01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.

06:26The arrogant dig pits to trap me, which violate your law.
06:31All your commands are reliable.
06:34I am pursued without reason.

06:39They have almost destroyed me here on the earth.
06:42But I do not reject your precepts.
06:46Revive me with your loyal love, that I might keep the rules you have revealed.
06:53O Lord, your instructions endure.
06:55They stand secure in heaven.
06:58You demonstrate your faithfulness to all generations.
07:02You established the earth, and it stood firm.
07:06Today they stand firm by your decrees, for all things are your servants.
07:12If I had not found encouragement in your law, I would have died in my sorrow.
07:19I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have revived me.

07:27Deliver me, for I seek your precepts.
07:31The wicked prepare to kill me, and yet I concentrate on your rules.
07:38I realize that everything has its limits, but your commands are full comprehension.

07:48All day long I meditate on it.

08:55The Prophet Jeremiah, Chapter 26
09:01The Lord spoke to Jeremiah at the beginning of the reign of Josiah's son,
09:05King Jehoiakim of Judah.
09:08The Lord said,
09:10Go, stand in the courtyard of the Lord's temple,
09:13and speak out to all the people who are coming from the towns of Judah
09:17to worship in the Lord's temple.
09:20Tell them everything I command you to tell them.
09:22Do not leave out a single word.
09:25Maybe they will pay attention,
09:27and each of them will stop living the evil way they do.
09:32If they do that,
09:33then I will forego destroying them as I had intended to,
09:37because of the wicked things they are doing.
09:41Tell them that the Lord says,
09:43You must obey me.
09:44You must live according to the way
09:47I have instructed you in my laws.
09:50You must pay attention to the exhortations of my servants, the prophets.
09:55I have sent them to you over and over again,
09:59but you have not paid any attention to them.
10:03If you do not obey me,
10:04then I will do to this temple what I did to Shiloh,
10:08and I will make this city an example to be used in curses
10:12by people from all the nations of the earth.
10:18The priests, the prophets, and all the people
10:21heard Jeremiah say these things in the Lord's temple.
10:26Jeremiah had barely finished saying
10:28all that the Lord had commanded him to say to the people.
10:32At once, some of the priests, the prophets, and the people
10:35grabbed him, shouting,
10:37You deserve to die.
10:39How dare you claim the Lord's authority
10:41to prophesy such things?
10:43How dare you claim his authority
10:45to prophesy that this temple
10:47will become like Shiloh,
10:49and that this city will become an uninhabited ruin?
10:54And the people crowded around Jeremiah.
10:59However, some of the officials of Judah
11:01heard about what was happening,
11:03and they rushed up to the Lord's temple
11:05from the royal palace,
11:07and they set up court
11:09at the entrance of the new gate
11:11to the Lord's temple.
11:13Then the priests and the prophets
11:15made their charges before the officials
11:17and all the people.
11:19They said,
11:20This man should be condemned to die
11:22because he prophesied against our city.
11:25You have heard him do so
11:26with your own ears.
11:31Then Jeremiah made his defense
11:33before the officials and all the people.
11:36The Lord sent me to prophesy
11:38everything you have heard me say
11:40against this temple
11:41and against this city.
11:44But correct the way you have been living
11:46and do what is right.
11:48Obey the Lord your God.
11:51If you do,
11:52the Lord will forego destroying you
11:54as he threatened he would.
11:57As to my case,
11:58I am in your power.
12:00Do to me what you deem fair and proper.
12:03But you should take careful
12:05doubt of one thing.
12:07If you put me to death,
12:09you will bring upon yourselves
12:10at this city
12:11and those who live in it
12:12the guilt of murdering
12:14an innocent man.
12:16For the Lord has sent me
12:18to speak all this
12:19where you can hear it.
12:21And that is the truth.
12:27Then the officials
12:28and all the people
12:29rendered their verdict
12:30to the priests
12:31and the prophets.
12:32They said,
12:33This man should not
12:34be condemned to die
12:36for he has spoken to us
12:38under the authority
12:39of the Lord our God.
12:43Then some of the elders
12:44of Judah
12:45stepped forward
12:46and spoke to the people
12:47gathered there.
12:49They said,
12:50Micah from Boreshep
12:52prophesied
12:52during the time
12:53of Hezekiah.
12:55He told all the people
12:56of Judah.
12:58The Lord who rules
12:59over all says,
13:01Zion will become
13:02a cloud field.
13:03Jerusalem will become
13:05a pile of rubble.
13:06The Temple Mount
13:07will become
13:08a mere wooden ridge.
13:12King Hezekiah
13:13and all the people
13:14of Judah
13:14did not put him
13:15to death,
13:16did they?
13:18Did not Hezekiah
13:19show reverence
13:20for the Lord
13:20and seek the Lord's favour?
13:23Did not the Lord
13:24forego destroying them
13:26as he threatened
13:27he would?
13:29But we are on the point
13:31of bringing great
13:32disaster upon ourselves.
13:36Now there was
13:37another man
13:37who prophesied
13:38as the Lord's
13:39representative
13:39against this city
13:41and land
13:42just as Jeremiah did.
13:46His name was
13:47Uriah
13:48son of Shemaiah
13:48from Kiriath-Jean.
13:51When the king
13:52and his bodyguards
13:53and officials
13:53heard that he was
13:55prophesying
13:55the king
13:56sought to have him
13:58executed.
14:00But Uriah
14:01found out about it
14:02and fled to Egypt
14:04out of fear.
14:07However,
14:08King Jehoiachim
14:09sent men
14:10to Egypt
14:10including
14:11El-Nathan
14:12son of Achbor
14:13and they brought
14:14Uriah back
14:15from there.
14:17They took him
14:18to King Jehoiachim
14:19who had him
14:20executed
14:21and had his body
14:22thrown into
14:23the burial place
14:24of the common people.
14:29However,
14:31Achicham
14:32son of Shaphan
14:33used his influence
14:34to keep Jeremiah
14:35from being handed over
14:37and executed
14:38by the people.
14:40This
14:41is the word
14:42of the Lord.

15:50away empty.

15:53his servant Israel
15:54remembering
15:56his mercy
15:56as he promised
15:58to our ancestors
15:59to Abraham
