00:02The Voluntary Gifts
00:05With the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful
00:11People ask you about the voluntary gifts for the advancement of the cause of Allah.
00:16Say, the voluntary gifts are at the disposal of Allah and His Messenger to administer.
00:22So take Allah as a shield and reconcile your mutual differences and obey Allah and His Messenger if you are
00:32true believers.
00:34Verily, the true believers are only those whose hearts tremble when the name of Allah is mentioned before them
00:40and when His messages are recited to them it increases them in faith and in their Lord only do they
00:48put their trust.
00:50Who observe prayer and go on spending from that which we have provided for them.
00:56It is these who are the believers in truth.
01:00There awaits them with their Lord exalted degrees of rank as well as His protection and an honorable provision.
01:09This reward is because your Lord brought you forth from your house for the battle of Badr for a righteous
01:16purpose
01:16even though a party of the believers considered it very difficult.
01:22These disbelievers disputed with you concerning the truth of Islam after it had been made clear by signs and proofs.
01:29On being invited to accept Islam they were behaving as though they were being driven towards death
01:36but they will actually be facing death very soon.
01:41And O companions of the Prophet, recall the time when Allah promised you victory over one of the two enemy
01:48parties
01:49the well-equipped Meccan army and the other ill-equipped caravan from Syria
01:55that it should be yours for fighting against
01:58while you wanted the unarmed party to fall into your hands to get an easy victory
02:03but Allah wanted to establish the truth by fulfilling His words of prophecy
02:08and to cut off the very root of the disbelievers
02:12so that He might establish the truth and wipe out the falsehood
02:17though those who had cut their ties with Allah considered it hard.
02:23Recall the time when you, O companions of the Prophet
02:26implored your Lord to aid you in distress
02:29and He responded to you saying
02:31I shall reinforce you with a thousand of the angels coming in continuous succession
02:38and Allah made this only as good tidings of your victory
02:43and that was so that your hearts might thereby be at rest
02:47for in any case victory comes only by the help of Allah
02:51verily Allah is almighty, all-wise.
02:57Recall the time when He caused a sort of slumber to prevail upon you
03:02to give you a sense of peaceful security from Himself
03:05and He sent down upon you water from the clouds
03:09that He might thereby purify you
03:11and remove from you the scourge of Satan
03:14that He might strengthen your hearts
03:17and thereby make your feet firm and strong.
03:20It was the time when your Lord revealed to the angels
03:24to convey to the believers
03:26I am with you
03:28and He commanded the angels to make those who believe
03:31stand firm and fast
03:33and O believers
03:34I will indeed strike terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve
03:39So smite on your enemies' necks and above these
03:43and strike off all their fingertips
03:47This punishment is given them
03:49because they have cut themselves off from Allah and His Messenger
03:54and whosoever opposes Allah and His Messenger
03:57as its result Allah too is severe in punishment to such
04:03That is your punishment
04:05so suffer some of it in this life
04:07and know that in the hereafter
04:09there awaits the disbelievers the torment of the fire
04:14O you who believe
04:15when you meet those who disbelieve in battle array
04:19do not show them your backs
04:22And he that shows his back to them at such a time
04:25unless he is maneuvering in warfare
04:28or as a measure to rally to another company
04:31has truly incurred the displeasure of Allah
04:35and His refuge is Jehannah
04:37What an evil destined end it is
04:42Therefore in this war, O Muslims
04:44you killed them not
04:46As a matter of fact
04:48it was Allah who killed them
04:50And O Prophet
04:52it was not you who threw a handful of small stones
04:55when you did apparently throw them towards the enemy
04:58but it was Allah who threw
05:00that he might vanquish your enemies
05:02and that he might confer on the believers from himself
05:05a bounteous favor
05:08Verily Allah is all-hearing
05:10all-knowing
05:12That is what happened at the Battle of Badr
05:15and know for the future too
05:17that Allah will always go on thwarting the war strategies of the disbelievers
05:23If you, O disbelievers
05:25sought a decision
05:27then such a decision in the form of the results of the Battle of Badr
05:31has of course come to you
05:32and if you now desist from persecuting the believers
05:36it is better for you
05:38and if you return to hostilities
05:40we too will return to their help
05:43and your host
05:44though they may be numerous
05:45will be of no avail to you
05:48and know that Allah is with the believers
05:52O you who believe
05:54obey Allah and his messenger
05:56and do not turn away from him
05:58whilst you hear him speak
06:01and be not like those who say
06:03we listen
06:04while they do not listen
06:06and do not accept
06:08Surely the worst of animal
06:10that walk or crawl
06:12in the sight of Allah
06:13are those that are deaf and dumb
06:16and who are devoid of understanding
06:19Had Allah found any good in them
06:21he would have certainly made them listen to the Quran
06:24and if in the present situation
06:27he makes them listen
06:29they will turn away
06:30and they are averse
06:33O you who believe
06:35respond to Allah and the messenger
06:38when he calls you to that
06:39which will give you life
06:41and know that Allah intervenes
06:43between a person
06:44and the inclinations of his heart
06:46and that it is he to whom
06:48you shall all be gathered
06:49after having been raised to life
06:53and guard against an affliction
06:55which surely will not afflict
06:57only those of you in particular
06:58who have acted unjustly
07:01but it will involve others also
07:03who are inclined towards them
07:05and know that Allah is severe
07:08in requiting
07:10and recall the time
07:12when you were only a few
07:13and were looked upon
07:14as weak in the land
07:16you were afraid
07:17lest the people
07:18should take you by storm
07:20but he provided you refuge
07:22in Madinah
07:23and strengthened you
07:25with his help
07:25and provided you
07:27with good and pure things
07:28so that you might give thanks
07:31O you who believe
07:32do not be dishonest
07:34to Allah and his messenger
07:36nor betray your trust knowingly
07:40and bear in mind
07:41that your possessions
07:43and your children
07:44are but an ordeal
07:45and it is Allah alone
07:47with whom there is a mighty reward
07:50O you who believe
07:51if you take Allah as a shield
07:54he will grant you discrimination
07:56between right and wrong
07:58as is the battle of Madr
08:00and rid you all of your evil thoughts
08:03and deeds
08:03and will protect you
08:05against their adverse consequences
08:07for Allah is possessor
08:09of great bounties
08:11and O Prophet
08:12recall the time
08:14when those who disbelieve
08:16plotted evil against you
08:17and when so devised
08:19they might confine you
08:21or kill you
08:22or turn you out
08:23and even now
08:25they are devising
08:26means and methods
08:27to harm you
08:27and Allah also devised
08:30to counteract
08:31their evil designs
08:32and Allah is the best
08:34of divisors
08:36and when our verses
08:38are recited to them
08:39they say
08:39we have already
08:41heard them before
08:42if we so wish
08:44we could certainly
08:45compose the like of this
08:47these are nothing
08:48but fables
08:49of the former peoples
08:51and recall the time
08:53when they said
08:54O Allah
08:55if this faith of Islam
08:57indeed be the truth
08:58revealed by you
08:59then rain down upon us
09:01stones from heaven
09:02or bring down upon us
09:04some other grievous punishment
09:06Allah was not going
09:08to punish them
09:09so long as you
09:10O prophet
09:10were among them
09:11nor would he punish them
09:13while they were seeking
09:14his protection
09:16but what plea
09:17have they now
09:18that Allah
09:18should not punish them
09:20when they keep
09:21his worshippers
09:22back from the holy mosque
09:23at Mecca
09:24whilst they are not
09:26fit to be
09:27its true trustees
09:29its true trustees
09:30are only those
09:32who have become
09:33secure against evil
09:34but most of these
09:36disbelievers
09:36know not this fact
09:39how can they be
09:40the trustees
09:40of the holy mosque
09:42as their prayer
09:43at the house
09:44is nothing but
09:44sacrilegious activities
09:46like whistling
09:47and clapping of hands
09:50O disbelievers
09:51you asked for punishment
09:54therefore suffer the punishment
09:56on account of your disbelief
10:00those who disbelieve
10:01spend their possessions
10:03to hinder the people
10:04from the way of Allah
10:05they will surely continue
10:07to spend it thereafter
10:09then in the long run
10:11this expenditure
10:13will be to them
10:14a source of regret
10:15and after that
10:17they shall be overcome
10:18such of them
10:20who persist
10:21in disbelief
10:22shall be gathered
10:23into Jehannah
10:24so that Allah
10:25may distinguish
10:26and separate
10:27the impure
10:28from the pure
10:29and in doing so
10:31he will pile
10:32the impure
10:33one upon another
10:34then he will
10:35huddle them
10:36all together
10:37then he will
10:38consign them
10:39the huddled pile
10:40to Jehannah
10:41such in fact
10:43are the very losers
10:47say to these
10:48who disbelieve
10:49that if they desist
10:50now from persecuting
10:52the Muslims
10:52they will be protected
10:54against the past misdeeds
10:56but if they revert
10:57to their old ways
10:58of mischief
10:59then the example
11:00of their predecessors
11:01has already gone before
11:03and they shall meet
11:05the same doom
11:07and O Muslims
11:08fight them
11:09until there is
11:10no more persecution
11:11in the name of religion
11:12and adopting
11:13a certain religion
11:14is holy
11:15for the sake
11:16of Allah
11:16but if they desist
11:18then surely
11:20Allah is watchful
11:21of what they do
11:22and they will not
11:23be done injustice to
11:25but if they turn back
11:27and refuse
11:28all these terms
11:29and fight you
11:30then know that
11:31Allah is your
11:32protecting friend
11:33what an excellent
11:34protecting friend
11:36and what an
11:37excellent helper
11:40and know that
11:41whatever you acquire
11:42on winning a victory
11:43a fifth of it
11:44belongs to
11:45Allah
11:46to the messenger
11:47and to the kindred
11:48and the orphan
11:49and the needy
11:51and the wayfarer
11:52this you must observe
11:54if you believe
11:55in Allah
11:55and in what
11:56we sent down
11:57upon our servant
11:57on the day
11:58of discrimination
11:59between the truth
12:00and the falsehood
12:01the day the two armies
12:03encountered each other
12:04at the battle
12:04of Badr
12:05indeed
12:06Allah is possessor
12:08of power
12:09to do all
12:09he will
12:11when on that day
12:13you were on
12:14the nearer end
12:14and those were
12:16at its farther end
12:17and the caravan
12:19of the Quraysh
12:20from Syria
12:20was on a level
12:22lower than yours
12:22and had you made
12:24a mutual appointment
12:25beforehand
12:26you would have
12:27differed with regard
12:28to the place
12:29and time
12:30of the appointment
12:30that Allah
12:32brought about
12:33that which was
12:33already decreed
12:35by him
12:35so that he
12:36who had already
12:37spiritually perished
12:39on the altar
12:39of reason
12:40might perish
12:41physically also
12:43and he who has
12:44already spiritually
12:45come to life
12:46through a clear sign
12:47might live
12:48physically also
12:49most surely
12:51Allah is
12:52all hearing
12:53all knowing
12:55Prophet
12:56recall the time
12:58when Allah
12:58showed these
12:59disbelievers
13:00to you in your
13:01dream
13:01to be only a few
13:03and had he
13:04shown them to you
13:05as many
13:06old believers
13:06you would surely
13:08have been demoralized
13:09and would have
13:10disputed one
13:11with another
13:11about the matter
13:12of waging war
13:13but Allah
13:15saved you
13:16indeed he has
13:17the best knowledge
13:18of that which is
13:19in your hearts
13:21and when you
13:22encountered them
13:23he made them
13:25appear as a few
13:26in your eyes
13:27and he made you
13:28appear as a few
13:29in their eyes
13:30in order that
13:31Allah might bring
13:32about the thing
13:33that had already
13:34been decreed
13:35and to Allah
13:37all matters
13:38stand referred
13:39for decision
13:41O you who believe
13:42when you encounter
13:44a host
13:45remain steadfast
13:47and remember
13:48Allah much
13:49that you may triumph
13:51and obey
13:52Allah and his
13:53messenger
13:54and dispute
13:55not with one
13:56another
13:56or you will be
13:57demoralized
13:58and your strength
13:59will depart
13:59from you
14:00and do
14:01persevere
14:02for Allah
14:03is surely
14:04with the patiently
14:05persevering ones
14:07and be not
14:08like those
14:09who marched
14:10forth from
14:10their homes
14:11at the time
14:12of the battle
14:12of Badr
14:14boastfully
14:15and making
14:16an ostentatious
14:17display of
14:18themselves
14:18to the people
14:19and who
14:20hindered the people
14:21from following
14:22the path
14:22of Allah
14:23and Allah
14:24is the destroyer
14:25of whatever
14:26they do
14:27against Islam
14:29and recall
14:30the time
14:31when Satan
14:31made their deeds
14:32fair seeming
14:33to them
14:33and said
14:34today
14:35none among
14:36the people
14:37shall overpower
14:38you
14:38for surely
14:39I am your
14:40protecting helper
14:41but when the
14:43two hosts
14:44came face to face
14:45with each other
14:45he
14:46Satan
14:47retraced his steps
14:48and said
14:49surely I have
14:50nothing to do
14:51with you
14:52I see that
14:53which you do
14:54not see
14:55I am surely
14:56afraid of Allah
14:57for Allah
14:58is severe
14:59in requital
15:02this was the time
15:03when the hypocrites
15:04and those
15:05who carried
15:06in their hearts
15:06a disease
15:07were saying
15:07their religion
15:09has deluded
15:10these Muslims
15:10but the truth
15:12of the matter
15:12is that
15:13whoso puts
15:14his trust
15:15in Allah
15:15finds that
15:17surely Allah
15:18is almighty
15:19all wise
15:21could you
15:22but see
15:22the angels
15:23carrying away
15:24the souls
15:24of those
15:25who disbelieve
15:26smiting their
15:27faces
15:27and their backs
15:28saying
15:29suffer the
15:30punishment
15:30of burning
15:32this punishment
15:34is because
15:34of the deeds
15:35which your
15:36own hands
15:36have sent
15:37forward
15:37and know
15:39Allah
15:39is by no
15:40means unjust
15:41to his servants
15:43their ways
15:44are like the
15:44ways of the
15:45followers of
15:46Pharaoh
15:46and those
15:47before them
15:48they disbelieved
15:50in the messages
15:50of Allah
15:51so Allah
15:52sees them
15:53for their sins
15:53mighty is Allah
15:55and severe
15:56in punishing
15:57the evil
15:58done
15:59it happened
16:01thus
16:01because
16:01Allah
16:02is
16:02one
16:03who
16:03would
16:03never
16:04withdraw
16:04a favor
16:05which he
16:05has conferred
16:06on a people
16:07until they
16:08themselves
16:08change their
16:09own state
16:10of mind
16:10and that
16:11is because
16:12Allah
16:13is all
16:13the same
16:14all hearing
16:15all knowing
16:18just as it
16:19happened to
16:19the followers
16:20of Pharaoh
16:20and those
16:22before them
16:22so the
16:23same fate
16:24will meet
16:24them
16:25for they
16:25had cried
16:26lies to
16:27the commandments
16:27of their
16:28Lord
16:28so we
16:29destroyed
16:30them on
16:30account of
16:31their sins
16:31and we
16:32drowned
16:33the followers
16:33of Pharaoh
16:34because they
16:35were all
16:36wrongdoers
16:38surely the
16:39worst of
16:40beasts
16:40in the sight
16:41of Allah
16:42are those
16:43who denied
16:43to believe
16:44in the truth
16:45in the first
16:46instance
16:46so they
16:47would not
16:47believe
16:49particularly
16:50those with
16:52whom you
16:52entered into
16:53a pact
16:53but every
16:55time they
16:55break their
16:56pact
16:56and they
16:57do not
16:57guard
16:58against
16:58breach
16:59of trust
17:00therefore
17:01if you
17:02find these
17:02breakers of
17:03trust in
17:03battle array
17:04then by
17:05inflicting
17:06an exemplary
17:07punishment
17:07upon them
17:08disperse
17:09those behind
17:10them so that
17:11they may be
17:11admonished
17:13and if
17:14you fear
17:15and have
17:16reasons to
17:16fear treachery
17:17from a
17:17people
17:18then annul
17:19their pact
17:19on terms
17:20of equality
17:21indeed
17:22Allah loves
17:23not the
17:23treacherous
17:25and let
17:26not those
17:27who disbelieve
17:28think that
17:28they have
17:29outstripped
17:29us
17:30they shall
17:31not be
17:31able to
17:32frustrate
17:32our purpose
17:34believers
17:35it is your
17:36duty also
17:37that you
17:37keep prepared
17:38to meet
17:39them with
17:40whatever you
17:40can afford
17:41of armed
17:41force
17:42and of
17:43mounted
17:43pickets
17:44at the
17:45frontier
17:45to strike
17:47terror
17:47thereby
17:47into the
17:48hearts
17:48of the
17:49enemies
17:49of Allah
17:50and your
17:50enemies
17:51and such
17:51others
17:52besides
17:52them
17:53that you
17:53do not
17:54know
17:54but Allah
17:55knows them
17:56and whatever
17:57you spend
17:58in the cause
17:58of Allah
17:59shall be
18:00repaid to
18:00you in
18:01full
18:01and you
18:02will not
18:02be dealt
18:03with
18:03unjustly
18:05and if
18:06they incline
18:07towards peace
18:08you should
18:09also
18:10incline
18:10towards it
18:11and put
18:12your trust
18:12in Allah
18:13surely it
18:14is he
18:15who is
18:15all hearing
18:16all knowing
18:18but if
18:19they intend
18:20to desert
18:21you
18:21remember
18:22that Allah
18:23surely
18:23suffices
18:24you
18:24it is
18:26he who
18:26has
18:26strengthened
18:27you with
18:27his help
18:28and with
18:28the believers
18:30and he
18:30has united
18:31their hearts
18:32in mutual
18:32affection
18:33had you
18:34spent
18:35all that
18:35is in
18:36the earth
18:36you could
18:37not have
18:38united
18:38their hearts
18:39so
18:39but Allah
18:40united
18:41their hearts
18:41in mutual
18:42affection
18:42he is
18:44indeed
18:44almighty
18:45all wise
18:47O prophet
18:48Allah
18:49is sufficient
18:50for you
18:50and for
18:51the believers
18:52who follow
18:52you
18:55O prophet
18:56urge the
18:57believers
18:58frequently
18:58and strongly
18:59to defensive
19:00fighting
19:00if there
19:02be of you
19:03twenty
19:03steadfast
19:04they shall
19:05overcome
19:05two hundred
19:06and if
19:07there be
19:08a hundred
19:08of you
19:09they shall
19:10overcome
19:10a thousand
19:11of those
19:11who disbelieve
19:12because
19:13these are
19:14a people
19:14devoid
19:15of understanding
19:17for the
19:18present
19:19Allah
19:19has
19:20lightened
19:20your burden
19:21for he
19:22knows
19:22that there
19:23is yet
19:23some
19:24weakness
19:24in you
19:24thus
19:25if there
19:26be of
19:26you
19:27one hundred
19:27persevering
19:28and steadfast
19:29persons
19:29they shall
19:30still overcome
19:31at least
19:32two hundred
19:32and if
19:33there be
19:33a thousand
19:34of you
19:35they shall
19:35overcome
19:36two thousand
19:37by the
19:37leave of
19:38Allah
19:38and Allah
19:39is with
19:40the steadfast
19:42it does
19:43not
19:44behove a
19:45prophet
19:45to keep
19:46captives
19:46unless he
19:47has triumphed

19:49regular
19:49bloody
19:50fighting
19:50in the
19:51land
19:52if you
19:53take
19:53captives
19:54without
19:54warfare
19:54you desire
19:56the frail
19:56goods
19:57of this
19:57world
19:57while
19:58Allah
19:59desires
19:59for you
20:00the good
20:01of the
20:01hereafter
20:01and Allah
20:03is almighty
20:04all wise
20:06had there
20:07not been a
20:07prior decree
20:08of a war
20:09at Badr
20:09from Allah
20:11you would
20:11certainly
20:12have come
20:12to grief
20:13as a result
20:14of that
20:14which you
20:15were going
20:15to undertake
20:16by attacking
20:16the caravan
20:17of Quraysh
20:18from Syria
20:19so eat
20:20and spend
20:21of that
20:22which you
20:22have acquired
20:23after winning
20:24the war
20:24as is
20:25lawful
20:25good
20:26and pure
20:27and take
20:28Allah
20:28as a shield
20:29for Allah
20:30is great
20:31protector
20:31ever merciful
20:35prophet
20:35say to
20:37those captives
20:38of war
20:38who are
20:39in your
20:39custody
20:40if Allah
20:41finds any
20:42good in
20:43your heart
20:43he will
20:44give you
20:44even better
20:45than that
20:46which has
20:46been taken
20:46away from
20:47you as
20:47ransom
20:48and will
20:49protect you
20:49against your
20:50sins
20:51for Allah
20:52is great
20:52protector
20:53ever merciful
20:55but if they
20:56intend to
20:57play false
20:58with you
20:58remember that
21:00they were
21:00false to
21:01Allah before
21:02but he
21:03delivered them
21:03into your
21:04control
21:05and Allah
21:06is all
21:07knowing
21:07all wise
21:11surely
21:12those who
21:12have believed
21:13and have
21:14emigrated
21:15and strove
21:15hard with
21:16their possessions
21:17and their
21:17persons in
21:18the cause
21:18of Allah
21:19and who
21:20have given
21:21them refuge

21:25another

21:27responsible

21:39is binding
21:40upon you

21:41except

21:42a people
21:43between

21:45indeed
