01:06For me creating a couture look on a budget is what I do, but I was safe last week
01:12So I need to step it up
01:14We have a quilted puffer vest a men's plaid shirt a long cardigan a rhinestone bow sweater and a faux fur
01:25Sherpa jacket the puffer vest has so much potential. You can create some really cool silhouettes
01:31That wintry cardigan is going to be the hardest. There's so many motifs. There's like three colors on it
01:38To be clear. You're not using the actual pieces in your looks. We want you to use your imaginations

01:49But I'm pretty used to working on a tighter budget because the money is usually coming out of my pocket

08:29So this week I'm really challenging myself

30:19I wanted to embody the inspiration piece from Giant Tiger
30:22I wanted to keep the idea of timelessness, simplicity and elegance
30:26And my look cost $261
30:30I think you really know who you are
30:33You are all about elegance
30:35And you know how to deliver it
30:37But as it came down the runway
30:39It just didn't really inspire me
30:41Because it seemed like a dress that I'd seen many, many, many times before
30:45It's a basic velvet tube dress
30:47Like anybody, my intern could have made that in 20 minutes
30:50It's just not enough
30:52One of the things that grabbed my attention
30:54Maybe not in the best way
30:55Was the zipper in the back
30:56So I went for the silver zipper
30:58Because I thought the zipper would play on the bow
31:01You don't like that zipper
31:03There's no way
31:04Turn around really quick
31:05That bubbly, bumpy
31:07You know, it wasn't bubbling before
31:08Silver zipper down the back
31:09You don't like that zipper

31:12I actually think the bows are quite interesting
31:15They're really beautiful how you did them
31:17But I think they could have been so much more

31:21This next look is one of our favorites
31:27Leland, you gave his tiger, not kitten
31:31I spent 330, but only because the shearling was so expensive to get
31:35When we see a shearling coat, there's usually not much detail
31:38Because the fabric itself is so difficult to work with
31:40And I challenged myself to actually pleat it
31:43And give it some structure
31:45To really give it couture and high fashion
31:47Every penny wasn't wasted
31:49That bag is great, the shoes are great
31:52Had you not had those things, I think it wouldn't have been as successful
31:55If I was going to hit the top of my budget
31:57I really wanted to make sure I could give the customer as much as they could have
32:01I was like, you know, it's Mariah in Aspen
32:04She got out of the car, everyone's following her around
32:07And I just love that feeling right away
32:09Like I envisioned someone wearing it
32:11All the pieces were fantastic
32:13Fun and sassy
32:15The whole thing, I'm just kudos

32:21The trim is like chef's kiss

32:33Maya, I spent $283
32:37My inspiration piece was the long cardigan
32:39With the snowflakes and the polka dots and the stripes
32:42There was just too many elements
32:44It felt heavy
32:45It looked rushed
32:46And I could see that all on the runway
32:48The hardest part of this challenge for me
32:50Was finding the fabrics
32:52I don't usually use sparkly things
32:54If you don't use glitter fabric
32:57Then why'd you pick it?
32:59I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone
33:02And when I saw this fabric
33:04It really spoke to the old princess movie animations
33:08Hmm
33:09There's always such poetry to what you do
33:13And I totally got the snow queen idea
33:15Just the execution lacked something
33:18I don't think the front looks great
33:19It doesn't really close, but does it close?
33:22So I'm just very confused
33:24I think for this, you know, you missed the mark
33:26I do know that I could have done something better

33:39The piece I got was a flannel plaid shirt
33:42I wanted to take something sexy from a casual piece
33:45I really like this look
33:47You use the springboard of that plaid flannel shirt

33:51And so basic and so comfortable
33:53And you took it to a fantasy level
33:55I really see the vision
33:57I love the shoulders
33:58There's something very strong about it
33:59And the cutouts sexy
34:01I was really impressed by it

34:04Is that it's just kind of a modern silhouette
34:07But you're missing some plaid elements though

34:11The connection is a bit off

34:19But the inspiration should be somewhat there

35:16I love both the designs
35:17But you've got to give Charles' credit
35:19That was a beautiful dress
35:21Oh, I like the plaid look
35:22I did like that
35:23I loved all three, too
35:26I know, Coco
35:27But I thought it was kind of fabulous
35:28I don't know what you were seeing
35:30You're not on the top, too
35:32I think if the plaid was really done perfectly
35:34If it was done perfectly

35:36But it wasn't
35:37If you want to do flannel, go for it
35:38He went and found some other material
35:39And put some lines on it
35:40And was like, that's flannel
35:41Here's the thing
35:42We have Curtis
35:43Who spent the least amount of all of the designers
35:46And then you have Leland
35:47Who spent the most of all the designs
35:48So those are our top two
35:50And what are we gonna do?
35:51We're gonna go with a superior look
35:53I really did like Curtis
35:55The parka couture moment
35:58I like the weirdness of it
36:00The idea is a bit off
36:02I really appreciate the imagination
36:04It felt like something that, you know, we'd see in a couture show
36:07But Leland's oozed attitude
36:10I know the struggles that he's probably had
36:13Trying to not make it too costumey
36:15He really showed that he knows how to make beautiful garments
36:19The detail that he put
36:21And the work that went into that shearling look
36:23Was so beautiful
36:24I agree
36:25I love that
36:26Yes, he spent a significant amount of money
36:28But we got a bag
36:29We got a pair of shoes
36:30And we got a coat
36:31I think he did the budget justice
