00:00Previously on Project Runway Canada, for your first challenge, we want a high fashion, all denim look.
00:12Yes! Den-um?
00:14I'm just worried about having too much going on everywhere.
00:17Me too.
00:17Which one's giving you high fashion?
00:19It hasn't been drawn yet.
00:21Where is all this self-doubt coming from?
00:24Rome, Littlefeather, Kat, Dalarumi, Delaine, and...
00:30Charles.
00:31You can leave the runway.
00:32I thought for sure you were going to be on top.
00:34I don't want to be safe. I want to win.
00:37The details are amazing.
00:38The corset is perfection.
00:40It made me giddy. Congratulations, Leland.
00:43Yeah!
00:44Naimo and Naomi, you're all denim distressed us.
00:48Naomi, you are out.
00:50At stake for the winner, from TD, a career-launching investment of $100,000 and a feature in Elle Canada magazine.
01:00With global supermodel Coco Rocha.
01:03Fashion designer, Spencer Badu.
01:05Creative director, Aurora James.
01:08And legendary fashion journalist, Jeanne Beckert.
01:12This is Project Runway Canada.
01:14Watch me do my thing.
01:20This is absolutely stunning.
01:21Wow.
01:22Last week, I thought I would be in the top three.
01:23It really shook me.
01:24I'm not going to lie.
01:25This doesn't feel real.
01:26Oh, I know.
01:27This competition is very intense because everyone really wants it.
01:42My biggest fear was going home first, but it was really validating to be in the top, and I would love to keep that going.
01:49It's like a fairytale.
01:50Yes, I'm really.
01:51This is so pretty.
01:52Oh!
01:53Oh!
01:54Oh!
01:55Oh!
01:56Oh!
01:57Yay!
01:58Yay!
01:59Yay!
02:00Bonjour, designers.
02:01Bonjour!
02:02Strong.
02:03Commanding.
02:05Majestic.
02:06These three words describe where we are standing today, here at the legendary Casa Loma.
02:12But they also perfectly embody something more powerful.
02:16The women celebrated each year at Le Défilé L'Oréal Paris during Paris Fashion Week as they walk their worth, a showcase of sisterhood and empowerment where women from all backgrounds walk their worth down the runway.
02:30Amazing.
02:31Which will serve as the inspiration for your very first real client challenge.
02:37Woo!
02:38Oh, my God.
02:40It's a client challenge.
02:42Hoping my client likes something flowy.
02:45Well, who knows?
02:46Client work is a really tricky balancing act, but I am so excited.
02:49A lot of my work is client-based.
02:51I'm pairing you up with L'Oréal Paris content creator partners who are all making a splash in the beauty and fashion world.
02:58You'll design a glamorous evening wear look that will help them feel worth it as they strut the runway.
03:04I shine in women's wear, so I feel like I just won the lottery.
03:08Just to shake things up, you'll have to work within the L'Oréal Paris color palette.
03:13Gold, red, black, and white.
03:16You won't meet your clients till tomorrow, but for now, you get to know all about them and their personal style by scrolling their social.
03:23Ooh!
03:24Come on!
03:25This is a two-day challenge.
03:26Oh!
03:27You have 30 minutes to sketch your design ideas before meeting Aurora at the fabric store.
03:32Ooh!
03:33All the best, everyone!
03:34Au revoir!
03:35Au revoir!
03:36Thank you!
03:39I am nervous.
03:41I've done maybe one gown-ish before.
03:45This is gonna be a challenge, but let's try to make it to the top.
03:49My client, Jacqueline, she's kind of a tomboy, but she's coming to me for, like, a luxury gown.
03:58So I'm really gonna have to think about trying to make my client happy.
04:02I'm scrolling through Tanisha's profile. I'm automatically drawn to her.
04:06Tanisha loves clean lines, movement. She likes to present herself in sort of effortless but classic way.
04:14So I'm thinking about making a white eyelet corset dress.
04:18It's so unexpected to make cotton billow in this way and juxtapose it with liquid black jersey.
04:24To make something that's casual seem elegant, it's a gamble, and you have to understand material in order to deliver.
04:31My client, Tara, we have a very similar style. A little sexy and mysterious. I love to dress the inner vixen.
04:38I have been using houndstooth since I started designing. I've sketched out a full houndstooth cascade sleeve deep V bold dress.
04:47I'm actually very excited about this challenge. This is where I think I'm gonna thrive.
04:51That's awesome.
04:52Yeah.
04:56Wow.
04:59Welcome, designers.
05:00Hi.
05:01You're gonna have 30 minutes and $600 to bring your visions to life.
05:08What are you waiting for? Go.
05:10Okay, I'm trying to find a motif. Fortunately for me this week, my client Roshna's aesthetic lines up with mine almost perfectly.
05:24She's minimalist, luxe, she's sophisticated. And those are words that I would use to also define my brand.
05:30So I'm making a two-piece evening wear look. It's a strapless bodice with draping at the front, and then at the bottom, a pencil skirt.
05:39Just make sure it feels elegant. Make sure it feels foster. And I have to say, don't change who you are just because of what happened last week.
05:49Being in the bottom in the denim challenge was really tough. I thought that was the end.
05:54This week, I'm going to show the judges that my look really represents me as a designer.
05:59I think I found something.
06:00I know.
06:01All right, where's the cutter?
06:02This is a workout.
06:04Bella, make sure they don't go over budget, okay? Only $600, not a penny more.
06:12I know, it's hard.
06:14I want to be careful about my goals.
06:15Watch out.
06:16Because I want to make sure it's cohesive together and it reads gold.
06:20I got the amazing Eliza. She's girly, chic, effortless, and timeless. And lo and behold, one of her favorite silhouettes is the hourglass.
06:27So for this challenge, I'm trying to play with some feminine shapes.
06:30I'm doing a fitted black bodice and a large, poofy taffeta skirt and add some gold accents as well.
06:36I'm also looking for gold, so watch out, girl.
06:39It's the only two shades of brown you have in mesh.
06:42I have Stephanie as my client. She really wants to highlight a curve. So I'm making nude color corset, a fitted dress with feathers, and white fabrics. I have this great vision, but I don't know if it's gonna match her skin because I didn't match her yet.
07:01Remember our colors, guys. It's red, gold, black, and white. Some of you are choosing some weird things.
07:10Oh, this one looks a little dressy enough.
07:12I'm excited. My designs could be interpreted as evening wear, and I feel like I can do pretty well in this challenge. But my client loves linen and a simple A-line silhouette. It's gonna be a little bit tricky to make linen, you know, dressy.
07:29Hopefully this shimmery linen, I think it's gonna work. It has a little bit of glimmer to it. It's a client challenge, but I gotta find a way to make the client happy.
07:38I think this would do.
07:41Little Feather, how are we looking?
07:43Great. Perfect. I'm under budget.
07:45Keep shopping, girl.
07:46I'm trying.
07:47What if you change your mind?
07:48Okay, okay, okay.
07:50Ten minutes. Time to get cutting.
07:54Do we have this one in black?
07:55I'm still not 100% sure what I'm doing.
07:57Like, I can see it in my head, but finding the right fabric is important because it is a make or break of my garment. Choosing the wrong fabric will land me in the bottom.
08:07I'm gonna be making something more structured, so satin is a good option.
08:12Oh, here it is. I think I found it.
08:14Oh, that's similar, but not quite.
08:17Looking around the store, I do see a section of houndstooth, but it's a tweed, which is very, very different from the knit that I'm looking for.
08:23I'm not giving up on my houndstooth idea. I have to use it because it's my brown staple.
08:27But then I notice this really shiny black sequin, so I'm gonna try to mix it with the houndstooth print, which is really risky, but I think it'll pay off.
08:36I am definitely gonna use it as my base.
08:38We shifted a little bit, but I am happy with what I have.
08:42Two minutes left.
08:44Oh, my God.
08:45Oh, yes. Okay.
08:46Thank you so much.
08:49I'm done.
08:51Time is up.
08:53I will see you back at the workroom.
09:01And we're back at it.
09:03Oh, hello, workroom.
09:06Let's do it.
09:09Who'd you get?
09:10I got Nate.
09:11Okay.
09:12So I'm excited to meet them.
09:13In one of Nate's photos, she had this beautiful lace-up leather bag, so I really wanted to tap into that.
09:19For this client challenge, I'm gonna be making this really cool red lace-up velvet bodice gown with a matte satin skirt.
09:27I want to push my skill set, but also I won the first challenge, and I'm low-key expecting to win maybe every challenge.
09:35The fact that you're stitching already.
09:37Girl, my gown's gonna be done by tonight.
09:39Okay, let's go.
09:43Sweating here.
09:50Hey, designers!
09:52Hello!
09:53I'm very excited to see what you guys come up with.
10:01Hello.
10:02Hey, Maya.
10:03You were in the top last week.
10:05It's true.
10:06Do you feel that this look can get you a win?
10:09I hope so.
10:10I feel it's very me.
10:12I'm looking around, and everyone's doing long, so it could be a worthy risk.
10:17My client, Gemma, loves mini dresses, so I want to give that to her.
10:20So I'm making a black silk mini dress and a pillbox hat.
10:25I can execute it well.
10:26Okay, that's elegant.
10:27And I obviously picked this really gorgeous fabric.
10:30I'm excited to see this come to life. I think it's really cool.
10:35Tell me what's going on here.
10:37My client likes asymmetrical, so I'm doing an asymmetrical top.
10:42And an illusion of pants, but it's gonna be a skirt.
10:47Okay, here we have, like, a lot of applique, a lot of this going on.
10:51And I just want to make sure that your design skills are still able to shine through.
10:58Right.
11:00Ah!
11:01I was a little worried about you in the fabric store because it was evening wear, and I wasn't sure how comfortable you are with evening wear.
11:10Yeah, I'm not very comfortable with evening wear.
11:12You're not?
11:13No.
11:14She likes a simple, timeless look.
11:17The disdain in your face.
11:19Yeah.
11:20Simple, timeless.
11:21That's so timeless.
11:22I'm just trying to play around in my head to see how is it that I can actually pull this out.
11:26My client, she also likes a bit of an edge, which is good for me because my brand, Viago, has a lot of edge to it.
11:33So I'm going to create an evening gown with a sweetheart-line bustier and a pleated mermaid skirt.
11:39And I think the judges will be impressed.
11:41And I have to say, I'm loving this fabric choice.
11:44It feels elegant.
11:46It feels like the brief.
11:47Yes.
11:48Okay.
11:52What's here?
11:53Is this a hood again?
11:55Yes.
11:56Who's your content creator?
11:57Uh, Emily.
11:58She likes to accentuate her tiny waist.
12:01I noticed she wears a deep red nail polish.
12:04So I'm creating a red corset top with a pleated ball gown skirt.
12:09I am worried about doing another hood.
12:11It makes me think that maybe I should pivot.
12:14So I don't want to do the exact same thing.
12:16Maybe I could do just a collar this time.
12:18But we also have to make sure that we, like, nail the assignment because they really don't want to see you in the bottom.
12:23Yeah.
12:24We want to be on the top.
12:25I'm hoping she likes my plan.
12:29Ow.
12:32You feeling okay after last week?
12:34Um, I'm not going to lie. I was a little bit down, but I have to rise beyond this.
12:39So that's what I'm doing.
12:41My client, she loves, like, linen, but it's kind of hard to make linen dressy.
12:46Very hard to make linen glamorous evening wear.
12:48But I did find...
12:49I know, but I did find a linen that looks...
12:52Let's see. I gotta see it to believe it.
12:54I gotta see it to believe it.
12:55Look at the shimmer, right?
12:56Because it's linen.
12:57Yes.
12:58I just want to make sure we don't let it, like, a crinkle wrinkle ball.
13:01No, I'm hoping it's not. I'm going to iron the hell out of it.
13:04Okay.
13:05I'm making a white linen dress with a deep V front, deep V in the back, with a red cape over it.
13:12So that I'm kind of incorporating, you know, the Somalian dita. It's not something that you always see.
13:16Okay.
13:17Well, when I think of a red cape, I think of Little Red Riding Hood.
13:20So we just have to make sure it doesn't look like that.
13:22It won't.
13:23And it's, like, looking really glamorous evening wear.
13:25This week is about showing them what we got. We need to be confident.
13:30I never would have guessed from your denim look that you would have reached for, like, a houndstooth and a sequin for this.
13:39I use houndstooth a lot. I love it so much. This is a classic.
13:42I'm pretty confident in this look, I think.
13:44You should be.
13:45The challenge is all about women empowerment, and that's exactly what I strive for.
13:49I design for the unapologetic woman because I was sexually abused when I was in my early 20s.
13:56And it wasn't until later I was like, I wish I would have done something about it.
13:59Now I don't hold anything back, and I put that into my designs.
14:02I'm gonna wear what I want, and I don't care what you say about it.
14:05I just like to say a big you to everybody that's hurt me.
14:08I feel confident, and I can inspire others to do the same.
14:12Nobody's gonna stop me.
14:14Designers, just remember, this is a client challenge.
14:18You have to be ready to pivot if necessary, okay?
14:21I'll see you tomorrow.
14:22Thanks.
14:23Bye.
14:24Bye.
14:25Bye.
14:26I'm looking at my brown corset.
14:31I don't know if the shade's gonna fit my client's skin color.
14:40I'm questioning myself.
14:41I bought two shades of brown because I didn't know, like, what exact shade she was.
14:45Yeah.
14:46So I don't know.
14:47But there is no time for me to make another dress.
14:50I just need to wait.
14:52I'm really scared.
15:01Guys, ten minutes left.
15:03That was fast.
15:05My fingers literally hurt so much.
15:10Whew.
15:11Okay.
15:13I was trying to pull a miracle.
15:24I'm ready to get started.
15:27Let's get it.
15:28This challenge is a client challenge, and we have to work with a very specific color palette.
15:33So Kat's look is weird.
15:37I have no idea what she's making.
15:41I am trying not to overthink.
15:44So just, like, focus.
15:50Kat, can you do it on the floor?
15:52It's just so early.
15:56That's so much better.
15:58Not for me.
15:59Thanks.
16:00In this competition, every second counts.
16:03But it's hard to keep pushing forward with design choices when we haven't consulted our clients first.
16:10Everyone's nervous about their clients.
16:13Yeah.
16:14In the real world, clients know who they're coming to.
16:17If she doesn't like this, I hope she's gonna be like, I just want a tube top.
16:22I'm trying not to freak out, because if you get a great client, they understand what you're all about.
16:34But that's not guaranteed.
16:38Hey, designers.
16:39Hey.
16:40Hey.
16:41Guess what?
16:43Your clients are here.
16:45Oh.
16:46Hey.
16:47Hey, hey.
16:48Hi.
16:50Tanisha.
16:51Wait, this is so cool.
16:52How are you, Tanisha?
16:53Hello.
16:54Nice to meet you.
16:55Tara comes in, and she just looks so chic.
16:58I made you something very Vixen-y.
17:00Ooh.
17:01Oh.
17:02This is your look.
17:03Okay.
17:04I wanted to have something unexpected.
17:05Okay.
17:06So I wanted to work with cotton.
17:08Okay.
17:09And make it feel like a dress shirt.
17:10Gotcha.
17:11So this is the top piece.
17:12You're giving me one shoulder?
17:14Yeah.
17:15Girl.
17:16If I have time, I wanted to do, like, a pene with these.
17:19What's a pene?
17:20It's just, like, basically, like, hips.
17:22Oh, you're giving me body.
17:24Yeah.
17:25Okay.
17:26I'm down for that.
17:28Are you breathing?
17:30I think so.
17:31I look like a little white whitey hood.
17:35But sophisticated.
17:36Once you're on the runway, you're moving.
17:38Love that.
17:39Love that.
17:40I kind of like it, actually, short with the train.
17:42Okay, great.
17:43I'm really glad to hear that.
17:44I'm very relieved that Gemma loves the look.
17:48Yeah.
17:49It's looking really nice.
17:50It is pretty late in the game to pivot.
17:52Let's talk about one thing.
17:54Okay.
17:55So this was supposed to be a nude illusion moment.
17:59Yeah.
18:00And it's not really giving nude right now.
18:03Yeah.
18:04The brown is darker than my skin tone.
18:07I'm just, like, not seeing the vision here.
18:10The white things?
18:11Yeah.
18:12The brief was black, white, red, gold.
18:15I'm forgetting that there's a challenge and there's rules.
18:18So what are we gonna do?
18:19We need a plan.
18:21I need to think.
18:22Let me think.
18:25Is this your style of dress?
18:26Yeah.
18:27I love it.
18:28You love the fit.
18:29Do you like the dress?
18:30Yes.
18:31Yes, I do.
18:32Okay.
18:33I do.
18:34I feel like you have a little vixen in you, too.
18:35Girl, you know it.
18:36Yeah.
18:37You really like it.
18:38It's giving angel.
18:39Modern angel.
18:40You look amazing.
18:41You look amazing.
18:42I do evening wear.
18:43And this is my chance to prove to the judges that I deserve to be here.
18:47I do like the drama of it.
18:48Yeah.
18:49And then you'll have to, like, whip it around at the end of the runway.
18:52Yeah.
18:53Yeah.
18:54How are you feeling about the linen?
18:55I heard linen was one of your favorite fabrics.
18:57Yeah.
18:58I'm feeling really good about it.
18:59I'm just really excited to see this all come together, honestly.
19:02Does it feel like you?
19:03Is it something that you would normally wear?
19:04For sure.
19:05Yeah.
19:06Yeah.
19:07How about the cape?
19:08The cape is coming together.
19:11Do you like the cape?
19:12I've just never, I feel like I've never tried anything like this.
19:16But I'm very open, so.
19:17Okay.
19:18So it's not you, but you're willing to step out of your comfort zone.
19:20Oh, for sure.
19:21Yeah.
19:22Yeah.
19:23Let me just do a couple little safety pins before you're out of here.
19:25Really bring that in.
19:27Is this your style?
19:28One shoulder is very me.
19:29I love it when it feels kind of sporty.
19:31I just love being in a one shoulder.
19:32Yes.
19:33I just am afraid that if we add more volume, that I'm going to look like a little cupcake.
19:37At the end of the day, it's about keeping the client happy, and I have to deliver.
19:46Wait, this top?
19:47What's going on here?
19:48It's different.
19:49Yeah.
19:50Now that I see these different shapes, I'm like, yeah, I love them.
19:54Do we have enough time to switch to that type of neck?
19:57She wanted asymmetrical, and now she wants symmetrical.
20:02We can do that.
20:03You think?
20:04I want to make you happy.
20:06All right, designers, that's time.
20:09Say goodbye to your clients.
20:11See you.
20:12See you tomorrow.
20:13See you later.
20:15You have two hours and 45 minutes left in the workroom tonight.
20:22You're going to need to get to work.
20:24I want to see lots of glamour tomorrow.
20:26Get cracking.
20:29I'm stressed.
20:32I decided to redo the whole thing.
20:35Every single thing?
20:36It's going to be, like, all white gown instead.
20:39If I'm not finishing this corset before the day ends, I'm not going to have a dress ready for tomorrow's runway.
20:45Fifteen minutes.
20:46Let's get it together.
20:47I am a little annoyed with myself for, you know, offering so many options.
21:00I don't have enough liquid gold fabric, so I have to use the shiny fabric to create exactly what the client wants.
21:10If she doesn't like the new top, I am .
21:11If she doesn't like the new top, I am .
21:12If she doesn't like the new top, I am .
21:17Morning.
21:18Morning.
21:19Let's do it.
21:20Let's do it.
21:21Let's do it.
21:22It's runaway day today, and everybody's super happy of their looks around me, but I do not have a dress.
21:31You're not using the brown or gold anymore?
21:34No.
21:35I would just want the base to be done and hope to have enough time to drape the fabric well, to do a skirt.
21:41What about you?
21:42I'm putting on my zippers.
21:44The cape is done, so I'm actually doing really good this time.
21:47Oh, I love the cape.
21:49It's beautiful.
21:50It puts the look that I had in my mind together.
21:53The color, the flow, the beauty.
21:56Hi, everyone.
21:57Hi.
21:58I'm back, and I brought your clients.
22:01Hey.
22:02Hey.
22:03How are you?
22:05It's coming together.
22:07Yes.
22:08Oh, it's so pretty.
22:09Yeah.
22:10I was very indecisive of the direction I wanted to go, but I'm feeling very confident.
22:15It looks great.
22:16I feel so good.
22:17I feel like the adjustments we made made such a difference in the best way.
22:21So this is staying up how?
22:23Um, there's gonna be a tie around.
22:26Okay.
22:27At the top.
22:28Corset's gonna be right here.
22:30You're gonna be able to do a corset in two and a half hours?
22:34I believe.
22:35I think we can do it.
22:36Yeah.
22:37Yeah.
22:38Yeah.
22:39We could do it.
22:40You look so good.
22:41Gorgeous.
22:42Oh, my God.
22:43It literally is with the color.
22:44I'm so happy to see this color palette.
22:46Yes, me too.
22:47How are you feeling?
22:48I'm upset.
22:49Okay.
22:50Your whole energy has changed.
22:52How does that feel?
22:54I don't like it.
22:56Ugh.
22:57Ugh.
22:58The client's not very happy with the cape.
23:03It looks like something my mom would wear.
23:06Unfortunately, we have to make the linen dress the focus.
23:10My heart is aching.
23:13Without the cape, it won't look, it won't give it the, you know, ooh moment.
23:19All that you can do as a designer right now is do your best to make a dress that is wonderful
23:27and that she looks great in.
23:29Hopefully, it's enough.
23:31I'm just, I'm nervous.
23:34Designers, when you're ready, bring your clients over to the L'Oreal Paris Glam Room.
23:44Grace and elegance.
23:46It's extravagant.
23:48She's got the face, so it needs to be showing up.
23:50Yeah.
23:51The look we're going for is power.
23:53We want her to look elegant, sparkly.
23:56Well, I have the perfect product.
23:58We're going to use Lumi Glotion for this multi-dimensional radiance.
24:03That's really going to make her glow.
24:05Ooh.
24:06Look at that.
24:07Wow.
24:08I would like some too.
24:09Yeah.
24:1015 minutes left.
24:13Whew.
24:14I feel like I achieved my vision, but I'm a little worried.
24:17I'm looking around and I see corsets and volume and just amazing technical skill.
24:24If I never see another grommet again, you guys, I will be happy.
24:27All right, let's get our clients to the runway.
24:34You've got this.
24:35Take the deepest breath.
24:36You've taken all day.
24:37Foster, what am I seeing here?
24:39We're going to fix that.
24:40Time to wrap it up.
24:42Oh, .
24:43I just need to undo this.
24:45I'm not sure if the straps were holding.
24:48I'm just hoping for the best.
24:50I think that's all I can do now.
24:52All right, everyone.
24:53Time to hit the runway.
24:54Let's do this.
24:56Woo!
24:57Woo!
25:06Ooh.
25:07Ooh.
25:08Ooh.
25:09Cool.
25:14Hi, designers.
25:15Hey, Colette.
25:16Welcome back to The Runway.
25:17This week, your challenge was to create
25:20a glamorous evening wear look that would inspire your client
25:23to walk their worth on the runway.
25:25But tonight, you'll also be proving your own worth.
25:30Because while confidence never goes out of style,
25:33in this competition, sometimes you're in,
25:36and sometimes you're out.
25:39Say hello to your judges.
25:41Fashion designer, Spencer Badu.
25:43Hey, designers.
25:46Fashion journalist, Jeannie Becker.
25:48Hi, everybody.
25:50And meet the creative visionary behind
25:53the luxury women's wear brand, Greta Constantine.
25:56My dear friend, Kirk Bickersgill.
26:00Hello, designer.
26:01Hi.
26:02I love Greta Constantine.
26:04Kirk is just an amazing designer.
26:07We'll be scoring your designs as they come down the runway.
26:10Let's get this show started.
26:16I love that.
26:17I am super proud of what I'm seeing on the runway right now,
26:20because it's something that I'm not used to making.
26:24And it turned out exactly how I envisioned it.
26:28Yes.
26:29I'm trying to surprise them with something new.
26:32All the time.
26:34I feel like my design is really well executed.
26:43The piping of the bustier, it pops with the houndstooth,
26:46and the deep V brings that extra drama that I wanted.
26:49Yeah.
26:50That fit is amazing.
26:52This challenge was to be bold and empowering,
26:55and this dress just gives that.
26:59Buster.
26:59Buster.
27:00Ooh, okay.
27:01I'm so proud of this garment.
27:04I feel I really show the judges who I am.
27:06It looks minimal, elegant,
27:09and like everything the client wanted.
27:11It's expensive.
27:13This week was just a reintroduction of myself.
27:16My design is completely opposite of the expectations
27:24you have for an evening look,
27:26and I think Gemma is absolutely selling it.
27:28Ooh, the trend is perfect.
27:30It feels modern and fun.
27:32I think the hat and the gloves brings it all together
27:35and completes the story.
27:39God damn it, she was good.
27:41I'm super pleased.
27:43Yes, there's flaws,
27:44but I feel that I really show
27:47what I can do under pressure.
27:49Yes, girl.
27:51The most important part is the client is obsessed.
27:57In anything I design,
27:59I want my models to always feel beautiful,
28:01so my heart is sinking.
28:03I'm seeing wrinkles.
28:06She looks very uncomfortable and uncertain,
28:09and I'm really regretting doing a simple A-line
28:13because without the cape, it's boring.
28:19Oh, wow.
28:20Yes.
28:21Mother.
28:22She looks incredible.
28:26Wow.
28:27This red velvet lace-up bodice corset is so good.
28:32Whoever did it, it's fabulous.
28:35Chef's kiss.
28:38Okay, little feather.
28:40Jacqueline looks happy.
28:42She looks confident,
28:44so I feel like I delivered.
28:47I do see the judges smiling,
28:50so that's a good sign.
28:58Wow.
28:59I really love the silhouette
29:01that I went for with this look.
29:02The way that I played with volume and proportion
29:04was really interesting.
29:06Yes.
29:07Take it all in.
29:09I love the bow shrug.
29:14Ooh.
29:16Oh, wow.
29:18I really wanted to show sharp tailoring
29:20and what I can do with cotton fabric.
29:23It's architectural without being too stiff.
29:25So many beautiful details.
29:27And this is a true reflection of who I am.
29:30Well done, Charles.
29:32I think I deserve to be in the top this week.
29:36Wow.
29:38Watching Emily walk down the runway,
29:40she looks strong, she looks confident.
29:43She's nailing it.
29:44The neckline is so beautiful.
29:46I want to show the judges that I'm capable
29:49of a high fashion evening wear look with drama,
29:52but also as my client's wishes.
29:56Yes.
29:58Designers, please step up to the runway.
30:01We saw some really strong evening wear looks tonight.
30:08But as you know, only one of you can be the winner,
30:13and one of you will be out.
30:15When I call your name, please step forward.
30:20Namo.
30:22Charles.
30:26Charles.
30:30Little Feather.
30:34Delaine.
30:38Cat.
30:42Roam.
30:46If I did not call your name,
30:49you're in and you can leave the runway.
30:51Congrats.
30:54Look at your breathe.
30:55That was stressful.
30:57This is how it feels like being back here.
30:59We missed out last time.
31:02Let's start with one of our strongest looks of the night.
31:05Rome.
31:06That was definitely runway worthy.
31:09She was worth it, and that dress was worth it.
31:11It was beautiful.
31:14My influencer wanted something that is very minimal
31:18with a bit of edge to it.
31:19For me, I do pleats a lot.
31:21And so I decided to make my version of a little black dress.
31:26I thought it was a wonderful symphony of ruffles.
31:29I really appreciated the artful vibe.
31:32I'm a sucker for ruffles, and you ruffled my feathers tonight.
31:37It was fabulous.
31:38I think it brought out a bit of edge to the dress.
31:41My only call-out would have been the back.
31:43You see this black dress, and then at the back,
31:45you just have this, like, gold lacing.
31:47I think maybe just sticking to all black
31:48would have been just, like, a nice way
31:49to have that little black dress.
31:53Now let's talk about one of our least favorite looks
31:56of the night.
31:57Cat.
31:59Cat.
32:01It was almost there.
32:03It had this sort of raw, deconstructed look,
32:06but I think it actually was raw and deconstructed.
32:09I wanted to do a corset, nude top that was matching
32:13her skin tone, but it was not working with the client.
32:17So I decided to scratch everything,
32:19and we do just an all-white version.
32:23You're going to make changes as they're
32:24coming to you as a client.
32:25It's just the construction didn't work out, and it showed.
32:29Well, I thought it was admirable that you pivoted,
32:31and I have to kind of disagree.
32:33I liked the look.
32:35I thought the feathers, even though maybe they
32:37were a little sparse, for me, it added a touch of whimsy.
32:42It was very pretty.
32:43There may have been some shortcomings in the dress,
32:45but overall, I thought it was really aesthetically pleasing.
32:49Time to chat about another one of our favorite looks.
32:51Delaine.
32:52I think it really suited your client.
32:54She is petite, but I think you really elongated her silhouette.
32:58Because she has a small frame, I wanted
33:00her to have a bit of structure.
33:02One of her profile pictures, she had a little interesting
33:04bustier sort of detail, so I really played up on that.
33:07I can see that you like to use houndstooth.
33:09And I kind of wanted to match her a little bit.
33:13That's part of your branding, and I think that's very important.
33:15I really wanted to use that for the detail of the bust piping
33:19and the structured cascade sleeve, so that you can see a little pop
33:23when she walked.
33:24What you had going on around the bust line,
33:27really interesting detailing.
33:28I thought it was very well made.
33:31Something about sequins and houndstooth,
33:33I would never think of those two things together.
33:35But for some reason, it just worked.
33:37Well, job well done.
33:38Thank you very much.
33:40This next look received one of the lowest scores, Little Feather.
33:46For me, I love the glitz.
33:48It was one of the looks that I think
33:50had maybe the most bling on it.
33:52But there was something that wasn't
33:54cohesive about the top and the bottom.
33:57There was a lot going on, you know,
33:59veering on the kind of a Vegas showgirl on a ride.
34:05My look was actually a challenge,
34:08because I had created a top, which is what I thought she wanted.
34:12And then when she came, she asked for a completely different look.
34:16Working in this industry, you're gonna have to, like, stand your ground.
34:19Sometimes you're gonna look at a client and say,
34:21you know what, that doesn't really mess with what I do.
34:24But I'm gonna listen to you, work with you.
34:25We're gonna create something spectacular.
34:29The next look is one of our favorites.
34:32Charles, you gave us Front Row L'Oreal Paris Fashion Week.
34:37I thought it was a gorgeous look.
34:39I deal with clients quite a bit.
34:41And she mentioned things like a white shirt and corsetry.
34:46And I tried to put those together and reinterpret that.
34:50This is the perfect example of what we're talking about.
34:54You stop for a second, you pay attention,
34:57and then even get literal things,
34:58like literally a white button-down shirt.
35:01I love the juxtaposition of the eyelet lace and something so unexpected.
35:06It certainly made a statement, and it was totally original.
35:09I think the sleeves, the way they just kind of cascaded down the runway,
35:13they were beautiful.
35:14Congrats. Was really happy with it.
35:17And the final look of the night,
35:19which received one of the lowest scores, Namo.
35:23I was expecting you to push your own boundaries
35:26a little bit more this week.
35:27She did say she wanted a simple, clean A-line.
35:30And so I went with a white-based dress,
35:33and I made a red cape to sort of incorporate my cultural wear.
35:37But the client didn't want to wear that one,
35:39so we were left with just a white linen dress.
35:42That breaks your heart.
35:43She worked so hard on that cape.
35:45Yeah.
35:46There wasn't enough of a wow factor about the dress overall
35:50due to the fabric that was chosen.
35:53That crease on the linen dress.
35:55I know.
35:56It's like the nightmare of nightmares I know for designers.
35:59Linen on a runway.
36:01Not your best friend.
36:02It sounded like you catered too much to your client.
36:07And you're talking about, you know, your culture.
36:09You should have shown more of that.
36:10She's wearing you, too.
36:11You know, it's a two-way street.
36:13You did mention that they wanted something A-line.
36:16For me, the bottom half of the dress didn't feel A-line.
36:19I don't think the fit was flattering to the client.
36:23Thank you, designers.
36:25We have some decisions to make so you can leave the runway.
36:29Thanks.
36:30Congratulations.
36:31Thanks.
36:32Good job, everybody.
36:33Good job, Rome.
36:35We're so proud of you.
36:36Yeah.
36:37It was incredible.
36:38This is a tough one.
36:41All right.
36:42Who do we think should be our winner this week?
36:44Three very distinctive looks, all with a very specific point of view.
36:50Love the theatricality of what Charles did and the originality.
36:54Charles is really a craftsman.
36:56I love the little peplum on the side, the lacing on the sleeve, the ruching.
37:01I love that he got a little bit of what she wanted.
37:04There was something really special.
37:06Just a beautiful dress.
37:07And then you've got Rome.
37:09That's just a classic, fabulous little black dress.
37:13He has five stars for me.
37:15It was unique.
37:16It was fresh.
37:17The length was amazing.
37:18I liked the playfulness of it all.
37:19And there was also something about Delaine.
37:22I've seen everything.
37:23It was just different enough that it made me smile.
37:25Honestly, this was one of my favorite looks.
37:27I think a sparkly fabric in combination with a hound suit.
37:31Two fabrics like that aren't supposed to work.
37:33But for some reason, it was perfect.
37:35I thought the sleeves were beautiful.
37:37I thought the detailing on the bust was great.
37:40Now, who should we be sending home?
37:42Really a tough one for me.
37:44It sounded like they had some hard clients and hard communication.
37:48Didn't understand what they were saying to them.
37:50Or didn't listen.
37:51I know I'm the odd man out here, but I really didn't think Kat's look was bad at all.
37:59I haven't seen feathers done that delicately before.
38:03Maybe there's a reason we haven't seen feathers done that way.
38:07Tell me, designers, have you ever done a swatch of somebody without ever seeing them in real life and got it?
38:15You have to know the skin tone of your client.
38:17Well, it was naive.
38:18Super naive.
38:19All right.
38:20Little feather.
38:21I did appreciate the fact that she did gold on gold.
38:25But then I found the mix of the shiny fabrics a bit off-putting.
38:28Me too.
38:29The top part didn't mess with the bottom part.
38:32The look was a little too exuberant.
38:35You know, verged on costume.
38:37It was definitely a case of the dress wearing the client.
38:42Let's talk about Nemo.
38:44The fabric was wrinkled and just the length of the dress was very awkward.
38:50I was really disappointed.
38:51I was just hoping for something.
38:53Something more.
38:54Something was missing and I would have loved to see that cape.
38:57No matter what though, at the end of the day, it still needs to be a beautiful dress on the runway.
39:03So we've come to a decision?
39:04Maybe, yes.
39:05Charles, Delaine, and Rome.
39:18Your clients didn't just walk.
39:21They arrived.
39:22But there can only be one winner.
39:25The winner of this challenge is...
39:27Delaine.
39:32Wow.
39:33That's amazing.
39:34Congratulations.
39:36L'Oreal Paris sees your worth and is rewarding you with $5,000 cash.
39:49My makeup, guys.
39:51This means so much to me.
39:54It's incredibly validating.
39:57My design was all about empowerment and I was like, I'm going to take this home and that's exactly what I did.
40:03I'm just from a small town.
40:04I grew up on a farm and now I'm here.
40:07This is so incredible.
40:09So, thank you so much.
40:11Charles and Rome, you're also in.
40:14The three of you can leave the runway.
40:17Thank you, guys.
40:18Good luck, okay?
40:19Y'all.
40:20Thank you, guys.
40:21Thank you, guys.
40:22Thank you, guys.
40:23You deserve it so much.
40:24Oh, well done, though.
40:25Kat.
40:26Littlefeather.
40:27And Namo.
40:28Tonight, your designs lack the confidence to command the runway.
40:43Kat.
40:45You are in.
40:46You can leave the runway.
40:47Thanks.
40:48And I'll do better next time, I promise.
40:55Littlefeather.
40:57And Namo.
40:58Your designs were not it.
41:09But we believe you're worth it.
41:12You're both still in.
41:14Oh!
41:17Sorry?
41:18We're giving you a second chance because we believe in your talents.
41:22However, I'm begging you to really step it up next week.
41:26Because someone will be going home.
41:29You can both leave the runway.
41:30Thank you so much.
41:31Oh, my God!
41:33Oh, my God!
41:34This is a huge second chance, and it's not something that I can afford to waste.
41:43They believe that we're worth it.
41:45Yes!
41:46Yes!
41:47I thought I was going home.
41:49So I'm super excited.
41:50I'm an amazing designer.
41:52I cannot doubt myself again.
41:58I'm so happy that you all are still here.
42:00Every single one of you guys deserves to be here.
42:02But that's something that each of you are going to have to continue to prove week by week by week.
42:08It's not going to get any easier.
42:10It is only going to get harder.
42:14Next time on Project Runway Canada, welcome to your avant-garde challenge.
42:20This week, you're working in teams.
42:24I don't like teams.
42:25Curtis's yellow dress does stand out.
42:28I don't know that this spiral is going to work.
42:30I just feel out of my realm.
42:32Have you guys talked about your looks together at all?
42:35Your model wasn't able to continue wearing your design.
42:39So they won't be coming out.
42:40Oh.
42:41My.
42:42Gosh.
