00:00Let's go to the Make It Right, Call Call, Call, Right hotline and welcome in Mary Kay.
00:03All right, I had one of the, probably the most vague things ever to bring you on right before the
00:09break, Mary Kay,
00:09when I was like, well, the Browns are already planning futures for you-know-who and you-know-who.
00:15Like, anybody knows that, but Mary Kay knows who they are, so let's run it by Mary Kay.
00:19And she joins us right now, again, on that Make It Right, Call Call, Call, Right hotline.
00:21Hello, Mary Kay.
00:23Hey, how are you?
00:24We're doing well.
00:26The Browns, I'm just going to get right to the juggler here.
00:30The Browns have proposed a new rule where you can trade picks five years into the future, which is a
00:36long time.
00:36So, A, are they thinking about Arch Manning already?
00:40B, are they thinking about the future of where Miles Garrett will finish his career already?
00:46You know, I don't know if any of those things are necessarily connected.
00:52I don't see them wanting Miles Garrett to finish his career anywhere but here, probably.
00:59So, we'll have to see how that one goes.
01:01I don't really know what the future holds for him.
01:05And I think we will know more about this rule and about, you know, how they feel about some of
01:11these guys.
01:12When we go to the NFL owners meetings in a couple of weeks, we can really pick the brains of
01:16Andrew Barry and the Haslams and Todd Munkin.
01:19So, we'll have a better feel for it then.
01:22But I don't think it necessarily informs their plans for Miles.
01:30My theory, Mary Kay, is that they want to set this up like NBA teams do.
01:35You know, the Browns lost three straight years of first-round picks to get Deshaun Watson.
01:41And my theory is they want to position themselves and give other teams the opportunity to kind of like space
01:49that out, right?
01:50So, if you want to make another big deal and give up three first-round picks, it doesn't have to
01:54be in the three consecutive years.
01:56You can space that pain out.
01:59Do you think that that's more likely the motive behind this?
02:03Or just what do you think the motive behind this is coming from Andrew Barry and the Browns?
02:09You know, once again, not really sure because we haven't had a chance to talk to them yet.
02:13But I would just think maximizing any opportunity to go out there and wheel and deal.
02:18You have seen over the past few years, teams are trading a lot more than they used to.
02:23And now at the trade deadline, you're seeing a lot of activity.
02:27And I think they just want to have more options and, like you said, maybe more NBA vibe to it
02:34where you can spread it out.
02:36Like you said, where you can ease the pain a little bit over the future years.
02:44And, you know, they were the ones that also tried to increase the trade deadline by two weeks.
02:51It ended up being only one week, but they had proposed two more weeks.
02:56Andrew loves to wheel and deal.
02:58He loves to make trades.
02:59And I'm sure while they're in the process of doing this, they see that they can really expand their horizons
03:04a lot with something like this.
03:06Mary Kay Cabot joining us on the show.
03:08I really like A.J. Epinesa.
03:10I think that this is – I wrote not bad when they made this move, Mary Kay, when you announced
03:15this yesterday on social media.
03:17Because it's like, hey, your defensive line has been good.
03:19Let's lean into it a little bit more and make it even better.
03:23Well, they lost Cam Thomas to the Falcons, and you need depth on that line.
03:28So, Epinesa comes in here.
03:30He, in three straight years, he had six and a half, six and a half, and six sacks.
03:35It was last year that he only had two.
03:38But he's someone that can give you a nice rotational piece, a situational edge rusher that can provide some sacks.
03:45And they need somebody else besides Miles who can do that.
03:48And I think in this defense that he will fare very well.
03:52You know, Andrew Barry at the Combine had mentioned that youth does not mean that you can't win in the
04:01NFL.
04:02And looking at what they've done to this point, Mary Kay, in the offseason with the offensive line,
04:10bringing in some pieces here and there, being selective how they're spending their money,
04:16nothing has really surprised me to this point.
04:18And it really does feel like that they're going to continue to lean in to that youth movement with their
04:26draft picks
04:27and kind of fill in these holes.
04:29My question to you is, assuming that they're going to draft skill position guys here in April,
04:38will that be enough to make this team better for Todd Munkin?
04:43Because right now, offensively, for an offense that barely scored 16, 17 points per game,
04:51it kind of feels like they've tread water to this point, that they're just one-for-one type of an
04:56exchange.
04:56So do you think they can get demonstratively better offensively just through the draft?
05:03Well, I do. Again, it all comes back down to the quarterback and who's going to be playing quarterback for
05:09them.
05:09But I do see a brighter future for the offense for a number of reasons.
05:14First of all, they had to fix the offensive line. And so far, they've done that very well.
05:18I think they'll still add a couple more pieces to that offensive line, possibly even a new left tackle.
05:24So starting with the line, you have to do that.
05:28And then, once again, it's going to come down to what happens at quarterback.
05:31But I do think that they will add a couple of flashier pieces for the offense.
05:36I think you'll see a receiver or two coming in here, maybe a new tight end coming in here through
05:41the draft.
05:42So you will have some guys with the skill positions.
05:45But then also, you have to remember that you've got a bunch of really young guys from last year
05:51that are going to be growing up a lot and elevating their game and taking it to the next level
05:55in 2026.
05:57And Harold Fannin already had a really nice rookie year, but he should be even better.
06:02And then I think Isaiah Bond will be better next year.
06:05And you've got Quinshawn and Dylan who are both going to take their game up,
06:09providing Quinshawn is healthy and ready to go, which he should be.
06:13So just by virtue of those guys taking their game up the next notch,
06:19I think that is going to help this offense tremendously.
06:22And then you've got a new vibe, a new sheriff in town in Todd Munkin,
06:26who will bring his own stamp to this offense.
06:29Mary Kay joining us here on the Make It Right Call Call Right Hotline.
06:32Mary Kay, is there any conversation at all about overreaching for certain players?
06:40Like a Monroe Freeling, man, it seems like number six overall.
06:44Very rich, very rich for my blood, where he might be a good player in a couple years,
06:50but I don't think we have the patience to wait.
06:53Well, I'm sure that's part of the discussion,
06:55and I'm sure that they are looking into that very heavily right now.
06:59And they still have a lot of draft work to do.
07:02They are not done yet by any stretch of the imagination.
07:05They're still working through their top 30 visits.
07:07We'll be hearing more and more about those in the coming weeks.
07:11And once again, you know, we have to dig in more at the owners' meetings and whatnot.
07:16But I don't think that they are ready to make their decision yet at number six,
07:21or I don't think they're ready to decide yet if they are staying at number six.
07:26These are all things that will be decided over the next four weeks or so, five weeks or so.
07:32And I still think there's a good chance that if they can trade down, perhaps they will,
07:38because they do need assets.
07:39They do need draft capital.
07:41Having said that, however, I think there are a number of players that can warrant that number six pick.
07:47So maybe they do stay there, but I think the inclination will be to trade down some,
07:52especially knowing that you have another pick coming at 24.
07:55I like that.
07:56I like that idea.
07:57Now, what if, how enticing is wide receiver there at number six?
08:02Is there anybody that can blow their doors off and make you change that opinion?
08:06Maybe you even?
08:07Well, I think there are receivers that warrant the number six overall pick.
08:12You know, I definitely think that, you know, you could be justified in taking a Carnell Tate
08:18or a Jordan Tyson there, maybe even a Makai Lemon there.
08:22But I don't know if they would take one that high.
08:25I think that would be another possible trade down scenario where you'd go a little bit later
08:30with one of those guys.
08:31But certainly any of those guys will be under consideration at number six,
08:36as will the top tackles that, you know, we keep recycling and talking about, including Freeling.
08:43So, yeah, I do think that receiver, tackle, and then I just have to wonder.
08:48I mean, we've talked about this plenty of times.
08:51I just have to wonder how much they would consider a Simpson at number six overall.
08:59I know that he's on their radar.
09:01I know they're working on him.
09:02I know they like him.
09:04I don't know how much they like him.
09:06Only 15 starts at Alabama.
09:08I've been watching some of his film.
09:10I'm very impressed with a lot of things that he does.
09:13But I just don't know if he's someone that they're thinking of in those terms at this point.
09:19I was just about to ask you about Ty Simpson, Mary Kay, because you're right.
09:24There seems to be some tangible buzz about him and the Browns here.
09:33I've been playing a game regularly, Ty Simpson or future 2027 quarterback prospect.
09:42Who is better?
09:43And I keep coming back to the 2027 quarterback prospects intrigue me a little more than Ty Simpson.
09:53And I don't know, just you said he, you know, you're impressed with what you see on, you know, some
10:00of the tape that you're watching of him.
10:03If they take him, that takes that takes them out of 2027.
10:08Do you think he's worth taking yourself out of the 2027 projected QB class?
10:16That is the big X factor.
10:18That is something that you would have to decide.
10:20You would have to weigh him against what you think you can get in 2027 and what kind of picks
10:27are you going to have in 2027.
10:29If you take yourself out of the Ty Simpson sweepstakes this year, then you're going to have to be pretty
10:36sure that you can get your hands on one of the guys coming out next year that you really like
10:42a lot.
10:42So, you know, that's that's the consideration.
10:45Are there four, maybe five guys that you like as much as you like Ty Simpson this year?
10:51Or are you positioned this year in a spot where you can get your hands on the second best quarterback
10:59in this draft?
11:00Some might even think the best quarterback in this draft.
11:05So it's just something that they're going to have to figure out over the next five or six weeks.
11:09And I think it's going to be something that could help determine their future over the next even decade.
11:17I'm laughing right now.
11:19People can see me on YouTube and I'm not laughing at Daryl's question.
11:21I'm not laughing at your answer.
11:23I'm thinking about something.
11:24I kind of think you were laughing at me, Ken.
11:25Because I'm thinking about something.
11:26I'm thinking about what I ranted and raved about at seven o'clock and how that's actually opened me up
11:32to Ty Simpson some way somehow.
11:34Because I'm trying to avoid some fake scenario between radio show hosts about trading for picks and things or trading
11:41for Jalen Hurts and things like that.
11:42And I'm like, no, we'll just go get Ty Simpson.
11:44So that it's just a crazy thing of what that does to my head.
11:47Is defense out of the question for them?
11:50You said their work's not done.
11:52They have a lot on defense.
11:53I mean, they got a lot of talent on that defense, Mary Kay.
11:56Is it like out of the question that they're going to draft anybody high or is it still like, hey,
12:01you know what?
12:02Best player available is simply that.
12:03Best player available.
12:04If that guy's on defense, we're taking that guy on defense.
12:07Well, remember, Andrew goes into the draft acting as though, and they all do.
12:12They go into the draft acting as though they are restocking an expansion team or stocking an expansion team.
12:18So absolutely.
12:19Well, they usually play like one.
12:20So I'm sorry.
12:22I'm sorry.
12:23I'm sorry.
12:25Well, so defense can absolutely 100% be in play with some of those top three picks that they have.
12:33At number six, perhaps, you know, number 24, maybe 39.
12:39Sure, any of those picks, a defensive player, a dominant defensive player would be in play there.
12:45And then the other thing to consider with the number six overall pick,
12:49they're going to have to make sure that they seem or express interest in many players there because of the
13:00fact that if you want somebody to come up and grab that pick,
13:03you've got to talk up some of these guys, like really big.
13:06So I think that's something to watch over the next five weeks or so that, you know,
13:12you will be hearing that they're interested in Reese and Downs and Tate and Simpson and Freeling and pretty much
13:21everyone
13:21because they need interest in that pick if they hope to pick up some assets for next year.
13:28Do the Browns win a trophy for being the masters of the salary?
13:31Oh, here we go.
13:34Well, they are good at it.
13:36They are good at it.
13:37I think that they were really early on to the, you know, the restructure bonus and, you know,
13:45giving everyone, all the veterans, a 1.2 whatever billion base and then a huge restructure bonus.
13:52You have to have the money to be able to do that.
13:54But teams do have that kind of money now.
13:56It's not like back in the Art Modell days where, you know, you had to borrow from the bank to
14:01pay.
14:02Five different banks.
14:03Five different banks for Andre Risen.
14:05Andre Risen, baby.
14:07I mean, now, you know.
14:08The poor left eye set his house on fire, RIP.
14:11I talked to her about that at training camp one day, by the way.
14:14You talked to her about setting his house on fire?
14:16I did.
14:17Can you tell us what she said or is that still, you know?
14:21You don't have to tell us.
14:22I don't think I should go there, but he wasn't happy at all that I had this conversation.
14:27I didn't bring it up.
14:28We were just having a nice little chat at training camp one day, and she's the one that brought it
14:33up.
14:33Well, you know, Liz, well, if you want to talk to Liz about someday setting my house on fire, you
14:38go right on ahead.
14:39Well, I can keep a secret.
14:41So if she tells me why, I probably won't.
14:44I won't tell anybody.
14:47I mean, I can't imagine I'd ever do something to get the house set on fire, but, you know, I'm
14:52still a relatively middle-aged man, so we'll see what happens.
14:56Mary Kay, thank you so much for the time.
14:58All the best to you and yours, and, of course, we'll talk to you again next week.
15:02Thank you so much.
15:03Sounds good.
15:03Thanks, guys.
15:04Mary Kay Cabot on the Make It Right, Call Kyle Right hotline.
15:07Is it wrong that I could see you doing something to get your house set on fire by your wife?
15:12Well, no.
15:14You know what you want to ask.
15:16You know what happened earlier this week.
15:18Should she start with the couch?
15:20I, uh, no, because I said to Lima, all right.
