00:00Sabrina Nighty's show, Dream Date.
00:04Sabrina somehow thinks when she tells Zelda DMI and she'll know to leave her alone for a call with Harvey,
00:10even though people wouldn't hear the whole conversation anyway.
00:14You'd think Harvey would have heard Salem the whole time.
00:18Having her hand over the phone does nothing.
00:20Sabrina grew up not knowing the painting was haunted, or whatever this is.
00:25Even we forget to keep that in mind.
00:27So it makes sense that she didn't anticipate that she was listening.
00:32Eventually Harvey tells Sabrina that dances aren't his thing.
00:35When Libby says she was thinking they could go to it together, he clearly panics and says okay.
00:41And at least he explains that to her.
00:44Sabrina could have easily avoided this by just asking him out.
00:48But I guess it makes sense what her excuse was.
00:51She doesn't want to overcomplicate the friendship.
00:54She ends up talking with her aunts about it.
00:56And Zelda ends up telling her that it'll never figure out she likes them if she's too subtle.
01:02Shockingly, Sabrina considers a love spell.
01:04But she can't find one in the book.
01:07Eventually, Hilda says love's too weird.
01:11At least, there aren't love spells in the book.
01:13That makes more sense.
01:14I wish it was explained that Hilda's lying.
01:19It's not that love's too weird.
01:20That's ridiculous.
01:21It's that it wouldn't be legal.
01:24I like that Zelda called the dance the ball.
01:27And that Hilda raced her to the kitchen and says,
01:30Beat you.
01:31And that Salem says,
01:32Do you mind?
01:33And I'm busy staring into space.
01:36Hilda spends all this time making a dream date for Sabrina out of dough.
01:40And they have to use specific potion ingredients for the personality glaze.
01:45Of course, they'd prefer to use potion ingredients for it instead of doing the work of picturing a person.
01:51Who they'd hardly get to put any thought into the personality of.
01:55Despite Sabrina saying she's not going.
01:58The ants thankfully don't lose their enthusiasm.
02:02And realistically, all Sabrina has to do is look at the guy and want to go with him.
02:07And she's happy because he's enthusiastic.
02:10Although it immediately starts to annoy and embarrass Sabrina at the dance.
02:13As she asks him to keep it down.
02:16This was because Hilda accidentally overdid the enthusiasm.
02:19So because it's an accident, that makes sense.
02:22And it makes sense that it wasn't undone.
02:24Because Zelda said they're going to a high school dance.
02:27So he's going to need all the enthusiasm possible.
02:30It's forgivable.
02:31They underestimated how bad this could go.
02:34He says he loves this song and I agree.
02:37I'm glad when he dances she enjoys it.
02:40Harvey arrives late because there was engine trouble.
02:43The name Chad Corey Dillon is really obviously fake.
02:47And somehow no one, not even Libby, mentions it.
02:50But I like that Harvey tells Libby he doesn't dance.
02:53Instead of just saying he doesn't know how.
02:56And he doesn't relent on it in the same scene.
02:59I get to see her say she can't believe he did that to her.
03:03So Sabrina looks at Harvey alone, sadly.
03:05But since he doesn't dance, she wouldn't have had a good time with him anyway.
03:10As soon as Hilda makes her dream date and greets him.
03:13He tells her to get off his back about getting a job.
03:16Even though she didn't mention it.
03:18So that's impossible.
03:21Hilda asks to check the expiration date on the Hope Liquid and sees the words Hope Fades.
03:27Hilda asks her if she wants to start over.
03:30And after briefly agreeing, Hilda plans on trying to change her since she likes a challenge.
03:36Lots of people do.
03:37Since witches really can make a convincing person, it's a shame these two are too stupid to do this to bring a boyfriend to their family reunion.
03:46It could have avoided all the bullying they received for being single.
03:50Sabrina tells Harvey he smells okay and he's fine with it.
03:54He ends up telling her that he gets self-conscious in front of people when he dances.
03:58That's completely different from comic Harvey.
04:03He has his own unique appeal.
04:05Hilda's subplot looks pathetic.
04:09At least Zelda gets to have fun.
04:11She says she's never seen a man drink so much milk.
04:14And he says he likes milk.
04:17Libby lampshades to Harvey cathartically that...
04:20I don't know why he didn't just say no.
04:22But it's so cathartic that she's going through this because she knows Sabrina's into him.
04:27At least I assume so.
04:29She can tell what expressions and tones indicate.
04:34So it's entirely on her for not just saying,
04:38Forget it, I'll ask someone else.
04:40He ends up saying,
04:41I don't tell many people this, but sadly she leaves before he could.
04:46Harvey's jealous of the dream date being able to play the lead guitar.
04:49Which has to be why he's privately rude about it.
04:52At least he can play the bassoon.
04:54So his jealousy explains wanting to go up to her.
04:58He finally feels like a real person.
05:01Sabrina just has to point to make him a wonderful dancer.
05:05So her magic knows what to do.
05:06It just accesses his information.
05:08Or maybe he's doing a routine that she saw on TV once.
05:12With all the time this is taking,
05:14I have the time to mention,
05:15I kind of like that they called her dream date Chad.
05:18Completely oblivious to the fact that later on,
05:21That name would be used to mean the ideal man.
05:24Harvey gets embarrassed after the wonderful spectacle of his dance in front of a whole school.
05:30I like that he tells Libby no.
05:32And that he sits just outside the school,
05:34So Sabrina can talk to him.
05:36Sabrina beats around the bush a little.
05:39And cowardly frees them in time before opening up to him.
05:41Eventually she says that for now,
05:44This is the closest she can get to saying she likes him a lot to his face.
05:48So instead she just tells him Chad isn't perfect.
05:51Which she already should have assumed by her attitude.
05:54Looking for her,
05:55He asks for a dance outside.
05:57And it's heartwarming.
05:59Surprisingly it turns out the nice music was in Universe as well,
06:03Because she comments on it.
06:04He then offers to go to the Slicery and play foodsball,
06:08And she happily agrees.
06:10When she goes inside,
06:11He says he likes her,
06:12And wishes he could say it to her face.
06:15That's completely inaccurate to the Harvey from the source material,
06:18Who if anything was a ladies man.
06:21So this just makes the audience sad,
06:23To pointlessly drag out them getting together.
06:26Which means it's not a good change.
06:28And it's literally worthless.
06:30Especially since they're not going to be together nearly as long as the fans wanted anyways.
06:36So it should have happened earlier.
06:39It would have been an uproar if they called them a different name than Harving.
06:43But there's no reason to not actually use Harving.
06:48In a way,
06:48It is good that they didn't end up dating,
06:50Because it teaches the message properly.
06:54They should have just told each other.
06:56This is why having a message,
06:58Gets in the way of good Sabrina stories sometimes.
07:03When Sabrina foolishly tells Chad,
07:05She likes Harvey instead,
07:06When that could have made him furious out of nowhere,
07:08Considering how much magic goes wrong,
07:10To try to teach her a lesson.
07:13He just says happily that it's a great choice,
07:15Because he's a great guy.
07:17That he barely knows.
07:18Well,
07:18He is overly enthusiastic.
07:20He says he wants to dance with Libby.
07:24Well,
07:25I guess it's good that occasionally,
07:26Sabrina's magic benefits the person she keeps abusing.
07:30I feel like that,
07:32Because Libby hasn't really done anything,
07:34Or said anything especially gruesome lately,
07:37To her.
07:38Since Sabrina didn't like that he likes Libby,
07:42It's a plight of Chad to say sorry,
07:43And he might be going bad.
07:45Zelda likes seeing the fireman put his fireman clothes on really fast.
07:50Kilda finally gets fed up,
07:52And picks up a rolling pin,
07:53But I don't get to see her beat him up,
07:55Until she got him to revert to a little pile of dough.
07:58Why?
07:59The sisters play a tug of war with Zelda's date,
08:02And it turns out his arm can be pulled off really easily.
08:07Sabrina's date coughs up dust,
08:09And runs outside to turn into a bunch of scattered dough.
08:12This would have happened in front of mortals eventually,
08:15But I guess the reason this stuff isn't banned on Earth,
08:17Is that they assume the mortals would just blame this on demons,
08:20And they like that mortals get freaked out by magic,
08:23Because they're mortals,
08:24And if they see the arm come off,
08:25They'd assume it's prosthetic.
08:27And it's a good way to expose the fakes,
08:30So that employees can't send in dream dates,
08:34To be their substitutes.
08:36The story ends with Libby trying to report Chad as a missing person,
08:39And because she only waited 20 minutes and not a whole day,
08:43She's hung up on him.
08:45I guess the real reason was that she said an obviously fake name,
08:48And talks like a typical teenager on the phone by gushing about him.
08:52So they assumed she was lying.
08:54Wouldn't she just assume that his parents would file the report?
08:58We're at the end of Disc 1, Season 1,
09:01And so far,
09:02The kind of problems Libby had to deal with because of magic,
09:05Haven't been nearly as amusing as in the pilot.
09:08I'm thankful for them,
09:09But I haven't found them funny again,
09:11Assuming I did before.
09:13It's a tough thing to write,
09:15Because maybe seeing Slapstick would be too shocking sometimes,
09:18Because she's a girl.
09:19So it would have to be more rare,
09:21And entirely the silly kind.
09:23This story by Rachel Lipman was about Sabrina having a surprisingly fun date to the dance,
09:29With a fake person or aunt's maid.
09:31And Zelda has a fun date of her own that's barely shown,
09:35While Hilda has a painfully bad date,
09:37Because she was too dumb to check the expiration dates on everything first,
09:41When this is a pretty big deal,
09:43It's not like you're having a little casual snack,
09:45And you like the risk taking of not checking it.
09:49And she's not smart enough to give up right away either.
09:51At least that was a believable dumb.
09:54The fact that it's so easy to pull the arm off a fake date,
09:58Explains why the aunt's didn't bring a dream date to the family reunion.
10:03I guess the story was fine.
10:05If Sabrina had hated her time at a dance,
10:07Like I expected from all of my animated series experiences,
10:11I would have hated the episode,
10:13For having a message against using magic to have any fun.
10:18Instead,
10:18The message was pretty subtle,
10:20Go to the dance if you want.
10:22The major message was,
10:23Don't keep a crush a secret.
10:25Even though in real life,
10:27There's a lot of unrequited crushes out there,
10:29Where the honesty about them would ruin the friendship.
10:32So the message writing sucked.
10:34Because it's only good in the exact situation it presented.
10:38Sabrina's lucky Harvey likes her back.
10:40He could have had higher standards.
10:42I loved Harvey dancing and the fact that he still liked her back.
10:47It's just that the message got in the way of them getting together,
10:50Finally putting that will they,
10:52Won't they to rest.
10:54We'll give you a boost.
11:10Bye.
11:11Bye.
11:12Bye.
11:12Bye.
11:12Bye.
11:12Bye.
11:13Bye.
11:14Bye.
11:14Bye.
11:18Bye.
11:21Bye.
