00:00Sabrina 90's show Hilda and Zelda The Teenage Years
00:04Let's Hilda think she has to ask Salem if a sweater makes her look bent.
00:10She doesn't understand why this happened and says that Zelda's clothes used to fit her fine.
00:16She's told that Zelda put a spell on her clothes in case she wore them.
00:20She should have already assumed this.
00:22And Hilda reacts to it in a surprised tone, as if this is the first time she ever did this to her.
00:28How is this the case when they've been living together for centuries and Zelda's not morally perfect?
00:36Hilda's going to be fat for an hour because of this, at least on the higher torso.
00:40Sabrina ends up affected by the spell too, because Salem didn't tell her what would happen for no reason.
00:49Surprisingly, Zelda doesn't instantly say sorry from being shown what she did was wrong.
00:54Hilda tries unsuccessfully to hug Sabrina, and Zelda does it for her.
01:00Harvey tells Sabrina where she can go to get CDs signed at midnight.
01:05Sabrina thinks she has to ask her aunt, even though they previously said she could stay up right until 1.
01:11So she should have just assumed they would say yes and avoid the whole plot.
01:15Libby asks, please, about inviting herself along.
01:21Gordy does too, and Libby tells him off hypocritically for it, and Sabrina says she just said more the merrier.
01:28And Libby accused her of twisting her words.
01:31The dictionary's definition of twisting my words is using them in a way that wasn't originally intended.
01:38So she's lying.
01:39Somehow, the aunts tell her not to go, even though she's a witch, so she can defend herself.
01:47Zelda says she can't go without adult supervision.
01:50And Hilda says that there's a lot of sickos they don't trust.
01:54Zelda says that there's peer pressure.
01:57She's just gonna get some CDs signed.
02:00What's dangerous about standing in a line?
02:04They're reacting as if she's going to a rock concert.
02:07Her aunts take a few seconds, not knowing what to do.
02:11And Sabrina opens the door to her aunts in teenaged, magical disguises.
02:17Zelda sounds the same somehow, and she somehow doesn't instantly recognize her.
02:23Sabrina lampshades this, and Zelda changes the voice too.
02:27Why did Hilda's voice sound like a man at first before she cleared her throat?
02:32Zelda makes some snacks, and Sabrina changes the clothes of Hilda with magic,
02:36and she says that it's cool.
02:39Zelda's relatable to me by saying shocked that her midriff is showing.
02:43Sabrina plans to pretend that her aunts are her cousins.
02:47One of her aunts in the vehicle asks for the music to be turned down because it's hard to take,
02:52even though it's the music of the band they're gonna get their CDs signed by.
02:56Which she could have found out from someone talking about it before it was put on.
03:03The music isn't hard to take at all.
03:06It's got low-energy, sarcastic-sounding singing and music.
03:10She talks like she's hearing heavy metal.
03:13And one of the aunts says 10 and 2 about the driving skills of Harvey.
03:18There's a lot of padding after this.
03:21Libby has a book that has the word magic on it, and one of the aunts is happy about it.
03:26Clearly because she wishes magic was more accepted and believed in despite the consequences due to her isolation as a witch.
03:33Libby dismisses witchcraft as swaddle, but still believes in the advice of a book saying that if you look at a man in a certain way,
03:40he'll have love spell casts on him.
03:42Which would need witchcraft to work.
03:44Libby has her shades on, and when Gordy compliments her, she's grateful.
03:49And somehow she didn't know it was Gordy right away, even though she would have recognized his voice.
03:54Because I'm supposed to believe the commercially sold shades made her blind somehow.
04:01Sabrina was paranoid when she warned Zelda that her accepting the scarf from Gordy meant she wasn't letting him down easy on his crush.
04:08But it ended up being accurate because Gordy wants to be alone with her in the car, just repeatedly praises her even on lame things.
04:18Somehow Hilda thinks that she could convince a cop to let her team cut ahead in line.
04:23Why doesn't she just brainwash him with magic then?
04:26She's not above a lot of things.
04:28She asks for his badge number, and she also somehow is dumb enough to keep whining at him, asking him who he's calling Missy.
04:36Then Zelda wants Sabrina to talk to Gordy for her, and Sabrina has to tell her to let him down gently because she got herself into that situation in the first place.
04:46It makes Zelda look weirdly immature and hypocritical because she's still centuries old, and she needed a 16-year-old to tell her this.
04:54Hilda ends up in the cop car because she stole the cop's badge.
04:58And Hilda denies doing anything to Sabrina, but all she has to do is ask a question, and she shows it to her.
05:05There's another joke where Hilda says soar into the cop without meaning it, and Sabrina tells her to say it like she means it.
05:12At least it's in character for Hilda.
05:15Even in real life, there's plenty of people who never grow up.
05:19Sabrina says she's cold again, and Harvey hugs Sabrina happily from behind, and she enjoys it.
05:24Sabrina says to Libby, watch out manhole making her scream as a prank.
05:29That was nice.
05:31Someone tells Sabrina's team that the store is closed, and Harvey's desperate enough to try to talk some fairness into him, because he'd have to drive these angry ladies back home.
05:41The man says some confusing nonsense mentioning Led Zeppelin and humors them.
05:46Harvey thanks them, and the band members say thanks for coming repeatedly in bored monotone.
05:54I get to enjoy Libby's humiliation.
05:56She at first doesn't even get looked at by him.
06:00Despite how she looks, he has no way of knowing that she's a teenager.
06:04She has to ask him a question about which type of food he likes to get him to look at her in confusion.
06:12Sabrina asks, should we help her out?
06:14Which is in character for the real Sabrina, a goody two-shoes.
06:19And surprisingly, this leads to one of the ants casting a love spell on the band member to get him to sing to her and play music.
06:26Which makes everyone in the room happy.
06:28Not just Libby.
06:30Since Libby was only rarely annoying in this episode, I liked seeing this happen for her.
06:36Libby gets invited to go along with the band members.
06:39She shockingly says that while she's cool with Sabrina and the boys, she's not letting the ants go with them because all they did was wine.
06:47Well, it is reasonable because the ants definitely wouldn't like going with her.
06:53She should say that she's doing them a favor.
06:56And it would work.
06:56The ants stay silent instead of just telling Sabrina, you can go without us, it's fine.
07:02Which would be fine because Sabrina's a witch.
07:05I guess they're furious she'll get peer pressured into drugs.
07:08So that's reasonable.
07:09Except witches should have potions though, it's your drug addiction.
07:13Everyone refuses to go with Libby.
07:15Even though they didn't like the ants either.
07:17Because if Sabrina's not going, they aren't.
07:20The ants return themselves to normal and they scream at what they're wearing because of that.
07:25Hilda apologizes to Sabrina for embarrassing her and Zelda says they owe her some fun.
07:32One of the ants summons a vacuum and Hilda says vacuums are faster and more efficient for flying than fruits.
07:38She has to mean magic vacuums.
07:40Hilda's proud of Sabrina for not buckling to peer pressure and Zelda says sweetly that she called them her friends.
07:50Somehow the ants forgot to tell Sabrina how to land the vacuum.
07:54Luckily it kept it simple because Hilda just told her to use her own magic for it.
07:58And of course they would see it as something that doesn't matter when she could just teleport.
08:03I don't want to see all these other angles.
08:06I want to see her fly from the side like she's flying a broom.
08:09Libby says she thought they were going to party instead of watch kids' cartoons.
08:14Gordon doesn't want to play more songs for her because the spell wore off.
08:17He says Libby needs her eyes checked even though clearly she was just moving her eyes in front of him in an attempt to seduce him.
08:24He must have just been trying to humiliate her.
08:27Libby sees Sabrina fly and wonders if she really does need her eyes checked.
08:32Needing her eyes checked doesn't mean you'll hallucinate one thing while seeing everything else just fine.
08:37Besides the previous episode says she wears contacts already.
08:40So what she means is she needs new contacts.
08:42Multiple episodes get written by the same person so it's not like continuity should be out of the question to expect.
08:50The story ends with Hilda hoping that Gordy still had a crutch on her because of her ego.
08:55But all he said was that he wants a scarf back.
08:58It's too bad the show frames it like she's a teenager hoping that a guy likes her back.
09:03Because that made people uncomfortable from taking this in bad faith by seeing it from an easily abandoned modern perspective.
09:09That would misinterpret her based on this one measly time.
09:14It's just meant as a joke about how she's desperate for any male attention because of her ego and loneliness.
09:19It wouldn't be the first time absurdist humor happened for the sake of it on the show.
09:24The sheer fact that a rock band watches cartoons with a groupie expecting her to be cool with it in the first place.
09:29There are a lot of people in the world who have unexpected other personality traits considering their identity.
09:34So maybe it's possible.
09:36But it's more likely that it only happens because a love spell included this to protect Libby from a drug or alcohol addiction.
09:42Since the aunts were already nice enough to use a love spell for her.
09:46That didn't even lead to kissing or teasing from the friends of the affected band member.
09:50So it's fine.
09:51This story by Nell Scovell, a previous writer by the way.
09:56It's about Sabrina's aunts going with Sabrina and her friends on a confusingly midnight trip to get CDs signed by a rock band.
10:04Because her aunts somehow got paranoid that she'd be pressured into an addiction just because of that without their supervision.
10:11It's annoying that they got so overprotective.
10:14Especially since the source material had them be the opposite way.
10:17But it's sweet that they let her go at all because I was just remembering the versions of her aunts after the show who wouldn't even be this nice.
10:25It's weird that they went from acting like responsible spoil sports and teenage bodies to acting even more emotional and stupid and selfish than Sabrina.
10:34Making her the one to mom them for a change.
10:37They're still over a thousand years old.
10:40But since they've been selfish or abused their powers before,
10:43I can't even say it's out of character just because it makes them hypocrites.
10:47Which Hilda already is every time she tries to impart morality into Sabrina.
10:52Despite Zelda having to let Gordy down gently and Hilda stealing a badge from a cop,
10:57and somehow Sabrina didn't have to brainwash to get the cop to let Hilda walk away from MF that,
11:03everything worked out for the best for Sabrina's team.
11:06The writing was mostly believable.
11:08It was still about the consequences of magic use.
11:10But only in the sense that Gordy liked Zelda's new look.
11:15Like he'd like the look of any pretty girl anyway.
11:18And as Sabrina refused to buckle to peer pressure and tried to banter her aunts.
11:23Well, Libby doesn't like her time with the rock band, so Sabrina dodged a bullet.
11:27So it technically depicted consequences of buckling to peer pressure.
11:30Just not in a way that matched reality.
11:34So it doesn't make for a very convincing way of teaching the lesson.
11:37Which feels more like,
11:39if you buckle to peer pressure,
11:40you'll have to sit around bored watching a silly cartoon with some of your favorite rock band members.
11:46Which for some people wouldn't even be a problem.
11:49The episode was fine.
11:51Because the only problem is that the answer was being rude.
11:54Which was written intentionally to keep the story from being boring.
11:56And most of the rudeness was just not that big a deal.
12:01And the only one that was that big a deal was to someone we didn't even know.
