00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 78
05:00Pay attention, my people, to my instruction.
05:04Listen to the words I speak.
05:07I will sing a song that imparts wisdom.
05:10I will make insightful observations about the past.
05:14What we have heard and learned, that which our ancestors have told us, we will not hide from their descendants.
05:23We will tell the next generation about the Lord's praiseworthy acts, about his strength, and the amazing things he has
05:30done.
05:32He has established a rule in Jacob.
05:34He has set up a law in Israel.
05:38He commanded our ancestors to make his deeds known to their descendants, so that the next generation, children yet to
05:46be born, might know about them.
05:49They will grow up, and tell their descendants about them.
05:54Then they will place their confidence in God.
05:57They will not forget the works of God, and they will obey his commands.
06:03Then they will not be like their ancestors, who were a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that was not
06:10committed and faithful to God.
06:14The Ephraimites were armed with bows, but they retreated in a day of battle.
06:19They did not keep their covenant with God.
06:22They refused to obey his law.
06:25They forgot about what he had done, the amazing things he had shown them.
06:31He did amazing things in the sight of their ancestors, in the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.
06:39He divided the sea and led them across it.
06:42He made the waters stand in a heap.
06:45He led them with a cloud by day and with the light of a fire all night long.
06:50He broke open rocks in the wilderness and gave them enough water to fill the depths of the sea.
06:58He caused streams to flow from the rock and made the waters flow like rivers.
07:05Yet they continued to sin against him and rebelled against the Most High in the desert.
07:13They willfully challenged God by asking for food to satisfy their appetite.
07:18They insulted, saying,
07:21Is God really able to give us food in the wilderness?
07:26Yes, he struck a rock and water flowed out, streams gushed forth.
07:32But can he also give us food?
07:35Will he provide meat for his people?
07:39When the Lord heard this, he was furious.
07:42A fire broke out against Jacob, and his anger flared against Israel, because they did not have faith in God,
07:49and did not trust his ability to deliver them.
07:53He gave a command to the clouds above and opened the doors in the sky.
07:58He rained down manna for them to eat.
08:00He gave them the grain of heaven.
08:03Man ate the food of the mighty ones.
08:06He sent them more than enough to eat.
08:10He brought the east wind through the sky, and by his strength led forth the south wind.
08:16He rained down meat on them like dust, birds as numerous as the sand on all the seashores.
08:23He caused them to fall right in the middle of their camp, all around their homes.
08:29They ate until they were beyond full.
08:32He gave them what they desired.
08:35They were not yet filled up, their food still in their mouths when the anger of God flared up against
08:42them.
08:42He killed some of the strongest of them.
08:45He brought the young men of Israel to their knees.
08:50Despite all this, they continued to sin, and did not trust him to do amazing things.
08:56So he caused them to die unsatisfied and filled with terror.
09:02When he struck them down, they sought his favor.
09:05They turned back and longed for God.
09:08They remembered that God was their protector, and that God Most High was their deliverer.
09:15But they deceived him with their words, and lied to him.
09:19They were not really committed to him, and they were unfaithful to his covenant.
09:26Yet he is compassionate.
09:28He forgives sin and does not destroy.
09:31He often holds back his anger and does not stir up his fury.
09:37He remembered that they were made of flesh, and were like a wind that blows past and does not return.
09:44How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and insulted him in the wastelands.
09:51They again challenged God and offended the Holy One of Israel.
09:56They did not remember what he had done, how he had delivered them from the enemy,
10:01when he performed his awesome deeds in Egypt, and his acts of judgment in the region of Zoan.
10:08He turned their rivers into blood, and they could not drink from their streams.
10:12He sent swarms of biting insects against them, as well as frogs that overran their land.
10:21He gave their crops to the grasshopper, the fruit of their labour to the locust.
10:27He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore fig trees with driving rain.
10:34He ran down hail upon their cattle, and hurled lightning bolts down on their livestock.
10:42His raging anger lashed out against them.
10:45He sent fury, rage, and trouble as messengers who bring disaster.
10:51He sent his anger in full force.
10:54He did not spare them from death.
10:56He handed their lives over to destruction.
11:00He struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, the firstfruits of their reproductive power in the tents of Ham.
11:09And yet, he brought out his people like sheep.
11:12He led them through the wilderness like a flock.
11:16He guided them safely along, and they were not afraid.
11:19But the sea covered their enemies.
11:23He brought them to the border of his holy land, to the mightiest land which his right hand acquired.
11:31He drove the nations out from before them.
11:34He assigned them their tribal allotments, and allowed the tribes of Israel to settle down.
11:40Yet, they challenged and defied God Most High, and did not obey his commands.
11:48They were unfaithful, and acted as treacherously as their ancestors.
11:53They were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow.
11:57They made him angry with their pagan shrines, and made him jealous with their idols.
12:05God heard and was angry.
12:07He completely rejected Israel.
12:09He abandoned the sanctuary at Shiloh, the tent where he lived amongst men.
12:16He allowed the symbol of his strong presence to be captured.
12:20He gave the symbol of his splendor into the hand of the enemy.
12:25He delivered his people over to the sword, and was angry with his chosen nation.
12:32Fire consumed their young men, and their virgins remained unmarried.
12:37Their priests fell by the sword, but their widows did not weep.
12:43But then the Lord awoke from his sleep.
12:46He was like a warrior in a drunken rage.
12:49He drove his enemies back.
12:51He made them a permanent target for insults.
12:55He rejected the tent of Joseph.
12:57He did not choose the tribe of Ephraim.
13:00He chose the tribe of Judah, and Mount Zion, which he loves.
13:05He made his sanctuary as enduring as the heavens above, as secure as the earth, which he established permanently.
13:14He chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds.
13:19He took him away from following the mother sheep, and made him the shepherd of Jacob his people,
13:25and of Israel his chosen nation.
13:29David cared for them with pure motives.
13:32He led them with skill.
13:35Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
13:39as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
13:45Amen.
13:52The Book of Job, Chapter 42
13:56Then Job answered the Lord,
13:58I know that you can do all things.
14:01No purpose of yours can be thwarted.
14:05You asked,
14:06Who is this who darkens counsel without knowledge?
14:09But I have declared without understanding things too wonderful for me to know.
14:15You said,
14:16Pay attention that I will speak.
14:18I will question you, and you will answer me.
14:22I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
14:25but now my eye has seen you.
14:28Therefore I despise myself, and I repent in dust and ashes.
14:36After the Lord had spoken these things to Job,
14:38he said to Eliphaz the Temanite,
14:40My anger is stirred up against you and your two friends,
14:44because you have not spoken about me what is right,
14:47as my servant Job has.
14:51So now take seven bowls and seven rams,
14:54and go to my servant Job,
14:56and offer a burnt offering for yourselves.
14:59My servant Job will intercede for you,
15:02and I will respect him,
15:04so that I do not deal with you according to your folly,
15:09because you have not spoken about me what is right,
15:12as my servant Job has.
15:15And so they went,
15:17Eliphaz the Temanite,
15:19Bildad the Shuhite,
15:21and Zophar the Nemethite,
15:24just as the Lord had told them,
15:27so the Lord had respect for Job.
15:31The Lord restored what Job had lost
15:33after he prayed for his friends,
15:35and the Lord doubled all that had belonged to him.
15:39And so they came to him,
15:41all his brothers and sisters,
15:43and all who had known him before,
15:44and they dined with him in his house.
15:48They comforted and consoled him
15:50for all the trouble the Lord had brought on him,
15:53and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.
15:59The Lord blessed the second part of Job's life even more than the first.
16:04He had 14,000 sheep,
16:066,000 camels,
16:071,000 yoke of oxen,
16:09and 1,000 female donkeys.
16:13He also had seven more sons
16:15and three more daughters.
16:18The first daughter he named Jemima,
16:21the second Kezia,
16:23and the third Keren Hapuk.
16:26Nowhere in all the land
16:27could women be found
16:28who were as beautiful
16:29as Job's daughters.
16:32And their father granted them
16:34an inheritance
16:35alongside their brothers.
16:40After this,
16:41Job lived a further 140 years.
16:45He saw his children
16:47and their children
16:48to the fourth generation.
16:51And so Job died
16:53old
16:53and full of days.
16:56This is the word of the Lord.
16:59Thanks be to God.
17:13Mary said
17:14My soul exalts the Lord
17:17and my spirit
17:18has begun to rejoice
17:19in God my Saviour
17:21because he has looked
17:23upon the humble state
17:24of his servant.
17:27For from now on
17:29all generations
17:29will call me blessed
17:31because he who is mighty
17:33has done great things for me
17:35and holy is his name.
17:38From generation to generation
17:40he is merciful
17:42to those who fear him.
17:44He has demonstrated power
17:46with his arm.
17:48He has scattered those
17:49whose pride wells up
17:51from the sheer arrogance
17:52of their hearts.
17:54He has brought down
17:55the mighty from their thrones
17:57and has lifted up
17:58those of lowly position.
18:01He has filled the hungry
18:02with good things
18:03and has sent the rich
18:05away empty.
18:07He has helped
18:08his servant Israel
18:09remembering his mercy
18:11as he promised
18:13to our ancestors,
18:14to Abraham
18:16and to his descendants
18:18for ever.
18:20Glory be to the Father
18:21and to the Son
18:22and to the Holy Spirit
18:24as it was in the beginning
18:26is now
18:27and ever shall be
18:29world without end.
18:31Amen.
18:38The Gospel according
18:40to Saint Matthew
18:41chapter 7
18:44Ask and it will be given to you
18:46Seek and you will find
18:48Knock and the door
18:50will be opened for you
18:53For everyone who asks
18:54receives
18:55and the one who seeks
18:57finds
18:57and to the one who knocks
18:59the door will be opened
19:02Is there anyone among you
19:04who
19:04if his son asks for bread
19:06will give him a stone
19:09or if he asks for a fish
19:11will give him a snake
19:14If you then
19:15although you are evil
19:16know how to give good gifts
19:18to your children
19:20how much more will your Father
19:21in heaven give good gifts
19:23to those who ask him
19:26In everything
19:27treat others
19:28as you would want them
19:29to treat you
19:30for this fulfills the law
19:32and the prophets
19:35Enter through the narrow gate
19:36because the gate is wide
19:38and the way is spacious
19:40that leads to destruction
19:42There are many who enter through it
19:45but the gate is narrow
19:46and the way is difficult
19:47that leads to life
19:48and there are few who find it
19:52Watch out for false prophets
19:55who come to you
19:56in sheep's clothing
19:57but inwardly
19:58are voracious wolves
20:00You will recognize them
20:02by their fruit
20:04Grapes are not gathered
20:05from thorns
20:06or figs from thistles
20:08are they?
20:09In the same way
20:11every good tree
20:12bears good fruit
20:13but the bad tree
20:15bears bad fruit
20:17A good tree
20:18is not able
20:19to bear bad fruit
20:20nor a bad tree
20:21to bear good fruit
20:24Every tree
20:25that does not bear good fruit
20:26is cut down
20:27and thrown
20:28into the fire
20:30So then
20:31you will recognize them
20:32by their fruit
20:35Not everyone
20:36who says to me
20:36Lord, Lord
20:37will enter
20:39into the kingdom of heaven
20:41Only the one
20:42who does the will
20:43of my Father in heaven
20:45On that day
20:46many will say to me
20:48Lord, Lord
20:49didn't we prophesy
20:50in your name
20:51and in your name
20:52cast out demons
20:53performing many
20:55powerful deeds
20:57Then I will declare
20:59to them
20:59I never knew you
21:01Go away from me
21:03you lawbreakers
21:06Everyone who hears
21:08these words of mine
21:09and does them
21:10is like a wise man
21:11who built his house
21:12on rock
21:14The rain fell
21:15the flood came
21:16and the winds
21:17beat against that house
21:18but it did not collapse
21:20because it had been
21:21founded on rock
21:24Everyone who hears
21:25these words of mine
21:26and does not do them
21:27is like a foolish man
21:29who built his house
21:30on sand
21:32The rain fell
21:33the flood came
21:35and the winds
21:36beat against that house
21:37and it collapsed
21:38It was utterly destroyed
21:44When Jesus finished
21:45saying these things
21:46the crowds were amazed
21:47by his teaching
21:48because he taught them
21:49like one who had authority
21:51not like their experts
21:54in the law
21:56This is the word of the Lord
21:58Thanks be to God
22:09Now according to your word
22:12Sovereign Lord
22:12Permit your servant
22:14to depart in peace
22:16For my eyes
22:17have seen your salvation
22:19that you have prepared
22:21in the presence
22:22of all peoples
22:23A light for revelation
22:26to the Gentiles
22:27and for glory
22:28to your people Israel
22:32Glory be to the Father
22:34and to the Son
22:35and to the Holy Spirit
22:36as it was in the beginning
22:38is now and ever shall be
22:40world without end
22:42Amen
22:47I believe in God
22:49the Father Almighty
22:50Maker of heaven and earth
22:53and in Jesus Christ
22:54his only Son
22:55our Lord
22:57who was conceived
22:58by the Holy Spirit
23:00born of the Virgin Mary
23:02suffered
23:03unto Pontius Pilate
23:05was crucified
23:06dead
23:07and buried
23:08he descended
23:10into hell
23:10on the third day
23:12he rose again
23:13from the dead
23:14he ascended
23:16into heaven
23:17and is sitting
23:18at the right hand
23:19of God
23:19the Father Almighty
23:22from there
23:23he shall come
23:23to judge
23:24the living
23:24and the dead
23:26I believe
23:27in the Holy Spirit
23:28the Holy Catholic Church
23:30the communion
23:31of saints
23:32the forgiveness
23:33of sins
23:34the resurrection
23:35of the body
23:37and the life everlasting
23:39Amen
23:45The Lord be with you
23:47and with your spirit
23:52Let us pray
23:55Lord have mercy
23:57upon us
23:59Christ
23:59have mercy

24:36from evil
