The Adverse Weather Alert Yellow Level has been extended until Monday, May 19th at 6 pm. Originally issued on Friday, the alert was set to be in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday. However, with widespread rainfall across the country, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service extended the alert on Sunday morning.

00:00The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is warning of more wet weather ahead.
00:06There is an 80% chance of intermittent rainfall of varying intensities,
00:11along with isolated thunderstorms across Trinidad,
00:14particularly in southern and central areas where recent rainfall has already left soils saturated.
00:22The Met Service adds, over in Tobago,
00:24there is a medium or 60% chance of isolated heavy showers or thunderstorms
00:30but as higher concentrations of Sahara dust are expected to favour them,
00:35widespread rainfall activity is forecast to be limited.
00:39Despite the forecast rainfall, both islands will experience significant Saharan dust levels,
00:46which may reduce visibility and air quality at times.
00:50The Intertropical Convergence Zone, or ITCZ, is gradually shifting northward.
00:56This is expected to add to the current unstable weather,
01:00enhancing rainfall and thunderstorm activity overnight into Monday.
01:05The Met Office has issued a warning for a heightened risk of landslides and landslips in vulnerable areas.
01:12Additional impacts include street or flash flooding,
01:15localised ponding, gusty winds in the vicinity of heavy downpours,
01:20which can also lead to agitated seas.
01:23Residents are advised to remain alert and exercise caution,
01:27especially in areas with a history of flooding or landslides.
01:31The public is advised to avoid driving or walking through floodwaters,
01:36assess their surroundings before heading out,
01:38and take all necessary precautions to reduce potential risks.
