00:00Let's go to the Make It Right, Call Kyle Wright hotline.
00:04We welcome in Charles Davis, NFL Network analyst.
00:06You can see Charles throughout NFL Network's coverage of the 2026 NFL Draft
00:11in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, starting Thursday.
00:13That's tomorrow night, 8 p.m.
00:15Charles, thanks for joining us.
00:17And who do you think the Browns should take at 6-24 if they stay there?
00:22Ooh, great question to get started, right?
00:27Let's see.
00:28What did I do with my last final, final, final mock draft?
00:34Offensive lineman, Francis Malanoa at 6.
00:41And then I did a major changeup at 24 because you would expect receiver.
00:46I went with Manuel McNeil Warren, the safety out of Toledo.
00:53Wow.
00:55Safety at 24.
00:58That would throw people.
01:00Yeah, it would.
01:01Yes, it would.
01:02Yeah, Charles, a big part of the conversation, and this isn't just this draft where it doesn't
01:07seem like the elite prospects are there for premium positions, but as you and I both know,
01:12we will all laugh at that in a year or two years, or maybe instantly.
01:16Yeah, absolutely.
01:16You know, they're Hall of Famers in every draft.
01:18So, the thought has always been you've got to prioritize the lines and offensive line when you don't have them.
01:26You've got to go get them at the earliest possible time because receivers are always available later in the first
01:33round.
01:33They can be really good.
01:34But the problem is, this draft, according to the projections, those tackles are not turnkey and not ready to go
01:41there at No. 6.
01:43Yeah, it's a little different, isn't it?
01:45We're talking about a lot of, are we going to do a Jedrick Wills where you draft a right tackle
01:51and project him as a left tackle in the NFL?
01:54Because it does happen where people make that move.
01:57Tristan Works has made it quite well.
01:59It looks like Detroit's going to do a Panay Sewell, and none of us expect him to be anything but
02:05dominant as he's been at the right tackle, so we'll see how it goes.
02:08But still, making that projection is a little bit different.
02:12Out of these tackles, the guys who are really, truly have been left tackles in their college careers, Caleb Lomu
02:18from Utah, who's not rated high enough that you would take him at 6.
02:23And I think Monroe Freeling from Georgia, who's essentially a one-and-a-half-year starter, not a ton of
02:29experience.
02:31And we love his athleticism.
02:33We love his projection.
02:35But you haven't watched it, right?
02:37I, Caden Proctor from Alabama has been a left tackle.
02:40I'm not sure anybody's going to jump him up to 6.
02:43And I think a lot of people see him as more of a right tackle or even a guard going
02:46forward.
02:47So that's where it's going to get very interesting.
02:49Because to me, if I'm the Browns, left tackle is much more what I'm prioritizing.
02:55Because I think you're, right, is it DeJuan Jones?
02:59To me, he's, huh?
03:01Is he projected there right now?
03:03Over at left side?
03:05Who's projected on the left side as he's sitting here today?
03:09Yeah, as of right, as of today, it would be DeJuan Jones, yes.
03:14See, see, that's, I wouldn't be comfortable with that.
03:17I mean, that just wouldn't fit for me at all.
03:19I mean, to me, he's right tackle 24-7, 365.
03:24But, you know, we'll see how it goes.
03:26But your point is well taken.
03:28Do we have those guys?
03:29Look, Joe Thomas isn't coming back through that door.
03:32We know that, but do we have a facsimile of Joe Thomas that can walk through that door?
03:37That's where it's going to get interesting.
03:39And if you're going to have to draft another tackle and maybe DeJuan Jones is your left tackle, that may
03:44be it.
03:45But that offensive line, which was one of the best ones in the NFL not that long ago, boy, those
03:51days are over, aren't they?
03:52Don't remind us, Charles Davis, right now on the hotline.
03:56So, the other line of thinking seems to be from Browns fans that if Carnell Tate is there at number
04:02six, you just run up to the podium.
04:05You take him.
04:05You make your selection.
04:07Where are you on him?
04:08Ohio State's had so many talented wide receivers, and some get lost in the shuffle.
04:13Next thing you know, Jackson Smith and Jigba is the best in the game.
04:16Like, it happens so quickly.
04:17So, does Carnell Tate have a chance to be anything close to that?
04:21He does.
04:22Absolutely, he does.
04:23He has everything that the other guys have exhibited in terms of the training, the professionalism, the ability to go
04:30get the football, the route running.
04:32Does he have the pure blazing speed?
04:34No.
04:34But does Abuka?
04:36Does JSN?
04:37You know, these guys just know how to play.
04:40And their ability to create space for themselves, doesn't matter what speed they're running, is extraordinary.
04:47And I always come back to, in this run of receivers for Ohio State under Brian Hartline, who's now the
04:54head coach of USF, as we know, who's really missed?
04:58Know what I'm saying?
04:59Like, when they've gotten to the NFL, who's gotten to the NFL and we've gone, eh?
05:04People are trying to sell me on Marvin Harrison like that.
05:07And I'm like, well, we're just going to year three.
05:08And boy, has that been an uncertain situation in Arizona.
05:11I'm not willing to give up on him just yet.
05:13So, all in all, you like what you're getting there.
05:16You feel like you know what you're getting out of these receivers.
05:20And I think Tate still, I don't care that he ran 4-5-2 at the combine.
05:24You know, I don't care that.
05:25Because you remember after that, there was all that protest from his camp.
05:29Hey, you know, the people timed him at a better time and all that.
05:33He didn't run at the pro day.
05:35So, that told me everything I needed to know.
05:37Yeah, you know you're not that fast.
05:39All right, you know you're not that speed.
05:41Make your protest, but don't run and not prove it.
05:45That's why it was fine.
05:47But at 4-5-2, we act like that's slow as molasses.
05:49It's not.
05:50It's fine.
05:51Okay?
05:52A lot of 4-5-2 guys that are, you know, playing really well in this league.
05:57And Jerry Rice was a lot slower than that.
05:59And he's maybe the best receiver we've ever seen.
06:01Have general fans ever come up to you and bickered about guys being slow as wide receivers in the NFL?
06:06Any name starters at all?
06:08Like, I can't imagine we're going to be sitting here at the end of the year going,
06:10Oh, my God.
06:11It's like he's running with cement shoes on.
06:13Yeah.
06:14You just don't really hear it.
06:15I mean, you would hear it if Jake Bobo in Seattle was a front-line receiver.
06:22Right?
06:22If Jake Bobo was a front-line receiver running 4-9 coming out, you would hear it then.
06:27Oh, by the way, Jake Bobo caught a big-time touchdown pass in the playoffs this year.
06:32I know it's a one-off, but all I'm saying is the straight-line speed can get so skewed, and
06:39we have skewed it, because the combine has turned these guys into absolute, truly track stars.
06:45And I've always been one of those, and it drives me crazy when we as announcers, you know, as I
06:51said, we.
06:51So this is not me pointing fingers.
06:53I'm involved.
06:55Oh, he's got world-class speed.
06:58No, he doesn't.
06:59Do you guys know what world-class speed is?
07:01Those guys thundered down the track of the Olympics.
07:04And then our guys go and run with them, and they can't keep up.
07:07Okay?
07:08That's world-class speed.
07:10Very few people actually truly possess it.
07:13But when I go to the combine, I'm starting to reassess, because these guys are flying.
07:19And they've turned 4-5 into looking slow.
07:23And 4-5 is fast.
07:25I'm sorry.
07:26Charles Davis, join us right now on the hotline, loving his draft perspective.
07:31We did have the situation that we have every year with Miles Garrett, where he does not show up to
07:37all the different, you know, early camp practices.
07:43And, of course, none of it's mandatory.
07:44But we've seen some of the stars on other teams, like Lamar Jackson in Baltimore, do it.
07:49And then the coach has to ask questions, and he seems annoyed by the reporters asking those questions.
07:54Obviously, ideally, in a perfect world, you'd love to have every guy at everything.
07:58Do you think that could have been helpful to maybe set the tone with a new head coach and a
08:02new defensive coordinator?
08:04Sure.
08:05Absolutely.
08:07By the time we get to camp in July, August, it's a non-issue again.
08:13But, yeah, sure, it's always great when everyone's there and the whole deal.
08:16Just think about how it is within your division that Lamar Jackson showed up for stuff this offseason when he
08:22hadn't done that under John Harbaugh.
08:24But now he's doing it under Jesse Minter.
08:27Think about what's going on in the Crescent City with all that.
08:30Oh, well, that tells us why we felt about John Harbaugh.
08:33I mean, oh, God, here we go.
08:35So, yeah, sure would have been helpful, absolutely.
08:41I don't think anyone within the organization and any Browns fan who has watched Miles Garrett play truly rolls over
08:49in the middle of the night and goes,
08:50Oh, my God, he didn't go to the offseason stuff.
08:53I don't know if he's going to be ready to go this year.
08:57Yeah, forget it.
08:58Thank God.
08:59Charles Davis joining us on the show.
09:01All right, right now, who do you think would be the starter week one for the Browns?
09:04Deshaun Watson or Shador Sanders?
09:11I wouldn't.
09:12I've been on record.
09:13I continue to stay on record.
09:15I would have cut my losses with Deshaun Watson and figured out something a long time ago.
09:20That's just me.
09:22Other teams have done it, you know, moved on from those quarterbacks, eaten the thing, the whole deal.
09:27The Browns have chosen not to.
09:29More power to them.
09:30If that's the case, Deshaun Watson has a heck of a chance of being the starter, and I think he's
09:34going to be.
09:35If you're going to keep him around and give him a fair shot to win it, I think that he's
09:40going to win that job.
09:41I'm not quite sure what gets accomplished there.
09:44Ultimately, are you going to redo a deal?
09:47Let's say he has a big year.
09:48If he has a big year, you're going to redo and bring him back and all that.
09:51There's so many permutations to go into it.
09:53I would have moved on myself, but that's just me.
09:56But I do think that, you know, I've gone circles here.
09:59I don't mean to, Andrew.
10:01I'm going to say Deshaun Watson is going to line up and be the starter on opening day.
10:06Charles Davis on the Make It Right Call Kyle Wright hotline.
10:10You can see him on the continued coverage throughout NFL Network's coverage of the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh starting
10:18Thursday at 8 p.m. Eastern.
10:21Charles, you're always wonderful.
10:22Thank you so much for the time.
10:23All the best to you and yours.
10:25Hey, thanks a lot, guys.
10:26I appreciate you.
10:27Have fun.
10:28The outstanding Charles Davis on the Make It Right Call Kyle Wright hotline.
10:32How do you think that they'd react if on Saturday night, I know Emmanuel McNeil warned technically local.
10:39I mean, depending on how local you want to be, Toledo.
10:42But went to Toledo.
10:45So, if they took a defensive guy, how do you think the reaction would be?
10:48Defense at, you're talking 24?
10:51At six, I think there might be, depending on who it is.
10:55I'd be stunned if they did that at number six overall.
10:57And, you know, they're going to have a chance to take Caleb Downs.
10:59Well, I think that's what I was going to bring up.
11:01I think if they took a safety in the first round and it wasn't Caleb Downs, I think people would
11:07be pretty upset.
11:08Because at least Caleb Downs comes in and immediately puts pressure on the guys that are on the roster.
11:14I don't know.
11:16That is as different as I've ever seen.
11:19Like, there was a guy from The Athletic that Nick just highlighted earlier today that has us taking two offensive
11:24linemen.
11:24There's a trade down in his mock draft.
11:26Has us taking Caden Proctor at 13.
11:30And then Janichur, I think, at number 24, if my memory is correct.
11:35But to go offensive line with CeCe Maloneau and then Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at number 24, boy, that is different.
11:44Because that's no wide receivers.
11:45And then by the second round at 39, what do you got as far as top-end wide receivers?
11:50That is a tough sell to the fan base.
11:53They might be great players, but, man, they are locked in on a weapon somewhere in this draft.
