00:00That's my own bad self, Chris Jacobs.
00:09And that's the genius with the cars on the brain, Chip Foose.
00:13And on today's overhauling, Michael's the mark, driving a 1965 Thunderbird.
00:18Michael's a deputy sheriff, and we're incarcerating his car inside ACS.
00:23Michael's wife, Stephanie, is our insider.
00:25We're keeping the fakery up for seven days as we hatch a T-Bird that now only soars through Michael's imagination.
00:31Getting the ride ready for our reveal by way of Foose and our team of auto-building pros.
00:36And we'll prank that deputy sheriff as his car becomes so cool it ought to be illegal.
00:40See, it all begins in a blink when we get all grabby with a 65.
00:43Here, where the owner gets tricked and his Thunderbird gets a whole new set of thunder.
00:48With lightning striking now on overhauling.
00:55Mike is the mark with a 65 T-Bird.
01:22His wife, Stephanie, is our insider.
01:26Let's go tow it, hook it, and treat it.
01:33Mike and Stephanie pull up to their usual breakfast spot by the water.
01:39Ah, there's our unsuspecting mark, hungry for some pancakes.
01:42His wife, Stephanie, our insider, gets out and the happy couple's on their way down the pier.
01:48See, we don't let a minute go to waste.
02:00Craig goes out there to pull the rotor so the car won't start.
02:03Nice, huh?
02:03And later, we are on.
02:15Oh, man.
02:16Back from the meal and it seems that Mike can't get his car started.
02:20He's having no luck cranking it over, so it's time to pop the hood.
02:24The man is visibly perplexed, so now it's time for me to enter the scene.
02:37Hey, what's happening?
02:38You guys need to jump or something?
02:40I don't know.
02:41It's just not starting.
02:42Joel turns his truck around because we have got him hooked.
02:46Jump back in.
02:47Turn it over for me for a second.
02:48All right.
02:48All right.
02:48Go ahead and try it.
03:00Go ahead and stop.
03:01He may be flooded.
03:09No problem at all.
03:12And it ran good when it came down.
03:15What's that?
03:16Yeah, you're dead.
03:16I don't know how to control this thing.
03:18Tell us.
03:21I personally don't know a lot about him.
03:24I know, you know, change plugs, this and that, but nothing new to me.
03:27This was his dad's car.
03:29Oh, yeah?
03:29He passed away.
03:30You going to fix it up?
03:32Someday.
03:33You know, we've got so much going on.
03:36We've got eight kids.
03:38Eight kids?
03:39Give me a moment and I'll try and fit it in somewhere.
03:43Beautiful.
03:43Didn't you say it was your dad's car?
03:44Yeah.
03:45It was his daily driver, actually.
03:46We were kind of a car family, too.
03:49I mean, I kind of backed him and he kind of worked on him.
03:52So when he retired, that's what we did.
03:54That's great.
03:55So it was a lot of fun.
03:57Unfortunately, I lost him a couple years ago.
03:58Oh, I'm sorry about that.
04:00It kind of means a little bit more to me.
04:01That's exactly.
04:04Mikey, just give me a signature right there at the bottom.
04:07Where are you guys out of?
04:08We're in Calabasas.
04:11What are you doing here?
04:12I'll give you.
04:12Okay, careful now.
04:14Mike's a deputy sheriff, a perceptive guy who pays attention to details.
04:18Right down.
04:18Authorized by.
04:19But we pull it off and Mike signs the car over to us.
04:23All right.
04:23You got a card, you said?
04:24No sweat.
04:24Yeah, Joel's got one for you.
04:25All right, guys.
04:26Okay.
04:27Cool, man.
04:27All right, Mike.
04:28We'll take care of him for you.
04:29All right.
04:29All right.
04:30All right.
04:30All right.
04:30So as we make off with his ride, Mike checks over the paperwork.
04:38He then makes sure that we are careful with his dad's beloved T-Bird.
04:42E-brake shot.
04:44You're going right over there, right?
04:45Yeah.
04:46You're going right over there?
04:47Yeah.
04:47Okay.
04:54We're here to overhaul.
04:55All right.
04:56So that's what we're doing.
04:57Let's get the A-team out here and pick it apart.
05:00His finger looking good.
05:03Bubbles, little.
05:05Look, there's a thumb in there.
05:07What are your thoughts?
05:08Well, we got a lot of rust in it, so I think we need to get it in there, get it apart.
05:11He blasts the whole thing.
05:12The metal guys are going to have a bit of work at home.
05:15After media blasting, we'll see a lot more.
05:23All right.
05:24You guys ready to go inside and get this thing taken apart?
05:26Yeah.
05:27All right.
05:27Let's do it.
05:30So who's the team captain of all this?
05:35Well, we voted, and dang, that wily Chip Boosh went and won the title again.
05:40Okay.
05:41Michael loves this T-Bird like nobody's business.
05:44And as we're about to take it apart, we're pondering pranks.
05:47We got to fool a deputy sheriff who knows how thieves operate.
05:53Later, this car will be on the sketch pad of a chap named Chip.
05:57And there's already a rumor that Chip has a big design idea up his sleeve.
06:01But first, we have to take it apart so we can see what's what.
06:05See what's within the car is really what's what.
06:08And we can only get there by disassembling.
06:16All right.
06:17Time to tear this Thunderbird down.
06:20And already we can see that things are not in great shape.
06:23Right, Andreas?
06:24What we see from the trunk is where we see most of the damage that's been done through time.
06:28And that design rumor?
06:33We're doing a little research right now on what it would take to make it into a roadster.
06:36Not a convertible, but a roadster.
06:38We need what had on top, right?
06:39No top at all.
06:40And that's a really cool T-Bird with no bleeding.
06:43It's just style.
06:44All style, baby.
06:46Mid-60s American style.
06:48Make that mid-60s American rust bucket.
06:55Ooh, oh, nice.
06:57Look at this fat boy.
07:00What'd you find?
07:01Hornet's nest.
07:02Hornets?
07:03Gotta love that, man.
07:06Our main concern?
07:08Getting the engine out.
07:09This thing has got to be totally rebuilt in a very short time.
07:13See, it's a process that takes weeks, and it's going to have to be done in three days.
07:17So this power plant is coming out now.
07:21There you go.
07:21The motor's out of the car.
07:23Get some very good hands.
07:24Mike, sleep well, dude.
07:25It's going to be a long week.
07:27And it's really going to be a long week for our A-team, already making great progress,
07:32in spite of the fact that this T-Bird is a rust T-Bird.
07:40Yep, there's rust.
07:42As we dig deeper, we're finding more and more damage on the car.
07:49And what is on tonight's late-night menu?
07:51Well, it is a steady diet of fixing holes and busting rust.
07:55Fixes all the rust.
07:57We'll cut that, remove it, put this one on.
07:59So far, so good, because it looks like it's coming together.
08:04And for a Wild Tech builder like Ben, the final reward is in the final reaction.
08:09One of the coolest things for me is I've always liked to do stuff for people, to see their reactions,
08:15you know, to do something for somebody they might not be able to do or make something for somebody.
08:19And working with Chip for a couple minutes, you can learn stuff that would take people, you know, weeks to do.
08:26We don't have weeks here on overhauling.
08:28In fact, even though we just got the car, it's about to leave.
08:32It's ended day one.
08:33The car is now ready to go to media blasting.
08:35We got as much done on the car that we could without it being media blasted.
08:38Once we get it back, we'll assess how much more rust is in it
08:41and attack the car where we need to attack it then.
08:47And now Mike's wife, Stephanie, comes to check it all out.
08:52That's it?
08:53That's it?
08:54It doesn't even look the same.
08:56It's amazing, right?
08:56Oh, my God.
09:02Oh, my God.
09:04Oh, my God.
09:08I'm speechless.
09:10And I have eight kids, and believe me, when I need words, I have them.
09:14She knows the name of what we're up to here.
09:17Overhauling, huh?
09:18Yeah.
09:19What did I get myself into?
09:23Well, Chip's heard some things about what Mike likes,
09:25and he's going to do a rough sketch to show Stephanie what's on his mind and what's on his drawing board.
09:31He is making the roadster, taking the top off the easy way.
09:39He's drawing it off.
09:40The hard part will soon follow.
09:42Taking the factory roof off a rusty old car is not easy.
09:46In fact, this might fall into that famous foos category of biting off more than we can chew.
09:51Hey, Mike, you're getting overhauled.
09:54Stephanie, how's Mike doing?
09:55He's good.
09:56Yesterday went smooth.
09:57Yeah?
09:57Good transition from yesterday until this morning.
10:00Well, we got a couple of lists here.
10:02When he says emerald green, I don't know where he's going with the emerald green,
10:05so I grabbed a couple of different colors.
10:08I know that he, in the past, has said vibrant.
10:12Vibrant?
10:12And he doesn't like dark.
10:14Doesn't like dark.
10:15It says in here, make convertible.
10:18Right.
10:19What we could do is give him a roadster.
10:21And that means?
10:23Which is, there's no top at all.
10:24Oh, my God.
10:27Something like this.
10:28His car would look like that?
10:30Yeah.
10:31Oh, my God.
10:33You think you'd like that?
10:35That's incredible.
10:36Oh, my God.
10:38I think you'd like that.
10:39You think you'd like that?
10:40I think so.
10:41When you say no top, what happens when it rains?
10:44You get wet.
10:45I have one like this, too.
10:46Really?
10:47Mm-hmm.
10:47Now, you're making the call whether we go with or without the top.
10:50If you like it without the top.
10:52I say go for it.
10:53That's amazing.
10:55We're cutting the top off.
10:56Oops.
10:57Sorry, Mike.
11:00Wow.
11:01All right.
11:02Give it up.
11:03Thanks.
11:04I'm overwhelmed.
11:05It's incredible.
11:06It's his father's car.
11:07And his father's gone.
11:08And this is the only material possession, so to speak,
11:12that he has left of Dad.
11:14Once he does find out his dad's car is in jeopardy,
11:17how's he going to react here?
11:18He's going to be devastated.
11:20Michael will go into full force mode of get it fixed.
11:23So he'll investigate.
11:24He'll use all of his resources to investigate?
11:26I'm his resource.
11:27It will be me.
11:30Meanwhile, our guys are still battling rust.
11:33This car's rather bad off.
11:35New panels emerge, grinded and shaped to fit.
11:44It's time to get the top off.
11:45But hey, what's with the X?
11:47Why we're putting the X in the center of the car
11:49is to support the actual structure of the car
11:51so when we cut the roof off of it, it doesn't fold in.
11:54This will hold it in place.
11:56Give her all the ugly.
11:57Oh, man, is Foose ever loose this time?
12:01And it's happening with an air saw.
12:03He's cutting the top off, so this soon-to-be roadster
12:06will get a whole new look at the wide-open road and sky.
12:10Hey, don't ever come between Chip and his saw,
12:13because when Foose is cutting, the man is in the zone.
12:15For 40 long years, this top has held on tight.
12:29But a couple days with Foose, and it's going, going, gone.
12:32Day two, 940 in the evening, top's off.
12:35Now the work begins.
12:40Work, like the hours needed cleaning up the cuts,
12:43but Foose knows it's going to be worth it.
12:45Like my T-bird, there's no top at all.
12:47I call it my four-wheel motorcycle.
12:48Just get out and enjoy it.
12:53Morning day three, 10 o'clock,
12:55mostly doing rust repair right now.
12:58Cars' damage is a lot more extensive than we predicted.
13:02Can't even specify when we're going to look at paint.
13:05How much rust is there?
13:07Enough to have us checking out the panels on a donor car.
13:10Panels good enough to make us take the whole car into the shop.
13:12It's solid.
13:13It's not being held together by rust.
13:16So it's definitely something to work with.
13:18Time is definitely an issue right now.
13:21So this will save us quite a bit of time.
13:24We just need to get it inside and start cutting this one up as well.
13:28So it's time to get the donor car cleaned and ready for blasting,
13:32because Chip is going to attempt a few transplants worthy of a skilled surgeon.
13:37I think I'm going to cut this all the way down to the floor.
13:42Cut all that out and we'll just put that whole piece in.
13:45There's a lot of major changing going on here.
13:47And by now, not only is Foose altering the very model of the car,
13:51he's boldly claiming that a Ford is now going to become a Chevy?
13:55Well, Mike, we've decided to give you an El Camino.
14:01It's late on the evening of day three,
14:04and Chip and the guys are unsure about just how much more work lies ahead.
14:08Work relating to that four-letter word known as rust.
14:11It's 3 a.m., officially day four now.
14:17Still fixing rust.
14:24Day one, fix and rust.
14:26Day two, fix and rust.
14:27Day three, fix and rust.
14:28Tuning in tomorrow, day five, fix and rust.
14:32We're going to try and get the car back together
14:34so we can maybe make something cool out of it,
14:35but right now we're fixing rust.
14:40All right, it's day four.
14:41We're going to call Mike.
14:42Mike's left three messages on the prank phone.
14:45He thinks it's at a dealership right now.
14:47None of that is true, obviously.
14:49I'm nervous.
14:52I'm calling our deputy sheriff as Teddy from the dealership.
14:56What are we talking about, Bryce?
14:57Well, it's, you know, I'm ballparking at about maybe $1,200, $1,500.
15:04What does that include?
15:06Well, like I said, I'm going to change all of your wires.
15:09I'm going to switch out your coil.
15:11I'll do a complete spark plug job on it all.
15:13I'll just get the electrical all back up to speed.
15:16Yeah, well, you know what?
15:17I want to give a second opinion on it.
15:20So we can pick up my vehicle.
15:22That doesn't really work for me as a thing.
15:25Oh, shoot.
15:27Because I already started the work on it, too.
15:30I didn't authorize you to start to work on it.
15:32So I want to pick up my vehicle, preferably today, okay?
15:37And then I want to take it somewhere else and see what they say.
15:41Okay.
15:42Well, let me get this thing going for you, and I'll give you a call back in a little bit
15:47to let you know that they're coming to pick it up, and it's on its way to you.
15:51Thanks, bye-bye.
15:53Okay, now not only am I nervous, but I'm actually scared.
15:57Let's not forget that Mike is a sheriff, which means he has a gun and a badge.
16:01And the rule is don't mess with sheriffs.
16:04Now, Mike wants his car back.
16:06What are we going to do?
16:07Because we can't send him the car as it is right now.
16:09That'd be weird.
16:11Where are we going to find a T-Bird, a white one, that we could send him?
16:15I got to think about this.
16:21Meanwhile, here at Larry's T-Bird, where they specialize in all sorts of T-Bird parts,
16:26the interior starts to take shape.
16:28Okay, we're heading over to the upholstery department.
16:32This is the vinyl that Chip picked out.
16:34He's going with a non-stock vinyl grain in color.
16:39Now the fabric's off to Surf City.
16:41What we got here is the dash from the T-Bird.
16:44I'm going to lay out the new foam on it to help hide the crack
16:48and hopefully do a nice job laying it in, covering it up, making it look brand new again.
16:56Oh, hey, let's see what Dave is up to over at L&R.
16:59Today we're going to build this 394 for Mike.
17:02We're going to hook up the rest of the rods on the pistons and put the rings on it and start assembling.
17:08Okay, the next big step on this project, carefully installing the oil rings.
17:14Now we're getting ready to put the pistons in the block.
17:17Working at the speed of a pro of his caliber, Dave prepped it all with a little lube
17:22so the pistons can now arrive home as they should.
17:30I've been doing it for about 45 years, so that's probably 22,795 engines in my life so far.
17:42You run the bolts in, torque them down, and that's it.
17:44The excitement is palpable.
17:48The engine that we pulled out of this car only four days ago is back, and it looks brand new.
17:52Mike, what would have taken you six months to do?
17:56We did it in four days, man.
17:58Four days.
18:00Got to call Mike again.
18:02This time we're going to call him as Joel, the tow truck driver guy,
18:04and ask him where he wants us to tow his car now.
18:07I'm going to suggest that he takes it to a friend of ours shop, Joe at Chicane Sport Motoring.
18:11Hopefully, he's going to say yes, because that will make things a lot easier for us.
18:14We'll be able to keep him on ice a little bit longer.
18:16Let's call Mike and see what happens.
18:19For today, we're cutting back on face-to-face pranks here
18:22because we are being extra careful with our deputy sheriff.
18:25On the phone, it's quickly agreed that we take his car to Chicane for a second opinion.
18:30So you're going to get over there tomorrow?
18:31I'll take care of it tomorrow, absolutely.
18:33All right, I appreciate it.
18:34No problem.
18:35Thanks.
18:36Okay, bye-bye.
18:37Bye-bye.
18:40Hey, it's day five.
18:44Look at that.
18:45No rust.
18:49All the metal work is done on the body.
18:51We're just finishing up a couple pieces that we need to finish up because we cut the top off.
18:55Got to finish the A-post around the windshield and also this tonneau cover.
19:00I would say we're probably about maybe four or five hours away from going to paint shop.
19:04And Mike, it was a little more than just a rotor missing.
19:07Welcome to Primer Time.
19:12We're trying to get a head start on these parts and get them primed up so when we're ready for the car,
19:16we can slap these babies on and go to work.
19:20Hey, it's our inaugural glimpse of the wickedly cool green chip cooked up,
19:24going first of all on Mike's engine.
19:26And since it is going on the engine, it is going on all the engines.
19:30Hey, that looks like Mike's car, a ride that was his dad's, full of sentimental value.
19:36I'm sitting here on Mike's donor car for tomorrow's prank.
19:39Ah, so it's white paint going on the donor car so it can pass from a distance as Mike's ride.
19:46Well, it's about 4.30 in the afternoon of day five.
19:49Still got some more metal work to do.
19:50We're getting close.
19:53This one's going to be a nail-biter, I think.
19:56Craig's right.
19:57We are cutting it close.
19:58But luckily, we got a head start by painting the inside of the doors, deck lid, and hood.
20:03It's soon late as the team works hard to finish sanding and straighten out the body.
20:06So after a long day, the car has rolled to the next stage of its journey,
20:19and that next stage involves a lot of the color green.
20:25Okay, you're going to have to tighten your seatbelts for this one, and it starts with a question.
20:30Why is the newly painted donor car now here at the Crushers?
20:32Prank time.
20:33This is a big one.
20:34We are here at Pick Your Part in Stanton.
20:35AJ's going to be playing Amber Stephens, who, what, basically runs this place, right?
20:39The boss.
20:40Along with who?
20:41My husband.
20:42Uh-huh.
20:43Crush it!
20:44Mike's going to come down here.
20:45He's going to see that T-bird up on there.
20:46Hopefully you think it's his.
20:48Shenanigans will ensue.
20:51Here we go.
20:55Hello?
20:56Hi, is this Mike?
20:57Yeah.
20:58Hi, Mike.
20:59My name is Amber Stephens.
21:00I'm with Pick Your Part over in Stanton.
21:02I have a T-bird that just got dropped off this morning, and it's about to go into the crusher.
21:09But my husband put everything on hold because it just looks a little too nice to crush.
21:14And I actually want you to come down here and see if it's yours or not.
21:18Do not crush that car.
21:20Okay.
21:20Okay?
21:20I will put it...
21:21If it's my car, don't...
21:23Okay.
21:23It belongs to my dad.
21:24Don't crush that car, okay?
21:26Somebody messed up somewhere that doesn't belong there.
21:28No, I'll make sure I'll put everything on hold.
21:30I'm on my way.
21:31All right.
21:32See you then.
21:32Bye.
21:33Bye.
21:34Crush it!
21:35Woo-hoo!
21:36In record time, Mike gets here, rushing headfirst into our trap, more than a little eager to
21:41see the yet-to-be-crushed T-bird.
21:43I'll be right back.
21:44We don't have the title at the moment, so...
21:45Yeah, it's my father's car.
21:46My pop star, so, you know, the last one he had before he died.
21:51Hey, Will, this is Amber.
21:52Do not crush the car.
21:55Copy that.
21:55We're gonna crush it.
21:57No, no, no.
21:58I said do not crush the car.
22:00Do not crush the car.
22:01No, no, no.
22:03I said do not crush the car.
22:05Wait, hold on, sir.
22:08Whoa, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
22:09No, no, no, no.
22:10Hey, what are you doing here?
22:11Is that your car there?
22:13Yeah, I believe that's my car.
22:14I gotta...
22:15Tell me to stop to crush the car.
22:17Look, I need to make sure that's not my car.
22:19Let me see the paperwork.
22:20Hang on a second here.
22:21This is a hard hat area.
22:22Hey!
22:23Hold it!
22:23Hold it!
22:24Hold it, Will!
22:25Hold it!
22:27Are you Mike?
22:28I am Mike.
22:30No, you know...
22:31Hey!
22:32Hey, hold it!
22:33Hold it!
22:34Damn it!
22:35Now look, pal.
22:38No, no, no, no, no.
22:39You look.
22:40That's my car.
22:41You show me a title to say that you can crush that car.
22:45I want to see the title right now.
22:47You got your title?
22:47Otherwise, I got a vandalism right here.
22:49A vandalism?
22:50You gotcha.
22:51No, you look.
22:52No, no.
22:53No, don't get me at you.
22:54This is my place.
22:55You know what?
22:55You're trespassing on my property.
22:57Okay.
22:58Should I call the cops on you?
22:59Absolutely.
22:59Keep a call.
23:00I think I hit him with my car.
23:01Stop the crushing, please!
23:04Come over here.
23:05Let's go check out the car.
23:07Come on.
23:09Go check out the car.
23:11Bring it down.
23:12Here's the title on this car.
23:13Check the plates on it.
23:15Check them in and check the plates.
23:17Who's got the plates on this car?
23:20Over here, darling, now.
23:23Hold it right there.
23:28There's no plates on it.
23:29How do you expect me to find out the title?
23:32This is not my car.
23:33It's not your car?
23:34I have black interior.
23:35You have black?
23:36Yeah.
23:36You guys wasted my time down there.
23:37No, you wasted my time, buddy.
23:39We did you a favor.
23:41Did you a favor?
23:41Because I called you.
23:43I did you a favor because I called you because I thought it was a good car.
23:46That's a 65 right there, buddy.
23:48You betcha.
23:48And so is mine.
23:49It's yours.
23:50But that's not mine.
23:50Well, you know what?
23:51Get the hell out of here.
23:52You can go crush your car.
23:52No, you get the hell out of here before I call the cops.
23:56So is that your vehicle?
23:58No, it's not.
23:58It's not my vehicle.
23:59I'm not going to argue with him.
24:01Okay, whatever he's doing.
24:03All the way down.
24:03Okay, so it's...
24:04It's not mine.
24:05I have black interior in the car.
24:07That's why I asked him to see the title.
24:09Okay.
24:10Okay?
24:10I'm stressed out.
24:11I'm coming down here.
24:12It's my dad's car.
24:13Okay?
24:13I'm not going to sit here and argue with him.
24:15But he has a big attitude.
24:16Mike's really earning his overhauling.
24:19It's day six.
24:20ACS worked through the night to get this car ready for primer.
24:25All the small parts have been jammed.
24:26Those still have to be clear-coated.
24:28Top sides have to be blocked.
24:29We're looking really good if we stay on track so we can get the car back first thing in the
24:33morning.
24:34It's going to be an all-out war getting this car back together.
24:37All right.
24:42Nervous time once again.
24:43We're about to call Mike, and he is not happy.
24:47Hey, dude.
24:47Hey, I just...
24:48You know what?
24:48I just listened to your lesson.
24:49Hold on.
24:50Hey, hey, hey, hey.
24:51Hold on a second.
24:52I had to drive down to Stanton, okay?
24:55Because they said they had my T-Bird down there and they were going to crush it.
24:59What the hell is going on?
25:00Where's my car?
25:02Your car is at Chicane.
25:05I talked to...
25:05Then how did they get...
25:06Then how did they get the paperwork for my car?
25:10It's obviously a paperwork mix-up because we did have another 65 T-Bird that we were dropping
25:16off to be crushed over at Pick Your Part.
25:18Well, I'm getting to a point where I just want it home.
25:20I just...
25:20You know, I...
25:22Rest assured that your car is perfectly fine.
25:25It's at Chicane, and there's no problem.
25:27It's just, like I said, a paperwork mix-up.
25:30I mean, I don't blame the guys at Pick Your Part, but, you know, it got pretty heated because
25:33I...
25:34You know, I didn't want to deal with them.
25:37So, as long as my car is okay, then we're okay.
25:40Yeah.
25:40Sometimes, sometimes people don't know who they're dealing with.
25:42And you know what?
25:43The guy sitting there threatening me and telling me, hey, you know, I'm going to call the police.
25:47You're trespassing.
25:48Well, go ahead.
25:49Right.
25:49And then you find out...
25:51You find out surprises when you do that stuff.
25:53Right.
25:53This is the last strike.
25:55Okay.
25:55I don't want to deal with it no more.
25:57Okay.
25:58All right.
25:58Bye.
25:59Bye.
25:59Bye.
26:01All right.
26:01He is not happy, and he is definitely not happy with you.
26:05One more thing, Mike.
26:06You might think this is the last strike.
26:07I think we here at Overhaul, I'm going to have a couple more tricks up our sleeve.
26:10The body's been painted, and it's time to be putting stuff on it.
26:15It's green.
26:19We're definitely pressed for time right now.
26:21We got the doors and the fenders hung.
26:23We're going to put the hood on it so we can do the fade.
26:26It's going to be down to the wire.
26:27It'll be close, but we'll have it done for you, Mike.
26:33All right.
26:33It's 10.15.
26:34Morning.
26:34Day 7.
26:35I think we're missing something here.
26:40Uh, the car.
26:42The car's still in the booth.
26:43We're going to get it over here and get it assembled and get it back to you, Mike, tomorrow
26:46afternoon.
26:50The car is soon wheeled over, and our insider arrives to see the evolution.
26:54Oh, my God.
26:55All the suspension's going back in.
26:57That's the same car?
27:00Yep.
27:01Yep.
27:01No more roof.
27:09I'm nervous about that one.
27:11Oh, yeah?
27:11I had a nightmare after you told me, okay, we're going to cut the top off, and we're not
27:15putting one back on.
27:16Right.
27:17I dreamt that at the reveal, there was no steering wheel, no tires, no top, and you were saying,
27:25no, no, that's the cool thing to do.
27:27There's your nightmare right now.
27:27And I was like, hey, Chip, way to go.
27:29Oh, my God.
27:30He's going to freak out.
27:34And as she has been all throughout this king-sized overhaul and adventure, our insider Stephanie
27:40is again overwhelmed with emotions.
27:43I just know how much Mike misses his dad.
27:46Yeah.
27:47And I can give him the car, but I can't give him Grandpa back.
27:51That's right.
27:58Assemble to assemble, lads.
28:00Assemble.
28:00And while you're at it, please assemble.
28:05MHT rolls in with new Foose wheels, and right now, this is the only set in existence.
28:10I've still got a lot of work to do, and it's going to be an all-nighter for everybody.
28:20I guesstimate with it on the stand and the tranny all hooked up, I'll be in the car in
28:25less than 25 minutes.
28:26I've got my dad here helping.
28:28He's been doing this about 35 years, and just trying to help Chip out, and we're going to
28:33get it done tonight.
28:33With Rod and his dad that fast, they were made for overhaul.
28:43Two bolts and it's done, though.
28:47Well, we started at 932.
28:49It's 950, so it looks like we put it in about 18 minutes.
28:53That's got to be a record.
28:55I'm pretty sure this thing's going to fire.
28:56I give it about 99% it's going to fire on its first shot.
29:00Working with Chip's amazing.
29:04I've built cars, but what he does is beyond building cars, he builds dreams.
29:11There's so much knowledge there that you hope it trickles down to you, but there's no way
29:17I'm going to get any of it in a week.
29:19We've got about 16 hours before the reveal and a whole lot of work to do.
29:23It's non-stop assembly all through the night, featuring a stubborn deck lid that doesn't
29:28fit properly.
29:29It's a fixture in need of some fixing.
29:38Oh, yeah, the old wiring.
29:40It has to be cleaned up and going back in, along with a little help from the original schematics.
29:45Right, Shane?
29:47Shane?
29:47That's the look of me just realizing it's 4.12 in the morning on D-Day, and I have no
29:56clue what's going on.
29:57That's okay, Shane.
29:58Don't worry.
29:59A few more hours a week, it'll all come back to you.
30:02Or maybe not.
30:06It's 8 a.m.
30:07D-Day.
30:08We've got a lot of little things to finish up today, which add up to a lot of big things.
30:13So, we're going to keep working on it until this afternoon.
30:18Mike will be here, and I'm sure he's going to like what he sees.
30:25I think phone call time.
30:26Chip's going to call him, posing as Joe.
30:28He's going to rile him up a little bit.
30:29Hopefully, he's going to want to come down here and get his car.
30:31I've got your T-Bird here.
30:33Oh, okay.
30:34And I was told that you wanted a quote on this.
30:36Yeah, I needed an estimate on it.
30:38Yeah, I normally don't give estimates because you never really know what you're going to get
30:41into until you get into it.
30:42So, if I give you that quote, I'm going to quote you real high.
30:46Okay.
30:47I would quote you at about $5,200.
30:50$5,200?
30:52Yeah.
30:53You're quoting $5,200.
30:55Are you talking about replacing the engine?
30:58Because I can drop a new engine in it for that.
31:01No, I wasn't replacing the motor.
31:03Well, you know, I'm sorry to waste your time.
31:07I'm going to need to pick that car up or add it to it to my house.
31:11Okay.
31:11So, I'm not in this position to do it right now.
31:14Okay.
31:15I'd like to get the thing out of here today if we can.
31:18Okay.
31:19I've got other paying customers that will take up this space.
31:22Well, I'm going to have to call the guy from Century that towed it.
31:27All right, great.
31:28Somebody got to be there?
31:28I'll give him a call.
31:29They'll get this rust bucket out of here.
31:30And hopefully, you can find somebody to fix it up for you.
31:33Yeah, well, it's not a rust bucket to me, but, you know what I mean?
31:38Yep.
31:40Exciting time on D-Day.
31:41We are about to fire the engine.
31:43Can Rod have it ready to go?
31:45Rod, how close are we?
31:46Ready to go.
31:47Ready to go?
31:47That's a mean spark.
31:55He's under there.
31:58Hey!
31:59So, there you go.
32:11A very important hurdle has just been covered.
32:14The engine starts.
32:15Not only if you can start with the starter button off the battery,
32:17but it also starts with the key in the dash.
32:19Woo!
32:20Because you know how notoriously problematic these dashes on the T-Bird are.
32:24So, it's a great sign that it started with the key.
32:26We're on our way to getting this car finished.
32:28And back to Mike, on schedule.
32:30But, it ain't finished until the interior guys sing.
32:34Ain't that how the saying goes?
32:40Okay.
32:41They finally have their chance to get their hands on the car,
32:44needing to work at the speed of light.
32:54And nothing goes untouched,
32:56down to the last hand-painted screw.
33:02Still running behind,
33:04we bought ourselves some time
33:05and told Mike he's got to show up in person
33:07to sign off for the return of his car.
33:09This is Joe, right here.
33:16Okay, I did that S one for you.
33:18How you doing? Joe.
33:19Nice to meet you.
33:20This is Mike, right?
33:21Yeah.
33:22You got ID?
33:23Jeff.
33:23Jeff.
33:24Yeah.
33:28Yeah, just sign here for the release.
33:31Okay.
33:31So, you're going to fix that rust bucket, huh?
33:36Well, it's not a rust bucket to me,
33:37but, you know, beauty's in the eye of the beholder, I guess.
33:40Yeah.
33:40Yeah.
33:41Where's my car at?
33:42Too tight.
33:43Too tight.
33:44Let me release it now.
33:47Yeah, the crusher.
33:50Don't want that car getting in the crusher.
33:52It would have been worse if my car would have got crushed.
33:55Jeez.
33:56It would have been real bad.
33:57I don't know.
33:57I apologize.
33:58Can we get my car?
33:59I'm ready to go.
34:00Yep.
34:00You want to open up?
34:02Sure.
34:04Okay.
34:05All right.
34:05Hey, Mike, what would happen if we had crushed it
34:08or it had gotten crushed?
34:09I would have been liable.
34:10You know, you've been liable for it.
34:12I mean, I'm glad it didn't, okay?
34:14You guys did me a favor, you know,
34:16when I was down there in Seal Beach.
34:17That's fine.
34:18Jeff.
34:18I mean, how can we make this better for you?
34:21I'll get to do it.
34:22Get me out of here.
34:26Maybe this girl can help.
34:27You're on overhauling.
34:29What?
34:30You're on overhauling.
34:32Hey, Mike.
34:33Chip first.
34:34That's where I know you're from.
34:36I'm the host of the show.
34:37My name's Chris.
34:40Yes, you are.
34:42I just got burned.
34:45I've been burned all week.
34:47Welcome to the overhauling family.
34:48Thank you very much.
34:49You're very welcome.
34:50Thank you very much.
34:50We tried to create your dream car.
34:52Oh, boy.
34:52That's been one of our motivations all week, Mike,
34:54is to keep you the car that you and your pop hopefully would have built
34:57had you had it on the new time and on the new budget.
34:59I wish he was here to see it.
35:01I don't deserve it, guys.
35:02No, we're sure you did.
35:03I'm just another guy, so.
35:05We're sure you did.
35:05He was here with us all week.
35:06Yeah.
35:06That means more than anything to me right there.
35:09Thanks, guys.
35:10Are you ready to go see your car, man?
35:11I'm ready.
35:12Awesome.
35:13He wants to kill me.
35:14He's hugging me, but he wants to kill me.
35:16Oh, Jesus.
35:20Ready for your life to change, Mike?
35:22I hope so.
35:22Go ahead, man.
35:23Go ahead, man.
35:24Go ahead, man.
35:24Go ahead, man.
35:25Go ahead, man.
35:26Go ahead, man.
35:26Go ahead, man.
35:27Go ahead.
35:28Go ahead, man.
35:29Whoa.
35:29Oh, God.
35:32Oh, Hopsworth go crazy over this.
35:36Green's his favorite color.
35:38Yeah.
35:38Unbelievable.
35:39No way.
35:44No way, no way, that's really my, yes, that's perfection, that is perfection, it's just,
35:59it's unbelievable, what do you think of that Pop, I know he can see this, I can feel him
36:08in the room right now, I really can.
36:14Michael's 65 has entered a new phase of life, and it took one tough build to make it happen.
36:23See, there were a few hours there when we were pretty much sure all our time was simply
36:28slipping right through our fingers.
36:31We did a one-off set of wheels for it, the only ones like it.
36:35There's no door handles on it, oh, man.
36:39There's no doubt in my mind this is what my father envisioned.
36:46And now it's time for Mike to meet those guys who worked on the car while our pranks were
36:50working on him.
36:51It's a tale of two teams.
36:53While my team of tricksters were busy making our mark matter, Foose and this team were busy
36:57making his car cooler.
36:59For Mike, this is still an emotional roller coaster.
37:14He's been angry this week, now he's overjoyed and emotional.
37:18But the real bottom line is that his 65 is beyond complete.
37:22It's a ride ready to roar, from its restyled form to its reworked engine compartment.
37:29It's pretty much stocked, same engine, we had it rebuilt.
37:42No way.
37:44Okay, Mike, you've heard it.
37:46Now it's time to sit in it.
37:48I'm afraid to.
37:52Take it for a spin.
37:53I'll actually need to be here.
38:02I'd be there.
38:05It's beyond incredible.
38:07What do you say to guys that don't even know you and they put this type of work into something?
38:11I mean, this is a piece of art.
38:13That's what it is.
38:14This finished stunner is what all cool Thunderbirds strive to be.
38:20And a lot of that is because Chip forced the bird to go topless, so it can now truly take flight.
38:26The return of his car gave the man the shock of his life.
38:29And now, not only does he know he's been overhauled, he also knows a week's worth of nightmarish runaround has been worth it.
38:36Deepest part of my heart, guys, I mean it.
38:42You know, I wish my pops was here, man.
38:51Oh, she's here.
38:58Thanks.
39:02He just, you're overwhelmed.
39:04He'll live it through me.
39:11Sorry about that.
39:14Just to see his dream come true, you know.
39:17The one thing that brought us, always brought us close was, you know, his love of cars and wanting to show me.
39:22And he had some big dreams and didn't get to see him through, but I get to see him, being to see him through my eyes.
39:28So, it's a beautiful thing.
39:29It's great.
39:30Sounds like it's going to take some getting used to.
39:35I mean, I can't believe this is going to be in my garage.
39:37So, when I, every time I come, I mean, I'm going to remember every one of you and what you've done and, I mean, really.
39:43Remember us if you ever pull us over.
39:47You heard that, Lieutenant.
39:50If you get a lot of warnings, you know why.
39:52And remember, this is a deputy sheriff with eight children.
39:57It's a pack of kids Mike loves to disguise.
39:59But somehow, I don't think this is going to be the car they'll be borrowing when they want to step out on a Friday night.
40:05In fact, there's going to be enough commotion just taking turns to ride in the ride.
40:09Because not one of them is going to want to miss out on this.
40:13It's beautiful, every detail of it.
40:17And I don't deserve it.
40:18I know my father deserves it, but I don't deserve it.
40:22The person who's responsible for it all.
40:28I love you, too.
40:30You are amazing, woman.
40:33Thanks.
40:34Can you say it again?
40:36Yes, I can.
40:37You are amazing.
40:38Hey, Pops, we've both been overhauled.
40:43I hope you like it.
40:45I really do.
40:47Okay, Coppa, time to come clean.
40:49I'm Deputy Sheriff Mike, and I've just been overhauled.
41:02Chip often says it, and man, is it ever true.
41:06We don't just build cars here.
41:07We build memories, and we build friendships.
41:11And now that Mike's whole family has met our whole family, this is one great party.
41:18It's a party that never ends, where the owner gets tricked, and the car gets tricked out.
41:23And just ask Mike.
41:24Next time, it could be your party.
41:26Right here on Overhauling.
41:37I mean, how are we going to be your party?
41:37Welcome back.
41:38We'll be home.
41:39I'm going to walk this side first, and see if I can't really take 2-to-throw with my destiny now.
41:41I mean, she'll be on the boat.
41:41Hey, there's no way to catch this.
41:42Holy Shadow.
41:43Okay, close Firming.
41:44I think we've worked!
41:44We'll get that guy inordinator work.
41:45I think that's probably the way, Alex.
41:45Go to the white ball.
41:46I think he'll be Hotel足.
41:46Okay.
41:47Here he goes, let's inspect hisife and what's in place.
41:48So we have to thank him?
41:49Oh, come home.
41:51I take this 40 minutes before.
41:53and we can't, these people do
42:07You
