00:00:49and he has revealed the quran as the criterion of judgment between truth and falsehood those who deny the revelations of allah there surely awaits them a severe punishment mighty is allah the lord of retribution
00:01:07as to allah verily nothing in this earth nor in the space above is hidden from his view he it is who fashions you in the wombs as he will
00:01:20there is no other cannot be and will never be one worthy of worship but he the almighty the all-wise
00:01:32he it is who has revealed to you this perfect book some of its verses are definite and decisive they are the basic root conveying the established meanings of the book and other verses are susceptible to various interpretations
00:01:50as for those in whose hearts is perversity they follow verses that are susceptible to different interpretations seeking to cause dissension and seeking an interpretation of their own words
00:02:02their own choice but no one knows its true interpretation except allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge they say we believe in it it is all the basic and decisive verses as well as the allegorical ones from our lord and none take heed except those endowed with pure and clear understanding
00:02:26our lord they pray let not our hearts become perverse after you have guided us and grant us from your own self special mercy for you alone are the most liberal bestower
00:02:42our lord you are invariably going to assemble all humankind on the day about the advent of which there is no doubt surely allah never breaks his word
00:02:55as to those who disbelieve neither their possessions nor their children shall avail them at all against the punishment of allah and it is they that will be the fuel of the fire
00:03:11their conduct is like the conduct of the followers of pharaoh and those before them
00:03:17they cried lies to our messages so that allah took them to task for their sins allah is severe in retribution say to those who disbelieve you shall soon be overcome and gathered together to be driven towards jehannah what an evil abode it is
00:03:39there has already been for you a remarkable sign in the two armies that encountered each other in the battle of badr behold one army is fighting in the cause of allah and the other is an army of disbelievers whom they the muslims saw with their naked eyes twice as many
00:04:01and allah strengthens with his help whomsoever he will verily in this is a lesson for those who have eyes
00:04:13it has been made fair seeming to the people the love of the desired things comprising women sons stored up heaps of gold and silver well bred horses cattle and tilth that is the provision of the present life whereas with allah is the fairest goal of life
00:04:35say shall i inform you of something better than these there are with their lord gardens served with running streams for those who become secure against evil there they shall abide forever and there will be the righteous companions perfectly purified and above all they will enjoy the good pleasure of allah
00:05:01and allah is mindful of his servants who say our lord we have certainly believed therefore protect us against the consequences of our sins and save us from the punishment of the fire
00:05:19and those who are patiently persevering the truthful and the obedient and those who spend liberally in the cause of allah and the implorers of divine protection in the latter part of the night and from the core of their hearts
00:05:36allah bears witness that there is no other cannot be and will never be one worthy of worship but he and so do the angels and those possessed of true knowledge maintaining justice
00:05:51there is no other cannot be and will never be one worthy of worship but he the almighty the all-wise
00:06:02decidedly the true faith acceptable to allah is islam those who were given the scripture were not at variance except after the knowledge had come to them
00:06:14their differences were due to mutual envy and to spite one another and whoso denies the messages of allah should bear in mind that then allah indeed is quick at reckoning
00:06:29but if they dispute with you say i have completely submitted myself to the will and guidance of allah and so have those who follow me
00:06:40and say to those who had been given the scripture and to the unlettered have you also submitted yourselves indeed they will be following true guidance if they submit themselves to the will of god
00:06:55but if they turn back then your responsibility is only to convey the message allah is ever watchful of his servants
00:07:06surely those who deny the messages of allah and seek to kill the prophets without a just cause and slay those among the people who enjoin equity and justice announce to them a grievous punishment
00:07:21it is they whose deeds go in vain in this world and in the hereafter and they shall have none to help them
00:07:30have you not considered the case of those who were given a portion of the scripture
00:07:36when they are called to the book of allah that it may judge between them yet a party of them turn away in sheer aversion they do so because they say the fire will not even brush us except for a limited number of days
00:07:55their own lies that they used to forge have deluded them in the matter of their faith then how will they fare when we gather them together for the day about the advent of which there is no doubt
00:08:08and when every soul shall be paid in full for what it has accomplished and they shall not be dealt with unjustly
00:08:17say o allah the lord of all power you grant power to whomsoever you will and you take away power from whomsoever you please and confer honor and dignity on whomsoever you will and disgrace whomsoever you will
00:08:37all good lies in your hand verily you are the possessor of full power to do all you will
00:08:46you cause the night to merge into the day and cause the day to merge into the night and bring forth the living from the dead and bring forth the dead from the living
00:09:00and provide all sorts of provisions to whomsoever you will without measure let not the believers take the disbelievers for allies in preference to the believers unless you very carefully guard against evil from them
00:09:16indeed he who acts likewise in a careless manner let him remember he has nothing to do with allah and allah cautions you against his punishment for to allah is the eventual returning
00:09:33say
00:09:35whether you conceal that which is in your bosoms or whether you reveal it allah knows it and he knows whatever is in the heavens
00:09:44and whatever is in the earth
00:09:47allah is the possessor of full power to do all that he will
00:09:51beware of the day
00:09:54when every soul shall be confronted with what good it has done
00:09:59and similarly
00:10:00whatever it has done of evil
00:10:03it will earnestly wish
00:10:05there would be a long distance between it
00:10:08and between that
00:10:10allah cautions you against his punishment
00:10:13and allah is most compassionate to his servants
00:10:17say
00:10:19follow me if you love allah
00:10:22if you do so
00:10:24allah will love you and grant you protection from your sins
00:10:28allah is great protector
00:10:31ever merciful
00:10:32say
00:10:33obey allah and this perfect messenger
00:10:38but if they turn away
00:10:40then remember that allah does not love the disbelievers
00:10:44truly allah chose adam
00:10:47noah
00:10:48and the family of abraham
00:10:51and the family of amran
00:10:53above all peoples of the time
00:10:56they are a lineage correlated with one another
00:11:01allah is all hearing
00:11:03all knowing
00:11:05allah listened when a woman of the family of amran said
00:11:10my lord
00:11:11i do hereby vow to you
00:11:14what is in my womb to be dedicated to your service
00:11:18so do accept it of me
00:11:20you alone are the all hearing
00:11:22the all knowing
00:11:24but when she gave birth to it
00:11:27she said
00:11:28my lord
00:11:29i have given birth to a female
00:11:32allah knew best what she had given birth to
00:11:36and the male she was thinking of
00:11:39was not like this female she had brought forth
00:11:42i have named her mary
00:11:44and i do commend her to your protection
00:11:47and also her offspring to be saved from satan the accursed
00:11:52so her lord accepted her
00:11:55with a gracious acceptance
00:11:57and made her grow into an excellent form
00:12:00and assigned her to the care of zachariah
00:12:04every time zachariah visited her in the chamber
00:12:07he found her with her provisions
00:12:10he said
00:12:11from where do you get all this o mary
00:12:14she replied with all conscientiousness
00:12:18it is from allah
00:12:20verily allah provides whomsoever he will without measure
00:12:25then and there did zachariah pray to his lord saying
00:12:29my lord grant me by your own grace
00:12:32pure and pious descendant
00:12:34you alone are indeed the hearer of prayers
00:12:39so the angels called to him as he stood praying in the sanctuary
00:12:43allah bears you the glad tidings of john
00:12:47who shall confirm the word of god
00:12:50and who shall be noble
00:12:51utterly chaste
00:12:53a prophet from among the righteous
00:12:56lord he said
00:12:58how shall i have a son
00:13:00now that old age has already come upon me and my wife is barren
00:13:05the lord said
00:13:07such are the ways of allah
00:13:10he does what he will
00:13:12he said
00:13:14my lord
00:13:15give me some instruction
00:13:18the lord said
00:13:19the instruction for you is that you shall not speak to the people for three days and nights
00:13:25except by gestures
00:13:27and remember your lord a good deal and glorify him in the evening and early in the morning
00:13:34recall the time when the angel said o mary surely allah has chosen you and has rid you of all impurities and has preferred you to the women of all contemporary people
00:13:48o mary be devout to your lord and prostrate yourself and bow along with the congregation of the worshippers of god
00:13:57these are some of the important accounts of the things unseen we have revealed to you
00:14:04you were not present with them
00:14:06when they the priests
00:14:08cast their quills to decide
00:14:10as to which of them should have mary in his charge to arrange her marriage
00:14:16and you were not with them when they
00:14:18the exalted assembly of the angels
00:14:21were engaged in a discussion
00:14:23over the issue of muhammad being entrusted with the divine mission
00:14:28recall the time when the angels said
00:14:31o mary
00:14:33allah gives you good tidings through a prophetic word from him
00:14:37about the birth of a son
00:14:39whose name is the messiah jesus
00:14:42son of mary
00:14:44he shall be worthy of regard in this world
00:14:47and in the hereafter
00:14:49and one of the nearest ones to him
00:14:52and he will speak to the people when in the cradle as a child
00:14:57and when of old age
00:14:59and shall be of the righteous
00:15:02she said
00:15:03my lord
00:15:05how can i
00:15:06and whence shall i have a child
00:15:09while no man has yet touched me
00:15:12the lord said
00:15:14such are the ways of allah
00:15:17he creates what he will
00:15:19when he decrees a thing
00:15:22he simply commands it be
00:15:24and it comes to be
00:15:26the angels continued
00:15:29and he will teach him the art of writing and reading
00:15:32and the wisdom of the torah and the evangel
00:15:36and he will appoint him a messenger to the children of israel
00:15:40with the message i have come to you with a sign from your lord
00:15:45i have come so that i determine for your benefit from clay
00:15:50a person
00:15:51after the manner of a bird
00:15:53then i shall breathe into him a new spirit
00:15:57so that he becomes a flyer
00:16:00a spiritual person
00:16:01by the authority of allah
00:16:04and i absolve the blind and the leprous
00:16:07and i quicken the spiritually dead by the authority of allah
00:16:12and i inform you as to what you should eat
00:16:15and what you should store in your houses
00:16:18behold
00:16:20these facts shall surely serve you as a definite sign if you are believers
00:16:25and i come confirming that which is before me namely the torah
00:16:30and that i declare lawful for you some of the things that had been forbidden to you
00:16:35i come to you with a sign from your lord
00:16:38so take allah as a shield and obey me
00:16:42surely allah is my lord as well as your lord
00:16:46therefore worship him
00:16:48this is the right path
00:16:51but when jesus felt disbelief on their part
00:16:54and thought his people would renounce him
00:16:57he said
00:16:58who are my helpers in calling the people towards allah
00:17:03the disciples said
00:17:05we are the helpers in the cause of allah
00:17:08we have believed in allah
00:17:10bear witness that we are the submitting ones to his will
00:17:15the disciples then prayed
00:17:17our lord
00:17:19we believe in that which you have revealed
00:17:21and we follow this messenger
00:17:23so count us with the witnesses of the truth
00:17:27and they the persecutors of jesus planned to crucify him
00:17:31and allah planned to save him
00:17:33and allah is the best of the planners
00:17:37recall the time when allah said
00:17:40o jesus i will cause you to die a natural death
00:17:44and will exalt you to myself
00:17:47and i will clear you of the unchaste accusations of those who disbelieve
00:17:52i am going to make your followers prevail over the disbelievers till the day of resurrection
00:17:58then to me o people shall be your return
00:18:02and i will judge all of your differences
00:18:05then as for those who disbelieve
00:18:08i will punish them sternly in this world
00:18:11and in the hereafter
00:18:13and they shall have no helpers
00:18:15as for those who believe
00:18:18and do deeds of righteousness
00:18:20he will pay them their rewards in full
00:18:23allah loves not the unjust
00:18:26that is what we recite to you
00:18:30the messages and the reminder
00:18:33full of wisdom
00:18:35verily the case of jesus is as the case of adam
00:18:39in the sight of allah
00:18:41he fashioned him out of dust
00:18:44then he said to him
00:18:45be
00:18:47and he came to be
00:18:49o reader
00:18:51this is the real truth from your lord
00:18:54hence do not be of the disputers at all
00:18:58now whoso disputes with you in this matter of jesus
00:19:02after there has come to you true knowledge
00:19:05then say to him come let us summon our sons and your sons our women and your women and our people and your people then let us pray fervently one against the other and invoke the disapproval of allah upon the liars
00:19:24verily this which we have told is certainly the true account there is no other cannot be and will never be one worthy of worship but allah and surely it is allah who is the almighty the all-wise
00:19:44but if they turn away
00:19:46then remember that allah of course knows the mischief makers
00:19:51say
00:19:52o people of the scripture
00:19:55let us agree to a proposition
00:19:58common to us both
00:20:00that we worship none but allah
00:20:02and that we associate no partner with him
00:20:05and that some of us
00:20:07shall not hold others as lords besides allah
00:20:11but if they turn away refusing say
00:20:14bear witness that we are the only submitting ones to one god
00:20:19o people of the scripture
00:20:22why do you argue about abraham
00:20:24while the torah and the evangel were not revealed till after him
00:20:30have you no sense
00:20:32behold
00:20:34you are such as have argued about that whereof you have a little knowledge
00:20:39knowledge
00:20:40now why do you argue about that whereof you have no knowledge at all
00:20:45indeed
00:20:46allah knows the truth
00:20:48while you do not
00:20:51abraham was neither a jew nor a christian
00:20:54but he was upright
00:20:56who had submitted
00:20:58to the will of god
00:21:00and he was not one of the polytheists
00:21:04the people nearest to abraham are surely those who followed him in the days of his prophethood
00:21:10and this prophet
00:21:11and those who believe in him
00:21:13indeed allah is the patron of the believers
00:21:17believers
00:21:19a section of the people of the scripture would fain lead you astray
00:21:24and it is only the people like themselves that they lead astray
00:21:28only they perceive not
00:21:30o people of the scripture
00:21:33why do you deny the revelations of allah
00:21:36while you are witnessing their truth
00:21:39o people of the scripture
00:21:42why do you confound the truth with falsehood
00:21:45and conceal truth
00:21:47and that too deliberately
00:21:49a section of the people of the scripture said to their companions in confidence
00:21:55avow belief in that which has been revealed to the believers in the early hours of the day
00:22:02and deny it in the latter part of it
00:22:05so that they
00:22:06the newly converted muslims
00:22:08may return to disbelief
00:22:11yet avow this belief only for the sake of those who follow your creed
00:22:17say
00:22:18surely the true guidance is allah's guidance
00:22:21and they also said
00:22:24do not believe
00:22:25that anyone will ever be given the like of that gift of prophethood
00:22:30which you have been given
00:22:32or that they will ever be able to prevail upon you in argument before your lord
00:22:38say
00:22:39eminence of prophethood and sovereignty is entirely in the hands of allah
00:22:45he confers it to whomsoever he will
00:22:48and allah is all embracing
00:22:51all knowing
00:22:54allah has singled out for his grace of the bestowal of divine revelation
00:22:59one whom he has pleased
00:23:02for allah is the lord of great eminence
00:23:06and among the people of the scripture
00:23:09there is he who if you trust him with a huge treasure
00:23:13he will surrender it to you
00:23:15yet there is another among them
00:23:18that if you entrust him with a single dinar
00:23:21he will not surrender it to you unless you keep on pressing him
00:23:26they do that because they say
00:23:29we are not liable to be called to account in the matter of the unlettered
00:23:34and they tell a lie in the name of allah deliberately
00:23:39nay
00:23:40they will indeed be called to account
00:23:44yet whoso discharges his obligations and guards against evil
00:23:50he will find that allah in fact loves those who guard against evil
00:23:56on the contrary those who take paltry gains for shaking off their covenant with allah
00:24:03and their oaths
00:24:05it is these for whom there shall be no big share in the hereafter
00:24:09allah will never speak to them lovingly
00:24:12nor look at them with affection on the day of resurrection
00:24:16nor will he treat them as pure
00:24:19there awaits them a woeful punishment
00:24:22there are some among them who twist their tongues
00:24:27while reciting their scripture
00:24:29that you may think that what they recite is a part of the scripture
00:24:33whilst it is no part of the scripture
00:24:36and they say
00:24:38this is from allah
00:24:40whereas it is not from allah
00:24:43they tell a lie in the name of allah deliberately
00:24:48it is not given to a human being
00:24:51that allah should give him the book
00:24:53the sovereignty and the prophethood
00:24:56and then he should say to the people
00:24:58be servants to me besides allah
00:25:01he would rather say
00:25:03be you the sole devotees of allah the lord
00:25:08for you teach the book and because you study it
00:25:11nor would it be possible for him
00:25:14that he bid you take the angels and prophets as your lords
00:25:19would he bid you disbelieve after you have submitted yourselves
00:25:25recall the time when allah bound the people to a covenant through the prophets saying
00:25:32indeed whatever i have vouchsafed to you of the book and the wisdom
00:25:36and then there comes to you a messenger fulfilling that which is with you
00:25:41you shall surely believe in him and have to help him
00:25:44the lord further said
00:25:46do you agree and do you undertake the heavy responsibility of my covenant on these terms
00:25:53they said
00:25:55we do agree
00:25:56god said
00:25:58bear witness to it
00:25:59and i am with you among the witnesses
00:26:02now those who turn away
00:26:05and break their pledge after this
00:26:07will be the real transgressors
00:26:09do they then seek a creed other than allah's
00:26:14while all those that are in the heavens and on the earth submit to him willingly or unwillingly
00:26:19and to him they shall be made to return
00:26:22say
00:26:24we believe in allah
00:26:26and in that which has been revealed to us
00:26:29and in that which was revealed to abraham
00:26:32and ismael
00:26:34and isaac
00:26:35and jacob
00:26:36and his children
00:26:38and in that which was given to moses
00:26:40and jesus
00:26:42and to all other prophets from their lord
00:26:45we make no distinction between any one of them in believing them
00:26:50and to him alone do we submit
00:26:52and whosoever seeks a faith other than islam
00:26:57it will never be accepted from him
00:27:00and he shall be of the losers in the hereafter
00:27:04how is allah to guide a people who renounce their faith
00:27:08after having accepted it
00:27:10and after testifying to the truth of the messenger
00:27:14and after clear and sound proofs had come to them
00:27:18and allah never guides a people who cannot discriminate between right and wrong
00:27:24it is these whose recompense is that the disapproval of allah shall be upon them
00:27:31and that of the angels and of the people altogether
00:27:36they shall abide there for long
00:27:39their punishment shall not be reduced nor shall they be reprieved
00:27:44except those who repent after this and make amends
00:27:50such will find that surely allah is the great protector ever merciful
00:27:57verily those who chose disbelief after they had believed
00:28:02and then go on increasing in disbelief
00:28:05their repentance shall not be accepted
00:28:08and these are the people who are completely lost
00:28:12verily as to those who have disbelieved
00:28:16and die while they are disbelievers
00:28:19there shall not be accepted from any one of them
00:28:23even an earth full of gold if he would ransom himself thereby
00:28:27there awaits them a woeful punishment
00:28:30they shall have no helpers either
00:28:33never shall you attain the highest state of virtue
00:28:38unless you spend in the cause of allah
00:28:41out of that which you love
00:28:43and whatever you spend
00:28:45allah indeed knows it well
00:28:48all the pure food
00:28:50which is lawful in islam
00:28:52was lawful for the children of israel
00:28:55except what israel forbade himself before the advent of torah
00:29:00say bring then the torah and read it if you are right in your assertions
00:29:06now whoso forges a lie against allah after that it is they who are the unjust
00:29:13say now that it has been proved that allah has declared the truth
00:29:19therefore follow the creed of abraham the upright
00:29:23and he was not of the polytheist
00:29:26verily the first house founded for the good of humankind is the one of becca
00:29:32it is the house full of blessings
00:29:34and a means of guidance for all the peoples
00:29:37therein are clear memorials
00:29:40the first is the place where abraham stood for prayers
00:29:44secondly whosoever enters it is in a state of peace and security
00:29:52thirdly pilgrimage to the house is due to allah from every one of humankind who is physically
00:29:59financially and in many other ways able and has the means to make the journey thereto
00:30:06and whosoever disobeys let him remember that allah is independent of the worlds
00:30:13say
00:30:14oh you people of the scripture why do you deny the messages of allah
00:30:19while allah is witness to all that you do
00:30:23say
00:30:24oh people of the scripture why do you hinder him who believes
00:30:29from following the path of allah
00:30:32you try to seek crookedness in it
00:30:34while you yourselves are witnesses to its truth
00:30:37and allah is not at all unmindful of what you do
00:30:42oh you who believe
00:30:45if you obey a section of those who have been given the scripture
00:30:49they will turn you back into disbelievers after having believed
00:30:54and how would you disbelieve while the messages of allah are rehearsed to you
00:31:01and his messenger is present in your midst
00:31:05and whosoever holds fast to allah is indeed guided on to the exact right path
00:31:12oh you who believe
00:31:15observe your duty to allah as it ought to be observed
00:31:19and let not death overtake you unless you be in a state of complete submission to your lord
00:31:26hold fast to the means of access to allah altogether
00:31:31and do not be disunited
00:31:34and remember allah's favors to you
00:31:37when you were enemies one to another
00:31:39he united your hearts in love
00:31:42so that by his grace you became brethren
00:31:45and you were on the brink of a pit of fire
00:31:49he saved you therefrom
00:31:51thus does allah explain to you his messages and miracles
00:31:56that you may be guided aright
00:31:59and let there always be a community of such people among you
00:32:04who should call people to goodness
00:32:06and enjoin equity and forbid evil
00:32:09it is these who shall attain to their goal
00:32:13and do not be like those who were disunited and fell into variance after clear proofs had come to them
00:32:21it is these for whom a great punishment awaits
00:32:25on the day when some faces shall be lit up by happiness
00:32:30and some faces shall be clouded because of sorrow
00:32:34it will be said to those faces who are clouded
00:32:37is it not true that you disbelieved after your belief
00:32:42taste now the punishment because you disbelieved
00:32:46and as for those whose faces shall be lit up
00:32:50they shall come under the mercy of allah
00:32:53and in it they shall abide forever
00:32:56such are the revelations of allah comprising the truth
00:33:01we rehearse them to you
00:33:03and allah means no injustice to any of his creatures
00:33:08and to allah belongs whatsoever is in the heavens
00:33:12and whatsoever is in the earth
00:33:15and all matters stand referred to allah
00:33:20you are the noblest people raised up for the good of humankind
00:33:27you enjoin equity and forbid evil
00:33:30and you believe truly in allah
00:33:33had the people of the scripture also believed
00:33:37it would surely have been best for them
00:33:40some of them are believers
00:33:42yet most of them are disobedient
00:33:46they shall do you no harm except a trifling hurt
00:33:51and if they fight you they will show you their backs and flee
00:33:55they shall never be helped then
00:33:58smitten are they with ignominy wherever they are found unless they have a bond of protection from allah
00:34:06or a bond of security from the people
00:34:09they have incurred the displeasure of allah and have been condemned to humiliation
00:34:15that is so because they would disbelieve in the messages of allah
00:34:21and would seek to kill the prophets without any just cause
00:34:26and that is so because they rebelled and had been transgressing as usual
00:34:31they the people of the scripture are not all alike
00:34:36among these people of the scripture there are some upright people
00:34:40they rehearse the message of allah in the hours of the night
00:34:44and they prostrate themselves in his worship
00:34:47they believe in allah and the last day
00:34:51and enjoin good and forbid evil
00:34:54and they vie one with another in doing good deeds
00:34:58and it is these who are of the truly righteous
00:35:02and whatever good they do
00:35:04they shall not be denied its due recognition
00:35:08and allah knows well those who guard against evil
00:35:13verily as to those who disbelieve
00:35:17neither their possessions nor their children shall avail them aught against the punishment of allah
00:35:23and it is they who are the fellows of the fire
00:35:27therein shall they live long
00:35:30that which they spend for the present life bears likeness with the wind wherein is freezing cold
00:35:39which smites the tilth of the people who have done injustice to themselves
00:35:45so it destroys it
00:35:47allah does no injustice to them but they wrong themselves
00:35:53o you who believe
00:35:55do not hold other people as confidants of your secrets to the exclusion of your own honest folk
00:36:02such people shall not be remiss to corrupt you
00:36:06they love all that by which you get into trouble
00:36:10gross hatred has already expressed itself through the utterances of their mouths
00:36:17and what their hearts conceal is far worse
00:36:21now we have explained the messages fully to you
00:36:26if you would only understand
00:36:29behold
00:36:31you are those who love them
00:36:33while they do not love you
00:36:35though you believe in every divine book
00:36:38in the whole of it
00:36:40and when they meet you they say
00:36:42we believe
00:36:43and when they are alone
00:36:45they bite their fingertips out of rage against you
00:36:49say
00:36:50perish in your rage
00:36:52surely allah knows the inmost secrets of your hearts
00:36:56if anything good contacts you
00:36:59it hurts them
00:37:00but if an evil afflicts you
00:37:02they rejoice thereat
00:37:04however
00:37:05if you patiently persevere
00:37:08and ward off evil
00:37:10their machination will do you no harm at all
00:37:14verily allah encompasses all their activities
00:37:18and recall the time when you O prophet
00:37:22went forth early in the morning from your family
00:37:25assigning to the believers their battle post in the battle of Uhud
00:37:29and Allah is all hearing all knowing
00:37:33when two groups from among you
00:37:36were disposed to show cowardliness
00:37:39and Allah was the protecting friend of them both
00:37:43and in allah the believers should put their trust
00:37:47surely allah had already helped you at the battle of badr
00:37:52while you were utterly weak
00:37:54therefore take allah as a shield
00:37:57so that he may bless you and you may give him thanks
00:38:01recall the time when you said to the believers
00:38:05does it not suffice you that your lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down by him
00:38:12indeed it does
00:38:15and if you patiently persevere
00:38:18and guard against evil
00:38:20and they the enemies come upon you suddenly
00:38:23and in hot haste of theirs
00:38:25your lord will reinforce you with five thousand swooping and havoc making angels
00:38:31and Allah meant not this help by the angels
00:38:36except as good tidings of victory for you
00:38:40and to set your hearts at ease therewith
00:38:43there is no real help and victory except from Allah alone
00:38:48the almighty the all wise
00:38:52God will do accordingly at Uhud with the result that he may cut off a section of those
00:39:00who disbelieve and their leaders and vanquish others with humiliation
00:39:06so that they might go back utterly frustrated
00:39:09O prophet you have no say whatsoever in the matter
00:39:14it is up to him alone whether he turns towards them with mercy
00:39:19or punishes them because they are certainly wrong-doers
00:39:23and to Allah belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth
00:39:29he protects against sins whom he will and punishes whom he will
00:39:35Allah is great protector ever merciful
00:39:39O you who believe
00:39:42do not practice usury and interest involving multiple additions
00:39:47and keep your duty to Allah
00:39:50and take him as a shield so that you may prosper
00:39:54be on your guard against the fire which has been prepared for the disbelievers
00:40:00and obey Allah and this messenger that you may be shown mercy
00:40:06wing your way to the protection of your lord
00:40:10and to the paradise whose expanse is as vast as the heavens and the earth
00:40:15it is prepared for those who become secure against evil
00:40:20those who spend in the cause of Allah in prosperity and adversity
00:40:26and those who suppress anger and pardon the offenses of the people
00:40:30and Allah loves such doers of good to others
00:40:35and those who when they commit any act of indecency or do injustice to themselves
00:40:41remember Allah and implore him for protection against their sins
00:40:46and who can protect against sins except Allah
00:40:50and they do not deliberately persist in wrongdoing
00:40:55it is these whose reward is protection from their lord
00:40:59and gardens served with running streams
00:41:03therein they shall live forever
00:41:05how excellent is the reward of the painstaking in the right direction
00:41:11surely there have been diverse dispensations before you
00:41:16so travel in the land and see how evil was the fate of those who cried lies to the prophets
00:41:22this quran is a clear exposition of the truth for humankind to follow
00:41:28and a means to guidance and an exhortation to those who guard against evil
00:41:34and are dutiful to god and people
00:41:37therefore slacken not nor grieve
00:41:41and when you are true believers you shall certainly be triumphant
00:41:45if you have received an outer injury
00:41:49surely the disbelieving people have already received a similar injury
00:41:54these days of vicissitudes are those which we cause to alternate among the people
00:42:01it is so that you may be admonished and that among other things
00:42:05Allah may distinguish those who really believe
00:42:08and so that he may raise martyrs from among you
00:42:12and Allah does not love the unjust
00:42:15and it is so that Allah may purge all the impurities of those who truly believe
00:42:21and so that he may wipe off the disbelievers gradually
00:42:27do you suppose that you would enter paradise
00:42:31while Allah has not yet distinguished those of you who strive hard in the cause of Allah
00:42:37and has not yet distinguished the patiently persevering
00:42:42and you used to long for death before you met it
00:42:47but now you have seen it and you will see yet many more wonders happen
00:42:52and Muhammad is but a messenger
00:42:55surely all messengers have passed away before him
00:42:59would you recant it if he dies or be killed
00:43:03and he who recants shall do no harm at all to Allah
00:43:09and Allah will certainly reward the grateful
00:43:13nor can a living being die save by the leave of Allah
00:43:18a decree with a prescribed term
00:43:21and he who desires the reward for his deeds of this world
00:43:25we grant him thereof
00:43:27and he who desires the reward of the hereafter
00:43:31we grant him thereof
00:43:33and we will certainly reward the grateful
00:43:36there has been many a prophet beside whom many worshippers of the Lord fought
00:43:42they were neither unnerved on account of all that befell them in the cause of Allah
00:43:47nor did they weaken
00:43:48nor did they show inconsistency against their adversary
00:43:52Allah certainly loves such patiently persevering ones
00:43:57their word of prayer was only that they said
00:44:01our Lord grant us protection against the consequences of our sins
00:44:07and our excesses in our conduct
00:44:10and make our foothold firm
00:44:13and grant us victory over the disbelieving people
00:44:17so Allah granted them the reward of this world
00:44:21as also an excellent reward of the hereafter
00:44:24and Allah loves the doers of good to others
00:44:28O you who believe
00:44:30if you obey those who have disbelieved
00:44:34they will make you turn apostates
00:44:36so that you will become losers
00:44:38nay
00:44:40Allah is your patron and protector
00:44:43and he is the best of the helpers
00:44:47we shall certainly strike terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved
00:44:52because they have associated with Allah
00:44:55that for which he has sent down no authority
00:44:59their abode is the fire
00:45:01and how dismal is the lodging of the wrongdoers
00:45:04and certainly Allah had made good his promise to you
00:45:09when you were slaying them to pieces by his leave
00:45:12in the battle of Uhud
00:45:14until
00:45:15when you became lax
00:45:17and disagreed among yourselves
00:45:19about the implications of the order of the prophet
00:45:22and you disobeyed your leader
00:45:24Abdullah bin Jubeir
00:45:26after he had brought that victory
00:45:28which you desired within your sight
00:45:30he withdrew his help from you
00:45:34there were some among you who desired the present life
00:45:38and among you were those who desired the life to come
00:45:41then he turned you away from gaining clear victory over them
00:45:45the enemy
00:45:46that he might reveal your true selves
00:45:49yet he surely pardoned you
00:45:52Allah is gracious to the believers
00:45:55when you were going hard and far in pursuit of the enemy in the battle of Uhud
00:46:01and you would not cast even a side glance at
00:46:05and wait for anyone
00:46:06while the messenger was calling out to you from your rear to come back
00:46:10so he gave you greater sorrow
00:46:13which proved unreal later on in place of the sorrow you had already
00:46:17in order that you should not grieve over what you had missed of clear victory
00:46:22nor over what befell you of the hardships
00:46:25and Allah is well aware of what you do
00:46:29then after the sorrow
00:46:32he sent down tranquility upon you
00:46:35a slumber
00:46:36which overwhelmed a party of you
00:46:39while another party of the hypocrites
00:46:41whom their own personal interest had made anxious
00:46:45entertained unjustly false notions about Allah
00:46:49like the false notions they used to bear in the days of ignorance
00:46:53they said
00:46:55have we any authority in the execution of the matter of administration
00:47:00say
00:47:01the whole authority rest with Allah
00:47:04they hide in their minds
00:47:07thoughts which they would not disclose to you
00:47:10they say
00:47:12if we had any authority in the execution of the matter of administration
00:47:17we would not have been killed here
00:47:19say
00:47:20even if you had been confined in your homes
00:47:24surely those who were ordained to be slain would have
00:47:27nevertheless gone forth to the places where they were destined to fall
00:47:32and all this that took place in the battle of Uhud
00:47:35was that Allah
00:47:37might reveal what was in your hearts
00:47:40and so that he might purge what was in your minds
00:47:43and Allah knows well what is in the minds of the people
00:47:47surely those of you who turned their backs on the day when two armies met in the battlefield of Uhud
00:47:54it was Satan indeed
00:47:56who sought to seduce them to do so
00:47:58without any intention on their part
00:48:01because of certain other doings of theirs
00:48:04and most certainly Allah has already pardoned them
00:48:07verily Allah is great protector ever forbearing
00:48:14O you who believe
00:48:15do not be like those who have concealed the truth
00:48:19and who say of their brethren when they
00:48:21the latter travel in the land
00:48:23or go forth on any campaign
00:48:25and fall martyrs
00:48:27had they been with us
00:48:29they would not have died or been killed
00:48:32they say it so that Allah
00:48:34makes this a cause of intense regret in their heart
00:48:38the fact however is that
00:48:40it is Allah who gives life and causes death
00:48:43Allah sees well all that you do
00:48:46and if you are killed in the cause of Allah
00:48:50or you die
00:48:51surely you will find that the protection from Allah and His mercy
00:48:56which fall to your lot
00:48:58are far better than what they who have concealed the truth amass
00:49:03indeed whether you die or be killed
00:49:07verily you shall be gathered together and brought before Allah
00:49:11so O prophet
00:49:14it is owing to the great mercy of Allah
00:49:17that you are gentle towards them
00:49:19had you been harsh
00:49:21hard-hearted
00:49:22they would have certainly dispersed from around you
00:49:25hence
00:49:26pardon them
00:49:27and ask protection for them
00:49:29and consult them in matters of administration
00:49:32and when you are determined
00:49:34after due consultation
00:49:36put your trust in Allah
00:49:38verily Allah loves those
00:49:40those who put their trust in Him
00:49:43if Allah goes on helping you
00:49:45there is none to overcome you
00:49:47and if He forsakes you
00:49:49then who is there that will help you besides Him
00:49:52let the believers put their trust in Allah alone
00:49:57it is not possible for a prophet to be guilty of a breach of trust
00:50:02but whoever else is guilty of a breach of trust
00:50:06He will have to bring forth that about which He had been guilty on the day of resurrection
00:50:12when every soul shall be paid in full for what it has accomplished
00:50:16and they shall not be done any injustice
00:50:19can the person who always follows the good pleasure of Allah
00:50:24be like the person who has incurred the displeasure of Allah
00:50:28and whose abode is Jehannah?
00:50:30what an evil destined abode it is
00:50:33they
00:50:35the believers and the prophets
00:50:37have exalted degrees of rank and grace with Allah
00:50:41and Allah sees well of all that they do
00:50:45verily
00:50:47Allah has bestowed a favor on the believers
00:50:50when He has raised amongst them a great messenger from amongst themselves
00:50:54who recites to them His messages
00:50:57and purifies them
00:50:59and teaches them the book and the wisdom
00:51:02although before this
00:51:04they were steeped in flagrant error
00:51:07so what when you suffered a loss at the battle of uhud
00:51:12you had already inflicted a loss upon your enemy
00:51:16twice as heavy as that at the battle of batter
00:51:19you began to say
00:51:22whence is this
00:51:24say
00:51:25it is of your own making
00:51:27surely Allah is the possessor of full power to do all that He will
00:51:33and that which befell you on the day when the two armies met at Uhud
00:51:38was so by the leave of Allah
00:51:41and it happened thus
00:51:43so that He might distinguish the believers
00:51:46and that He might distinguish those who practice hypocrisy
00:51:50indeed it was said to them
00:51:53come forward
00:51:54fight in the cause of Allah
00:51:56or at least help the defenses
00:51:59they said
00:52:00if we but knew that it would be a fight
00:52:04we would surely follow you
00:52:06but the muslims were going to a sure destruction
00:52:10on that day they were nearer to disbelief than to belief
00:52:15they say with their mouths that which is not in their minds
00:52:20and Allah knows best all that they conceal
00:52:24it is these who said of their brethren whilst they themselves stayed behind declining the field
00:52:31if they had obeyed us they would not have been killed
00:52:36say
00:52:37then avert death from yourselves if you are right
00:52:42and think not of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead
00:52:47nay they are alive enjoying the company of their ever-living lord
00:52:53and well provided as they deserve to be for an everlasting life
00:52:59jubilant because of that which Allah has given them out of His grace
00:53:04they are receiving glad tidings also about those believers similar to themselves
00:53:10who are still left behind them in this world
00:53:13and have not yet joined them
00:53:15that they shall have no cause of fear
00:53:18nor shall they grieve
00:53:20rather they will be victorious
00:53:22and will see the promise of Allah fulfilled
00:53:25and they the martyrs
00:53:28are also receiving glad tidings
00:53:30that those who have been left behind in the world
00:53:33are happy because of the favors of Allah and His great bounty
00:53:38and that Allah does not suffer the reward of the believers to be lost
00:53:44those who responded to the call of Allah and the messenger after they had received an injury at uhud
00:53:51for those amongst them who did their duty well and warded off evil by pursuing the enemy forces the next day
00:54:00there awaits a great reward
00:54:04those to whom at the time of the expedition said people have assembled against you so fear them
00:54:12but this threat of danger increased their faith and they said Allah is sufficient for us
00:54:19and He is an excellent disposer of affairs
00:54:23hence
00:54:24they returned with a mighty blessing from Allah and a great bounty
00:54:28they suffered no harm whatsoever
00:54:31and they followed the good pleasure of Allah
00:54:34indeed Allah is the possessor of great bounty
00:54:39now you have come to know that it is satan in fact who merely threatens through his friends
00:54:46so do not fear them
00:54:47rather fear me if you are true believers
00:54:51and do not let those who vie with one another in following the ways of disbelief grieve you
00:54:58surely they shall not be able to do the slightest harm to Allah
00:55:02it is Allah's will to assign them no portion in the hereafter
00:55:07rather there awaits them a great punishment
00:55:11those who preferred disbelief to belief will not be able to do the least harm to Allah
00:55:18a grievous punishment awaits them
00:55:21and do not let those who disbelieve think that the respite we give them is good for them
00:55:29surely we grant them respite
00:55:32but they do not avail it
00:55:34with the result that they add to their sins
00:55:37a humiliating punishment awaits them
00:55:40and Allah is not going to leave you the believers as you are
00:55:47unless he has distinguished the corrupt from the good
00:55:51nor is Allah going to reveal fully to every one of you the unseen
00:55:56but Allah chooses for his messages such of his messengers as he will
00:56:02believe therefore in Allah and his messengers
00:56:06and remember if you believe truly and guard against evil
00:56:11then there is for you a great reward
00:56:15and do not let those who behave niggardly in spending what Allah has granted them of his bounty
00:56:22think that it is good for them
00:56:24nay it is bad for them
00:56:27they shall certainly have the things that they were niggardly about
00:56:31hung about their necks like halters on the day of resurrection
00:56:36and to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth
00:56:41indeed Allah is well aware of all that you do
00:56:46Allah has most certainly heard the words of those who said
00:56:51Allah is poor and we are rich
00:56:54certainly we shall record what they say
00:56:57and their efforts towards seeking to kill the prophets unjustly
00:57:01and we shall say at the time of retribution
00:57:04taste now the punishment of burning
00:57:07this punishment is because of that which your own hands have sent forward
00:57:13and the fact is that Allah is not at all unjust to his servants
00:57:18these are the very Jews who said
00:57:23surely Allah has enjoined us not to believe in any messenger
00:57:27unless he brings us an offering which is consumed by the fire
00:57:32say
00:57:33surely messengers have come to you before me with clear signs
00:57:38and with that of which you speak
00:57:41why then did you seek to kill them
00:57:43if you have been right in your demand
00:57:46but if they cry lies to you
00:57:49you need not be disheartened
00:57:51even so lies were cried to many messengers before you
00:57:55who came with clear signs
00:57:57with the books full of wisdom
00:57:59and with the glorious scripture
00:58:02every living being is destined to taste death
00:58:06and you shall verily be paid in full
00:58:09your rewards on the day of resurrection
00:58:12then whoso is removed away from the fire
00:58:16and is admitted to paradise
00:58:18he has of course successfully attained his goal
00:58:23and the life of this world is nothing but a vain provision
00:58:27causing negligence
00:58:30you shall certainly be tried in your substance and lives
00:58:34and you shall certainly hear from those who were given the scripture before you
00:58:38and from those who set up equals to God
00:58:41a good deal of hurtful abuse
00:58:44but if you are patiently persevering
00:58:47and guard against evil
00:58:49then this attitude is worth being followed with constancy and firm determination
00:58:55recall the time when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the scripture
00:59:01that you must explain the teachings of this scripture to the people and not conceal it
00:59:07but they threw it away behind their backs
00:59:10and accepted a paltry price for it
00:59:14how evil is that which they have chosen
00:59:17you should not think indeed
00:59:21you should not think
00:59:23that those who exult in what they have brought about
00:59:27and love to be praised for what they have not done
00:59:32are secure from punishment
00:59:34rather a woeful punishment awaits them
00:59:38the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah alone
00:59:43and Allah is the possessor of full power to do all that he will
00:59:48surely in the creation of the heavens and the earth
00:59:52and in the alternation of the night and the day
00:59:56there are many signs for people of pure and clear understanding
01:00:01these are the persons who remember Allah standing
01:00:05and sitting and lying on their sides
01:00:09and reflect upon the creation of the heavens and the earth
01:00:13and say
01:00:14our Lord
01:00:16you have not created all this in vain
01:00:20glory be to you
01:00:22save us from the punishment of the fire
01:00:25our Lord
01:00:26whomsoever you cause to enter the fire
01:00:29you have truly disgraced him
01:00:32and there will be none to help these unjust
01:00:36our Lord
01:00:37certainly we heard a crier calling to the faith
01:00:40saying
01:00:41believe in your Lord
01:00:43and we have believed
01:00:45our Lord
01:00:47protect us against the sins
01:00:49and rid us of our evils
01:00:51and cause us to die
01:00:53and after death
01:00:54count us with the virtuous
01:00:56our Lord
01:00:58grant us what you have promised us
01:01:01through your messengers
01:01:02and do not disgrace us on the day of resurrection
01:01:06surely you do not break your promise
01:01:09their Lord then accepted their prayer for them saying
01:01:13I will not most certainly suffer the deed of any doer of good
01:01:18from among you whether male or female to be lost
01:01:22the one of you being as the other
01:01:25hence
01:01:26those who have emigrated
01:01:28and have been driven out of their homes
01:01:30and have been persecuted in my cause
01:01:33and who have fought and been killed
01:01:36surely I will absolve them of their evils
01:01:39and will of course
01:01:40admit them into gardens served with running streams
01:01:44a reward from Allah
01:01:46and Allah with him is the fairest reward to offer
01:01:52do not let the moving about in the land of those who have disbelieved deceive you
01:01:58it is a brief provision
01:02:00then jehenna shall be their abode
01:02:03what an evil place of rest
01:02:07but those who took their Lord as a shield
01:02:10shall have gardens
01:02:12served with running streams
01:02:14therein shall they live forever
01:02:17and entertainment from Allah himself
01:02:20and that which is with Allah
01:02:23is better still for the virtuous
01:02:26there are some among the people of the scripture who believe in Allah
01:02:31and in that which has been revealed to you
01:02:33and in that which has been revealed to them
01:02:36humbling themselves before Allah
01:02:39they barter not the messages of Allah for a paltry price
01:02:43it is these whose reward is due with their Lord
01:02:48indeed Allah is swift in reckoning
01:02:52O you who believe
01:02:54be patiently persevering
01:02:56and strive to excel the disbelievers
01:02:59in being patiently persevering
01:03:01and guard the frontiers
01:03:04and ward off evil
01:03:06and keep your duty to Allah
01:03:09so that you may attain your goal
