09:53today's challenge is about partnerships first you need to choose a set of opposites for example hot and
10:05cold one design to represent hot one design cold but your designs must be cohesive as they will both go
10:15down the runway at the same time there will be no immunity for this challenge you will have 45 minutes
10:21to choose your opposites to choose your opposites and to sketch get busy designers
10:30opposites right yeah fidel turned around and looked at me right away and was like black and white
10:35yeah black and white masculine feminine some sort of androgyny soft and hard i do a solid
10:41bodice open now that you can open the legs so the air will just catch it oh my god i can do this in a day
10:48what about like if you had a jacket on top immediately me and megan we came up with the
10:55theme of hard and soft because like most of her stuff's very structural and mine's like very floaty
11:02what i'm doing it's very like tailored fitted pencil sort of like this power bitchy woman you're
11:07like from the robert palmer video
11:10so far working with megan is surprisingly okay i just hope that she can work fast i'm worried about

11:29that's interesting my style it's way younger than hers she's more mature and she's doing more
11:36something always like dark colors i go more for like fresh color or really bright colored and she never
11:42think of it as that like something boring it's not it's not gonna be nasty because i'm thinking
11:50it would be amazing to volume the real volume we decided to play with the opposite between shape
11:57like very very skinny versus very poofy almost like a balloon versus like a
12:03luchan is kind of very fixed in his style and he knows exactly what it is he likes and we make pieces
12:10like that and one shorter one longer right i want us to be very efficient because i always do a lot
12:16of weird stuff i want to make sure that we're going to get this challenge done impeccably and i want
12:21to win i want to win for a change we can nail this next on project runway canada one other thing

12:34i had to get go with the cheaper crabbier fabric
12:36i don't want to be trying to make something in your head because i don't see it

12:50we've already been partnered up and it's about opposites so we're having to design opposite styles

13:33the del does extreme detailing and kind of wacky and edgy i tend to be a little bit more clean lined
13:39and simple so we're trying to come up with something that reflects both listen listen good and evil i'll do

13:58so i'm doing this corset i am a period woman that's going out in the evening and you're doing the young

14:11i want something that has a sheen that's not going to look dull for megan's fabric we had to get a
14:16really expensive fabric 41.99 and the budget was really really small for mine so i had to get go
14:23with the cheaper crappier fabric polyester or silk polyester polyester it works last time

14:34a corset if i would make it plain with ribbons okay and don't want to be trying to make something
14:40in your head because i don't see it we were super efficient i'm usually the last person with the

16:13sometimes i'm a bad judge of time i haven't started sewing everyone started sewing and i feel like
16:19i have to bind everything uh you love to push yourself

16:34the challenge to a different level i'm doing something that he would do and he's doing something
16:38that i would do do you think we're doing the wrong thing by trying to do each other's style

16:47it's a bit more of a challenge right now because we really have to adapt our style to what the other

18:52so mine's the day dress she's like this like power bitch are you power bitch during the day
18:58yeah hang on so it's kind of like i like that part carly yeah what makes it cohesive is it's like

22:58mind the collar coming off i've seen the other contestants projects and they don't look very
23:08beautiful today for some reason there was a lot of confusion between contrast and similarity
23:15need to have more attitude we want to scare people erin makeup is going to help you a lot
23:20yeah so what we want to do for the makeup yeah we want to use this lace and create uh smoky eyes but
23:31smoky through the lace right okay and then for her we're going to do the exact same thing but with white
23:37i asked them to do something a bit more intricate where we're using lace as makeup so that we create
23:42a pattern of a lace on the instead of it just just a smoky eye the lace is very very small
23:48and we can't see the details it failed it didn't work so we had to switch the makeup to just smoky eyes
23:56clean beautiful with a very poppy bright red on the lips so that it goes with the dress that we
24:02have looks very good guys i was actually thinking of something really like straight hair and inner face
24:09really got it yeah she will wear a lot of makeup like black we will put a lot of beautiful fresh blush
24:21my plan for style in my model was to go really chic very clean upscale as opposed to mg we decided to do goth
24:29no i just let's do the corset now i'm a little bit nervous for mg and chernet because their stuff is
24:43very costumey i'm not confident the judges are going to get it if they'll understand the whole idea that

26:32your theme for this challenge was opposites you've partnered with a designer that's completely different
26:40from you you have selected an opposite theme but your designs also had to include one day wear lock
26:49and one evening let's say hello to our judges first from el canada editor-in-chief rita sylvan
26:58next from bustle clothing sean hewson and our special guest judge ian hilton he's a canadian
27:08influencing fashion he just jetted in from china where he's hard at work for ports international
27:16you will be judged on your merits as a pair but also on your design as an individual one designer
27:23will win this challenge and only one designer will be out
27:35she looked like a doll she was just perfect
27:40i was actually worried she might look too much like a doll or too much like a little girl
27:45but she just looked like a very tiny sheep woman and it was fabulous
27:54when i saw my garment coming down the runway i was inspired once again
27:58chanel she's just so beautiful and she pulled it off so well
28:04i'm very very inspired by her and by my work i feel like it's getting better and better
28:08i was worried that because we exaggerated the height of one model and we left one model without
28:19any heels whatsoever i wasn't sure if that would work but it did it looked beautiful
28:30i thought it looked good until i saw the back
28:33i was worried about that the whole time because the butt did not look good at all
28:47my model was great on the runway i love the silhouette
28:53the slit should have been higher in the back that was my mistake but i mean i almost didn't have
28:57the dress fit on the runway because the zipper broke
29:04the styling worked great i think it definitely got our point across
29:07the day and the night the harder look and the softer look
29:11it worked exactly how we wanted it to
29:19when i saw ashley come down the wrong way i thought it was vicious
29:21she was masculine but she was definitely a
29:28bitch like strong feminine quality to her at the same time
29:37jerry looks very pretty walking down the runway she's channeling pretty daytime girl and she looks cute
29:43she's walked well and i think the dress looks pretty
29:56i thought my garment was the strongest it had the most definition i wouldn't have changed anything
30:02when i saw my design coming down the runway i thought it was really fun
30:15i thought she was definitely doing a good job of being a very anal upscale woman who
30:20doesn't want to hear to be out of place
30:21when i saw jessica i freaked out she scares me
30:35she was so into it she was really like a gut so it was really funny actually and scary at the same time
30:42i thought the models did an amazing job acting out the roles that we gave them to play so we had
30:55to laugh it was just really funny

32:06chanette and mary genevieve let's start with you we had classy versus trashy and the time factor
32:13wear the corsets how a classy person would wear it and how a trashy person would wear the corset
32:19she's looking a little bit more older and her younger as well it's more daytime you could see
32:25like somebody in the street wearing this you know a goth punk rock girl and you see that it's really
32:30elegant and so like beautiful and you know like their lifestyle as well it's so like different you
32:35know just on chernette i don't see a ton of tailoring there i don't see a lot of elegance and chernette
32:41this dress it's kind of a masterpiece theater it's very costumey it's not your best work by any means
32:47i could do so much better work so i thought the dress was a disaster i just thought it looked like
32:53a bad bridal boutique and i i just i just didn't get where it came on this runway the goth one on the
32:59other hand i actually love i thought it was like azadeen meets westwood for me it worked i wanted to do
33:04something really opposite of me you know i never wear like black yeah but i think that's where you guys
33:08missed the point it's not what you will be opposite of yours but the opposite of each other on the
33:14theme i mean that i could have seen it in any halloween store if you really have gone the distance
33:20it will really have hit the mark with the trashiness it doesn't say trashy because really in all honesty
33:25goth is not trashy goth is a legitimate look so that's why i wanted you really to go the distance if
33:32you are going that way show me the trash i didn't see the trashy in it it was like goth light
33:39stephen and lucen tell us about your dresses we thought that proportion would be a very smart and
33:44unexpected um theme and so we decided to go with one big evening dress with a lot of flare and very
33:51dramatic and one very slim and fitted also the back has this shingles kind of inspired element of design
33:58which repeats all over the bottom the fullness here although it is a sleek one it kind of echoes
34:05what's going on here also luchin restraint becomes you the details are just the right amount it just
34:11gives it a certain razzle dazzle but in a very restrained way i loved both of these garments by
34:16the way i love the suit and i love the dress and i love the flat shoes i love the bow i thought they were
34:20really really good how do you really feel personally i don't think it's so restrained can we see the back of
34:28it so she's meant to wear this to an office yeah it doesn't scream daytime to me i mean you were
34:34supposed to wear it to my office i can totally see you yes lucian yes did you design both the two dresses
34:45the reason i'm asking and this is just my opinion please i felt like the two dresses were done by lucian
34:52but i'll tell you one thing that i gave it my highest score thank you but i didn't see steven in this
35:00my design ideas are a lot quieter so they don't stand out as much lucian i'm a little bossy and i
35:09apologize are you kidding like i didn't see that coming color shock shock it's kind of my fault it was
35:18a great i loved it though i loved working with lucian if you're in a partnership you have to
35:24believe in your look in your style in your details or lack of details and i feel like what you were just
35:30saying is that you let lucian kind of run the show and then that makes me question your commitment as a
35:36designer carly and megan okay well our theme was hard versus soft so because our styles are so different
35:46she naturally has more of a like a fitted silhouette and i usually do things that are more flowy and
35:51feminine she's this very like done up and hard-edged executive by day and then at night she changes into
35:58a more like softer flowing feminine dress we wanted to sort of make it cohesive so the details like the
36:04flutter sleeve on the dress sort of mimics the flutter in carly's dress and then keeping the color
36:09palette and some of the fabrics the same megan i didn't understand the flutter sleeve at all
36:15carly what what you're thinking about the ruching on the bum i just thought the bottom was a miss
36:20because of the fit okay rita what do you think you say one is sort of hard and one is soft but
36:25they're both quite soft in my mind this is more fitted but they're both sort of pretty dresses but
36:31carly your dress is not a good dress the ruffles the ruching the fabric choice it's just calling for
36:38a complete redo it's not flattering it looks cheap i don't think you intended that well for the budget
36:45that we had i couldn't get silk so that's probably why but in real life i'd probably get silk so but
36:51everyone has the same budget i believe yes exactly it was your choice that you chose that fabric

37:09let's start with steven i love this garment it was the way it moved i felt like he really
37:13bought the garment out i love but the thing is rita that's a lucian dress that was lucian's dress which
37:21and you don't know this ian but it was his dress from the last challenge a shorter version of it a
37:25more voluminous version i mean i hear what they were doing he was trying to do lucian and he did
37:29it pretty well but i don't think he was trying to do lucian i think lucian did both the two dresses
37:34he overpowered the team he was the team he was the team okay so while we're on it how about lucian's
37:41suit i mean i love the suit it was exactly what galliano is doing right now for dior it didn't
37:46strike me as daytime where are you wearing that i swear i would wear it to my office
37:50it was classy and yet sexy at the same time you didn't show a thing but it was sexy it was dead
37:57sexy and it's like i'm a ceo i don't i still want to look like a a woman i don't want to dress like a
38:02man and that suit said i was a woman it accomplished that okay now let's talk about the complete opposite
38:11marie jean biv you hear it mr ian who loved it so much and called it as a dean a liar made god strike
38:19you dead imagine that how could you i just felt like she was bringing it and that was my that's
38:27my whole thing with all of this it's other it's runway this is project runway but we don't want it
38:31to be project runaway no no i thought she actually ran away with the feeling she went the extra mile
38:38and she gave it she gave it up and i liked it with her outfit as with lucian's boom wow something's
38:45happening there too brutus how could he as a dean i loved it what is going on have you all lost your
38:53minds you may not love it but something's happening it was very strong point of view as a counterpoint
