00:00you know him you love him a ray of sunshine a ray of positive energy is coming our way
00:04our good buddy daryl ryder brought to you by shivan jewelers cleveland's premier jewelry
00:09store welcome to the show sir hello daryl boys did you hear jeff phelps's take that many people
00:15are now mad at him on the internet for uh i i'm guessing that was just it that was it
00:21yes you
00:22are correct that was a very good uh good job out of deducing by you no one confused you for
00:26sherlock holmes there it's a little bit of a head scratcher but okay so uh this leads us to the
00:32topic that that took over the show in the middle of the show uh what do you consider a bigger
00:37reach
00:37at six right now monroe freeling or whomever the browns uh deem wide receiver one i would probably
00:46say well i mean i'm assuming wide receiver one is is carnell tate from ohio state so i would probably
00:53i i would say friedling why do you assume it's carnell tate uh because we've talked a lot about
00:58tyson available in their draft in my view oh show your work yeah just just i just like that grinding
01:05that tape come on what do we got here daryl go ahead no i i'm a big carnell tate fan
01:09and i'd love
01:10the browns to take him if uh they can get him why not jordan tyson and what's your objections to
01:15tyson
01:16um i'd take him too you can only take one though you'd be when you want carnell more than tyson
01:21for
01:22why i am um i am of the mindset right now when i look at this browns roster uh that
01:29they either way
01:33as long as they come out of the first round with a wide receiver and their left tackle they're in
01:39good
01:39shape but right now like they're basically running it back with this offense the skill groups which
01:48got you barely 16 and a half points per game last season which is just embarrassingly awful and yet
01:59they have done nothing to this point this offseason to make that side of the ball better so that tells
02:06me
02:06that they're obviously going to be focused on making those improvements through the draft and so
02:13they you know whether it's tate whether it's tyson i think that they need to probably use that number
02:21six pick on a receiver uh or uh you know i see i don't know that freeling is the best
02:30offensive tackle
02:31in this class and that's that's kind of where i struggle he's a natural left tackle it's not one
02:38of those andrew berry convert you from right tackle to left tackle specials that he loves but i i don't
02:44know that like he's the best tackle that's available for them uh in this class so it's interesting i mean
02:51on one hand in the first part of your answer there you said they haven't done anything at the skill
02:55playing position which is fair uh and then at the end there in the maybe the end of the middle
03:01or
03:01whatever you had said uh they haven't done anything the offense i think just in in solidifying the
03:07offensive line uh i do think they've done something so like i don't think the offensive line is
03:13dramatically better today than it was a year ago why not i just i'm saying dramatically better it's a
03:19little better but like i'm not going to sit here and think like that they have completely uh you
03:26know rebuilt this thing to where i have massive expectations that all of a sudden this offense
03:32is going to be able to do a bunch of stuff they couldn't do a year ago i well but
03:35i mean i think
03:36they actually have offensive line that might be able to stay healthy and i think that was the biggest
03:39problem is they couldn't have continuity last year the last couple years because all of their line
03:45had gotten old and injured everybody but tevin jenkins and uh elton jenkins that they brought on
03:50yeah are durability guys yeah i mean you hope so right they they they have been you hope they
03:58continue to be but uh and that's why i say they're better in that regard because they do have guys
04:04that
04:05are available to play but um they desperately need to fix this wide receiver room if you think
04:13you're going into next season with jerry judy isaiah bond and cedric tillman as your centerpieces to
04:22surround whether it's the sean watson or sanders and all of a sudden you know todd munkin's going
04:28to sprinkle the magic fairy dust on this thing with whatever offensive system he's going to put in
04:33place and they're just going to you know go gangbusters on that side of the ball i i'd like some
04:39of what
04:39you're drinking and smoking because i just don't think it's realistic to have those expectations
04:44and that's why i just feel like uh and even look even if they add a uh a number one
04:51receiver i don't
04:52know that necessarily that fixes all uh of the ales either but i mean this this you know just looking
05:01at where things currently stand right now it just it doesn't look any better to me than it did a
05:07year
05:07ago uh well let me ask about wide receiver because i agree with you they have to do some things
05:12in the
05:12wide receiver room and if they don't then they're they're kind of telling us something but are they
05:16going to do do you think there's more than just the draft at play here do you feel like we're
05:20going
05:20to be in on some of these other guys i know phelps keeps bringing up by you i bring up
05:23juwan
05:24jennings it feels like a decent amount like are any of these other guys deandre hopkins gets floated
05:28around like any of these other guys realistic uh options for the browns or are we just not going
05:33to go down that road do you feel well i i just i'm not interested in any problem children that
05:38that's
05:38number one they got enough issues they got to work work with you you don't need to be bringing people
05:44in that have issues so um you know and and i know andrew loves the second and third chance thing
05:52but like it just at some point okay can we just have no off the field nonsense here
05:57can we just have some guys that can play the sport and we don't have to worry about uh anything
06:02else uh with them uh when when you're really good then then you can have the luxury of having problem
06:08children but the browns continue to be terrible and so let let's not have let's not compound the
06:15issues well you know um so if you can have on the field issues then like at least you know
06:22have guys
06:22that can keep their noses clean uh that that's just kind of how i feel about it right now i
06:27i really
06:28think that you know andrew berry kind of was very honest uh you know i always joke about him lying
06:36to
06:36us about certain things but i do the one thing i don't think he lied about was the youth of
06:40the team
06:41and when you look at uh some of the younger teams in the league last year the jacksonvilles the
06:47philadelphia's green bay's you know those were playoff teams a year ago so he was right in the
06:54sense that just because you're young doesn't mean you're going to be bad the problem is typically
06:58when the browns are young they usually are bad but he had a very good draft class last year if
07:05he
07:05can replicate that this year with the five picks in the top 110 and have similar results i'm not saying
07:10he's got to go and have four starters i think three is you know a pretty good formula there
07:16with two uh contributing role players uh then you position yourself to really start getting this thing
07:23turned around but um i i really think that the focus is going to be filling in these holes that
07:30they
07:30have especially on the offensive side of the ball that's left tackle that's wide receiver that's
07:35you know tight end room you know maybe they add another running back to this mix again we'll see
07:41but like i really believe they're going to do that through the draft and barry is really intent on
07:48draft and development right now because remember it was him who without actually saying it said
07:55after they fired kevin stefanski that the development of young players was you know was you know behind
08:02one of the reasons they decided to move on from stefanski and then obviously they've uh you know
08:07brought in todd munkin who now seems very intent on developing young players so i think the draft is
08:14where barry's going to be looking to solve some of these problems rather than uh expending a lot of
08:19energy making splashes or moves that get everybody's attention and gets everybody excited
08:25on paper um i think that uh it's gotta you know it's gotta be uh if he does something like
08:32that
08:32it's going to be on his terms it's going to be a player that's going to be uh you know
08:37a deal for
08:38the browns to bring in type of a thing right it doesn't cost you a lot to bring him in
08:42maybe doesn't
08:43cost you a lot uh to to pay that player because i again i think that barry's focus is on
08:48he wants
08:49to start building a younger uh team and developing that younger team so that they can build the
08:56sustained success that they failed to build coming off of that one in 31 and four in 44 stretch
09:04daryl i'm looking at the uh our little internal uh bracket game that we're playing here i know you
09:11got the invite for it here and i'm scrolling here and i don't see daryl writer so i haven't i
09:17haven't filled one out yet all right or are we going to because i already have a debbie downer to
09:22my right here he's a debbie downer i i need you to be a debbie upper well you know what
09:27i'll do it
09:28tonight because i i'm in with ken tomorrow and i i don't have to get bullied into this yes no
09:33i you
09:33really don't it's no it's not that works jonathan i i knew i'd have to do it uh tonight before
09:39i go
09:39because i know i need one for yes tomorrow and friday no ken doesn't care ken's just gonna pick
09:44akron and say he doesn't care and say monroe freeling yeah he doesn't care uh no daryl my
09:51big gripe is what are we playing for here oh i guess what oh you mean the inner office thing
09:56i'm
09:56guessing it's just like bragging rights to say uh you're smarter than everyone you can be the you
10:02can be the salary cap bro of 92.3 the fan by winning doesn't do anything it doesn't do anything
10:07for me did you count the shamrocks i need some steaks yeah yeah no i did that's where part of
10:12the
10:12frustration part of the frustration came into play which by the way they actually had a gift card
10:18for it didn't and i know they had no idea thing i still play that one for free not knowing
10:22about
10:22the gift cards now can't play this one for free i'm out on doing things for free daryl when it
10:26comes
10:26to uh uh you know brackets and all this other stuff like give me you're a company okay $20 gift
10:32card's
10:32not hard here put some put something on the table why don't you buy it this year and start it
10:37and then
10:37see if somebody buys it next because it's a company that's not on me they're the ones that make all
10:41the
10:41money that's on them daryl there was a burger bet involved you'd do it i i think oh now we're
10:48talking burger bet between the three of us no march madness burger bet nope now you got me filling
10:56out forms no i don't uh i think i think daryl now you got me playing because if i if
11:01i continue to
11:02kick both of your asses and burger bets it's just further humiliation whereas if if if you pin each
11:09other against each other all of a sudden one of you actually has hope you know what we really
11:13should have done burger bets for fantasy football because i'd be eating free for a month yeah but
11:17you didn't see another thing we got to talk about we're raising the stakes for next fantasy football
11:21year i hope i hope you're on board with this i can't i can't be doing too many things i'm
11:26playing
11:26for zero stakes and it's just not doing it for me at this point in life i would there's i
11:31don't even
11:32need a lot i don't need a lot i think there's a number i just need a little 1-800
11:35gambling i think
11:36is something you're supposed to call daryl the idea that it's like oh for fun not enough for me
11:41that's not how i have fun well see that you you really are a debbie downer you sometimes you have
