00:02Isra, the night journey, with the name of Allah, the most gracious, the ever merciful.
00:11Glory be to him who carried his servant by night from the holy mosque at Mecca to the distant mosque
00:19at Jerusalem, the presence of which too we have blessed, that we might show him some of our signs.
00:26In fact, he alone is the all-hearing, the all-seeing.
00:33And similarly, we gave Moses the scripture, and we made it a guidance for the children of Israel, saying, Take
00:41no one as a disposer of affairs apart from Me.
00:45O you, the progeny of those whom we bore in the ark, with Noah, to protect them from the deluge.
00:53He was indeed a grateful servant of ours.
00:57And in the scripture we have conveyed to the children of Israel, with certainty, saying, Twice you shall create disorder
01:06in the land, and shall surely become exceedingly overbearing and arrogant.
01:13So when the first of the two warnings came, we roused against you.
01:18Some of our servants possessed of great valor and might in warfare, and they penetrated into the innermost recesses of
01:27your country and habitations.
01:29Indeed, it was a warning about the punishment of Allah bound to be carried out.
01:38Then we gave you back the power to prevail over these enemies of yours, and we helped you with various
01:46possessions and sons, and we increased your manpower militarily.
01:52We said, If you did good, you did it for your own selves, and if you did evil, it was
02:00only to the same end.
02:01So when the time for carrying out the latter warning came, we raised certain people against you to destroy your
02:10glory, so that they might do evil to you and your leading men, and invade and enter the mosque at
02:18Jerusalem in the same way as others of your enemies had invaded and entered it the first time,
02:26And so that they might destroy utterly all that they had conquered.
02:31Still, it is well nigh that your Lord will again have mercy on you, but if you return to mischief,
02:39we warn, we too will return to our punishment.
02:43We have made Jehenna a prison house for the ungrateful.
02:49This Qur'an assuredly guides to that which is most upright, and gives to the believers who do righteous deeds
02:58the glad tidings that there awaits them a great reward,
03:02and also warns that we have grievous punishment in store for those who do not believe in the hereafter.
03:11As it is many a time, a human being prays and calls for evil to himself, as he ought to
03:18pray and call for good.
03:20Human being is ever extremely hasty.
03:24And we have made the night and the day, such as they became two signs, in a way that we
03:31obliterated the sign of the night,
03:33and we displayed the sign of the day as sight, giving that you may seek the bounty of your Lord,
03:41and that you may learn from the alternation of night and day, the computation of years, and the science of
03:48all sorts of counting and measuring.
03:51We have clearly explained everything and all knowledge of faith in detail.
03:58And every human being, we have made his deeds cling to his neck on the day of resurrection,
04:04and we shall bring out for him a book recording all his deeds, which he will find wide open.
04:13It will be said to him,
04:15Read your book.
04:17Sufficient is your own conscience this day, as a reckoner against you.
04:23He who follows the right way, follows it to his own good,
04:27and he who goes astray, surely he goes astray to his own loss.
04:33And no soul that bears the burden shall bear the burden of another,
04:38and we never punish unless we have sent a messenger.
04:42And when we intend to destroy a township,
04:45we first address our command to its lawless people,
04:49who lead lazy lives.
04:51But they revolt therein, so that it stands condemned,
04:55and we destroy it with an utter destruction.
04:59In accordance with this rule of ours,
05:02we have destroyed many a generation after Noah.
05:06And your Lord suffices as one who is aware and beholder of the sins of his servants.
05:13For him who desires the present transitory life only,
05:17we shall hasten an immediate reward for him in this very life,
05:22giving what we will to whom we will.
05:25But we have prepared Jehenna for him.
05:28He shall enter it condemned and rejected.
05:35As for those who choose the hereafter and strive for it,
05:38the striving that is its due,
05:41and are believers,
05:43it is these whose striving shall find favor with their Lord.
05:47To all of them,
05:49these who hanker after this world,
05:51as well as those whose choice is the life to come,
05:54we render aid,
05:57and this is out of the bounty of your Lord.
06:00The bounty of your Lord is not confined
06:03to any one section of the people.
06:06Behold,
06:07how we have exalted some of them above others
06:10in the present life.
06:12Yet the hereafter holds out greater degrees of rank
06:16and confers greater merits and excellence.
06:21Do not set up another God with Allah,
06:24lest you remain debased and forsaken.
06:30Your Lord has enjoined you to worship none but him
06:33and to be good to parents.
06:36If either or both attain old age while living with you,
06:40never say to them,
06:44any word expressive of disgust or dislike,
06:48nor reproach them by your action.
06:52Rather address them with kind and respectful words always.
06:58And lower to them the wings of submissiveness,
07:02out of tenderness,
07:04treating them with humility and compassion,
07:07and say, praying for them,
07:09my Lord,
07:11have mercy upon them,
07:13just as they nourished and brought me up as a child.
07:18Your Lord knows very well what is in your minds.
07:22If he will find that you are righteous,
07:26surely he is a great protector of those who turn to him
07:29for forgiveness again and again.
07:42Certainly the squanderers are like Satan's,
07:46and Satan is always ungrateful to his Lord.
07:51If you have to turn away from them seeking the mercy from your Lord that you hope for,
07:57even then speak to them a kind word.
08:00And do not keep your hand shackled to your neck out of miserliness,
08:06nor stretch it out to an entire stretching extravagantly,
08:10lest you sit down reproached,
08:13incurring blame,
08:14and exhausted on becoming penniless.
08:18Surely your Lord multiplies his provisions and means of livelihood for such of his people as he will,
08:24and he measures it out justly,
08:27for he is well aware,
08:30and seeing the true needs of his people inside and out.
08:37And do not kill your children for fear of want.
08:41It is we who provide for them,
08:43as well as for you.
08:45Indeed, the killing of them is a great sin.
08:49And keep away from adultery and fornication.
08:53Surely it is an abominable act,
08:56and an extremely evil practice.
09:00And do not kill anyone.
09:02The sanctity of which Allah has upheld,
09:06and has forbidden you to slay,
09:08except for a just cause.
09:10And we have given, of course,
09:12to the heir of the person who is killed unjustly,
09:15the right to demand retribution or to forgive.
09:19But let him not exceed the prescribed limits in killing the murderer,
09:24because he is indeed helped and protected by law.
09:29And go not near to utilize the property of an orphan,
09:33except in the fairest manner and intention,
09:37in favor of the orphan,
09:39until he attains his age of full strength,
09:43when the property is to be returned to him.
09:46And fulfill your agreements,
09:48for every agreement is certainly questioned about
09:51and has to be accounted for.
09:54And give full measure when you measure out,
09:58and weigh with a right and even balance.
10:02That is best and most commendable in the long run.
10:07And do not follow and utter that of which you have no knowledge.
10:12Surely the ear and eye and the heart,
10:16all of these shall be called upon to account for it.
10:20And do not walk haughtily in the land,
10:24for you cannot thus rend the earth asunder,
10:27nor can you match the mountains in height.
10:31All these doings are such that the evil in them
10:34is simply hateful in the sight of your Lord.
10:38These teachings are a part of the wisdom
10:40which your Lord has revealed to you,
10:43and the basis of all these acts of righteousness
10:46is that you set up no other god beside Allah,
10:50lest you be cast into Jehenna,
10:53condemned, rejected.
11:10And certainly in this Quran,
11:13we have explained for the people
11:15the truth in a variety of forms
11:18that they may take heed and become great.
11:21But their condition is such
11:23that it increases them only in aversion.
11:27Say,
11:28had there been other gods,
11:31as they allege,
11:32beside him, the one god,
11:34in that case these polytheists
11:37would have certainly sought out by their help
11:39a way to the Lord of the mighty throne.
11:43Glory be to him,
11:45and far high indeed
11:47be he exalted above the things
11:50these polytheists say.
11:53The seven heavens,
11:55the earth,
11:56and all those inhabiting them
11:58extol his glory.
12:00In fact,
12:02there is not even a single thing
12:03but glorifies him
12:05with his true and perfect praise.
12:07But you do not understand
12:09their glorification.
12:11Verily,
12:12most forbearing is he,
12:14great protector.
12:16And when you recite the Quran,
12:19we place between you
12:21and those who do not believe
12:22in the hereafter
12:23an impregnable scream.
12:27And we cover their hearts with veils
12:29and plug their ears with something heavy,
12:33lest they should understand it.
12:35And when you mention
12:37the name of your Lord,
12:38who is the only one
12:40in the Quran,
12:41they turn their backs
12:43on it in aversion.
12:45We know very well
12:47the purpose of their listening
12:48when they listen to you,
12:50and the purpose
12:51with which they confer
12:52when they confer in private,
12:54and when the unjust say,
12:57you follow none
12:58but a man
12:59who is defrauded
13:00and deprived of reason.
13:03Behold,
13:04how they coin similitudes
13:06to depict you
13:07as a result of which
13:09they have gone astray.
13:12So they will not be able
13:14to find a way
13:15of their salvation.
13:18And they also say,
13:20what?
13:21When we are reduced
13:22to bones
13:23and that too
13:25broken particles of dust,
13:28shall we then be
13:29really raised again
13:31to a new life?
13:33Say,
13:34yes,
13:35even if you be reduced
13:37to stones or iron,
13:39or some other creation
13:41yet more hard
13:42that you can possibly
13:44conceive in your mind.
13:45Even then,
13:46you shall be raised
13:47to a new life.
13:50Thereupon,
13:51they will say,
13:52who will restore us
13:54to life?
13:54Say,
13:56the same who originated
13:57you the first time.
13:59At this,
14:00then,
14:01they will shake
14:02their heads at you,
14:03expressing wonder
14:04and disbelief
14:06in being raised,
14:07and will say,
14:08when will it come
14:09to pass?
14:11Say,
14:12maybe it is near.
14:15This promise
14:16will be fulfilled
14:17on the day
14:18when he will call you forth.
14:20Then you will respond
14:22to him,
14:22saying his praises,
14:24and you will think
14:25that you have tarried
14:26in the world
14:27only for a little while.
14:30And say to my servants
14:32that they should speak
14:33only what is gracious,
14:35for Satan is keen
14:36to provoke discord
14:38among them.
14:39Satan indeed
14:41is an enemy
14:42to the people,
14:43disuniting one another.
14:45Your Lord knows you best.
14:47He will have mercy on you
14:49if he will,
14:51or he will punish you
14:52if he will,
14:54and we have not sent you
14:55to be a disposer
14:56of their affairs,
14:58authorizing you
14:59to punish them
15:00or to reward them.
15:01And your Lord
15:03knows best
15:04those that are
15:05in the heavens
15:05and on the earth.
15:07And most surely
15:08we have exalted
15:10some of the prophets
15:10above others,
15:12and it is we
15:13who gave David
15:14the Zabor.
15:16Say,
15:18call upon those
15:19whom you assert
15:20to be gods
15:21apart from him,
15:22then you will realize
15:24they have no power
15:25to rid you
15:26of affliction
15:27nor to avert it
15:29or transfer it
15:30to others.
15:31Those whom they call upon
15:33apart from him,
15:34thinking them
15:35to be a means
15:36of gaining nearness
15:37to God,
15:37themselves seek nearness
15:40to their Lord
15:40and solicit his favor
15:42even those of them
15:44who are nearest to God
15:45are still competing
15:47to be closer to him
15:48and hope for his mercy
15:50and fear his punishment.
15:52As a matter of fact,
15:54the punishment
15:55of your Lord
15:56is a thing
15:57to beware of.
15:59And there is no township
16:01but we shall destroy it
16:02or we shall subject it
16:04to a severe chastisement
16:06before the day
16:07of resurrection.
16:08That is written down
16:10in the book.
16:12And nothing could prevent us
16:14from going
16:14or sending our signs
16:16though the former people
16:18cried lies to them.
16:20And we gave to Thamud
16:21the she-camel
16:23as an enlightenment
16:24and an eye-opener
16:25but they dealt
16:27with her unjustly.
16:29And we do not send
16:31our signs
16:32except to warn the people
16:34against the evil consequences
16:35of disbelief
16:37and transgression.
16:39And Prophet,
16:40recall the time
16:42when we said to you,
16:43Surely your Lord
16:45has encompassed
16:46all people
16:47for destruction
16:47and has power
16:49over them.
16:50Still they remained
16:51indifferent.
16:53We made the vision
16:54which we showed you
16:55being carried
16:56to Jerusalem
16:57from Mecca by night
16:58and also the tree
17:01disapproved of
17:02in the Quran
17:04a means of distinction
17:05between the good
17:06and the bad
17:07for the people.
17:09Despite the fact
17:10that we have been
17:11warning them
17:12by sending our signs
17:14this warning from us
17:16only leads them
17:17to unrestrained
17:18inordinacy.
17:21And recall the time
17:23when we said
17:23to the angels
17:24Submit to Adam.
17:27Then they all submitted.
17:29But Iblis
17:31who too was told
17:33to do the same
17:34did not.
17:35He said
17:36Shall I submit
17:38to one
17:38whom you have created
17:40out of clay?
17:42And he added
17:43What do you think?
17:45This is he
17:46whom you have
17:47honored
17:47and placed
17:48above me.
17:50If you grant
17:51me respite
17:52until the day
17:53of resurrection
17:54I will most
17:56certainly bring
17:56his progeny
17:57under my sway.
17:59Having overpowered
18:00them
18:01I shall destroy
18:02them for sure
18:03except a few.
18:06Begone!
18:07said he.
18:07As for those
18:09of them
18:09who follow you
18:10Jehenna
18:11is the recompense
18:12of you all
18:13an ample recompense.
18:17And beguile
18:18whomsoever
18:19of them
18:20you can
18:20with your speech
18:21and rally
18:22your horsemen
18:23against them
18:24and your footmen
18:25the fast riders
18:26and the slow walkers
18:28in disobedience
18:29with all your might
18:30and share
18:31with them
18:32their wealth
18:33and children
18:34and hold out
18:35promises to them
18:36what you like.
18:37Indeed
18:38Satan promises
18:39them nothing
18:40but mere fraud.
18:41As to my
18:43true servants
18:43you shall
18:45certainly
18:45have
18:46no authority
18:47over them
18:48and sufficient
18:49is your Lord
18:50as disposer
18:51of affairs.
18:53Your Lord
18:54is he
18:54who drives
18:55the ships
18:56on the sea
18:56for you
18:57that you
18:58may seek
18:58of his bounty.
18:59He is certainly
19:01ever merciful
19:02to you
19:02and when you
19:04encounter
19:04some distress
19:05on the sea
19:06at that time
19:07all those
19:08gods
19:09whom you
19:09call upon
19:10are lost
19:10to you
19:11but not he
19:12yet when he
19:14brings you
19:14safe to the land
19:15you turn away
19:17from him.
19:18Of course
19:19such a person
19:19is very ungrateful.
19:22Do you
19:23then feel
19:23secure
19:24that he
19:25will not
19:25humiliate you
19:26in the side
19:27of the land
19:28and make
19:29you sink
19:29in the earth
19:30on the side
19:31of the shore
19:31or send
19:33against you
19:33a violent
19:34squall
19:35of pebbles
19:35for if he
19:37does
19:37you shall
19:39find none
19:40responsible
19:40to protect
19:41and help
19:42you.
19:43Or do you
19:44feel secure
19:45and have
19:46made sure
19:46that he
19:47will not
19:48send you
19:48back in it
19:49a second
19:49time
19:50and then
19:51send against
19:51you a
19:52fierce storm
19:53blast
19:53and drown
19:54you because
19:55of your
19:55ingratitude
19:56for if
19:57he does
19:58you will
19:59find no
20:00helper in
20:00the matter
20:01for yourselves
20:01to protect
20:02you against
20:03us.
20:04And most
20:05surely we
20:06have made
20:06the children
20:07of Adam
20:08greatly
20:09honored
20:09and have
20:10carried them
20:11over land
20:11and sea
20:12and we
20:13have provided
20:14them with
20:15good and
20:15pure things
20:16and have
20:17distinctly
20:18exalted
20:18them far
20:19above most
20:20of our
20:20creation.
20:22Beware
20:23of the
20:23day
20:24when we
20:24shall
20:25call
20:25all
20:25people
20:26along
20:26with
20:26their
20:26leaders.
20:27Now
20:28whoever
20:28is
20:29given
20:29his
20:29book
20:30in
20:30his
20:31right
20:31hand
20:31such
20:32will
20:33read
20:33their
20:33book
20:33eagerly
20:34and
