00:00:00al nisa the women with the name of allah the most gracious the ever merciful o you people take as a shield your lord who created you from a single being
00:00:16and from the same stock from which he created the man he created his spouse and through them both he caused to spread a large number of men and women
00:00:28o people regard allah with reverence in whose name you appeal to one another and be regardful to the ties of relationship particularly from the female side verily allah ever keeps watch over you
00:00:45and give the orphans their property and substitute not your worthless things for their good one nor consume their property mingling it along with your own property for this indeed is a great sin
00:01:00and if you wish to marry them and you fear that you will not be able to do justice to the orphan girls then marry them not rather marry of women other than these as may be agreeable to you you may marry two or three or four provided you do justice to them
00:01:19but if you fear that you will not be able to deal with all of them equitably then confine yourselves only to one or you may marry that whom your right hands possess your female captives of war that is the best way to avoid doing injustice
00:01:37and give the women their dowers unasked willingly and as agreed gift but if they be pleased to remit you a portion thereof of their own free will then take it with grace and pleasure
00:01:54and do not make over to the weak of understanding your property which allah has made a means of subsistence for you but provide for them their maintenance and clothe them out of its profits and speak to them words of kind advice
00:02:11and keep on testing the orphans until they attain the age of marriage then if you perceive in them sound judgment deliver to them their property and do not consume it extravagantly and hastily as they grow up
00:02:26fearing lest they should claim it when they attain the age of marriage and let him the guardian who can afford to do without let him avoid remuneration
00:02:38but he who is needy may charge reasonable remuneration with equity and when you hand over to them the orphans their property let there be some witnesses to attest and allah is enough as a reckoner and call you to account
00:02:57as the basis of the law of inheritance for men is a share in the property that the parents and the near relations leave behind and the women shall have a share in the property that the parents and the near relations leave behind
00:03:11whether it the property be small or large a determined share ordained by allah and when they are present at the division of the heritage
00:03:22other relatives and the orphans and the needy then give them something out of it and speak to them kind words and let the persons who divide the heritage be afraid of allah for if they leave behind them their own weak offspring they would be anxious on their account
00:03:42let them therefore keep their duty to allah and let them say the right thing verily those who consume the property of the orphans unjustly as a matter of fact feed their bellies with fire and they shall certainly burn in a blazing fire
00:04:02allah prescribes the following law of inheritance for your children for male is the equal of the portion of two females but if they be all females two or more than two for them is two-thirds of what he the deceased has left
00:04:21and if there be only one for her is the half and for his parents for each one of the two is a sixth of what he has left if he the deceased has a child
00:04:36but if he has no child and his parents only be his heirs then for the mother is one-third and the rest two-thirds is for the father
00:04:46but if there be in addition to his parents his brothers and sisters then there is one-sixth for the mother after the payment of any bequest he may have bequeathed
00:04:58or still more important of any debt bequest made by the testator and his debts shall however be satisfied first your fathers and your children you do not know which of them deserve better to benefit from you
00:05:14this fixing of portions is from allah surely allah is all-knowing all-wise and for you is half of that which your wives leave behind if they have no child
00:05:28but if they have a child then for you is one-fourth of what they leave behind after the payment of any bequest that may be bequeathed or still more important of any of their debt
00:05:41and for them your wives is one-fourth of what you leave behind if you have no child but if you leave a child then for them is an eighth of what you leave after the payment of any bequest you have bequeathed
00:05:56or still more important of any debt and if there be a man or a woman whose heritage is to be divided and he or she the deceased has no child and he or she has left behind a brother or a sister
00:06:13then for each one of the twain is a sixth but if they be more than one then they are equal sharers in one-third after the payment of any bequest bequeathed or still more important
00:06:28of any debt provided such bequest made by the testator and the debt shall be without any intent of being harmful to the interest of the heirs
00:06:39this is an injunction from allah and allah is all-knowing most forbearing these are the limits of the law imposed by allah
00:06:50and who obeys allah and his messenger he will admit them into gardens served with running streams therein they shall abide forever and that is a great achievement
00:07:04but whoso disobeys allah and his messenger and transgresses the limits imposed by him he will make him enter fire where he shall abide long and for him is a humiliating punishment
00:07:19as to those of your women who commit sexual perversity call in four of you to witness against them and if they bear witness then confine them to their houses until death overtakes them or allah makes for them a way out
00:07:38and if two of your males commit the same act of indecency then punish them both so if they repent and amend keeping their conduct good then turn aside from them verily allah is oft returning with compassion
00:07:55ever merciful verily allah undertakes to accept the repentance of only those who do evil through lack of knowledge then repent soon after
00:08:07such are the persons towards whom allah turns with mercy and allah is all-knowing all-why
00:08:17but repentance is of no avail to those who go on doing evil deeds until when death visits one of them he says i do repent now
00:08:28nor is it of any use to those who die whilst they are disbelievers it is for such people that we have prepared a woeful punishment
00:08:40o you who believe it is not lawful for you to treat women of your deceased relatives as inherited property by force nor shall you detain them that you may take away part of that which you had given them except that they commit flagrant indecency
00:08:59but consort with them in peace then if you have a dislike for them it may be that you dislike a thing but allah has placed a good deal of good in it
00:09:13and if you desire to take one wife in place of another wife and you have given one of them a huge treasure then take nothing from that which you have given
00:09:25would you take it by false accusation and by committing an open sin and how can you take it when you have already lain with one another and they have bound you down to a firm and solemn covenant by marriage
00:09:41and marry not those women whom your fathers had married except what had already passed for it is a thing highly indecent and repugnant and an evil practice
00:09:57forbidden to you for marriage are your mothers your daughters your sisters your paternal aunts and your maternal aunts and the daughters of a brother and the daughters of a sister and your foster mothers who have given suck to you
00:10:14and your foster sisters and the mothers of your wives and your step-daughters who are being brought up under your care and have been born of your wives by their former husbands unto whom you have gone in
00:10:28but if you have not gone in unto them then there is no blame on you in marrying their daughters and the wives of your sons who are from your own loins
00:10:38and it is forbidden to you to keep in wedlock two sisters at one and the same time except what has already passed surely allah is most protector against faults ever merciful
00:10:54and you are also forbidden to marry already married women who are in wedlock yet those captors in war whom your right hands possess are permitted to you for marriage even if not formally divorced by their former husbands since their captivity is equivalent to divorce
00:11:14this is the law prescribed to you by allah all women beyond those mentioned above are lawful to you provided you seek their hands by means of your wealth by granting dowers marrying them properly and not committing fornication to pursue your lust
00:11:33you shall for the benefits you draw from them by regular marriage pay them such of their dowers as has been fixed there is however no blame on you in increasing or decreasing the amount of dower which you husband and wife mutually agree upon
00:11:51after it has been once fixed surely allah is all-knowing all-wise and those of you who have not the means social or financial to marry free-believing women may marry such of your believing bonds women as your right hands own
00:12:10allah knows very well the state of your faith you are all sprung one from another so marry them with the permission of their guardians and give them their dowers with equity
00:12:23they being properly married not committing fornication to pursue their lust nor taking secret paramours and if after they are married they commit adultery
00:12:35then they incur the punishment of fifty strips which is half of that punishment prescribed for free women this permission to marry a bondswoman is for him among you who fears that otherwise he will fall into sin
00:12:50but it is better for you to exercise restraint allah is indeed great protector ever merciful allah desires to make clear his commandments
00:13:04and guide you to the righteous ways of your predecessors and to turn to you with mercy verily allah is all-knowing all-wise
00:13:15whereas allah desires to turn to you with mercy those who follow the dictates of their lusts want you to drift far away from the right path
00:13:26allah desires that he should lighten the burden of bindings on you for a human being has been created weak
00:13:35o you who believe do not consume your property amongst yourselves by unlawful means
00:13:43rather it be a trade based on free mutual consent and do not kill your people surely allah has been ever merciful to you
00:13:54but whoever does any such thing aggressively and unjustly we shall certainly cast him into fire and this is ever easy for allah
00:14:05if you keep away from major prohibitions to you we will wipe off your preliminary evil and we will admit you to a place and state of great honor
00:14:16and do not covet the favors which allah has bestowed on some of you to excel others men shall have the share of the fruit of their labor and for women is the share of the fruit of their labor
00:14:31you had better seek from allah his bounty verily allah has perfect knowledge of all things we have appointed heirs to every one respecting that which the parents and the near relatives leave behind
00:14:47and those with whom you have entered into a solemn covenant so give them their due surely allah is ever a witness over everything
00:14:58men are the full maintainers of women because allah has made one of them excel the other and because men spend out of their wealth on them
00:15:08so virtuous women are those who are obedient to allah and guard their own chastity as well as the rights and secrets of their husbands even in their absence as allah has guarded the women's rights
00:15:23as for those women on whose part you apprehend disobedience and bad behavior you may admonish them first lovingly and then refuse to share their beds with them and as a last resort punish them mildly
00:15:39if they then obey you you shall seek no other way against them indeed allah alone is high and great
00:15:50but if you apprehend a breach between the two then appoint one arbiter from his people and one arbiter from her people if the two have a mind to effect reconciliation
00:16:03allah will bring it about between them verily allah is all-knowing all aware and worship allah and associate naught with him
00:16:14and be good to parents and near of kin and orphans and the needy and to the neighbor who is related to you and the neighbor who is an alien and to the companion by your side
00:16:27and the wayfarer and those whom your right hands possess surely allah does not love those who are arrogant and boastful
00:16:36regarding those who practice niggardliness and counsel human beings to be niggardly and conceal that which allah has given them
00:16:46out of his bounty and grace we have in store a humiliating punishment for such thankless people
00:16:53as well as for those who spend their wealth for public show and do not believe in allah in the last day
00:17:01and whoso has satan for his companion let him bear in mind that an evil companion he is
00:17:08why what harm could come to them if they believed in allah and in the last day and spent from that which allah had provided them
00:17:18indeed allah knows them full well
00:17:23verily allah does not do injustice not even so much as the weight of an atom and if there be a single good deed he multiplies it
00:17:34and gives from himself a great reward
00:17:39how then shall these wrongdoers fare when we call a witness from every nation
00:17:44and when we call you o prophet to stand witness over these followers of yours
00:17:50on that day those who disbelieved and disobeyed the messenger would wish that the earth were made level with them
00:17:57they shall not be able to conceal anything from allah
00:18:03o you who believe do not go near prayer when you are not in full possession of your senses until you understand all that you say
00:18:13nor occupy yourselves in prayer when you are unclean and under an obligation to have a bath
00:18:20until you have bathed yourselves
00:18:23but if you can do without a bath when you are travelling along a way if you are taken ill or are on a journey or if one of you comes from the privy
00:18:35or if you have had sexual contact with women and you find no water for bathing or ablution then have recourse to pure and clean dust and wipe your faces and your hands therewith
00:18:48indeed allah is most benign great protector
00:18:54have you not considered the case of those who were given a portion of the scripture they prefer to go astray and desire that you too go astray from the right path
00:19:05and allah knows your enemies full well
00:19:09and allah suffices as a patron
00:19:11and allah suffices as a helper
00:19:15these enemies of yours are of those who are judaized they tear the words from their context and say we hear and we disobey and say lend us an ear o you to whom no one would lend an ear and say raina
00:19:35giving a slight twist to their tongues while pronouncing the word and thereby slandering the true meanings and thus making a play with the word and seeking to injure the faith
00:19:47it would have been better and more upright on their part to have said we hear and we obey and lend us an ear and un zirna we beg your attention
00:20:01allah has disapproved of them because of their disbelief so that they will not believe accepting a few of them
00:20:10o you who have been given the scripture believe in the quran which we have now revealed fulfilling such prophecies as you have
00:20:20before we make extinct and destroy some of your leaders and deprive them of the glory
00:20:26or we condemn them as we condemned the people of the sabbath breakers
00:20:31and remember the decree of allah is bound to be executed
00:20:36surely allah does not forgive unless a sinner turns to him in repentance
00:20:42that a partner be associated with him but he forgives everything short of it to whomsoever he will
00:20:50and whoso associates a partner with allah has indeed committed a very great sin
00:20:58have you not considered those who assert themselves to be pure nay only allah purifies whom he will
00:21:07and they shall not be treated unjustly not even a whit
00:21:13behold how they forge lies against allah and sufficient is that as a very flagrant sin to prove their sinfulness
00:21:25have you not considered the case of those who were given a portion of the scripture
00:21:30they believe in nonsensical things devoid of good and follow those who transgress
00:21:37and they say of those who disbelieve these are better guided in the right way than those who believe in islam
00:21:44it is these whom allah has deprived of his blessings
00:21:49and he whom allah deprives of his blessings you will never find for him any helper
00:21:56they have no share in the kingdom
00:21:59if they had they would not give the people even so much as the little groove in a date stone
00:22:06or do they feel jealous of the people for which allah has granted them out of his bounty and grace
00:22:13let them remember we surely gave the children of abraham the scripture and the wisdom
00:22:19and we also gave them a grand kingdom
00:22:22there are some among them who believe in it
00:22:26and there are others among them who turn away from it
00:22:30and jehenna shall suffice for burning those who turn away
00:22:35we shall soon cast into fire all those who deny our messages
00:22:42as often as their skins are burnt up we will replace them with other new skins
00:22:47that they may continually taste agony of punishment
00:22:51surely allah is almighty all-wise
00:22:56and those who believe and do righteous deeds we shall certainly admit them to gardens served with running streams
00:23:06they shall abide therein forever
00:23:09there shall be for them to keep them company therein spiritually and physically purified companions
00:23:16and we shall admit them to a place of thick and pleasant shades of our mercy and protection
00:23:23surely allah commands you to make over the trust such as the affairs of the state to those who are competent to it
00:23:33and that when you judge between people you should judge with justice
00:23:38that which allah exhorts you to do is best indeed allah is all-hearing all-seeing
00:23:47o you who believe obey allah and obey his messenger and those who are in authority among you
00:23:57and should you differ among yourselves in anything refer it to allah and his messenger
00:24:03if indeed you believe in allah and the last day that is in your best interest and most commendable in the long run
00:24:13have you not considered the case of those who assert that they believe in what has been revealed to you
00:24:20and what has been revealed before you
00:24:23on the contrary
00:24:25they desire to refer their disputes for judgment to the transgressor
00:24:29whereas they were commanded to reject him
00:24:32and satan desires to lead them astray
00:24:35to a far-off strain
00:24:37and when it is said to them
00:24:40come to follow that which allah has revealed and to the perfect messenger
00:24:45you can see the hypocrites turn away from you with aversion
00:24:49then how is it that when a calamity befalls them
00:24:53because of their own misdoings
00:24:55they come to you swearing by allah saying
00:24:58we meant nothing but to do good
00:25:01and to effect concord and reconciliation
00:25:06it is they to whom allah knows what is in their hearts
00:25:10so turn aside from them
00:25:12and admonish them
00:25:14and speak to them with regard to their own selves
00:25:17an effective word
00:25:20and we have sent no messenger
00:25:23but that he should be obeyed by the leave of allah
00:25:26had they when they had acted contrary to their own interests
00:25:31come to you and sought the protection of allah
00:25:34and had this perfect messenger also sought protection for them
00:25:38they would have surely found allah oft returning with compassion
00:25:42ever merciful
00:25:44but no not so as they have asserted by your lord
00:25:49they are no believers at all unless they refer all their disputes to you for judgment
00:25:55then they do not find any demur in their minds about the propriety of your judgment
00:26:01and they submit to your decisions with entire submission
00:26:06if we had made it binding on them lay down your lives or go out of your homes
00:26:12they would not have done it excepting a few of them
00:26:16and if they had done what they are exhorted to do
00:26:20it would surely have been better for them
00:26:22and conducive to a greater strength in their faith
00:26:26and in that case we could certainly have bestowed upon them from ourself a great reward
00:26:34and we would have surely guided them to the exact right path
00:26:40and those who obey allah and this perfect messenger
00:26:44it is these who are with those upon whom allah has bestowed his blessings in this life and the hereafter
00:26:51the prophets
00:26:53the truthful in their belief words and deeds
00:26:56and the bearers of testimony to the truth of the religion of allah by their words and deeds
00:27:02as well as the martyrs and the righteous who stick to the right course under all circumstances
00:27:09and how excellent companions they are
00:27:13this is the grace from Allah
00:27:16and Allah suffices as one who is all-knowing
00:27:20O you who believe
00:27:23take your precautions always by way of security
00:27:27then either march forward in separate companies
00:27:30or march forward in a body according to the requirement of the war situation
00:27:36and indeed there is among you
00:27:38who tarries behind
00:27:40and does not leave to fight in the cause of Allah
00:27:44then if a calamity befalls you
00:27:46he says
00:27:47Allah has been gracious to me indeed
00:27:50since I was not present with them
00:27:53and if some good fortune comes to you from Allah
00:27:56he would cry
00:27:58as if there were no friendship between you and him
00:28:01would that I had been with them
00:28:03had it been so
00:28:05I should have indeed
00:28:07achieved a great success
00:28:10let those who would prefer the hereafter to the present life
00:28:14fight in the cause of Allah
00:28:17and whoso fights in the cause of Allah
00:28:21and is killed or conquers
00:28:23we shall soon grant him a great reward
00:28:26what excuse have you to offer that you would not fight in the cause of Allah
00:28:32and for the rescue of the weak and the downtrodden men and women and the children who all say
00:28:37our Lord take us out of this town
00:28:40of which the people are tyrants
00:28:42and grant us a defender who comes from you
00:28:45and a helper by your own grace
00:28:48those who believe fight in the cause of Allah
00:28:52and those who choose disbelief
00:28:54fight in the cause of the transgressor
00:28:56fight you therefore against the friends of Satan
00:29:00surely the stratagem of Satan is ever weak
00:29:05have you not considered those to whom it was said
00:29:09withhold your hands from fighting
00:29:12and keep up prayer
00:29:14and go on presenting the zakat
00:29:16but now when fighting has been made binding upon them
00:29:20a section of them
00:29:22the hypocrites
00:29:23begin to fear the people as they should fear Allah
00:29:26or with a still stronger fear
00:29:30and they say
00:29:31our Lord
00:29:32why have you made fighting binding upon us
00:29:35would you not defer us to a near term
00:29:38and grant us a little respite
00:29:40say
00:29:41the enjoyment of this world is short
00:29:44and negligible its pleasures
00:29:46and the hereafter is better for him
00:29:49who guards against evil
00:29:51and keeps his duty to Allah
00:29:53and you shall not be done injustice to
00:29:56not even a whit
00:29:58death will overtake you wherever you may be
00:30:02even if you be in strongly built castles
00:30:05and if any good occurs to them
00:30:08they say
00:30:09this is from Allah
00:30:11and if evil befalls them they say
00:30:14this is from you
00:30:16say
00:30:17everything is from Allah
00:30:19what is the matter with these people
00:30:21that they hardly understand
00:30:24whatever good comes to you O people
00:30:27is from Allah
00:30:28and whatever evil befalls you
00:30:30is from your own selves
00:30:32and we have sent you O Muhammad
00:30:34as a great messenger for the good of all humankind
00:30:38and Allah suffices as a witness
00:30:42he that obeys this perfect messenger
00:30:44surely has obeyed Allah
00:30:47as for those who turn away
00:30:49then we have not sent you as a guardian over them
00:30:54and they the hypocrites say in your presence
00:30:58we stand for obedience
00:31:00but when they sally forth from your presence
00:31:03a party of them spend the night scheming contrary to what you say
00:31:07and Allah is keeping a record of whatever they scheme by night
00:31:12so turn away from them
00:31:14and put your trust in Allah
00:31:17and Allah suffices as a disposer of affairs
00:31:22why do they not ponder over the Quran
00:31:26had it been from anyone other than Allah
00:31:29they would surely have found a good deal of inconsistency therein
00:31:34and when there comes to them news
00:31:37be it a matter of peace or of fear
00:31:40they spread it around
00:31:41but had they referred it to the perfect messenger
00:31:45and to those in authority among them
00:31:47surely those of them who can elicit the truth from it
00:31:51would have understood it and could make correct deductions
00:31:55and had it not been for the grace of Allah upon you
00:32:00and his mercy
00:32:01you would have all followed Satan
00:32:04excepting a few
00:32:07Prophet
00:32:08fight therefore in the cause of Allah
00:32:11you are made responsible only for your own self
00:32:15and urge on the faithful to fight a war in self-defense
00:32:20it may be Allah will restrain the fury of those who have chosen disbelief
00:32:27Allah is mightier in prowess
00:32:30and stronger in inflicting exemplary punishment
00:32:33and he who participates with others in doing good
00:32:37there shall be for him a share in its credit
00:32:41and he who participates with anyone in doing evil
00:32:45and intercedes for a wrongful cause
00:32:47has a like portion in its evil consequences
00:32:51and Allah controls the distribution of all things
00:32:56and whenever you are greeted with a prayer
00:32:59greet with a better prayer
00:33:01or at least return the same
00:33:03verily Allah takes account of everything
00:33:07Allah is he
00:33:09there is no other
00:33:11cannot be
00:33:12and will never be one worthy of worship but he
00:33:14he will most certainly continue to assemble you till the day of resurrection
00:33:20there is no doubt about the advent of it
00:33:23and there is none more truthful to his word
00:33:27than Allah
00:33:29how is it then with you
00:33:32that you are divided into two parties regarding the hypocrites
00:33:36while Allah has overthrown them for their sins
00:33:39which they committed knowingly
00:33:40do you desire to guide him whom Allah has forsaken
00:33:46and he whom Allah forsakes
00:33:49you shall not find for him a way of his deliverance
00:33:54they would like you to reject the faith
00:33:58as they have done themselves
00:34:00that you may be all alike
00:34:03therefore make no friends with them
00:34:05until they emigrate in the cause of Allah
00:34:09but if they turn back to hostility
00:34:12then capture them and kill them wherever you find them
00:34:15and do not take any of them as a friend or as a helper
00:34:20different however
00:34:22is the case of those who join a people with whom you have a pact
00:34:26or of those who come over to you
00:34:29whilst their hearts are constricted from fighting against you
00:34:31or fighting against their own people
00:34:35if Allah had so willed
00:34:37he would have given them power over you
00:34:40then they certainly would have fought against you
00:34:43hence
00:34:45if they leave you alone and do not fight against you
00:34:48but make you an offer of peace
00:34:50then Allah allows you no way of fighting against them
00:34:54you will find others among these hypocrites
00:34:58who desire to be secure from you
00:35:00as well as safe from their own people
00:35:03but whenever they are made to have a recourse to hostility towards the Muslims
00:35:08they fall headlong into it as if under compulsion
00:35:12therefore if they do not leave you alone
00:35:15nor make an offer of peace to you
00:35:18nor withhold their hands from being hostile
00:35:20then capture them and kill them wherever you find them
00:35:25and it is these against whom we have given you absolute authority
00:35:32it is not befitting for a believer to kill another believer
00:35:36except what happens by mistake
00:35:39and he who kills a believer by mistake
00:35:42let him set a believing captive of war free
00:35:45and pay blood money to be handed over to the heirs of the deceased
00:35:50unless they the heirs forego it as a free-will offering
00:35:55but if he the slain is a believer belonging to a people hostile to you
00:36:02then there is still only the penance of freeing a believing captive of war
00:36:07and if he the slain belongs to a people with whom you have a pact
00:36:12then there is the payment of blood money
00:36:15to be handed over to his heirs
00:36:18and also the freeing of a believing captive of war
00:36:21but he who does not find the means to set free a captive of war
00:36:25shall fast two consecutive months
00:36:28a method of penance devised by Allah
00:36:31and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise
00:36:34and whoever kills a believer intentionally
00:36:39his recompense is Jahannah
00:36:41he shall abide therein
00:36:43Allah has shown his displeasure against him
00:36:47and has also deprived him of his blessings
00:36:50and prepared for him a great punishment
00:36:53O you who believe
00:36:56when you set forth in the cause of Allah
00:36:59then make proper investigations
00:37:02before you dub anyone as a disbeliever
00:37:05and do not say to him who offers you salam
00:37:08you are not a believer
00:37:11you seek the transitory goods of this life
00:37:15but Allah has good things in plenty with him
00:37:18you were such disbelievers before that
00:37:22but Allah has conferred his special favor on you
00:37:25hence do make proper investigations
00:37:29surely Allah is well aware of what you do
00:37:32such of the disbelievers as stay at home
00:37:36accepting the disabled ones
00:37:39and those who strive in the cause of Allah
00:37:42with their substance and their lives
00:37:45are not equal
00:37:47Allah has exalted in rank
00:37:49those who strive in his cause
00:37:51with their substance and their lives
00:37:53above those who stay at home
00:37:55and yet to each one Allah has promised good
00:37:59but Allah has indeed granted eminence
00:38:02to those who strive in his cause
00:38:04over those who stay at home
00:38:06by giving them much better reward
00:38:10it will consist of exalted ranks
00:38:13bestowed by him and his protection and mercy
00:38:17for Allah is great protector ever merciful
00:38:20surely the angels will ask those whom they caused to die
00:38:27while they were acting unjustly towards themselves
00:38:31what circumstances were you in that you did not avow Islam openly
00:38:36they will reply
00:38:38we were treated as weak in the country
00:38:41they the angels will say
00:38:42was not Allah's earth spacious enough for you
00:38:46to have emigrated therein
00:38:48it is these whose abode shall be jehenna
00:38:51and an evil destination it is
00:38:54different however
00:38:56is the case of those actually weak men
00:38:59women and children
00:39:01who can find no device
00:39:03nor means to emigrate
00:39:04as to these Allah may pardon them for their helplessness
00:39:09for Allah is the effacer of sins
00:39:12most forgiving
00:39:14and whoso emigrates in the cause of Allah
00:39:18will find in the earth an abundant place of refuge and plenty of resources
00:39:22and whoso sets forth from his home
00:39:25emigrating in the cause of Allah and his messenger
00:39:29then death overtakes him
00:39:31he shall have his reward with Allah for sure
00:39:34Allah is great protector
00:39:36ever merciful
00:39:38and when you are journeying in the land
00:39:41there is no blame on you that you shorten the prayer
00:39:44if you fear that those who disbelieve may give you trouble
00:39:48verily the disbelievers are your open enemies
00:39:52and prophet
00:39:54when you are amongst them
00:39:56leading the prayer for them
00:39:58let a party of them join you in prayer
00:40:00retaining their arms
00:40:02when they have performed their prostrations
00:40:05let them take their positions at the rear of the main body for protection
00:40:10and let another party who have not yet said prayer
00:40:14come forward and join prayer with you
00:40:16taking their necessary precautions of defense
00:40:19and retaining their arms
00:40:20those who have disbelieved would wish you to be heedless of your arms
00:40:26and stores so that they may fall upon you united and all of a sudden
00:40:32and there is no blame on you if you are suffering inconvenience on account of rain
00:40:36or if you are taken ill
00:40:39that you lay aside your arms relieving yourselves
00:40:43but even then you must take your necessary precautions of defense
00:40:48verily Allah has prepared a humiliating punishment for the disbelievers
00:40:53and when you have finished the prayer
00:40:57then remember Allah standing and sitting and lying on your sides
00:41:03and when you feel secure from danger
00:41:06then observe prayer
00:41:08in the normal prescribed form
00:41:10verily prayer is enjoined on the believers
00:41:15to be performed at the fixed times
00:41:18and do not be slack in pursuing these hostile people
00:41:23if you have suffered hardships
00:41:26they too have suffered as you did
00:41:28but the superiority you have over them
00:41:29is that you hope from Allah what they do not
00:41:33and Allah is all-knowing
00:41:35all-wise
00:41:37we have surely revealed to you this perfect book
00:41:41comprising the truth
00:41:43that you judge between the people enlightened
00:41:45by that knowledge which Allah has given you
00:41:48and do not become a partisan of the dishonest
00:41:51and seek protection of Allah
00:41:54verily Allah is great protector
00:41:57ever merciful
00:41:59and do not plead on behalf of those who act dishonestly towards themselves
00:42:05surely Allah does not love him who is given to dishonest ways
00:42:10and is a great sinner
00:42:12they seek to hide their crimes from the people
00:42:17but they cannot hide from Allah
00:42:18and he is present with them when they pass the night
00:42:23in holding discourses which does not please him
00:42:26and Allah encompasses all that they do
00:42:30behold you are of those who may plead on their behalf in the present life
00:42:36but who will plead on their behalf with Allah on the day of resurrection
00:42:41or who will be a disposer of their affairs
00:42:43and whoever commits evil and does injustice to himself
00:42:49and then asks forgiveness of Allah
00:42:53will find Allah most forgiving
00:42:55ever merciful
00:42:57and whoever commits a sin deliberately
00:43:00commits it only against himself
00:43:02Allah is all-knowing
00:43:05all-wise
00:43:06but one who commits a fault or a sin
00:43:10and imputes it to another innocent person
00:43:13for the sake of his own defense
00:43:15he certainly bears the burden of calumny
00:43:18along with that of a flagrant sin
00:43:21prophet
00:43:23a party of those who are false to themselves
00:43:26had certainly made up their minds to ruin you
00:43:30but for the grace of Allah and his mercy upon you
00:43:33they ruin none but themselves
00:43:35and they can do you no harm
00:43:38and Allah has revealed to you this perfect book
00:43:41and the wisdom
00:43:43and has taught you that which you did not know
00:43:47Allah's favor upon you is great indeed
00:43:51and you enjoy his protection in temporal as well as in spiritual matters
00:43:56there is no good in many of their secret conferences
00:44:01but good lies only in the secret deliberations of those who enjoy charity
00:44:06equitable dealings
00:44:08or making peace between people
00:44:10and whoso does that
00:44:12seeking the pleasure of Allah
00:44:14we shall bestow a great reward on him
00:44:17and as to him who opposes the messenger in a hostile manner
00:44:22after true guidance has become clear to him
00:44:25and follows a way other than that of the believers
00:44:28we will let him pursue the way which he is himself pursuing
00:44:32and shall cast him into Jahannah
00:44:36and an evil destination it is
00:44:39Allah does not forgive without repentance on the part of the sinner
00:44:44that a partner should be associated with him
00:44:47though he forgives everything short of that to whomsoever he will
00:44:51and he who associates a partner with Allah
00:44:55has strayed indeed a far-off strain
00:44:58whatever they the polytheists call on besides him
00:45:03are none but lifeless objects and false deities
00:45:07in fact they call on none but Satan the rebellious
00:45:12whom Allah has deprived of his blessings
00:45:16and who had said I shall certainly take from your servants an appointed portion
00:45:22and certainly I will lead them astray
00:45:26and assuredly I will arouse vain desires in them
00:45:30and I will incite them to polytheistic practices
00:45:33and they will slit the ears of cattle
00:45:36as a mark of their dedication to the deities
00:45:39and I will most assuredly make them change for the worse
00:45:43the things created by Allah
00:45:44and he who takes this Satan to him for a friend
00:45:50rather than Allah
00:45:52has of course suffered an evident loss
00:45:55he, Satan, holds out promises to them
00:46:00and arouses false hopes in them
00:46:02but Satan promises nothing but vain things to them
00:46:06it is these his dupes
00:46:10whose abode is Jehannah
00:46:12and they shall find no way of escape from it
00:46:15and those who believe and do deeds of righteousness
00:46:19we will certainly admit them into gardens
00:46:22served with running streams
00:46:24there they shall abide forever
00:46:27Allah's promise is unfailing
00:46:30and who is more truthful than Allah in word
00:46:33O people
00:46:37it shall not be according to your vain desires
00:46:40nor according to the vain desires of the people of the scripture
00:46:44he who does evil shall be recompensed accordingly
00:46:48and he shall find for himself
00:46:50no patron nor a helper besides Allah
00:46:54but whosoever does deeds of righteousness
00:46:58be it male or female
00:47:00provided he or she is a believer
00:47:03it is these then who shall enter paradise
00:47:07and shall not be treated unjustly
00:47:10even so much as the groove in a date stone
00:47:13and who is better in faith
00:47:17than one who submits his whole attention to Allah
00:47:21and he is a doer of good to others
00:47:24and follows the religion of Abraham the upright
00:47:26and Allah had taken Abraham for a special friend
00:47:32and to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens
00:47:36and whatever is in the earth
00:47:38and Allah encompasses each and every thing
00:47:42and they seek your ruling with regard to marrying women having no husbands
00:47:47say Allah gives you his ruling about them
00:47:51and he reminds you the ruling as has already been mentioned to you in this book regarding women without husbands
00:47:58to whom you do not give their rights prescribed for them
00:48:02yet you feel inclined to get them in marriage with a mind to take over their belongings
00:48:07and the ruling is also regarding the helpless children
00:48:12he enjoins you to stand firm in observing equity towards the orphans
00:48:17and remember whatever good you do Allah knows it very well
00:48:23and if a woman fears high handedness or indifference on the part of her husband
00:48:28then there is no blame on them both that they may be amicably reconciled to each other
00:48:33and reconciliation is the best
00:48:36and covetousness and greed is ever present in human minds
00:48:41but if you do good and guard against this evil
00:48:45you will find that Allah is well aware of what you do
00:48:48it is not within your power as far as natural feelings of love and devotion are concerned
00:48:55to maintain perfect balance between wives
00:48:59and to treat them with equal justice even though you be ever so eager
00:49:03but do not incline with a total inclination towards one
00:49:08so that you completely sever your relations with the other
00:49:11so as to leave her like something suspended as virtually deserted
00:49:16and if you keep things right
00:49:20and guard against evil
00:49:22then surely Allah is great protector
00:49:25ever merciful
00:49:27and if they the husband and the wife
00:49:30choose to separate through divorce obtained by either of them
00:49:33Allah will make both independent and free from want
00:49:37out of his bounty
00:49:39and Allah is all bountiful
00:49:41ever wise
00:49:42and to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens
00:49:48and whatever is in the earth
00:49:50and we enjoined those who were given the scripture before you
00:49:54and we enjoined you also to take Allah as a shield
00:49:58and keep your duty to him
00:50:00but if you disobey
00:50:02then remember that
00:50:04to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens
00:50:06and whatever is in the earth
00:50:08and Allah is self-sufficient
00:50:09praiseworthy
00:50:11and to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens
00:50:15and whatever is in the earth
00:50:17and sufficient is Allah as a disposer of affairs
00:50:22if he so will
00:50:24he can make you pass away O people
00:50:27and bring in another people in your stead
00:50:30and Allah is possessor of power to do all this
00:50:34whosoever seeks the reward of this world
00:50:38let him know that the reward of this world
00:50:41and that of the hereafter is with Allah
00:50:44Allah is all hearing all seeing
00:50:47O you who believe
00:50:49be strict observers of justice
00:50:52bearers of true evidence for the sake of Allah
00:50:55even though it be against yourselves
00:50:57or against your parents or nearer of kin
00:51:00let neither of the parties
00:51:03whether the one against whom
00:51:05or the one in favor of whom you bear evidence
00:51:08be rich or poor
00:51:10bear in mind Allah is more regardful of them both
00:51:13than you are
00:51:15therefore do not follow your low desires
00:51:18in order to be able to do justice
00:51:20and if you distort or evade true evidence
00:51:24remember Allah is well aware of what you do
00:51:27O you who believe
00:51:31maintain faith in Allah and in his messenger
00:51:34and in this perfect book
00:51:36which he has revealed to his perfect messenger
00:51:39and in the scripture he revealed before
00:51:42and whoso denies Allah and his angels
00:51:46and his books and his messengers
00:51:48and the last day
00:51:50he has indeed strayed far away from the truth
00:51:53verily those who believed
00:51:56and then disbelieved
00:51:58again believed
00:52:00again disbelieved
00:52:02and then became worse in disbelief
00:52:04it is not for Allah to pardon them
00:52:07nor to guide them in the right way
00:52:09tell the hypocrites clearly
00:52:12that a woeful punishment awaits them
00:52:14do those who hold the disbelievers for friends
00:52:18to the exclusion of the believers
00:52:21seek honor at their hands
00:52:23let them remember that all honor truly belongs to Allah alone
00:52:28and he has already revealed to you in this book
00:52:32the commandment that when you hear Allah's messages being denied
00:52:37and being ridiculed
00:52:38you should not sit with such absurd people
00:52:41unless they engage in a topic other than that
00:52:44for in case you do not leave their company
00:52:47you will indeed be like them
00:52:50Allah is going to assemble the hypocrites
00:52:53and the disbelievers in jehenna one and all
00:52:57those hypocrites who await news about you
00:53:02then if you win a victory by the grace of Allah
00:53:05they say
00:53:07is it not that we were with you and on your side
00:53:10but should there be for the disbelievers a share of it
00:53:14they will say
00:53:16did we not go to you to wage war
00:53:18and did we not save you from the harm of the faithful
00:53:22then Allah will judge between you on the day of resurrection
00:53:25and Allah will never let the disbelievers have a way to prevail against the believers
00:53:32verily the hypocrites abandon Allah
00:53:36but he will abandon them
00:53:38and when they stand up for prayer
00:53:41they stand listlessly
00:53:43to show off to the people that they worship
00:53:47yet they remember Allah but little
00:53:50wavering between that
00:53:52belonging neither to these nor to those
00:53:56and he whom Allah causes to be ruined
00:53:59you shall not find a way of escape for him
00:54:03O you who believe
00:54:05do not take disbelievers for friends to the exclusion of believers
00:54:10do you mean to provide Allah with clear plea against yourselves
00:54:14the hypocrites shall surely be in the lowest reaches of the fire
00:54:18you shall never find any helper for them
00:54:23yet such of these
00:54:25who turn with sincere repentance
00:54:28and amend themselves
00:54:30and hold fast to Allah
00:54:32and become sincere in their allegiance to Allah
00:54:35it is these who are with the believers
00:54:37and Allah will soon grant these believers a great reward
00:54:41what Allah has to do with punishing you
00:54:43if you be grateful to him and believe in him
00:54:48Allah is ever appreciative
00:54:50all-knowing
00:54:54Allah does not like the public utterance of the hurtful speech
00:54:58except it is by one who has been done injustice to
00:55:02and Allah is all-hearing
00:55:04all-knowing
00:55:06if you do a good deed openly
00:55:09or do it in private
00:55:11or pardon an injury done to you
00:55:13remember Allah is ever pardoning
00:55:16all-powerful
00:55:18verily those who disbelieve in Allah
00:55:21and his messengers
00:55:23or while believing choose to make a distinction between Allah and his messengers
00:55:27and say we believe in some
00:55:30and disbelieve in others
00:55:31intending to strike a course in between
00:55:35it is these who are veritable disbelievers
00:55:39and we have prepared a humiliating punishment for such disbelievers
00:55:44on the other hand
00:55:46those who believe in Allah and all of his messengers
00:55:50and while believing make no distinction between any of them
00:55:54it is to these whom we will soon give their rewards
00:55:57indeed Allah is great protector
00:56:00ever merciful
00:56:02the people of the scripture ask you to bring down upon them a book from the heaven
00:56:08they made a more wicked and greater demand than that from Moses
00:56:13when they said
00:56:15show us Allah openly
00:56:17face to face
00:56:19then a destructive punishment overtook them for their wrongdoing
00:56:23then they took the calf for worship
00:56:26after clear commandments had come to them
00:56:29but we pardoned them even after that
00:56:32and we gave Moses an undisputed authority
00:56:36and we raised the mount above them
00:56:39while taking their covenant at the foot of the mount
00:56:42and we said to them
00:56:44enter the gate of the town submissively
00:56:47and we said to them
00:56:48do not violate the law of Sabbath
00:56:52and we took from them a solemn covenant
00:56:55then because of their breaking the covenant
00:56:58and their denial of the messages of Allah
00:57:01and their antagonizing the prophets without a just cause
00:57:05and their saying
00:57:07our hearts are uncircumcised
00:57:09and so cannot hear
00:57:11nay the truth however is
00:57:13Allah has set a seal upon their hearts
00:57:16because of their disbelief
00:57:19so that they believe but a little
00:57:21and the Lord has done this because of their denying Jesus
00:57:26and because of their uttering a great calumny against Mary
00:57:30and because of their falsely claiming
00:57:33we did kill the Messiah Jesus son of Mary
00:57:37the false messenger of Allah
00:57:39whereas they killed him not
00:57:41nor did they cause his death by crucifixion
00:57:43but he was made to them to resemble one crucified to death
00:57:49verily those who differ therein
00:57:52are certainly in a state of confusion about it
00:57:55they have no definite knowledge of the matter
00:57:58but are only following a conjecture
00:58:01they did not kill him
00:58:03this much is certain
00:58:05rather Allah exalted him with all honor to his presence
00:58:10and Allah is almighty
00:58:13all wise
00:58:15and there is none from among the people of the scripture
00:58:19but most certainly will believe in this incident
00:58:22that Jesus died on the cross before his death
00:58:25while as a matter of fact
00:58:27they have no sure knowledge about Jesus dying on the cross
00:58:31and on the day of resurrection
00:58:33he, Jesus, will be a witness against them
00:58:36then by way of punishing them
00:58:41on account of the transgression of those who Judaized
00:58:44we made unlawful to them certain of the good and pure things
00:58:48which had been allowed to them before
00:58:51and that too on account of their causing hindrances to many
00:58:55from Allah's way
00:58:57and also on account of their taking interest and usury
00:59:00though they were forbidden it
00:59:02and because of their misappropriating people's belongings
00:59:06and we have prepared a woeful punishment for those among them who disbelieve
00:59:11but those from among them who are firmly grounded in knowledge
00:59:16and the faithful who believe in that divine message which has been revealed to you
00:59:21and that which was revealed before you
00:59:24and especially the observers of prayers
00:59:26and those who go on presenting the zakat
00:59:30and believe in Allah in the last day
00:59:33it is they we will certainly bestow on them a great reward
00:59:38surely we have sent down our revelation to you
00:59:43as we sent it down to Noah
00:59:45and the prophets who came after him
00:59:47and we sent revelation to Abraham
00:59:50Ismael
00:59:52Isaac
00:59:54Jacob
00:59:55and his children
00:59:57and to Jesus
00:59:59Job
01:00:00Jonah
01:00:02Aaron
01:00:04and Solomon
01:00:06and we gave David a scripture
01:00:08and there are some messengers whom we have mentioned to you before
01:00:10and many messengers we have not mentioned them to you
01:00:12and Allah spoke to you as he spoke to Moses in explicit words at great length
01:00:18all these messengers were bearers of good tidings to the believers
01:00:23and warners to the disbelievers
01:00:26and were sent so that people may have no plea against Allah after the advent of the messengers
01:00:32and Allah is almighty all wise
01:00:35they deny the Quran
01:00:37but Allah himself bears witness through his revelation to you
01:00:41that he has revealed it
01:00:43with his knowledge
01:00:45and the angels bear witness as well
01:00:48yet Allah suffices for a witness
01:00:52those who disbelieve
01:00:55and hinder others from following Allah's way
01:00:58have indeed strayed a far off strain
01:01:00those who have disbelieved
01:01:05and have associated partners with him
01:01:07it is not for Allah to protect them
01:01:10nor will he show them any way
01:01:13other than the way leading to Jehannah
01:01:16wherein they shall live for long
01:01:18indeed
01:01:20that would be easy for Allah
01:01:22O people
01:01:24this messenger has indeed come to you with the truth from your Lord
01:01:27so believe
01:01:30it will be better for you
01:01:32but if you disbelieve
01:01:34know that whatever is in the heavens
01:01:37and in the earth belongs to him
01:01:39Allah is ever all knowing
01:01:42all wise
01:01:44O people of the scripture
01:01:47do not go beyond the limits of propriety
01:01:50in the matter of your religion
01:01:52nor say anything regarding Allah
01:01:54except that which is perfectly true
01:01:58the Messiah
01:02:00Jesus
01:02:02son of Mary
01:02:04was only a messenger of Allah
01:02:06and a fulfillment of his word
01:02:08which he communicated to Mary
01:02:10and a mercy from him
01:02:12believe therefore in Allah
01:02:14and in all his messengers
01:02:16and do not say
01:02:18there are three
01:02:20refrain from following this doctrine
01:02:22it will be better for you
01:02:25verily Allah is the one and only
01:02:28worthy of worship
01:02:30he is holy
01:02:32far above having a son
01:02:34to him belongs whatever is in the heavens
01:02:37and whatever is in the earth
01:02:39and Allah suffices as a disposer of affairs
01:02:43the Messiah never disdains to be looked upon
01:02:47as a servant of Allah
01:02:48nor do the angels who are nearest to him
01:02:52consider the fact degrading for themselves
01:02:55and whoever disdains from his service
01:02:59and behaves arrogantly
01:03:01the day will come when he will gather them all together to himself
01:03:05on that day
01:03:07as to those who believed and did deeds of righteousness
01:03:11he will give them their rewards in full
01:03:13and will add to them even more out of his bounty
01:03:17but as for those who disdained to worship God
01:03:21and acted arrogantly
01:03:23he will inflict a woeful punishment on them all
01:03:27and apart from Allah
01:03:29they will find for themselves no patron nor helper
01:03:33O you people
01:03:36a manifest proof has indeed come to you from your Lord
01:03:40and we have sent down a clear light to you
01:03:44which distinguishes the right from the wrong
01:03:48now as to those who believe in Allah and hold fast to him
01:03:53he will surely admit them to his mercy and to his grace
01:03:57and will guide them along a straight and right path leading to himself
01:04:03they ask you of your ruling
01:04:06say
01:04:08Allah gives you his ruling concerning Kalala
01:04:11one who has neither parents left nor a child
01:04:14if a man dies he has no child
01:04:17but leaves only a sister behind
01:04:19then she shall inherit half of what he leaves
01:04:21likewise
01:04:24he the brother who is Kalala
01:04:26shall inherit her whole property
01:04:29if she the sister has no child and dies
01:04:33but if there be two sisters or more
01:04:36then they shall receive two-thirds of what he
01:04:39the brother who is Kalala
01:04:41leaves
01:04:43and if they the survivors be brethren men and women
01:04:47then for the male is the equal of the portion of two females
01:04:50Allah makes his commandments clear to you
01:04:54lest you should err
01:04:56and Allah knows all things well
