00:00Sabrina Nae's show, Third Ant from the Sun.
00:04It starts with Zelda telling Sabrina no to getting her belly button pierced, even though she might be happy with it in the long run.
00:11Sabrina could use magic for this.
00:14So the reason she won't has to be her assumption that she'll eventually forget to temporarily zap away the piercing and reveal to her by accident.
00:22Which would cause Zelda to punish her.
00:25Same reason she didn't warp away from her family reunion.
00:29Even Hilda disapproves of the idea, despite being the fun one, and assumes she'll regret it.
00:35Somehow, she says she had to wait years to get rid of a tattoo, even though witches can alter the way stuff looks.
00:43So she would have removed it herself instantly.
00:46She already lied about where the tattoo was, so logically she's lying about this in general.
00:53Sabrina would definitely question this.
00:55Witches can just zap up tattoos.
01:00So it's not like she just got a tattoo from a tattoo witch who had enchanted so that you have to get a tattoo removal because capitalism.
01:09Then Zelda magically summons a bone in her nose to punish her.
01:15And somehow she thinks she has to ask her aunt to get rid of the bone.
01:19If any witch could lock their spells, that'd be really dangerous.
01:24Jenny says her parents are really lenient with her, which makes it too hard for her to rebel.
01:29So Sabrina's lucky she has annoyingly strict aunts for this one episode so far.
01:36The teacher ends up getting very itchy, so he runs out of the room and is replaced by a teacher who mentions moisturizer in science class.
01:44So Sabrina somehow asks what moisturizer has to do with science, even though you need science to make it.
01:51She does a science lecture that has her say what's probably nonsense since she says to forget everything she said.
02:00The classroom leaves and the teacher tells Sabrina to stay.
02:03She expects her to recognize her.
02:07That alone was somehow expected to make her recognize her aunt Vesta.
02:12And she uses magic to have just a different outfit.
02:16I love that she has a at the end of her name.
02:19And the same amount of syllables as Hilda and Zelda.
02:23So it feels right that she's their sister out of nowhere.
02:26I have to assume the reason she took so long to reconnect with her was that she was so busy partying,
02:31she never checked up on her sister's witch social media posts because she thinks they're boring.
02:37But still occasionally checked on them because they're family.
02:41Sabrina says she needs to get to class, but the teacher stops her and warps her to Paris,
02:46where there's already a table ready for her with a big bowl of coffee.
02:50So she'll get in trouble for being late.
02:53I hope her coffee makes up for it.
02:55I guess she already had the table reserved for them ahead of time.
02:59I guess it's another realm place, so she doesn't care about the cameras in restaurants
03:02that would have caught them warping here.
03:05Or she already plans to remove camera footage from it.
03:09Sabrina says that the weirdest thing is that she missed French class to be here.
03:13She sadly doesn't explain what her weirdest thing is.
03:17And perfectly imitates the voices of her sisters and predicts what Zelda told her not to do,
03:22which is justified because she used to live with them for 200 years.
03:26Vesta reveals her bigotry against mortals in a calm way and gets reminded that Sabrina's half-mortal,
03:32and she says there's nothing wrong with that.
03:34It's trying to use this to foreshadow that she's not worth it,
03:37but Hilda was willing to slice up Libby when she was a pineapple,
03:40and Zelda didn't hold it against her, so she's not alone in this.
03:43This episode comes off like the writer didn't watch the previous episodes,
03:48because I don't know where he's getting the idea that it would answer strict.
03:52Vesta's smart enough to lie in a clever way that she gave her teacher a bug,
03:57and really has to defend himself from a giant bug in his bathroom because Vesta's evil.
04:02But he's supposed to be in the school.
04:04She must have warped him home and he convinced himself he only dreamed going to school,
04:08and slept in.
04:09It's actually cool of him to fight back against a giant bug.
04:14Vesta's smart enough to live in the pleasure dome of the other realm.
04:19I guess the reason Sabrina's not afraid of her aunts when she goes home after ditching all of her classes for the day
04:24is that she thinks Vesta would protect her,
04:27and when she leaves, they won't be mad anymore because it was Vesta's fault.
04:31And the aunts lecture Vesta, who asks if anything ever changes here.
04:36Hilda uses magic to summon furniture.
04:39Which reminds me,
04:41I forgot to mention that the aunts are trying to decide how to change the look of the furniture.
04:45Vesta asks the aunts if they have fun here,
04:48and Hilda says they do now, but not how,
04:50which proves Vesta right.
04:52Does the writer know what he's doing?
04:55Does the show with Hilda?
04:57Because Hilda was always the fun one.
05:00It just wasn't the type of fun that Sabrina approved of.
05:04Zelda says she was invited to Texas for a science meeting for the weekend,
05:08because apparently she has an off-screen job we don't know about.
05:12And Hilda just got invited to a music concert to play it.
05:16So Vesta offers to babysit Sabrina at the pleasure dome instead of at their house.
05:20I guess the reason the aunts didn't demand to have her stay at the house is that they thought she wouldn't agree to it.
05:26It's so sympathetic of Sabrina that she says that she wants to go to the pleasure dome,
05:29but is afraid that if she's too enthusiastic, they won't let her.
05:32Of course there's a no-mortals role in the pleasure dome.
05:37Why bother putting it here?
05:39It's just because they hate mortals.
05:41But naturally, Sabrina overlooks it because it's a fun place where just one door shows you a dance room
05:46where in an amazing coincidence they're playing the exact song Sabrina liked in the morning.
05:51And in the second door, they see an audience cheering and complimenting her,
05:54even though it's fake, so who cares?
05:56Zelda finds out there was no theoretical physics conference, which is more believable.
06:01And Hilda was stuck in a music band playing at a loud place.
06:07Zelda warns her that Vesta tricked them.
06:09And Vesta convinces Sabrina to stop doing homework and naturally asks why she can't have fun all the time.
06:16Sadly, Sabrina doesn't get to argue that if you do, you'll feel unfulfilled.
06:20Which would make this a valuable lesson for adults,
06:23not just teens who of course need to do homework if they're bad at school
06:27so they'll do tests well and be able to get a good job.
06:30Which is the message we're supposed to be getting.
06:33But how are we supposed to be getting it if it's not explained?
06:36And she's not ever shown in this episode to fail a test because of the Pleasure Dome, by the way.
06:43I guess the writer thinks that just because Sabrina's a teen,
06:45she's too stupid to think to tell her the reasons why he can't have fun all the time.
06:49And that's why he didn't have her say that.
06:51Eventually, Sabrina somehow gets given the choice about whether she can stay here with Vesta or not.
06:58Even though they're supposedly strict ants.
07:01Hilda says they can't just leave her.
07:03And Zelda says it's because she has a hunch.
07:06Sabrina feels guilty.
07:07And Zelda says that if they tell Sabrina she can't stay, she'll be playing to Vesta's game.
07:12And she thinks she'll come home if she's given the chance to change her mind.
07:17But Sabrina showed no indication around them at any point in the show that she was responsible enough to value getting all of her homework done.
07:27She showed no career aspirations in front of them.
07:30I guess we're supposed to assume that she did off-screen.
07:32Vesta likes a massage and magically takes the place of the masseuse and says this is relaxing.
07:40Which must be because she likes doing good.
07:42Which means she feels unfulfilled and empty about just having fun all day and not doing good.
07:48I guess this was unintentional of the writer.
07:51Because this kind of thing only happens once.
07:54Too bad, because it could have added depth to her character if she explained it.
07:58And actually gotten the message across.
08:00Jenny's able to call Sabrina because her aunts gave it to her.
08:04And she says she has the weirdest 17-digit area code.
08:09Vesta tries to reassure Sabrina about not being able to hang out with Jenny.
08:13By showing her a puppy.
08:14Which doesn't help her.
08:16Sabrina says that if she stays here, she won't be able to see her friends again.
08:20Even though she can just warp to them.
08:23Vesta reassures her that she'll be able to see her loved ones again whenever with the TV.
08:27So she sees her aunts having fun playing an old game together.
08:32What makes her think she won't want to hug them because she's seeing them?
08:37Like how's that supposed to be good enough?
08:39I guess she doesn't like any of her family.
08:42Salem's singing the same song Sabrina liked.
08:44I guess because it's playing too much on the radio.
08:47Harvey's doing the same while jumping on the bed.
08:50And Jenny's reading a book bored.
08:52And while Sabrina fortunately pities her,
08:54Vesta's hopefully just surprising her pity for her by saying she's pathetic.
08:58Sabrina's told she looks fabulous.
09:00But her boots are killing her.
09:02And Vesta encourages her to have fun dancing with some dancers and singing a song that's probably made up for the show.
09:08Because it only plays the chorus and is done so much.
09:11And sounds silly.
09:12Whammy fammy.
09:13Mr. Poole was right to make fun of it.
09:16It's such a restrictive dance that if she has to stay on that one tiny spot that's higher up than the floor,
09:22she's gonna risk falling.
09:24She feels bad enough to end the song because she misses Jenny.
09:28Vesta says she'd be so lonely without her.
09:31But that's not enough to have her agree to live with her aunts of course.
09:34She zaps up her bag and they hug and she lets her leave.
09:38I like that the show doesn't vilify her as much as possible.
09:41She opens the door to the cheering people and says so empty.
09:46But it works.
09:47What a mixed message.
09:50Realistically her aunts did hear Sabrina from the other room.
09:53Sabrina's asked if she liked her time with Vesta.
09:56She hugs them and Hilda says she can go to Jenny but can't stay up past one.
10:01That's still a long time she gets to stay up.
10:04Past the point of healthiness.
10:05When you're a teenager, because of the way your brain works, you need to get to bed early more than ever.
10:12Because you're gonna be tired and cranky in the morning.
10:17She's magically given new clothes and thanks her aunts for not making a big deal out of this.
10:23She leaves and they do.
10:25And the teacher gets to look cool fighting some bug.
10:29So I am fine with action scenes in Sabrina.
10:31As long as it's not the main characters doing it.
10:35Because that never happens in the source material.
10:39And also it's supposed to be funny.
10:41So it's still keeping the point of the series.
10:44Then he wakes up on the floor and says what a dream.
10:48I guess the spell wore off after enough time had passed.
10:51Make him only think it was a dream.
10:53Because Vesta was surprisingly paranoid enough to try to make sure witchcraft wasn't revealed.
10:58Even though he could have just assumed it was a demon.
11:00And no one would believe him.
11:02And any photo or video of it would be called fake.
11:06This story by Nick Bacay was about Sabrina spending time with her fun aunt Vesta.
11:10Because she's fun and Vesta's lonely.
11:13And somebody forgot to tell the writers and showrunners that Hilda's supposed to be fun.
11:19Not literally this fun though.
11:21And after briefly deciding to live with her in the Pleasure Dome.
11:25She decided to go home because she somehow wouldn't be able to see her friends again if she didn't.
11:31Even though she should be able to warp back home to keep going back to school every day.
11:35So the place has to be enchanted against warping out of it for no reason to contrive the story ending.
11:41Or she just believed a lie of Vesta's about that.
11:44But while the Pleasure Dome actually forbid you from regularly going to school.
11:49When Sabrina and the ants were still allowed to visit it like it was nothing.
11:53I like that the story didn't try as hard as possible to vilify Vesta.
11:57While she's clearly meant to be a bad influence because she pressures her not to do homework in favor of having fun.
12:04It's not because she wants to sabotage her life.
12:06She's trying to help her become happier.
12:10And a lot of the time it is good to take her advice that you should try to focus on the fun in life.
12:15Another way it didn't vilify her is that we didn't see her fail a test because of her.
12:20But people like me can't just do what they like most with all their free time after they grow up.
12:25Because they'll feel guilty for not doing something more with it.
12:29And it's not explained that that's why Sabrina decides to leave.
12:33So it doesn't properly get the message across.
12:36It would make more sense if she was missing her ants the most.
12:40And that's why she wanted to leave.
12:43Most people including me would have walked away from this thinking that the only reason Sabrina was justified in leaving was that she was being pressured not to do homework.
12:51So you have to assume because she's the average girl that she needs homework to test well.
12:55But after she decided to stay it didn't matter anymore because she wouldn't have been able to keep going to school anyway apparently if she stayed.
13:02So the story should have explained that Sabrina's got a specific career aspiration that she won't get to fulfill otherwise.
13:09Instead of her looking like an idiot if you don't think about that.
13:12It doesn't clearly tell her that she's got a bright future and she'll give up if she stays there.
13:17But anyone would assume that.
13:18But anyone who was against the message of the episode the whole time would think because of Vesta's logic that it'd be worth giving up going to high school with Harvey in exchange for a life of constant fun.
13:28That she could just zap up a Harvey.
13:30Sabrina never explains that she feels like the fun is hollow after a while.
13:34Like I was expecting.
13:36Which would have taught the lesson right.
13:38She doesn't zap up a fake Jenny and realize that it doesn't feel right.
13:42It's a good episode because it's fun to see her have fun so much.
13:47And it still portrays Vesta as human even if she's evil sometimes.
13:52We could all use a little Vesta in us.
13:54Vesta doesn't really get a chance to argue her points eloquently either.
13:58She doesn't say that it's good self-care mentally to have fun a lot and you'll be depressed eventually if you go too far in the other direction.
14:06I guess she's not that eloquent.
14:07It never explains why Sabrina doesn't keep visiting the Pleasure Dome every day after this point.
