02:07Many iconic Canadian designers have created works of art for the Cashmere Collection
02:13And this week, you will follow in their footsteps

07:57So I'm going to have to really focus on surface design

24:38To really convey a full concept of this toy doll idea
24:43And so I hope that the judges see the risk I took
24:46Under a really tight time frame
24:54I was able to get a solid understanding of this material

24:59Even though I'm going to be judged and critiqued
25:02I am really proud of this look
25:04It's the most authentic representation of myself

30:10Tell us more about your design
30:12My style said punk
30:14So I drew inspiration from the OG punks back in the 70s in London
30:19And I knew that I really wanted to transform the bathroom tissue into something that I could build structure with
30:25So the corset is made out of probably around six or seven layers
30:29And of course it's me so I had to be a little bit risky
30:33So I thought a little nipple piercing
30:35When this came down the runway
30:37I kept turning to Spence
30:38I'm like
30:39He's broken the rules
30:40There's no way that this is bathroom tissue
30:42It's fabulous
30:44The ability to play with something so delicate like bathroom tissue
30:48And add the grommets and quilting on the sleeve
30:51You just literally took this material to all another world
30:54Seeing this to me just sets my heart on fire

30:57Oh my god
30:58This is everything
30:59What impressed me the most is your points of reference
31:05I'm from that era
31:06You know I started covering the punk scene back in the late 70s
31:09Interviewed Vivian Westwood countless times
31:12And she'd be so proud of you

31:22But I don't think we should be seeing that anymore from anyone else

31:50She doesn't know any better to be wearing both these incredibly ostentatious outfits at the same time

31:57Sometimes new money can be cheap
31:58But you gave it this richness with that piping

33:25The first thought that came to mind for Preppy
33:27Was pleated skirts and sweater vests
33:30Then I started thinking about those dolls
33:31With the snap-on clothes
33:33So I wanted to go for that idea
33:36I did really appreciate that you used color
33:38I think you're the only designer that used color
33:41I think it really drove the idea home of Preppyness
33:44Well pink was the only color option offered to us
33:46It's almost like you were saying it like
33:48Oh it's the only thing we could get
33:49We're liking the pink
33:50I don't think I would have actually gotten Preppy
33:52If this was in full white
33:53I'm just curious to know why
33:56The top of the skirt was presented in that way
33:59I wanted it to be off of the hips
34:01Like to the same reference of the dolls
34:03If that skirt were to be a little more animated
34:06That would just bring home
34:07That doll effect that you wanted
34:09Sometimes I think your storytelling

34:30I did want to create a cool uptown girl

34:35Petal making is something I do quite often at home

34:39I think that is where my eye went to when I first saw it
34:43But a hoodie for me was just like a big cliche
34:45I would have loved to see something else
34:47It's a lot at once
34:49There's not a lot of breathing room

34:52There might have been an opportunity to crop it

34:58The look came out and I thought

36:35From the overwhelming silhouette
36:38I mean, those sleeves came to play
36:40They were so over the top
36:42That's a big brownie point for me
36:44I loved Maya's use of color
36:47Preppy pink
36:48The two and two go hand in hand together
36:50The ability to transform bathroom tissue
36:52Into something that really looked like plaid
36:55I thought was, like, really beautiful
36:56But if Maya didn't tell us about the doll
36:59I don't think I would have understood the concept
