00:00That's me, Chris Jacobs, always on the job.
00:10And that's my big brain buddy, Chip Foose.
00:13And on today's overhauling, Tyson's the mark with one sad 56 Bel Air.
00:17We're hiding it at our hideout known as Street Concepts.
00:20Tyson's mom, Terry, is our insider.
00:23She's going to keep the front up for seven days as we build a Bel Air that our mark can only imagine.
00:27Getting the ride ready for our reveal, thanks to Chip and his crew of car-building heavyweights.
00:32While we fool up Tyson and cool up his car.
00:35And it all begins in a nanosecond when we finagle a 56.
00:39Here, where the owner gets tricked and the car gets tricked out.
00:42All happening now on Overhauling.
00:48I am gasoline.
00:52That's right.
00:53I am gasoline.
00:57Keep track.
01:11Tyson is our Bel Air owning mark.
01:13Terry is his mom and our insider.
01:16Brother-in-law Johnny is also on the inside.
01:21Tyson teaches surfing.
01:23We set up a lesson.
01:24But, uh, for some reason, we can't make it.
01:26Hey, how's it going, John?
01:27Um, it's Tyson.
01:28I'm just down here at, um, Third Point.
01:31Yeah, just seeing if you guys are still coming.
01:33So, just give me a call when you get a chance.
01:35Ah, the poor kid.
01:36His students seem to be horribly late.
01:39Why?
01:39Why?
01:40Why?
01:42Tyson starts getting the equipment ready and begins wondering.
01:45Wondering where they could be.
01:48This is Team Scallywag, and we're about to go GAC Tyson's 56 Bel Air.
01:52Are you guys ready?
01:53We're ready.
01:54Man, what a crew.
01:56Okay, here's Tyson's house.
01:57And while he's stranded off on the beach, we pull up and grab the goods.
02:01Let's do it.
02:03Foose wastes no time checking out the car.
02:05That goes on as the rest of us get the other parts that are scattered around the property.
02:10Chip keeps sneaking peeks with a quick inspection of the interior.
02:17Clueless neighbors.
02:17Cue the tow truck, because it's time to be getting out of here.
02:23We got neighbors.
02:25We got lots and lots of neighbors.
02:27We got to snake this car fast, because the neighbors are figuring we're up to no good.
02:32You know, one day, Tyson's going to appreciate this.
02:34For now, he leaves a message.
02:36Hey, what's up, John?
02:38It's Tyson.
02:39Yeah, I was going to see you guys didn't see you, so I'm just going to go ahead and take
02:42off.
02:43But if you want to call, reschedule anytime, and hopefully it hurts from you.
02:47Bye.
02:48Bye.
02:48Bye.
02:51Well, everyone was stoked to do a 56 Bel Air, until they saw this one.
02:58Come on, guys.
02:59A little enthusiasm, huh?
03:01Now, this is seven days?
03:02I can't remember to add it to me.
03:0418, come on, man.
03:05Let's take it apart.
03:06Check it out.
03:07See what's left.
03:08People, people, why the long faces?
03:12Sean, my brother, what do you think?
03:14I think it's a pile of poop.
03:19Well, we can use the front fenders and the hood and some of the pieces, but we're missing
03:23so many pieces that we'd have to find a main shell just to cut out of.
03:26All the sheet metal and everything is torn up, and somebody that didn't know what they
03:31were doing tried to do what they thought they might know how to do, but they didn't know
03:34what they were doing was not what they should be doing, so they didn't do what they needed
03:38to do.
03:39On the upside, it does start.
03:41But continuing on the downside, even a top builder like Sam Foose seems discouraged.
03:46Oh, boy.
03:47This is a challenge of challenges.
03:49Woo!
03:50Inside the shop, the cracks keep coming.
03:56I like the angular design.
03:58You like the angles they are?
03:59Okay.
03:59Every panel's at a different angle from the other.
04:02Hey, no turning back now, right, Chip?
04:05Let's let the games begin.
04:07And leading the games, team captain Chip Foose.
04:10Okay, it's a mess.
04:20A big honking mess.
04:22It's our occasional dilemma.
04:23How far do we go to save a guy from his own car?
04:26Yeah, this is the ride that means a lot to you, but you want a dream car, not a junk car.
04:30It's a tough one, real tough.
04:40One of the major problems is when you have a top that's loose, and you don't even have
05:02the material here that you need, there's really nothing to work with.
05:06This is more than a week's work.
05:08So we rip it apart to see what can be salvaged and weigh all the options.
05:18This thing's just trashed, man.
05:20I mean, it's amazing how bad a shape this car is in.
05:24I'm glad we're taking it apart because it's going to fall apart.
05:27This car is unsalvageable.
05:32PVC piping that he also bought at Home Depot.
05:35That's a fuel ladder.
05:36The only option is to get a donor car where we can at least use just a shell and clean
05:41up some of the old parts that he had and put it back on to make a complete car.
05:44It's the worst build that I've been on.
05:47The floor pan is not attached to the frame.
05:50The back half of the car was twisted, and the chassis is also twisted, so we've got some big problems.
05:58The Fooses and Roger hunt around, soon coming up with a possible candidate.
06:02We're going to go out and look at one, see if it's something we can use.
06:06We've got about an hour and a half drive to get to it.
06:08There aren't any here in the local Orange County area to go look at, so we've got to go out past Redlands to look at a car.
06:14So it'll be at least three hours before we can possibly get back here with a car.
06:20All right, well, there you go, the front clip.
06:22Possibly the only usable part of this car.
06:24Uh, don't quote me on that.
06:33So our trio makes the long trek out to get a gander at car number two.
06:41Well, the car's got a lot of rot in it, but at least it's all here and it's together, which makes it a little better off than Tyson's car.
06:48What I'd like to do is get it back, get it torn apart, get it to the bead blaster, see what we've got left.
06:55I know that the top is junk, but I've got a line on another top.
06:59We may have that tomorrow.
07:00We can weld that into the car, and then we've got a complete car.
07:03It's a gamble Chip's taking, not really knowing what's here until it's blasting.
07:09Well, what we're getting on overhauling is, uh, shall we say, one heck of a challenge.
07:14You really have to keep your head in gear and not make mistakes, because if you make mistakes,
07:19that could set you back for a heck of a lot more time than it took you to make a mistake.
07:23Back at Street Concepts...
07:25How come they're all missing taillights? I don't get this!
07:29What I'm thinking is I want to close my eyes and start them running over.
07:34At least it's in one piece and not torn apart in two.
07:36It's going to have to work, rusty or not.
07:38Now it's about salvaging car two.
07:42But with a lot of bolts that won't come off, this ride is also a mess.
07:47I think it's papier-mâché.
07:49It's been in there since 1956.
07:52Been sitting in the desert.
07:54Just, uh, rotting away.
07:57It's late on day one, and so far today, we've only been dismantling.
08:00The big question before us is the only question.
08:03Can we save either car?
08:04I don't know. I mean, both cars are pretty bad.
08:08We're just going to try to find the one that's not worse than the other.
08:16Tyson's car has been stolen, so he's called the detective line twice.
08:20I'm going to call him back as Detective Rick Stiegel and see if I can't help him out.
08:25Hello?
08:26You called me earlier about a stolen vehicle?
08:28Yes, apparently they went through the garage, too.
08:32They just stole the back seat.
08:35There was a trunk lid stolen.
08:38The back window was stolen.
08:39The gas tank was stolen.
08:40Pretty much every single thing that I had for the car is stolen.
08:44Was the garage open?
08:47I don't think so, but the keypad for the garage door was open maps.
08:52You didn't touch that, did you?
08:53No.
08:54Okay, good, because I might be able to pull some prints off of that.
08:56You were actually not at home when the theft occurred?
08:59No.
08:59I was supposed to meet someone to do a surf lesson.
09:02I grew up here surf camp.
09:02You said that you were supposed to have a surf lesson.
09:05I was supposed to have, yeah.
09:06The person who scheduled a flight never showed up.
09:09What's that person's name?
09:11His name was John Little.
09:13John Little, because that sounds like it might have been set up.
09:16I want to jump on this one lead that we have with John Little right now,
09:20and I will also put an APB out with the auto theft detectives.
09:24Cool, thank you very much.
09:25You got it, Tess.
09:25He does watch overhaul, so we've got to be very, very careful with this kid.
09:29But this John Little guy is going down in flames and gray primer.
09:35But we'll keep a brave face as our insider arrives, Tyson's mom, Terry.
09:41Oh, my gosh.
09:44Gosh.
09:45And how well did you know the car?
09:47I knew it really good.
09:48I rode in it, yeah.
09:49Yeah, you rode in it?
09:49Yeah, yeah, he gave me rides in it.
09:51And how much of the work that's done on this car had he done?
09:56He was attempting to put on the back clip,
09:59and he had done a few things with the engine a little bit here and there,
10:02but mostly it was the back.
10:04Yeah.
10:04Yeah, it was the body work.
10:05Oh, my gosh.
10:06Well, we tore into it, and it's somebody had spliced in the floor, which I imagined is Tyson.
10:15Yeah, it's gross.
10:16And it's...
10:17Body shop 101.
10:18Yeah, and it was pretty bad.
10:21Right.
10:21Chip's gently trying to make Terry understand what we're up against here.
10:25And we're tearing this car apart now.
10:27Oh, my gosh.
10:29And we're going to use the main body shelf from this car
10:32and take the best of both cars to build one car for them.
10:35Oh, my gosh.
10:38And that's a Chevy 56?
10:40Same car.
10:40Oh, my gosh.
10:41So tell me a little bit about Tyson.
10:43Tyson is a hard worker.
10:45He's a really hard worker.
10:47He's been without a dad since he's been just before seven, age seven.
10:51And he's had four older sisters and me.
10:53But he's had to teach himself everything else mechanical.
10:57He's a really, really good athlete.
10:59Competitive surfer.
11:01He usually surfs every day.
11:03He loves hot rod cars.
11:06He likes anything that's not stock.
11:09Now, I heard silver and white was...
11:12That's what he's been talking about for a while.
11:15I'll tell you something.
11:16He likes just about everything that you do on the show.
11:18Uh-oh.
11:19There's freedom.
11:20This is so exciting.
11:22I can't stand this.
11:23It's so exciting.
11:24I can't stand it.
11:25Hold on for new plants.
11:26As you can see, there is one Bel Air, two Bel Airs, and now we're about to go out and
11:32get a third Bel Air.
11:33Yes.
11:34What are we going to do with him?
11:35Actually, we got Tyson's car.
11:37That's the original one over there.
11:38And the car is actually not even worth trying to save.
11:41So we went and found another car, and it's still not a real good car.
11:44So we're actually looking for another car to get a top so we can cut all the pillars and
11:49drop another top on.
11:51But car three is hours away, so we're losing another day, putting us two days behind.
11:55And that math isn't the only concern.
11:58My biggest concern is I don't want these guys getting worn out on a car we're not even going
12:02to use.
12:03I don't think we're even going to use the body.
12:04So Chip and I ride out to Yucaipa, where we meet up with Bel Air number three.
12:11The car's been well kept for 28 years, and so far, it's the best one yet.
12:16This is a real good car.
12:19From what we're doing, it's perfect.
12:22All right, so it looks like we've found our third Bel Air, and actually this one is in
12:26the best shape of all three of them.
12:28The metal on this car is great.
12:29The frame is straight, which is good, and the most important thing also is the pillars
12:34are in real good shape.
12:35Deck lid is nice and straight.
12:37The hood is nice and straight.
12:40It's evening of day two right now.
12:42Bel Air's going to be back down in Huntington in a couple hours.
12:45The A-team will get on it, get the metal work done.
12:47We'll be in the paint shop tomorrow morning.
12:49And finally, a pleased A-team.
12:53How many shots of this are we going to pay?
12:55I wish we could have found this car yesterday.
12:57We really ought to go out and get one more, right?
12:59It's a lot better shape than the two other cars we had.
13:07So with the other two cars and this one, I'm sure we can make one fine ride for Tyson.
13:11So we'll just keep scrambling and get it over to Lanzini, hopefully tomorrow afternoon.
13:18All right, everybody, these are the insiders, Lindsey and Johnny.
13:21This is his brother-in-law.
13:23This is his sister.
13:25Wow.
13:27We've been working very hard today.
13:28Now, you might notice there are three of them, actually.
13:31Three of them.
13:32The original one is the far one.
13:33And this is the one we just got now.
13:35Brother-in-law, Johnny, is a firefighter who's excited to meet Chip Foose and eager to lend
13:40a helping hand when needed.
13:41This is Lindsey, his sister.
13:42Hi, I'm Lindsey.
13:43Nice to meet you.
13:43Nice to meet you.
13:44Awesome.
13:45Johnny brought a surfboard by.
13:46Great.
13:47For you to measure.
13:48Perfect.
13:48Kind of check the size for how he can stash his board on his way to the beach.
13:52So he'll probably want that.
13:54And room for his lady, if he ever gets one.
13:56There we go.
13:57So how is he doing now?
13:59We talked about all this stuff that he wished that he would have the opportunity to do one
14:02day again.
14:03And he brought it up.
14:03Yeah, he's no player.
14:04Yeah, we talk about that kind of stuff all the time.
14:06And he's like, oh, I just enrolled in class.
14:09And, you know, that back quarter panel took one semester of school, you know.
14:14And he has his new class starting in two weeks.
14:16Totally back and forth.
14:16Was he in the special ed program?
14:18Yeah.
14:19With how slow he's going.
14:21He was a little late in that one.
14:22He got held back in that class, too.
14:23It's rough and chewy when we got held back from us.
14:26Tyson, your car, from what it was, it came a long way.
14:29But there's no way you're going to be able to do what they're going to do to it.
14:31So when you watch this, enjoy.
14:34Learn how to do it so we can do it on your next car.
14:37So metal work now goes into the best of the bunch.
14:40Car 3.
14:46And hours later, there is finally, finally, some real progress.
14:5112.30 a.m.
14:52It's day 3 now.
14:53And we have three cars.
14:55But we have the car that we're finally going to finish for Tyson.
14:58And we're trying to get all the metal work finished so we can get over to Lanzini's in
15:01the morning, get some paint on the car, get back here and assemble it.
15:08They're zipping to get the body panels to line up just right.
15:11And soon, we're ready to roll.
15:12Right out of Street Concepts and over to that oasis of body and paint known as Lanzini's.
15:17The car's handed over to a team of body work pros.
15:25And obviously, not a moment too soon.
15:28The car is finally here at Lanzini's.
15:30They've started all the, shall we say, resurfacing.
15:33And I would think by early morning, we'll have some primer on it, start blocking it, probably
15:39primer it one more time, sand it before we can start putting color on.
15:43Here's Chip at his favorite hobby.
15:54So, Foose, tell us about how it all began.
15:58Actually, I've been drawing since I was about three years old.
16:00Most people don't know it, but my father's a very talented artist.
16:03I used to sit next to him and copy whatever he was drawing.
16:06Every Christmas and birthday and whatnot, my father gave me art supplies.
16:10So, I got to just sit around and draw.
16:12It's just something that I was always passionate about.
16:15Well, his passion is the car world's game.
16:17And to be even more specific at the moment, Tyson's game.
16:22It's a combination of white, silver, and cool blue surfing flames coming together for the design.
16:28And they're all going on a project that had to be one of the most unique starts in overhauling history.
16:35Well, there you go, Tyson.
16:37That's your final design on your car.
16:38Based on the information that I got from the insiders.
16:42And tomorrow, we'll be putting the color on.
16:48All right, we're at Surf City Custom Upholstery.
16:51The crew and the gear are ready.
16:53Awaiting that forthcoming Foose design to work with.
16:56And once it's finished...
16:57But this is perfect for it.
16:58I did a...
16:59The white that's going on the car is just lighter than this.
17:02Mm-hmm.
17:03It was basically your theme.
17:04This is a perfect map to where I want my destination is going to be.
17:08Cool.
17:11It's night four.
17:12We're going to have ourselves a little car tube.
17:14Of course, not without the supervision of a real firefighter.
17:18I'm here with our insider, Johnny.
17:20Yeah, I'm going to teach Chris a little about firefighting.
17:23All right, Johnny, you ready?
17:25Ready.
17:25Let's light it up.
17:26Never be.
17:28It's a sure way to keep a mark from ever figuring he's being overhauled.
17:32And it's a rare build when we can pull such a prank.
17:35We are barbecuing some of Tyson's car parts.
17:39And I learned some firefighting from Johnny.
17:44All right, we're ready to go.
17:46The car barbecue is a complete success.
17:48Now, tomorrow, we'll give this car back to Tyson all charred up.
17:51He's going to be extremely bummed out.
17:53But three days after that, he's going to be extremely happy.
17:57It's day five.
17:58We had ourselves a nice little car-beque last night.
18:00And as you can see, it was a roaring success.
18:03Ha, ha, ha, ha.
18:04And now we're going to give the car back to Tyson a few days early.
18:06But not quite in the condition you're used to seeing here on overhauling.
18:09And I don't think Tyson's going to be too happy to get his car back like this.
18:12So let's call him up.
18:13Let him know to come pick it up.
18:14As law enforcement, we told Tyson we found his car.
18:19He quickly arrives.
18:21All right, he just pulled up.
18:24Johnny's driving him up.
18:26You can kind of see the reaction on his face.
18:27Can't believe it.
18:32Good, are you Tyson?
18:33Yeah, I'm Tyson.
18:34Detective Johnson.
18:37Is that your car?
18:39Yes, sir, that would be my car.
18:41How do you know it's your car?
18:42Tyson points out the car pieces he recognizes.
18:50He's exchanging info with our cop, just as prankster AJ arrives with her phony college news crew.
18:56I don't know what they're doing.
18:59It's for the college news.
19:00I'm Nicole Walker reporting live for PSN, where this morning officials discovered a vehicle burnt and charred far beyond recognition.
19:09The only person to identify it?
19:11Possibly the owner.
19:12Is this a case of vandalism, or was this an act of domestic terrorism?
19:17How do you know this is your car?
19:19Well, I can tell by the paint job and the rear clip.
19:21How do you feel about this?
19:23I think it sucks.
19:24You know, that was my car.
19:25That was probably one of the only cool things I owned.
19:27And now look at it, it's in pieces.
19:29Did it run before it was vandalized?
19:32Yeah, it definitely ran.
19:33Not great, but it definitely ran.
19:34I could drive it.
19:35Okay, you heard it.
19:37Vandalism?
19:37Domestic terrorism?
19:39Or the beginning of an apocalyptic school year?
19:41Only time will tell.
19:42With the interview over, Tyson goes back to looking at his smoldering 56, while that news crew grabs some B-roll.
19:50Chevy?
19:52We weren't able to identify the car because they cut the bend out of it also.
19:56So you're sure this is your car?
19:58He's so bummed out.
19:59He's totally buying it.
20:01You just look at his face, he just can't believe it, man.
20:03He's totally, totally bummed.
20:05He's going to turn that frown upside down in only three days.
20:09So where would you like the car towed to?
20:12I have no idea.
20:14Still in a state of shock and reeling with utter disbelief, he decides to have the car towed back to his house.
20:21You want to give him a hand putting that in there?
20:23I don't know if you want to save it.
20:25Save what?
20:26Charcoal rust?
20:29And there she goes on the lift, with Tyson looking none too happy, especially as he retrieves one last thing from his car.
20:38What was that?
20:39Pretty gas thing.
20:40Oh, yeah, his trusty thingamajig fuel line.
20:44All right, Detective Stegall, we'll get a hold of you at the party tomorrow.
20:47Yeah, you too.
20:48Take care.
20:51Well, little does he know, the coolest thing he owned is now getting a whole lot cooler.
20:56Meanwhile, the candle burns at both ends here at Lanzini's.
21:01But there is progress, as the last of the sanding finally gets underway.
21:08Primed it last night for the second time.
21:11We're sanding right now with 220 and long block.
21:14And then we're going to go back over it, and it'll be paint time.
21:16So as Mitch Lanzini organizes that part of the project, Chip is super excited to be getting something of a head start on those cool blue hot rod flames of his.
21:26Soon the time finally arrives.
21:28The team masks off the car, because it'll be rolling across the way for a paint job and a half.
21:33All right, it's quarter after seven, day five.
21:36The car's going in the booth.
21:37Just start putting some color on it.
21:47Well, Mitch is in, putting the white on.
21:49As soon as he's done with that, we're going to bring it out here, and I'm going to burn this one myself.
21:52Oh, so what's going to happen?
21:53You're going to lay the graphics out?
21:54We'll get the graphics on, pull it back in, get the silver on, then we can clear this thing and get back over to Street Concepts tomorrow.
22:00Meanwhile, many miles away, Tyson and parts of his rusted-up, burnt-up car are finally back at home.
22:12He unloads the pile and wishes it a sweet good night, bed covering and all.
22:21It's white, silver, and blue flames on the sides.
22:25As we've seen with younger Marks, Chip delivers sophistication that seems to say,
22:29Yeah, you talk certain colors and over-the-top graphics now, but trust me, when you're driving this classy car next year, you'll be thank you.
22:41Between the two tones and the blue flames, the tape on this ride needs to be exact, and it's applied by a guy who we think is tops,
22:49but he says he's getting better as time marches on.
22:52Something that my father taught me early on will stay with me forever, and that is what you learn after you know it all that counts.
23:04So, yeah, you still learn every day.
23:06And as soon as you shut your mind off to it, then you're not going to grow.
23:10And I'd fix them and customize them and sell them.
23:12Time for double the paint tricks.
23:17Chip sprays the blue flame graphic while Mitch hits the body panels with silver that's worthy of a holiday.
23:23Every time you paint a car, it's like Christmas when you unwrap it.
23:27You don't know what's inside the package when you open it,
23:30and you don't know what this is going to look like until you uncover it.
23:34Well, something tells me that this is going to be an absolute stunner.
23:38It's presently clear coat times three.
23:46After that, it'll be a Chevy saying ciao to the great Lanzini, a man who can now start his day.
23:53That's three coats of clear.
23:55He's finally finished.
23:56It's 8 o'clock in the morning.
23:58I'm going to go home and take my little boy to school.
24:02And that reborn Bel Air body is loaded onto the tow truck,
24:05ready to be returned to our eagerly waiting AT.
24:09All right, it's 1 o'clock, day 6.
24:11Car's all painted.
24:12Ready to go back to Street Concepts.
24:14Mitch, why don't you get some sleep?
24:16Why don't you do the same?
24:17Thanks.
24:18All right.
24:18I'm just going to let them take me home.
24:20All right, man.
24:20Well, drop me off at the end of the street, would you?
24:23So it's a ride up the street for Mitch and Chip,
24:25followed by our fourth delivery.
24:27Putting it on the frames.
24:29Flaming.
24:30Flaming.
24:30What do you think?
24:31Well, they've changed their tune now.
24:33Oh, gorgeous looking, as usual.
24:38Brother-in-law Johnny visits to see the ride
24:40and give us an update on Tyson.
24:42Oh, sweet.
24:44That's going to be looking good.
24:45So he's still bumming hard?
24:47Totally bummed.
24:48He was being cool with me, trying to be like,
24:50yeah, you know, it's a hit.
24:51And he was kind of like trying to keep a smile.
24:54Yeah.
24:54You know, he's putting on a face.
24:55And that's him.
24:56You know, he's a tough guy at heart.
24:58He's trying to be in there, but, you know,
24:59he won't show you how he really feels.
25:02So, yeah, the plan was the one good fender that got left.
25:06I told him that he can start patching it up on this fender.
25:09He's going to buff it out.
25:10And he really wanted to get it off soon and start cleaning it
25:13because he wanted it up in his garage.
25:16In this garage, there's work to do.
25:18So John sticks around to help.
25:19Putting jealousy aside.
25:21I'm pretty excited for him.
25:22It's going to be a nice car for him.
25:24I'm sure he's going to love it.
25:25So I'll get this fired up and taking it down PCH.
25:28Like, you know, he's going to.
25:29First, we have to make it a little more complete.
25:33All right, we're getting ready to lower the body onto the frame.
25:36When we went to paint, we had the other frame on it.
25:38So this is our brand-new powder-coated frame.
25:40So we shouldn't have any problems.
25:41It shouldn't fit right on there, we hope.
25:43We hope as we cross our fingers and lower it onto its business.
25:48Those ones are going to go out.
25:51Got to go back, yeah.
25:52How you looking?
25:53Keep coming down.
25:55Okay, come on now.
25:56What's that machine?
25:57Meat and ice cream.
25:58Isn't that how everybody puts a body on a car?
26:04Oh, man.
26:05It seems like this union is a bit more tricky than first reported.
26:09We put in a different rear suspension,
26:10and the shock mount is hitting the body,
26:14so we just got to clearance it to be fine.
26:16This will hardly be the first car body
26:18that pro builder Sam Foose has convinced
26:20in his own show-em-who's-boss kind of fashion.
26:23All right.
26:24The pounding didn't solve it, and as it's lowered again,
26:36there's another problem.
26:37The floor comes down, and it's just touching.
26:43So if you ever had to change the shock,
26:46you'd be totally shot down because you couldn't get the bolt out.
26:49So what I'm saying is cut a hole in the floor
26:51and make an inspection plate that's slightly cupped
26:54so we've got our clearance,
26:55and also you'll be able to pull the bolt.
26:56He's designed a lot of different things
26:58in his many decades around the shop,
27:00so when Sam Foose says cut, let's get cutting.
27:06And soon it's cut.
27:09Time for the event.
27:11We're going to marry these two.
27:12Three quarters.
27:13Okay, this one's sitting.
27:15Well, fine.
27:15We're right on the pad.
27:16They did it, but they forgot about somebody.
27:20I love me.
27:21Look.
27:23Look at me.
27:24Enter our insiders.
27:32Oh.
27:32Oh, my gosh.
27:33Oh, my gosh.
27:34That is not the same car.
27:37Oh.
27:38It looks so different.
27:39He is going to love that.
27:41He is going to scream.
27:42Oh, my gosh.
27:43Those colors are so awesome.
27:44I love those colors.
27:45Oh, I see.
27:47Look at that engine.
27:47Oh, my goodness.
27:49Oh, my gosh.
27:49Brand new engine and transmission.
27:51Oh, that is just beautiful.
27:54That is so great.
27:54He's going to love it.
27:55It's going to be perfect.
27:56And that's what he said all along, silver and white.
27:59You know, he deserves it.
28:01This is going to be amazing.
28:02So is he pretty down right now?
28:04Yeah.
28:05For Tyson, it was a loss of a dream, you know?
28:08It's hard for us to see him hurt so bad.
28:10Oh, I bet.
28:10But at the same time, we know how excited he's going to be.
28:12Yeah.
28:13He's going to be shocked.
28:14I can see Tyson jumping up and down and just screaming.
28:18This is just amazing.
28:20I can hardly believe how much they've done.
28:23Oh, my gosh.
28:27We're going to make one last prank phone call to Tyson and let him know how sorry we are
28:32that his car was vandalized and that we'll be out there tomorrow to take some samples,
28:36gather some evidence, hopefully catch those guys who did this.
28:39Hello?
28:40Tyson.
28:41Yes?
28:42This is Detective Stiegel calling.
28:43Yeah, Detective Stiegel.
28:44How are you?
28:45Pretty good.
28:46How are you doing?
28:47You sound better than I thought you would.
28:49Um, well, uh, yeah, I was pretty, um, pretty distraught yesterday.
28:55Feeling a little better today, though, so.
28:57Good.
28:58Well, I just want to tell you, uh, first of all, how sorry I am.
29:01I, when, when I received a call from dispatch that we had found your vehicle, I didn't realize
29:05that it had been vandalized at all.
29:07Yeah, it was.
29:08And then, yeah, then when I was told it was vandalized, I, I finally saw the photos just
29:12about an hour ago and, uh, had no idea it was that vandalized.
29:16I apologize.
29:17All right.
29:18No problem.
29:18No problem.
29:19I'm still considering this an open case, and, uh, I'm, I'm wondering if you're going
29:24to be available tomorrow so I can finally come out and take a look at the car and, and
29:27possibly get some fingerprints off of the keypad.
29:30Yeah, definitely.
29:31You're going to be around tomorrow, then?
29:33Yeah, I'll be around.
29:34Tyson, you're in the home stretch, baby.
29:36Hang loose.
29:38Afternoon of day seven.
29:39We're about to fire the engine.
29:41Papa Jim, take it away.
29:43I'm going to hook the ground up.
29:46Push this buck.
29:46Look at what happens.
29:47Why do I know?
29:48I love cars.
29:49It's a very good question because there isn't really a love for cars.
29:53It's, uh, it's more of a respect for, uh, the power they can produce.
29:59And it depends on what type of power you want to produce.
30:02Down a quarter mile, you want a certain engine style.
30:05Around a track, you want a certain engine style.
30:07So, and, and, and not to mention the, uh, uh, engineering behind each one.
30:12Sounds good.
30:28Sounds healthy.
30:29These guys did a good job.
30:31Turned on the first try.
30:32Good job.
30:33All right, it's 830 in the evening, day seven.
30:38We got a long night ahead of us.
30:39We got to finish the brakes.
30:40We got exhaust.
30:41We got interior.
30:42Dennis will be here in the morning to pinstripe.
30:44We still got to fit the hood, all the grill, the headlights, the taillights, a lot of work
30:49ahead of us.
30:49So, uh, a few days come off.
30:55Well, as the few remaining hours quickly fly by, the A-Team makes a whole lot of progress
30:59on Tyson's 56 Chevy Bel Air.
31:02It's all coming together in a big way, including the sound system from Alan Edds.
31:06This is a sub for a real man right here.
31:08Dual voice coil, two ohms, magnet that you can't beat.
31:12Huge.
31:13Put out a ton of power enough to rattle the teeth out of your head.
31:15Got an Alpine MP3 player right here, in-dash CD receivers, slash AM, FM radio.
31:26It's all set and ready to go.
31:28All right, it's 2 o'clock in the morning.
31:29It's the infamous D-Day, as they call it.
31:31It means the car gets delivered today.
31:33Less than 14 hours, Tyson, this car will be yours.
31:36All right, D-Day is here, and it's all about finishing and setting up for the big reveal
31:40because we are getting close to the time where we're giving Tyson back the Bel Air of his dreams.
31:45As it often is on D-Day, the interior guys had to wait their turn,
31:54and thanks to Surf City, it's an interior worth waiting for.
32:04It was a real challenge, but everything came out exactly the way Chip designed it,
32:09and we're really, really proud of the work here.
32:12It's looking good.
32:18Al just came in with the wheels.
32:21Beautiful wheels.
32:22Setting up the car right now.
32:23Should be able to put it on the floor in about five minutes,
32:26get everything finalized, and everything should be good.
32:28It's so hot here.
32:30Ah.
32:33Okay, we're down to the finishing touches, and that's all we have time for,
32:37because we got us a prank to get to.
32:45All right, Tyson, it's D-Day.
32:47You are?
32:48Detective Brock.
32:48I am Detective Stiegel.
32:49We're with the Auto Theft Task Force.
32:51We're about to head over to Tyson's house and take some fingerprints and some burn evidence,
32:55and then we'll let the cat out of the bag, and then, Tyson, your life changes.
32:59Here we go.
33:00We know what we've put him through, and we know what his car has put us through.
33:04Some of his ride was so rusty, all we could do is use it as prank material and send it back to him.
33:09A week ago, we posed as crooks and came to this very place.
33:13Today, we're The Law, here to get some evidence, here to get some prints,
33:17and ultimately, here to get some guy into the mood swing of his life,
33:21taking him from vandalized depression into custom car heavy.
33:26Brock, stay over there.
33:27Just start getting some Polaroids.
33:29Time to begin the interrogation.
33:43Tyson?
33:44Yes.
33:44Officer Stiegel?
33:45How are you doing?
33:46Is this a car right here?
33:47Yeah.
33:47Can we see it?
33:52Say you got it back on Sunday?
33:54Yep.
33:55Tyson watches the show, so Foos is incognito.
33:59Oh, man.
34:01Oh.
34:01You can imagine my surprise when I saw this.
34:06It's even worse than it looked like in the pictures.
34:11Yeah, we got diesel.
34:13We got diesel fuel.
34:14That was probably the incendiary device.
34:16Really?
34:16Yeah.
34:17What were you planning on doing with it?
34:19I was planning on restoring it.
34:20Really?
34:21Yeah.
34:21I was working at an auto shop class, a body shop class,
34:26and just little by little, finally, I was starting to see results,
34:30and all this happened.
34:32Jeez, man.
34:34The only guy who could probably fix up a car like this is Chip Foose.
34:38Yeah, pretty much.
34:39I don't think he'd touch it.
34:43You don't think he'd touch it?
34:45I think he'd probably buy another car.
34:46What are you doing here?
34:47Congratulations.
34:48Are you serious?
34:49No way.
34:50You.
34:52Chip.
34:52No way.
34:54Congratulations.
34:56Congratulations, Tyson.
34:57Thank you so much.
34:58Oh, my gosh.
34:59I can't believe you guys tricked me.
35:03Seriously.
35:09Well, who would have thunk it?
35:11Three cars and seven days later, Tyson has been pranked, informed,
35:15and now he's on his way to see his ride.
35:18And what does Papa Jim have to say?
35:23Done.
35:24We're back at Street Concepts, where Tyson's going to see his car.
35:29Okay, Tyson, you ready for your life to change?
35:31Oh, yeah.
35:32Go for it, man.
35:34Oh, no way.
35:39Oh, my gosh.
35:40You guys got to be kidding me.
35:42Oh, wow.
35:43Oh, wow.
35:50These rims are incredible.
35:52They're unbelievable.
35:53Everything.
35:56Oh, my gosh.
35:58Oh, wow.
35:59This is incredible.
36:02I don't know what to say.
36:04It's a thing of beauty right here.
36:06Everything I look at is just completely perfect,
36:09and anything I would have ever wanted.
36:11There's no way I could have ever done this.
36:13Oh, my gosh.
36:14It's amazing.
36:16Damn right amazing.
36:23Preserving the soul of Tyson's pet project as we added new gear and other Bel Air body parts,
36:30the car is a seven-day tribute to hard work, long hours, and knowing when not to use metal
36:35that has the durability of a saltine.
36:37In the end, this is Tyson's car, and to prove it, just try taking it away from him now.
36:43My car was completely, completely trash, and you guys turned this around into something
36:48that's completely unbelievable.
36:50I can't, I still can't comprehend what I'm looking at.
36:53And now he's going to meet the rest of the team that made all of this come together in a few short days.
36:58Thank you so much.
36:59Thank you, man.
37:00I appreciate it so much.
37:02Everything I've ever wanted just came together all in one.
37:04I'm speechless.
37:05I brought in a car that was completely trash, and now look at it.
37:08It's overhauled.
37:16That's right, Tyson.
37:17Overhauled is indeed the word, as three cars came together with their best stuff,
37:21all contributing to make one cool and solid 56 Chevy.
37:26It was a build that quickly turned into a scavenger hunt,
37:29as we scoured the countryside for anything and everything that had to do with the model of Bel Air that was built in 56.
37:37Of course, with that trio of old cars, we can't forget all the brand new gear,
37:41including a special surprise for Tyson waiting directly under that rebuilt, formally flamed-up hood of his.
37:48It's time to show him what makes it all run.
37:51A-class right there.
37:59A-class.
37:59Sounds excellent.
38:01Of course, this car will make other noises as well.
38:04Awesome.
38:08Unbelievable.
38:09Insane, huh?
38:10Yeah, definitely.
38:11Sounds so great.
38:12Yeah.
38:12Sounds really good.
38:13You guys did it.
38:16You made the impossible happen, honestly.
38:18Of course, you guys saw my car, and you're probably kicking me for having that car.
38:23And you know, you show me that things are possible, that dreams do come true, and you know, you made my dream come true.
38:29He says we made his dream come true, and for that, we are glad, because Tyson, in all honesty, the ride we took from you made our nightmares come true.
38:39After all, I can't remember a build where we were three days in and we still didn't know if we had a workable project on our hands.
38:46Oh, well, you can't have a dream that doesn't take a little effort.
38:55And as Tyson tells us of his dreams coming true, we know it wouldn't have happened without an insider who got a hold of us and got the whole thing rolling.
39:03Now, Tyson, there's one person who's more responsible for this than anyone else.
39:11My mother.
39:13I love you, Mom.
39:14I love you.
39:16Thank you so much.
39:18I'm sorry I lied to you.
39:21It's okay.
39:22It's all worth it.
39:25What do you think of it?
39:27I think it's unbelievable.
39:28It is unbelievable.
39:29Now, of course, Tyson, you remember that you were pretty bummed a couple days ago when we returned your car all burned out.
39:33Someone who helped us do that is someone you might know.
39:36You!
39:37Of course, man.
39:37What are you doing?
39:38Who else is going to volunteer to do that?
39:40Hopefully you like it, Mom.
39:42We worked hard on it.
39:42Yeah, we did.
39:43Looks great.
39:44Of course, with sisters and in-laws all eager to see the reborn Bel Air, it's not like Tyson's going to be short on passengers who want to ride in his ride.
39:53Oh, by the way, here's a nice bonus.
39:56Guess whose 21st birthday is less than two days away.
39:59Happy birthday, sweetheart.
40:01Happy birthday.
40:01What a birthday present.
40:04Best one ever.
40:05This is my car.
40:06This is my dream right here, and it's sitting right in front of me.
40:09I'm so happy to have this.
40:10You know, it is a life-changing thing.
40:13You know, I'm always going to have this.
40:14I'm always going to remember this experience.
40:15I'm always going to remember being here and having everybody here help me.
40:18And, you know, it completely opens my eyes to that things do happen, and dreams come true, because this is proof right here.
40:29Okay, pal.
40:30Shout it to the skies.
40:32Hey, I'm Tyson, and I've just been overhauled.
40:34It feels good to be done.
40:46That's the best part, when you're done.
40:50You ready for some sleep?
