00:00All right, Overhauling viewers, listen up.
00:09That is Chris Jacobs.
00:10That is AJ.
00:11And that is automotive designer Chip Foose.
00:14On today's Overhauling, Marine Sergeant Alonzo is our market.
00:17He's the owner of a 1970 Chevy truck that'll be made outstanding at Classic Industries.
00:22Alonzo's wife, Nicole, is also a Marine Sergeant, and she'll be our insider.
00:27Our two Sergeants are in for one amazing week.
00:29It's seven days that will feature Foose and the A-Team perfecting a pickup.
00:33It'll all happen here, where Alonzo gets tricked.
00:35While his truck gets tricked out.
00:37So fall in line with us as we confiscate a Chevy.
00:40With the goal of our mission, achieving a full and furious overhauling.
00:44Now move it. Move it, move it, move it, move it.
00:51I am gasoline.
00:54That's right.
00:55Marine Sergeant Alonzo is our mark.
01:15His wife, Nicole, will be acting as our insider.
01:19Alonzo's uncle, Forrest, will also play the inside.
01:22Yes, both Alonzo and Nicole are Marine Sergeants.
01:25And the powertrain in the truck we're taking means a great deal to our mark.
01:29Alonzo rebuilt the motor and the truck's tranny with his father,
01:32a hardworking dad who passed on a few years ago.
01:37The Target, Alonzo's 1970 Chevy truck.
01:41Locating it is now mission accomplished.
01:44Well, finding the truck is one thing.
01:47Driving away with it in broad daylight with witnesses around is another story.
01:51Our plan? Get to the ride and hide in the back until the coast is totally clear.
01:56And then we'll drive it to our hideout.
01:58That is, if we can actually make it to our Marines truck without being seen.
02:02We just got in the back of the truck.
02:04This has never been done here on overhauling.
02:06It's really dangerous. Hopefully we'll make it to the shop.
02:09But just when things are going good?
02:11Houston, we have a problem.
02:12Luckily, I'd recognize that snappy driving style anywhere.
02:23It's our insider, Forrest.
02:25How are we going to get to the closet?
02:28Hey, yeah, so when you get up there and take a left,
02:31and then a left in the parking lot,
02:33now we're just pulling up there.
02:34Whoa, that was a close one.
02:37Okay, all right.
02:38We were just fooling around.
02:39That was all set up.
02:40Of course, we have Nicole, our insider, Forrest, our accomplice.
02:43Welcome to overhauling, you guys.
02:45Why don't you tell us a little bit about the truck?
02:47The truck is my husband, Alonzo's.
02:49He purchased the truck about two years ago
02:51and took the engine and transmission out of his dad's truck.
02:56His dad passed away from cancer about six years ago.
02:59When his dad was sick, that truck kind of got neglected,
03:02so he took the engine and transmission out of that truck
03:04and placed it into this truck about two years ago,
03:06and he's been trying to tinker with it and fix it up.
03:09Now, Nicole, he's in Iraq right now,
03:10and he's coming back in a couple days.
03:12What do you think his reaction is going to be
03:13to find out his truck's been stolen
03:14when he comes back from Iraq?
03:16He is not going to be happy at all.
03:18So you guys ready for a week of craziness?
03:20Definitely.
03:21Oh, yeah.
03:21Well, it's all going to be worth it in the end,
03:23so that's what it's all about here on overhaul.
03:25We've got the truck here at Classic Industries.
03:26Let's get it inside and meet the A-team.
03:28And someone else wants to meet him.
03:30With two sergeants involved,
03:32prankster Lee Rearman has channeled his inner drill instructor.
03:35Today's mark is Alonzo.
03:39Alonzo is in the United States Marine Corps.
03:42He is a gunnery sergeant.
03:45Dear God in heaven, what is your name?
03:49Sir, Private A.J., sir.
03:51No, your name's not Private A.J.
03:53Your name is Private Smoldering
03:55because you are smoldering hot.
03:57Is that clear?
03:58Sir, yes, sir.
03:59Does anybody else have anything to add?
04:01Glad you could join us.
04:06Were we cutting into your social schedule, sir?
04:09Sir, I was late, sir.
04:11What is your name, son?
04:12Foose, sir.
04:13I hear that you like to draw, Foose.
04:15Is that true?
04:16Yes, sir.
04:17What do you like to draw?
04:19Whatever needs to be drawn.
04:21The only thing I can see you drawing
04:23is a bunch of garbage on the ground.
04:26From now on, your name is Private Graffiti.
04:30All right, quit talking to me and get to work.
04:33Move, move, move, move, move.
04:35Someone better tell Lee we already have a leader.
04:37He's Team Captain Chip Foose.
04:40Here's what we have to work with.
04:42Let's check back in with Lee.
05:07Toughest part of an overhaul and build
05:09is deconstruction.
05:10Bodies, body parts,
05:13all working all over each other.
05:15The horror.
05:16Well, as someone tries to find a sedative for Lee,
05:19the truck comes apart in no time flat.
05:22Yeah, it's a deconstruction worthy of a song.
05:25I love deconstruction, so do I.
05:29We're going to take off the trim pieces,
05:30saving what we have to.
05:32I've got new replacement stuff
05:33that we can take care of for the rest of it.
05:35So let's just get it apart
05:36and get it to Media Blaster.
05:37The truck looks like it's in great shape,
05:41which is a good song.
05:42I have a few ideas of things
05:43that I would love to do to the truck.
05:45But I need to talk to our insiders,
05:46find out what Alonzo's dream truck is,
05:48and then we're going to go back.
05:49Well, the insiders are here and ready.
05:52All right, Nicole, Forrest,
05:54what do you think?
05:55I'm amazed.
05:56There's nothing more.
05:57It's only been, like, a little while.
06:00Goodbye, carburetor.
06:0212.30, day one.
06:04The truck is almost completely deconstructed.
06:06Should be going to Media Blast
06:07in about an hour.
06:08Don't go bananas.
06:09We're about to peel out.
06:10Not before that special engine comes out.
06:13The plan is to keep the engine.
06:15My understanding is that
06:16Alonzo and his father built the motor,
06:18so we're going to take it out
06:18and take a look at it,
06:19see if it needs anything,
06:20because we don't know what all they replaced
06:21when they rebuilt it.
06:22Worst-case scenario,
06:23we may have to rebuild it.
06:24We won't know until we get it out of the truck
06:26and get it a little closer.
06:28All right, let's get the car off the Media Blast
06:30and see how ugly it really is.
06:32Sir, yes, sir,
06:33is what we say as the chassis goes to powder coating
06:36and the truck goes to blasting,
06:37along with a real comedian.
06:39I think I'll take a cab over to Media Blast.
06:42Get it?
06:45Oh, he's a card.
06:47And so is Foose, now meeting our insiders.
06:50So what can you tell me about Alonzo and his truck?
06:53Oh, he loves the trucks.
06:54Do you think he would mind
06:55if we put the 67 front end on it?
06:58No, not at all.
06:58Much better looking front end.
07:00Not at all.
07:00The most important part of the vehicle to him
07:02was the engine.
07:03Other than that,
07:04I think he'd be pretty much happy
07:05and appreciative of anything.
07:07What's his favorite color just in general?
07:09Blue.
07:10Blue?
07:10The original car, actually,
07:11they called it blue
07:12because of the fact that it was blue.
07:13He had wanted to paint the green truck
07:16either blue or black.
07:17Now, he's in the Marines.
07:18Yes.
07:18Would he bring any kind of Marine influence in there?
07:21Probably the best thing would be
07:22just the eagle-globe and anchor,
07:23just the symbol of the Marine Corps.
07:25Okay.
07:25He's been in 15 years,
07:26so it's a big part of our lives.
07:28Great.
07:28Is there anything you'd like to say to Alonzo?
07:30I love you.
07:30Can't wait till you get home.
07:31Well, thank you.
07:32Great.
07:33Appreciate it.
07:34And we hope we like what we'll discover
07:36now that the truck cab is back from blasting.
07:38Well, we got the car back for a meteor resurfacing.
07:40It's not bad.
07:41I mean, it's rotted in the normal places right here
07:43with the lower rockers,
07:45the cab corners,
07:46also up in here.
07:47So we're going to have to repair all that.
07:49It's nothing, nothing different.
07:50That's where these rot at.
07:52So we'll fix those areas,
07:53do a little bit of custom to it,
07:55get it over to fix.
07:56So the metal work begins.
07:58And for some,
07:58it's a night of replacing panels
08:00and grinding the body down.
08:01For others,
08:02it's all about suspension,
08:04because the newly powder-coated chassis
08:05has returned,
08:06ready to be worked on.
08:0711 p.m.
08:10Can you believe it?
08:11A powder-coated chassis,
08:12ready to bolt on
08:13all the Early Classic suspension.
08:15I say let's do it,
08:17and I guess that gets matters into gear,
08:19as Stan and the pros from Early Classic
08:21work that suspension
08:22and install it onto the chassis.
08:24It's installation
08:26that's going to grab this Chevy truck
08:27and take the ride to an all-new low.
08:31Chip likes them low,
08:32so we went ahead and went with the 4.6 drop.
08:34Gives us plenty of travel,
08:36keeps it low to the ground.
08:38We'll be able to tuck
08:39some big tires and wheels
08:40under the back.
08:41Look sharp.
08:45It's the morning of day two.
08:47It's noisy as hell in here.
08:49Me and Stan are finishing up
08:50the front suspension.
08:51Everybody else is finishing up
08:52the body work.
08:53We're going to try
08:53and get this thing off the paint.
08:56In order to complete
08:57this custom touch
08:58that Chip wants
08:59of sinking these lights in
09:01behind from the backside
09:02of the fender,
09:03I've shaved the old hole
09:05and we're moving it down
09:07to here where Chip wants it.
09:09I've made this template.
09:11What I'm going to do
09:11is set this against here
09:13and I'm going to drill these out,
09:14all of these holes,
09:15and then cut them
09:16and you'll see the final product.
09:18Wow.
09:19Another subtle foos modification
09:20that's not so subtle
09:21when it comes to the work involved.
09:23A task that'll be done right
09:24thanks to the expert skill
09:26of one Shane Boulay.
09:27And as those lights
09:28make their way into the truck,
09:30a powwow takes place
09:31over at the tailgate.
09:32Craig and Brian
09:33are figuring out
09:33their next best move.
09:35We are getting ready
09:36to skin this tailgate
09:38and make it completely flat
09:39and flush across here.
09:40We have what's called a skin
09:42and we're getting ready
09:42to cut it in half
09:44so that we can seam it
09:45right down through here.
09:46It shouldn't be a problem,
09:47but weldment will take us
09:49a little while
09:49so we don't warp this
09:50because it's a lot thinner
09:51than factory.
09:52Let the skinning begin!
09:56Brian completes the cut
09:58of the skin
09:58and test fits it
09:59onto the old appliance.
10:00Now the real work begins
10:02as he welds it together,
10:03creating a flush tailgate.
10:05Meanwhile,
10:06Chris has the scoop
10:07from outside.
10:08We're here at Classic Industries.
10:10Jason's here.
10:11The truckloaded goods
10:12to see what he's got.
10:13I've got all the parts
10:14we need to put this truck
10:15back together.
10:15Let's get it inside
10:16and start building.
10:17Watch out, Chris.
10:18Here comes Lee.
10:20Chip's a madman.
10:21He's an absolute psycho.
10:23Sometimes you think
10:23he's going to go custom
10:24and he goes, uh,
10:26totally classic.
10:27Sometimes you think
10:28he's going to go, uh,
10:29fast, he goes slow.
10:31Sometimes you think
10:32he's going to go red,
10:34he goes black.
10:34Well, let's see
10:35what he wants to do
10:36this time.
10:45From the reeds,
10:46that's the Eagle,
10:46Globe, and Anchor,
10:47and what I want to do
10:47is get two of those
10:48combed,
10:49and they'll actually
10:49be little, uh,
10:50emblems on the fenders.
10:52Chris approves,
10:52and that makes it
10:53unanimous.
10:54It looks like Chip
10:55has done it again,
10:56drawing incredibly
10:57as he shimmies
10:58this build right along,
10:59all for our
11:00returning Marine.
11:01Alonzo,
11:02it's all for you.
11:03And it's all coming
11:03together for you
11:05as we now enter
11:06day three.
11:07Morning of day three.
11:09Now, Alonzo
11:09is on a plane right now
11:11coming back from overseas.
11:12He should be landing
11:13in San Diego shortly.
11:14Meanwhile,
11:15work on the truck
11:15continues.
11:16And to make this
11:17a truly personal ride
11:18for Alonzo,
11:19we're addressing
11:20every detail.
11:21All right, Alonzo,
11:22we found out
11:23you weren't a smoker,
11:24so we went ahead
11:24and replaced
11:25the ashtray
11:25with a cup holder.
11:27Well, from cup holders
11:28to cab handlers,
11:29it's a time step forward
11:30as the guys grab
11:31that passenger compartment
11:33and put it on the chassis.
11:34Before long,
11:35the truck bed
11:36is also trucked over
11:37for a tryout.
11:38As far as the front end
11:39is concerned,
11:40it's one coming
11:41off of a 67.
11:43It'll need finessing
11:44if it's going to fit.
11:47Now, fitting new sheet metal
11:48isn't as easy
11:49as it looks.
11:50You can't just put it
11:51on there, bolt it down,
11:52and you're ready to go.
11:52That's why we got guys
11:53like Jake
11:54who are experts
11:55at fitting this stuff.
11:55What are some of the issues
11:56that are presented to you
11:58when you're trying
11:58to do this?
11:59We got the fenders
12:00actually sticking out
12:01a little too far,
12:02and we put the hood on,
12:03and the hood appears
12:03to be too wide
12:04for the fenders,
12:05so we're going to have
12:05to make some slight
12:07modifications to make
12:08everything fit
12:08and lined up
12:09for a proper gap
12:10and standard.
12:12Now that we're lined up,
12:14it's time to check
12:14the ride height
12:15with a method
12:16that's a bit offbeat.
12:17It'll take the whole gang
12:18to tackle this test
12:20all standing
12:20and doing nothing.
12:22What we're doing
12:23is adding a bunch of weight
12:24to the front of the truck
12:24to see how low it's going
12:25to sit,
12:26trying to compensate
12:27for engine transmission
12:28radiator.
12:29We're going to do that.
12:30Now everybody,
12:31make the engine noises.
12:34As for the real engine,
12:40we're going to look
12:41at Alonzo's engine parts.
12:42Some of these components
12:43are pretty worn out,
12:44so we want to make sure
12:45that we replace them
12:46with the good stuff.
12:47The engine has a lot
12:47of sentimental value to them.
12:49The engine is kind of old.
12:50His dad passed away
12:51a couple years ago
12:52from cancer.
12:54Since then,
12:55his mom gave him
12:56a different truck
12:57with the engine in it.
12:58He changed it over
12:59to the truck
13:00that it's in now,
13:01but I got something
13:02to say to him.
13:03I don't know
13:04where your truck is,
13:05but there goes your engine.
13:08All right,
13:08well, all the new products
13:09we have here
13:10came in from Summit Racing,
13:12and they're obviously
13:14going to be
13:14a lot shinier.
13:16Oh, yeah.
13:16Yeah, we have
13:17brand new bearings
13:18all the way through,
13:18brand new fasteners
13:19for his engine dress-up.
13:20So you're all set
13:21to put this back together?
13:22Yes, sir.
13:24So this is actually
13:25the heart of Alonzo's truck
13:26right here.
13:27We're not doing
13:27a heart transplant.
13:29We're actually going
13:29to repair this one
13:30and do some operations
13:31on it.
13:31When we first got
13:32this engine,
13:33it came in.
13:33It goes through
13:33our cleaning process.
13:35We magnaplex it
13:36for cracks.
13:36There was no cracks,
13:37so we got a good
13:38sound block to work with.
13:39After this process
13:41right here,
13:41we go back through
13:42the tank
13:42and get all the oils
13:43off of it,
13:44goes to prep,
13:45then it's for
13:46final assembly.
13:47All right, well,
13:48Dave's got a lot of work
13:49to do tomorrow morning,
13:50and when do you think
13:51Dave will have
13:52this wrapped up?
13:52We should have
13:53this one wrapped up
13:54probably by noontime
13:55tomorrow.
13:55Okay, well, great.
13:56We'll definitely
13:57be looking forward
13:58to that,
13:58painting it that
13:59fast Chevy orange again.
14:00There you go.
14:01Elsewhere,
14:02Chris has some big news.
14:04Late afternoon now
14:05on day three,
14:06and I don't got to
14:06tell you where we are
14:07because I think
14:08you can read,
14:09but what's most important,
14:10Alonzo is back
14:11on U.S. soil.
14:12Welcome home,
14:13my brother.
14:14Let's join Nicole
14:15as she takes us along
14:16to witness the big
14:17homecoming.
14:18It's day three,
14:20and we're on base,
14:21and we are about
14:2345 minutes away
14:24from Alonzo's
14:25homecoming,
14:25and it's been seven months.
14:28I'm really excited
14:29to see him.
14:30Little does he know
14:31he's been overhauled.
14:33Saying this is a big week
14:34for Alonzo
14:35would definitely
14:35be an understatement.
14:37Alonzo!
14:38Over half a year
14:39in the line of fire,
14:40our two Marines
14:41have undoubtedly
14:42had many a sleepless night
14:43in the last seven months,
14:45but now,
14:46Alonzo's home.
14:54Of course,
14:55the very last thing
14:56on Alonzo's mind
14:57at this moment
14:57is probably
14:58his old 1970 Chevy pickup.
15:00Well,
15:01in a few hours,
15:02all of that
15:02is going to change.
15:04But first,
15:04we've got to leave
15:05our mark
15:05and our insider alone,
15:06allowing for a homecoming
15:08they've been anticipating
15:09for a good long while.
15:11Of course,
15:11before long,
15:12we'll be pranking our Marine.
15:14All is a prelude
15:15to giving him back his ride,
15:16a pickup that'll be
15:17a perfect capper
15:18to this revelry
15:19of a return.
15:20What's up, Sarge?
15:22Okay,
15:23Alonzo's truck
15:23is off to paint.
15:25The clock is ticking.
15:26These guys gotta hustle.
15:27Yeah,
15:28it's been rolled up
15:28onto a carrier,
15:29and now the carrier
15:30is rolling on over
15:31to Todd
15:32and those spray-happy
15:33cats at Fix,
15:34the place that even knows
15:35the exact time
15:36and day of our build.
15:38It's 8 o'clock
15:39on day four.
15:39We just got the car
15:40here at Fix,
15:40and we're gonna get
15:41the body work done
15:42on this thing,
15:42get some primer on it,
15:43hopefully here
15:43in the next few hours
15:44and get this thing going.
15:45That's the goal,
15:46and it's one
15:47they're determined to keep,
15:48getting the truck
15:48into the shop
15:49and the work into motion.
15:51As the day moves along,
15:52so does the progress,
15:53and soon,
15:54the time is right
15:55for yet another update
15:56from Todd.
15:58All right,
15:58it's day four.
15:59It's 7 o'clock
15:59in the evening.
16:00We've had the truck
16:00for about 10 hours now.
16:02The bed's ready
16:03to get some primer on it.
16:04We've still got
16:04some more body work
16:05to do on the body.
16:06We're gonna put
16:06the bed in right now
16:07and get some primer
16:08on this thing
16:08so we can get it
16:08blocked and re-primed
16:09in a little while.
16:10Have at it, Todd,
16:11while we join Forrest
16:12for a prank.
16:17Alonzo,
16:18I'm about to call you
16:19and tell you
16:19that your truck's
16:20been stolen.
16:21Hey, it's Forrest, man.
16:21How you doing?
16:23Hey, what's up, man?
16:24Hey, look,
16:24I got a particular reason
16:26for calling you here.
16:28What?
16:28Are you standing up
16:29or sitting down?
16:30What happened
16:31to my truck?
16:32Are you standing up
16:33or sitting down?
16:34I'm standing up.
16:35Okay, I want you
16:35to sit down.
16:36Go ahead.
16:37What's up, please?
16:38A truck's been stolen.
16:40Good.
16:40And I think how they,
16:42well, actually,
16:42I know how they did it.
16:43They pushed it
16:44down the street
16:45and then had to
16:45load it onto
16:46some type of flatbed
16:47or towed it away
16:49some kind of way.
16:49They had to do it
16:50that way
16:51because it's so loud.
16:52Everybody in the neighborhood
16:53would know it.
16:53Everybody would be looking.
16:55I don't care about the truck.
16:56I want the motor.
16:57Oh, we'll find it.
16:58You find one piece,
16:59you'll find the rest of it.
17:00Piece of cake.
17:01I got a detective.
17:02He's a pretty good guy.
17:03He's been on top of it.
17:05And he has really kept me posted
17:07as to anything
17:07that they find out.
17:09All right.
17:10All right, buddy.
17:10I'll give you a call later.
17:11All right, buddy.
17:12Bye.
17:12Forrest is crafty.
17:14I got you.
17:16I got you good.
17:18Back over at Fix.
17:20All right, it's almost midnight
17:21on day four.
17:22We just finished priming
17:22everything on the car.
17:24Tomorrow morning,
17:24we're going to come in,
17:25block the cab out,
17:26block the hood and the fenders
17:27and get this thing jammed.
17:29Hopefully, by noon,
17:30we'll have it jammed,
17:31get it all back together
17:32and get this thing back
17:33to Classic Industries.
17:34We say thanks, Todd,
17:35as we enter day five
17:37to check in with Lee.
17:39All right, it's phone prank time.
17:40Let's get Alonzo on the horn.
17:43Alonzo's back home
17:44from fighting the war on terrorism.
17:46I'm about to give him a call.
17:47Let him know he's got another battle.
17:48He's got to fight here.
17:50Hi, Alonzo.
17:50This is Teresa Daniels
17:52regarding a vehicle
17:53that was insured by us.
17:55Was this vehicle involved in a...
17:56It was a service that got stolen.
17:59And where was the vehicle
18:01last seen, the date and time?
18:04I don't know.
18:05I had to give you...
18:06My wife left the detective phone
18:07and all that stuff.
18:08You don't know when it was stolen?
18:10I was still in Iraq then.
18:12Oh.
18:1314.
18:13And what were you doing in Iraq?
18:16Fighting the war on terrorism.
18:18Oh.
18:18Oh.
18:19Wow.
18:21What would you say
18:21was the approximate value
18:22of your truck?
18:23Uh, to me, like $40,000.
18:26$40,000?
18:28Yeah.
18:29Why would you say
18:30it was so high?
18:32Because one is a classic
18:33and then all the time
18:34is the stuff I did to it
18:35since I had it.
18:36Well, how much
18:36did you pay for it?
18:38I paid $6,000 for it.
18:39$6,000.
18:40Okay, so we've got
18:41a pretty big gap there.
18:44I did everything else
18:45to it myself.
18:46Yeah, but I'm...
18:47I'm just...
18:47It's just a little iffy.
18:49Them trucks didn't have
18:50a disc brake stand.
18:50It didn't have the AC
18:51or none of that stuff in it.
18:52Okay, and you consider
18:53this truck to be a classic?
18:55It is.
18:55Anything over 30 years
18:56is a classic.
18:57Oh.
18:5836 years old.
18:59So if we are not able
19:00to find your vehicle,
19:02how much would you take?
19:03I mean, no matter
19:04what I get back,
19:06if I get anything,
19:07if it don't get found...
19:09Uh-huh.
19:09You know, if I got $50,000,
19:11that wouldn't replace
19:12with a truck.
19:12It wouldn't.
19:13Oh, really?
19:13Why?
19:14There's a lot of sentimental value.
19:16My dad built the engine
19:17and everything in it.
19:17It's a one-of-a-kind engine
19:19and all that stuff.
19:20Oh.
19:21So basically you're saying
19:22you just want your truck back.
19:23Yeah.
19:24I mean, of course,
19:24y'all ain't got nothing
19:25to do with that.
19:26Like I said,
19:27this is the most I could do,
19:28and thank you so much
19:29for serving our country.
19:30All right, thanks.
19:31Okay, thank you.
19:32All right, bye.
19:32Bye.
19:36So he did not take
19:37a check for $50,000.
19:40It's very, very sentimental to him.
19:42Well, Alonzo,
19:43two more days,
19:44you're gonna get your truck back.
19:45And allow me to add this, Alonzo.
19:47When you do get it back,
19:48it'll have one incredible paint job.
19:51Okay, I know what you're thinking.
19:52You're saying to yourself,
19:53it's a pickup truck.
19:54How long can that take to paint?
19:56But there is a lot of surface area
19:57on this truck
19:58that needs to be painted.
19:59Just look at the wheel wells.
20:00Look at how big these are.
20:02There's one out here.
20:02There's one over there.
20:03In the booth right now
20:04is the bed of the truck,
20:06the tailgate,
20:07and the glove box.
20:08That also has to be painted.
20:09Of course, we've got the cab of the truck,
20:10the main body.
20:11That's gonna take a while.
20:12As well as the entire engine compartment,
20:14the door jams,
20:14and the interior,
20:15all painted.
20:16What has yet to be painted
20:18is the grill piece
20:19and the cowl piece.
20:20These also need to be prepped
20:21and painted.
20:22And last but not least
20:23are all these molding pieces
20:25that were custom painted by Todd.
20:27Now, it may look like a simple job,
20:28but it took him four hours
20:30to mask all this off
20:31so he could lay down
20:31that one strip of paint in there.
20:33What are you thinking now?
20:34I'm thinking that's a lot of hours
20:36and a lot of paint.
20:37And as the truck rolls into the booth,
20:39it's the dark blue
20:40that's first up
20:41for this two-tone design.
20:43And as that dark blue
20:44does color the truck,
20:46we know Foos is already on his way,
20:48getting ready to divide the ride
20:49for its second shade.
20:51It'll be a pair of hues
20:52he assigned to his design
20:53just a short time ago,
20:55back when he drew up the way
20:56it was gonna hit
20:56both the cab and the bay.
21:01Ah, there he is,
21:02the titan of the tape.
21:04He's the man who can gauge better
21:06with his eye
21:07than we can gauge
21:08with our gauges.
21:10Where's the divide go?
21:11Well, he knows it
21:12when he sees it.
21:14And if he's been wrong yet,
21:15you'll have to point it out to us
21:17because we haven't seen it.
21:19It's an eye
21:20improvising something as major
21:21as the color balance
21:23of an entire truck.
21:24True enough.
21:25And if that's not
21:26the definition of art,
21:28someone's gonna need
21:29to call Webster's.
21:32All right, it's 12.30 a.m.
21:34It's officially day six now.
21:36Lorenzo's truck has the line on it.
21:37We know where to two-tone it.
21:38We can blow it apart,
21:39mask it up,
21:40get the lighter blue sprayed
21:41back over to Classic Industries
21:43and get this thing assembled.
21:44He not only knows
21:45the pieces of the plan,
21:46he also knows their exact order.
21:49Through the booth window,
21:50Chip watches Todd spray
21:52all that lighter blue color,
21:53bringing the truck
21:54one step closer
21:55to going back to our Marine.
21:57Before long,
21:57it'll be time to unwrap it
21:59and the team
21:59will be calling it a night.
22:06All right, it's 9.15
22:08in the morning, day six.
22:09Truck's painted, cleared,
22:10ready to go on the truck
22:11so we can get it back
22:11to Classic Industries.
22:13And now that it's on its way,
22:14it's time to check in
22:15with Sergeant Lee.
22:18All right, Alonzo's truck
22:19is back for paint.
22:20Let's get this sucker
22:21put back together.
22:23Move!
22:23I said move!
22:25You heard the man.
22:26Gotta get this truck together
22:27for our recently returned
22:29Marine Sergeant,
22:30a man who's gonna be
22:30stopping this ride
22:31thanks to a new set
22:32of bare brakes.
22:34And when it comes
22:34to getting that firewall ready,
22:36well, nobody does it
22:37quite like AJ.
22:38Elsewhere, the dynamat
22:40is going down
22:40and so is a major bit
22:41of business we call
22:42a face-to-face prank.
22:44It'll be an encounter
22:45in front of Alonzo's house.
22:46Mark from Classic Industries
22:48is showing up
22:48as our insurance adjuster,
22:50ready to talk about the truck
22:51and what it's worth
22:52to Alonzo.
22:54Alonzo?
22:54Yeah.
22:55What can you tell me about it?
22:57The truck?
22:58Yeah.
22:59I got some pictures.
23:00Oh, cool, cool, cool.
23:01I was talking to a lady
23:04on the phone the other day
23:05and she was asking me
23:05how much this was worth
23:07and all of that stuff
23:08like that.
23:09Uh-huh.
23:10I told her I know
23:11I wasn't gonna get
23:11what I put in it
23:13because with the engine
23:14and it, I put, you know,
23:15AC and disc brakes,
23:17rims and tires
23:18and all that.
23:19And my dad had the engine
23:20built and all the machine
23:21work and everything.
23:23I probably got,
23:24right now,
23:25between $30,000
23:25and $40,000
23:26tied up in it.
23:28Wow.
23:29That much?
23:29Yeah.
23:31I don't know
23:32if we can do the $40,000.
23:33I mean, that's a concern I have.
23:34I know I ain't gonna get that.
23:35I told her that.
23:37We're not talking
23:38anywhere near
23:38that kind of money.
23:40You know,
23:40just putting some numbers
23:41together on the motor
23:42and the stuff you've done to it,
23:44I mean,
23:44we're talking maybe $10,000.
23:46You know,
23:47unless you can show me
23:48some receipts
23:48or something else,
23:49there's not much else
23:49I can do.
23:50All right.
23:52Wow, look,
23:53I'd die if I got that many.
23:54I got a thing upstairs
23:55with some stuff in it, though.
23:57All right.
23:57I appreciate it.
23:58All right.
23:59Thanks.
23:59Good luck.
23:59I hope you find it.
24:01Alonzo was one cool customer.
24:03Well, one thing's for sure,
24:04he'll never find his ride
24:05until we give it back to him.
24:07And when we do hand it over,
24:08it'll have his father's engine
24:09rebuilt by L&R.
24:12Okay, Rob,
24:12we just got the engine
24:13back from L&R,
24:14and I know this engine
24:15is very, very important
24:16to Alonzo
24:17because him and his father
24:18worked on it a lot.
24:20Well, what we're trying to do
24:20is replace only
24:22what we had to in the motor.
24:23So we kept the original block,
24:25the original heads,
24:26all the valve train
24:28on the heads.
24:28We're going to paint it back
24:29the same color it was
24:30and stick it right back in there
24:32and it'll be just like it was
24:32when it came in.
24:33Okay, it looks like
24:34everything is trucking along nicely,
24:36but let's check in with Foose
24:37and find out what's still
24:38on the to-do list.
24:40Chip, run it all down.
24:42Got the pulley system
24:42on the motor.
24:43We're getting the windows in.
24:44We've got the interior
24:44sitting over there.
24:45The wheels will be here tomorrow.
24:47We'll get the tires on.
24:48Alonzo,
24:49not too long before you do.
24:50But first,
24:52we have to get through
24:52day seven starting over
24:54at Line-X.
24:55This morning,
24:56we're over here
24:56at Line-X at Huntington Beach.
24:58What Line-X will do for it
24:59is it'll protect it
24:59against bumps,
25:00bruises, scratches,
25:01or anything that they
25:02want to throw in this bed.
25:03We want to protect this paint
25:04because it's real pretty,
25:05so we're going to throw
25:05a good product in there
25:06to make sure the bed stays right.
25:08Man, that is lined.
25:09Well, that's it.
25:10Alonzo, you're all ready to go.
25:12Go ahead and throw
25:12whatever you want in this thing.
25:13You've got it all protected.
25:15Meanwhile,
25:15our insider Nicole
25:16shows up over
25:17at Classic Industries.
25:19Oh, my God.
25:20That is beautiful.
25:23Holy cow.
25:24Amazing, right?
25:25The guys are finishing up.
25:26I love the no door handles.
25:27The J&G guys are inside
25:28finishing up their stereo install.
25:30Of course,
25:30the chassis has been powder-coated.
25:32All of the suspension's on.
25:33The rear end is on.
25:34The brakes are on from there.
25:36Oh, I can't wait.
25:37Oh, I can't wait.
25:38We all know how special
25:39this motor is to Alonzo
25:41because he and his dad
25:42had worked on it together,
25:43not only the engine,
25:44but the transmission as well.
25:45Rob, it looks like you guys
25:46have this thing
25:47almost ready to go.
25:48Completely rebuilt, right?
25:49Yeah, completely rebuilt.
25:50Inside and out.
25:51And we used as many parts
25:52as we could
25:53from the old motor.
25:54Great.
25:55Permagrain.
25:57How has it been
25:58having him back
25:59from my rack
25:59these past few days?
26:00Oh, great.
26:00It's been wonderful
26:01having someone
26:02to have dinner with
26:02and go to the gym with
26:03and, you know,
26:04do stuff with.
26:05He's my best friend, too.
26:06Yeah.
26:06So it's...
26:07That's great.
26:07Everybody go get a tissue.
26:09You're watching over on.
26:11Afternoon, day seven.
26:12Alonzo,
26:13we're getting ready
26:13to put your motor
26:14in your truck.
26:15So let's get this thing in there.
26:16It's a good idea
26:17quickly made real.
26:19The engine is in
26:20and with a few tweaks,
26:21the crew should have
26:22this motor cranking
26:23in no time.
26:24The bed's returned
26:25and the team doesn't waste
26:26a single second
26:27reattaching it to the frame.
26:28Soon, there's audio involved,
26:30a one-off speaker enclosure
26:32from J&G Customs.
26:33Moving along,
26:34the reinvented tailgate
26:36finds its way back
26:36onto the Chevy
26:37and once it's reattached,
26:39it's a fit,
26:40making matters all
26:41just a bit more truck-like.
26:43And now,
26:43cruising from the back
26:44to the front,
26:45it seems like there's
26:46a new grille in town.
26:48All right,
26:48we just got the front fenders on
26:49and now it's time
26:50to put the grille on.
26:51Chris,
26:52just what time is it here
26:53on day seven?
26:53It's nitty-gritty time
26:54here on day seven.
26:56We're getting down
26:56to the details.
26:57The guys are putting
26:58the trim on the truck
26:59right now
26:59and as we showed you
27:00over at the paint shop,
27:01this trim's got a real
27:02nice custom touch.
27:03Todd masked off the sides
27:04and then put a strip
27:05of this blue
27:06that picks up
27:07the lighter blue
27:07in the pinstripe.
27:08You can see the difference
27:09between the old
27:10and the new.
27:11Old, bad, ugly, new.
27:13Good, beautiful.
27:16We have a gauge cluster
27:17ready to go in the dash.
27:19It's an original reproduction
27:20given to us
27:21by Classic Industries.
27:22It makes my job
27:23a lot easier
27:23because I can just
27:24snap it right in.
27:25Another piece
27:26that's been made handy
27:27thanks to Classic Industries
27:28is the big new hood.
27:30And once it's on,
27:31well,
27:31I know I speak
27:32for the whole team here
27:33when I say
27:34that we are now
27:34putting a lid
27:35on day seven.
27:37It's a D-Day
27:38kind of morning.
27:409.30 in the morning.
27:40You know it's D-Day
27:41because Dennis is here.
27:42He's putting his final
27:43stripes on the truck.
27:44We chose to go
27:44with the orange
27:45and the two-tone gray
27:46from myself
27:47and everybody here
27:48on Overhauling.
27:48It's a big thank you
27:49to Alonzo
27:50and everybody else
27:51that's over there
27:51fighting for our country.
27:54Nearby,
27:54Chris says he thinks
27:55it's time to talk
27:56about something.
27:58Time to talk
27:58wheels and tires.
27:59These are Foos Design
28:01Knights,
28:01part of this Foos Classic
28:02series provided to us
28:03of course by
28:04MHT Luxury Alloys.
28:06Going to be wrapped up
28:07in some Firestone
28:08Firehawk wide ovals.
28:09Let's get these over
28:10to Firestone
28:10and get them mounted up.
28:12And as the truck
28:12is made rolling,
28:13we're rolling
28:14into a phone prank
28:15where Chris will convey
28:16the opposite
28:17of what's happening.
28:18As Alonzo's truck
28:19continues to go up
28:20in value here
28:20at the shop,
28:21Chris will tell our mark
28:22it's going down.
28:23Hi, it's Keith Means.
28:28I'm here with
28:28the insurance company
28:29and we are ready
28:30to send you,
28:31let's see here.
28:32We're looking at
28:32about a $5,000 value,
28:34so minus your deductible
28:35plus some administrative fees.
28:37We're ready to ship
28:38you a check for $22.75.
28:41How did y'all come up
28:42with that figure?
28:43Well, it's the $1,500
28:45deductible, like I said,
28:46and then there's some
28:47slight administration fees
28:48that we have here.
28:48I mean, I know it's not you
28:50and I know the insurance company
28:51got to do what they got to do,
28:52man, but I got a lot of money
28:53and stuff, and I know
28:54that I wasn't going to get
28:56what I put into the truck,
28:57and that was a risk I took.
28:59We're in business, obviously,
29:00and we're trying to make money,
29:01and the way we make money
29:02is to give you guys
29:03the lowest possible settlement
29:04on you.
29:04I'm telling you that honestly.
29:06So, you know,
29:06if you're happy with that,
29:07we can wrap this up today,
29:10and I can cut you that check,
29:12and I can get this folder
29:13off of my pile of claims
29:15to be taken care of.
29:16Go ahead and do what you got to do,
29:18man.
29:18I don't want to get you
29:18no more work than you got
29:19than you need to take.
29:20I can imagine you
29:21on a work level.
29:22I certainly do have
29:23a big pile of folders
29:24on my desk here.
29:25So I'll go ahead
29:25and I'll cut you this check.
29:26I'll pop it in the mail
29:27today or on Monday,
29:28and we'll consider this closed.
29:30Okay, man.
29:31Okay, thank you.
29:33All right, bye.
29:34Goodbye.
29:35Alonzo, sorry, man.
29:36I did my best to rile you up,
29:37but you're just too cool
29:38for school.
29:40All right, it's afternoon
29:41on D-Day,
29:42and we're about ready
29:43to fire up the engine.
29:44Rob, are we ready?
29:45Yeah, let's do it.
29:45All right.
29:46Fire it up.
29:47Go ahead.
29:47Oh, man, that is nice.
29:52I think we're ready to go.
29:53We just got to put a little bit
29:53more fluids in it
29:54and let's get it off to Alonzo.
29:56All right, Alonzo,
29:57sounds good to us.
29:58We hope it's music to your ears.
29:59Mr. Segway says,
30:01speaking of music...
30:02All right, Joe,
30:03we're moments away
30:03from giving this truck
30:04back to Alonzo.
30:05Are we ready?
30:06Yep, we're ready to go.
30:07Got those kick panels mounted.
30:08Let's go in here,
30:08how it sounds.
30:09All right.
30:09Well, Alonzo, there you have it.
30:17J&G Customs comes through again.
30:19And now we have to come through again
30:21with another phone prank.
30:23Bear with us.
30:23One more phone prank to go.
30:25I am now going to call Alonzo
30:27as the detective.
30:28Hello.
30:29My name is Detective Zachary Clayton.
30:31I'm with the Hammock Police Department.
30:32I do have some information for you
30:35about your 1970 Chevrolet pickup truck.
30:39We came across some property
30:40that may be yours,
30:42so we want you to take a look at it
30:43and see if you can verify that for us
30:45so we can proceed with our investigation.
30:47When you say property,
30:48you mean vehicle or...
30:49Yes.
30:50All right.
30:51We'll get this taken care of.
30:53All right.
30:53Let's get down to see Alonzo
30:56at his house
30:57and get in his car back.
31:00All right, now the maggots
31:02got to keep working,
31:03but you, I know,
31:04we're ready for some prank time.
31:05Let's go have a little fun.
31:07Sergeant Lee has finally issued
31:08an order I want to hear.
31:10Chris drives up as an officer
31:11who's found some of Alonzo's truck parts,
31:14parts we're not using
31:15on his reinvented ride.
31:17We're really hoping our Mark
31:18is in a good mood
31:19because he's not going to like
31:21what he's going to see.
31:22For him,
31:23it will signify the end
31:24of his Chevy pickup.
31:25V12 to head.
31:27V12 to head.
31:27I'm here with the complainant.
31:29How you doing, sir?
31:30Nice to meet you.
31:31Come on over here.
31:32I just want to show you
31:34some 40-glass first.
31:3840-glass.
31:40It's got some parts in here, too.
31:42Sorry, Alonzo.
31:43There's no truck driving up here.
31:46I hate to show you this.
31:52It's terrible.
31:55You recognize any of those parts?
31:56Yeah, it's all mine.
31:57What do you recognize in there?
31:59Everything.
32:01Every single piece.
32:03V12 to head.
32:03We got a positive ID
32:04on the parts that we brought down.
32:07It's coming us back up
32:08so you don't need to look
32:09at that any longer.
32:11Our Mark figures
32:11those parts are all that's left.
32:13But don't you worry, Alonzo.
32:15We have another surprise in store,
32:17and he happens to be coming out
32:19of a nearby vehicle.
32:20If I can just have
32:21your signature right there
32:22I'm verifying that you
32:23identified the parts.
32:24Okay, so what's going to happen now
32:29is I'm going to log this report
32:32and we can get you back
32:34the parts that we have
32:35if you want those back.
32:38You don't want anything back?
32:42Okay.
32:44So now there's probably
32:44something you want back.
32:46Yeah, my truck?
32:47Yeah.
32:48Who's this guy?
32:49Welcome home, Alonzo.
32:51How you doing?
32:51I made a good welcome home, Alonzo.
32:55It's not?
32:56No.
32:57My truck stole it.
32:59Well, I wish there was something
33:01we could do to get him
33:01his truck back.
33:03What should we do?
33:04Well, you know,
33:04there's that TV show.
33:06You ever seen overhauling?
33:07No, it's a 12.
33:08Well, congratulations.
33:10You're on overhauling.
33:13How you doing, man?
33:14Congratulations.
33:15One week ago
33:16we stole your truck
33:17and in that past week
33:18we've been messing with you
33:19and Chip and the A-Team
33:20put it back together for you
33:21and now you're the proud owner
33:22of an overhauled vehicle.
33:24Alonzo was blinded by grief
33:25until we made it all clear.
33:27Well, welcome home.
33:29Congratulations.
33:29Yes, definitely welcome.
33:30We've got your truck
33:31and we've been playing with it.
33:32Okay.
33:32And you're going to see it shortly.
33:34Alonzo, tell us
33:35if you had an unlimited budget
33:36and unlimited time,
33:37what were some of the things
33:37that you would do to your truck?
33:39The main thing I wanted
33:40was my dad build the engine
33:41before he passed away.
33:43When I noticed
33:44my uncle told me
33:45the truck was gone,
33:46I didn't care nothing
33:47about the truck,
33:47I just wanted the engine part.
33:49Chip and the A-Team
33:50all week long
33:50have been working really hard
33:51on hopefully building
33:52what's going to turn out
33:53to be your dream truck.
33:55Okay.
33:55You ready to go check it out?
33:56Yeah.
33:57All right, man.
33:57Welcome home once again.
33:58Congratulations, Alonzo.
33:59Thanks.
33:59Right on.
34:00Let's go.
34:03All right, it's reveal time
34:04and the truck looks great.
34:07Fusay so bad.
34:08Later, Sarge,
34:09because now it's time.
34:11All right, Alonzo,
34:12ready for your life to change?
34:13Yeah.
34:15All right, open your eyes
34:16when you're ready.
34:34Oh, man.
34:35I don't believe this.
34:37Oh, man.
34:38I can't even...
34:39I don't know what to think.
34:41I hope I can...
34:42Impossible to put yourself
34:44in his place.
34:45Back home for less than a week
34:47after months in Iraq
34:48and a day after you return,
34:49you begin mourning
34:50the loss of a family treasure.
34:52And now you get this.
34:54Oh, man.
34:57This can't be mine.
35:02Oh, man.
35:03I don't know what to say.
35:04I don't know what to think.
35:06Man, that's crazy right there.
35:09I'm trembling.
35:10Oh, I don't believe this, man.
35:11This can't...
35:13This ain't real.
35:16It is real.
35:18But if I were in his shoes,
35:19I probably couldn't buy it either.
35:21And here's the real kicker for us.
35:23Most marks can't believe
35:24how much their ride
35:25has changed in seven days.
35:26Well, this guy hasn't seen
35:27his truck for seven months,
35:28and he still can't believe it.
35:30Chalk up another one
35:31for the amazing A-team.
35:35You serious?
35:36This is your truck.
35:37You serious?
35:38I would have never thought
35:43all of this right here, ever.
35:45This is a dream.
35:46This is a dream.
35:48Oh, my goodness.
35:49I don't even want to look
35:50under the hood.
35:51I need a seat.
35:53It's a 1970 Chevy truck
35:54that's changed a lot
35:55in just seven short days.
35:57And now our former Mark
35:58is going to meet the guys
35:59who did all those changes.
36:02Nice to meet you, guys.
36:03Congratulations.
36:04Thanks.
36:05It's a little different
36:06than it was, huh?
36:06Oh, yeah.
36:08Thanks.
36:09For everyone in Classic Industries,
36:10I want to say thank you
36:11for putting yourself
36:11in harm's way.
36:12Probably recognize this guy.
36:14I got a present for you.
36:16There's that check
36:17that you talked about.
36:19So if you want to get rid of it,
36:20we're there for you.
36:22So now Alonzo knows
36:24just how elaborate
36:24this whole operation has been,
36:26with builders playing
36:27insurance guys
36:28while other builders
36:29worked in the shop
36:29and got the truck done.
36:31The color evolved,
36:32replacing stale green
36:33with old blue,
36:34the rightfully returned name
36:35of this fully reborn Chevy.
36:37It went from work truck
36:38to show truck
36:39in just one twisted
36:41and tireless week.
36:42And at the moment,
36:43there's a Marine
36:43who just can't believe
36:44what he's looking at.
36:48Time for Alonzo
36:49to get inside
36:50and check it all out.
36:53How do you feel, man?
36:54It's like heaven.
36:56Now that he's inside,
36:57Alonzo notices
36:58some special details,
36:59like that inscription
37:00on the passenger side.
37:02Oh, man.
37:04That's this right here,
37:05my dad name.
37:09Because I was doing
37:10the truck in his memory, too.
37:12What do you think
37:13your dad would think
37:14of the truck right now
37:15if he saw it?
37:17I don't know,
37:17but he probably wouldn't
37:18imagine nothing like this
37:19either, like I don't.
37:20And of course,
37:21all these thoughts
37:22of his father
37:23lead to what's under the hood,
37:24that preserved
37:25and rebuilt powertrain
37:26that means so much
37:27to the recently returned Marine.
37:29The only thing I got left
37:31to hold on from my dad,
37:32so that's something he built.
37:34It was something
37:35he was into building.
37:37My mom gave me the truck
37:38after he passed away,
37:39and, you know,
37:40the only, like I said,
37:41the only memory I had
37:42is the engine.
37:43So, like I said,
37:44if I hadn't seen the truck again
37:45but could get the engine back,
37:46I would have been happy with that.
37:48Well, he's going to be
37:49real happy now.
37:53Holy
37:53It's still the motor
38:05his father rebuilt
38:06with just a little more power
38:07along for the ride.
38:10Beautiful.
38:11American muscle.
38:12Hope you enjoy it.
38:14Thanks, man.
38:15Oh, man,
38:15that looked great.
38:16And great
38:17is now the word
38:18for every inch
38:19of this incredible
38:191970 Chevy truck.
38:21So now I've got
38:30to make a bunch
38:30of phone calls
38:31and tell people
38:31my truck wasn't stolen.
38:33All right, well,
38:34there's one more person left,
38:35the guy behind it all
38:36that chose the colors,
38:37design, everything.
38:40Designer Chip Foose.
38:42Congratulations again,
38:43Alonzo.
38:44Thanks, man.
38:45Thanks.
38:45Awesome.
38:46Beautiful.
38:47And welcome home.
38:48Thanks.
38:49All these people
38:50with their heart and soul
38:51come to this truck
38:51for you in the last week.
38:53Hey, thank all of y'all.
38:54Insider coming out
38:55right here,
38:56and I think you have
38:56a little something
38:57you want to say to him.
38:59I heard you wanted
38:59to kick my ass.
39:00I want to kick your ass.
39:05Y'all got me.
39:06Y'all got me.
39:08I don't know what to say.
39:11I can't believe it, man.
39:13I could sit here
39:14and look at it forever.
39:15It's nice.
39:16It's more than that.
39:18More than nice
39:18is right.
39:19With new fuse wheels
39:20and a killer paint job
39:21from Fix Auto.
39:23Classic Industries
39:23handed over the space
39:24and the parts
39:25to bring it all together.
39:26And when it came
39:27to both improving
39:28and protecting
39:28that sacred family engine,
39:30it could only go
39:31to those motor medics
39:32at L&R.
39:35First and foremost,
39:36I want to say
39:37thank you to everybody.
39:38I was actually thinking
39:39I was having a heart attack
39:40after my uncle told me
39:41that it was gone.
39:42Just due to the sentimental value
39:44of, you know,
39:44if the truck wasn't there
39:45and not.
39:46I understand y'all put
39:47a lot of time
39:48and effort into it.
39:49I appreciate it.
39:50I mean, I'm speechless.
39:52I don't know what to say.
39:53What do you say?
39:54I'm shaking and trembling
39:56right now.
39:56I don't believe it.
39:57I don't know
