00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name.
03:14Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace,
03:24that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ our
03:32Lord.
03:33Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
04:10Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
04:39as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
04:43world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 6
04:59O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger.
05:04Do not discipline me in your raging fury.
05:08Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am frail.
05:11Heal me, Lord, for my bones are shaking.
05:16I am absolutely terrified.
05:18And you, Lord, how long will this continue?
05:23Relent, O Lord, rescue me, deliver me, because of your faithfulness.
05:28For no one remembers you in the realm of death.
05:31In shale, who gives you thanks?
06:02I am exhausted as I groan.
06:03God has accepted my prayer.
06:06They will be humiliated and absolutely terrified.
06:11All my enemies will turn back and be suddenly humiliated.
06:17Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
06:21as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
06:25world without end.
06:26Amen.
06:32Psalm 7
06:34O Lord, my God, in you I have taken shelter.
06:39Deliver me from all who chase me.
06:42Rescue me.
06:44Otherwise, they will rip me to shreds like a lion.
06:47They will tear me to bits, and no one will be able to rescue me.
06:52O Lord, my God, if I have done what they say,
06:55or I am guilty of unjust actions,
06:58or have wronged my ally or helped his lawless enemy,
07:02may an enemy relentlessly chase me and catch me.
07:07May he trample me to death and leave me lying dishonoured in the dust.
07:13Stand up angrily, Lord.
07:16Rise up with raging fury against my enemies.
07:21Wake up for my sake and execute the judgment you have decreed for them.
07:28The countries are assembled all around you.
07:31Take once more your rightful place over them.
07:37The Lord judges the nations.
07:40Vindicate me, Lord, because I am innocent,
07:43because I am blameless, O exalted one.
07:47May the evil deeds of the wicked come to an end,
07:51but make the innocent secure, O righteous God,
07:55you who examine inner thoughts and motives.
08:00The exalted God is my shield,
08:02the one who delivers the morally upright.
08:06God is a just judge.
08:08He is angry throughout the day.
08:12If a person does not repent,
08:14God will wield his sword.
08:17He has prepared to shoot his bow.
08:20He has prepared deadly weapons to use against him.
08:24He gets ready to shoot flaming arrows.
08:28See the one who is pregnant with wickedness,
08:31who conceives destructive plans and gives birth to harmful lies.
08:36He digs a pit and then falls into the hole he has made.
08:39He has become the victim of his own destructive plans and the violence he intended for others falls on his
08:50own head.
08:52I will thank the Lord for his justice.
08:55I will sing praises to the Lord Most High.
08:59Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
09:03as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
09:08world without end.
09:10Amen.
09:12Psalm 8
09:14O Lord, our Lord, how magnificent is your reputation throughout the earth.
09:21You reveal your majesty in the heavens above.
09:25From the mouths of children and nursing babies you have ordained praise on account of your adversaries,
09:32so that you might put an end to the vindictive enemy.
09:38When I look up at the heavens which your fingers made and see the moon and the stars which you
09:43set in place,
09:45of what importance is the human race that you should notice them?
09:50Of what importance is mankind that you should pay attention to them?
09:55You made them a little less than the heavenly beings.
09:58You crowned mankind with honour and majesty.
10:03You appoint them to rule over your creation.
10:06You have placed everything under their authority,
10:09including all the sheep and cattle,
10:12as well as the wild animals, the birds in the sky,
10:15the fish in the sea, and everything that moves through the currents of the sea.
10:20O Lord, our Lord,
10:22how magnificent is your reputation throughout the earth.
10:27Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
10:31as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
10:36world without end.
10:38Amen.
10:45The book of Proverbs, chapter 28.
10:51The wicked person flees when there is no one pursuing,
10:55but the righteous person is as confident as a lion.
11:01When a country is rebellious, it has many princes,
11:04but by someone who is discerning and knowledgeable,
11:08order is maintained.
11:11A poor person who oppresses the weak
11:13is like a driving rain without food.
11:18Those who forsake the law praise the wicked,
11:21but those who keep the law contend with them.
11:26Evil people do not understand justice,
11:28but those who seek the Lord understand it all.
11:34A poor person who walks in his integrity
11:36is better than one who is perverse in his ways,
11:40even though he is rich.
11:44The one who keeps the law is a discerning child,
11:48but a companion of gluttons brings shame to his parents.
11:53The one who increases his wealth by increasing interest,
11:58gathers it for someone who is gracious to the needy.
12:04The one who turns away his ear from hearing the law,
12:07even his prayer is an abomination.
12:12The one who leads the upright astray in an evil way,
12:16will himself fall into his own pit,
12:19but the blameless will inherit that which is good.
12:24A rich person is wise in his own eyes,
12:28but a discerning poor person can evaluate him properly.
12:34When the righteous rejoice, great is the glory,
12:37but when the wicked rise to power, people are sought out.
12:42The one who covers his transgressions will not prosper,
12:46but whoever confesses them and forsakes them will find mercy.
12:52Blessed is the one who is always cautious,
12:55but whoever hardens his heart will fall into evil.
13:01Like a roaring lion or a roving bear,
13:05so is a wicked ruler over a poor people.
13:10The prince, who is a great oppressor, lacks wisdom,
13:14but the one who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.
13:20The one who is tormented by the murder of another
13:22will flee to the pit.
13:25Let no one support him.
13:28The one who walks blamelessly will be delivered,
13:31but whoever is perverse in his ways will fall at once.
13:37The one who works his land will be satisfied with food,
13:41but whoever chases daydreams will have his fill of poverty.
13:47A faithful person will have an abundance of blessings,
13:51but the one who hastens to gain riches will not go unpunished.
13:57To show partiality is terrible,
14:00for a person will transgress over the smallest piece of bread.
14:05The stingy person hastens after riches
14:08and does not know that poverty will overtake him.
14:13The one who reproves another will in the end find more favour
14:17than the one who flatters with the tongue.
14:21The one who robs his mother and father and says,
14:24there is no transgression,
14:27is the companion of the one who destroys.
14:31The greedy person stirs up a dissension,
14:34but the one who trusts in the Lord will prosper.
14:38The one who trusts in his own heart is a fool.
14:42But the one who walks in wisdom will escape.
14:46The one who gives to the poor will not lack,
14:49but whoever shuts his eyes to them will receive many curses.
14:55When the wicked gain control, people hide themselves.
14:59But when they perish, the righteous increase.
15:03This is the word of the Lord.
15:07Thanks be to God.
15:19Mary said,
15:21My soul exalts the Lord,
15:24and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
15:28because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
15:34For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
15:38because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
15:42and holy is his name.
15:44From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
15:51He has demonstrated power with his arm.
15:55He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
16:01He has brought down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted up those of lowly position.
16:07He has filled the hungry with good things and has sent the rich away empty.
16:13He has helped his servant Israel,
16:17remembering his mercy as he promised to our ancestors,
16:21to Abraham and to his descendants forever.
16:26Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
16:31as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
16:36world without end.
16:38Amen.
16:46The Gospel according to St. Matthew, chapters 16 and 17.
16:54Jesus said to his disciples,
16:56If any man would come after me, let him give up all,
17:00take up his cross and come after me.
17:04Because whoever has a desire to keep his life safe
17:07will have it taken from him.
17:09But whoever gives up his life because of me,
17:13will have it given back to him.
17:16For what profit has a man if he gets all the world with the loss of his life?
17:22What will a man give in exchange for his life?
17:26For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels,
17:31and then he will give to every man the reward of his works.
17:37Surely, I say to you, there are some of those here will who not have a taste of death
17:42until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.
17:49After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, his brother,
17:54and made them go up with him into a high mountain by themselves.
18:01And he was changed in form before them.
18:04His face was shining like the sun,
18:07and his clothes became white as light.
18:13Moses and Elijah came before their eyes, talking with him.
18:19Peter made an answer and said,
18:21Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here.
18:25If you will let me, I will make here three tents,
18:28one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
18:34While he was still talking, a bright cloud came over them,
18:38and a voice came out of the cloud, saying,
18:40This is my dearly beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.
18:46Give ear to him.
18:49Of these words, the disciples went down on their faces in great fear.
18:54Jesus came and put his hand on them and said,
19:00Get up, have no fear.
19:04Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
19:11While they were coming down the mountain,
19:13Jesus gave them orders, saying,
19:15Let no man have word of what you have seen,
19:17until the Son of Man has come again from the dead.
19:23His disciples, questioning him, said,
19:25Why then do the scribes say that Elijah has to come first?
19:30In answer, Jesus said,
19:33Elijah truly has to come and put all things right.
19:37But I say to you that Elijah has come,
19:40and they had no knowledge of him,
19:42but did to him whatever they were pleased to do.
19:47The same will the Son of Man undergo at their hands.
19:53Then the disciples saw that he was talking to them of John the Baptist.
19:59This is the word of the Lord.
20:02Thanks be to God.
20:14Now, according to your word, Sovereign Lord,
20:18permit your servant to depart in peace.
20:21For my eyes have seen your salvation,
20:24that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
20:28a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
20:32and for glory to your people Israel.
20:37Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
20:41as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
20:45world without end.
20:48Amen.
20:52I believe in God the Father Almighty,
20:56Maker of heaven and earth,
20:58and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
21:02who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
21:05born of the Virgin Mary,
21:07suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
21:10was crucified, dead, and buried.
21:14He descended into hell.
21:15On the third day he rose again from the dead.
21:19He ascended into heaven,
21:22and is sitting at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
21:26From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
21:31I believe in the Holy Spirit,
21:33the Holy Catholic Church,
21:35the communion of saints,
21:37the forgiveness of sins,
21:39the resurrection of the body,
21:42and the life everlasting.
21:44Amen.
21:50The Lord be with you,
21:52and with your spirit.
21:57Let us pray.
22:00Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:04Christ, have mercy upon us.
22:08Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:15Our Father, who is in heaven,
22:18may your kingdom come.
22:23May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
22:28Give us this day our daily bread.
22:30Give us this day our daily bread.
22:30Forgive us our trespasses,
22:32as we forgive those who trespass against us.
22:37Lead us not into temptation,
22:39but deliver us from evil.
22:42For yours is the kingdom,
22:45the power and the glory,
22:47for ever and ever.
22:49Amen.
22:54O Lord, show your mercy upon us,
22:58and grant us your salvation.
23:03protect and guide those in authority over us,
23:08and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
23:14Endue your ministers with righteousness,
23:17and make your chosen people joyful.
23:22O Lord, save your people,
23:26and bless your inheritance.
23:30Give peace in our time, O Lord,
23:34because there is none other who fights for us,
23:37but only you, O God.
23:41O God, make clean our hearts within us,
23:45and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
23:57Let us pray.
24:00Grant to us, Lord, we beseech you,
24:04the Spirit to think and do always
24:06such things as be right,
24:09that we who cannot do anything
24:11that is good without you,
24:13may by you be enabled
24:15to live according to your will.
24:17Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
24:20Amen.
24:50O God,
24:50defended from the fear of our enemies,
24:53may pass our time in rest and quietness.
24:57Through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
25:00Amen.
25:06Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
25:09and by your great mercy defend us all
25:12from perils and dangers of this night.
25:16For the love of your only Son,
25:18our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
25:20Amen.
25:25Almighty God,
25:26who has given us grace at this time with one accord
25:29to make our common supplications to you,
25:33and promises that when two or three are gathered together in your name,
25:37you will grant their requests.
25:41Fulfill now, O Lord,
25:44the desires and petitions of your servants,
25:47as may be most beneficial for them,
25:51granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
25:54and in the world to come,
25:57life everlasting.
25:59Amen.
26:02May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
26:05and the love of God,
26:06and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
26:08be with us all evermore.
26:12Amen.
