00:00with Rochelle for more on tonight's weather forecast. Thanks, Nisha. Good evening, Trinidad
00:05and Tobago. There's a lot to talk about, so let's get right to it. The scale of devastation left by
00:12Hurricane Melissa is becoming clear after the record-setting storm tore through Jamaica,
00:18Haiti and Cuba, leaving over 30 people dead. Although downgraded from a Category 5 to Category
00:251, Hurricane Melissa gathered speed as it swept through Bahamas today and is expected to make
00:31landfall in Bermuda as a Category 2 storm. Authorities in the Bahamas have since lifted
00:38hurricane warnings for the Central and Southern Islands as well as for the Turks and Caicos.
00:45Nearly 1,500 people were evacuated from vulnerable areas in what officials described as one of the
00:52largest operations in Bahamian history. As Melissa hits Bermuda, it is reported that the island may
00:59experience sustained winds of 40 to 60 knots with guts up to 92 miles per hour. Very rough seas expected
01:08as well with offshore waves 20 to 30 feet or more. Heavy rainfall and hazardous surf or rip current
01:15conditions to occur as well. Even though Melissa is no longer at its peak intensity, it remains a
01:22dangerous storm. So we will continue to keep you updated with Hurricane Melissa.
01:27Moving on now to conditions in Port of Spain currently, we have a few clouds with temperatures
01:33at 28 degrees. We have humidity at 69%. Looking at tonight, conditions will be generally fair at
01:42first. However, a gradual increase in cloud cover and showers is expected from after midnight,
01:48particularly over Tobago and eastern Trinidad. There is a medium chance of isolated thunderstorm activity.
01:56Minimum temperatures are coming in at 24 degrees in Trinidad and 25 in Tobago.
02:03If you're a fan of gloomy skies and rainy days, tomorrow's forecast will be right up your alley. The
02:09Met Office is predicting cloudy periods with rainfall of varying intensity along with a medium to high chance of
02:16isolated thunderstorms. Conditions are expected to be settled by evening, though an occasional lingering
02:22shower may persist. Maximum temperatures are expected to come in at 30 degrees in both Trinidad
02:28and Tobago. So those cloudy periods are expected to continue on Saturday accompanied by scattered showers,
02:36especially during the morning and early afternoon. There's a medium chance of isolated thunderstorms.
02:42Conditions should gradually improve by evening, leading to a generally fair and comfortable night.
02:48Saharan dust is also forecast to be present. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach around
02:5432 degrees in Trinidad and 31 in Tobago. But don't let the rain dampen your spirits. Sunday
03:02promises brighter conditions with mostly sunny, hazy and breezy weather. A few partly cloudy spells and
03:08icy to showers may occur in some areas. Maximum temperatures are 33 degrees in Trinidad and 31 in
03:15Tobago on Sunday. For all the early rises and sunset chasers, sunrise is at 557 in Trinidad and it was set
03:24at 542. Over in Tobago, sunrise is at 554 and it was set at 538. So good news, the hazardous sea
03:34alert has been discontinued just in time for the weekend. So it's now safe to resume to your beach
03:40and boating activities. But first, here's what our seas are looking like. Seas are moderate with waves
03:461.5 meters to 2 meters in open waters and below 0.5 meters in sheltered areas. It's now time for your
03:53tide times. That's all for weather tonight. Don't go anywhere. There's more news when we come back.
