00:00Sabrina Nighty's show, A Dull Story.
00:04Hilda slurps soup, and Zelda says that she knows it annoys her.
00:08Her saying sorry makes me wonder why she slurped.
00:12Because Hilda annoys her on purpose,
00:15Zelda uses magic to make some car alarm noise to spite her,
00:19and Hilda creates a balloon to make some annoying noise,
00:22and then a chalkboard zapped up,
00:24and Salem dreads the idea of being forced to scratch on it,
00:27which looks especially mean because he's a cat.
00:31The only thing good about this is the amount of creativity it has from the variety of spells,
00:36and the fact that it is funny how Salem reacted.
00:41But I feel sorry for them all,
00:42and it just reminded me that they aren't nearly as quick to fight with each other in the source material.
00:48They're bickering what's exaggerated,
00:50though I see why because they contrast each other more than ever now.
00:55Thankfully, Sabrina tells them to stop,
00:57but when she slurps, they want to get back at her.
01:01It turns out the ants are going to spend some time apart because they get on each other's nerves.
01:07So them bickering too much was for a narrative reason.
01:10Good.
01:11It turns out they plan on going to the same spa,
01:14but they'll be in separate rooms.
01:17Sabrina finds out she's being offered $100 to babysit her evil cousin Amanda.
01:22Somehow she thinks she'd be able to handle her,
01:26even though the last time she was with her, she got shrunken and trapped in a bottle.
01:31And for some reason, she kind of just instantly undo the spell.
01:35And with no indication that she's learned to undo spells lately,
01:39she's got no reason to think she'll be able to handle her.
01:44To be fair, if she's going to get the hundred bucks no matter what happens during the babysitting,
01:49who cares if she spends the whole time shrunken in a bottle?
01:53I get the appeal of money for it first, but she can zap up a gold brick whenever.
01:59Zelda warns her that this is a bad idea because she's less powerful than Amanda.
02:04And even though she just warned her not to babysit her and said she doesn't need $100,
02:09she still lets her put herself through hell.
02:13I'd expect her to be more considerate and overprotective of her when she was just being like that seconds ago.
02:19We already saw what it'd be like for her to babysit her.
02:23This plot's pointless and sadistic.
02:26Sabrina gets a joker smile put on her face and gets told Amanda did that to her from the other realm,
02:32implying that half-witches can't do that.
02:36So, half-witches can't teleport things to other places from another universe,
02:41even though all they'd need to do would be to make a portal and send the spell through it.
02:46And Sabrina has teleportation powers already.
02:48I get her having less of an ability to send as much magical power out of her, though.
02:55It'd just require more power to make a portal to another world.
02:59Why does a flight attendant bring her here?
03:01I didn't know she was from a rich family.
03:05And if she is, why not hire a nanny instead?
03:08She says she's quitting today.
03:10So that explains why she doesn't babysit her.
03:13And why a nanny isn't hired, because she'd quit too.
03:16Amanda picked something up Harvey gave her, and Sabrina's worried about it getting damaged,
03:23and all she does is move it away from her instead of warping it away.
03:27And why doesn't she use a power outage spell on her so this whole story wouldn't happen?
03:34No one would be this stupid.
03:36Hilda was right there minutes ago.
03:39Why didn't she cast a power outage spell on Amanda?
03:43I guess she wanted to punish her for being dumb enough to agree to babysit her.
03:48Zelda would have cast the spell on her, though.
03:51Amanda somehow doesn't just warp the thing to her,
03:54and she thinks it's powerful enough to bring it all the way to her,
03:58even though she was implied to be more powerful than her.
04:01When it does get broken,
04:03her response implies that she somehow isn't aware that she could just fix it with magic.
04:09She acts like it's just stuck this way.
04:12After Amanda turns Salem big briefly for fun,
04:16the ants find out they're being expected to be in the same room
04:19because they assumed they were married because of the same last name they shared.
04:23It's impressive that they were allowed to reference this in a late 90s show for kids.
04:29The witches are more progressive than I expected from their opinion of mortals.
04:34It turns out Sabrina's been playing checkers with Amanda for hours,
04:37so she's tired.
04:39She turns on the TV and sees her whining on it.
04:42Then Valerie shows up at her house unannounced and says they could go to a party.
04:47There's more jokes at her expense because she says they didn't tell her not to go to the party
04:52so she can come there,
04:54and she doesn't want to go to another party alone.
04:58Why doesn't Sabrina tell Valerie to go home?
05:01All she did was ask her blood type.
05:04The ants end up both ordering the essential honey dip.
05:08It would have been more interesting to actually see them in it, but we never do.
05:11There's one of the most memorable jokes in the show,
05:15as in I still remember it,
05:17where somehow Amanda thinks she'll be believed when she tells a mortal she's from the other realm,
05:22and when told a lie, she calls her delusional.
05:26Even though she's so ignorant about the mortal realm,
05:29for all she knows, Valerie actually could be from Never Never Land.
05:34Harvey invites Valerie to a party,
05:37and she's excited at getting first word about it,
05:39which confused me because if this is the same party she mentioned earlier,
05:43then she didn't get first word on it on purpose anyways.
05:47And Valerie calls herself delusional for hoping she's getting more popular.
05:52Amanda wishes she could go to the party,
05:54and steam comes out of her ears without anyone seeing it.
05:57And she lets them leave without her,
05:59which is pretty convenient.
06:02Sabrina asks her if she has a doll to play with,
06:05and gets turned into a doll,
06:07and Salem's been given a costume.
06:11It's frustrating because she could have easily just zapped up a doll for her.
06:15And the story doesn't explain why Sabrina doesn't turn herself back to normal.
06:20I just have to assume she's had her spell locked,
06:23which is so overpowered for a little girl.
06:27She's put into the box with a bunch of other people who upset her without intending to.
06:31It turns out there's a facialist who has to have her appointments booked 50 years in advance.
06:38So the two ants want to take the facial.
06:41I'm guessing the only way you can get a facial as good as the one she gives you
06:46is by going to her because she has special potion ingredients that can do that.
06:50So it's impossible to just visualize the facial to give it to yourself.
06:56Because otherwise they'd be complete idiots for wanting to get the facial instead of using magic for it.
07:02Zelda tells Hilda that if one of them gets the appointment,
07:05the other will always hate her sister for getting it.
07:08Somehow she didn't realize that this only makes Hilda mad at her for forbidding her from getting the facial.
07:14The woman in the box talks as if she isn't one of the new ones.
07:18And yet the guy who used to be her ice cream truck driver tells her not to talk to him.
07:23So he talks like he's new because he didn't expect her to say this to him.
07:28And had no apparent reason to be opposed to her doing that.
07:32I'm expected to believe one of them was able to eat a penny.
07:36Somehow the people in the box still think they're never going to get turned back to normal.
07:41Even though Amanda shrunk someone whose ants are going to come home pretty soon expecting to see her again.
07:45So they're going to find them along with her and turn them back to normal.
07:50But somehow she doesn't think to mention this in her pep talk to them.
07:54Why did she think she'd cheer them up by saying superheroes don't whine when he never wanted to be dressed like one?
08:01Why did she think she can call her ants with a telephone from here?
08:05The quiz master comes here and somehow he isn't going to plan on fraying her.
08:10When he refuses to help her because he wants to test her intelligence,
08:14she jumps on his back, which is satisfying.
08:18Sadly it doesn't work and he says that her test is to get herself out of this box.
08:23So wait, does that mean if she fails she'll lose her powers?
08:29The ants end up in a better mood and there's a montage where Sabrina and the others work on her way to escape.
08:36Why did it take a teenage girl showing up for this plan to be come up with
08:40when there's nothing but adults who are way smarter than her in the room?
08:44She was nothing but seriously stupid the entire story.
08:47You can't expect me to buy that intelligence is one of her traits now.
08:53Amanda opens the box and sees the people in it cheering and she sees a new toy.
08:58Why isn't she suspicious of the idea that the people she trapped in a box
09:01would ever give her a new toy she'd actually appreciate?
09:05Well it wouldn't be so bad if the people there said
09:07we hope you'll turn us back to normal after this.
09:11It would make more sense if she explained that they try to offer new toys they made all the time as brimes.
09:16So she's let her guard down here.
09:19But why wouldn't she assume Sabrina's hiding in that box?
09:23Sabrina's not with the rest of them and the same logic for the rest of them bribing her would apply to Sabrina doing that.
09:30Somehow she falls for a trick.
09:33Taking the box out and growing it.
09:35Which conveniently undoes what must have included a power outage spell on Sabrina as well.
09:41And a spell where she's dressed like a doll.
09:43She didn't cast a spell to undo all of the effects on her.
09:47But somehow Sabrina's able to use magic now.
09:50And somehow she can overpower her this time and get a finger trap put on her finger.
09:56And somehow that makes her stop being a threat
09:58even though logically nothing should stop her from using any of her other fingers for magic.
10:03Didn't I say spells get cast in other ways than just pointing in this show before?
10:10It's needlessly hard to watch that we see the facialist literally holding a face which looks like a mask.
10:17How did this make it into a kids show?
10:19When Hilda finds out the appointment's been taken
10:22somehow she doesn't instantly figure out it was Hilda who was there.
10:27And yet she does seconds later.
10:30Then what would really happen would be that she would leave before finding out it was Zelda.
10:35Zelda says she's ashamed but since Hilda was mad at her anyways she had no reason not to take it.
10:44Hilda throws her face and says she ruined her facial.
10:47But it doesn't look like she caused her any problem.
10:50And I'm just wondering why the facialist isn't in the room to protect her.
10:55Won't you at least hear her from the other room?
10:58Why is she trying to find and pick up her face with her body?
11:01Instead of just pointing to zap the face back onto her body
11:05without it actually having any damage done to it.
11:09That's not even getting into how confusing it is that she survives this.
11:14Of course a painkiller spell would have been cast on her so I'm not wondering why she isn't in pain.
11:18But like why would she have to take off the face
11:23when she's not going to want the back of her face to have any improvements done to it.
11:30Why is Amanda turning the other person from her box back to normal?
11:34Only Sabrina would do that.
11:36This is so overpowered Amanda could turn Drell into a frog
11:40and technically nobody would be able to force her to undo the spell.
11:44We should have seen Sabrina threaten to use magic on Amanda
11:47the instant she tried to do anything she didn't want after removing the finger trunk.
11:53Of course it's nice to see people thankful for getting turned back to normal.
11:58Sabrina threatens to put the finger trunk back on Amanda's finger to get her to say sorry.
12:03Even though it's obvious it's a waste of time
12:05because of course she's not actually going to mean it
12:07and isn't going to say it like she means it.
12:11The hairdresser is asked out and says of course
12:13but then turns him down rudely.
12:17That was unnecessary.
12:18The joke would have actually landed if we had more of a reason to hate this guy.
12:23We're supposed to think he deserves this just because he was depressed about the situation
12:27but you would be depressed too in this situation.
12:31All of them would have been reported dead by now.
12:34They would have lost their homes.
12:36Their lives would be in shambles by now.
12:39At least the ice cream salesman would have that problem anyways
12:42because he said he's going to miss that winter nap
12:44after he let Sabrina have a quick hug.
12:48Why would part of the spell that made him dress like a teddy bear make him hibernate too?
12:52That wouldn't let her play with them.
12:54They all go into the other realm closet
12:56so it turns out they weren't mortals.
12:59So I guess the reason they weren't warped back home
13:03by one of their loved ones a long time ago
13:05is that they were completely immune to magic
13:08when they're in the form that she turned them into.
13:12And it turns out Amanda's sleeping in the bunks.
13:16The ants give each other notes that say sorry.
13:19And Zelda wants to go on vacation.
13:22But Hilda says she wants to go to the same place.
13:25Zelda should have known better at this point
13:27than to tell her where she's going.
13:30Well I guess her logic was
13:31if I don't tell Hilda where I'm going
13:34then I'm going to accidentally book the same place she went to.
13:39Amanda demands some water.
13:41And Sabrina pours it on her.
13:43And surprisingly she just thanks her while gurgling it.
13:47It would have been even more satisfying
13:49if I actually saw Amanda get the water splashed on her directly.
13:52Maybe if they didn't show Salem be a big cat for no reason
13:58they would have had the money to show Amanda
14:00getting splashed with a huge cup of water.
14:04I guess they're just not very efficient
14:06about what they spend their budget on.
14:09Because of Amanda's humiliation
14:11Salem says he loves a happy ending.
14:14Which is relatable to us.
14:16And it's hard to wonder why Sabrina didn't think
14:18to shrink Amanda the very second her ants left.
14:21Because that's what she did to her.
14:25If she did the same thing she did to her
14:26none of the plot would have happened.
14:29This frustrating story by Carrie Honigblum
14:32and Renee Phillips
14:34them being the same people who wrote
14:37Sabrina Gets Her License Part 2
14:39was about Sabrina agreeing to babysit Amanda
14:42which Zelda confusingly lets her do
14:45despite her being strict
14:46and not wanting her to deal with her.
14:49And Zelda could have just
14:50zapped up a gold brick
14:51and told her how to spend it.
14:54It's so annoying that Sabrina didn't plan
14:56to do the common sense thing
14:58of casting the same spell on Amanda
15:00that she did on her last time.
15:03Which would have prevented her
15:04from being made a doll
15:05trapped with a bunch of other people
15:07she cursed in a toy box.
15:10The last part of it was the only point
15:12to Amanda coming back
15:14because otherwise she didn't do anything new
15:16to Sabrina.
15:18It was kind of satisfying
15:19to see her get out of this situation.
15:21But when I thought about it
15:23it didn't make any sense
15:24that it worked out.
15:26The whole episode had her
15:27as impossibly stupid before.
15:30But now she's come up with a plan
15:31none of the other people had tried.
15:34Even though it turns out
15:35they're all witches
15:36so some of them probably
15:37would be centuries old.
15:40How did they not come up with this?
15:42And there's no reason
15:43that just the growth spell
15:44would have also undone
15:46the spell on Sabrina
15:46that made her a powerless
15:48drunken person
15:49dressed like a doll.
15:51And the ants had a subplot
15:52that was annoying
15:53because it was them
15:54annoying each other
15:54and it was so predictable
15:56how it was going to go.
15:58They just imitated each other
15:59like they already did
16:00in the first place.
16:03I was only surprised
16:04by the edgy facial scene.
