Rain again, orographic effects lead to the development of locally heavy showers in most areas, here’s Rochelle Edwards with the details in our weather forecast.
00:00Let's check in now with Rochelle for tonight's weather forecast.
00:03Thanks, Tisha. Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago.
00:07Let's get right to your weather.
00:09All eyes were on north-central, northwestern and west-central Trinidad today
00:17where showers and isolated thunderstorms developed this afternoon after a mostly sunny day.
00:24Here's what happened.
00:25Daytime heating, sea breeze converged, and as warm, moist air moved over hilly areas,
00:33orographic effects led to the development of locally heavy showers and thunderstorms,
00:38favoring northern and western areas of Trinidad this afternoon.
00:43In this activity, localized street or flash flooding is the primary hazard,
00:48accompanied by gusty winds and frequent lightning.
00:51This clip shows some flooding that occurred on the eastern main road in Chamflair.
00:57Moving on now to conditions in Portisbury presently.
01:00TV6's weather center says downtown is mostly clear with temperatures at 31 degrees Celsius.
01:06We have winds coming east-southeast at 2 knots.
01:10Humidity is at 79%.
01:12And tonight we're having mostly fair conditions despite some isolated showers.
01:18Tobago, there's a low chance of isolated thunderstorm activity occurring over or near to you.
01:26Minimum temperatures are 24 degrees in Trinidad and 26 in Tobago.
01:32Looking at what we're getting tomorrow, according to the Met Office,
01:36we're getting partly cloudy to cloudy periods with a few showers that will interrupt otherwise hot and sunny conditions.
01:44Isolated heavy showers or thunderstorm activities are likely from late morning to afternoon.
01:50So basically what we've been getting all week.
01:54My advice, do all your outdoor activities in the morning and if you can, try to head back in by early afternoon.
02:01Maximum temperatures are 33 degrees in Trinidad and 32 in Tobago.
02:05Now, before you go making plans for the weekend, let's see what's the forecast.
02:11On Saturday, generally hot and sunny conditions will be interrupted by partly cloudy spells with isolated showers.
02:19Sunday, on the other hand, doesn't look as bright with partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy conditions with scattered showers.
02:27There's a medium chance of isolated thunderstorms for both days.
02:31Maximum temperatures are 33 degrees in Trinidad and 32 in Tobago on Saturday.
02:37And on Sunday, 32 degrees in Trinidad and 31 in Tobago.
02:42If the beach is calling and you're planning on answering, tomorrow's seas are moderate with waves 1.5 meters to 2 meters in open waters and up to 1 meter in sheltered areas.
02:53Now, for your sun times in Trinidad, sunrise, right here, sunrise is at 5.55 and it was set at 6.04.
03:01Over in Tobago, sunrise is at 5.52 and it was set at 6.01.
03:07Now, hear your Thai times.
03:08In international news, a fire whirlwind or firenado has torn through a sugarcane field in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.
03:29Firefighter, firefighting teams worked to extinguish the flames earlier this month and no injuries were reported.
03:36According to the Sao Paulo state civil defense, the phenomenon occurs when the intense heat from a fire rapidly warms air near the ground.
03:46The hot air rises quickly and combined with wind begins to rotate, creating a fire tornado.
03:54I'm happy to hear that no one was hurt.
03:57That's all for weather tonight.
03:59But before I go, congratulations to Kijan Walcott and Jareem the Dream Richards.
