00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name.
03:14Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace,
03:24that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ our
03:32Lord.
03:33Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
04:10Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
04:39as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
04:43world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:56Psalm 47
04:59All you nations, clap your hands,
05:02shout out to God in celebration.
05:05For the Lord Most High is awe-inspiring.
05:09He is the great King who rules the whole earth.
05:13He subdued nations beneath us, and countries under our feet.
05:18He picked out for us a special land to be a source of pride for Jacob,
05:23whom he loves.
05:25God has ascended his throne amid loud shouts.
05:29The Lord has ascended amid the blaring of ram's horns.
05:33Sing to God, sing, sing to our King, sing.
05:38For God is King of the whole earth.
05:41Sing a well-written song.
05:43God reigns over the nations.
05:45God sits on his holy throne.
05:49The nobles of the nations assemble,
05:51along with the people of the God of Abraham.
05:54For God has authority over the rules of the earth.
05:57He is highly exalted.
06:01Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
06:05As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
06:09World without end.
06:11Amen.
06:19The Lord is great, and certainly worthy of praise in the city of our God, his holy hill.
06:27It is lofty and pleasing to look at, a source of joy to the whole earth.
06:32Mount Zion resembles the peaks of Zaphon.
06:36It is the city of the great King.
06:39God is in its fortresses.
06:41He reveals himself as its defender.
06:45For look, the kings assemble.
06:47They advance together.
06:50As soon as they see, they are shocked.
06:52They are terrified.
06:54They quickly retreat.
06:56Look at them shake uncontrollably, like a woman writhing in childbirth.
07:02With an east wind, you shatter the large ships.
07:06We heard about God's mighty deeds, and now we have seen them.
07:11In the city of the Lord of Heaven's armies.
07:14In the city of our God.
07:17God makes it permanently secure.
07:21We reflect on your loyal love, O God, within your temple.
07:26The praise you receive as far away as the ends of the earth is worthy of your reputation, O God.
07:34You execute justice.
07:36Mount Zion rejoices.
07:39The towns of Judah are happy because of your acts of judgment.
07:44Walk around Zion.
07:46Encircle it.
07:47Count its towers.
07:50Consider its defences.
07:52Walk through its fortresses, so that you can tell the next generation about it.
07:57For God, our God, is our defender forever.
08:01He guides us.
08:04Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
08:08As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
08:13World without end.
08:15Amen.
08:19Psalm 49
08:23Listen to this, all you nations.
08:26Pay attention, all you inhabitants of the world.
08:31Pay attention, all you people, both rich and poor.
08:35I will declare a wise saying.
08:38I will share my profound thoughts.
08:41I will learn a song that imparts wisdom.
08:44I will then sing my insightful song to the accompaniment of a harp.
08:51Why should I be afraid in times of trouble, when the sinful deeds of deceptive men threaten to overwhelm me?
08:59They trust in their wealth, and boast in their great riches.
09:04Certainly a man cannot rescue his brother.
09:07He cannot pay God an adequate ransom price.
09:11For the ransom price of a human life is too high, and people go to their final destiny.
09:19So that he might continue to live forever and not experience death.
09:25Surely one sees that even wise people die.
09:28Fools and spiritually insensitive people all pass away and leave their wealth to others.
09:36Their grave becomes their permanent residence, their eternal dwelling place.
09:41They name their lands after themselves, but despite their wealth, people do not last.
09:49They are like animals that perish.
09:52This is the destiny of fools and of those who approve of their philosophy.
09:59They will travel to Sheol like sheep, with death as their shepherd.
10:04The godly will rule over them when the day of vindication dawns.
10:09Sheol will consume their bodies, and they will no longer live in impressive houses.
10:15But God will rescue my life from the power of Sheol.
10:20Certainly he will pull me to safety.
10:25Do not be afraid when a man becomes rich and his wealth multiplies.
10:29For he will take nothing with him when he dies.
10:33His wealth will not follow him down into the grave.
10:38He pronounces this blessing on himself while he is alive.
10:42May men praise you, for you have done well.
10:47But he will join his ancestors, and they will never again see the light of day.
10:54Wealthy people do not understand.
10:57They are like animals that perish.
11:00Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
11:05As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
11:10World without end.
11:13Amen.
11:32The prophet Jeremiah chapter 5
11:36Go quickly through the streets of Jerusalem.
11:39See now, get knowledge.
11:41Make a search in her for her wide places, if there is a man.
11:45If there is one in her who is upright, who keeps faith.
11:51And she will have my forgiveness.
11:54Though they say, by the living Lord, truly their oaths are false.
12:00O Lord, do not your eyes see good faith.
12:04You have given them punishment, but they were not troubled.
12:07You have sent destruction upon them, but they did not take your teaching to heart.
12:12They have made their faces harder than a rock.
12:15They would not come back.
12:19Then I said, but they are poor, they are foolish, for they have no knowledge of the way of the
12:25Lord or the behaviour desired by their God.
12:29I will go to the great men and talk with them, for they have knowledge of the way of the
12:34Lord and of the behaviour desired by their God.
12:39But as for these, their one purpose is a broken yoke and burst bands.
12:44So a lion from the woods will put them to death.
12:47A wolf of the wasteland will make them waste.
12:50A leopard will keep watch on their towns.
12:53And everyone who goes out from them will be food for the beasts.
12:56Because of the great number of their sins and the increase of their wrongdoing.
13:04How is it possible for you to have my forgiveness for this?
13:08Your children have given me up, taking their oaths by those who are no gods.
13:14When I gave them food in full measure, they were false to their wives, taking their pleasure in the houses
13:20of loose women.
13:22They were full of desire, like horses after a meal of grain.
13:27Everyone went after his neighbour's wife.
13:31Am I not to give punishment for these things, says the Lord?
13:38Will not my soul take payment from such a nation as this?
13:44Go up against her vines and make waste.
13:46Let the destruction be complete.
13:49Take away her branches, for they are not the Lord's.
13:53The people of Israel and the people of Judah has been false to me, says the Lord.
13:59They would have nothing to do with the Lord, saying,
14:01He will do nothing.
14:03No evil will come to us.
14:06We will not see the sword or be short of food.
14:09The prophets will become wind and the word is not in them.
14:17For this reason the Lord, the God of armies, has said,
14:21Because you have said this, I will make my words in your mouth a fire.
14:30See, I will send you a nation from far away, O people of Israel, says the Lord.
14:38A strong nation and an old nation.
14:41A nation whose language is strange to you, so that you will not get the sense of their words.
14:48Their arrows give certain death, for they are all men of war.
14:53They will take the produce of your fields, which will have been food for your sons and your daughters.
14:59They will take your flocks and your herds.
15:01They will take all your vines and your fig trees.
15:04With the sword they will make waste your walled towns, in which you put your faith.
15:12But even in those days, says the Lord, I will not let your destruction be complete.
15:18It will come about when you say,
15:20Why has the Lord, our God, done all these things to us?
15:25That you will say to them,
15:27As you gave me up, making yourselves servants to strange gods in your land,
15:32so will you be servants to strange men in a land which is not yours.
15:40Say this openly in Jacob, give it out in Judah,
15:44saying,
15:45Give ear now to this, O foolish people without sense,
15:48who have eyes but see nothing,
15:51and ears without the power of hearing.
15:54Have you no fear of me?
15:56Says the Lord.
15:57Will you not be shaking with fear before me,
16:00who have put the sand as a limit for the sea,
16:03by an eternal order,
16:05so that it may not go past it?
16:08And though it is ever in motion,
16:11it is not able to have its way.
16:13Though the sound of its waves is loud,
16:16they are not able to go past it.
16:20But the heart of this people is uncontrolled and turned away from me.
16:25They are broken loose and gone.
16:27They do not say in their hearts,
16:29Now let us give worship to our Lord,
16:32who gives us the rain, the winter and the spring rain at the right time,
16:35who keeps for us the ordered weeks of the grain cutting.
16:40Through your evil doing these things have been turned away,
16:44and your sins have kept back good from you.
16:49For there are sinners among my people.
16:52They keep watch, like men watching for birds.
16:56They put a net and take men in it.
16:59And as the foul house is full of birds,
17:02so their houses are full of deceit.
17:04For this reason, they have become great and have great wealth.
17:09They have become fat and strong.
17:11They have gone far in works of evil.
17:14They give no support to the cause of the child without a father,
17:18so that he may do well.
17:20They do not see that the poor man gets his rights.
17:26Am I not to give punishment for these things, says the Lord?
17:31Will not my soul take payment from such a nation as this?
17:36A thing of wonder and fear has come about in the land.
17:39The prophets give false words,
17:42and the priests give decision by their direction.
17:46My people are glad to have it so.
17:49And what will you do in the end?
17:53This is the word of the Lord.
17:56Thanks be to God.
18:11Mary said,
18:13My soul exalts the Lord,
18:15and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
18:20because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
18:25For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
18:29because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
18:34and holy is his name.
18:36From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
18:43He has demonstrated power with his arm.
18:46He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
18:52He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
18:55and has lifted up those of lowly position.
18:58He has filled the hungry with good things,
19:02and has sent the rich away empty.
19:05He has helped his servant Israel,
19:08remembering his mercy,
19:10as he promised to our ancestors,
19:13to Abraham,
19:14and to his descendants for ever.
19:18Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
19:22as it was in the beginning,
19:25is now and ever shall be,
19:27world without end.
19:29Amen.
19:38The Gospel according to St. Matthew, Chapter 21
19:44When he had come into the temple,
19:46the chief priests and those in authority over the people
19:49came to him while he was teaching, and said,
19:52By what authority do you do these things?
19:55Who gave you this authority?
19:58Jesus said to them in answer,
20:00I will put one question to you,
20:02and if you give me the answer,
20:04I will say by what authority I do these things.
20:09The baptism of John
20:11Where did it come from?
20:13From heaven or from men?
20:17They reasoned among themselves, saying,
20:20If we say from heaven, he will say to us,
20:22Why then do you not have faith in him?
20:25But if we say from men,
20:27we are in fear of the people,
20:29because all believe John to be a prophet.
20:32And so they replied,
20:34We have no idea.
20:36Then he said to them,
20:38Then I will not say to you,
20:39By what authority I do these things.
20:43But how does it seem to you?
20:45A man had two sons,
20:47and he came to the first, saying,
20:49Son, go and do work today in the vine garden.
20:53He said in answer,
20:54I will not.
20:56But later, changing his decision,
20:58he went.
21:00He came to the second and said the same.
21:03And he made answer and said,
21:05I go, sir.
21:07And then did not go.
21:09Which of the two did his father's pleasure?
21:13They said,
21:14The first.
21:15Jesus said to them,
21:17Truly, I say to you,
21:19the tax farmers and loose women
21:21will be going to the kingdom of God before you.
21:25For John came to you in the way of righteousness,
21:28and you had no faith in him.
21:30But the tax farmers and the loose women
21:32had faith in him.
21:34And when you saw it,
21:36you did not even have regret for your sins,
21:39so as to have faith.
21:42Listen to another story.
21:44A master of a house made a vine garden
21:47and put a wall around it.
21:48He made a place for crushing out the wine,
21:51a tower,
21:52and let it out to the field workers,
21:54going into another country.
21:58When the time for the fruit came near,
22:00he sent his servants to the workmen
22:02to collect the fruit.
22:04The workmen attacked his servants,
22:06giving blows to one,
22:08putting another to death,
22:09and stoning another.
22:12Again, he sent other servants,
22:14more in number than the first,
22:16that they did the same to them.
22:19After that,
22:20he sent his son to them,
22:21saying,
22:22They will have respect for my son.
22:24But when the workmen saw the son,
22:26they said amongst themselves,
22:28This is he who one day
22:30will be the owner of the property.
22:32Come, let us put him to death
22:34and take his heritage.
22:36And they took him,
22:37driving him out of the vine garden
22:39and put him to death.
22:42When then the lord of the vineyard comes,
22:46what will he do to those workmen?
22:50And they said to him,
22:52He will put the cruel men
22:53to a cruel death
22:54and will let out the vine garden
22:56to other workmen
22:57who will give him the fruit
22:59when it is ready.
23:04Jesus said to them,
23:05Do you never read in the scriptures
23:08the stone which the builders
23:10put on one side,
23:11the same has been made
23:13the chief stone of the building.
23:15This was the lord's doing
23:17and it is a wonder in our eyes.
23:21For this reason I say to you,
23:23the kingdom of God
23:24will be taken away from you
23:26and will be given to a nation
23:28producing the fruits of it.
23:31Any man falling on this stone
23:33will be broken,
23:34but he on whom it comes down
23:36will be crushed to dust.
23:40When his stories came to the ears
23:42of the chief priests
23:43and the Pharisees,
23:44they saw immediately
23:46that he was talking about them
23:48and though they had a desire
23:50to take him,
23:51they were in fear of the people
23:53because in their eyes
23:55he was a prophet.
23:57This is the word of the Lord.
24:00Thanks be to God.
24:12Now according to your word,
24:15Sovereign Lord,
24:16permit your servant
24:17to depart in peace.
24:19For my eyes have seen
24:21your salvation
24:22that you have prepared
24:24in the presence of all peoples,
24:27a light for revelation
24:29to the Gentiles
24:30and for glory
24:31to your people Israel.
24:35Glory be to the Father
24:37and to the Son
24:38and to the Holy Spirit,
24:39as it was in the beginning,
24:41is now and ever shall be,
24:43world without end.
24:46Amen.
24:51I believe in God,
24:53the Father Almighty,
24:54maker of heaven and earth,
24:56and in Jesus Christ,
24:58his only Son,
24:58our Lord,
25:00who was conceived
25:01by the Holy Spirit,
25:03born of the Virgin Mary,
25:05suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
25:08was crucified,
25:10dead,
25:11and buried.
25:12He descended into hell.
25:14On the third day,
25:15he rose again from the dead.
25:18He ascended into heaven
25:20and is sitting at the right hand
25:22of God the Father Almighty.
25:25From there,
25:26he shall come to judge
25:27the living and the dead.
25:29I believe in the Holy Spirit,
25:32the Holy Catholic Church,
25:34the communion of saints,
25:35the forgiveness of sins,
25:37the resurrection of the body,
25:40and the life everlasting.
25:43Amen.
25:48The Lord be with you
25:51and with your spirit.
25:55Let us pray.
25:58Lord, have mercy upon us.
26:02Christ, have mercy upon us.
26:06Lord, have mercy upon us.
26:13Our Father,
26:14who is in heaven,
26:16holy is your name.
26:19May your kingdom come.
26:21May your will be done
26:23on earth as it is in heaven.
26:26Give us this day
26:27our daily bread.
26:28Forgive us our trespasses,
26:31as we forgive those
26:32who trespass against us.
26:35Lead us not into temptation,
26:37but deliver us from evil.
26:41For yours is the kingdom,
26:43the power and the glory,
26:45for ever and ever.
26:48Amen.
26:53O Lord, show your mercy upon us
26:55and grant us your salvation.
27:01Protect and guide those
27:03in authority over us
27:06and mercifully hear us
27:09when we call upon you.
27:12Endue your ministers
27:13with righteousness
27:15and make your chosen people joyful.
27:21O Lord, save your people
27:24and bless your inheritance.
27:29Give peace in our time,
27:31O Lord,
27:33because there is none other
27:34who fights for us
27:35but only you,
27:37O God.
27:39O God, make clean
27:41our hearts within us
27:44and take not
27:45your Holy Spirit
27:46from us.
27:55Let us pray.
27:59Let your merciful ears,
28:01O Lord,
28:02be open to the prayers
28:03of your humble servants,
28:04that they may obtain
28:06their petitions,
28:07make them ask such things
28:09as will please you.
28:10Through Jesus Christ,
28:12our Lord.
28:13Amen.
28:22O God,
28:23from whom all holy desires,
28:26all good counsels
28:27and all just works proceed,
28:30give to your servants
28:32that peace
28:32which the world cannot give,
