00:00Well, the yellow level adverse weather advisory has been extended and we have experienced
00:05significant unstable weather conditions throughout the day. How long is this expected to continue?
00:10Well, joining us to help answer that question and more is meteorologist Gary Benjamin.
00:15Good evening, Mr. Benjamin, and thank you for joining us.
00:19Pleasant and good evening to you and to all your viewers and your listeners.
00:23Mr. Benjamin, tell us more about the extension of this yellow level
00:27and to what extent citizens should be consumed.
00:30Okay, well, since last Thursday, we have been initially alerted to this type of weather
00:38that is possible for Tuesday and yesterday, on Monday, sorry, we put out the yellow level
00:45alert for Tuesday, which had come to and out as we are expecting in the heavy showers and
00:53we have had consistent rainfall and heavy showers across Canada and Tobago since yesterday.
00:59morning, and it is ongoing. We are expecting a little bit of abatement tonight, but because
01:06of the cumulative effects of that rainfall over more than a 24-hour period, we have extended
01:12the yellow level because we expect that the rivers could be rising and all the different
01:17effects of this continuous rainfall could still be in the air, so to speak. So we have the yellow level,
01:25still ongoing, and we are looking at it, and probably we'll get some more weather tomorrow,
01:30and we will look at it and continue to see how it goes.
01:33But for now, yellow level has been extended until tomorrow afternoon.
01:38Well, you're speaking about tomorrow, but what about in the days thereafter and this weekend?
01:42What can citizens expect?
01:43Okay, so we expect Tuesday was a tropical wave. Today was a perturbation because these
01:51kind of virgences takes place around the tropical waves, so today we have a perturbation or low-level
01:58trough, if you like. Tomorrow, we have a much weaker trough, but because of the cumulative effects,
02:04we could still expect some flooding in some areas, and on Friday, early Friday, there's
02:11the expectation of a tropical wave again, so that we could expect continuing rainfall bouts,
02:17sometimes heavy rainfall, for the next few days. I'll be looking at better weather conditions,
02:24at least coming to sometime Saturday and over the weekend.
02:28And Mr. Benjamin, with other areas of interest developing, how safe is Trinidad and Tobago?
02:32Well, we are as safe as we've been prepared for. We have been having the NDPPM, the National
02:41Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Month, for ongoing and we've been allowing the population,
02:47educating the population, the DFOs, and all the major stakeholders. Of course, repeating
02:52the population is a major stakeholder. So everyone should have been prepared, and if you are not
02:57prepared, the rainy season is ongoing, and this is not the only bout of rain what we expect
03:04in the rainy season. So continue our preparations, and take our information from the official sources,
03:11such as the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service, and the ODPM.
03:16Well, thank you very much, Mr. Benjamin, for joining us tonight, and the information that
03:20you have provided to help us all keep safe. Thank you.
03:25Much appreciated. Take care.
