00:00This is an if team, right? There's always all these, if this happens, if this happens, if they all happen,
00:05yes, the Jets would be much better.
00:08What are the odds that everything is going to go their way?
00:18Hello and welcome to Gangs All Here. That's right, we're doing another episode here even though we're still in the
00:21middle of the offseason.
00:23I'm Ryan Sampson, your host. That's my guy Frankie Vittery from U Stadium and Kaz back from vacation, our Jets
00:28beat writer.
00:28We can't do it without him. Welcome back. Before we get started, as always, I'll start this episode. Kaz, how
00:35are you doing, man?
00:37What are we going to talk about? Nothing's happening. What are we going to talk about?
00:41Some things did happen, Kaz, since the last time you were on this show.
00:46That's true. We'll get into that in a little bit, but Frankie, how are you doing, buddy?
00:52I'm doing good, man. I'm doing good. I'm ready for my own little vacay. A week from now, I will
00:56be in Italia, which will be nice.
00:58I'm not going for long, but Kaz, I'll be in Calabria, Kaz, right on the beach of the mountain.
01:03How much is Frankie getting paid? What's going on here?
01:09Yeah, I'm a big hit over there, Kaz. I'm a big hit, so yeah, it's a little bit of a
01:15talent exploration for me.
01:18No, but I'm going to see my grandmother. I'm excited about that.
01:21Since the last time we spoke with you, I said this on last week's episode, I can't believe we're back
01:28here in 2026 with Geno Smith back in the news for off-the-field things.
01:34When all things considered, when you look at Geno's career, right?
01:38He had the incident in the locker room with IK and Impali, punching him, breaking his jaw, but then his
01:44off-the-field stuff really didn't, nothing really happened in Geno's career after he left the Jets.
01:50But then he comes back to the Jets, and now we see this happen.
01:53I mean, it's funny how it works out that way, but first off, what is your sense on the situation
02:01with Geno caught on camera with his girlfriend, wife, whatever was going on down there?
02:08Yeah, I don't think that was his girlfriend or his wife, from what I understand.
02:12So I think it might have been maybe a former girlfriend, I don't know, or something.
02:15I don't know. I could not figure out what the nature of the relationship was.
02:19But yeah, honestly, Ryan, he actually has had some incidents.
02:23You know, he got into it with a fan last year, his last year in Seattle, I think it was,
02:28or maybe in Vegas.
02:29He got into it with a fan. He's had some speeding things.
02:32It's kind of like Geno had these little things pop up with his time with the Jets, too.
02:38It wasn't like he was getting arrested or anything like that, but he just kind of always seemed to have
02:43something going on.
02:45There was an incident on a plane, if you remember, where he had an incident with a flight attendant.
02:50There was another thing where he got caught sending naughty pictures to somebody that they posted on the Internet.
02:58And so the troubling thing, I think, is that you would hope that now at 35, he's not kind of
03:06doing this stupid stuff.
03:08And I don't know the story of what happened there.
03:11I don't know what it was, but it's just I think the Jets probably wish, you know, they could have
03:16just had a quiet six weeks between minicamp and training camp.
03:19But it doesn't look like Geno was the aggressor in this thing at all.
03:24Right. The person was at his home.
03:28If he had beaten, you know, this is me speculating, but if he had done something that he was accused
03:34of, I think he would have been arrested.
03:35I think that's a I think that's a crime that's fairly easy to prove to get arrested for.
03:42Maybe not once you get to court or whatever, but there would have been some evidence that he he assaulted
03:47somebody.
03:48Right. Right. So he didn't get arrested. So I think that's a sign that maybe, you know, that this isn't
03:53going to be a big deal in the long run.
03:56But, you know, you don't want any of your players involved in this stuff and especially not your quarterback.
04:02Yeah. A hundred percent. You know, I believe the police were were looking into him for possible domestic abuse, but
04:08or domestic violence situation.
04:10But from what we've heard so far, that that has not come to fruition in terms of finding any evidence
04:17of there being domestic abuse there.
04:20So from your knowledge, there's no sense of Geno being suspended this upcoming season. Right.
04:26No, I haven't heard anything that would indicate that. I don't think this is a strong enough case.
04:31Like even if, you know, the NFL sometimes does it if the law doesn't.
04:34There's just there's no evidence that, you know, did anything wrong right now, whether she just she's just whoever this
04:40woman was, which I also have a problem with.
04:43We don't even know her name. Right. I think we knew her first name was on the Instagram.
04:47But like I have a little kind of as a reporter, like it kind of makes me a little nervous
04:51that we don't even know her name.
04:53But there was no evidence that he did anything. So I don't think the NFL would have a leg to
04:57stand on to suspend them on this unless unless this develops further.
05:01So how concerned, how concerned do you think Jet fans should be with Geno's maturity?
05:09And should we have less confidence in him in terms of being a leader that I think this team needs,
05:15especially on offense?
05:16Cause we have such a young roster. It feels like everyone's under 25 or younger on the team.
05:22Yeah. On offense.
05:23Yeah. How do we worry about it, Frankie? Because the maturity thing, again, Geno, do we think Geno is going
05:28to be here in a year?
05:30I know. I know. Probably not.
05:32No, we don't.
05:32Maybe. And if he is, he's going to be grooming someone behind him. Right.
05:35It's going to be they decided to hold on to him to play four games until whoever they got this
05:39right.
05:40So it's not like you're the maturity thing was a much bigger deal when he was the guy like in
05:442013 and 14.
05:46And you were looking for him to become your franchise quarterback.
05:48Geno is not going to be the franchise quarterback. That's not what his role is.
05:51So I think you can be a leader. And I don't think this affects that at all.
05:57I think, you know, I think what's going to affect his leadership ability is how well he plays.
06:01It's very hard to be a leader if you're not playing well at that position.
06:05And we've seen that through the years. So I think, you know, if he comes in and he plays well,
06:09he's like, he's had a thousand NFL lives.
06:13Right. Like you think I saw something popped up the other day on something I was looking at YouTube or
06:20Twitter from when the Giants benched Eli Manning.
06:26Right. Geno Smith, they benched him for Geno Smith.
06:29Yeah. It's like, he's got this kind of Forrest Gump life of like, he's been through all these, like it's,
06:34he was the guy, right?
06:36Like he was the second round pick. He was the rookie starter. Then he loses his job to Fitz.
06:42He tears his ACL. He goes off, becomes a backup. Then he, you know, he supplants the, well, he, I
06:48don't know if supplants is right,
06:49where he replaces Eli Manning after this whole thing. Then he has this life in Seattle.
06:53And so it's like, he's had a lot. He was two years in Seattle cause two years cause in Seattle.
06:59He barely played younger players. I think he can help younger players navigate the NFL. I do.
07:04But I think the key is being successful playing wise. It's, it's hard to lead if you're not playing well.
07:11Frankie, are you saying that you didn't think Geno played well in Seattle?
07:15No, he had two years, Ryan and cause where he didn't play in Seattle until his third season.
07:20So to what cause was saying, yeah, he wasn't even, he wasn't even playing in Seattle right away.
07:25So that was another thing. He had to go from being a backup third on the, you know, third string
07:29at a point and move his way up.
07:31I mean, yeah, he's, he's always found a way to kind of crawl back in and, and, and, and become
07:36a starter somewhere. It's true.
07:38Well, it's been a reclamation project for Geno here in terms of his career.
07:43And like you said, Frankie, he kind of earned that, that the right to play in Seattle and cause, I
07:49think when you're setting expectations for him this year, right?
07:52Like I've heard you say it's somewhere in the middle, it's not too high, not too low, but like, yeah,
07:57I just, I, I am curious.
08:00Can the jets get to that middle average offense where it's not, you know, we're not watching a bottom five
08:09offense every week.
08:11Yeah. I, yeah, I think not bottom five, Ryan, I'm skeptical.
08:17It can be higher than like 20 ish in that area. Like, I don't know.
08:22I think there's a lot of ifs. I think you're counting on a lot of ifs.
08:25You're counting Geno's an if the rookies are ifs, you know, Adonai Mitchell's an if the middle of the offensive
08:32line to me is an if like there's a lot of,
08:35I kind of think I know what to expect from Garrett Wilson and Brees Hall if they stay healthy.
08:40Um, the tackles, I think I know what to expect if they stay healthy, everybody else.
08:46I'm not really sure what to expect. And so I think that's tricky, uh, to be saying, you know, can
08:51they be, you know,
08:52like top half or whatever, or the NFL, I think that's going to be hard. Um, but I'm curious to
08:58see Ryan and Frankie,
09:00if Geno struggles, like, does it get ugly quick here? I feel like, well, I feel like there was a
09:07lot of Jets fans
09:08who were pissed off when the Jets traded for him in March. Like they wanted no part of Geno Smith.
09:12And I was surprised at the fact that there was still kind of ill will towards Geno from 12 years
09:20ago or whatever.
09:21Like, I don't know. He, he obviously had the IK incident and however you view that, but he wasn't that
09:29bad when he was here,
09:31when you look back at it, he was his first two years. There was promise there. Like I've always,
09:35one of the great unanswered Jets questions to me during my time is like, what would have happened if the
09:40punch never came?
09:41Like would Geno have been successful that year with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker?
09:45Uh, cause that offense was, you know, that offense was good with Fitz. Could Geno have done that?
09:49So I'm curious if he threw, you know, if he goes out against the Packers, the first home game and
09:53throws three interceptions,
09:55is he going to get booed out of the stadium? Um, I don't know.
09:59I mean, I, I, I would assume he would. I mean, he, he is prone to turning the ball over
10:03a ton.
10:04Uh, even those first two years with the Jets, 21 and 13 interceptions, the first two years.
10:09Uh, and I know that he had a, like Frankie said, he had to earn his way back to being
10:14a starting quarterback.
10:15And it took a while until he got to Seattle, but even in Seattle, right?
10:19You look at those, the, the three years in Seattle that he was a starter, 30 touchdowns, 11 interceptions,
10:2420 touchdowns, nine interceptions, 21 touchdowns, 15 interceptions.
10:28And then if you look at last year with the Vegas, he had 19 touchdowns, 17 interceptions.
10:33You've highlighted it cause he's going to turn the ball over a bunch.
10:36Yeah. Yeah. He's the anti-Justin Fields.
10:39Right. I mean, so like Justin Fields was frustrating to watch cause he never took any chances,
10:45but I, like, I was sort of laughing to myself last year. I'm like, this is the first quarterback
10:49I've ever covered. Who's going to get benched. Cause he didn't throw enough interceptions
10:53because it was like, he was taking no chances at all. So Gino's going to like you, you watch
10:58it in practice. There's some pros that Gino fits into a window. You're like, Holy cow.
11:03That was a gutsy throw. He drilled in there. It's not going to work all the time, but you
11:08can live with that. If the flip side is you're scoring tough, more touchdowns, you know, I
11:11mean, that was Brett Favre, right? Brett Favre through a ton of touchdowns and a ton of
11:15interceptions. So, but yeah, I think it's definitely going to be more exciting than the offense
11:21last year, because I think Gino will take more chances. Frankie, uh, the other thing
11:25with Gino guys, well, one quick thing with Gino, not only does he turn the ball over quite
11:30often, he also gets sacked a bunch. He does. He holds onto the ball way too long. He got
11:36sacked. And now causing right 55 times last year, 50 the year before had a year with 46.
11:41I looked to overall, you know, he's been sacked more Gino Smith than Dan Marino Gino in his
11:46career, just throwing that out there. No, it's like a stupid step, but he's been sacked a bunch
11:50guys. I'm just saying now I like our offensive line. I don't think it'll be as big of a problem
11:54here as it was in Vegas, but Gino gets sacked a lot guys. Yeah. And that'd be a key, right?
12:01How much time does he have? How much time in the line give? And, um, you know, I think
12:06this is a big proving year for the offensive line. I think we've all kind of been like,
12:10Oh, they have a lot of potential, a lot of potential. It's time to see if that, like that
12:14potential can be production this year. If they didn't get above average quarterback play.
12:19Yeah. Uh, and obviously like, I think that's a good point. You bring up Frankie about how
12:24many sacks Gino has taken. Um, if, if Olu Fashnu is supposed to be the tackle, we all hope
12:30he and pray he is. He has to have like the best, like this is the year he has to
12:35be a
12:36top. Like, I think you've talked about this cause he has to be like a top 10 tackle in
12:39football. Like obviously he's durable, but like, you gotta be able to hold up against the
12:44the premier pass rushers. Uh, and, and they're going to avoid Micah Parsons early in the season.
12:49So that's kind of a blessing in disguise there for the jets. But, uh, if Olu wants to take that
12:55next step, Gino, obviously, like you guys said, he's going to be in the pocket. He's going to want
12:59to pick the, pick the defense apart and wait for the opening of, of Garrett Wilson, Omar Cooper,
13:04potentially maybe even, uh, um, at night Mitchell. He can't be taking as many sacks with this
13:10offensive line. You got to hope that Olu can take that next step too. Yeah. And I
13:15mean, it's year three, right? Which I feel like the Bricashaw, that's kind of when the
13:18Bricashaw came into his own was year three. I remember there was a lot of questions about
13:22Bric, about his size and was he big enough and all that stuff early on. And 2008 was when
13:27the jets had their, you know, their best offensive line that I've ever seen. Um, you know, with,
13:32when they added Fanica and Damian Woody to what they already have with Brandon Moore,
13:37Nick Mangold and the Bricashaw Ferguson. So, and Bric and Nick really came into their own
13:41when they had those guys around them. So, uh, yeah, it's a big year for Olu. I think Membu too,
13:46you know, year two, he, he played really well last year, but he could, he feels like he has
13:51the potential to be like a all pro pro bowl. Yeah. Can he, can he, can he realize that in
13:56year
13:57two, or is it going to take a little bit longer to get there? He's got some nastiness then too,
14:01Kaz and Membu. Uh, and, and I'm seeing stuff on social media. I know social media plays it for the
14:06fans, but he seems like he's got that leadership quality. The jets might want that, or get out of
14:12that offensive line group, just because with Simpson gone, which I read in your piece on sports
14:16plus, which everyone should read causes ranking the top 25 players in the jets right now, currently
14:20who are not rookies. Um, Membu plays with some nastiest and he's, he seems to be maybe emerging
14:28in year two. Maybe he'll have a bigger voice in that offensive, uh, locker room. I would say.
14:33Yeah. I mean, if you remember the Patriots game, uh, at MetLife at the end of the season,
14:38he basically had to be like pulled off of the field at halftime because he wanted to
14:42kill. Was it Barmore? I think. Yeah. Christian Barmore. Yeah. Yeah. They were fighting and
14:47like, he was, he was hot. Like he was hot. And so, yeah, like you like to see that from
14:51your offensive lineman and maybe he can be more successful than John Simpson without getting
14:55the penalties. Cause it's a fine line when you're playing like that, you get penalties, but yeah,
15:00it's, uh, I'm curious to see, you know, members development. Yep. Uh, both guys are bookend
15:06tackles young and, uh, you know, the interior, the offensive line, like it's tough to obviously
15:10find stars in the, and studs in the inside, but you hope that with Joe Tittman getting
15:14a new deal, he can develop into a nice starting guard, Josh Myers. He's average. I mean, he's,
15:21he's average to below average at center, but there's not many great centers in football.
15:25I would argue, uh, and Pardum's the new guy. He's, he's a big question mark. We don't know
15:30what he's going to be for the jets on this offensive line too. Um, cause I, I want to get
15:35your reaction here because we had Kerry Rhodes on gangs all here last week. And we had asked
15:40Kerry the jets current over under set to five and a half wins next year. Uh, and we asked
15:45Kerry Rhodes, where does he see the jets in total wins? Here's what he had to say. Can they
15:50get more than five and a half wins this year with all the additions they made both
15:54offensively and defensively and through the draft with a bunch of rookies that they've
15:58imported? Kerry Ryan wants some betting advice. He wanted to bet the over Ryan bet
16:05the over. Wow. Okay. Just like that. Huh? That's it. That's the over this team is wow. This
16:12is my sleeper team for the year. And I don't take that, um, likely at all. I said, they're
16:17my sleeper team. I said, they're going to finish second in that division. So I think
16:21they have a chance to surprise a lot of people. You talk about maybe nine wins, maybe 10, like
16:27that's going to be right at that. That's going to be right at that. Uh, uh, that's, that's
16:33a lot, but Kerry, that's a six win improvement. My man, you see that happening. Oh no. Oh,
16:38a hundred percent. I think this thing offensively, they're more structured to be successful.
16:42And you talk about them playing complimentary football defense is going to be fine.
16:47If they can get some turnovers and, and, and win a couple of games that they shouldn't
16:52win. I could see them winning nine, nine games, nine, 10 games for sure. So I'm on the bandwagon
16:58early. You guys are hearing it here. I think they, I think they have a chance to make the
17:02playoffs.
17:04Guys. Wow.
17:06Your thoughts on what Kerry said.
17:08He's replacing you as the optimistic guy.
17:13Jobs is if he wants it.
17:16Hard for me to see nine or 10 wins. I love Kerry, but that, that's, it's hard for me to
17:20see
17:20that. I don't, I'm not sure how, how you get there. Um, but yeah, good, good for Kerry to
17:27have that option.
17:28Good for Kerry.
17:34I think Kaz wants to tell you to bet the under Ryan, if you want my honest opinion.
17:39Listen, I'll say this, the, the Frank Reich stuff cause is I think where Kerry and I specifically
17:46may differ a bit. I just think just because Frank Reich's a veteran has experience has been around
17:52the league doesn't necessarily mean the offense is going to magically be that much better or good
17:58enough to win that many games. So, uh, he loves Frank Reich. He's a big Frank Reich fan. He was
18:04talking to us
18:04about him and his time in Arizona. He knew of him and he was, I guess it was a quarterback's
18:09guy there or something at a point. So I'm just not, uh, I'm not going to go that far, but
18:14I think
18:15five, five and a half is low though. I mean, overall, I mean, that's, that's, that's, that's low.
18:20They had three games last year. Why is it low?
18:24I mean, if you consider Gino Smith over Justin field, you consider the old lines, you know, going to get
18:31better. Hopefully they stay healthy though. We kind of got lucky. The old line was healthy.
18:34Here's what I, I wrote this and consistent. I've said it before. This is an if team, right? There's
18:39always all these, if this happens, if this happens, if they all happen, yes, the jets would be much
18:45better. What are the odds that everything's going to go their way though? Like they, they need so many
18:49things to go their way. And I don't feel like anyone's like Carrie kind of brushed over it
18:54there. The defense will be fine. Oh, let's, let's go over the defense a little bit. Cause that to me,
18:59that's where, like, it's weird to say this about the jets, but I'm more worried about the defense
19:05than the offense right now, which is crazy considering how bad the quarterback and offensive
19:09play have been in recent jets history. Yeah. Like I look at the secondary and I'm like,
19:15well, you know, I got questions there. Um, I think they're good with the Mario and Sherwood,
19:22but then if one of them gets hurt, what's there's nothing behind them to me. Like I'd be worried
19:27about the depth there. Defensive line is going to be interesting. I'm curious to see how they play
19:31all these guys together and how they fit together. They, they've got some, they've got some guys there
19:36to, to move around and play with. But I don't know. I just have some questions about the defense.
19:41And, and, you know, if it's secondary can't cover the ball is going to come out really fast and no
19:46one's getting sacks. Um, so that to me is a big question mark is the D and, um, I don't
19:53know.
19:53Carrie's Carrie, Carrie said, they'll be fine, but I I'm, I'm having trouble coming up with that.
19:59Look, I'll say this really quick though, just quickly about the secondary. They're not going to be able
20:05to hold up on deep patterns. I mean, Minka Fitzpatrick, they were playing him a lot in the box last
20:10year.
20:11Um, you know, these, these corners and, and the other safety too, they're going to struggle
20:17holding up. They, they just are, uh, Stevens is going to struggle. The other kids going to struggle.
20:23I mean, it's just, it's just, it is what it is. Um, but with the pass rushers, that's where things
20:28could get interesting cause because if teams are trying to throw the ball down the field, you'd hope
20:33that Bailey and McDonald will be able to get to the quarterback, you know, in enough time where
20:39you're not, so that's the one caveat there I think could work in their favor, but who knows?
20:45Who knows?
20:46Well, I will say this, um, with Bailey and McDonald cause, could you see a world where
20:54with David Bailey now being on this, on this pass rush, could will McDonald potentially
21:00unlock even further and, and reach a further potential that we haven't seen before?
21:08Yeah, it's possible. You know, I mean, look, he had a good year two years ago. Uh, and then last
21:12year was a little bit of a drop off, but I don't think last year was on him. I think
21:15that whole
21:15defense was just so messed up and, uh, there was no time to get to the, like the ball was
21:20coming out.
21:21So, you know, I think, yeah, I think it's, I think it's definitely possible, Ryan. I, I like Will
21:28McDonald as a pass rusher. Um, you know, I, the problem right now is David Bailey is a total
21:33projection, right? We haven't seen him at all. We haven't seen him in a preseason game. We haven't
21:38seen him in a real practice yet with pads. So that's, he might, he might come in and be where
21:44everything Frankie built him up to be coming into the draft, but he might be a, might be a rookie
21:49and it might take a little while for him to figure it out. So, you know, that's another big
21:53if in this whole thing. Yeah. Look, uh, and for all the fans that are probably going to kill us
21:58in
21:58the comments that were so negative about this jets team, look, this was a team that won three games
22:04last year. This was a defense that finished with zero interceptions. I never thought I'd see the day
22:09a team finished with zero interceptions, but the jets somehow found a way to do that. We think
22:14they've improved at quarterback. In fact, I think we all know they've improved at quarterback with
22:18Geno Smith, but he is turnover prone, which is going to put this defense. That's trying to improve
22:25in some bad spots, probably with short fields, which may affect the stats overall for them too,
22:30at the end of the year. So there's like cause says, and Frankie says, there's a lot of ifs,
22:35but I think you have to look at it from a realistic standpoint. While carry goes nine or 10 wins,
22:39I think that's obviously overshooting your skis there big time. But if the jets were to beat the
22:45over under projections of five and a half guys, they would be doubling their win total, which is,
22:50I would consider actually a plus coming from last year.
22:56Yeah, no, I I'm with you. I, I'm, I think, I think six way, I think if they could get
23:01to seven
23:02wins, that's probably the max that I see with this team, but we saw a long way to go and
23:08training camp
23:08to watch. And I think you raised, you know, the, the Gino thing that's interesting to me too,
23:13Ryan is that those good seasons are a while ago. That's four years ago, right? 2022 was his last,
23:20like a really good season, right? It was our 2020. What were the years?
23:25So his, his 22 is when he went 30 and 11 and then 23, he had 20 and nine.
23:32Okay. So three years since the last good year. And then he had one bad year in Seattle and then
23:37the Vegas. And I think it's worth pointing out too, that Seattle made a change at quarterback and
23:43they won the Superbowl. So like they, they obviously know what they're doing in Seattle
23:48and they decided to move on from Gino and replace him with Sam Darnold, who was not a sure thing
23:54when
23:55they, when they signed him, they had a good year in Minnesota, but that wasn't a sure thing.
23:57And they ended up winning the Superbowl. So I get Gino is better than Justin Fields,
24:02but Justin Fields was the bottom tier of the NFL last year. So I think Gino is in the next
24:08tier up,
24:09which still is not a great tier of quarterback.
24:12I completely agree. Frankie. Talk to me like about, about David Bale, like what Kaz is saying,
24:21we don't know what he's going to do on this defense, right? Like you would hope he gives you
24:25some impact here, but I do wonder also the, the, the guys they brought in on the edge and
24:30adding Barry and Osai, you have to factor those guys into the rotation to a David Bailey. And you
24:35can't put all the pressure on David Bailey to make an immediate impact. So would you be shocked,
24:40Frankie, if Bailey has to kind of earn those reps early on here?
24:45Well, listen, I think everyone should have to earn their reps. So I, I just, cause I love David
24:50Bailey and I have one of his biggest fan boys. He should have to earn his reps. If he's struggling
24:55against the run, you got to pull them at times. It just says what it is. It's about winning at
24:59the
24:59end of the day. It's not about favors or because you're drafted high, you automatically should get
25:04more playing time. I don't believe in that. With that said, I went a little bit into what David
25:09Bailey was doing at Texas tech. Their run defense was very weird and how they did things. And I'll say
25:16this, they were very effective. Actually, Texas tech had the number one run defense in college
25:21football last year. Number one, they had the best run defense and David Bailey was, was, was playing
25:25most of the snaps FYI, but they were moving him around a bunch. Carl Dunbar, I think likes to do
25:32more gap control stuff. I'm not sure what, how they're going to do both at the same time. Cause gap
25:37control and stunting are kind of different things usually on a football field. But I do think Carl
25:42Dunbar will help David Bailey in those gap control sort of reps and that sort of traditional style of
25:49playing defensive line, um, in the traditional style, excuse me, of playing defensive line. They're
25:55going to have to get him to really know how to body up and how to stay in his gap
26:01and not jump
26:01around too much. They were jumping him around that Jacob Rodriguez, they had a defensive tackle that was
26:06flying all over the place. They had Romeo on the other side. They were doing a bunch of things.
26:11I'm curious. Now there's jets defense. If you look at these guys, Osai and Igbari on Yamada,
26:18they can kind of play a little bit all over the place. They could play inside a little outside five
26:22tech three tech. I mean, you can move these guys around. Osai can play. Oh, all beca play a little
26:26five. I'm curious how Glenn's going to use these guys and Ryan and cause we were talking about this
26:32with Carrie last week with the Mario Davis too. And Jamie and Sherwood, they can do some blitzing
26:37stuff too. Demar has a ton of sacks in his career. If you go down and look, are they going
26:42to send
26:42those guys? Send Sherwood. He can fly, man. He can move for a linebacker. He's, he's a smaller kind
26:47of build too. So Glenn has a, Glenn has a very interesting, you know, opportunity, I would say
26:54in front of him as to like how he's going to use these guys, because you could be very creative,
27:00but if he goes to, Oh, be, you know, let's gap control, be more disciplined, stay in your gap.
27:06And if he starts doing things, I think too much in a traditional way, I don't think he's going to
27:10see
27:11the results that you could see with these guys. So we'll see. And the defense guys, honestly,
27:18I know everyone's saying the offense should be better. Your head coach is calling the defense.
27:22I mean, the guys approve in DC. I, I, I don't want to make too many excuses for the, for
27:28the defense.
27:29I'll just say that I want to see the defense should be playing well. Shouldn't it? I mean,
27:33you know, everyone's expecting the defense. Yeah. I just come back to this, Frankie. Give me,
27:40give me your top. Who's the top player on the defense? Probably. I mean, it's probably Demario
27:46Davis, honestly. Uh, I was going to say, yeah, I was going to say Sherwood maybe. Yeah. Or I would
27:54say a combination of Minka. If you want to go there. And I mean, I think Will McDonald could
27:59be one of your best defenders, which is crazy to say. I know he's not great versus the run, but
28:03he can, he can make a real impact on the defense. All fair answers, but none of them are like,
28:09okay, this guy like Quinton, right. None of them are Quinton. Like for it, let's,
28:13let's leave sauce out of the conversation. Cause he was, he was a guy that people saw
28:17differently, but Quinton, I think we all felt was even if you didn't think Quinton was a
28:20superstar, he was a star. Like he was going to be probably a pro bowl level player out
28:27of the box. Like you knew what you were going to get. I just don't feel like they have like
28:30Demario is always really good and he's been great. At some point, Demario is going to drop
28:35off. And you know, I'm not saying it's going to be this year, but you're kind of worried
28:40about that. Sherwood had a bad year last year. You're not sure what
28:43you're getting there. Will's been up and down Minka, you know, his, his, his turnover
28:50numbers were down. Um, and he's now going to be on his third team in three years. Right.
28:55So like, he's not what he was, I think is fair to say. So it's just the top end on
29:01the
29:02defense kind of, I just, I'm a little worried about, I just don't think they have those blue
29:06chip players on defense. I do think they have more depth on defense, especially on the line
29:10than they've had. Like I'm with you. I think, I think Glenn has a lot of pieces to use on
29:16that defensive line. I'm curious to see how he uses them, especially, I don't know an
29:20Inbari that well as a player. I don't know a side that well as a player. I'm very interested
29:23to see how he deploys them and what it looks like with those guys. And obviously sweat,
29:28I feel like is a huge, literally and figuratively huge piece of the puzzle here. Can he, can he
29:35break through? Does a change of scenery help him become the player that he clearly has the
29:41potential to become? Uh, and so, yeah, I think they definitely have more depth on defense,
29:47especially up front, but I just, I feel like the blue chip talent isn't quite where it was,
29:52um, in recent years. And if David Bailey were to develop into that blue chip, obviously that'd be a
29:58huge bonus for the Jets defense. Uh, and I'm sure they're hoping and praying he could turn into
30:03not even just the blue chip, but just like a real, real impact player. Uh, but it's going to be
30:07tough as a rookie to try to make that, that big of an impact. Uh, cause let's finish up with,
30:12uh, the Jets announced this week, the training camp schedule is going to be open to the public.
30:16It turns out it's only going to be one practice actually open to the public. The rest will be
30:20reserved for season ticket holders to attend training camp. That is open to the public. Uh, can you just
30:27clear the air here on why exactly the Jets are only limiting the public to one training camp practice?
30:33Yeah. So the Jets facility is going to go on a major renovation, Ryan. It's just starting now. I, I,
30:39I believe they, when, when many camp wrapped up, they started, I wrote a story about the weight room.
30:44Like they have a big temporary weight room set up on the field right now that they're using. And it's
30:49going to be, I think it's going to be at least a year or maybe longer than that, that they're
30:53doing
30:53this, but it's not just the way you're in, they're redoing their whole offices. Someone said to me the other
30:57day, this is going to be a completely different building. Like they're basically renovating the whole
31:01building. So as part of that renovation, um, if you've ever been to, for those of you who've been
31:07to Jets camp, there are three fields that are parallel to each other. Field one is where they
31:13usually have the open practices where they have the big bleachers, uh, you know, and so that field
31:19is basically closed now. That's, that's part of the construction zone. So they can't, they're not even
31:24practicing on that field. So they can't have the big bleachers there for that. So they're using field
31:31three, which is the one on the opposite side, and they're going to set up some bleachers, but they're
31:36not going to be quite as expansive as those. So that's the reason that, that, that led to this.
31:41And I, you know, I know it sucks for fans who love to go to training camp. Um, it's tough.
31:46And I know
31:46they, the Jets did look into having a practice at MetLife, an open practice there where they could get
31:52more fans in, but MetLife is basically now going to make up for all this world cup time
31:59with concerts and events in August. Cause they haven't, I think I'm not a hundred percent sure
32:04on this, but from what I understand, MetLife has basically been a frozen zone since the world cup
32:08started, which makes sense, right? The grass, we all try to figure out like they're not going to ruin
32:12the grass by having a concert during the world cup. So since the world cup, and I probably even weeks
32:17before when they were getting the world of the stadium ready, MetLife has been unavailable for concerts
32:22and stuff. So obviously they're going to try to make up the money they've lost, uh, with, with
32:27concerts with a ton of events in August. So the Jets couldn't, they couldn't find a date that they
32:32could do an open practice. They tried. Um, but yeah, it sucks for fans. I, but I also, I also
32:38understand it's not the Jets trying to screw the fans. It's kind of a, it's just a crappy, uh, you
32:46know, confluence of events that they're redoing the building right now. Yeah. It's, uh, it's tough
32:50obviously, but like, they're trying to renovate the building, like you said, and they're trying
32:54to make it a bigger new, uh, I guess, updated building itself. It's already an incredible,
32:59I mean, it's almost 20 years old. It's an incredible building though. You know, like
33:02when you look at it, it is, it is, but when you talk to the people that are in there
33:06every
33:07day, they say like the, the, the cracks are starting to show, right? Like there is some
33:13stuff that needs to be upgraded. I know they've talked about it for years, doing some upgrades
33:18and, um, you know, the giants are doing, I think the giants are doing renovations on
33:23their building right now as well. So, and the giants building probably opened up the
33:27same time, I think as the jets, cause the giants building don't coincide with MetLife.
33:31So maybe it was like a year later, but yeah, it's, um, yeah, it's time. I think that, you
33:36know, they need to update it. And you think about just like what technology has changed since
33:412008. So they got to kind of do that kind of stuff to it, you know, as well. And, uh,
33:45you
33:46know, it's not just football, they're renovating the business part of it as well. And, um, you
33:51know, it's, it's, it's things for fans, but like, like it's tricky, right? Like that, that
33:55place was never built with training camp in mind. That was one of the things I remember
33:59going to like Hofstra, everybody like remembers the Hofstra days. Like Hofstra was kind of this
34:05open space. Like it was, you could just walk up to the field. It was sort of built for that.
34:09And Cortland too, if you went to Cortland, it was like that, but met like, you know,
34:13the, the, the building, the jets building is like a fortress. Like there's a lot of security
34:18and it was, it's not meant to have thousands of people coming in to watch practice. And
34:23they've done a good job of working around that in recent years. And they really upped it
34:27whenever Rogers, the 2023, I remember they upped it with the stands and things like that.
34:32And so, um, it'll be back. I would, uh, you know, I would, I would think next year
34:37they'd be back. And, uh, fortunately for them, there's to, this is the probably the least
34:42interesting jets team in a lot. Cause you just feed the trolls. They're going to kill us
34:48in the comments, man. There were being so negative. There's nothing. No, I know it's not, but like
34:56I'm, I'm like, if this was 2023, it was Rogers first year. I understood everyone wanted to come
35:03to training camp. That was the biggest, I think, I think with the reason why fans were upset though,
35:08is because, and this is true, it's expensive to go to a game. It's expensive to attend something.
35:14So if you actually get the chance, like training camp always brings that positive vibes of like,
35:18Oh, new season. Hey, maybe, you know, but like a great place to bring kids. Exactly.
35:23Like bring your family out. Yeah. I've gotten friends, like, you know, I've gotten them tickets
35:32for the training and they bring their kids and they love it. You get all, you know, get the
35:36autographs, that kind of stuff. Um, yeah, I get it. You know, I, I do, but I just think this
35:42was
35:43unavoidable for the, for the jets. Uh, they had to start the project when the people were out of the
35:50building and that was now, and it's going to continue. I think, you know, I think it's going
35:54to be a while before things are back to normal there. Well, guys, can I say, right? No, I just
35:59want to say one quick thing, right? Ryan, we have seen this team not make the playoffs for a decade
36:06and a half now, 15 plus years. It's going on to 16, then 17. Ryan, I just think we have
36:15to be
36:16realistic at some point about the product. And this blind optimism is fine out there in jets land.
36:23But after a while, don't you kind of get the clue? Like you're getting burned year after year and
36:29thinking, Oh, we're going to win this many and we win less. We're going to win this. I mean, like
36:32after a while, enough is enough. You got to smell the coffee. You got to look at the product and
36:37then
36:37they have to buy us back in. We don't have to buy in.
36:43I'm being honest though, cause I want the team to win as many games as possible, but
36:48I'm not going to come in. Fans are like, why are you guys so negative? Frankie, why can't
36:53we win nine games? Cause we haven't won nine games in 10 years. That's why I, there's a
37:00better chance. I don't want to be negative, but like accountability on, on, there should
37:08be some fan accountability too, I think to a degree. And fans don't need to be accountable.
37:14Fans are fans, right? That that's fine. They can, they should be optimistic. They haven't
37:18lost the game. It's it's I get it. I get it. Yeah. Yeah. It'd be very tough to be a
37:23fan
37:23and constantly just be completely negative about this team. I do find the calendar of a jets
37:30fan. Like I actually, in my head, I'm trying to figure out how to do a piece on this of
37:34like,
37:34cause we were at the point where it was like December, like I'm done with this team. I'm not
37:39renewing my tickets. I'm over. It's over. And then it's like, they start to kind of February,
37:44March, it thaws out a little bit with the weather. It's okay. Let's see what they're going to do in
37:49free agency. And it's like, Oh my God, they got Dylan Parham. Awesome. Awesome. Don't let him leave
37:57the building, you know? And then the, then the draft comes and it's like, Oh my God,
38:03Mushi's the best GM we've ever had. This is incredible. So like, it's awesome. Like,
38:08it's awesome to see them come back. I will talk about what's coming, right? Cause then we,
38:13we'll talk about September, October, November, but you guys know what that goes. So this is where,
38:18this is where we draw the circle. That is the Jets fan of, of being a Jets fan, what that
38:25circle
38:25is. And we're at that point right now where it's like, you're starting to get hyped for training
38:29camp. Um, and, and I think cause what's different, right? What's different about this year and what
38:37you talked about just now and before about how this is a, not a very, I wouldn't say well liked,
38:43but like a season that we're not hyped about as fans is because we all know that draft class next
38:50year with the three first round, it's got next year's draft class written all over. And that is
38:54what everyone is focused on, especially Jets fans. Um, and it's tough, right? Because you want to root
39:00for guys like Garrett and Brees, see them succeed and take those next steps. The Membu and, and,
39:06and fashion new there's Will McDonald emerge. What does David Bailey look like? What is Omar Cooper?
39:11Was Sadiq, all these guys, like you're, you're rooting for them. But at the same time, you're
39:16like, I really want a quarterback because the Jets are starving for a young franchise quarterback.
39:22That's ultimately what's going to change it all. That's, what's going to change all this,
39:25the cycle. That's a hundred percent. Right. I can feel the war coming already with you guys
39:30of like the guys who are just going to want to lose, who tank the season to get the best
39:34quarterback
39:35right from the, right from jump versus the guys, you know, like people that are rooting for
39:39this team to do well. It's, it's going to, the off season is going to arrive even earlier this year
39:45because of the draft capital that they have in 2027. I don't feel like, I feel like we're going
39:49to be talking about that all season. Yep. And, um, you know, and then we're, it's kind of cool too.
39:54Like, I do think it's fun. You're going to be able to watch what the Colts do and what the
39:58Packers
39:59do and what the Cowboys do and keep track of their pants. And then you're going to, on Saturdays,
40:03you're going to be watching all these college quarterbacks and picking the one you like. And
40:07you know, it's, that's, it's weird. That part of, it's going to be fun this season for Jets fans.
40:12I think you might want to talk on Sundays might not really be where your focus is.
40:16You're right, cause. Uh, but I will say this, go beat the Titans week one, go beat Robert.
40:20So yeah, I was about to say, I can't, if the Titans win that game, the next day is going
40:25to be
40:26something. It's going to be something. It's going to be a long year. Basically. That's what the
40:29hell Jets fans are going to be like, uh, and you got green Bay at home ride the week after
40:34that's as tough as you're going to get at home. But you're not, you're not upset if you
40:37win or lose that game. Either way, it could be like, you're helping each, you're helping
40:40your future. But also if you win that game, you're helping the Packers lose. It's, it's
40:46going to be fun week to week. Like I said, it's gonna be fun week to week balancing all
40:50these rooting interests for Jets fans. Uh, but listen, cause we appreciate you hopping on
40:55here. I know it's a, it's the off season. I know you're on vacation and you're, you're
40:59balancing the time to recharge before this craziness starts. Uh, but Jets fans, I know
41:04I haven't brought it up yet, but Frankie and myself are going to be representing
41:07here. Gangs all here. I know cause you're not gonna be able to make it this weekend,
41:09but we hope you all come out to ocean resort this weekend on Saturday, uh, down in
41:15Atlantic city. Frankie and I are going to be part of the whole festivities with all
41:19the other jets content creators. We see some beat writers are going to be down there.
41:23Jake Asman's hosting it. Obviously, uh, ocean resort. We're going to be there. Frankie
41:27and myself, I'm going to be the babysitter for Frankie to make sure he doesn't drown
41:31in the pool or something. Uh, but we're going to have a good time. We both have rooms there
41:35cause Ryan has a room and so do I that that's trouble. McGregor's fighting at night. I
41:39tell Ryan, uh, make, make sure you go up and ask Samini if you got a senior discount at
41:44the hotel. I'm going to tell Samini that, uh, you can strike him out in softball cause
41:53like that. Yeah. All right. Uh, but listen, if all of you are available this, this weekend,
41:58especially if you're living in New Jersey, obviously New York, Long Island, welcome.
42:01Come on down. It's going to be a fun event. Uh, it's summertime. We're going to be by the
42:05pool. We're gonna have some drinks and we get to talk jets football. Uh, but until next
42:09time, I appreciate you guys both coming on here and, uh, as always go jets.
42:13Let's
