00:00Sabrina Nighty's show Dante's Inferno.
00:04Zelda thanks Salem because he told her a new recipe the family just ate.
00:09Hilda reassures him and she says she'll zap up ice cream and Sabrina sees a screaming eye.
00:15Zelda states the obvious and she tells Hilda she's got potenitis and somehow she doesn't believe her about it and makes a nonsense assumption.
00:25And she zaps up a celebrity too by accident.
00:29Why didn't it explain why potenitis exists?
00:33It'd have to be made by witches as a curse for the same reason computer viruses are.
00:39Eventually Harvey tells Sabrina that his dad wants him to date other girls so he could get more experience in life and that it's either that or he goes to military school.
00:49At least show his dad telling him this if you're gonna put us through this.
00:54Zelda disappoints Sabrina by taking the side of Harvey's dad.
00:58She's right about saying it can be good to try new things.
01:02Yeah, but it's still weird to not care about her boyfriend cheating on her.
01:06For once Zelda seems realistic by nagging her to date a witch instead.
01:12I only like this because it happened in the comic and because it actually explains why she doesn't care about the Harvey thing.
01:20The aunt summon a witch who could find a boyfriend for Sabrina.
01:24She just turns them down with weird excuses like Harvey gets seasick.
01:30That makes no sense because it's not like Harvey's gonna be on the boat with them.
01:34Again, the story is a joke at Valerie's expense.
01:38When Sabrina's upset about Harvey being forced to date another girl by his dad, she mentions a restaurant that he's going to and Valerie says she loves that restaurant.
01:48Why did she think that was okay to say now?
01:52The other mistake Valerie made was believable though.
01:55Like for someone with no social skills.
01:58Hilda says she knows someone she could set Sabrina up with and we see her standing behind him on his flying bike.
02:05And he orders from a fast food drive-thru.
02:09And somehow, just because it's his first day, the fries all fall over them.
02:15Even though the other food got zapped into their mouths.
02:19Then the guy that we didn't get to learn anything about creates a star, metaphorically.
02:26I sorta like this but I also hate that the writer did this because we know he's not gonna end up with Sabrina anyway.
02:33Zelda zaps up something to pinch Hilda's nose close so she'll take a potion and she gives Hilda a cure but it doesn't work somehow.
02:44Isn't she a genius?
02:47Sabrina comes home telling her aunt she's happy about the date and zaps up burgers into their mouths to be nice.
02:54Valerie thinks it's a good idea somehow to tell Sabrina that Harvey liked his date with someone else.
03:01Sabrina actually admits to Harvey that just because they're dating other people doesn't mean they can't love each other.
03:08And says they should be mature about this, basically.
03:12And it's to the point where she says they should go on a double date with each other.
03:16That was a nice surprise considering what an idiot and jerk she's been.
03:20So of course in the next scene she's jealously complaining about Harvey's new girlfriend.
03:25But I can't blame her because she's a model.
03:28And there's always the chance he'd leave her for a new girlfriend.
03:32And this is more in character than her not being jealous.
03:35Then a celebrity warps into Sabrina's room out of nowhere so that's creepy.
03:40Then he starts singing which sounds nice.
03:43And I'm glad that she heard Sabrina up about this thing that happened that should have startled her.
03:49Salem Lampshade said he shouldn't be here because nobody made a pun.
03:53The writer should have explained this but he never does.
03:57It turns out her witch boyfriend has never been to Earth before.
04:02And somehow he doesn't even know he's not allowed to use magic there.
04:06Which he's technically lying about.
04:08But it'll make it easier for him to not get caught here.
04:11I did find it amusing when he didn't know what stairs were.
04:15And when he got told he has to walk down them, he says get out.
04:20But basic common sense would have told him that.
04:23So this wouldn't happen.
04:24This is an interesting concept.
04:26He falls down the stairs.
04:29And Sabrina wonders if he'll still be able to bull.
04:32In the next scene he's totally fine.
04:34Which could make sense because he could have healed himself.
04:38But we should have seen that.
04:40He ends up using magic to make Harvey trip almost as soon as he sees him.
04:45It's weird because he could have assumed that the witch's council was enforcing a no magic rule on Earth.
04:51But he still took the risk.
04:53She should have assumed he might have done this.
04:56The ants use something that shows them a hologram of a guy trying to get a date.
05:01And because he's got a doctorate, Hilda turns the hologram off even though Zelda's the one looking for the date.
05:08And this is because she doesn't want to live with yet another person who makes her feel insecure about her intelligence.
05:14I hated that she did that and it actually had consequences because the next time Zelda turned on the hologram maker, surprisingly it wasn't the same guy.
05:24And Hilda magically messes with his holograms to interfere with the message from him.
05:29The date consists of Sabrina telling a story about Harvey being able to eat a huge amount of pizzas.
05:35And then the warlock uses magic to eat a pizza really fast.
05:39Sabrina explains that his dad's in the circus and I guess that's believable.
05:44Zelda likes seeing a hologram of a guy and then Salem's in there.
05:48And he calls himself Dr. Love Machine and actually laughed at that.
05:54The warlock zaps up some fancy shoes, not like they see him zapping them up.
05:59And after the warlock humiliates himself with a bowling ball, he makes sure the bowling ball of Harvey's shatters.
06:06Harvey says he's never seen anything like that, except in the Flintstones, and I giggled.
06:12Zelda likes seeing her genius date show up and Hilda bonds with her over the way he looks, only to turn him into a deer by accident because she's sick.
06:22Hilda asking Zelda in confusion why she'll still go out with him makes me wonder why she doesn't use magic to turn him back to normal.
06:30So I have to assume she can't undo the spell, not even with a potion.
06:35That's a really depressing witch sickness.
06:39Dante uses magic to conjure up a third arm to win an arm wrestling.
06:44Sabrina uses magic to make the hats of her mortal friends go over their eyes.
06:49Hilda warps to Sabrina by accident trying to conjure up a bull, and she tells Sabrina she could use magic to disable Dante's magic.
06:57Which was common sense of Sabrina to try to do a lot earlier.
07:01The spell arbitrarily wears off for no reason just so that Dante could turn Harvey into a bowling pin.
07:07And Sabrina lies to the girl that Harvey ditched her.
07:13Harvey gets brought back to normal by the ants because somehow they were needed to do that.
07:17And because of the curse on him, he still had some residual effect because he acts like he's really stupid for a few seconds.
07:23Zelda apologizes to Sabrina for what she was put through by that warlock, who had such a paper-thin and predictable personality that he hardly deserved to be called by his name.
07:35Valerie happily reveals to Sabrina that her parents set her up with a boy, and then asks her nervously if third cousins are okay to date.
07:43She's really nothing but the butt of a joke. All I respect is the sheer variety of jokes that were done at her expense.
07:51I'm glad it's not actually the same few types of jokes every time, and instead it's elaborating on her character bit by bit.
07:59And it makes it easier to deal with her that even the writers hate her, because they're making fun of her all the time instead of endlessly shilling the new character.
08:09Harvey wonders why the model won't call him back.
08:13I'm glad Sabrina cast a spell so that she'll call him, because he was pretty grateful for that.
08:18For once, she's being in character, and she really proves that she loves him here.
08:23I want her to be sweet and well-intentioned most of the time, but here she's just selfish most of the time and only in character for a few seconds if we're lucky.
08:32Sabrina always had a jealous streak with Harvey, though, so that's why I didn't get really mad about her trying to ruin his chances with another girl, even though it was a dick move.
08:42Most people would still do the same thing, though.
08:45She gets comforted by hearing a nice love song get played, and it turns out Zelda's going on a date with a celebrity cameo.
08:53He says it's been three days and nobody's fed him.
08:57She's got a good reason to be confused, because it makes no sense that he wouldn't have gotten food from the fridge himself.
09:04Then he tries to teach them line dancing.
09:07And at one point he actually asks who's got her hand too low for him to be comfortable with, and it's Hilda.
09:14And he just moves on and they dance anyways.
09:18I was shocked that they got away with making that joke in a show like this, because usually it only comes off like it's aimed at kids.
09:25But it's realistic that adult stuff would happen occasionally because adults are some of the main characters, and Hilda's supposed to be evil.
09:33They never would have gotten away with that joke if the genders were reversed.
09:37I guess the only reason he's being so nice to them instead of being afraid of them is that he's smartly trying to suck up to a bunch of witches who zapped him here so he could get on their good side.
09:46And the reason he didn't just try to escape the house is that he got sent back there last time he tried, and he thinks it'll happen again anyways.
09:54This story by Charlie Turquette was about Sabrina and Harvey seeing other people not because they aren't still dating actually, but because Harvey's dad wants them to get experience with other girls.
10:06So the show was surprisingly progressive by depicting an open relationship, even if it's not necessarily one they want, and having Sabrina describe it as a mature way to handle this.
10:16Because an immature way would have been them having a messy breakup.
10:20And Zelda sets Sabrina up with a warlock, and this goes exactly as badly as you'd expect.
10:26At least it's believable that she'd set up the double date because she wants to feel less guilty about seeing someone else than Harvey by introducing the guy to him, so he has less to worry about.
10:36But since the solution to Dante's magic abuse was so brain-dead simple, it's such an insult to Sabrina as a character that she didn't get rent to try it herself.
10:46The source material at her looked really cool and capable because she usually came up with what to do with her magic on the fly, which made it look like she had all of her abilities memorized.
10:56The comics don't have her need to run toward aunties or Salem or rely on a magic book nearly every time she uses magic in a way that drives the whole plot.
11:06It was hard to watch him abuse magic on people who did nothing to deserve it.
11:11But I also appreciated how much variety there was in the spells he used.
11:15Combine that with all of the variety and jokes at Valley's expense, and there was an impressive amount of creativity in the episode.
11:22No wonder I ended up being okay with it.
11:25It was an interesting premise the series never did before.
11:28And the whole problem with Dante could have easily been justified by saying that Sabrina ran out of magic.
11:34Instead it had to be an arbitrarily temporary spell so I could get to see Sabrina be the one to stand up to him.
11:40I like that he got humiliated again after the day ended because there was a bone in his head and he said he's got school tomorrow.
11:47Because he somehow thinks he wouldn't be able to undo the spell.
11:50I guess the standard is when witches hex each other they lock the spell.
11:55And that's just begging to be abused for crime.
11:58And also there's a pretty lazy subplot with the ants trying to get dates.
12:02At least it was interesting to see how it was done because they were seeing a bunch of different guys as holograms of themselves.
12:08So I guess the moral of the story of this episode was to make sure you really know a guy first before trusting him to go on a double date with him and the boyfriend you're actually in love with.
12:16Even though this is an extremely unlikely situation for anyone to be in.
12:20Especially because she'd have to be extremely stupid to trust him not to get jealous of her boyfriend and start mistreating him.
12:25And anyone with common sense would already know this lesson.
12:29Until next time.
12:30To ruin her.
