's GTO.
16:19Car's just now arriving here,
16:20Auto Collision Solutions.
16:22Tony's still working
16:23on that rear panel.
16:24Got a little bit of work
16:24to do on the front panel.
16:25We're going to get it
16:25in the booth,
16:26get it in primer,
16:27get some color on the jams
16:28back together
16:28so we can get this thing
16:29painted tomorrow.
16:32So, J&G Customs,
16:33just how do you get
16:34those really crazy shapes
16:35and enclosures?
16:37If you're wondering
16:37how we get these really
16:38crazy shapes and enclosures,
16:40it's actually quite simple.
16:41We'll take a wooden frame,
16:43skeleton,
16:43and we'll stretch
16:45trunk line or carpet
16:46across it.
16:48We'll staple
16:48everything together,
16:50you know,
16:50stretch all the stuff together,
16:52get all the contour.
16:53We'll end up with something
16:54along the lines of this
16:55after we add
16:56fiberglass resin to it.
16:58We'll grind this resin down
16:59and fill everything up
17:00with body filler,
17:01shoot it over to paint,
17:02and be ready to go.
17:03But what about the speakers
17:04going into this ride?
17:06The Boston SL95 6x9s
17:08will be bringing in
17:09the sound from the back end.
17:11The speaker will actually
17:12mount to the wood,
17:14we'll put body filler in
17:15so it'll smooth it out,
17:17look uniform.
17:18We have a vent in the center
17:19bringing in all the base
17:20from the trunk.
17:21It lets it vent right
17:22into the car
17:22so you can feel it
17:23when you're driving.
17:24We'll be trimming that out
17:25with expanded metal,
17:27and it'll look killer
17:29when you're done, Dave.
17:30All right,
17:30it's 5 o'clock,
17:31day 4.
17:31We're going to go ahead
17:32and work for a couple more
17:32hours,
17:33get some stuff done.
17:34By the time the car
17:34comes back from paint,
17:35we're ready for reassembly,
17:36and Dave,
17:37you'll be rocking.
17:38Rocking!
17:38And now we're rolling
17:39over to Chip
17:40and our insider, Richard.
17:42You haven't seen it
17:43with the whole front end on it,
17:43have you?
17:44I personally haven't.
17:45There we go,
17:46we're doing all the surfacing work,
17:47we'll get primered tonight,
17:48tomorrow we'll be painting.
17:50Wow.
17:50And then we're also going to
17:51paint the rear bumper.
17:52All for a guy who has become
17:58a true inspiration
17:59to his family,
18:00his friends,
18:01and everyone who meets him.
18:02They say good things happen
18:04to good people,
18:05and he deserves it.
18:08Despite everything
18:09that's happened to him
18:09of late,
18:10he continues to be
18:12an inspiration
18:12to a lot of the people
18:14he meets,
18:14and specifically me.
18:16I mean,
18:16I'm his older brother,
18:17but he's my role model,
18:20he's my hero.
18:21It's day four right now,
18:22so just a couple more days
18:23till D-Day,
18:24and David and the family,
18:25everybody's going to be happy.
18:26Definitely.
18:27Thanks, Richard.
18:28Later,
18:28it all finally fits.
18:30All right,
18:30it's 10, 15 p.m.,
18:31day four.
18:32Finally got the front end
18:33fitted the way we like it.
18:34We're going to go ahead
18:34and pull it off,
18:35get the car in the booth,
18:36put some primer on it,
18:37and hopefully by day five,
18:39we'll have some paint
18:40on this thing.
18:40It's taken a good long time
18:42to make the car
18:43both rust-free
18:43and cooperative
18:44regarding all the new
18:45body pieces
18:46from Original Parts Group.
18:48Sean now mans his set a gun
18:49as he primes it all up,
18:50getting David's GTO
18:51ready for its next
18:52colorful chapter.
18:546 a.m., day five,
18:55got the car all primed up.
18:56We're going to let it dry
18:57for a few hours,
18:58come back in the morning
18:58and get it ready
18:59for some color.
19:04We're here at Auto Collision
19:05Solutions in Huntington Beach.
19:06The GTO is inside,
19:07getting ready to be put
19:08in the paint booth.
19:09That's going to happen
19:09sometime tonight, probably.
19:11Get shot color,
19:12clear, bake it,
19:13get it back over
19:13to Original Parts Group,
19:14put it back together.
19:15But it can't go back
19:16together without this place.
19:18I'm here at Bill Dunn
19:19one-stop shop,
19:20and Junior's going to show
19:21us the process that's going
19:22into making David's interior.
19:23So what's going on right here?
19:24Well, this is the dash.
19:26This is the old vinyl
19:26that used to be on top
19:27of the dash.
19:28No more.
19:28Yeah, get rid of it.
19:30We got new vinyl
19:31that Keystone supplied
19:32for a new look on the dash.
19:35So he's going to redo this?
19:36Yeah, he's got to get
19:37into all the little details.
19:39He'll rewrap it
19:39and make it look beautiful again.
19:41But I want to show you
19:41the seats.
19:42Oh.
19:42They're Cobra seats
19:43from Subi Sports.
19:44This is the old seat cover
19:46to the Cobra seats
19:47we're going to use
19:48in this car.
19:49Of course,
19:49Keystone supplied
19:50the leather again.
19:51Nice.
19:53All right, David,
19:53you're going to have
19:54some cool, awesome seats.
19:55Hope you like it.
19:56He'll like it better
19:57than he likes
19:58this next phone prank
19:59where I rattle his cage.
20:00Well, apparently,
20:01David doesn't think
20:01that the Overhawn Police Department
20:03is doing a good enough job
20:04investigating his case.
20:05He left us a couple messages
20:06telling us we were slacking,
20:07basically,
20:08so I'm going to call him back again
20:09as Detective McHale.
20:11Now, to keep the consistency,
20:13Scott here to tape me up again.
20:15Scott, how'd that have been?
20:16Scott, the nose.
20:18The nose.
20:18Hit the nose.
20:19Yeah, get through his nostrils.
20:21Hey, easy.
20:22Okay, Chris,
20:22you are now looking good.
20:24Hello?
20:25Yes, may I speak
20:26to David, please?
20:28Yeah, this is David.
20:29David, hi,
20:29it's Detective McHale
20:30calling you.
20:32Hey, what's going on?
20:33I got your several messages
20:35that you left me.
20:36Yeah, man,
20:37I just want to know
20:38what the situation is.
20:39I thought I'd explain it
20:41to you when you spoke
20:41on the phone before
20:42that I am considering
20:44this a low-quality case
20:45because of the value
20:46of your car.
20:47I have many, many, many,
20:48many vehicles
20:49that get stolen.
20:51I know it's worth more
20:53than what I told you.
20:54Okay.
20:54Well, I mean, regardless,
20:55if it doesn't have a motor
20:56and a front clip on it,
20:57it's not going to be going
20:58anywhere very soon.
20:59Certainly not to Japan.
21:01You told me
21:02that you were in a wheelchair
21:04and I'm not sure
21:07of your motivation
21:08in telling me that,
21:09but, you know,
21:10you got me.
21:11Yeah, the wheelchair
21:11has nothing to do with it.
21:12I'm just saying in general,
21:14whether I was walking
21:14or not,
21:15it's just, like I said,
21:17I'm not at the waiting game,
21:18but, you know,
21:18I'm hoping for good news, man.
21:20Not knowing is the worst part,
21:22David.
21:23That's what's frustrating.
21:24So, well, hopefully,
21:25you know,
21:26we'll be able to find it
21:27for you
21:27and get you back
21:28to scroll down.
21:29Yeah.
21:30All right, man.
21:30Okay.
21:31All right, all right,
21:32all right, detective.
21:32You have a nice day.
21:33All right, you too, man.
21:34Bye.
21:35Oh, my, detective.
21:37You know, I love it
21:38when they call me detective.
21:39It's just,
21:40they might as well just say,
21:41I'm buying everything
21:42that you're assembling.
21:43It's time to move it.
21:4510 o'clock a.m.,
21:46day six.
21:47Sean has sprayed
21:47the silver on the car.
21:49Now I'm laying out
21:49the graphic that I want on it.
21:51Once we get that laid out,
21:52we can put the rest
21:52of the colors on it,
21:53get the thing cleared,
21:54back over to the original
21:55parts group for assembly.
21:56That's a lot to do.
21:58And it's all guided
21:59by a sketch.
22:00A sketch made days ago.
22:02Well, now it's moved
22:04from the sketch pad
22:05to the paint booth.
22:07And it's happening
22:08with help from Sean.
22:09Sean got the silver
22:10on last night.
22:11Now we're taping
22:12off the red stripe.
22:13When that's all finished,
22:14we'll get the amethyst pearl on.
22:16It's a finish
22:17that will change in light.
22:18Most of this paint
22:19is all black toner,
22:21and the color of the purple
22:22actually comes out of pearls
22:23that are in the black.
22:24You don't see the pearls
22:25without a lot of light.
22:26So what this car is going to do
22:27out in the sun is the top of it,
22:29and all the curves
22:30are really going to be highlighted
22:31by the pearl,
22:32and it's going to come alive.
22:33At nighttime,
22:34or when the car's in the shade,
22:35it's going to look like it's black.
22:36Well, it's a car
22:37that started its long life
22:39just as the 70s
22:40were about to begin.
22:41So it's more than fitting
22:42for it to become something
22:43of its own moon ring,
22:44changing colors
22:45with every new hour of the day.
22:48It'll have that wildly
22:49shifting finish,
22:50and a graphic as well.
22:52A Foose design creation
22:53sporting silver and red stripes
22:55along the side of the ride.
22:57And it came together
22:58with RM, SATA, ACS, and Sean.
23:009 o'clock p.m., day 6.
23:02Car's all clear, dry.
23:03We're going to put it on the flatbed,
23:04get it back to original parts group.
23:06Let's get the reassembly started
23:07so we can get this back to David.
23:08Even inside here,
23:09the finish goes from black
23:10to purple
23:11to everything in between.
23:12And now that it's returning
23:13to the shop,
23:14Craig will explain
23:15our immediate future.
23:17All right, it's 10 p.m., day 6.
23:18Car's coming back from paint.
23:19We're going to go ahead
23:20and get it inside,
23:20put the engine in,
23:21do a bunch of little things tonight,
23:23hit it hard in the morning.
23:24Well, actually,
23:25we're going to hit it hard right now
23:26as the car's brought in
23:27and the team knows
23:28that day 7 is just around the corner.
23:30And that means all hands on deck.
23:32Time to make time
23:33for David's GTO.
23:35Round and round we go,
23:36trying to see how much work
23:38the rest of this project will take.
23:39The answer, a lot,
23:41with its rebuilt engine by L&R
23:43and Dyna-Mac going in
23:44to keep the sounds cool.
23:46It's also going to help
23:47with the temperature of the interior,
23:48and that's going to be key
23:50now that air conditioning
23:51is going into this GTO,
23:52all hooked up and happening
23:53after a few installations
23:55by Sherry and the gang.
23:57That's it.
23:58This car is hot and cold.
24:00This car is also getting
24:01more new gear by the second
24:02as another major part
24:03is now flying in.
24:05Or maybe it's more appropriate
24:06to say that this piece
24:07is dashing in.
24:08Yeah, the Bill Dunn guy's done good.
24:11And now it's time to see
24:12what's up against
24:12the new California Performance
24:14transmission,
24:15with Jorge filling us in
24:16on the rebuilt engine.
24:17All right, it's 4 a.m. day 7.
24:20We just got the motor completed
24:21to get dropped in.
24:23We have all the
24:24March pulley serpentine system,
24:25the transmission hooked up,
24:27and all the wiring done.
24:28So now that we've got
24:29everything done on the stand,
24:30we're ready to drop it in.
24:31It's dropping in all right!
24:32A team effort combining
24:33the forces of Original Parts Group,
24:35Royal Purple,
24:36and our gearheads from O'Reilly.
24:38As this engine goes in,
24:39David is a few hours away
24:41from waking up
24:41and finishing his school finals.
24:43That's one of the reasons
24:44we haven't been pranking our mark
24:45in a face-to-face fashion,
24:47making sure he's not hassled
24:48as he sets out
24:49to get a good batch of grades.
24:51It's about 4.15 in the morning
24:52on day 7.
24:54We've got the motor in,
24:55we've got the transmission in,
24:56we've got the gas in,
24:58most of the wiring.
25:00So all we've got to do
25:01is button some of that stuff up.
25:02We should all go home
25:03and get some sleep.
25:04He's right about that,
25:06but not too much sleep, guys.
25:08Day 7 is already here.
25:09Inside our visit from Richard.
25:14It's Richard's first peek
25:16at the brand-new paint job.
25:17What do you think?
25:19Wow.
25:21It's colored and...
25:22And a front end.
25:23Exactly.
25:24An engine and everything.
25:25With the changes all quite drastic,
25:27this calls for a much closer look.
25:30Looks a lot different
25:31since you've seen it
25:31at the body shop, huh?
25:32Oh, yeah.
25:34A few more engine parts
25:35and stuff, too, right?
25:35Just a few.
25:37And what do you think of the color?
25:38I mean, right now,
25:39they're color sanding the car.
25:41Yeah, this fender here.
25:41But this is...
25:43Yeah.
25:44Oh, it's beautiful.
25:45I had always heard him
25:46describe it as, you know,
25:47just...
25:48And it's...
25:48You know, with that...
25:49It kind of has like a...
25:50It changes just...
25:51Yeah, like a burgundy...
25:53Burgundy hue to it.
25:55I mean, right now,
25:55it looks kind of black,
25:56but in the light,
25:57it's going to have
25:57kind of a burgundy tinge to it.
26:00The stripe.
26:02AJ, go ahead.
26:03Ask him.
26:04So how is David
26:05feeling right now?
26:06Well, I think he's gotten
26:08to the point where
26:08he's kind of losing all hope.
26:11I think, you know,
26:12some of the prank phone calls
26:14that you guys have played on him,
26:15I think, have made him,
26:17you know, lose patience.
26:20He's just restless,
26:21wishing that there was more
26:22he could do, you know,
26:23calling auto body shops
26:25or even, like, tow truck companies.
26:26Yeah, because, David,
26:28your car's not the only car
26:29that was stolen here.
26:31So, you know,
26:32the police have a long list of cars
26:34they've got to take care of.
26:34So he's losing patience,
26:36he's losing hope,
26:37and he thinks his car is gone.
26:39Yeah, I don't think he
26:40envisions it coming back
26:42in a week, that's for sure.
26:45Hang in there, David,
26:46because in one more day,
26:47you're getting your dream car back.
26:501 p.m., day 7,
26:51we're here with Bob
26:52from Driving Systems.
26:53He's going to be in charge
26:53of installing the Manox system
26:55into David's GTO.
26:57Why don't you tell Wheels
26:58and Richard and I
26:58a little bit about the system?
26:59This is basically
27:01a four-mounted driving hand control
27:03and push for brake,
27:06full for gas.
27:07It's got a bunch of toggle switches
27:09here on the top.
27:10It's all simple,
27:11out of the way,
27:12and it'll look cool.
27:13You won't lose the function
27:14of steering,
27:15hand control,
27:16you know, down here.
27:17And it's just a cool hand control.
27:20There you go, David,
27:21top of the line system
27:22for your top of the line
27:23Fuchs Design GTO.
27:25Yeah, but first,
27:26this car's got to do
27:27what it hasn't done in a while,
27:28run.
27:29There's a motor in the car now,
27:30but there wasn't one
27:31when we took it from David.
27:32So we got a 400 block,
27:34we rebuilt it,
27:35along with some great components
27:36that were supplied
27:36by O'Reilly Auto Parts.
27:38Now, what exactly
27:38did you guys hook us up with?
27:40We got L-O-Brock aluminum heads,
27:42camshaft, and intake.
27:44We also have Doug's headers,
27:46March pulley system,
27:47Melodon aluminum water pump,
27:49along with a lot of other stuff
27:49inside the engine,
27:50ARP bolts,
27:52L-O-Brock camshaft,
27:53Speed Pro pistons.
27:54So O'Reilly Auto Parts
27:55coming through for us huge again,
27:56and coming through even huger
27:58for you, David.
27:58Enjoy those 400 cubic engines,
28:00baby.
28:01Let's start it.
28:02We're just about ready
28:03to start our 400 here,
28:04but first we've got to
28:05fill the engine with oil.
28:07Today we're going to be using
28:07Royal Purple's 10W30.
28:09The high film strength
28:10and high oxidation stability
28:11is going to help this engine
28:12last a long time.
28:13Okay, our experts tell us
28:15this engine has been rebuilt
28:16to perfection,
28:17but the true test comes now.
28:20Yeah.
28:30We have ignition.
28:31And we also have D-Day
28:33already here right before us.
28:34All right, it's 2.30 a.m. D-Day.
28:36Getting the car on the lift.
28:37Richard from Magniflo
28:38will be here in a couple hours.
28:39He's going to do the exhaust.
28:41Got a few things to tie up on it,
28:43finish the interior.
28:43We're ready to go.
28:45Just in time,
28:46because our final prank
28:47is also ready to go.
28:49D-Day as in David's day.
28:51Hey, David, it's D-Day.
28:52We're about six hours away
28:53and we're bringing Lee back.
28:54Chris and Lee and I
28:55are going to prank you
28:56one last time
28:57before you get your GTO.
28:58Sean's finishing up
28:59the polish work.
28:59Richard's just about finished
29:00putting all the Magniflo exhaust in.
29:02We've got the wheels and tires
29:03getting mounted right now.
29:04We'll bring those back.
29:05We're going to put the seats in,
29:06get the bumpers on,
29:08hook up those hand controls,
29:09and it's all yours.
29:10David, not only is it
29:12going to be all yours,
29:12you're going to be surrounded
29:14by people who are going to
29:15wish it was all theirs.
29:16That's going to be the case
29:17here in the shop
29:18and on the street
29:19when you're riding
29:19in your remade GOAT.
29:21The build-down interior
29:22is going in quick
29:23and quickly looking good.
29:25And as the inside
29:25comes together,
29:27in-roll boost wheels
29:28and BF Goodrich tires,
29:29climbing aboard with style.
29:31Add a few lug nuts
29:32and we are in business.
29:34Meanwhile,
29:34in yonder trunk space,
29:36J&G Customs
29:37and Boston Acoustics
29:38are on the verge
29:39of making some
29:39super sweet music together.
29:41This is going to be big sound
29:42for one big ride,
29:44but R-Mart can't have it
29:45until we give him
29:45our colossal final prank.
29:47About to get underway
29:48as all these busy people
29:49stay busy
29:50so they can make
29:51David's car complete.
29:54Okay, it's D-Day final prank.
29:56Time before we give
29:57David's GTO back.
29:58Our friend Lee is here
29:59once again playing a detective.
30:00I will be playing
30:01the smarmy OPG employee,
30:03Jake,
30:04the one who stole his car.
30:05He's about to call David,
30:06have him get down here to OPG
30:08and we'll get this final prank on.
30:10Here we go.
30:11David, hi,
30:12it's Detective McHale
30:13calling you again.
30:15Hey, what's going on?
30:16Good.
30:16Listen, I think
30:17I might have
30:18some good notes for you.
30:19We might have found your car.
30:21My detective,
30:21who's down in Orange County,
30:23saw a flyer for your car
30:27at a car parts shop
30:29and I need you,
30:30can you get on the road right now?
30:32He's kind of strapped for time.
30:33He's down there right now.
30:34I need you to meet him down there.
30:35And my detective,
30:37his name is Detective Leonard,
30:38L-E-N-A-R-D.
30:42The two of you
30:43will go over
30:43to the car parts shop together.
30:47Detective Leonard, right?
30:48Correct.
30:49He's a tall, white guy,
30:51pretty strapping fellow.
30:53Oh my, Detective McHale.
30:55All right, cool.
30:56Gotcha.
30:56There you go.
30:57It's on.
30:57David's on his way down,
30:59handed it off to Lee.
31:00I'm going to head back
31:01over to Original Parts Group
31:02and do my thing.
31:03Back at the shop with AJ.
31:05It's 3.15 p.m. on D-Day.
31:07The guys are working hard
31:08and they're working fast
31:09because this car's
31:10got to go back to David today.
31:11You know,
31:12that fine young lady
31:13does have a very good point.
31:14These guys got to get cracking
31:16since we already have
31:17the final prank in gear
31:18and in motion.
31:19And even though we felt
31:20somewhat ahead of the build
31:21a few short hours ago,
31:22it always comes down
31:24to the wire,
31:24with the final details
31:25falling into that category
31:27of being the very best work
31:28this team has to offer.
31:30It's all happening
31:31and it's all going on the car.
31:32Every part and appliance.
31:34For every worker here,
31:35their focus is complete.
31:36And when you ask them
31:37what's going on,
31:38they'll tell you
31:38exactly what's going on.
31:40What's going on right now
31:42is the bumper.
31:43Ask a bumper guy question,
31:44you'll get an answer
31:45involving bumpers.
31:46Anywho,
31:47it is all coming together
31:48just in time
31:49for you, David.
31:51David was told
31:54if he can pay the crook
31:55and then ID his stolen ride,
31:57we have caught ourselves
31:58one conniving car thief.
32:01We've been trying
32:01to get these guys
32:02for a while.
32:03It's a little auto,
32:04like an auto body shop,
32:05kind of a parts place
32:06around the corner.
32:07They've got it for sale
32:08for about 500 bucks
32:09from what our other
32:09detective told us.
32:10So what we're going to do
32:11is I'm going to give you
32:12the money.
32:12You have to actually
32:13tell this person
32:14that you want to buy
32:15the car from them.
32:16I'm going to be right
32:16there with you.
32:17Cool?
32:18Yes.
32:18All right.
32:20Just how cool
32:21is Original Parts Group?
32:22Well, they're letting us
32:23take their impeccable reputation
32:24and even for a moment,
32:26allowing us to play
32:27like they'd ever hire
32:28a shady operator.
32:29At the counter,
32:30they're even giving us
32:31their top man, Tony,
32:32for the prank.
32:33Yeah, OPG is family
32:35when it comes to overhauling.
32:36How you guys doing?
32:38Good.
32:38Is there Jake?
32:40Jake around?
32:41Yeah, can I ask why?
32:42What's my back?
32:43Yeah, we're looking
32:44into buying the GTO.
32:45Oh, okay.
32:46Let me go get him real quick.
32:48Okay, the show's
32:49really on now.
32:51You're good.
32:53What's up?
32:56Jake, I think
32:57a buddy of mine
32:58is interested
32:59in your car, I think.
33:00Oh, right on.
33:01Yeah, man.
33:02Yeah, I was wondering,
33:03it's still for sale, right?
33:04Yeah.
33:05How many?
33:06500 bucks?
33:06500, yeah.
33:08The only thing is
33:08I don't have the title
33:09because it was a salvage.
33:11Oh, it wasn't?
33:12Yeah.
33:13Yeah, man.
33:13If you're really still
33:14willing to sell it.
33:14Yeah, man.
33:15Definitely, yeah.
33:19It's easy enough, right?
33:20I just sold the GTO.
33:22Oh, that's cool.
33:22Yeah, cool, man.
33:25Two, three.
33:27Cool, man, yeah.
33:28It doesn't have a motor
33:29or anything like that either,
33:31but, you know,
33:32I'll get you the keys and stuff.
33:34So you got it here?
33:36Huh?
33:36You got it here?
33:37Yeah, it's in the back.
33:37Freeze!
33:38Go to the ground!
33:38Get down to the ground!
33:39Right there!
33:40Right there!
33:40Hands behind your head!
33:41Hands behind your head!
33:42Here, hold this.
33:43Here, Cody, hold this.
33:44Hold this.
33:47Get the rifle made silent.
33:49What's going on, man?
33:50You stole the guy's car, man.
33:51Hey, what are you talking about?
33:52Give me your ammo.
33:54Dude!
33:54Come on, come on, come on, man!
33:56I didn't do anything, man.
33:58When Chip comes out as Jake's roommate,
34:00David recognizes Foose.
34:02Stand up.
34:03Why do you have a gun?
34:04Whoa!
34:05Did you know he stole a car?
34:06Why do you have a gun?
34:07What are you doing?
34:09What's so funny?
34:12Congratulations, David.
34:13Thanks, man.
34:14You're on overhauling.
34:15Thanks, man.
34:16Good work.
34:17Good work, man.
34:18Good work.
34:18I saw you, man.
34:21David's overhauling party has officially begun.
34:25All right, so David's just been overhauled.
34:26He's found out now.
34:27The cat's out of the bag.
34:29He recognized Chip when he came out.
34:30How are you feeling right now?
34:32Nervous, man.
34:33Still nervous.
34:34Feeling good, though, man.
34:35Cool.
34:35I think you're going to be pretty happy when you see it.
34:37We're certainly happy to have done it for you.
34:40You know, we've been feeling bad about pranking all week long,
34:42putting you through the ringer.
34:43I know that you had finals and stuff this week, too,
34:45so you've had a lot of stress going on.
34:47Well, it's all going to be better.
34:48I'm going to get you over to the original parts garage
34:50and give David his car back.
34:53Change his life for the better.
34:54All right, David, you ready for your life to change?
34:56Yeah.
34:57Go ahead, man.
35:02Wow.
35:04Yeah!
35:04It's the 1969 Pontiac GTO he has always dreamed of having,
35:09and as his family watches backstage,
35:12they know David is amazed.
35:14Incredible, man.
35:16It's awesome.
35:17That's for sure.
35:20I never pictured it like this.
35:23It was beautiful.
35:24The color, the wheels, the interior is impeccable.
35:28I could have never have done this.
35:30It is an incredible GTO.
35:32Wow.
35:33Congratulations.
35:34Thanks, man.
35:35Enjoy it.
35:37You deserve it.
35:40It's all yours.
35:43Thanks a lot, man.
35:45You're very welcome.
35:47I've been through so much stuff in the recent years, man.
35:53It's incredible.
35:56I can't.
35:57It's all right.
36:01Awesome.
36:01Built by an awesome team.
36:05It's a team that had L&R rebuilding an engine about to shift gears thanks to a California performance
36:10transmission, all surrounded by new stuff from O'Reilly and Original Parts Group.
36:15Together, they've totally reinvented a classic.
36:18Thanks to a crew that went the distance.
36:21Guys who left no stone unturned when it came to making this car the very best it can possibly
36:26be.
36:26Steve was here working with Mennox, making sure the ride was right and ready for David.
36:31And once we go back and peek beyond the deck lid, we'll see J&G Customs has done it again,
36:36packing it away under a color-shifting finish thanks to RM, SATA, and ACS.
36:41Of course, a muscle car is about muscle.
36:44Time to pop the hood and start that engine made mighty by L&R.
36:47David, meet the power.
36:53Words aren't necessary.
36:59Oh, man.
37:02Sounds like a beast.
37:04It's a beast made manageable by Bob, Jr., and the team responsible for the Mennox system.
37:09You're putting David both in the driver's seat and totally in control.
37:13Just like a stick shift, push forward for the brake, pull backwards for the gas.
37:18This is what makes me go, man.
37:20And you guys are giving me the drive, the independence, everything right here, man.
37:24Well, right here is where you want to be.
37:26Wrapped in a build-on interior featuring Cobra seats from Subie Sports,
37:30all leathered up by way of Keyston Brothers.
37:32Speaker-wise, it's Boston Acoustics, as J&G Customs arrives to show their stuff.
37:37They're right on time, ready to make some noise.
37:43Woo!
37:47Dang it.
37:49I think it's safe to say that this sound system is a hit with David,
37:52a former Mark who clearly likes his cars cool and his music cranking.
37:59Of course, David, you know that this show is all about doing something cool for someone who's cool.
38:04We've got to rely on people like our insiders.
38:07Insiders like his big brother, Richard.
38:09Got you.
38:14It's a family that's been through a lot in these last few years,
38:17but right now, David's guessing that there's one hopeful thought on Richard's mind.
38:21It's beautiful, man.
38:23I'll let you drive it.
38:29Now that's brotherly love,
38:31with Richard also benefiting from Bear Brakes, Magnaflow,
38:34and Hotchkiss Suspension, all going on David's list.
38:38Thank you all.
38:40Hand controls, the paint,
38:42the brakes, everything.
38:44I couldn't have asked for anything else.
38:48I never thought it would be this beautiful.
38:52This is always something I always held close to my heart, man.
38:55And my heart is what I give to you, man.
39:00I give you all my peace of my heart,
39:02because it really means a lot to me.
39:04I never thought it would get accomplished.
39:05I always had it.
39:06I had a goal that I'd accomplish it.
39:09I'd finish it one day.
39:10I never thought I'd do it this close.
39:12His parents are grateful as well.
39:35Thanks, God, to all and everybody to do something for you.
39:45A lot of nice people in the world, like everybody around here, and they do everything for you.
40:00What a week is exactly right. It started with a car that was missing a few pieces, now it's complete.
40:18And now that he has his entire dream car, we hope David feels like telling us what the last seven days has been all about.
40:30My name's David and I've just been overhauled.
40:41David didn't know till D-Day, so you might be the one who doesn't know right now.
40:45That just might be the way it goes down next time on Overhauling.
40:49It's awesome compared to how it was, just no front end with the transmission dangling and the axle, everything, you know.
40:57Everything was just falling apart and it was a fix-me-up and I knew one day I'd fix it up, but I didn't think someone, you know, I didn't think it'd get done so quick, man.
41:09And so impeccable. It's beautiful, man. I couldn't have asked for anything better. It's just beautiful right now.
41:39It's beautiful.
41:42How about that?
41:43I don't know.
41:45I don't know.
41:47I don't know, but it's beautiful.
41:51whatever, I don't know.
41:53You just can't remember the idea.
41:55You don't know what to do, man.
41:57I don't know if you're on the way.
42:00I'm going to go to the back now.
42:02I can never pretend to be like this.
