01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble

05:00Pay attention, my people, to my instruction.
05:04Listen to the words I speak.
05:07I will sing a song that imparts wisdom.
05:10I will make insightful observations about the past.
05:14What we have heard and learned, that which our ancestors have told us, we will not hide from their descendants.
05:23We will tell the next generation about the Lord's praiseworthy acts, about his strength, and the amazing things he has
05:30done.
05:32He has established a rule in Jacob.
05:34He has set up a law in Israel.
05:37He commanded our ancestors to make his deeds known to their descendants, so that the next generation, children yet to
05:46be born, might know about them.
05:49They will grow up and tell their descendants about them.
05:54Then they will place their confidence in God.
05:57They will not forget the works of God, and they will obey his commands.
06:03Then they will not be like their ancestors, who were a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that was not
06:10committed and faithful to God.
06:14The Ephraimites were armed with bows, but they retreated in a day of battle.
06:19They did not keep their covenant with God.
06:22They refused to obey his law.
06:25They forgot about what he had done, the amazing things he had shown them.
06:31He did amazing things in the sight of their ancestors, in the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.
06:39He divided the sea and led them across it.
06:42He made the waters stand in a heap.
06:45He led them with a cloud by day and with the light of a fire all night long.
06:51He broke open rocks in the wilderness and gave them enough water to fill the depths of the sea.
06:58He caused streams to flow from the rock and made the waters flow like rivers.
07:05Yet they continued to sin against him and rebelled against the Most High in the desert.
07:13They willfully challenged God by asking for food to satisfy their appetite.
07:19They insulted, saying,
07:21Is God really able to give us food in the wilderness?
07:27Yes, he struck a rock, and water flowed out, streams gushed forth.
07:32But can he also give us food?
07:35Will he provide meat for his people?
07:39When the Lord heard this, he was furious.
07:42A fire broke out against Jacob, and his anger flared against Israel,
07:47because they did not have faith in God, and did not trust his ability to deliver them.
07:53He gave a command to the clouds above and opened the doors in the sky.
07:58He rained down manna for them to eat.
08:00He gave them the grain of heaven.
08:03Man ate the food of the mighty ones.
08:06He sent them more than enough to eat.
08:10He brought the east wind through the sky,
08:12and by his strength led forth the south wind.
08:15He rained down meat on them like dust,
08:19birds as numerous as the sand on all the seashores.
08:23He caused them to fall right in the middle of their camp,
08:27all around their homes.
08:30They ate until they were beyond full.
08:32He gave them what they desired.
08:35They were not yet filled up,
08:37their food still in their mouths,
08:39when the anger of God flared up against them.
08:42He killed some of the strongest of them.
08:45He brought the young men of Israel to their knees.
08:50Despite all this, they continued to sin,
08:52and did not trust him to do amazing things.
08:56So he caused them to die unsatisfied,
08:59and filled with terror.
09:02When he struck them down, they sought his favor.
09:05They turned back and longed for God.
09:08They remembered that God was their protector,
09:11and that God Most High was their deliverer.
09:15But they deceived him with their words,
09:17and lied to him.
09:19They were not really committed to him,
09:22and they were unfaithful to his covenant.
09:26Yet he is compassionate.
09:28He forgives sin and does not destroy.
09:31He often holds back his anger,
09:34and does not stir up his fury.
09:37He remembered that they were made of flesh,
09:39and were like a wind that blows past,
09:41and does not return.
09:44How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness,
09:47and insulted him in the wastelands.
09:51They again challenged God,
09:53and defended the Holy One of Israel.
09:56They did not remember what he had done,
09:58how he had delivered them from the enemy,
10:01when he performed his awesome deeds in Egypt,
10:04and his acts of judgment in the region of Zoan.
10:08He turned their rivers into blood,
10:10and they could not drink from their streams.
10:13He sent swarms of biting insects against them,
10:17as well as frogs that overran their land.
10:21He gave their crops to the grasshopper,
10:24the fruit of their labour to the locust.
10:27He destroyed their vines with hail,
10:30and their sycamore fig trees with driving rain.
10:34He ran down hail upon their cattle,
10:37and hurled lightning bolts down on their livestock.
10:42His raging anger lashed out against them.
10:46He sent fury, rage, and trouble,
10:48as messengers who bring disaster.
10:51He sent his anger in full force.
10:54He did not spare them from death.
10:57He handed their lives over to destruction.
11:00He struck down all the firstborn in Egypt,
11:04the firstfruits of their reproductive power,
11:07in the tents of Ham.
11:09And yet he brought out his people like sheep.
11:13He led them through the wilderness like a flock.
11:16He guided them safely along,
11:18and they were not afraid.
11:20But the sea covered their enemies.
11:23He brought them to the border of his holy land,
11:26to the mightiest land which his right hand acquired.
11:31He drove the nations out from before them.
11:34He assigned them their tribal allotments,
11:37and allowed the tribes of Israel to settle down.
11:40Yet they challenged and defied God Most High,
11:44and did not obey his commands.
11:48They were unfaithful and acted as treacherously as their ancestors.
11:53They were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow.
11:57They made him angry with their pagan shrines,
12:01and made him jealous with their idols.
12:05God heard and was angry.
12:07He completely rejected Israel.
12:09He abandoned the sanctuary at Shiloh,
12:13the tent where he lived amongst men.
12:16He allowed the symbol of his strong presence to be captured.
12:20He gave the symbol of his splendor into the hand of the enemy.
12:25He delivered his people over to the sword,
12:28and was angry with his chosen nation.
12:32Fire consumed their young men,
12:34and their virgins remained unmarried.
12:37Their priests fell by the sword,
12:40but their widows did not weep.
12:43But then the Lord awoke from his sleep.
12:46He was like a warrior in a drunken rage.
12:49He drove his enemies back.
12:51He made them a permanent target for insults.
12:55He rejected the tent of Joseph.
12:57He did not choose the tribe of Ephraim.
13:00He chose the tribe of Judah and Mount Zion,
13:03which he loves.
13:05He made his sanctuary as enduring as the heavens above,
13:09as secure as the earth,
13:11which he established permanently.
13:14He chose David his servant,
13:17and took him from the sheepfolds.
13:19He took him away from following the mother sheep,
13:22and made him the shepherd of Jacob his people,
13:25and of Israel his chosen nation.
13:29David cared for them with pure motives.
13:32He led them with skill.
13:35Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
13:37and to the Holy Spirit,
13:39as it was in the beginning,
13:41is now, and ever shall be,
13:43world without end.
13:46Amen.
13:52The prophet Jeremiah chapter 21.
13:56The Lord spoke to Jeremiah,
13:58when King Zedekiah sent to him,
14:00Pasha son of Machajah,
14:03and the priest Zephaniah son of Masahah.
14:07Zedekiah sent them to Jeremiah to ask,
14:11Please ask the Lord to come and help us,
14:13because King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon is attacking.
14:17Perhaps the Lord will perform a miracle,
14:19as in times past,
14:21and make him stop attacking us,
14:24and leave.
14:26Jeremiah answered,
14:27Tell Zedekiah that the Lord,
14:30the God of Israel, says,
14:32The forces at your disposal
14:34are now outside the walls,
14:36fighting against King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon,
14:39and the Babylonians who have you under siege.
14:44I will gather those forces back inside the city.
14:48In anger,
14:50in fury,
14:50and in wrath,
14:51I myself will fight against you,
14:53with my mighty power and great strength.
14:56I will kill every living thing in Jerusalem,
15:00people and animals alike.
15:02They will die from terrible diseases.
15:05Then I,
15:06the Lord,
15:07promise that I will hand over King Zedekiah of Judah,
15:10his officials,
15:11and any of the people who survived the war,
15:14starvation,
15:15and disease.
15:16I will hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon,
15:20and to their enemies who want to kill them.
15:23He will slaughter them with the sword.
15:25He will not show them any mercy,
15:28compassion,
15:28or pity.
15:31But tell the people of Jerusalem that the Lord says,
15:34I will give you a choice between two courses of action.
15:38One will result in life,
15:39and the other will result in death.
15:44Those who stay in the city will die in battle,
15:46or of starvation,
15:48or disease.
15:50Those who leave the city and surrender to the Babylonians,
15:53who are besieging it,
15:55will live.
15:56They will escape with their lives.
15:58For I,
15:59the Lord,
16:00say that I am determined not to deliver this city,
16:03but to bring disaster on it.
16:05It will be handed over to the King of Babylon,
16:08and he will destroy it with fire.
16:13The Lord God told me to say to the royal court of Judah,
16:17listen to what the Lord says,
16:19O royal family descended from David.
16:22The Lord says,
16:24see to it that people each day are judged fairly.
16:27Deliver those who have been robbed from those who oppress them.
16:31Otherwise my wrath will blaze out against you.
16:35It will burn like a fire that can never be put out,
16:38because of the evil that you have done.
16:42Listen,
16:43you who sit enthroned above the valley of the rocky plateau.
16:47I am opposed to you,
16:49says the Lord.
16:50You boast.
16:51No one can swoop down on us.
16:54No one can penetrate into our places of refuge.
16:58But I will punish you as your deeds deserve,
17:01says the Lord.
17:02I will set your palace on fire.
17:06It will burn up everything a reddit.
17:10This is the word of the Lord.
17:13Thanks be to God.
17:26Mary said,
17:28My soul exalts the Lord,
17:31and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
17:36because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
17:41For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
17:46because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
17:50and holy is his name.
17:52From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
17:59He has demonstrated power with his arm.
18:02He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
18:08He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
18:11and has lifted up those of lowly position.

18:18and has sent the rich away empty.
18:21He has helped his servant Israel,
18:24remembering his mercy,

18:52The Gospel according to Saint Matthew,
18:55chapter 24.
18:58But straight away,
19:00after the trouble of those days,
19:02the sun will be made dark,
19:04and the moon will not give her light,
19:06and the stars will come down from the heaven,
19:08and the powers of heaven will be moved.
19:12Then the sign of the Son of Man will be seen in the heaven.
19:17Then all the nations of the earth will have sorrow.
19:20They will see the Son of Man
19:22coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
19:27He will send out his angels with a great sound of a horn,
19:30and they will get his saints together from the four winds,
19:33from one end of heaven to the other.
19:38Take an example from the fig tree.
19:42When her branch has become soft and puts out its leaves,
19:45you can be certain that the summer is near.
19:49Even so, when you see all these things,
19:51you may be certain that he is near,
19:54even at the door.
19:56Truly, I say to you,
19:57this generation will not come to an end
19:59until these things are complete.
20:02Heaven and earth will come to an end,
20:04but my words will not come to an end.
20:07But of that day and hour no one has knowledge,
20:10not even the angels in heaven,
20:13nor the Son, but the Father only.
20:17As were the days of Noah,
20:19so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
20:22Because, as in those days
20:23before the overflowing of the waters,
20:25they were feasting and taking wives
20:27and getting married,
20:28until the day when Noah went into the ark.
20:31They had no care until the waters came
20:34and took them all away.
20:36So will be the coming of the Son of Man.
20:39Then two men will be in the field,
20:41and one is taken and one let go.
20:44Two women will be crushing grain,
20:46one taken, one let go.
20:48Be watching,
20:50for you have no knowledge
20:51on what day your Lord will come.
20:53But be certain of this,
20:55that if the master of the house
20:57had knowledge of the time
20:58when the thief was coming,
20:59he would have been watching
21:01and would not have let his house
21:02be broken into.
21:06Be ready then,
21:07for at a time
21:08for which you have no thought,
21:10the Son of Man will come.
21:14Who is the true and wise servant
21:16whom his Lord has put over those in his house
21:19to give them their food
21:21at the right time?
21:22A blessing on that servant
21:24who will be doing so
21:26when his Lord comes.
21:28Truly, I say to you,
21:29he will put him over all that he has.
21:32But if that evil servant says in his heart,
21:36My Lord is a long time in coming,
21:38and is cruel to the other servants,
21:41taking his pleasure with those
21:43who are overcome with wine,
21:45the Lord of that servant
21:46will come in a day
21:47when he is not looking for him,
21:50and in an hour of which
21:51he has no knowledge,
21:53and will have him cut in two,
21:56and who will give him a part
21:58in the fate of the false ones.
22:03And there will be weeping
22:04and cries of sorrow.
22:08This is the word of the Lord.
22:11Thanks be to God.
22:24Now according to your word,
22:26Sovereign Lord,
22:27permit your servant to depart in peace.
22:31For my eyes have seen your salvation
