00:00Previously on Project Runway. There are 11 designers left and remember one designer will be cut every week until three remain. Those three will show their line at Olympus Fashion Week. Then one winner will be chosen. The winner will receive a spread in Elle Magazine, a mentorship with Banana Republic Design Team and a hundred thousand dollars to start their own line. This challenge is all about envy.
00:30I think things are changing. People are starting to get paranoid and delusional. I'm asking you, that's all. You're an athlete. I didn't take the bitches' dye. Get your garment and meet me outside. We weren't told where we were being taken. Fashion is a business and you need to sell that vision. Alright, let's let them in. I was experiencing a lot of envy. I don't like my weaknesses to be on display. I have been unfolding a strategy.
00:58We're barren all here.
01:01I was going to get people to confide anything that I thought I could use to my advantage if I needed to get them out of my way.
01:10You know, Nina gave a weird and shocked facial expression. I never apologized for my work, period. Bottom line.
01:16The winner of the silent auction is Karasan. And that means that you're safe for the next challenge.
01:26Wendy, your work looks a little unfinished.
01:30Star, did you think that that was going to be possibly difficult to sell when you started describing cancer to people?
01:38Wendy, you're in. That means Mario out.
01:42This is a search for the next big fashion designer.
01:52It's a cutthroat business.
01:53The competition was fierce.
01:55Twelve contestants, three finalists, and one winner.
02:00Three designers will make their runway debut at Olympus Fashion League.
02:03I plan to make it to Fashion League.
02:05I think I'll be number one.
02:06And the winner of Project Runway will receive everything they need to start their own label.
02:10I think I deserve to win.
02:12People are going to start getting pretty bitchy.
02:14Oh my.
02:15For these twelve contestants, Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.
02:25Do you miss Mario?
02:27No.
02:28I'm going to have to start getting competitive.
02:30After the Mario, I have a point of view, opinion, f*** you thing, there's no room for me to act like that anymore.
02:37So now I know I've learned my lesson.
02:39I'm going to play the game.
02:40I'm going to inject me into my work, but I'm going to play the game.
02:44I came here questioning whether I should be a lawyer, whether I should be a fashion designer,
02:50and all this passion and creativity that I thought I had lost is coming out.
02:56I'm not as good as some other people, but I do feel like I can at least run with the pack.
03:04I'm here right now at this moment concentrating on winning this thing.
03:08I was living for the past three years in Russia, somewhat happily married and had a successful business,
03:13ended up getting a divorce and just kind of got homesick and wanted to get back to New York.
03:17I believe in a way, Project Runway is a turning point to reinventing myself.
03:24We were told to meet Heidi at the Banana Republic Design Studios.
03:28When we showed up, I was just wondering what we were going to do this time.
03:31Welcome to Banana Republic.
03:33Two of you are gone and ten of you are left still to compete.
03:39And now we're here at Banana Republic and I'm going to give you a new challenge.
03:44This week, it's all about commercial appeal.
03:47Your challenge is to design a holiday party dress that would appeal to the Banana Republic customer.
03:55I want to introduce you to Deborah Lloyd.
03:57She's the head of design for Banana Republic and she will tell you all the details.
04:03Thank you, Heidi.
04:04Well, welcome to our design studios.
04:06I'm so happy to have you here.
04:07Now, when you're working for a big brand like Banana Republic, you have to think about many different things.
04:13It has to work for the customer.
04:15It has to be sexy, but yet sophisticated.
04:18We have two major themes this season and you can see them reflected on the walls.
04:24One is this beautiful yellow and pink story and it's called sort of sexy secretary, my grandmother's attic.
04:32And our second story this season is really inspired by art deco.
04:36I don't want you to lose your personality in this challenge, but remember you are designing for Banana Republic, so please try and reflect that.
04:45I've got fabrics for you to take with you.
04:48Good luck and happy designing.
04:50They're my favorite fabrics.
04:54It's my favorite store.
04:56And I'm a Banana Republic customer, so I have too many ideas and I can't concentrate.
05:02I'm so excited.
05:02Wonderful.
05:03I immediately was like drawn to this fabric.
05:13I love it.
05:14It's just like a rich rosebud.
05:17So I'm thinking the dress is just going to be like a rose.
05:20Close to the noise.
05:21Where'd you get that?
05:25I'm frightened.
05:26I really am.
05:28What I did for the second challenge was like quintessential J, you know, crazy, over-the-top, social message.
05:36And then going to Banana Republic and it's like the totally opposite.
05:40Oh, I have to tell you that it is just not me at all.
05:45We'll see what comes out of my fingertips.
05:48Please.
05:51Designers, now that you know your challenge, I want to bring you back to the runway so you can choose your model.
05:57And don't forget your fabrics.
05:59Let's go.
06:00And now comes the fun part.
06:07You've seen the models already twice in action.
06:09And you know it's crucial to pick the right model.
06:12Let's bring out the models.
06:13I just want to remind our models that this is a competition for you as well.
06:26The Spread and L magazine is up for grabs.
06:30There are now 11 of you left on the runway and only 10 designers.
06:33The designers will now choose and one of you will be out.
06:37I really want to be the last model here.
06:40And I really want that Spread now.
06:42I hope I get the chance to work with all of them.
06:45And their styles are also different and I really want to wear all their clothes.
06:50Kara-san, you won the last challenge.
06:53You get to pick first.
06:56This week, I think I'm going to go with a very strong Walker Martin.
07:03I got the one that I wanted.
07:15Next one is Vanessa.
07:17Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.
07:20Morgan.
07:21Okay.
07:26Austin.
07:27Melissa.
07:30Austin.
07:32Kevin.
07:33Olga.
07:35Star.
07:36Joy.
07:38Wendy.
07:40Audrey.
07:42Alexandra.
07:44Erin.
07:45Nora.
07:47Allison.
07:48It's been awesome.
07:49But you know, I like to change it up.
07:52This time, I'm going to go with Jenny.
07:57Jay.
07:58This week, I'm going to go with the jolly green Julia.
08:02Woo!
08:02Woo!
08:02Woo!
08:02Woo!
08:04As it got down to the ninth button and my name was not called, I realized I am the last
08:10one.
08:11It's pretty tough when you have to pick the last model, eliminating the other model.
08:17Jay.
08:18Oh my God, it's Allison and Josie.
08:20Yeah.
08:22I was saying, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
08:24There's only one button left in my bag, there's only one button left in my bag, and that belongs
08:29to Robert.
08:31There's two models left on the stage.
08:34Allison and Josie Ann.
08:35The model you choose, the model you choose will be in, the other model will be out.
08:45I have to think about what's best for the runway.
08:50So I have to pick Josie.
08:53Yes!
08:54Woo!
08:55I was fine, and then I saw Nora started crying, and then I was like, oh crap, my eyes got watery.
09:05I was for sure that if I didn't pick her, somebody would have picked her.
09:10I'm sorry.
09:13You're out.
09:16See you soon.
09:18Bye, you did a great job.
09:20Run, run, run, run.
09:27I send you off to your challenge.
09:29You have two days to complete it.
09:31Good luck, and I see you on the runway.
09:33Bye.
09:40We have two days for this challenge, so I think we'll all be able to focus on our designs
10:00and the construction and make it as good as it can be.
10:03My design is to take this rose print on cream satin and make a sort of afternoon party dress.
10:14I know a lot of other designers just have completely conflicting styles with what Banana's all about.
10:23We're going to do a really, really s***y bias.
10:27The way the challenge has been set up, it doesn't feel to me that there's any room for my brand of creativity to come through.
10:34I wonder how hard I would fall to the ground if I jumped through the window right now.
10:40I get stressed out.
10:41I go through patterns with this stuff.
10:42So then I start being boisterous and loud and obnoxious.
10:47Jesus Christ, Rob, how the f*** are you going to take?
10:50It's going to take me as long as damn possible.
10:51I'm sick of your s***.
10:52I find a lot of what these people do just really annoying.
10:58I don't need any of this crap.
11:01Jay, get off my machine!
11:02That was so clear.
11:04I never actually got it.
11:05If you get to be 40 years old, you know an opportunity when you see it.
11:10I just got a different agenda while I'm here.
11:14I'm so f***ing worried, that bitch.
11:16I'm going to come over here and f*** you up.
11:18I'm so f***ing worried.
11:20It's very childish.
11:24Like a lot of the screaming, you know, it's annoying to me.
11:30What if Banana would let any of these people work in their studio?
11:34I will always be a goofball, you know, but I'm still going to get my s*** done.
11:39Put her in the trash can, please!
11:49Please!
11:50I don't want to interrupt you, but can I get everyone to gather around, please?
11:58A letter has been delivered from Banana Republic.
12:02We didn't know there was going to be a twist, but now it's just like, okay, what's the twist this week?
12:10And I want Vanessa to read it.
12:15Coming up on Project Runway.
12:17The stakes rose a million percent.
12:20The whole room got a lot more intense.
12:22Say it to my face, Kevin.
12:23I don't think you want to know what I think.
12:25A letter has been delivered from Banana Republic.
12:39And I want Vanessa to read it.
12:41Debra Lloyd and Banana Republic have some very exciting news.
12:48After having the opportunity to meet all of you face-to-face, she feels so confident you will do a fabulous job with this challenge
12:55that Banana Republic is pleased to announce that the winning holiday party dress will be manufactured and sold in select stores nationwide
13:02and online as part of Banana Republic's winter line.
13:07Best of luck.
13:08Wonderful.
13:11The stakes rose a million percent.
13:18There's another aspect, though, and it has to do with how big this reward is for this challenge.
13:25That is that moving forward into the next challenge, the winner of this does not have immunity, so there's no guaranteed in in the following challenge.
13:34Being safe is great.
13:36Having your design reach millions of people is better to me.
13:41Any woman who could walk in and buy an Austin Scarlet original, Banana Republic, this would be just a dream come true.
13:48I hope you're really thrilled with this opportunity, because chances are greater that all ten of you would be struck by lightning than that this would happen for you.
13:57All right.
13:58Back to work.
13:59Thanks.
13:59That's what we need here, Kath.
14:06We need a mud wrestling match or jello.
14:12How come everyone got quiet all of a sudden?
14:14Huh?
14:15Stop trying to distract me, Rob.
14:17The whole room got a lot more intense, like, everybody I could tell, you know, their eyes just, like, lit up and everybody was like, let's get to work, you know?
14:24I had a strategy when I first came into the competition.
14:31After two weeks, I wasn't doing very well.
14:34I just wish I would have seen more clothes, not well executed.
14:42I decided to basically stop worrying about other people and start thinking about what I could do and do it.
14:51With this design, it's quite different than what I've done for the past two challenges.
14:55It's very conservative.
14:57Obviously, I need to produce a very strong piece for me to get myself out of this hole.
15:01There couldn't have been a challenge that was better suited for my creative abilities because our inspiration is art deco.
15:11That's my favorite, favorite stuff.
15:14So I think I have an original design that is really nice looking.
15:20I like this dress.
15:21It's going to be a good one, I think.
15:23I think they'll like it.
15:24It's what's going on right now.
15:25I think there's going to be a lot of black.
15:27With this Brunana Republic project, I had to place myself as a designer for the Brunana Republic people.
15:34I wanted to make a subtle dress.
15:36You know, accents just like, you know, make a nice clean princess with an A-line skirt.
15:41And then I kind of said, you know what, no, I want to change it around.
15:43Let me make it all leopard.
15:45I started making three dresses.
15:46I think I need to, I need to, I need to sleep on it.
15:51You're going to sleep on it?
15:52It's almost 12 o'clock and Robert still has a lot of work to do.
15:56And I think he could be in jeopardy of not finishing.
15:59All right, I'm going to sleep on it.
16:00Star's doing a black, black and red.
16:15Is that bad?
16:16It's going to be more subtle than that.
16:18I overheard him say, Star's also doing a black dress, but it's not, not so subtle, you know, for the Banana Republic style.
16:26Say it to my face, Kevin.
16:28Say what?
16:29Say what?
16:29Whatever you have to say.
16:31There's no reason for people to play petty games and like try and make people feel bad.
16:36So if you want to say that kind of stuff, fine, but it's rude to stand over there and say it in earshot of me.
16:43If you want to know, I'll tell you.
16:45But I don't think you want to know what I think.
16:49On that note, it is time to get a drink.
16:51We all went out to a bar for the first time.
17:01Definitely, definitely needed.
17:02I should say all of us.
17:03Wendy and Austin didn't go home.
17:05They didn't want to come with us.
17:05Good night, guys.
17:06Good night, sure.
17:07No, no, go in the bar.
17:08No, we'll see you tomorrow.
17:10I'm in the fresh, compacted socks.
17:13I'm here to work and to prove myself as a designer.
17:18I'm not here to party.
17:19We went out to a bar with no people in it.
17:33I can handle my liquor, you know?
17:35Some people can't.
17:45Nora, not a good drunk.
17:49I hope that my parents are proud of me for where I am.
18:00You're right, you know I'm the f***ing ground.
18:07Coming up on Project Runway.
18:09Nora, how did you get stained out?
18:11Everything was kind of going wrong for me with this project.
18:13Oh, my God.
18:14I was like sweating balls.
18:19Last night, I knew I had a whole day of work ahead of us.
18:33And I didn't want to go get trashed and come in hungover the next day when I had a dress to make.
18:40Project Runway is not about partying for me.
18:43It's about working.
18:46I think a lot of the designers this morning were a bit hungover.
18:53So I'm definitely glad I didn't go out.
18:55Today is our second full day of work on Banana Republic.
19:06But it just seems like we have a lot of work left to do.
19:11So it's kind of funny, actually.
19:12This morning, I'm like, you know what?
19:13I've got to make this final decision.
19:15And I couldn't be any more happy than what I'm working on right now.
19:18So I took back my little subtle lace blue and added a little leopard into the mixture.
19:24I love the leopard, Roman.
19:25I know.
19:26I'm not doing it, though.
19:27I can't.
19:27Not for Banana.
19:30I'm very happy with my dress.
19:32It's not simple.
19:34The dress as a whole, I find to be as simplistic as your explanation.
19:39It's very Banana Republic.
19:41It's sexy.
19:42And it has the sophistication that they want.
19:44But at the same time, it's like me.
19:46I see myself in that dress.
19:48My dress is more of like a resort holiday thing.
19:56I was thinking more like the Hamptons or St. Barge.
20:01From how I feel right now to how I felt when I got the challenge are two different things.
20:05Because I was like sweating balls.
20:09I've been having these moments in this process that something will pop up cosmically.
20:14When I was sketching, and I literally look up, and there's a picture of the Chrysler Building.
20:19And I'm like, the Chrysler Building is Art Deco?
20:23So I'm kind of working off of that.
20:24These kind of sun shapes, rays, pleating.
20:29Now I am on my way.
20:32Star, how are you doing?
20:45It'll be a miracle if I finish this thing.
20:48It's a lot more complicated than I expected.
20:50It took forever and ever and ever and ever.
20:53I've been completely lamb blasted by these judges twice now.
20:58And I'm still here, and I have to go through it a third time.
21:01I'm going to do everything I can to really play it safe.
21:04Are you concerned about the time?
21:07Yeah.
21:07That remains?
21:08Yeah.
21:08Do you have a plan for how to use it?
21:09I'm just going to do everything I can and save the trim for last.
21:12Okay.
21:13Okay, thank you, Star.
21:14Thanks.
21:15Robert, what's going on?
21:17Last night, I had a lot of thoughts going through my head.
21:23I was just honestly going crazy.
21:24I didn't know what to do.
21:25You know, just like figuring, you know, flip a coin and pick one.
21:28But then, you know, I was feeling more of this, and then I was debating.
21:31You know, I like this and this.
21:32And then I just, you know what?
21:33I think I'm just going to put the little accent of the leopard with the ice blue.
21:38Like safari meets the ice cap.
21:40You're taking risks.
21:45I'll say that to you.
21:46You're taking risks with this.
21:47What I did combine all the three dresses and made it into one, and then I kind of overdid it.
21:53Good.
21:54Oh, yeah.
21:54I'm a risk-taker.
21:55Good, good, good.
21:57I am going to leave you until tomorrow.
22:00You have about an hour tonight.
22:03You'll have two hours tomorrow.
22:05Bye-bye.
22:06Bye.
22:06Have a good evening.
22:10I went to, like, iron my dress, and the second I picked up the iron, it's just, like, brown liquid of rusty water just oozed right out.
22:27It sucks.
22:28These things trip.
22:31You know, how do you get stains out?
22:33Baby powder.
22:34You know, the silk that I picked out wasn't the best silk.
22:37The sewing machine that I had made all my seams puffy.
22:41It's just everything was kind of going wrong for me with this project.
22:43Oh, my God.
22:45Thank you, darling.
22:49There was nothing I could do.
22:50Like, you know, Nora helped me with a little baby powder, you know, to wipe it, but that didn't do anything.
22:54So I'm like, you know what?
22:55I'm going to save that problem for the morning.
22:57The whole judging process is one big ball of stress.
23:13It's really horrible to speculate about who's going to leave.
23:16I mean, it could be me.
23:18It could be anyone, really.
23:20You don't really know.
23:21It's kind of a chaotic night last night.
23:27It was a little tough for me to go to sleep, and I'm not thinking negatively about it.
23:32I just know what I have to do right now.
23:33I'm going in there, focus, and just, you know, do the job I have to do.
23:36I'm figuring I'm going a different route.
23:38I'm going to present myself a little bit more, you know, just to fit the banana republic soul.
23:43So I've got to transform myself into, like, you know, a banana republican.
23:48I'm really happy for Wendy this week.
23:50I'm really actually rooting for her a lot.
23:52So I got up early this morning, I went up to Wendy's, and we just had a little fun extreme makeover.
23:58Alexandra, do you have a curling iron or do you just have this flat iron?
24:02I feel that how she's dressed the last two weeks contributes to how the judges view her.
24:09Does that look like the face of a 40-year-old woman?
24:11No.
24:12I say no.
24:13I have almost no sense of my own physical appearance to the world.
24:19I feel so grateful to her, and we're going to see if it changes the way the judges respond to me.
24:25You know, when she goes up there and she talks to Nina, it can be like, yeah, Nina, you know, bring it, you know, bring it on.
24:31Okay, see you in a few.
24:33Okay.
24:34I did feel good about my dress today.
24:46I am, you know, as always, cautiously optimistic and hoping for the best.
24:51I'm good.
25:00I'm comfortable with my dress.
25:01I can't believe I pulled it off.
25:03Julia, I'm trying to give that girl some hips because, God, you know, you didn't give her any.
25:08Of all the dresses I've ever made, this is the one I'm most proud of.
25:16I think it turned out really well.
25:17I'm sort of amazed I was able to pull it off because it was kind of beyond my technical skills.
25:25I saw a little bit of stars, and I looked at it for a second, and I was like, ooh.
25:33Maybe I'm wrong, man.
25:34She's going to kick my ass.
25:34Is there a dot right there?
25:38Is that dirty?
25:39Yeah, I meant to put that there.
25:40Oh.
25:41We're going to cover this baby up right now.
25:43I'm going to put a brush on here, possibly something like this.
25:48That's exactly what we're doing, let's see.
25:52I don't see a stain no more.
25:54I think we've got to sell ourselves a glamorous holiday dress.
25:59All right, everybody.
26:00It's challenge number three.
26:02And I have to tell you, this is going to be one difficult set of designs to judge because you all look sensational.
26:09So, look, let's give each other a hug and a cheer and good luck.
26:19Coming up on Project Runway.
26:21I have a hard time imagining that dress at Banana Republic.
26:28I don't feel I know what your style is.
26:36Welcome to the runway.
26:38Ten of you are left.
26:39As you know, fashion is cutthroat, and either you're in or you're out.
26:44At the end of the fashion show, one of you will be out.
26:53Your challenge was to design a holiday party dress for Banana Republic.
26:57You will be judged on the style of your outfit and how well it fits the Banana Republic aesthetic.
27:02On behalf of the winning dress, a donation will be made by Banana Republic to dress for success
27:10and not-for-profit organization that helps low-income women with career development.
27:17The winner's dress will be sold in select Banana Republic stores nationwide and online.
27:24I want to introduce you to the judges.
27:29We have Michael Kors, fashion designer extraordinaire,
27:32Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle magazine,
27:35and Deborah Lloyd, head of design for Banana Republic.
27:39Let's start the show.
27:44On this particular challenge, I really felt that things had to be finished in a certain way
27:49because it's a Banana Republic clientele, working women who want a lot for their money
27:55but don't want to spend a lot of money.
27:57So, I mean, you have to keep all these things in mind.
28:08Just the incentive of having my dress in every town in the United States,
28:13if not, you know, all over the world, that's just incredibly exciting.
28:19I feel like I accomplished the task that was put out for us,
28:34and I think I came out with a nice-looking wearable dress.
28:40I'm really hoping that the judges are going to like it.
28:43I definitely think it was a challenge that pates my strength.
28:57Banana Republic, you know, it's more, like, ready to wear,
29:00which is more of what I like to design.
29:02When I saw my dress go down the runway,
29:13I just can't have any better feeling as a designer
29:15than to see your work on The Perfect Girl,
29:19and it just looks beautiful.
29:20I guess somewhere in my soul,
29:40I knew I could do something that was pretty.
29:44I don't know why I got so pent up about it.
29:48I knew my idea was good, and I knew it was strong.
30:02I felt like I was going to appeal to the judges.
30:05The dress that I did for Banana Republic was,
30:20I think it was the prettiest one,
30:23and I think it fitted the theme the best.
30:26I would love to have my piece manufactured
30:34because everybody in my town at home
30:38shops at Banana Republic,
30:39and I'm really excited,
30:41and I think it's an amazing honor.
30:43I always watch the reaction of the judges
30:58when my model walks by,
31:00and I'm like, okay,
31:01I am definitely the bottom of the barrel.
31:03I want to ask all the designers
31:11to please come onto the runway.
31:19We've tallied your scores.
31:21If I say your name,
31:23please step forward.
31:24Alexandra.
31:32Wendy.
31:36Austin.
31:39Star.
31:43Jay.
31:47Robert.
31:47The designers who I haven't called,
31:55your scores have qualified you
31:56to stay in for the next challenge.
31:59You haven't won,
32:00but you're not out.
32:02You can leave the wrong way.
32:03You can leave the wrong way.
32:03Now we're down to six.
32:21The six of you represent
32:22the best and the worst.
32:29Let's bring out the models.
32:33I want to start with Austin's dress.
32:43Do you want to tell us
32:44a little bit about it?
32:45I really love the whole idea
32:46of sort of a winter floral.
32:48I really try to emphasize
32:51a sort of diagonal idea
32:54that sort of crisscrosses in the front
32:56and then again terminates in the back
32:58and then flowing into the drapery of a skirt.
33:02Is it attached
33:03or is it part of the dress?
33:05This actually is not,
33:06I didn't have time.
33:11Alexandra,
33:13I love the look of your dress.
33:15I think you really captured the inspiration.
33:17You've come up with the perfect
33:19sort of 30s inspired party dress.
33:21And it's very wearable.
33:23It's refined yet very sophisticated.
33:25I love what you did.
33:26And it's very comfortable too.
33:27Wendy, do you want to explain
33:33your holiday dress?
33:35This basically for me
33:36is the ideal dress
33:38for a young professional woman
33:39who is going to a cocktail party
33:41in the holiday time.
33:44And this of course was inspired
33:45by the fact that your holiday 2004 collection
33:49has capes.
33:50So I wanted to do a variation
33:52so that it would fit in
33:53with your collection.
33:55Wendy always,
33:56I found in the past,
33:58we always kind of agreed on
34:00that the dresses were never really
34:02looking like they were complete.
34:03And I think this time
34:04it looks completely complete to me.
34:10Start.
34:10Let's talk about this dress.
34:13I have a hard time imagining
34:14that dress at Banana Republic.
34:17It's a little costumey.
34:18Why did you take it this far?
34:20I mean, what was your thought?
34:24I'm actually an avid customer
34:25of Banana Republic.
34:26It is something
34:27that I could see hanging there.
34:29Is it really the customer?
34:32Is it really...
34:32Yeah, the design sensibility.
34:33I think it's sort of moved on.
34:35It's got a little bit of a hard edge.
34:36I think it's sort of,
34:38there's almost that jester statement.
34:41We haven't talked about Jane's dress yet.
34:43I mean, this looks very complicated to do.
34:45Very.
34:47It fits her like a dream.
34:48Yeah.
34:49This is happening to me.
34:51Really?
34:52No, it really fits her beautifully.
34:55Robert, this doesn't look like you.
34:59I feel like this is a little bit of a pastiche
35:02of too much of what's happening out there right now.
35:05Did you get bogged down with the fabric?
35:07Or the concept of my idea
35:09was I have this like flowing,
35:10you know, like the chiffon flowing
35:11into the dress to like a basic solid color.
35:15I have to agree with Michael.
35:16I don't feel I know what your style is.
35:19It has to be what's going to happen next in fashion.
35:22How far can I push it without going too far?
35:26It's got a brooch,
35:27which there's a thousand brooches out there now.
35:30We're dancing on the lip of the volcano.
35:32Into the volcano, I think, a little bit for us.
35:37You may leave the runway
35:38and we're going to call you out shortly.
35:41Okay, first I want to talk about Austin.
35:45He gets really vintage.
35:48I'm just trying to get him to do something
35:50a little more realistic.
35:51This dress has to sell.
35:52I can see that dress and guess,
35:54really, his personality came straight out.
35:57And then it was so him,
35:59maybe he didn't listen to the aesthetic enough.
36:01At the end of the day,
36:02is the real woman really going to go and shop
36:04and wear that, you know, frou-frou?
36:07I don't know.
36:08I was all about Wendy.
36:09I think Alexandra.
36:10I disagree on Alexandra,
36:12but I have seen her past.
36:14I've seen too many of those slip dresses.
36:16It's just too simple.
36:17I think that is so wearable in our dress.
36:19But yes, it was.
36:20It covers many different figures,
36:22but I thought it was a beautiful dress for Banana,
36:24as did was Wendy's as well.
36:25Wendy's was more our typical aesthetic,
36:28very clean, very pure,
36:29but I also love the whimsy
36:30that Alexandra brought to it.
36:37Star.
36:38Oh.
36:38I don't like the whole color theme.
36:41I don't see that in the mix-up,
36:43because I remember the color board that you had,
36:45it was all flowing.
36:46We kept the black away from the pink,
36:48and basically she managed to put the two extremes together
36:51that we'd kept apart,
36:52and I just thought it really pushed it.
36:54For me, it was the jester dress.
36:55I think for her,
36:56she had a preconceived about what art deco meant to her,
36:59and she drove that through.
37:04Jay was a surprise to me.
37:07All of a sudden,
37:08he went from Mr. Punk to this...
37:10To, like, immaculate...
37:11I was shocked.
37:12I have to say,
37:12that top was exquisite.
37:13The top was great.
37:14It was beautiful.
37:15You know how long it was here.
37:16And I think he was surprised that we liked it.
37:18I think he was...
37:19He couldn't believe we liked it.
37:20He couldn't believe it.
37:21I mean,
37:22that top was beautiful,
37:23and when you give art deco inspiration,
37:25I could say,
37:25that's the cries of the building.
37:26Robert.
37:34Robert.
37:35Robert's dress was so overly designed.
37:38Color combination.
37:39Color combination.
37:40And he had the sequins on the leopard.
37:42Did you see that?
37:43So we're pretty much...
37:44In agreement?
37:46In agreement?
37:46Yes.
37:46I think so.
37:47I think so.
37:48Let's bring him back out.
37:49Okay.
37:56We've heard what you had to say,
38:07and we made our decision.
38:10One of you will win the Madonna Republic challenge,
38:13and one of you will be out.
38:26Jay, you're in.
38:45You can leave the runway.
38:46Austin.
39:02You're in.
39:03You can leave the runway.
39:10Wendy.
39:13You are the winner of the Banana Republic challenge,
39:15and your address will be
39:17in select stores nationwide
39:18and online.
39:20Wendy,
39:21you really surprised me
39:23in such a good way.
39:24I...
39:24so did on you the last time.
39:28I think this was impeccable.
39:30It looks beautiful.
39:32I think you did an amazing job.
39:34Congratulations.
39:35You can leave the runway.
39:39It's huge for me
39:40that I won the Banana Republic challenge.
39:43What that means,
39:44for my life.
39:47I don't, you know,
39:48that...
39:50Obviously, it changed my life.
39:58I mean, of course,
39:58how could it not?
40:05Alexandra?
40:08You're in.
40:09You can leave the runway.
40:10Robert and Star.
40:26Robert?
40:28Your design seems pieced together
40:30and lacks direction.
40:32Star,
40:34your style is too broad,
40:35and your designs have consistently
40:38been very over the top.
40:41Robert,
40:42you're in.
40:44love are you.
40:50You're in.
40:51We're out.
40:52We're out.
40:52Father.
40:53...
40:54You're in.
40:56We're out.
40:57You're out.
41:07We're out.
41:11You're out.
41:11Ssssssss
41:13Ssss
41:14Ssss
41:15Ssss
41:17Ssss
41:28Ssss
41:29Ssss
41:30Ssss
41:31Ssss
41:32She's kind of nervous right now.
41:36Star,
41:37We all really think that you have a lot of talent, but we're looking for someone who's more versatile.
41:45I'm sorry, you're out.
41:51Peter's in.
42:07I didn't think that this was going to be my time to go.
42:27The thing I've learned is just, when I have a passion about something, I just have to go for it.
42:33I don't know what's going to happen, but it was just a really incredible opportunity for me.
42:42Coming up this season on Project Runway.
42:45This week is all about rock and roll.
42:48F***ing day, let's get some coke in our system.
42:52Oh God, here it comes.
42:55Model from hell, Morgan.
42:57Conquers and kills the world.
42:59Mary's gonna sell my vagina.
43:00Morgan!
43:01She's gonna blow the whole f***ing set up.
43:04If it was me, you would have heard it through my mouth.
43:07Carousin, like, called her on it.
43:08I don't understand why Carousin had to say that.
43:11Can you take the song from me, please?
43:13He does, like, some somersault.
43:15And you hear this big bang on the floor.
43:17Houston, we have a problem.
43:19It was just like, we're all really worried.
43:24Nancy O'Dell.
43:25Miss O'Dell.
43:27May I have the honor of this dance?
43:29I don't have to understand Austin's vision.
43:32Complete bulls***.
43:34Yeah, I just plan on ignoring Wendy.
43:35It's just like beating a turkey, not foam.
43:38I can staaaaaam!
43:41Bitch is gonna get stabbed.
43:43I'm out of here.
43:44It just ramped up the stress.
43:46Sounds like all of you are on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
43:50If something feels weird about her, she won't speak.
43:52I came here to compete, and that's to be f***ed around with by somebody.
43:56What happened to you?
43:57This is just gonna make every woman look like she's nursing.
44:01I thought it was dowdy.
44:03Wow.
44:04Something I wouldn't want to wear, I guess.
44:09We're trying to sell a giant bag of bulls*** to these judges.
44:14Those are the shorts from hell.
44:16I don't know what to think.
44:18I refuse to not get to New York Fashion Week.
44:23Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo.
44:25Stay tuned.
